DH and I have been working on getting our year files in order as the year ends and I've noticed a rather alarming trend. Like a goof, I keep all of my scrap related receipts including postage receipts. I did an informal tally and stopped around $2,500 for the year with a rather significant pile still left. For all that money spent, I only have about 50 pages done for the whole year even though I've made and received some gorgeous swap items. :teeth: This brought home a rather alarming thought.
I need to stop buying scrap stuff, cut back on my swapping and start getting some pages done! This is more than just a page productivity thing for me as DH and I are planning to buy into DVC this year and a decrease in my scrappy spending will be helpful for that.
Honestly, I don't know if any of y'all are looking to save, reduce, be more productive or whatever but I would really, really love to have a support group with others who have the bug and are trying to reduce their spending/swapping. As such, I'm proposing a 2008 BAN Wagon.
Here's how it works: Make a list of items/days that you are planning to buy this year. Items could be regular needs like adhesive, specific Cricut carts, a new trimmer, etc. Days could be your birthday, anniversary, Valentine's, Christmas. These are the days you are "budgeting" for. Any spending outside of that is off limits.
This will be a support thread for all those that are trying not to buy/swap. As such, no enablers for sales or pics of adorable swap items are allowed. You can share your success stories of how you withstood the temptation of a great deal as long as you don't provide specifics that might tempt others.
Post your list of items/days to hop on the BAN Wagon and then lets support each other from there. Remember, this is a place to dream, wish and hope for those goodies so that the rest of us can try to talk you out of spending the $$$ for them. Just think! If you save up the rest of the year, you can spend even more on your special days!!! If you should happen to fall off the wagon, admit it, let us support you and then move on. Just please don't share the details of what made you cave!
I'll start with my goals for 2008.
I will participate in a maximum of 4 swaps this year (not counting Secret Sister exchanges) and I will do my best to use my stash to create my items for said swaps.
My free days are:
My Birthday (April 3)
Anniversary (Oct. 5)
Christmas
2 free days of my choosing
I will only purchase:
Adhesive including CM tape runners, glue dots of all sizes, ZIG pens and Xyron refills
A new paper cutter that won't have constant worn out blades (looking at the Making Memories or Purple Cows portable)
Cricut mats and blades as needed (no more than 2 packs of mats every 3 months and 1 pack of blades every 4 months)
4 new Cricut carts TBD at a later time - I'm thinking Opposites Attract, Doodletype, JOTS and one other
Monthly membership in my Ribbon club
Solid cardstock

I definitely have to cut back on spending. I just started scrapping on January 1, 2007. So, I started from zero and over the course of this ONE year I have collected:
-the Ellison Design Big Shot (though, to be fair, that was a surprise from DH, not something I purchased)
-3 Big Shot alphabets and a whole tray of shape cuts, as well as cutting pads (regular and extended)
-the Cricut
-the Cricut Expression
-17 Cricut cartridges
-Cricut tool kit
-Cricut spatula
-extra Cricut mats (all 3 sizes) and blades
-a Xyron 510
-a rolling cart for paper storage
-2 Cropper Hopper organizers
-many pounds of paper
-miscellaneous stickers, brads, ribbons, rubons, glitter, pens, adhesives
We are saving for an August trip, and I really think it's time to stop buying and use what I have. I have completed 101 pages this year, and I've never participated in a swap, so I'm not concerned with page production. I just have to reduce my spending....in my own mind, anyway. DH doesn't care what I spend:).
So, I'm hopping on the ban wagon.
My free days:
January 1 (It's already been planned to go shopping with the friend who got me into scrapping:))
May 11 (Mother's Day)
August 14 (my birthday, though the actual shopping will probably happen after since we will be at WDW for my birthday)
October 25 (wedding anniversary)
Christmas
2 free days that coincide with great cartridge deals:)
I will limit myself to 4 new cartridges over the course of the year, and try really hard to hit a great sale to get them. My BFF recently got a Cricut and hasn't ramped up her cartridge collection, so she will likely buy carts I don't have so I'll have access to new carts that I don't have to buy:).
I will limit my supplies to adhesives (Zig pens, photo mounting squares, tape runners), mats, and blades. The only patterned paper I will buy is a Christmas stack later in the year (I have a ton of patterned paper that I hardly ever touch, but I will make myself use it this year).
I may need more solid paper, but I will use what I have first, and when I go to the store to get the paper, I will bring limited cash and leave credit cards/checkbook/ATM card at home so I can't spend more than I have on me.
These are my goals for 2008.

Yay Kim! I have a BAN Wagon buddy!
I think your goals are very reasonable. I also appreciate you posting all the stuff you've bought this year because I think your list beats mine. :lmao:
Good luck and let's be accountable together!

I'm jumping on the BAN wagon...
I dropped swaps about mid-year last year and now need to utilize my stash...
My free days:
2 TBD
Apr 9
Jul 22
Christmas
I have 2 cartridges I'm after this year... well, 3.... so that will be my limit..
My supply limit will be... mats.. adhesive, solid paper...I'll get all those on sale...
I also started mid-year.. I set a certain amount when I go out and I can NOT use any more than that...and I only utilize cash... DH thinks I'm nuts but he'll see the savings in the end!
The only other must pay for item will be my photos to scrap... once a month..

My DH will thank you.
I'm in.
I am so not listing what I have purchased since I started this little hobby a year and 7 months ago. But I probably could have financed a long weekend at WDW, easily.
My weakness is paper. I hoard the stuff. Never use it, just have to have it. That said, I will only buy paper on my free days.
Valentine's Day
Mother's Day
August 28
October 18
Christmas
and 2 FD tbd
I will limit myself to said paper buying days, adhesive as needed and only on sale or with coupons, 2 cricut carts (if there is anything new in the offering, no buying older stuff), and printing photos.
I will only purchase the paper and hardware if it is on sale near or at my said days.
I will limit my swapping to only what can be sent in a priority envelope, no more boxes of swaps for me.
I will only sign up for 6, yes you read it right, only 6 swaps before the summer. I will have to shop my stash for these swaps. No buying anything new. My resources will need to re-evaluated at the summer to be sure I have enough stash to continue swapping.
PN96, will you help me keep count?

I just tallied my spending, and I'm sure I missed a few receipts along the way.
Are you ready??? $3561.72......:faint: Good lord do not let my DH see this!!!
disclaimer - that did include 2 Cricut machines.
OK so I am sooo joining the ban wagon, we need a ticker. I'll work on that later.
Shopping dates:
Mommy Day 5/11 or National Scrapbook Day 5/3
Birthday - 11/24
Christmas 12/25
2 TBD dates
Necessary Supplies:
$15/ month for Lisa's crop
adhesive - purchased at Lisa's (I usually buy 3-5 at a time)
cardstock - only on sale and if I'm in the area. All my stores are 30+ minutes away. And only for specific pages.
mats and blades
photos - no idea how much the spending limit will be on this. I am planning to scrap at least 2 WDW trips so it will be a lot. I'll let you know those costs as we go.
Bonus purchases:
4 carts - 1 will be the other princess and 1 will be Joys of the Season. I'm reserving the other 2 spots to see what else comes out later in 2008.
CKC Hartford - I promise to keep the shopping to a minimum and to join the crops so I can get some pages done.
SDV Orlando - I promise to spend more time scrapping and less time in the parks. I don't usually buy much anyway but I do take the classes.
Swaps:
I'm not sure, I really need to decide if I want to do any.

OK! (big sigh) I am in! I am a little scared of falling off the band wagon, but I think I can do it! I don't even want to add up what I have spent since I found the DIS scrapbooking boards! It's too scary! :scared1:
My free days are:
Valentines
Mothers Day
June 12 (anniversary)
August 2 (bday)
Christmas
plus 2 free days TBD (seems like a lot, but I don't trust myself :lmao: )
I will only purchase:
-solid cardstock
-any patterned paper has to be for a project that I am working on and have nothing else for it
-adhesive
-mats and blades
-photos
-as far as the cartridges go..... yikes.... I'll get back to you on that one....

Put me on the BAN wagon. I have spent $$$$ over the past few years with 2 (yes 2) pages to show for it. I don't need anything. I need to scrap, if i actually run out of something I will replace it.
My goal is not to buy anything (I will give ideas for gifts) until I have made 40 pages. With my current completion rate this will take forever, but I will think of all the $$ I will save.

Yay! We have BAN Wagon jumpers!!!!! Welcome PN96, AWM, BAMB, aroyer and PamCo88!!!
I knew I wasn't the only one but it's nice to see that others feel the same way.
Great job on putting together your lists. I totally missed the photo developing on my list so I will add that.
BAMB - Thanks for thinking of a ticker. It didn't even cross my mind.
So, while my DH is pretty happy about this whole thing, he is being a total enabler at the moment and keeps asking me if I want to take advantage of the Cricut cart sale thing before the end of the year. I am close to caving because 1) 2008 hasn't started yet and 2) he said he was still OK with me getting my 4 carts next year.
What would y'all do??

Put me in! I have been scrapping for 2 years now and have filled 2 CM bags (the old ones - not the trolley), the rolling Disney trolley, a small bag which is now bulging with stamps and inks, 2 other pizza boxes full of Bazzil and other bits, plus a MM trimmer secreted under the sewing box  stuff piled up on the buffet next to where I scrap (including my Xyron PCS) and a big folder overflowing with swap stuff :guilty: I carefully throw away all my receipts so there's no evidence that I've spent anything :rolleyes1 My problem is I put all my energies into swap stuff, so my pages have to do with what is to hand, therefore I need more frillies for my pages! (But I do use my swap stash when I can ;) ) So my days will be:
23 February or thereabouts (spending birthday money)
1 day around April (for my DLP trip)
1 shop from each CTMH catalogue (I feel I owe it to my CTMH consultant as she has to get it all from the US then from Cambridge UK to me)
1 day at the end of summer (bargains only!)
1 Christmas shop
I also resolve to use my Xyron more (although I might have to buy another set of design books as I'm bored with the font, but I've seen one on cut@home I want) and I will only take part in swaps I know I can use:
primas
embellishment swaps
colour swaps
scavenger swaps (maybe)
seasonal swaps
I will aim to make all these swaps out of my existing stash :thumbsup2 They've changed the rules on Cm so you don't have to have a rolling total, so I'll have no excuse to buy everything new just to keep active. I will allow the following as maintenance rations:
solid cardstock
adhesives
albums, pages and protectors
mats and blades
photos
New big kit not allowed unless as a gift!
Not sure how good I'll be at sticking to it (we Pisceans are weak-willed!) but I'll give it a go.

I will jump on the ban wagon for shopping although I am not willing to give up swapping at the moment. I spent 1670.03 on scrapping supplies (yes some was for secret sisters and some was money I recieved as gifts but still that is like working for as little less than a month). I also spent $493 on going to the CKC conference just on hotel and class and registration fees. That does not include wehat I spent on postage and that had to be about 200-300 at least
My Spending Days:
Sometime in early January (to spend my GC and other Christmas money)
Valentines
July 3rd- Anniversary
Nov 22- birthday
Christmas
4 other days (1 per quater)
I will use more of what I have on hand for swaps- but I will still participate, although I will limit myself to:
3 swaps per month
No more than 4 groups in a swap (except ones I am hosting so I don't pay postage)
No swaps that I can't see an immeadiate reason for doing (if I don't have pictures or already have the event planned I can't swap for items for it)
I will purchase only:
solid cardstock (if needed for a specific project- I must use what is on hand before shopping)
adhesive
albums I have a specific purpose for (only if I don't already have an album the right size - I can alter the cover if needed)
mats and blades (no more than 1 mat per mnachine per month and no more than 1 blades for craftrobo this year and 4 blades for cricut this year)
patterned paper only for specific projects
no more than 1 cartridge per month and no cartridges that are not on sale (I have only purchased 3 carts (the Disney shapes) that did not come with the machine)
AlexWyattMommy
12-28-2007, 07:43 AM
I guess the mats & blades for my cricuts will have to fall on my shopping days. Hopefully I won't need to buy many this coming year. I do have a few albums that I can alter the covers on, so I shouldn't have to get any this year, IF I scrap any of my own stuff that is. :rotfl:
:car: getting out of Dodge quickly!
I don't spend that much, at least I don't think I do.:confused3 :lmao:
Ever since this summer when we had our scrap shopping hiatus, I've been doing good. I have been using my stash and getting kind of low on paper. Hard to believe considering I LOVE paper, and I have a LOT!
I'll put in writing that I will only buy cricut mats and blades, CM adhesive, albums, and paper when needed.
The only big things I will buy will be the Becky Higgins Sketch book, theCricut Accent Expressions cart (I have a gc for that though) and a CM tote bag. (I sold mine right out from under me at a crop, LOL) Oh, and if I find any carts for under $20. I am still determine to find one, haven't given up hope.
So I wonder what I should do with someone's wish list things? :joker: :rotfl2:

All right, I think I fit in this, too! :) I don't keep receipts for scrapping stuff, but I know about what I spend each month. DH doesn't care--he has his videogame fun, and I scrap! However, I do need to be more productive this year (I make HUGE Disney albums, and then the family album falls by the wayside). Here's my plan:
What I will purchase:
paper--on sale only, and mostly only solid color, unless there is a particular Disney one I need for a particular page
adhesive--Xyron tape runner and photo splits
Cricut mats and blades, as needed
Cricut cartridges--I have all I want for right now, but I'm holding out for any new Disney ones!!
Ordering photos--one of the earlier posts said the same thing I plan to do--once a month order the photos from that month
Refill pages and albums from CM (I will only order when I'm completely out or ready to fill an album)
Swaps:
I will only participate in the 4 park swaps and maybe 1 other. We are taking a kind of special trip in March, and I have already used most of my stash. I know that from June-December, I won't be swapping, so if they happen to fall in there (any of the park swaps), I won't be in them.
Page Production:
I will get our family albums caught up! Currently, I haven't done from April 2006 until now. I'm off to get started on that this morning! Also, I have about 15 other albums (various themes) that I want to work on.
Isn't it great to have a support group?!?! :)
MomOf2DisneyKids
12-28-2007, 08:11 AM
ok, I'm in. I have sooooooo much stuff that I haven't touched in years. Oh wait, I haven't actually scrapped in ages either! :rolleyes1
The only things I might need are cardstock, pens, and adhesive. Oh yeah, I'll order photos!!!
I might buy things for my bday or Christmas, and I'll take 3 other free days (TBD), but I don't have a cricuit or anything that takes carts, so my spending will be pretty low in cost. My downfall has been new disney things that have come out, but seeing as how all my pics from my last trip are already in a normal photo album, I don't need more stuff. I'm more likely now to make a photobook on someplace like kodakgallery.com than I am to complete an album. That's just where I'm at now.
I'm not going to participate in swaps, but I'll put down a max of 1, just in case there's something that I absolutely can't resist! I have tons of swap stuff just sitting here, looking beautiful, but not being used!
Just say no!!!!!!!!
BernardandMissBianca

So I wonder what I should do with someone's wish list things? :joker: :rotfl2:
LOL hold it for now, I'll use it for my 2 freebie shopping days! Besides how much could be left??? :rotfl:
Rebecca, thanks for reminding me about CKC. I need to add that into my bonus list.

The way this thread is going, there isn't going to be much swapping this year.
I need to be on a ban too. I was going to do it until we moved to Denver. But then a week before our vacation, DH's job decided to announce ANOTHER restructuring plan, only this one includes offshoring 70% of the company by 2010. Not good news. So the move is on hold until we can get an idea of how long DH will have a job (or if he can find a new job in Denver). I am also not looking at an entire year ban, but a 9 month ban.
But with the way things are working out, I'm going to start out my ban by shopping!
Recollections is going out of business by the end of Jan. I already cleared "stock up while it's cheap" shopping with DH when I heard about the closing.
I am also shopping at the LSS this week to use my birthday coupon, but that is 2007 shopping and doesn't count.
Other acceptable purchases:
*Adhesive (glue sticks, zig pens, I have several roles of ATG already, so I am hoping not to have to buy more until the second half of the year)
*Cricut mats, blades. One blade pack for Fiskars trimmer.
*photos for printing
*refills for albums
*basic colors for cardstock (white, brown, black, red)
*Cricut carts: Stretch your Imagination, Joy of the Seasons, Mickey Font and 1 more
* items needed to finish specific projects for my own albums, or items needed for any "gift" projects for friends/family.
** (see below)
Instead of listing specific days to shop, I will just say around July 4 (anniversary) and 3 other days (probably will be tied to when Js, Ms puts most of their scrapbook stuff on sale), 2 Hobby Lobby trips.
Swap participation: As long as I'm not moving, I will participate in KatDisney's swaps since I don't have to pay for postage. I might also participate in the swaps that get sent non-priority (41 cent, embellishment swaps). I am also thinking about making "extras" of things I make for my books, that I could trade (and send cheaply in non-priority packaging). I can use my stash to make what I can, and not have to buy stuff if I have enough material for 3 sets, but I need 6. So look for activity from me in the "Pass it Forward" thread.
**I think that is everything, but there might be some essential that I am forgetting right now, that I reserve the right to add later. Or if Cricut comes out with 5 new Disney carts in the first or second quarter. :rotfl2:

I forgot albums and refiills. I should only need one other album which I will use a coupon on and hopefully refills will be purchased with coupons.
I am teetering already. I just straightened out my scrap room to prepare for start cropping my Dec. WDW pages (discovered I need black and red paper. Wonder why I go through so much of that.;)) But I remembered I want to get the new Becky Higgins book. I need to add that to my list.
Side note: I played around with my Disney font cart and made a mickey sillouette ticket. Soooo cute. I am going to use it as matting for our passes.

Welcome MazdaUK, rlovew, Lisa, SIOH, Momof2DisneyKids and hopemax!!
Congrats to all of you for listing your goals. It doesn't matter if you only want to limit a few things or all of your activities as it's still good to create a plan.
Now Lisa - you have 3 days to go buy your new red and black paper before the BAN begins. Stock up now so you can set yourself up well for the new year.
Thanks for joining in. I hope this group helps all of us achieve our goals. :wizard:

the book is back ordered. I ordered mine on my birthday from Scrapbook Clubhouse and they still don't have it in. And the CK website is out too. Hopefully it will come in some day.
I have the mags though if you want to borrow them.
If your paper is page specific then I say buy it. You can't get any scrapping done if you don't have pages right? I run out of black and brown a lot! Those I will need to constantly refill.

I would say that albums, refills, and adhesives don't count. Those are necessary evils of creating. And I fork out money to go to crops since I don't get anything done at home. I hope to rectify that soon, since DH is home. I'm taking over the dining room, I just need to get the mega swap out of the way and get his stuff out of there.

ok right click the image, copy and paste, and don't forget your img brackets.
AWM I think you will need to shrink your tickers down to small to fit everything if you want the glitter sig.

I'm so bad, I'm putting some of my personal stash in my clearance bins at the shows I do, plus I'm setting a bunch aside for our yard sale this Spring. :scared: I'm sorry to say that I've been a scrapbook supply COLLECTOR for the past several years and don't have much finished to show for it.
I design page/album kits in addition to the t-shirt portion of my business, so that has consumed all of my scrapping time. The last thing I did for my family was our 2003 WDW trip. I used to be good at least keeping up with the Christmas album, but I haven't done that since 2003, either. :( It looks like I'll be starting my Master's this year, which with homeschooling and running my business will REALLY cut into my scrapping time, but I need a few little goals.
My goals: SELL all this stuff that I "think" I'll use, but never do. I may even add my Cricut to that list...I have the big Klic N Kut and the Cricut, while I love the Disney cartridges and such, just doesn't get the use to justify it.
Get Christmas caught up.
Finish the one CJ I'm in (that is SO far behind) and learn to say, "No".
Make a scrapbook for oldest DD of her singing in the Candlelight Processional.
finally, I have some copies of old black and white photos that were part of my parents' barn fire that I'd like to scrapbook for my mother. She had put all of our baby books, photos, memorabilia out in a barn on some property to "make room" in her house (enormous house with 3 attics that is jam-packed with "stuff") for her Christmas decorations b/c it was just too hard to bring them in every year. Sadly, some punk (probably my niece from the looks of things) set fire to the barn on Halloween, so all of our family legacy-type things went up in smoke.
I will only buy things AS I need them and will use them. I will not buy anything for "someday". I obviously have to add some things to my arsenal for the page kits I create, but I'll try to limit that to items on hand as much as possible. The amount of ribbon I have makes me queasy...

I'm in since after mid-January I really need to save money for my Disneyland trip at the end of April for my birthday.
Free Days:
-The entire months of May & June- That should be enough time to purchase all I need for my DL scrapbook. This may include trips to Grand Rapids and Detroit for Disney related scrapbooking supplies.
-Christmas
Supply List
-Adhesives
-Cricut Mats
-Cardstock and Bazzill from LSS only when on sale for 4 for $1
-Only absolutely necessary paper for specific projects
-Photo developing
My goals
-Finish New England scrapbook
-Work on my many Chicago trips (I have one to finish and 4 I've never started)
-Purchase Paper Dolls
-Purchase maximum of 2 Cricut cartridges TBD.
-Purchase Cricut Expression after DL trip.
-Start and finish DL scrapbook.
-Work on digital scrapbooking.
Once DL scrapbook is complete (if it is still 2008)
-Continue work on Chicago trips
-Work on Gettysbrug/Washignton DC trip from 2006
-Begin Gettysburg 2007 trip
There really needs to be more time in the day! ;)

wow those are some big totals! I'm so glad I went digital! This year I probably spent less then $100 on digital kits, definately less then $150. I have had one book printed this year, which cost ~ $60 from Shutterfly.

This is a good idea. I'm in.:thumbsup2I'm usually pretty disciplined with most things. It's those really great sales and the scrapping aisle at Big Lots that do me in.

Adhesives
Page Protectors
Project-specific Cardstock
Monthly $5 Card-making Class Fee
Supplies to make gifts for other people
Cricut Blades and Mats
Paper Doll Dress-Up
3 Other Cricut Cartridges (just in case and only on sale)
Photo Developing
Project-specific Ribbon (only from Leftovers)
Free Days
Valentine's Day
Mother's Day
August 7 (anniversary)
December 2 (birthday)
2 Additional Days TBD
Days ending in "y" (Just kidding, I'll be good.)
I do need to work on my scrapbooks, but I've tried to set a conservative goal of two pages each week. I'm going to try to limit swapping and use my stash for any I join. I will do my best to participate in the scrapping with swapped items challenge.

take your tickers and delete the space in between them so they are side by side in your edit signature window. it's ok if they run on more than one line in the window as long as there are not on separate lines. Then right click the 2008 and paste it next to the do not spend sign, add your on either end and you should be good.

I think that may be what I'll have to do too. I tried making sure there is no space in between them, and if I click in front of one and backspace, it starts to delete the letters in the previous ticker, so there must not be a space there to delete. (Did that even make sense?) I didn't "return/enter" after each one, so I don't know how they are on separate lines.
Anyhoo, will you be able to update your tickers if you do it that way, or would you have to save to the computer etc. every time you needed to update days or total pages or whatever?
Also, I tried the right click and copy on the 2008 glitter sig (both from B&MB's sig and from the body of one of her posts), but when I go to my edit sig page, it won't let me paste.

I got your way to work. I had to delete all of the [url] ticker factory link stuff before the [img] part. That is what is making our siggies stack instead of go side-by-side.

Nope, she was the last person in her family, so all my baby photos...gone (I did have one that I had a copy made several years ago to put in a frame with my DD's, we looked EXACTLY alike, pink dress and all!). The ones that were saved were in a tin box, still damaged, but able to get some of the images copied. They were mostly of my brothers. It still makes me sick to think about all the family history gone because of her 16 Christmas trees (seriously...sixteen). I'm having a hard time letting go of the anger which is why I think scrapping these would help me. Oh, and the "important" albums are still in her house...the ones she's done with photos of all the places she's been where other people were taking pictures of their families and she was waving everyone out of the way because "who wants people in their photos???" :sad2:

I just did an updated post right below your post. Yes, if you save them to your computer, you would have to re-do the whole process every time you update.
I tried just pasting the links from ticker factory and then deleting all of the url stuff and that worked for me. Does that make sense?

the 2 tickers that you have, you will have to update manually. Just go to tickerfactory.com enter the password they asked for edit and hit save? I think it's save. My computer saves the ticker right on the site, not sure if it's me or the web site that does the saving.
I know that was clear as mud!!! :rotfl2:
If you can figure out how to update the ticker on the ticker website you will NOT have to re paste it in your siggie, it will update on it's own.
As for my blinkie, I have no idea why it's not working for ya!

I'm in! I'm usually pretty good about only buying on sale or with a coupon, but I live within 20 minutes of several HL's, Michael's, JoAnn's, Recollections, and a handful of LSS, so there is always something on sale! I go to a crop each week -2nd and 4th Friday night at a friends house, 1st and 3rd Saturday night at LSS with different friends at each. I have 3 teenagers and my hubby works on Friday night- I need my scrapping nights! I've scrapbooked for years, but in the last 4 months, I've completed 2 huge Disney albums, and 42 random pages. I've been on a mission! But this mission has been expensive.
After reading every one's goals, and getting some good ideas, these are mine:
Use my stash
Only buy paper as needed for specific pages and solids
I just bought an Expression-so mats and blades-maybe a cart?
Adhesives
I'm going to try to not buy any stamps, stickers, embellishments of any kind, and use what I have and the cricut.
I can't decide which days to pick, I'll do that later.
I plan to make one more trip to Recollections (or 2)
I'm going to limit my crops to $5 or $10 for the crop and not buy anything until I've depleted my stash. I think I should be good for a few more albums
I have 2 more Disney trips, a Denver trip, this years holidays, and about a gazillion random photos to catch up and start 2008. My Dad died last year and I haven't scrapped a holiday since-maybe I can try again. I've never done swaps, so I don't know what I'm missing!
I have no idea how to do the tickers, siggies and all. So, I'll wait for a teenager to help me. Good luck to everyone and I'm so excited!

When you right click on the 2008 glitter banner that BAMB made, click on "properties" at the bottom of the list that appears. That will bring up the URL which you highlight, copy, and paste into your signature, then add the image tags before you save it to your signature. It's just like posting a photo from shutterfly to here.

I told my DH about the 2008 BAN Wagon and he laughed at me. He said there was no way I would pass up the paper packs at Big Lots or getting the lastest paper to come out at the LSS. So I guess the only way this going to work is that I have to stay out of the stores. And no skipping down the scrapbook aisle at Target either. This is going to be harder than I first thought. I might need those 30 day tokens to give something to look forward to.
However, we did say this was a 2008 thing, right? I've got a few more days to go hit the stores. :rotfl2:

(as long as i just spend that, right!) and i really, really want the paper dolls cart so i will buy that, but hopefully that's it!
so i'll need AWM to keep me from buying ANY dies! no sizzix, no cuttlebug, no big kicks, no quickutz, no ellison, no dies of any sorts. OH BOY! well, i'm in so no means no.
no how do i add those fancy, smancy signature thingys to my siggy?????

Anyway, my free shopping days will be:
My birthday (and that is in a few days...)
Mother's Day

June 23
July 2
and 2 free days.

The hardest part of the battle is putting down the items you already have in your hands. Doesn't it make your palms itch! WTG on resisting temptation!!!
I've decided not to do the Cricut cart deal. The ones that I really want right now are on backorder or are still pricey. I'd rather wait until they come down and get them all for the price of what I would pay now plus the S&H for the "free" one. Besides, I just don't feel right starting on this journey by making a huge purchase. I really want to try to do this the right way.
Now can y'all convince me that I'm not making a mistake? :headache:

I will be able to buy mats and blades for my cricut. I will only buy a new cartridge if there is any more Disney like Pooh and friends. I have a large amount of paper and I need to use that. I will ask my MIL to keep me in line. She has started to scrap and we can support each other and stay out of the stores!!!!!
My shop days are Feb 11 anniversary
Mothers day
birthday sept 7
3 other days
I am also going away for a scrap weekend in January.
As for swaps, I can't help myself. I am so far behind in my Disney and family albums, I get tempted easily. I still have not used any of my swap stuff yet. I will limit myself one swap a month. I may have to change my mind about this as I have not looked at the calander lately.
OK enough babbling, I am going to scrap tonight :cool1: as my DH plays his game. :rolleyes1 At least we are in the same room.

Way to go Nancy!!!!! Good for you!
I am cleaning out my stash, I tore out all the layouts I want in the 50 magazines I had (I think there were more than 50 but I lost count) I filled 3 paper bags of magazine bits I didn't need. I have all of my 1994 pics sorted in chronological order and I have the first go round of one of our WDW trips, honestly can't remember which one. So next I need to sort the pics into pages, find layouts, and get paper and embellies out.
I did however take stock of my adhesive. I have 2 rolls left so I know I will need more on the 12th.
Are we supposed to tally our spending totals? good and bad?

Count me in! Although I'm not sure I can commit to specific shopping days, I will commit to not buying anything I don't really need or haven't thought about for a long time. (No major purchases either). I will limit to one or two cartridges unless Cricut comes out with tons of disney.
I don't want to limit swaps for one reason....it's the only way I get myself to sit down and do anything solely for me. I do only participate in groups that I have pictures for (with 2 trips to scrap).
I do have to sort my stash and I got a paper rack for Christmas so that will help. I have tons of paper. I will use said stash for swaps.
I will put on ebay anything I don't use and recoup some of those funds!
I don't even want to know what I spent last year but it was too much! Postage was a big items so I need to consider the number of swaps and how much stuff (sticking to envelopes!).
I will use more creative and cost-conscious ways to embellish my swaps - jpgs instead of stickers, etc.
I'm sure there will be more I can think of committing too but I'm tired!
Hope this isn't too vague?

Okay, I've thought about this and I am having a hard time coming up with days and stuff. I think the way I am going to go about this is that I am making myself commit to scrap before I can buy something. So my plan is for every 10 pages (that's huge for me), I can spend $20.00. That way I am sure to at least get my scrapping done.
In regard to swaps. I am limiting myself to recipe swaps this year. I have tons of pieces to add to my pages and want to work through those first. But I can't give up the recipes, I love those!!!

:headache:
You are NOT making a mistake - temptation of a 'deal' is sometimes a money sucking deal.
IF you are looking for a specific cartridge AND you have permission from yourself within your parameters (or before the BAN) to get it, try stalking ebay a bit - I got a few early on very cheap - like bags, tags, for 15 bucks and the mickey font and mickey and friends for about 35 each by seriously stalking some auctions. Keep shipping in mind of course. They fluctuate. I've only bought 1 cart from a real store and that was with a gift card to get the cinderella disney one last week (which I have yet to open but have big plans for).
I forgot to add that I have to actually make two books asap on my disney trips since I've forked out the cash for the swaps and also for the pictures!

I have 4 alphabets that I don't use anymore and a bookplate template. I might have a few more, I'd be willing to mail them to you, or drive 1/2 way. Anything to help out a sister! ;)
i'd love to give them a good home! let me know how much to ship them and i'll send you the money to ship them. anything you need? i probably have it in the big mess i call a scrap spot!

Well, organizing was insane! I don't know if I'm done yet, but I found many Christmas presents (and even some Halloween items...) that I forgot I had. So, that gives me even more resolve not to impulse buy for any reason, not just scrap stuff. Yikes!
But on the plus side, it totally inspired me to get working on my CJ - pictures are printed and colors selected. :) I'll be early this time around!

let me go through the box to make sure you don't get duplicates. I know that one alphabet has some sticking issues so I'm not sure if you want those.
I'll edit this post when I get to the box.

Well you ladies are certainly motivated!
I purposely do NOT keep my scrap receipts because if I were to total it up, it would seriously freak me out. It's easily in the thousands and I don't want to think about where in the thousands it falls. I am proud of what I've done this year in terms of pages and gifts, so I don't think that it's a waste, but when I have an entire room devoted to scrapping and I am busting out of that room, it's time to do something.
I'm not going to limit myself to specific shopping days, but I am going to make a concerted effort to scale back. I've already been doing that for awhile - using my stash for swaps, avoiding buying things just because they're cute or I may use them "someday," trying not to wander into ACM "just to browse." I went to a LSS where everything was 35% off the day after Christmas - some people in line in front of me were spending hundreds of dollars, and I spent a measly $14, so I'm doing pretty good.
I also want to scale back on swaps - I have enough Disney park stuff to finish the few trips I have left to scrap, so I cannot sign up for any more of those. I am limiting my swap signups to ones that are different than what I've done before or instantly usable based on my scrapping plans at the time.
I'm a hoarder, so I could likely go on a complete shopping hiatus for a good month or two - I have enough ATG tape, other adhesive, cardstock, blades, mats, etc to last a loooong time. Let's see how long I can go without setting foot in a scrap store. But, I know myself, and I will not be able to resist the call of Cricut cart sales. I'll allow myself an indulgence every now and then if I'm doing well overall.
I am so using the 2008 signature though - that's what I want to focus on - meeting my goals.

When you right click on the 2008 glitter banner that BAMB made, click on "properties" at the bottom of the list that appears. That will bring up the URL which you highlight, copy, and paste into your signature, then add the image tags before you save it to your signature. It's just like posting a photo from shutterfly to here.
:woohoo: This worked! Guess I can now create in '08!:yay:Thanks Kim!
And thanks Buffy for creating the glittery accent for our sigs and for all of your ideas to try and get that sig to work for me.

I'm organizing this morning, and I can't believe the amazing stuff that I already own. My DH keeps telling me to have my friends over to "shop" my crap room. I could hold a sale and still have a ton of stuff! I have so much swap stuff, and I opened a cabinet, and there was stuff in there from 2 years ago that I totally forgot about...Cruise Swap, elements...sheesh...
Now I have to take a break and take DS to the movies...and I HAVE to wait at the shopping center till the movie ends (there is a Mike's up there :rotfl:)...too far to come home. Shopping ban starts 1/1...

Alrighty Ladies! I'm on board. My DH has been so wonderful so far with all of my spending, I think this is the year I need to scale back a bit. We're also hoping this is the year for us to be blessed with a child. We have always said that we wouldn't limit our hobby spending (he's a video game junkie) while we didn't have kids. So with that in mind, here's my list of "allowed" expenses.
Adhesive
Solid cardstock
2008 Disneyland Album
Pictures
Anything purchased with Gift Cards are also allowed
Swaps/Crops: I'm slimiting myself to 1 per month or 12 for the year
Carts: anything <$50 is fair game I only got the Big Bug during Black Friday so I'm trying to slowly build my collection.
Goals:
2006 Disneymoon Album
2006-7 Life Album
2006 Wedding Album
2008 Disneyland trip
Stash of Cards for the year - so I don't have to buy them
3 Dog Albums for my Mom
that's the list so far ... I reserve the right to update it throughout the year.

Well, I wasn't going to join in......Surely I don't spend "that" much on scrapping supplies...I don't even participate in swaps.....THEN, I decided to start my book from Spring Break last year...I had been buying "beachy" stuff since probably last Feb to complete our 10 day trip to the beach......when I laid all the paper & supplies out - I probably have enough stuff to complete 100 beach layouts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO here's my resolve:
I will limit my shopping to 6 events:
New Years Day
Spring Break 2008 (we usually visit all the scrap stores whereever we go)
Summer Vacation trip to Vermont
& 3 days at LSS or Hobby Lobby as determined by sales
I will however need to place my CM order in Feb, May, AUg & Dec. BUT I will limit that to pages, page protectors, adhesive, & albums. Depending on how much I scrap...I will only buy enough to last 3 months until the next order....
However I will NOT buy anything from Jan 2 UNTIL March 22!

I did go get my adhesive at HL today. 4 packs of squares, 1 zip dry, 1 art accentz (that red tape stuff). I also spent some Christmas money on one and only one cuttlebug embossing folder. Can't remember who used it on one of the last swaps, but I really loved the look. And it has to be easier than using the Fiskars stencils & stylus apperatus. ;)
I also spent $20 on 120 sheets of Bazzill in basic colors. So I shouldn't need to buy any more cardstock until my birthday in August. The only bad thing is that because it was in bulk, I will never, ever, remember the names of them (and they are discontinued colors, I think). So I can't do any swaps that dictate Bazzill color this year.
It was really hard to pass by the ribbon, felt pieces, and fiber offerings. But I did it! :woohoo:

I don't have all the reciepts from this past year, but have made some big ticket purchases including Xyron Wishblade (~$350), Cricut (~$125), and Cuttlebug (~$40, had a coupon). Add to that our WDW trip, wedding, honeymoon cruise, and moving from WA to CA it's been a busy and expensive year! I can tell everytime I look at our debt board (whiteboard by our computer & safe that has all our current amounts due). So I am definately on board with this and while the below may seem like a lot of days, I am also limiting myself by a total $dollar$ amount for expendible items (as notated below).
Days
2 days TBD
Birthday
Day I find my LSS (only been here 3 weeks)
Day we visit after my sister & family move down here, prolly mid to late Feb (huge scrapbooking store on the way to their new town)
Scrapbook Convention
DL trip before Christmas
Items
Adhesives & Sealants
Acrylic Paint
Solid Cardstock
Photo Developing
DL 2008 Scrapbook Kit (once available) **expendible**
Digital Kits (only for layouts I ALREADY have planned) **expendible**
Cuttlebug Disney Emboss templates (was supposed to buy this year, but no one had in the stores) **expendible**
Blades/Mats for Cricut & Wishblade **expendible**
5 stamp sets spread throughout the year to make the stamp camp cards with **expendible**
Subscription to CK, BH&G (no one renewed these for me this year for Christmas :( ) **expendible**
Lettering Delights Alphabets -only on dollar days and only for layouts I am waiting to title **expendible**
Disney Page Kits from big Store by sis **expendible**
CKC registration & classes **expendible**
In addition to this, I will make a list before I go for any specific pattern/specialty papers and only spend from "allowance" account (I have $50 of each paycheck set up to Deposit into my "allowance" account).

If you want to be anal...you could make like 1" punches and put them on a key ring, send them to me, I could match them up with the Bazzill swatch books I have, write the names on the back, and send them back. Like I said, if you are feeling anal. :rotfl2:
Speaking of Bazzill, I went to the LSS owned by the Bazzill people. They give you 20% off your entire purchase once during the month of your birthday, and December is my birthday month. I bought a bunch of metallic paper, a little Bling, and 50 sheets of black, plus some patterned paper. I was hoping to be around $50, but it was $57.
However, before we went to the LSS we went to DH's favorite store. It's a used book/movie/game store. We took a bunch of things for trade, most of it was my stuff so instead of me spending my trade credit, he got it and I got the cash for the LSS.
I have my 2007 receipts, but I haven't (and don't plan on) adding them up. I keep them in case I need anything for insurance purposes.

I am jumping in the same wagon as Susie. I have many reasons for my scrap booking. It is my guilty Pleasure and something my DH says nothing about my doing. I can come up with so many reasons why I love doing this. I don't have the ability to go out and buy a new cricut cart every month or buy new tools. My biggest splurge is paper. so with that being said I shall "try" to
- Not buy any paper just because it is "pretty" I have to have a need or use for it at the time of purchase.
- Not join any swaps that I have no use for. Seriously I join swaps because I have the "someday syndrome" such as cruise and WDW swaps.
If I think I can do hold out on anything else I will let ya all know :)

I have to say that already you have all inspired me. I have had a crazy week - dad went into the hospital thurs before Christmas and came out on the day after, then moved today to a new apt. and I've been sick all week. I escaped a party a few hours ago and left DH and DS there (have to go get them in a minute) and decided spur of the moment that my relaxing time was going to be going through and organizing some swap stuff! I had some files but not official file box so I grabbed a regular box for now and just started sorting. I'd say I got through about 3/4 of it (unless I find more that I didn't realize and then maybe it's 1/2). The good part is, now I am very excited to get to work on my disney books (April 07 and recent Nov 07 trips) since I have such cool stuff to use! I never did elaborate books and now that I have all of this awesome stuff I should be able to put together an elaborate book easily!
More good news is I'd say 95% of the swap stuff I have is completely relevant to those two trips!!!!! So that's one thing I've been good about.
So now I have a question - I have a ton ton ton of pictures so I need to put a few on each page or my book will be the size of the encyclopedia britannica (remember those sets?). With all of these lovely items to embellish the page, any tips for how to make a nice page with all the embellys and still get lots of pics? I already crop down the pics.
Thanks to all for the inspiration!!!!

Okay, I would like to try this too. I really need to cut my spending and use what I have. My main goal this coming year is to actually use some of this stuff. I know I spend to much, I just can't control myself when it comes to scrap supplies. I'm especially a paper junkie. I'm going to try to get my pictures organized and get some books done!!
Allowed expenses
adhesive

cardstock
Cricut mats and blades
Not sure how to limit my spending yet, I like Dyan's idea about getting so many pages done and then rewarding yourself. Have to think about this and update later.

It was the swirling pattern one. My LSS had them 30% off, but I didn't like the patterns they had. Something that looked like snake skin, some squares, some circle/flower in circle, and word ones. I knew I would never really use any of those. The swirling one reminds me of the Disney Princess swirling papers.

I should never have read this thread! I can't join. Why? I am Catholic (not a very good one, but I did have 12 years of Catholic school indoctrination). If I fail, I will feel guilty. Heck I already feel guilty, and I have not joined, bought anything or failed! However, I do think it is a good idea for me to make an effort. So, my concession will be to keep a diary of what I spend. I think this will help keep me in check. Also, I am a chronic list maker. Having another list to make will make me just as happy as buying paper I have no real need for.
So, shoppers who cannot shop...where can I get a year's supply of black and red 12x12 cardstock, on sale of course, before the year's end?

You could go to some of the online galleries (the virtual scrapbook thread has some good ideas there to click through). Also, you could see if your LSS has the Becky Higgins Sketch book - not to buy! But my old LSS (before the move) had a copy in their crop room that you could look through. The book has the sketches broken out into # of picture tabs. HTH and doesn't make you want to buy the book.

Okay.... I'm jumping on!! (But with trepidation!)
My goals for 2008: Finish our 2005 Disneyland trip BEFORE we go to WDW in April.
To finish another full TWO calendar years for DD and DD's life albums
To finish and print digital books of the family tree I started last year.
Necessary Purchases during 2008:
Adhesive (Dotto, CM tape runner, Xyron refills, Zig pen, glue dots)
Solid, basic color card stock (black, white, brown, yellow, blue, green, etc)
Photos (of course!)
Page protector refills
May need a few new albums for the Disneyland pages.
"Buying days in 2008"
Mother's Day (May)
Birthday 6/17
I couldn't justify calling any other day a buying day... DH would never buy me scrapping stuff for our anniversary, so why should I give myself permission to buy on that day??
I do have a $20 ACM gift card that I got for Christmas that I will be hoarding and using when I find something that I just can't resist sometime this year.
I will need everyone's support to stick on board this year!! And I will try to be supportive of you all! .....................P

Help help. My MIL is going to Joann's today and I am going with her. We have to also go to Target which is in the same shopping center. I will try to not buy anything but, I know that is going to be tough. I know that it is still 2007 and that is why I may set a limit of 10.00 and that is it. My DH is at the Eagles-Bills game all day and I'm sure that he will be spending money there. I can reason through anything. Well wish me luck.

Scrapshop Logic is a whole lot like Disney Logic. If the rack is x night I would got for #nights, but with a discount the rate is y night so we can stay for + more nights.
Look through your supply first. Only buy what you will really, really use. No buying because it is pretty or on sale. Just because it is on sale doesn't mean you save money if you don't use the supplies. No buying because someday you might use it.
You are strong!

Its like clothes shopping - if someone gave you the full price of that dress or shoes would you still buy it, or are you buying it because its really cheap and/or you think ( :rolleyes1 ) you can lose the weight to get into it? (anyone else ever buy shoes that don't really fit because they think their toes will shrink/grow?)
Classic styles/colours you can always use (also Christmas and birthdays and other annual events) but if you don't have a baby, aren't planning one and all your friends and relatives kids are 8-12 years old - leave the baby stuff on the shelf:lmao:

I'm in! I love to buy stuff that is pretty and cute and that I will probably someday use. I do need to stop spending. So on my free days can I buy any stuff that is cute or just what I need?
I will buy-
solid cardstock and patterned only as needed for specific pages
adhesive as needed (I just got the ATG gun for Christmas so hopefully I won't fun out as quickly as usual)
albums and page refills as needed
photos
Becky Higgins new book
I will only do 3 swaps
Days will be 8 free days for the year (that sure doesn't sound like many shopping days!) because I will be going to a few scrap nights and convensions and I'm not sure when they are.
Now I need to go online quickly and order some disney stuff that I want.
I have a Disney book to finish from last Feb., a NY trip to do, many pages in the kids book and we are going to Maui and South Dakota this year, so I have LOTS to do.

I think free days are just that. Free. If you want to use those days to stock up with necessary items or use those days to buy that pretty paper you just have to have, it should be your individual call.
I don't know what I'm going to do yet. But I had better be using up my stash before my first free day.

I'd like to join! I don't dpend a lot of scrap stuff, but it does add up!
I will (attempt, lol):
Not participate in any swaps
Make an effort to work on my albums at least twice per month
I can buy:
Solid color cardstock/paper, OR paper I don't have for a specific LO (soccer, something like that), assuming I'm ready to or currently working on said LO
12x12 binder-style sheet protectors (this way I can work on what I want to, instead of making myself scrap in order. I use CM albums, and if I scrap only in order, I get stuck and don't scrap anything)
Adhesive as I need it (CM tape runner and Zig glue pen only)
CM pages/protectors as needed
One CM album, since mine is almost full. A second album, if I actually fill one (hahahahaha!)
NO Cricut carts, unless needed for school project for DS (not likely)
I will NOT:
Shop for SB supplies with DH grandma or cousin (they're BAD influences!!)
Buy paper just because it's cute
I hope to:
Catch my family album up at least through 2007
Finish our WDW 2007 album

Good advice. I'd love to buy one of her sketch books. Her "My Creative Companion" book is fantastic. However, being budget-minded to start with, I started making my own BH books. I've printed copies of her layout sketches from the www.creatingkeepsakes.com website and put them on index cards on a ring. The other thing is to print out sketches from sites like www.pagemaps.com and www.scrap-maps.com. I have those in a binder. Although I love the smell and feel of a new book, this was my budget-friendly alternative. Those sources will give you lots of ideas on how to get lots of pics on a page.
I know I didn't have this on my list, but I'm thinking it's an acceptable exempt item...While working on a project this afternoon, I discovered that my all three black micron pens are out of ink. That's a pretty cheap supply to replace, right? And there are still two more days in 2007.

Ok, did my first refusal - got the ad from Joann.com with 40% off all scrapbooking stuff, looked through, found 3 punches I liked, and then x'ed myself off their website. I can do it...I can do it...I can do it!!!
BTW- am I allowed to buy extra pages for scrapbooks?. With all the materials I have to use, I'll need more pages.
Caroline:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Caroline, I would consider album pages a necessity, so additional pages would fall under that.:thumbsup2
There's that scrapper's logic again.;)

Love these ideas! Thanks so much. I'm a hoarder at heart so I avoid books since I never actually use them and then cant' find them. And other than scrapbooking of course, I try to be as paperless as possible so websites are the way to go for me!!! A web bookmark beats a book in my book!

I've got to check out my Dollar Tree to see if they have those page protectors!
I was very very good today - I went into ACM because I needed to replace my good Fiskars scissors and I had my 50% off coupon, and I just got the scissors and nothing else!
Why did I need to replace them? Because my cat threw them away! My cat loves to knock things off the edges of tables and desks, and there is a trash can under my scrap desk. I must have left the scissors out (which I normally don't do) and he knocked them right into the trash can. I thought I had just misplaced them, so I asked DH if he had seen an orange-handled pair of scissors. He said, "Yeah, I threw those away last week. They were in the trash can." I said "Didn't you think it was odd I'd be throwing out a perfectly good pair of scissors?" and he replied, "Yes, I did, but am I supposed to check every item in the trash can to make sure you really intended to throw it away?" Fair enough. I've learned my lesson!

Oh that bad kitty. :cat:
:rotfl2:
I went to HL today. I've been wanting a new corner rounder, the one I have currently doesn't always line up right and I get these really weird cuts on only one side. And I've been wanting a fancy corner/embosser maker. I was going to go to Jo-Ann's because they have 30% off , but HL had 50% off. So I went there instead.
They also have their paper, stickers, inks, markers, Spare Parts, and ribbon, all 50%. I was sooo proud of myself. I picked up a couple of Karen Foster's Stickers and then put them back.
I walked out with only what I went in for. Spent $10. :woohoo: Course this is still 2007, so it doesn't count against me. ;)

Not sure if this is the thread to post this, but I am quite proud of myself and you will all get it!
After being inspired to join the BAN, and then posting goals for the year, I managed to sort out my swap stuff this weekend (how I did it with all going on and being sick I don't know). Then I got crazy today (got out of work early for NYE) and pulled out the pictures from the April 07 trip which were already sorted by park, etc and I started pulling swap stuff to go with the pictures and bagged those up for the whole trip.
THEN, if you can even imagine that in a short period of time (we are talking maybe 3 hours to sort the swap stuff over the weekend, and an hour and a half or so to match up all the pictures tonight), I sat down and did 10 pages:banana: Amazing how much easier the pages go when all the stuff is together!!!
So first I am patting myself on the back:thumbsup2 and then I am saying that if I can work that into the crazy life I've had this past week and the nasty cold and lack of sleep, then anyone can do it!!!
Plus, all this without spending a dime! :woohoo:
DS has encouraged the use of smilies! Just to splain why there are a few in this post:dance3:
Ooh - and since there is a smilie for it, I even managed to do a load of :laundy: which I NEVER do as DH does it!

I was not feeling good yesterday and I could barely manage to get through the day. My hope is that I actually complete a page today. What I really should do is get my cards together and see what pics I need to print. Hi :)
I would like to join in on this, and I hope to get to know each of you better!!! I just recently redid my entire scrapping room. I seriously thought I was the only one who bought and bought and bought, and then never did anything with it. So, while moving my stuff back into the room, I saw how much I really had. It is mind blowing. But my husband never complains and he usually goes to ACM with me. He was my partner in crime the other day when I finally got the Cuttlebug. I had two Joann coupons, so I used one to get the machine, and he used one to get me an alphabet. (they were for 40% off, but the girl gave each of us 50% off!!) I need to stop buying. Seriously. I don't know if I can do set days or not, but I would like to just try to not shop as much. I am going to try to do as good as possible. My nearest ACM is about 40 mins away, I only have one LSS and I never go there, she doesn't have much good stuff so I have no desire to go. We have a Joann in town but it is teeny tiny and they only have one tiny aisle of scrap stuff.
Well since today is the 1st I can say that I haven't bought anything this year, so I am off to a good start :)
I am going to try to keep receipts this year and track how much I really spend.
I need to get some pages done.
I also make a lot of cards and I am going to try to sell them this year. So we shall see what the year brings.
Good luck everyone

Welcome!!!! Yeah, I too have a shopping problem. I knew it was bad when I started sorting embellishments into binders and I had 7 Snow Whites. LOL I knew I had them but couldn't find them so I just bought more.

Welcome aboard, pongoperdigirl!
The more I think about this "ban", which is really another challenge of sorts, the happier I am about it. Besides the obvious financial benefits, there are creative benefits, too. I think that not being able to just go out and buy something will force me to be more creative.
As an example, I was working on a Christmas layout last night and I used my last piece of a certain shade of pink paper. Well, I cut it at the wrong size and none of the other pinks I had were quite right. So, after going through my solid paper a billion times, hoping another piece of that color would magically appear:), I realized I had to come up with another idea. It took a little while, but I came up with a Plan B....and I like it even more than the original idea!

Good Job Kim- and yes that is exactly what this challenge entails.
Okay, I have to confess that yesterday I did go out shopping but I only bought a system for storing my paper so i could see it, that way I would have to buy more when i wanted a certain color. DH and I have had it on our long term save and then buy list and yesterday we had decided to buy a number of things off the list since we are getting ready to fill out a FASFA and we don't want them to expect us to use the saving we had for other things so we bought a laptop, a scanner, and a larger (32 inch) television set.

So I haven't been on much over the holidays and this thread is alreayd long.
But count me in. I've alreayd cut down on my swaps and have them all organized now but with the baby coming and a month without pay I need to cut back on my shopping. Since I'm not sure when I will be out shopping I'm not picking days but I do vow to limit what I buy to what I have a use for. I will go through my stash and try to use up what I have. Being a SU demo I have to meet my minimums but thats pretty easy just buying the necessities that I need from them and then getting my couple of friends orders. I haven't bought much little boy stuff yet so I do reserve the right to do a majoy shopping for that stuff once he's here. LOL

you'll have to change the saving one manually. I haven't been able to find one that will add up automatically unless you pick a travel one or something and then set the date of event to today. Then it should automatically add an "x days since ......" in the tag line.
Did that make sense?

I don't think would have counted anyway. That isn't a consumable. I think anything that helps you scrap better is a good thing.
I will need to pick up new tweezers soon. Mine are all scraped up on the outside edges and make it hard to let the paper go. It gets kinda hung up. I don't need a whole new kit, so I'll have to look around to find just the tweezers. And with all the paper piecings I signed up to do, I don't want to sit there and get frustrated when a new pair of tweezers will remedy that.

Ok, I'm so in. I have been thinking about this all week and I agree, I have spent so much money in the last two years on scrapbooking. I'm going to go with a reward system type thing. I'm going to give myself $20 for every 20 pages I scrap.
I have gift cards from christmas for Hobby Lobby and Michaels, so I will spend them first on what I need to buy. I'm also going to limit my swapping to once a month. I have to look at the calendar and check out what is out there coming up.

I was good today!!! I went to Staples because DS11 needed a new binder and we were out of paper clips so of course I was in the paper clip aisle and they had such cute paper clips and colored staples. The went into the buggy but I took them back out and decided that if I need them on my free shopping day, then I will still get them.
Now, do organization things count??? I did buy a 5x8 index card box and dividers for m scraps. They are out of hand! But if it's for the good of the scrap, then it's ok right? I will use more scrap pieces.
Oh, goody, if organizational things don't count. I've been waiting a ribbon organizer for awhile. My little basket with the ribbon wrapped around square boards isn't working any more.

I went to wooden spools on a wooden thread holder. Now if I could just get a room to put said holders in. I only needed 3! :rolleyes1

Well I made it two days, that has to count for something right??
I also, made a couple cards, took their pictures and posted my first items on Etsy!
So at least I used some of my stuff I already had, and if I can sell some, then woo hoo
Then I could use that for more scrapping....or Disney trips?

Those might work. Will need to check the next time I'm at a sewing store. Thanks for the suggestion. :):worship:

I would say organization doesn't count, AS LONG AS YOU USE THEM! No buying and then sticking it under a table or in the closet or "maybe, someday I will have a use for this..." Organization helps you be more creative and use your stash because you can find things. Plus, it tends to make DH's happier because places don't look like a bomb went off. Happy DHs are a good thing, especially if things our DH's buy don't count. :rotfl2:

Slowly getting caught up. DH took me on a surprise getaway trip for NYE so I'm way behind. Plus, I rely heavily on my DIS emails and they aren't working. :guilty:
Way to go on starting the sorting. Figuring out what you have makes such a huge difference.
I'm not sure about tallying the spending totals. I do it because I like to know how much I'm spending. :scared1: I'm not sure it's for everyone, though I wouldn't have a problem if everyone wanted to do it.
I  the reward idea. I wish I had thought of it before I limited myself. Do you think anyone would notice if I went back and edited the first post to include that? :rolleyes1
I purposely do NOT keep my scrap receipts because if I were to total it up, it would seriously freak me out.
I'm beginning to wonder why I do it. It certainly didn't make me feel good!
It was really hard to pass by the ribbon, felt pieces, and fiber offerings. But I did it! :woohoo:
Good for you for resisting the urge!!

I still have 6 pages to go to get caught up. Y'all are chatty!!! :flower3:

oh boy, see i already thinkin' i might need that!!!!!!!;)
what's it been 1 day and i'm already thinkin' about falling off the wagon!!!!!
Sit yourself down and repeat after me. I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it. I may want it but that doesn't matter because I don't need it!
- Not buy any paper just because it is "pretty" I have to have a need or use for it at the time of purchase.
This is SOOOOO me! I  :lovestruc  paper and it is totally why I scrap. I am forever buying paper because it is pretty or cute. We'll support each other, 'K? :thumbsup2
I have to say that already you have all inspired me. I have had a crazy week.
Sorry your week was rough. I use www.pagemaps.com when I am looking for layouts for specific numbers of pics. They break it down for you.
So, shoppers who cannot shop...where can I get a year's supply of black and red 12x12 cardstock, on sale of course, before the year's end?
www.madaboutscrapbooks.com has great deals on bulk Bazzill. The more you buy, the less it costs.
I'm in! I love to buy stuff that is pretty and cute and that I will probably someday use. I
This is SO ME!!! My only problem is that I never use it.
I made it without buying amything. I am proud of myself.
[COLOR="red"]
I just got in from shopping and I didn't buy one thing for me... nothing...
I too had a successful AC Moore trip today. Nothing. Granted I didn't even go down those aisles, but I figure that's progress, right? :)
GREAT job, y'all! Especially good plan, Mickster. Out of sight, out of mind!
I know I didn't have this on my list, but I'm thinking it's an acceptable exempt item...While working on a project this afternoon, I discovered that my all three black micron pens are out of ink. That's a pretty cheap supply to replace, right? And there are still two more days in 2007.
Totally necessary!
BTW- am I allowed to buy extra pages for scrapbooks?. With all the materials I have to use, I'll need more pages.
More pages are a totally necessary expense. Good job on turning off those Joann's ads. I need to do that also.

Why did I need to replace them? Because my cat threw them away!
That is the best excuse for shopping that I've ever heard! Methinks I have some kitty training to do. :lmao:
They also have their paper, stickers, inks, markers, Spare Parts, and ribbon, all 50%. I was sooo proud of myself. I picked up a couple of Karen Foster's Stickers and then put them back.
I walked out with only what I went in for. Spent $10. :woohoo: Course this is still 2007, so it doesn't count against me. ;)
The first part of your post is definitely an enabler alert but that is OK since it was pre-2008. The second part of your post is just fabulous. $10 with a sale like that is incredible. Good job!!! :thumbsup2
Anyway, I was going to Mike's today to get the MM carousel...and DUH...lightbulb moment  I have an old lazy susan. Now going to find some disney mugs to stick on there...
Spending for today... $0.00
Repurposing something old into something new...priceless :teeth:
Re-purposing is the best!!! :goodvibes
My free Days:
April 3rd- My birthday
Hey! :bday: to you. We share a b-day!!
That is totally inspiring, Maria. I hope I can do something like that!
I'm back from my annual January 1 shopping trip, which is on my list of scrap shopping days posted earlier in this thread:). I stuck to my list 100% and feel confident that I can make it to my next scrap shopping day (Mother's Day) without falling off the wagon:).
Great job on sticking to your list!
I hope I'm not enabling here, but since many of us listed photo developing as necessary, Walgreens has .10 prints (others may have a sale this time of year with so many people getting Christmas pics). It may be a good idea to get that done now instead of later when the price is up.
Photo developing pricing shouldn't qualify as an enabler because it is a tool. We can't exactly scrap without pictures, now can we?

I went to Target yesterday and found nothing to buy in the scrap aisle.
Now THIS is an accomplishment!
I was so good yesterday!!! I DIDN'T SIGN UP!!
Good job on resisting. I get so caught up in the excitement of the sign-ups and then I have swappers remorse when I realize how much I'm going to have to spend to complete my spots.
Good job on resisting! No, I don't think organization items count because they allow us to use our stash more effectively.

Tonight I spent $1.91 on cardstock for a swap I signed up for last year. I underbought on the original purchase so had to get more. I don't think this should count for my BAN as it was a commitment from my pre-BAN days but I'll leave the determination up to y'all. Either way, I've added it to my 2008 Scrap Expense file for now. I am at least proud to say that I went into the store, picked up the 3 sheets of paper that I needed, paid cash and left. I didn't even browse the 50% off table full of goodies leftover from their New Year's Day sale.
I'm pretty proud of me even though I spent $$.

Paper you have to buy for a swap because you underestimated (or made the wrong colors like I did) or messed up cutting doesn't count towards the ban. Honest mistakes happen and the work you accomplished with the BAN shouldn't be penalized for that.

I agree, organizational stuffs and items needed to scrap swaps and pages don't count towards the ban. Consumables needed to have a nice page, or $$ spent on printing pics should be exempt.
For me it's the browsing through the scrappy isles in the store checking out the "pretty new papers" or the "I can use that for ____ stickers" or the "hey cool, a new tool" spending that I'm banning on myself.
I was told over the holidays by more than 1 person that I do everything "over the top." Got me thinking...that is not something that I want to change. I like "over the top". So, for me, the ban is on the aimless spending, along with not signing up for every swap that is offered. AND hopefully getting my time organized better so I can send priority, and not overnight anything ($$$ not so well spent :sad2:)
I have been re-purposing a few things, and that has been fun. DH came in and thought the prima bottles were cute, and I used some old spice bottles and ball jars for some things, so I'm feeling pretty good. My challenge today will be to go to Joann's and only buy what I need for a sewing project, and not any scrappy stuff :rotfl:

you'll have to change the saving one manually. I haven't been able to find one that will add up automatically unless you pick a travel one or something and then set the date of event to today. Then it should automatically add an "x days since ......" in the tag line.
Did that make sense?
Makes perfect sense. Thanks. I'm going there now to trade-in my old ticker.
And congratulations on the Mod job!

Thanks for exempting me! I was hoping it wouldn't count, especially since I was laser-focused with my shopping and didn't get anything else.

I hear this all the time. I made wine jelly for gifts for all of my co-workers this year and everyone called me Martha. I love to make things look nice and I don't want to change that about myself. I'm a total perfectionist and I'm OK with that.
Great job on the re-purposing. At Joann's, just tell yourself, "I don't need it and I'll feel better about myself if I don't get it." The feeling of accomplishment of NOT buying it makes it all worth while.
So I only spent $3.10 cash (was 30% off) does this count against me since its for a swap? if so, BAD Lisa :guilty: did look around, I have a GC from x-mas, but I didn't see anything that I REALLY needed or wanted!

If one of your goals was not to restrict swaps, then you have to spend $$ to pay for said swaps. The important thing is that you didn't use the need to buy some brown paper as license to go crazy with spending.
My DH doesn't really mind my scrap spending. He was just very matter of fact that we could do other really awesome things if I cut back some. A guaranteed Disney vacay every couple of years via DVC is worth cutting back.

Okay, I feel like I did pretty good today, but still there's that hint of guilt for spending anything. I went to Hobby Lobby today. I had to exchange some duplicate Cuttlebug stuff from Christmas.
I brought along patterned paper swatches to match cardstock for a project that I started but had to stop due to lack of a cardstock match. So that was project-specific cardstock (on sale), which is on my list of exemptions and the project is for my birthday book on my goals list.
Picked up adhesive (necessary).
I also bought a Staz-On black stamp ink pad (on sale) for a set of tumbled tile coasters I want to make for my dad's birthday (in 9 days). That project is also on my goals list. I resisted buying any stamps and have arranged to borrow a set from a friend.
So I got out of there for about $7, and two goals will soon be checked off.

As time ticked all three I liked sold out, so no buy here. I was also waiting for next month with the TSV they will feature. I did put on my list 4 online/qvc purchases.
I will have to go to AC, hopefully they will have their cs on sale soon. I need a few colors for the character swap and a set of stickers. So far no spending for 2008.

Then I fell off the wagon! I went on Ebay and I crashed and burned. there is a woman who sells pre-made pages that I have bought from before who's work is beauitful, well she was sell 10 custom made (anything I want) for 86.00. That came out to less than $10.00 a page, I could do a page for that! So I bought that, as I need a professional looking book for each of my kids by December.
Can I start again?:confused3

Huge Panera fan family here too. DD always gets a ceasar salad and a chocolate chip cookie. Me, french onion soup and an Asiago Roast Beef sandwich. Yum. Too bad it is too darn cold out otherwise I'd be needing to go to Panera for lunch today, but I refuse to freeze my bippy.
On a positive note, I went to Mike's today, with a 50% coupon to buy paper. Okay, I knew the paper would be on sale, the coupon just happened to jump into my purse. I was sooo good, I only got the paper, a discounted gingerbread house kit for DD (she loves making them, great craft project on a snowy day), and shamrock confetti for a Irish Step Dance Party I am going to this weekend. I ended up using the 50% coupon for $1.00 package of confetti.:confused3 The bright side was I stuck to the scrapbooking ban even with a 50% coupon tempting me.:goodvibes
Now Ms. Moderator, I think that is worthy of me getting released from the naughty mat.:rolleyes1 Pulleeease?
well I would let you out but you said a naughty word!!! So 5 more minutes Missy, then you can get out.

I was so good - I DELETED my Hobby Craft e-mail with the sale info, even though they have 25% off a heat-it tool and I could use it sometime with my embossing powders, because I don't use them for scrapping  I have seen that X-shaped Xyron adhesive thing reduced down to £2.99 so I mgiht get that, as I have said I ned adhesives (and I can use it to make serendipity squares to make my paper go further :thumbsup2 ) BUT I resisted the cute new bradlets in the same catalogue.
And they said she'd never make 4 days without spending:lmao:

Went to Walmart today...bought off my list, so I was good. I usually get adhesive whenever I go, but DH got me the ATG gun for Christmas  so I'm good for a LONG time :rotfl: So, I got new Cricut mats (best price around, on my buy list). A cool tool tried to get in my cart, but I spoke very firmly to it, and it went back on the peg. I'll see it again on 2/29.

My kids are picky eaters... well, DS11 is the worst.. good gosh I have to make 2 dinners.. on some nights... but when he eats, he puts it away...
I need to get some paper this weekend....so we'll have to stop by JO's on the way home from DS11's basketball game.
Ugh, Lisa you can't use the word SN** in its fullness! :) You'll be off that mat soon...
Dyan.... We need to move her into the center of the wagon and get her back under control.
I agree with BAMB show us a link to those pages and I'll forgive you! :)
I need to clean house before I can scrap today. My dad is coming to stay at my house for the first time in my adult life because he has a flight at 5AM tomorrow and I live 20 minutes from the airport. Needless to say, I'm going to get pictures because this will probably not happen again...
Good job to everyone who has been tempted but didn't spend... It's too darn cold for me out so I don't even venture out of the house except for the must do errands...

Well, with any 12 step program (or in our cases 12 x 12 step), there are always little slips. Remember the first step is to admit you are powerless...
And I agree, post the links...please :lmao:

Nancy, when my mother had to stay at my house when her floors were being installed, I wrote up Rules of the House. Since she was living under my roof, she had to follow my rules. :lmao: It was hilarious. Most of the rules were silly, we had a good laugh on the role reversal of an age old parental saying.

I'm about an hour south of Sacramento, they are really getting the worst of the storm, our gusts have only been around 40-60, but has been blowing steady since about 10 last night along with heavy rain, its dark, grey and DD is about to send me through the roof, so I told her mommy need some DIS time and she's watching HSM2 for the 50th time.

My MIL bought me an paper holder that the lid has an area to hold stuff also. She got it at Joanns. I told her I would give her the money and she said no because you are doing that BAN thing. How nice is she!!! Well I am going to a crop at a LSS with missesdisney tonight. I am going to resist to look at anything. I will go to my spot and just scrap. My goal is 10 pages.
Wish me luck.

So far I've been good - they xyron sticker maker was out of stock so I didn't place an order (saved on house spending as well!!) and I could have taken DS to orchestra today and gone to Hobbycraft on the way home, but DH said he'd rather do the driving than the ironing, so that saved me. Only trouble is DS(8) looks like he needs some new paintbrushes for his Warhammer painting.... I think we'll have to go to the Mall so DH can keep an eye on me ;)

I was good this morning - went to Michaels for some plain cheap cs for my pages (so many swap things don't look right on busy paper for disney stuff) and I got a pack of I think it's 75 mixed colors 12x12 on sale for 8 bucks. I ran out of every colored large brad I had this week so I got one small pack of colored brads for 2.99 and then I left! I even put down a few things that I was looking at!
I didn't commit to specific shopping days but this is exactly what I wanted to do with this BAN - slow down and only get what I need.
So I'm meeting bearbear tonight for a crop (my first) and have a list of bazzil colors I need for a swap on another board - I have exactly the colors and number of sheets (I am stingy) so I don't spend more!
I will keep my eyes on my work tonight and not look at the cute stuff in the store!

Count me in! I'm going to be pretty radical...
Our LSS has a scrapbook yard sale four times per year in which you get store credit for the items you sell. I participated last year once and plan to add to my store credit with their next sale at the end of the month. This allows me to purchase supplies AND feed my habit. My two goals are as follows:
1. Only spend money this year on adhesive, blade refills, Cricut mats, etc. In other words the necessary evils that aren't the "fun stuff"
2. Spend NO MONEY AT ALL WHATSOEVER on embellishments, paper, etc. Only use store credit. If the store credit is gone, then so is my opportunity to get new stuff!
We'll see how it goes. I'm going to have to spread my credit out over the year so I don't go crazy. :upsidedow

I'd love and need to be in on the "ban" wagon so add me to the list!
My plan:
1. To buy adhesives, mats...the non-fun must-haves but only when they're on sale or I have a coupon.
2. Free days - I haven't decided on that but I will say my birthday for now.
3. To buy 4 cricut carts this year
4. Swaps - a recipe or card swap.
I think that's it for now and I will add the signature items later.

I went to a crop at a lss last night. I did pretty good. I had gift cards so I spent no money of my own. I didn't buy one piece of cute paper or embelishments! I brought patterened paper with me that I would use and bought a few sheets of plain cardstock I neeed for the pages I was doing and I sheet of stickers for the pages. I also needed a new white pen and slick writer for transparancies. I did buy a birthday stamp set that wasn't absolutely necessary, but I am always looking for birthday words when I stamp cards and hada 30%off 1 item, so I decided I could justify it. We can justify anything, right:rotfl:

I spent 89.00 at LSS today but it was for the extra large we r memory keeper eyelets in each color they had because I love them and I can not find a deal on them anywhere.......this will help me use up my paper stash and complete swaps, etc. It will take me a while to use them.
Anyway....
This year I plan to:
1. Place pics in memorial album.
2. Scrap 2008 DIS album first. Then do 2007. Going backwards makes sense somehow to me.
3. I plan on a swap a month.
4. I plan to finish organizing craft area.
5. Work on Christmas album.
My free spending days.
- One in each quarter - not sure exactly what day.
I will need
- refills for ATG gun and they are cheap through framing supplies
- print pics
- Sailor glue pens
what am I forgetting

We went to a nearby mall to exchange a Christmas gift (Aeropostale's sizes are a bit off for some reason). This is my mall with Archiver's. We did the exchange, then took the kids to Cabella's (next door to Archiver's) to see the fish. I looked in my purse for the January coupon. "Free Hot Spot Item With Any Purchase". Usually, I'd go in and get a $1.99 hot spot item, then get the free one. I didn't even do that. I put the coupon back in my purse. Maybe I missed a good deal on something ($2 isn't really a lot). But I can't think of anything in particular that I need right now. I don't need what I don't need. DH commented that I stayed on the wagon. I think it really surprised him that I didn't even go in the store.
