Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Just wanted to add :grouphug: for Lilly
Thinking of you today...

Lily--so sorry for your loss--another cyber hug coming your way:hug:
Angie--if you do decide to get a running belt, make sure to try it out before race day--some rub funny, or bounce with the bottle--don't want any unforseen issues during your big day! I have an Amphipod, one bottle that fits in the curve of your back--like it but the pocket is very small. DH has the Amphipod with the 2 smaller bottles that sit upright on his sides. I like it that it's pocket is much bigger--big enough for keys, camera, tickets, etc.
Well, my workout today has been scrapped. DH had to work again today. By the end of today he will have worked 60hrs in the past 4 days!:scared1: Poor guy is like a walking zombie--needless to say he hasn't had any training since the 20 mile weekend. I might try to hit the gym this afternoon, but since they only have childcare for a limited time, it will be crazy when I could go.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday. Time for some Wii crosstraining--DD has become a pro at bowling (yes, she is only 4) and loves to beat mommy.

I have no training to report for this weekend...taking the taper thing very seriously ;)
We drove to Orlando yesterday for a daytrip at MK/EPCOT. Major crowds with some new crowd control implementation that I hope they continue. Best part was the UF Gator Band led the 3pm parade!
Lily...so sorry to hear about your puppy. :grouphug:
As for weather, it's currently 73 degrees here with 93% humidity. There is a cold front predicted for next week but it will only last a couple days. We're scheduled to be back to high 70s by next weekend. There could easily be another cold front for race weekend, but those have been few and far between this year.
I have a request for those who will be scream-teaming for either race (particularly the full). Please bring extra supplies for the runners if you can. Last year, we were at YC with extra Powerade, cups, sports beans, gels and I forget what else. I would say the best idea was the Stroke team coach next to us who passed out ice to anyone who wanted it. I don't have a clue where he got it, but we might want to try to set something like this up if it looks like it will be this warm for race weekend. I have two coolers on wheels that I can bring and fill with ice. Maybe we could borrow some freezer space from those of you staying at BCV.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Big Vic

Good afternoon everyone!
Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday.
At 0530 this morning it was 67 degreed and 100% humidity. So, the crappy weather relegated me to the TM.
12 scheduled, 10 completed. Couldn't stand staying on that thing any longer. Nothing significant to report.
Liily - Good thoughts continuing for you and your family.

Hi All,
just got back from a week at Disney. We rented a 6 bedroom house and I can't say enough good things about the trip. We've never done this before as we have always stayed on property. Crowds were manageable until Thursday. Even Christmas day wasn't too bad although they did close Magic Kingdom. I knew better than to go there on Christmas. Had a wonderful time except when walking through the parks or driving into the parks I was always thinking, hmmm next time I am here I will be running these same routes.
Weather was perfect for the parks, but not for running. Mid to high 70's or low 80's everyday. It was great for our family that came down from Wisconsin and New York.
Today was a hot and humid 10 miles. It was brutal. I know it is probably mental, but this was a tough 10 miles! It is supposed to get cooler this Wednesday but only for a few days. I sure hope we luck out and get a break in the weather.
Sorry I haven't caught up but I'll go back and read the prior posts. Lilly, not sure what happened but it doesn't sound good. I have a real soft spot for dogs and hate to see anything bad happen to them.
enjoy,
Duane

Today, I decided to test out my knee and do a little running. I used the jog 3 walk 2 plan for the first four miles and felt GREAT!!!! Then I decided to take it easy a little and do jog 2 walk 3 for the last 4 miles and felt Great as well! My knee felt great..no pain to report! So, that is 8 miles in the book!!! Good thing is that I didn't even feel tired, I could have gone further but I didn't want to push it since my IT band has been feeling good.
I hope everyone is enjoying the taper period!! We are almost there!
Lily--so sorry for your loss. :grouphug: Hang in there.

BCV Here - I'm willing to share space - but I only have a studio - We're going to try and just do carry ons, so I wasnt planning on bringing our cooler - I'll ask dh what he thinks (in terms of luggage!!)
Do we buy extra powerade, gels, and beans? I just found some red beans, I've never tried them, but I thought they'd be a better option for me than powerade (and of course I'm only doing the half! But I'd like to help as many as I can, dh is running the full)
What about wash cloths and cold water to pass out - do you think bcv would have a problem borrowing some of their towels??? :rolleyes1

Hi everyone :goodvibes
Oh Lily I am soooo sorry to hear about your pup. That is just horrible. Hang in there :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
Anyone else have a nasty stomach bug that just won't go away??? I ended up waking up the day after Xmas with this and it just won't leave :headache: Spending most of my 4 day weekend on the couch or well you can guess :sad2:
On the positive note although I won't be running the 1/2 this year I will be in Orlando during the time period for a conference for work :cool1: So I'll be thinking about all of you that weekend :wizard: :yay:

Minnie: My DS6 has named it "rotten cheese belly", why we do not know but I think it aptly describes it. For you cuz DH and DD13 have it now and I had it right after DS. He was so nice to share with us all. Get better soon.
Laurie: :woohoo: for you and getting back into it. I had an awesome run yesterday (8 also) so I am glad to hear someone else is on the recovery road with me!!!
Lily: More :grouphug: for you as you probably cannot get enough right now. I was thinking of you as I skied with my 2 dogs today. Okay, one more... :grouphug:
Today was a rest day but as I got new skate skis for Xmas and had not tried them yet, and we just got fresh snow, and the trails were fresly dragged...yep I did it. Only a couple miles and nice and slow but I have to say it was awesome skiing and it is completely beautiful in the woods today. Snow on the trees, bright sunshine and 36 degrees. It is as close to paradise as I can think of right now. I hope everyone else enjoys their day and workout too!!! Only 10 more days and I will be in WDW!!!!! :dance3:

Good morning WISH team mates! :surfweb:
This morning's 2 hour run made up for last week's really, really bad stonker. I was flying! I tried to slow down but it wasn't happening. So I just ran. It was 11 miles, easy. What couldn't I have had THAT run last weekend!?!!
Lily: still sending warm hugs and gentle thoughts to you and your family.
Stephanie: sorry your workout was scrapped but more sorry that DH has had to work so much these past few days! Yuck and yucky for the family. Hope he gets some relief soon and you get to the gym soon too!
Big Vic: WTG on the TM run! I know it wasn't 12 but it sure was 10 and you should feel good about it.
Mel: I really like your idea for scream team folks. I'm happy to bring whatever I can.
Minnie: so sorry to hear about the upset stomach but please do NOT share it with me!! I don't want it. Some folks in our office have had upset stomachs and others have had colds that seem to linger forever. I hear them cough from quite a distance. Isn't fun.
princessrunner: glad to hear the skiing was good. Looking forward to being in WDW soon too!
Calcio:  :love2:
Hope everyone has a great workout day! 2 weeks from right now and it will be over! I will have done it. :scared:

Hello, WISHers!
First off, big :grouphug: for Lily. So sad! I am afraid for my little dog as we are surrounded by woods.
Today my training consisted of XT - washing all the wood floors, cleaning bathrooms and cleaning out the attic. I have a HUGE pile of trash. I guess I'll have to sneak out a little every week with the normal stuff so I don't have to haul it all to the dump.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll get out and run. It's supposed to be 61 here, so it would be a good time to get used to running in a bit warmer weather again. That hot Florida weather is really freaking me out! :scared1:
Happy tapering and training, all!

Well, I ended up needing to get out of the house this afternoon, so I headed to the gym. Luckily for me, when I got there the cardio floor was practically empty. Ended up with 95minutes, 10.01 miles; with 25min at race pace. Felt good, but glad it's over! 2 weeks from now I'll be enjoying the end of my dinner at Rose and Crown (assuming I can walk!)
Martha--so glad to hear that you had a good run today!:thumbsup2

Just doing a quick check-in. No training to speak of today. I did walk 2 miles, but mainly to loosen up. My legs and back were a little tight from yesterday's r/w. I may have to switch to xt tomorrow, as they are calling for rain (not running in the rain unless I ahve to on race day! )

ok, feeling negative again...decided to try and get a fuel belt rushed to me so I can break it in, but cannot find one that will fit (how embarassing) any other larger women out there that can point me in the right direction? how good/bad are the handheld ones? (that would fit me)
thanks!

Hey team, Colleen "princessmomma" here, I had to start a new account because for the life of me, I forgot the "unforgetable" password to my DIS account and then realized the email account I signed up in 2001 is the one I had in Canada just before we moved to NC.:sad2:
If anyone has any ideas how to contact a techie to retrieve my account please let me know.
We drove back from Fort Myers yesterday, wow, Florida is a BIG state, it took us forever to get home.:sad2:
We waved to Duane in Fort Myers as we left, Chester in Bradenton, and Mel in Sarasota. Thanks to Duane and Chester for their insider tips!:thumbsup2
I was able to get 10 miles in today on the treadmill as it was raining here in NC. I am quite sore now, I am not sure if it is because of my poor diet the last 10 days or being in a car for 15 hours yesterday!
Two weeks from today...............

Colleen, I sent a pm to you. I don't know if it will be of any help, but it's worth a try.
I had a good 6 miles today. It was 32 degrees and for me wonderful. Not that stinking stonker making humid FL weather. I'm so praying for zero humidity.
I kept it around 15 min/miles and I know I could have kept it going. I really needed to be out in it.
Yes, it is still weepy here. One of our neighbors came over today offering condolences and said that the other neighbor is poaching deer and leaving the "leavings" out for the coyotes to feed upon thereby causing them to come nearer to us. I WISH I would have known, but too late for that now.
Thank you all for the hugs, I do so need them. :grouphug:
Adding to this miserable mess causing added stress is that I am undergoing diagnostics for possible surgery. I have an apt. on the 7th with doc who might be doing the surgery, but I think one more test (C-T) then I expect a date will be set. I'm knowing it will not interfere with my Goofy weekend. That is at least something to hold.
You are all keeping me sane right now even if it is Taper Madness!
:dance3:
Tomorrow I work half day then I plan to go to they gym for w/o, nap and NYE party. I cannot believe I am going to a NYE party. We never do this.I always baby sit or have always volunteered to cover shifts for my co-workers back in the day I worked radio.

Angie, I have an Ultimate Direction Access http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpage-UDAC.html
It seems to have quiet a bit of length to it. Another idea is to get several to try and return the ones that may be too tight, because they send a postage paid return label (since you don't have time to try & return over time).
Maybe someone else will post what works for them.

Hi everyone -
Oh it feels good to be home. Riding through mountains in a car is NOT a cure for vertigo.
I FINALLY got my race packet when I got home. I am official!
Lily - oh, you just lived one of my nightmares! I am so so sorry.
Angie - I actually safety pinned a gu packet to my shorts once because I had no other way to carry it. If you can't find a belt that works, don't panic, I have never run with more than a single gu or a sport bean pack and I have survived several half marathons.
Take care!

Hey everybody! I've been M.I.A. for almost two weeks b/c of the holidays, and sickness, and family, etc., etc....
Lily: I am soooooo sorry to hear about your puppy!:grouphug:
It looks like everyone is tapering. Does anyone else feel weird? Like you need to be running more miles? I feel like that. I'm guessing b/c I'm so used to running more.
I had to run 15 on the dreadmill last week. I was sick, and it was raining. I wasn't sure how far I'd get (was supposed to do 18-20) but figured I'd just run until I couldn't anymore.Managed to run just over 15. After I finished my hip really hurt. I didn't think too much about it figuring it was b/c I ran so long on a different surface. Well when I ran my 14 mile lr this past Friday it started hurting again, and quite badly. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on?
I am already completely freaked out about this race. I have no idea why, it's my 4th time running it and my 7th full marathon. I guess b/c it's the first time I've done it alone (I've never run a race without Christa or my FIL at least running the same race). Anyway, my hip hurting is only adding to the stress. I'm so freaked I'm having trouble sleeping. Is anyone else having anxiety?
~bree~
princessrunner
12-31-2007, 06:34 AM
Bree: I am having a lot of anxiety. Waking up at night in a panic, etcetera. My longest run for the half is 8 miles so far. I am afraid that I will not do well. I have very high expectations of myself. My DH says I am in over my head and I NEED to prove him wrong. So, do not feel alone. I am having serious anxiety and if I were signed up for the full, I would probably be committed by now!! :rotfl: Oh, and this is my very first half EVER!!!
I am not a professional but I have to do some serious IT band stretches after my LRs. My favorite releases your IT, glutes, and hammies all at once. You lay on your back with both knees bent, put your right foot on your left knee (figure 4ish) and then lift your left knee and pull it toward your chest. It hurts A LOT. My MIL also had me lay flat on my back last night and put one leg up straight, flex my foot and put a towel around it and then pull it back toward my chest. My hammies are WAY too tight. :scared1: Oh, and then DD13 who is a gymnast, did the same stretch and put her foot over her head and touched the floor. I hope your hip feels better soon!!
Sandy321
12-31-2007, 08:28 AM
:grouphug: Lilly, that's just not right
Angie I just have a jansport fanny pak - I'm huge around the middle, and I feel I need to carry a washcloth, phone, camera, gu, beans... I've been practicing with it, and could do without a washcloth, camera... but so far its working!! And on my 5 mile run yesterday it was so fun having my Dad call me with the Bears score!! (I usually ALWAYS call him!! I ran instead!)
I'm trying to stay away from a whine fest of my own!! The weather here will warm up considerably Thurs, Fri, Sat.. I feel as if I have fallen arches, and the plantar fascia pain is kicking in!

Lily
I am very sorry for your loss. There are so many predators hanging around in suburban areas these days. Then add in a fool who is attracting them to your area. I'm so sorry.
:sad1: I've had a significant setback. I pulled my right hamstring yesterday, and this one is injury, not pain. With only 13 days to the marathon I'm pretty pessimistic about being in the starting corrals. I am looking forward to the trip, but if the real reason I'm going cannot happen, I won't be good company.
I was going to do 100 easy minutes yesterday, but the entire way I felt crummy. I finally had enough and was going to stop at 75 minutes, but I didn't get there, as at 67 minutes my right hamstring popped and I was done. No tightness or soreness in advance, literally just a pop.
I have been pushing hard the last few weeks, and I was much more prepared than in prior years. I've never, ever, never had a hamstring issue from running, not even "just sore," so it appears my body simply had enough. I'm doing an aggressive rehab to try to at least participate, so I should be more certain in a week.
Does anyone have a right hamstring they aren't using on January 13? I'll pay top dollar to rent it just for the morning.
Craig
princessrunner
12-31-2007, 09:48 AM
Craig: :wizard: and a  too. Keeping fingers crossed that you can rehab and join the masses. Would that I could, I am flying home on Sunday and my hammy is not busy that day, tight as all get out, but not busy. Once again, you are reinforcing my MIL who MADE me stretch last night. Well WISHes to you Craig.

Greetings Team -
Nine miles on the TM yesterday. I was pretty sick on Saturday so I put my L/R off for a day. And gee, thanks RW magazine for saying in the latest issue how much you really need "road" time before a LD event to get your legs used to the pounding. :headache: I haven't been outside since 11/17. OK, I'm not going to let that bother me, I'm not going to let that bother me...
Mel - I'll be at Red Water Stop # 2 from 6:00am to 9:00am of the Full then I am heading to the Finish Line. I'll be bringing a stash of supplies, and will be happy to carry anything for anyone else if you want to give it to me before hand. I was planning on having some sports drinks, Cliff Bars, Sport Beans and whatever anyone else suggests. Cam did this last year and she REALLY saved my butt when I was kissing the pavement. She gave me a sports drink and I'm sure something to eat but I can't remember what it was, but it brought some color back to my face so I looked nice for the EMTs. ;)
Minnie - I think I had a touch of that on Saturday. Either that or I had the Ebola virus. Whatever it was, I was pretty close to death so I put off my 9 miles until yesterday.
Lily -
Martha - I'm SO happy to hear about your latest L/R! YAY! :thumbsup2 But not so happy to hear about Craig's issue. Maybe if you gently massage it....It might not make it better but it will take his mind off the pain. ;)
Angie - Being "curvelishious" myself, I find my AmphiPod very comfortable. It is completely adjustable and you can move the bottles wherever they fit best. I did have trouble releasing and putting the 10oz bottles back in the belt but I called their Customer Service dept and they send me two 8oz bottles for free. :thumbsup2 But whatever you do - do not try anything new on race day!
Craig - Oh Craig....I'm so sorry. This really stinks!
Big Vic
12-31-2007, 01:11 PM
Good afternoon everyone!
Craig - Sorry to hear about the hamstring, my brutha. Take it easy the next couple of weeks and hopefully you'll be good to go for the marathon.
Martha - WTG with the 11 miler!
Judy - WTG with the 9 miler!
Lily - Thinking about you.
Marilyn will be working Blue Waterstop #2 for the full and then heading to the finish. We can bring a small cooler for sports drinks, gels, clif bars, etc. I'll have to figure out how to get her strategically located, either inside or outside of MGM or Epcot. Do we want to make a list of items needed?
wfloyd
12-31-2007, 01:12 PM
All these injuries are giving me more incentive to stay in for the next two weeks...
Mel - What are these crowd control measures? Cattle prods would have been effective when we were there last week.
Lily -  Sorry to hear about your loss. I think it may be time to temporarily change your name to coyote catcher. I hear Vick might have room in his cell for a partner.
Craig - Take it easy these next two weeks. If football players can come back after a week or two, I am sure you can as well. As long as you behave in the meantime. Lynnda says that includes pampering Martha for the entire taper time, but I am not too sure of how that might help. Other than keeping her from kicking you to behave. ;)
Judy - You can't meet EMT's when you are on the treadmill. You have to be outside for that. :rolleyes1
To all who are sick - Hope you get better soon but make sure you don't send the germs this way. Otherwise I will play dirty and keep the humidity around for a couple of more weeks. ;)

Lily: so sad about your puppy......my sincere condolences.
Pungodingy: the Ultimate Direction Access fuel belt from Running Warehouse will fit. I am pretty wide around the middle and still have slack. My husband is even wider than I am and his fits comfortably. Mine holds a water bottle and has a small zipper compartment. I think it was about $17 before the Wish discount.
Craig: so sorry about your injured hamstring. Sending pixie dust and hoping for a miraculous recovery.

It is snowing here...again...and so I was back on the TM for 60 minutes today. I took it slow as it was supposed to be an "easy" run so I only made it 4.4 miles. Okay, maybe I took it a little too easy but we are headed to a sliding party tonight and up and down the hill counts too...right...;) Oh, and shoveling too, that counts. We were supposed to get 10 inches today and last shoveling it was 12" two hours ago and it is STILL snowing!! The worst part is we have today to clean it up and it is going to snow again tomorrow p.m. Happy new year!!!!
Have a great day everyone and lots of PD to the sick and injured. Get well soon!!
Oh yeah, 9 more days and I am in WDW!!!!!!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Craig - Sending some PD for the hamstring and hoping for a quick rehab!
Bree - I had some trouble with my hip earlier this fall. I worked it out on the adductor/abductor weight machine and that helped it out. Now it is just fine (knocking on wood).
I dropped the kids at the ice rink today and did a 6 mile stonker. Didn't really bother me; I figure I've got to get the stonkers out of my system so I don't have one for race day! It was at least warm enough to wear shorts; I'm so worried about the heat!
Happy tapering!

Craig, on no, not the hammy...:wizard: lots of ice, rest and Aleve is on order.
Bree, stretch, stretch, stretch, :wizard: for the hip, remember you just ran Charlotte a few weeks ago. How is Lucas?
Angie, good luck finding something to carry.
Rest day for me today. No plans for tonight, we are still recovering from our holiday trip.

Craig - sending :wizard: your way for a quick hammy recovery.
Martha, Renee & Judy - WTG on your runs!:thumbsup2
I tried to make it 3 great runs in a row, but it didn't work. Had a major stonker today:sad2: After 3 strikes, I called myself out and came home.
Strike 1: Went to the track, planning to do 10 miles. Legs were DEAD! all the talking to myself in the world wasn't making them feel better. It was weird, because they felt sore in my upper leg. Not muscle sore, but like they didn't want to hold me up. Yuck. Decided to just walk instead (since I'll be walking most of the full, this would give me a timecheck).
Strike 2: Got dressed to go to the track. Went outside and it was a little chilly. Had a s/s underarmour and a long sleeve race shirt on. Figured I'd warm up when I got moving. Not! It was windy at the track and I was freezing! After the 1st mile, not even close to feeling warm, so I went to the car and got my coat.
Strike 3: After walking another mile, I could feel the shin splints starting. :sad2: For some reason I don't have any problem with shin splints when I run or r/w. But if I'm trying to walk at a quick pace, that's when I get the shin splint pain. Go figure
So instead of continuing on and risking possible injury, I called it a day. 2 miles only. I may give the legs the rest of the day today to rest and then ride my bike either later today or tomorrow. Don't want any injuries two weeks before the big weekend.
Did anyone see on the weather channel where Orlando's temps on Wed. are going to be a high of 48 and a low of 29?! It's supposed to warm up a little more than that for race weekend.
WISHing you all a safe, fun and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Just wanted to stop by to say HAPPY NEW YEAR hope every one has a happy and healthy new year/
I was able to get outside and run/walk 2 miles this AM. I am planning on doing a 5k next Sunday but I know I am not prepared at all. I am still going to do it since its in my town. I think it will kick start me into training again since I have been really slacking since TOT.

Happy New Year everyone! It is 8:36 am on January 1, 2008 here in sunny and warm Perth, AU. I got in one final run for 2007 - 9.33 miles around the Swan River banks and it was absolutely beautiful. My legs hurt for the first 30 - 40 minutes and things felt awkward. Luckily after that my gait started to feel more natural, my speed picked up and the rest of the run was pain free. This morning we are driving down to Margaret River - an amazing wine producing region here in Western Australia. I'm hoping to get a few more runs in down there before heading back to Calgary, and before heading off to Orlando.
If anyone is interested in seeing a few of the pictures from my runs here in Perth (or in Singapore) click on my blog link.
Lily - I am so sorry to hear about your pup. My heart goes out to you.
Craig - All the best for your hamstring. I hope it feels better in time for WDW. You've been training so hard!
Have a terrific New Year's everyone!!!!

Question for you guys.... My mom is walking the half. The longest distance she has done was ToT. She hurt her ankle during the race so has only been walking short distances. Turns out it was a stress fracture, but it has healed and her doctor has given her the okay to walk the race only (no running).
Anyhow....she hasn't trained with gels or beans or anything. I don't know whether to give her some beans for race day, or whether she should stay away from them under the whole "don't try anything new" mantra. She's been training in the heat, but the humidity does concern me. What advice should I give my mom on the whole race nutrition thing?

Craig...oh my! Buckets of :wizard: to heal your hammy!
Leana...has she been training with water or some Gatorade type beverage? If the Gatorade, she's not likely to need additional electrolytes from magic beans/gels.
List of supplies for scream teams:
Powerade and/or water
gels and/or magic beans
nutrition bars
salt packets
band-aids
body glide
sunscreen
ice
wet sponges
ETA: hard candies
wet washcloths
Chex mix/pretzels/potato chips
Anything else?
These are just suggestions. Please don't feel obligated to bring all this stuff or have your family/friends toting it around. I know most of you fly in so it may not be possible to bring extras. Having you or your scream team out there on the course means a LOT, so the honor of your presence is more than enough. If you can have some extras with you, it would also be appreciated. Last year was pretty brutal even for those of us that train in this weather all the time. I'm concerned we may see similar conditions this year. My biggest WISH is to send you all home safely so we can do this again next year :grouphug:
Happy New Year everyone!

Terri:
Walking fast requires a lot more work from the shin muscles. I'm a walker and I have to warmup good, like a couple of miles of easy to brisk walking before I can crank out a good fast pace without shin pain. When my shins hurt during a race I know I haven't warmed up properlym and it's going to be a few miles before they feel better. You can't walk sub 11 min miles without a good warm-up. Even on a hot day I can't cut that short.
You need to take some advil and get some good rest, maybe a day or to for your legs. It sounds like you are exhausted. Or you are not eating enouth.
Cdn-gal:
Your Mom will be fine with what the course provides but if you want to give her some sports beans for emergency energy that would be fine. If she drinks the power/gator ade on the course she will be fine. I normally don' even take a drink in a race of 10K or less. Though that's not what most advise I find if I hydrate good the day before then I'm fine. Make sure she eats something an hour or so before the race.
Erica and I did 5 miles this morning. The rocket scientist I'm married decided to wear thick socks since it was chilly and they didn't do well with the Ecco Sandals. He ended up with hot spots on her feet and we had to quit at 5 miles. We were scheduled for six. She was smart enouth to call it quits when she started getting the hot spots.
I actually felt pretty good today, even a little touch of happy feet, been a while since I felt so light. One of the advntages of taper resting.

Terri: I have the same issue when I try to walk fast even with my R/W routine. I can walk about 4 mph but if I try to push up to 4.3-4.5 I get the shooting pains. Maybe we both need a professional Panda consultation to get the technique right so it does not hurt.
Well, we are plowed and shoveled out from our 12" yesterday and my DH has his bucket loader (the big construction type) out setting back snow banks today in preparation for our 12-18" tonight. Kiddos are due to start school tomorrow but it is supposed to snow at 2-3" per hour all night and I am thinking...not. It is my day off tomorrow so I will have a chance to play in the snow with them which is not something I get to do a lot. Good quality mommy time before I leave them behind in 8 DAYS (happy dance here). I cannot wait!!!
Today is XT day and the trails are not dragged :sad2: so I am going to don my DHs snowshoes and slog out through the trails that way. I made 5 trips up a huge hill last p.m. at the NYE sliding party that we attended. Oh what happened to those days of fancy parties where I could get all dressed up and spend the evening having cocktails??? JK, LOL, I would rather stand around the open fire pit, drink a couple beers and slide with the kiddos. Have a great day all and happy training. Oh and, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!!:cool2:

Happy New Year, Everyone!
To all our teammates who are ill or nursing injuries, I am keeping you in my prayers and sending loads of pixiedust: and :goodvibes
Remember, you've been looking forward to and training for this event for months if not upwards toward a year. As Craig told me last year, the important thing is to arrive at the start healthy, so you have to take it easy now and take care of anything that hurts. Now is not the time to push your limits. Craig, this means you, sweetie! I don't know if Martha told you this, but on October 14, I ran my first 5k and had some hip pain in the first mile. Just a while later, I heard a "POP" in my left hip joint. The pain was intense and stupidly, I ran through it. I am SURE the recovery time would have been significantly shorter if I'd not pushed the limit and if I'd "babied" it afterwards. You are so much more experienced than many of us here, so I'm sure you know what you have to do to optimize your chances of arriving at the starting corrals healthy on 1/13. However, I also know how driven you are and how much you demand of yourself. Please take it easy now, friend, so that you can enjoy the event for which you've been training so diligently.
I know I haven't been around here much, and my training has not been consistent, but I was happy to get in my 20 miles in Hilton Head on 12/22, knowing it was the last time I'd be able to carve out all those hours at once for a long training session.
I am seriously worried about Howard who intends to do the Goofy AGAIN this year with minimal training. UGH!!! Fortunately, I know he'll be with our friend Kevin and hopefully, Lynne. So, with all that support plus WISHers scream teaming, he should be able to get to the finish healthy and whole.

I think I'll take your advice and ice, rest and NSAID's. May limit the rest of my workouts to non-weight bearing xt, to save my legs for the race. Back to the pool for me!
I spent a quiet night at home last night. Actually fell asleep and woke up just as the ball in NYC dropped. With my busy schedule, I find I value the times when i can stay home and veg. I think my party-ing days are over.

Happy New Year WISH Team! It won't be long now, and we will all be together at WDW! LTO this year, and I won't be running the races, but I will be Scream Teaming for both the 1/2 and Full. I will join Cam, Carrie and Scott on Main Street for the 1/2 and then head to the finish. For the Full, I am still debating my Scream Team positions, but I think I am going to position myself outside of AK and then head toward YC/BC or the Finish after the last WISH team member passes AK. For the Scream Team supplies, I was also thinking of fruit, maybe bananas, and also candy like gummy bears or red licorice? Any other thoughts from the runners on what you might want for the long stretch between AK and MGM?
I can't wait to see everyone! Go WISH Team Go! :cheer2:
Craig- Please take care of yourself! Lots of R.I.C.E. and pampering from Martha should help carry you to the starting line.

Thanks to all my good friends for "all these positive waves." I promise to take my own advice Cam, although I don't think it's fair that you and Martha keep turning my own advice around and pointing it at me. You guys need to do as I say, not as I do. And Heather, you know Martha well enough that she is threatening more than pampering. After yesterday's snow she told me if I went out and did any shoveling at all she would inflict great pain on my delicate person.
I think it tore going downhill, as going up the stairs at home isn't a problem at all, it's the going down part that I feel. I've been stretching, doing ham curls with little weight and lots of reps, then using the electric muscle stimulator (no comments Judy) with ice 4 times a day, and it seems to be improving. Luckily I stopped right away, as the damaged area is pretty small, and collection of blood in the back of the leg is just a tiny spot.
If I hadn't produced 2 good results in October at the BAA Half and the Tower of Terror I would be totally bummed, but those have liberated my attitude about the Marathon. If I can just get out there, start, and finish, that will be good enough for me. Of course if you believe that, I've got swamp land, I mean real estate to sell you.
And the good part (back to Pollyanna's glad game) is now I really have to come to the Minnie in May. I was hoping to run those last 9 miles of the marathon course for the first time in my life on January 13. Since that obviously isn't going to happen, I'll be there in May to pound out the last 9.3.
Best to all and heartfelt thanks. I gotta go do today's rehab session #2.

Hey everyone - Happy New Year! I hope you all haven't been eating like crazy like I have! All this food can't be good for my upcoming first marathon. I'm thinking part of this overeating is just nerves about the upcoming events. :sad2: :scared:
Lily - I'm so very sorry to hear about your puppy. I lost a cat a little over a year ago to similar circumstances. My heart breaks for you and your family. :sad1:
Monte - Yikes! What a mess! Hopefully, everything will get back to normal soon for your neck of the woods. Be careful!
Craig - :wizard: :wizard: for your hamstring issue. I also have a problem with my left hamstring although I don't think it's anything major. I've had the problem since I did the Nike 1/2 in October. And, I've also had popping issues with it. My trainer, who also does rehab work, didn't seem too concerned with that. Not sure why. :confused3 One thing I've been trying to do is apply a heating pad (or taking a hot shower) to the area before I stretch or exercise. Then, afterwards, I try to ice it down. It does seem to help somewhat. I hope your issue gets better soon.
Martha - glad your 11-miler was good for you. It helps to end this training on a good note. :goodvibes
Laurie - how's your IT band this week. Sending more :wizard: for you.
Kristi - hope you had a good run in Vegas, baby! Did you bring back lots of money from all of your winnings? :teeth:
Judy - I've read about lots of people doing most of their training on the TM. And, doing quite well in their races. You can do it! By the way, I'm envious of that suprise cruise vacation you presented to Charlie. I wish my DH would do something like that. ;)
Bree - I can honestly say that I've never felt the need to be out running more during taper madness. :rotfl: I guess I'm not a true athlete.
Vic - I think it's a good idea to make a list of items for the scream team for both the full and half. ETA: Oh, I see Mel has started something. :thumbsup2 It would be nice to know what all areas the scream teams will be in. I'll be part of the Scream Team for the half. I'll be happy to provide some stuff for our fellow WISHers.
Lisa - all that skiing and snow activities that you've been doing sounds like fun. I'm not a good skier at all - I just haven't been exposed to it much. What's really embarrasing, and I guess I shouldn't admit to this, is that I actually got hurt the first time I tried the sport - while taking lessons. :sad2: I twisted my knee and had to wear a brace for 3 months. No fun. However, the next time I went out, all was better.
Sandy - :wizard: for your PF. I've had in both feet a few years ago. It was very painful at times.
Terri - sorry about the stonker/attempted 10-miler. I, too, had one but after the W/R. I hurt all over afterwards - especially my feet. I don't think I could have gone another mile. Here's some :wizard: for better days ahead. Maybe we're just getting the stonkers out of our system before the big day. :thumbsup2
Tricia - sometimes a 5k will help get us back into the training mode. I've got one planned in February. I need that carrot dangling over my head to keep me going.
Leana - I'm jealous. You've been quite the traveling lady lately. I'd love to go to Singapore and Austrailia. Glad you are having a good time.
Mel - how's your ankles? As for the scream team items, one thing that helped my in one of my recent 1/2 marathons was a kleenex. Some guy was holding up a box and several of us grabbed one as we went by. Oh, another thing - hard candy. Some folks say this instant sugar helps. :confused3
Kathy - Good to see you at the ToT. Thanks for all the pics you've posted recently. Lots of good stuff there. :thumbsup2
For all those nursing illnesses and injuries - :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for you.

Lynne -- I thank God for you and Kevin and will rest easy knowing Howard is with you guys. Kevin has been training in Iraq and is approaching if not at 1000 miles of training in that horrible heat. I know his tolerance for it must have been increased significantly. Howard has this most awesome picture of the three of you crossing the line at the 2007 Full. It inspires him and reminds me to thank God for the blessing of WISH friends! Can't wait to see you and your gang next weekend!

Kathy -- It is awesome to see you back here! :cutie:
Has anyone seen Anne recently? I have been missing her, but have had no time to track people down.
I did 8+ miles today within marathon pace so I am glad for that. I can't fit in any more significant LRs so I'm planning to get in some shorter distance every other day. I am also DETERMINED to fuel my body for 26.2 miles on my feet for the next 12 days rather than acting as if I am preparing for hibernation. :lmao:
I haven't kept up much with the threads recently because LTO (though not as badly as Heather who also has 4 little ones in her life!), but really looking forward to seeing lots of WISHers at POP and at the start and finish and the Boardwalk Bakery.

Hi everyone!
Yikes! We need a team doctor! Get healthy quick, its almost party time!
As for the scream teamers supplies, consider buying a big batch of those cheap wash cloths from Wal MArt and putting them in a cooler of ice water. I had someone hand me one of these at the end of a race in August and it was absolute heaven! He told me to wrap it around the back of my neck and it really cooled me off quick. I used these for my son during all his summer football practices and soon the whole team was using them.
The marathon dreams have started. Last night I realized I was running w/o my shoes at mile 13.

I figured y'all up north would find this amusing...
We're under a severe weather alert. The cold front is going through and there's a wind chill advisory in effect for tonight through tomorrow morning as temperatures are expected to be at or below freezing for at least 3 hours. We're advised to ready our sweaters and jackets (seriously!) I'm scheduled for 3-4 miles tomorrow...trying to decide if I should brave it and use this as my only chance to train in this weather in case we have it again for race weekend...or just wimp out and run on the TM.;)
I have my new 2008 training log all set up. It looks pretty thin so far...only the Minnie and 2009 WDW half. I'm going to try Galloway's method of training to or past the race distance so I'm using the regular half training plan from MFM for Minnie since the final LR is 10 miles.
Great ideas for what to include for scream teams!
Anyone know how to heal up shin splints quickly? DH has had problems since his 12 miles on 12/23. He tried to run with me yesterday, but couldn't even go a whole mile before they bothered him. He had switched from old shoes to new shoes so I told him to go back to the old ones, but not sure that's really going to help.
Susie...feet are stable, thanks for asking. The L ankle will never get better, it is what it is, but the R PF is behaving. Best I can ask for at this point.

Sandy - Hope the PF goes away SOON!
Craig - More  and well wishes for the hamstring. Listen to Martha! You WILL be at the start line on the 13th, and you WILL cross the finish line too.
Lisa - I cannot imagine living with the amount of snow you do!
Leana - Love the pictures! What a great trip.
Mel - Would never have thought of this on my own, but when I was volunteering for the marathon in Raleigh one of the other volunteers had a bag of Chex mix for herself, but the runners saw it and literally begged for handfuls as they went by at mile 22. Might be a good thing to add to our scream team list of goodies?
Cam - Glad to see you back here and feeling better. I was wondering if you were healing okay and ready to do this - glad to know you've been getting the miles in! :thumbsup2
Bill - We had a band from Raleigh in the Rose parade, but they got NO TV coverage here. What's up with that? :confused3
Susie - I only tried skiing once. DH's best friend was a ski instructor who claimed he'd never met anyone he couldn't teach to ski. He changed his mind after a couple of hours with me. :rotfl:
DH, DD & I ran a 5K at midnight last night/this morning. (Wendy/Getnthinr was there too!) Definitely the least organized race I've ever done. We were supposed to have a sparkling cider toast prior to a 12AM start, but they were still handing out race packets past 12:00, so we started around 12:15. I thought my Garmin was charged - NOT - and it died 3 minutes into the race, so I had to wing it. Instead of 3R/1W that I usually do, I actually ran most of the race (or so I thought?) I know I only took 1 walk break during the 1st mile, but the course rolled and was obviously dark, even though it was through the Festival of Lights. Clock time was 37:11, which was a real bummer since I felt like I was going to be around 35:00, but we had fun anyway! And DD16, who hadn't trained at all, ran a 34:57 - so much for Mom who's been at this for 2 years...

Mel--that is AWESOME! I'm about 95% sure I could do it without throwing up. And since we all know that running those measly 4 miles would most definitely burn off all those calories  , there is nothing to worry about. So are we going to add this to the official WISH calendar for 08? ;)

Hi WISH Team! Happy New Year!
It is good to see everyone here with their training stories.
Don't worry about those dreams, injuries and concerns. Rest if you need, you certainly will not train for a long event in these last couple of weeks. Get well to those who need it. Start packing for those who need it. I'll see you soon and look forward to it!
It is really snowing here. Lots and lots of snow. I spent the day indoors. Last night was XT lots of dancing at NYE party. I was able to handle that well. DS asked me today if I thought I was ready for the big event weekend. After I told hime I'm not as trained up for the full as I feel I need, he was so sweet. He gave me the pep talk saying I've got 2 Goofy's and I will be able to reach down and pull out that miracle if I need. Now that's a great pep talk. I'm not completely on with it, but I will give it my best.
Christmas decorations are all put away. Lots to do before we leave! Eek.

I hope everyone had a happy new year!!!
Today, I headed out for a 4 mile jog and I have to say it is the best i have felt about a run in a long time, even though it was only 4 miles, I felt great. It looks like all the work i have been doing to help my IT band has been helping. I have been stretching, doing some exercises and icing alot...and it seems to be helping! I hope it stays that way!
ughh...back to work tomorrow! But only 8 days till DBF and I leave for WDW!!! :cool1:

Wow! A Krispy Kreme Challenge. There is no way I could eat a dozen doughnuts and run even 2 miles afterward without "retasting" them. I have to say I am more of a Tim Horton's girl too. Sounds like fun though!
Today is my rest day and there is no rest for the weary. We got another foot of snow last night and this time it is the wet heavy kind. I just got the call from DH that I have to wade out to the cows with their hay also so I guess between shoveling and high stepping in the snow, I have some XT to do today. They showed a graft last night and last year at this time we had 3.5" of snow and this year we have over 3' of snow. At least the forecast is clear for next Wednesday so I can leave for MCO.
Only 7 more days!!!! :cool1:  :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2: :dance3:

But, of course, wet and heavy and light and fluffy!! Anyone who has to shovel far prefers the light and fluffy kind. I will try and take a pic before I leave to show the snow in front of my house!!:cold:

Hi Everyone!
We had snow here too. Big fluffy flakes that melted immediately. However, it was the first time my ds7 had ever seen snow so it was exciting.
The snow brought some incredibly cold temperatures with it. Ugh. It's in the low 20's today. I told my running buddies that I am breaking the rule and over dressing for today's 10 mile run. I figure if I overdress it will compare to Disney heat and humidity. I will let you know how it goes.
Had another dream last night - this time I forgot to finish the half. I got to my hotel and realized I hadn't finished so I had to go back and finish it. At least I had my shoes on this time.

Hi all! Been doing pretty good with training, wlthough holidays were nusy and board time was null. :( Still having hammuy issues, but I think it will be ok. Scott's leg seems to be fully recovered and his 10-miler went great. SO, that's good news!
Just areminder for teh over achievers, who are nothing like me. Please taper now! If you didn't get to do as long of a LR as you wanted, that's ok. It's still better to rest your legs, let them heal adn develope that runnign craving thaan to put more wear and tear on your legs now by trying another LR. :wizard: :wizard: to all with inuries!!!
Mel - OK, we can talk trash now! ;) OMG, heart failure game. Surprised I still have my voice from screaming at the tv. Hope you've recovered ok. I know how yucky it is to end on a losing bowl game, so I won't say another word. BTW, we only have a studio with a little freezer at BCV, but let me know if you need it.
To add to Mel's statement: OMG, her supplies saved many last year and I almost hugged teh woman fom teh stroke team with the ice. WHat a life saver! So,if you can swing it, those supplies are greatly appreciated!
I wo't likely be in an area where I can have alot of supplies, but I'll try to keep some with me. I'll be at Main Street adn teh entrance ot Epcot for the half, so if you see me, let me know if I can do anything!

Hey, Wish team, long time no see!! It sounds like everyone is ready for the marathon, and it looks like the weather will behave this year. We checked accuweather last night, which has a 15 day forecast, and as of right now it's supposed to be lows in the 40's and highs in the 60's for marathon weekend. That's a million times better than the weather last year!
I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and a happy new year, Stephen and I had a very good Christmas, it would have been better if it were a white Christmas, but we're getting the white stuff now.
Okay, now to get caught up with everyone, I will at least attempt to:
Craig--Continued :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your hamstring! I definitely know what it's like to get hurt a couple of weeks away from the marathon, so I feel your pain. Keep rehabbing it and hopefully you be at the start line on 1/13.
Lily--   I am so sorry for your loss. And major :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your doctor's appointment and possible surgery.
Mel--That's a great list for scream team, I'll definitely make a point to get some provisions for everyone. But now I am torn, I was planning on staying at the YC/BC until about an hour after Stephen passed and then hanging out at the W tent at the finish line, now I think I will stay at YC/BC much longer. And, by the way, I'm in for a Krispy Kreme race. YUM!!!!
Colleen--I'll have to remember your new identity!!
Judy--Don't worry about the TM training, I think sometime Runners World has a very elitist attitude toward running and racing. As long as your getting your steps in, you'll be fine.
Bree--:wizard: for your hip!! I hope you are able to stretch it out and can run pain free for the marathon.
Okay, now for my training update. Well, there is no training update because I haven't been training. And why haven't I been training? Because I'm not able to run the half marathon. :guilty: I'm really disappointed about missing the half, but the reason I can't run is a very good reason.......................
I'M PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :woohoo:  :dance3: :woohoo:
Yep, you read that right, I am 8 weeks pregnant--due Aug. 12. I had a long talk with my doctor and he talked to 3 other doctor's and they decided that while I might be okay to run the half marathon, it's not really worth the risk to the baby. Obviously my doctor is not a runner. :) So, while I am disappointed to not be running, I'm definitely taking my doctor's advice on this. And in all honesty, I've been so tired, I have no idea how I would have trained anyway. ;)
So, that's mine and Stephen's big news and why we had such a great Christmas this year. ;) We're excited to see everyone in 9 days and to cheer you on marathon weekend. Good luck during the taper--stay healthy, stay injury-free, drink lots of water, eat lots of fruit and vegetables, and stay sane over the next week and a half!

You're in for the best ride of your life!
Thanks everybody for the stretching advice for my hip. I ran 3 on the TM yesterday and spent some time really stretching after, and I have to say it helped. Why I haven't been doing this all along I have no idea. I guess experience doesn't mean you're wise.
I have a sick child on my hands...again. Lucas has developed a nasty little cough, and we're going to the dr this afternoon. Going to try to fit in another short run on the TM sometime today. Why is it when you NEED to be doing your short runs to keep your legs loose you seem to have less time to do them??? Is it like "murphy's running law" or something???
For all you folks that live in the freezing cold where there is snow. Go run on the TM inside and crank the heat up to 75 so you'll get used to what it will feel like race day. It's not looking like it will be cool for us. UGH!

KRISTA and STEVE!
Congratulations!! Take care!
We spent a week away from the internet. I kept wondering what all the WISHers were doing! I ran fairly steady, but not too long and not too fast. I ended up never doing my last 20 miler. I decided not to risk injury so close to the start. DD(now 8) just learned how to ride her bike without the training wheels- she joined me on her bike for some runs, but she did almost plow me down a few times. :rolleyes1
I had dinner with a girl who completed an Ironman. I told her I was going Goofy and she said it sounded "brutal." This from an Ironman! She did the Mickey a few years back and blew out her IT band at mile 9- she said she limped/walked the rest of the way and barely made it. So that was scary. On the bright side, she's about 11 weeks pregnant, so I was able to get her back with scary pregnancy/labor/baby stories! :lmao: (Sorry, Krista!-- I'm kidding, I went easy on her.)
Everyone get well!!!!

Yeah Krista and Steve! :woohoo:
I know a lot of people compete in half and full marathons when they are pregnant, but it is just NOT worth it to me. I am sure it is alright for 95% of active women, but I just wouldn't want my little one have even a .01% chance of being harmed.
I was really tired in my first trimester and a queasy stomach. Any of that yet?

Thanks everybody! :goodvibes It's been hard keeping the secret!!! So far things have been pretty easy for me. I get really tired in the afternoons and evenings (last night I went to bed at 7:30  ), but other than feeling nauseous, I haven't gotten sick at all. There are other things that have affected me, but I won't go into here (you're welcome, men! :) ), but really nothing too bad. I feel like I've gained weight already and that my stomach is rounder than it used to be (Christmas and WDW back to back is not going to help that problem!--I dread going to the doctor on 2/1 and having to weigh in :sad2: ). But I'm still in all of my regular clothes, I assume I'll be able to wear them for at least another month or two. The hardest part for me has been giving up my beloved Diet Coke! :sad2:
Stephen and I are both really excited!!!!!! And extremely happy. I'm glad I'm able to share this with all of you!!!

Greetings all.
With ten days to go, my priorities are hydrating, fueling, resting and avoiding injury and sickness. I don't care for tapering. I find this is when all the self-doubt starts. Now I start to get antsy and want to just get on with it. :yay:
I'm starting a bit of a journal since I regretted not doing this last year for my first ever long-distance event. My mind is doing what my feet can't do now, running all over the map with crazy thoughts. Perhaps I can tame them by writing things down. Then again, perhaps it's just yet another technique to avoid the end of year reports I should be doing. :rolleyes1

Anyway, of course my first priority is getting checked in and getting my race pack, but I really want to meet up with everyone either at POP or to cheer at the half and the organizational freak in me is just trying to make a minute by minute itenerary.

Wow seems like everyone who is doing the marathons is doing good. Hoping everyone stays healthy for the next few days - can't believe its almost here.
Craig - Take it easy and get better. Its good that you stopped before it got any worse. Glad you are taking your wife's advice.
Cam Congrats on getting 20 miles in. I hope to be doing that at this time next year.
Mel - The weather was wonderful down here - although it WAS a little chilly. Did you end up making it outside this AM? Pixie Dust to your DH - no advice other than ice and rest for his shin splints.
Jackie - the midnight 5k sounds like fun - too bad it was unorganized but at least you had fun. Congrats to your DD and her time.
Cecilia - Hopefully all the dreams you are having will prepare you for the unexpected during the marathon.
Krista and Steve - CONGRATS!!!!!
Bree - hope your baby feels better soon.
As for me it was pretty chilly here this AM and I have the day off so I just HAD to go out for a run. I set out but had to turn around because I needed my gloves and thicker sweatshirt. It was 46F when I left the house - and was pretty windy so I am sure it was colder in the wind. I did end up taking the sweatshirt and gloves off when I got closer to the beach but had to put it all back on when the wind really started blowing. I did about 3 miles and walked alot since my calves where pretty tight but started feeling better after a bit of walking and stretching. I am still planning on doing a 5k on Sunday so that should jump start me back into running (I have felt like a major slacker the last few weeks - months whatever it has been!! LOL)
I am not going to be at WDW for marathon weekend but actually am planning to be there 2 weeks after that since my neice has a gymnastics compatition at Wide World of Sports and she hasn't been to WDW since 2004. I am so excited since in the last 3 years I have wanted to share so much of WDW with her.
Happy training to everyone and good luck.

Krista and Steve...very very big congratulations!!! I was wondering about the Diet Coke. ;) I have no scary labor or pregnancy stories, but after having Kaley with no drugs (by choice) and Lenna with an epidural I can definitely tell you which I recommend ::yes::
Bill...come on down...it's warmer over here. Poor Vic and Dana must be really frosty. I think when there's snow flurries they're usually late at night, but that may be your regular running time ;) I've never seen snow on the ground here but DH was able to build a snowman one year when he lived in Jax.
Carrie...I was hoping you'd forgotten to watch the game ;) We only saw the second half but it was certainly up and down.
Trish...I haven't made it out yet. I'm trying to psych myself into going but the TM seems so much more cozy right now ;) It's 52 degrees right now but wind chill makes it seem like 47. (I know, I know...no sympathy ;) )

mmm, babies are such a wonderful thing to anticipate!
Krista- When I found out that was pregnant with my first child, I was training for a race the next week. The Doctor (a serious runner) told me not to run in the race. It was the first of many sacrifices for my children - and I would make every sacrifice again and then some - my kids have repaid me tenfold.
Oh thinking about babies almost warms me up after a run in the bitter cold. The wind chill has the temperature down into single digits. How do you northerners run in these temperatures? My legs never loosened up at all, it was miserable. I would rather stay inside and anticipate babies....

KristaI'm so happy for you Krista!!!!! I just had to say congratulations again to you and Steve. What wonderful news. You have such an exciting time to come. Have a great trip to Disney. I'll miss you guys.

Krista and Steve-
Congratulations on your news. You're about to undertake the most difficult and most rewarding job in the world. I wish you 3 all the best.
Of course, wait until that day he or she comes home wearing football gear that is black AND ORANGE. I'd like to be in the room and see that one.
I'll see you next week and give you my best wishes in person.

What? You're pregnant? When were you going to tell me? And WHO, may I ask, is the father? :confused3 ;)
Good point Steve. Maybe I was a little hasty in congratulating you as well. Krista only mentioned you in the "big news" part and didn't say whether it was big news for you as an expectant father or big news because you were surprised to hear about it.
Craig--maybe we should go in together and get the future little bundle of joy some stuff for a good football team. I'm thinking something in a blue, red and silver pallet.

Peeking in after WAY too long, and the first thing I saw was that Krista and Steve are expecting? That's AWESOME news!!! Congrats to you both!! :yay: :yay: :yay:
Well, I haven't even been lurking much of late, since it makes me want to get out there, but my back hurts too much to even walk very much. I'm ready for this baby to hurry up and get here. We're in the final countdown now, though - shouldn't be more than a couple weeks left to go!
Hope y'all are all doing well and enjoying your taper for marathon weekend! DH and I will be cheering everyone on from here. :)

First of all
:dance3: CONGRATULATIONS!!! Steve and Krista:dance3: YAY - Babies are SOOOOO FUN!!!
Sorry I do not have time to catch up with everyone else, but I do have some much less exciting news of my own:
I am a RUNNER again!!!:cheer2: Ran 3 miles a couple of times in the last week and did PUMP at the gym 2 times this week. And my back feels great.
But the thing I am most excited is that I just figured out that our Pasta Dinner for AT (the charity we run for) on Friday night is not until 6:00 and our POP meet is at 4:30 so we can come!!!:dance3: I'm so excited to meet everyone.
For anyone running the 1/2 I will probably scream team at Ticket and Trans as I said on other thread when we ran through main street last year it was so PACKED :scared: and I don't know if I want to fight that crowd with 2 tired, probably cranky kids.
OK gotta go back to work

Craig--If my child were ever to become a Bungals fan, they would find their black and orange butt on the C-U-R-B!!!! ;) How's your hamstring today?
Mel--You would really be freezing if you were in Ohio today, we hit a whopping high 15 degrees. :cold:
Colleen and Cecilia--I couldn't agree with you 2 more, I already said this on the half marathon and pregnant thread, but I'll repeat it again. There will always be other races, but if I knew I did something to hurt my baby when I had complete control over it, I couldn't live with myself. The risk is just not worth it. I ran the 2 weeks between my pregnancy test and going to the doctor's and on every run I was nervous that all the jostling around would do something bad, the worry and concern just wasn't worth it. Not to mention that running with some extra "bounce" was just too painful!!! ;)
TX Ang--Good luck!!!! Do you know what you are having?

KRISTA AND STEVE - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
See, there was a reason you didn't sign up for the 1/2 marathon!!
Funny thing, my baby turns 5 this spring and DH asked me yesterday if I wanted another one! YAH, I would love it, but not sure I am really want a 6 year difference between the my current baby and a new baby.
On Sunday I did the stinkiest of all stinky 10 milers. It was painfully wretched and slow and agonizing... but I got it done. Tho with a stinky 10 miler I know feel under-trained! Tho yesterday I did 3 on the home TM and it wasn't so bad. Ughhh... I just want it over!

That is so wonderful! Glad you are not too sick, hopefully the nausea will pass soon.
Angie - I am so glad your back is better and you can run again!
Well I had a great 10 miler with my sister this past weekend. It was so nice to have someone with me. The miles just flew by! Unfortunately, we have lots of family visiting and they all brought us lots of germs and now my girls and I are trying to fend off colds  Not feeling so hot, but I keep telling myself I have a week and a half to get better.
I am soooo excited about the races in a week and a half!!!! I am so glad that I am no longer scared about the marathon - I am just super excited!!

Congrats Krista and Steve!!!
I'm 99.9% sure I'm done having babies, so I love to live vicariously through others! Oh, and I'm definitely going to look for that infant Browns warm-up set I have...phooey on the Black and Gold! Once again congrats!
Angie--Congrats on being a "runner again"! I'm trying to figure out my scream team spot for the half. DH wants to come too, but with two small kids; I just don't know. Maybe I'll just hop over to T&T and then head back to the hotel.
Well, got 3 miles in on the TM this afternoon--felt good and strong; although weird to only go such a "short" distance (gotta love taper). Well, I hear a battle ensuing over teeth brushing, so I must go play mediator! Night all!

Hello to everyone. I'm actually not sure if this is where I should introduce myself or not, but I'll give it a shot and hope someone corrects me or moves my info if needed.
So my name is Lara and I'm new to this board. I'm planning to do the Disney half as are all of you soon. I'm originally from Ohio, but now live in western Pennsylvania and work as a physician assistant. I did most of the disney half in 2004 in memory of my dad who had died the year prior, but I ended up stopping and helping a woman on coumadin who had fallen on the course, hit her head and was bleeding. So I didn't officially finish the race.
I started jog/walking this spring with a work friend and lost about 15 pounds, but got hurt and am back at my heaviest but starting WW this week. The longest uninterrupted jog I have done is 8 miles, but I have done lots of hiking.
In the past, I lost 60 pounds by running, but that was about 10 years ago. I'm now back on the serious journey to health and can't wait to be in better shape. I'm also scheduled to do the Indianapolis Half marathon in May with some friends from college (I'm 39!). So, that's the Reader's Digest condensed version. I would very much LOVE to walk/jog with you in the 3:15 or so group if you agree to have me! Tiger Lily sent me a nice PM welcoming me. Now I just need to know how I will know when I have found you. I am scared at the prospect of having to try to stay motivated all alone for the whole course. I know I can do 15 min/miles, but not alone.
Thanks to all of your inspiration already!!

I did 4 miles in some new shoes tonight. Feet feel pretty good. I haven't decided if I'm going to wear these or my old ones for the marathon. Folks at the running store said I should be ok in these new shoes but maybe they just wanted to make a sale. ;) The old ones were hurting my feet. I didn't think they would wear out as soon as they did. I've learned my lesson. Buy 2 pair at a time and alternate!!!!
Hope you are all having a good week before THE final week. :wizard:

Hellloooooo, Team!!
Well, after hobbling through the Chicago Distance, laying off, hobbling through ToT, laying off..it's been 5 months with no serious training due to foot issues. My exercise log says I did 1 minute on the TM a couple of times, with 5 minutes being the longest...is that pathetic or what??!! TEK224/Terri and MouseDogMom/Jackie, I don't know how you did it. I've FINALLY been able to do 30 minutes on the TM...gggaaaaaggggg!!! At least now I'm a little more confident that I'll be able to do the 5K at WDW. As soon as I hit 30 minutes on the TM, I started looking at half marathons for the new year. :woohoo: I promised that I wouldn't sign up for anything until I got this 5K done, though.
Carrie, I thought that I would bring some sliced oranges. I hope to be at the Poly, AK, and Yacht Club or EPCOT for the full. Temps look much better than last year! So looking forward to screaming for the half and full WISHers!!:cheer2:

Okay, I can really tell I'm tapering now. I'm sitting here having this debate in my mind if I can squeeze in some gym time today. Body says "Need to run, need to workout" Mind is saying "Stop it you crazy fool--take it easy" We'll see who wins. Have a great Thursday all

Anne-- and :wizard: for your foot. Good luck on making it though the 5K!
Mel and Lara--So you were both in the oncology/hematology field? I may have a stack of questions for you!! My Mom and my sister both have von Willebrand's disease and my Mom is a carrier of hemophilia, after I found out I was pregnant; I had to go see a hematologist to be tested for both. They took 5 vials of blood , still waiting to hear back from the test results.
Well Wish team, it's time for me to get back on the treadmill again, maybe that will help me from being so tired all the time! I've already decided that running makes me too nervous right now, so I think I'll stick to walking, maybe mix in a little running. Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!

Krista: I ran during my first pregnancy and was still into lifting pretty heavy and, I have to say, your body will tell you when to quit. You will just know, trust me. I walked with both pregnancies just to keep myself moving. The tiredness will subside, hopefully, in your second trimester. My DH loves to tell the story of how we took a delayed honeymoon in the Bahamas and he could not get me to do anything, I slept ALL THE TIME!!! Congratulations again...it is such exciting news!!
Today is another 50 minute run, on the TM, again, as with the wind chill, we are in the minus numbers. We now have nearly 4 feet of snow pack and I can barely see out the windows of my house. Needless to say, I am looking forward to the little vaca upcoming (okay, I am excited as all heck) and anything below 70 with a low humidity will make me happy, 50 would be great but not for anyone south of New England I am sure.

Krista - I went to DL when I was 8 weeks PG with DD2. I was tired all the time and was in the hotel sleeping a lot. DH and DD1 had all the fun!! But it gest better for T2, then back to being tired and uncomfortable T3. I never had morning sickness, just nauseous. Really, it's better that way!!! We may have to find a baby WISH shirt and hat!! Oh... and watch out, when people know you are PG they try to rub your belly. It really is a little invading!!!
OK, last night I did a Walk/Jog video and then some stairs. My kids were not cooperating with my cross training. This morning it is -7 degrees outside, so doing anything outdoors is out of the question. I just hope all my indoor running will have me prepared for the marathon.

Morning All -
I am taking this taper business very seriously! I have run a grand total of 3 miles this week! It is just too cold. I do not know how you northerners do this for months at a time! I tried to run yesterday but my legs just crampeed up and refused to get loose. I turned around rather than risk injury.
Today I am off to the treadmill. Hopefully I can keep on one for 8 miles. With all the resolutioners out there it might be difficult to stay on more than 30 minutes at a time. But I wouldn't want to keep anyone from trying to get healthy so I will share. See, I can play nice.
Congrats on your run Angie! You have really hung in there, be proud of yourself.
And congrats Anne! Way to fight your way back.
Welcome Lara!
Jen - I think the treadmill is good for taper. Its much more cushioned than a road or sidewalk. Plus all you are really wanting to do is move and keep up your cardio. My last run stunk too. I am just hanging on to the wivestale that a bad taper run means a good race.
Well, I am off to the gym and the dreadmills as soon as my new shuffle gets charged up. This one clips on to my clothes - dh has great hopes that the clip will keep me from throwing it away. I told him I only threw the headphones not the whole ipod but you know how men are, they have to make it sound dramatic.

Hi Team ....Hope everyone is staying warm...I think even our southern friends are in a freeze right now. It's sub zero here and I can't seem to warm up. I'm putting my run off until tomorrow...will do the elliptical instead....it's supposed to warm up to a balmy 30 degrees tomorrow :sunny:.
Well..I survived NYC on New Year's Eve and had a nice time with my girls seeing Les Miz, eating really good sushi, going to the museum and of course visiting the ever popular American Girl Place ;).
Oh yeah...training...well I did my 10 miler on Sunday and was able to maintain a nice 10 mpm. My knees are sore from running a mere 5 miles on the treadmill last week. I HATE the treadie...but this weather is really making it difficult to get out there and run. I did 4 miles on tuesdsay, and hit the ski machine yesterday along with some pilates.
I'm so excited to be going to WDW in ONE WEEK!!! :yay: Still nervous about running of the goofs...with me being the biggest goof....but that is being trumped by my sheer excitement over being in Disney again!
Krista and Steve: :grouphug: YAY! Congratulations!!! What awesome news.
Lara: Welcome! What a great thing you did helping that woman. You deserve to have a fabulous experience this time around.
Jen: You'll be totally fine for the marathon :). you've been training like a champ.
Lisa: WOW...4 feet of snow. I've heard Vermont is getting pounded...I'd be skiing if I wasn't too worried that I'd hurt myself before the marathon LOL. I did get snow shoes for xmas and guess what...all our snow melted. Is it good exercise? I'm banking on getting more snow here over the next few months so I can test them out!
escape: I'm going thru sneaker dilemma too. Good luck with your decision...but if you really think the sneaks are causing you pain, then maybe you need to try the new ones!!!!
Angie: GREAT news about getting back to running and your back feels so much better!!!! :goodvibes
Cecilia: Yeah...the cold is tough on the legs. Mine have been achey after running in the cold....I don't blame you for taking it easy. Especially considering your body isn't used to the cold. Hopefully your seasonable temps will return soon!!! :)
Sorry to anyone I missed...phew....had a lot of catching up to do here! HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!!!!

Just heard from DD15 who is visiting her dad over near where Bill and Lynnda live. They've had snow flurries! We're a little further south so nothing here, not even frost 'cause it was so windy last night.
Fortunately it's not a running day for me so no whining until I have to go outside ;)
I'm starting to get really nervous about this full marathon thing. I only kept up intervals through mile 14, then crashed and walked. I'd hate to have to walk 12 more miles. Just hoping to finish at this point...or maybe do the half instead (DD15 won't be using her bib)?

Another newbie to the WISH boards here! I posted on Windwalker's Lurkers - come in from the cold thread, but I thought I'd say "hello" here as well.
I'm a new runner, as in I've never-been-one-ever and just-started-running-on-Monday. My DH has been running for about a year now and started to do du- and triathlons. I'm committing myself to doing the WDW half next January, which will serve as my motivation to stick with it.
Anyway, my first run was on Monday next to Lake Seneca in NY (a beautiful first run, especially with some snow on the ground!), and my second was yesterday here at home. I'm still slow as molasses and only going about a mile at a time, but I think I've caught the running bug already and I'm looking forward to getting out there again tomorrow!
Dave and Erica, thanks for the warm and funny welcome on the other thread!
Krista and Steve, we haven't "met" yet, but congratulations and all my best wishes for you and baby-to-be! I have two children and they are my greatest belssings!
To everyone else, I look forward to "meeting" you online and hopefully in person next January. Good luck with your training and races!

Another one who can't believe how tough you cold climate people are!-
Yesterday, DD8 drove me crazy asking to ride her bike. It was in the mid-30s. I told her it was too cold, but she wore me down until I agreed. We bundled all up and hit the roads. FOR ONE BLOCK. Emma, Miss Dramatic, announced "it's so cold I'm going to start crying!" Back home we went so the princess could get in a hot bath. Seriously.
Anyone else have a 24 hour case of the munchies? At this rate, I'm going to have to slow down just to drag my extra weight! :scared1: Guess I'm just channeling my nervous energy into something!
Krista- I've never, ever been as tired as I was my first trimester with both pregnancies. I think I took a nap every lunch break. I did manage to continue walking. For me, I didn't do much more because I was just too tired to care (and who has time for all the bathroom breaks!) ;) It does get better. And yes, random strangers will try to touch your belly and then tell you some horrible story about how they were in labor for 5 days or something equally crazy. Try to ignore the groping and unsolicited horror stories!:rolleyes1
Angie- I knew you'd be back! So glad you're running again.
New WISHers- welcome!

Krista & Steve – YAY!!! Congratulations!!! You guys will be GREAT parents!
Lily – :grouphug: I am so very sorry for your loss.:grouphug:
Laurie – Glad to hear the IT band has been co-operating.
Craig – Lots of :wizard: for a quick recovery!
Bree – :wizard: for your hip. Hope the stretching is continuing to help it.
Carrie – :wizard: for your hammy issue. Glad to hear Scott is fully recovered.
Kristi – Great job getting in your 9 miles in Vegas. Sounds like you had a great time.
FLAngie – Congratulations on being a “Runner” again!
Jen – Congratulations on the 1000 posts.
Lara & fan of small world – :welcome:
Anne – :wizard: for your foot. You’ll do GREAT in the 5k!:wizard: :wizard:* to everyone sick and/or injured.
I will be scream teaming for the half. Plans are to start out at TTC. When John passes I will move to the Poly. When John passes again, I will move to Epcot (probably somewhere before you enter the park) & plan on staying there until the last person passes. I will have with me water, sport beans, wet wash cloths, bandaids, & anything else I can think of & carry. I will be wearing a WISH shirt (WISH Hoodie if it’s chilly) so if you need anything don’t hesitate to ask.
Well….one week from now I will be in WDW. Been planning for marathon weekend for so long, can’t believe it is finely here. I am so not ready for this. I really have not trained the way I should have. Missed way too many weekday workouts & my longest distance was only 18 miles. But….the 18 miles were good ones & Saturdays 10 miler was great. I will be at the start ready to go & with any luck I will feel as good as I did on the 18 miler & make it ahead of the sweepers to the finish line.
Really looking forward to seeing everyone next week!

Speaking of men and the moon, we are quite mysterious, depending on the budget we have to work with. The men at NASA spent large sums of money in the ground breaking development of a pen that would not be affected by the lack of gravity. The Soviet men just used pencils instead.

Hello Everyone!
Just checking in. It was 3 degrees here this morning, so my last pre-race tempo workout was on the treadmill. My schedule calls for 5 more short runs before Marathon Weekend...Wait a minute...Marathon Weekend is next week?! :scared:
Oh man, I leave for Florida in 7 days! Is it too late to lose some weight, completely overhaul my nutritional habits, incorpoarate hill/speedwork into my training, experiment with additional bars/gels/fluids, heal all my aches & pains, introduce myself to yoga, and test run a different pair of running shoes?
(Sorry, taper freak-out :crazy2: )

Mel - Too late to bail now. You WILL do the full! Seriously, adrenaline will carry you the first 11 or 12 miles. I bet you keep your intervals going. Knowing that not doing thenm adds so much time is a big motivation. When I started wakling last year when it got tooo hot for me, it killed me to think how much longer it takes.

Steve- I'm with you. I've actually moved past the whole "can I get thinner/faster/stronger in a week" thing to something in my control--
Yep, I'm having a major clothing crisis- you know, those shorts make me look fat, but the other ones are really tight... which is worse in a picture?.. and OMG if it is cold, do I wear the pants I've only worn lounging around the house because it's never been cold enough to run in them. I bought cheap gloves and some ear thingies, but again, never been cold enough to wear... well, except today, but I'd have to be crazy to go outside today! ;)
Maybe we need to come up with a complete uniform. I'm totally cool knowing I'll be in a WISH shirt both days. So, I'll be bringing my two WISH shirts, maybe a couple of shirts in case I feel the need to layer under the WISH shirts, and about 10 pairs of shorts/pants. I'm driving myself crazy!
Oh, and while I've given up on getting thinner/faster/stronger in a week, with any luck, I'll be able to get fatter/slower/weaker... :rolleyes1

Hello, WISHers!
I am in serious taper mode. Yesterday was just too cold and windy to run outside, so I ditched my run. As penance, I'll do the TM while DS is at soccer practice tonight. I'm sure the Y will be crowded with all the new year resolutionists.
I am so bummed that I can't get to POP on Friday! I'll plan on trying to meet some folks before the marathon starts. I will be the incredibly nervous one trying not to have a protein spill!
Krista and Steve - Congratulations! Raising a child is definitely more like a marathon than a 5K - or maybe more like an Ironman Triathlon! You all will be great!
Craig--If my child were ever to become a Bungals fan, they would find their black and orange butt on the C-U-R-B!!!! ;) Oh man -- just you wait! DH is an Indians fan an DS love the Yankees. Fortunately DH love DS (a little) more than the Indians!
Lara and Cari - :welcome:

What?? I can't lose 10 pounds before marathon weekend? Why didn't someone tell me this. I figure the last week before a marathon is the best time to go on a crash no-calorie diet. So much for carb loading. :)
Ok, does anyone else just want to blow off the next week of work and head straight to Disney right now? You think we could call up the Disney folks and convince them to move the marathon up to this weekend? Or better yet, keep the marathon on the 12th/13th, but we'll all just head down there now and goof off for a week (I'm sure we could plan some additional WISH meals, get-togethers, etc to fill up a week's time).

I found this interesting site to help you decide what to wear on race day based upon the temperature, wind and sky conditions. Us halfers will have a warmer day so it will be shorts, my WISH shirt and a Panthers ball cap for me. Take a look if you are still undecided on what to wear.http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/whattowear/0,7152,s6-240-325-330-0-0-0-0,00.html

Just heard from DD15 who is visiting her dad over near where Bill and Lynnda live. They've had snow flurries! We're a little further south so nothing here, not even frost 'cause it was so windy last night.
There were reports of snow flurries here but we didn't see any. I was all ready to shovel the driveway and sidewalks but I guess it wasn't meant to be. :lmao: For some reason Home Depot and Lowes didn't have snow shovels out. I guess they didn't think it was as critical as hurricane supplies which are starting to be put out. :confused3 I guess I will have to wait a little longer to see what snow does around here.
Mel - You can't back out now. Doubt is part of taper. Besides there are enough Wishers who will tie you up and drag you to the start. Did I miss why DD wasn't doing the half?
SWDave - Good to see you back. Sorry you won't be able to make it but I definately understand. Although a party with that many girls might cause me to find a reason to get out of the house. :lmao:
Judy - So Craig found a new toy for you...Maybe you need to use it a little during taper along with your foam roller to get you through this difficult period.:rolleyes1
Lara and Cari - Welcome, we hope that you stick around and join in all the fun.
Panda - Where are you??? Hopefully the taper hasn't had a reverse effect and made you calm instead.
Amy - Just race all the Resolutionists to the TM's. That should give them enough of a workout that they will want to stay off.
Time to see what the little one is squaking about.

Well, count me in as another who is undecided about race day attire. Yes, yes, my WISH shirt will be in the mix somehow--good thing I don't leave until next week when I'll feel a little bit more confident in the weather reports. We made a Gu stop today and got all our supplies for the marathon. The girl at the register asked me if I had ever tasted them before b/c she thought they were gross. In my mind I remembered the flavored snot comment from a couple weeks back--yes, they are gross, but come mile 15 it'll be like nectar from the gods. Then we headed to Target to buy snackies to take for the kids and of course coffee for myself (Nescafe = BLECH!!!) We won't have a car, so we'll need to bring supplies with us.
MSDave--so good to see you 'round these parts again. Got myself a red cap for xmas too, came with matching gloves! Hmmmm, so you're choosing 9 year old girl torture over 26.2 miles of torture......hey, look at it this way, at least you'll have no problems walking up and down stairs the next morning:laughing: Sorry you won't be joining us in person, but you'll be there in spirit.
Amybeth--Ah, yes, the resolutionists. Gotta love how my nice quiet gym turned into a mad house over the past couple weeks. The weekend manager almost kicked me off a TM this weekend cuz I had been on there so long--dude, doesn't he know I"m training for something impt. here!
Steve--yes, can we leave NOW! Unfortunately, I gotta pay for this trip somehow, and shirking my responsiblities at Walgreen's this weekend wouldn't fly. Oh well, at least I can say that one week from now I'll be walking around the Expo!!! Then to DTD for dining and shopping!

Jen - I'm trying to decide on clothes for the race, too. I'll be wearing my WISH shirts for the races and probably some UnderArmour if it's cold. Not sure if going with shorts or pants, yet. Will pack both and see how cold it is on race morning.
Steve - I've love to be able to blow off work now and head down to WDW to play a little before the races. Alas, I must earn some money if I want to keep participating in this so-called free sport.
Anne - hope the foot's feeling better.:wizard:
I'm sticking to swimming as my training right now. One leg is still sore. Feels like a quad strain (had one 2 years ago). Shin splints feel better. I'll be swimming tonight (although not looking forward to leaving the gym after the swim when it's 30 degrees out) Brr-r-r-r.

Just a reminder to anyone who is considering a last-minute change of plans but has kidling issues -- DD19 is coming with us and LOVES kidlets. She was coming along to babysit a friend's four children but alas, those children wont' be around and Jenn is lamenting a child-free weekend (she'll have to resort to interacting with all the little ones in EVERY LINE we stand in! :rolleyes1: ) SO, if you are going and need a babysitter and haven't yet applied for a second mortgage to pay for the fairy Godmothers, I can attest to her reliability and sweetness!

Hi all!
It's cold out there today! It was 5 degrees on the car thermostat when I left the house this morning. I think it got up to all of 12 degrees today! Oh joy, what fun. Tell me again why I live in New England?
I ran 2 hours on Sunday, did a little biking on Monday then ran 30 min on Tuesday before the snow hit. It was a pleasant run and rather nice and I'm glad I got it in before the snow. I worked out with my trainer this morning so shall take tomorrow off. Saturday I will run 1 hour then a little cross-train on Sunday. I cannot believe 1 week from right now I will be on a plane to Florida! Yea!! :cool1: Get me to some nicer weather-but not too hot!
Monte: hope the storm doesn't dump too much snow on you. How much do you have already?
Bill: if you would like to do some shoveling, you are more than welcome to come up here and help yourself. I'll give you directions to my house!
Panthergirl: the kids around here wait with bated breath whenever snow is falling to hear if school will be cancelled. They are such wimps!!
Hi Mouse Skywalker! Don't be a stranger.
nucpharm29: I used to teach spin classes and the first 3 weeks of the new year saw a huge spike in attendance. All those people who make New Year's resolutions and they last for about 3 weeks. I always thought it was humorous!
Calcio: pixiedust: :love2:
And a big :welcome: to our new folks!
Have a great evening everyone!

Put me in line for booing the resolutionists. I forgot my hair band today and was running away on the TM at the gym when one of "them" came in and turned the fan on full blast behind her (pointed at me of course) and it blew my hair in my face and mouth so bad, I had to abandon ship and move to the elliptical machine. Another one came in and shut all the TVs off because they "bothered" him. Then he turned on his Walkman (yes you read that right, the do still exist). I managed 30 minutes on the elliptical after a whole 5 minutes on the TM. Oh well, 3.5 miles later I am still a little  !
I have been wondering about clothes too. I have my skirt and a s/s lime tech shirt as I only have a cotton WISH tee. I can wear that for the 5K but not for 13 miles!! I have packed my jacket that zips to a vest and my running gloves and a l/s shirt JIC. So see, us northerners have "issues" too. Unfortunately, 50 is on the fence for me so I will just watch the posts and see what everyone else says...:rolleyes1

Hey kids-
I found Hanes sweatshirts and sweatpants in the women's section for $3.00 each at Walmart. I bought enough to have two days of throw away clothes. The sweatshirt is great- the sweatpants don't have a drawstring and they are kind of low rise so they're not great, but for $3 I can deal...

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome and for offering such an open group. You all have made me much more excited about coming to Orlando for the Half and can't wait to meet you all at the Pop on Friday and again way early on Saturday. Do I bring my own bright green shirt? Have they already sold out of snow blowers and plow attachments for the lawn tractors?
More attachments for the tractor...now I have an excuse to buy one. They had plenty of leaf blowers, would that be a good substitute for a snow blower. :lmao: :thumbsup2
Bill: if you would like to do some shoveling, you are more than welcome to come up here and help yourself. I'll give you directions to my house!
I would love to but I have to be home by dinner time, can't miss out on the wonderful meals Lynnda makes. I could also bring some small helpers that can make a great mess of everything while I am there.

Good Evening Team
So I went to the gym, that was the most HORRIBLE 4 miles I have ever done in my life!! But the sick thing is I missed running so much that I am happy to be able to have a bad run
Somebody remind me I said that when it wears off in a couple of months. So there is another thread out there about the horrendous spectator buses. I'm very scared :scared1:, somebody please tell me that somebody knows somebody who did not have a horrible experience with spectator busses.
I hope everyone has a good night

I am getting so ready to go too. Can't wait.
MSDave, I'm happy you've made it here again. Have fun at the PJ party. Are you wearing your Mickey PJs? You know there was/is? this sale on them at disneyshopping . com. I'll bet you won't get any sleep.

OK, lazy me did a walk fit video with a leg workout for 40 minutes. I may do some ball crunches later. It is so cold here that I just couldn't do any running. This morning it was -7 with a -17 wind chill!
Angie - I do all sorts of things, that's what I get for being in a small company. But my Title is Director of Sales and Marketing for a software development company. When I travel it is either for trade shows, sales presentations or training sessions. San Diego is a convention/trade show and then I blow out of town for WDW. Wouldn't it be cool if I could have hit DL and then WDW in the same week!!!!
BTW - Are you doing the kids races on Friday??? That is when we are too. Study my pic below and then look for me. Although I will be the lady straggling around with major jet lag (either that or yelling at DD4 who does what she wants when she wants!!!!) I am supposed to get in by 6am, take ME to hotel, hopefully shower and then off to the races. I really hope my plane is on time!!! Last year I found Kristi and her DH in the crowd. I was pretty proud of myself!

Tell Jenn if she can't find enough little ones to keep her occupied, I've got a 17 year old band geek coming who'd love someone to hang out with! I have a feeling they'd find a few things to talk about. :rolleyes1
Angie - I think the only thing that got me through the injury was knowing how many people here have made it through tough times - you, Terri, Cam, Sunny...
MSDave - We've missed you too. Don't be such a stranger. It's not the same when I log on Saturday morning and the first post isn't yours!
They would have called off school down here at the mere mention of snow! :rotfl:
I was really surprised that we saw flurries yesterday and I didn't get a test notification from the school system about school cancellations!
Where's Sunny with her "Caution: Half Marathoner in Taper" sign? I really need that now.
I'm so cranky I can't even stand myself. :headache:
That explains it! I was MISERABLE at work today - finally resorted to counting all the change in our Disney fund and rolling the coins to get my mind off my bad mood, then at the end of the day sneaked onto the computer and caught up on the boards. Everything and everybody got on my nerves - now I know it's just normal taper - maybe I'll make my own sign for my door!

Amy--I thought about you while I was on the TM tonight, I was listening to The Black Parade, one of my favorite songs to run to! Have you heard Teenagers by MCR? That's another good one. I might like it even better than The Black Parade, it definitely is more of a punk song.
Angie--Sorry your run wasn't the best, but YOU RAN 4 MILES!!! Be very proud of yourself!
Yeah, so I did 2 miles on the TM tonight and I was TIRED!! And winded, I couldn't believe it! Good thing I read on babycenter.com that it's very easy to get winded your 1st trimester, even just walking up and down stairs, or I would have been worried that I was getting out of shape! I walked all but last .15 miles because I just couldn't take it anymore and had to run.
I am getting very excited for you of you marathoners! Especially the first timers! Savor each and every moment of the Expo and the marathon. Believe in yourselves and don't listen to the gremlins: you have put in your steps, you have done the work, the worst part is over, the marathon is the victory party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2: :dance3: :woohoo: :dance3: :cheer2: :yay: :woohoo:

Hey Vic, I need help with this one.
I'm not chalking it up as a taper dream but...
Today, I had a dream that they were back at Daytona racing. Dale Sr. won the race:thumbsup2 . The odd thing was that the cars were shaped like turtles:confused3 .
They were all saying that the new cars drove just fine, handled like the old ones, etc.
COT doesn't mean Car of Tomorrow or Car of Today. It's Cars of Turtles!
Further reinforcement that I've got issues!

SWDave - missed you around here!
When you guys find out how to lose 10lbs. by next week, please let me know. Actually, 15 would be even better! ;)
Cam - I'd take you up on Jenn's babysitting services, but we get to leave Zack at home this time! He knows Mommy & Daddy are going somewhere to do a race....he just doesn't know where that race is.
I haven't done anything since my 9 miles on Sunday. Yesterday was a rest day, so I did just that (although we won't talk about the 'resting' I did Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...). I am not sure what my training calls for today, but I will do it. Training should be a bit easier now since Zack is going to school 3 days a week (used to be only 2 days).
Oh, I am hoping Chad & I can do Minnie. We promised to be better about taking too many trips this year (and spending too much money doing so). But my Mom is going to do the Minnie. Which means I need to do it. And Chad doesn't have a Minnie medal - and this would be his last chance. So....

I think I should stop reading the boards for the next 6 days. My anxiety level goes up astronomically everytime I get on here. Work this weekend should be be very interesting--if you hear a news story about an AR pharmacist that went off the deep-end this weekend--that'll be me. I DARE someone to yell at me this weekend. Angering someone in taper, well, that's like poking a sleeping lion.:lmao:
Some taper craziness going on here as well. This is the first "major" race I've been a party of (almost 4 times as big as the Little Rock Marathon) and it really intimidates me. I also have this huge worry about corral placement (yeah, yeah, I know an unfounded fear) DH and I are going to bring proof of time to the Expo, b/c as of right now we're literally in the back of the pack (bib number 17,xxx). For those expecting to finish in the 4-4:30 time range, what corrals are you guys in? I guess another part of my fear, is not being able to run the race with my WISH buddies (hmmmm, wonder if DH should be offended that I'm more worried about finding other people to run with other than him:rolleyes: )
Okay, and yes I'M EXCITED!!!!!!!!:yay: :yay: :cool1: :cool1: This time next week I'll have just finished my last taper run around the lagoon at BW/BC, heading forsome breakfast at the bakery, and then getting ready to hit AK with the fam!
Mel--have a great time this weekend.
Kristi--Too bad Zach won't be coming along--emma could've had a playmate again. Oh, and I thought of you NYE when they showed Las Vegas on TV. Hope you've recovered! Yeah, I know the feeling of trying not to take so many trips this year compared to last--However, I'm still hoping for another Oct. trip for MNSSHP and F&W. Sad thing is we're already booked from now until July, so we'll see what happens (meaning no Minnie for me:sad1: )

Good morning Everyone!
I went to my sendoff meeting last night. Picked up my plane tickets, hotel reservations, meal tickets, park tickets and all my shirts for the races. All I could think was "just breathe, just breathe" It is so real now.
My shirt has "mentor" on the front and back. I decided I will wear that one on Saturday since I might be crawling on Sunday and that would look bad for TNT.
:scared1: I can't sleep, I can't eat. I am in a complete panic. What was I thinking!
:scared1: Why did I signup for this? :scared1:
One more thing: Is it just me or did the numbering for the corrals change from last year? I had an old numbering system that had me in corral E but the one I just read has me in corral C. Does anyone know for sure?

oh wait! I forgot to say hi to Dave  You will be missed. Slumber parties are a ton of work but they are fun. We always plan a fast paced scavenger hunt and a long round of twister to tire the girls out. (insert evil laugh)
By the way, my dds and their friends love potato chips and french onion dip. They think it is an exotic treat. Evidently noone else serves the old stand-bys anymore.
