View Full Version : Get away weeks, should I be panicking and book it?- UPDATE

Well, the week I need is down to only ONE condo left!

I am going the week of January 13th-21st.

There were several left even yesterday.

I wanted Orbit One but it is gone.

Only Florida Vacation Villas is left.

Should I hope for some more to open up next week or should I book????

Don't really know how the supply works.

Thanks,

Dawn

I don't know either and we just bought one of the last getaway weeks yesterday. Since it is already paid for, it would see to me that if you are sure of your week, and you see the size you need in a propery you want, it would be best to book it. But I'm not really sure either and will need to find out. Is it possible that other or more desirable properties will show up? Skyauction experts please give us your ideas. TIA Grammy

My concern is the review I read on TripAdvisor....doesn't sound like a great place!

orbit one is fairly nice.

with skyauction it is hard to tell.

can you go some other time next year?

also looks like you are looking for a 2-bedroom - those definitely go fast.

Check tonight, very late, like around 11 pm or a little later. I believe they still take calls up until midnight?
Very late on Friday evenings they often add some inventory, and then again overnight on Saturday night. If you don't find anything tonight, get up early Sunday morning and be on the phone at 9:30 am if you see something you like that wasn't there prior.

During the week it's hit or miss when (or if) things will show up. One thing to be sure about with RCI, don't ever get used to the way they do things, because they change constantly. Inventory will be there one minute, then gone the next, yet still available thru other avenues. It's weird but I guess they have their reasons. :confused3

Well, we have 5, so I am afraid that even though we wouldn't mind a one bedroom, I am afraid they will not allow us to stay there.

We are going during homeschool days and our tickets are only good for 3 weeks. DH already asked for a particular week off and so I am not sure he could change it.

Dawn, I have my fingers crossed that some new places show up tonight or tomorrow night for you and your family. Homeschool days sound great! Do you happen to know if they do this every year and if so when it might be next year. DD and DSIL are home schooling DGKs and this would be very interesting for them. Pixie dust for some more inventory. Grammy

P.S. Thanks to all the disers who are really a help with these issues. If it wasn't for the infor and knowledge you all share I probably wouldn't even try anything than a very traditional (ie probably expensive) trip. Happy New Year to all on the DIS! Grammy

I just checked my agent site and the week of Jan. 13-20 is available in a 2 bedroom for Orbit One villas. It's not on Getawayweeks.com.....yet. I would expect it to come up tonight or over the weekend, so I think you have a really good shot at getting this property.
I've sent a few clients there in the past, it is basically clean and spacious, nothing overly fancy but much better than some properties and very close to Disney too.

I hope it works out for you! ;)

Thank you! I will give it through the weekend then.

Does Orbit always do Sun-Sun or do they sometimes do Sat-Sat?

I am trying to decide if I want a sub for 2 weeks in the SS class I teach. I just started so I hate to be gone 2 Sundays, but I think it would be ok if I do.

Hey there.

My understanding is that HS days are typically in Sept. but this year is the first time they have added January, so no way to tell if they will do Sept, Jan or both next year.

Such a reasonable price too!

They have Sat. and Sun. check in for RCI weeks, but right now 13-20 is the only thing showing.

FYI this property can be rented by the night as well (not thru Getawayweeks but other avenues).

Yes, I saw that and I may end up just calling and booking a couple of extra nights, even though a 2 night stay is more than I paid for an entire week through SkyAuction!!!!!

But I really want those extra days.

I think our plan right now is to leave early Friday, Jan. 11th and then stay until either Sat or Sunday of the next week. I will find out tomorrow at church how needed I am! If it looks good, I will plan to stay through Sunday of the following week and that will be 2 added nights.

Crossing my fingers for you and a good place:goodvibes
It's hard, it would be really crappy if you booked some place you didn't want and then the place you wanted came up, then again, it's so close, it would be even crappier if you didn't get any place at all:sick:

I am sure I will get something. I worry when I read reviews on Trip Advisor sometimes! I have had bad places too and it stinks.

We have always used Vacation Village through SkyAution, but they no longer use SkyAuction, so we need to find a new place!

We also have a 3rd child now (as of Sept of last year), so a family of 5 is harder to place than a family of 4. This is new too for us as we haven't gone anywhere since the adoption (well, we went to Gatlinburg this past summer but they let us have a one bedroom anyway.)

I know what you mean as we're a family of 5 also. I love trip advisor, I don't know what I did without it!

Anytime I go anywhere I have to look up the city and start with the hotel rated number 1 to try to find a good rate and place to stay.

That is what I did for this trip coming up and I couldn't believe I got the number 1 rated place in Kissimmee!!!

Some of those condos I have looked at on TA really do look pretty yucky.
I know you will find the perfect place, there were a lot of good tips here on this thread you started:)

Good Luck! I know you will find something that will work well for your growing family. Let us know how you make out. We had three kids and the youngest always ended up in a "mattress" on the floor made out of extra bedding. That was way before aerobeds! Maybe because your little one is only three they would make an exception for a sleeps four unit. Grammy

Yeah, I know that when I asked Vacation Village they said as long as the 3rd child is under 12 they really didn't care if we had 5 in a one bedroom. I think that if a good one bdrm comes up, I may just phone the place and ask. Some of them say that the occupancy max is strictly enforced, but that may be more for college kids and such who are trying to get 10 students in a one bedroom rather than for families with a little kid.

Never hurts to ask.

Let me know how things turn out -- I purchased the Sky Auction & I have a family of 5.

Now I am getting nervous if we'll be able to use it.

DawnM

Oh, I will be able to use it, I may just not get the place of my choice. There are currently 4 places available with 2 bedrooms and I may have to just take one of those.

If you go off-season especially, it shouldn't be a large probelm.

We got Orbit One!!!! I have been putting off booking, as it didn't show up last weekend and I really wanted to get it. Today was the LAST DAY I was willing to wait for and had a 2nd choice picked just in case.

It showed up today! So, I snatched it.

Looking forward to our stay starting this Friday!!!

Hi Dawn,

I was wandering how you liked your stay at Orbit One? It is one of the places we are considering for our trip in Dec. 08 and were hoping to get more info on it.

Thanks!

Also would be interested in your opinion of Orbit One. I thought I read that if you are staying there you can use the pools at Liki Tiki Village. Anybody know if that is so? We still have our getawayweek to use. TIA Grammy

We stayed at Orbit One in Dec/06. It is a nice resort (my childrens' favourite, actually) and is very clean. It wouldn't be our first choice as our hearts belong to Cypress Point Grand Villas (but have never been able to get it on skyauction again!). The location is very convenient to the parks. You can use the pools at Liki Tiki but I believe the cost is $5. per car load. We didn't take advantage of the opportunity so I don't know what the waterpark is like.

We had planned on staying at Cypress Point Grand Villas (booking through HotelKingdom) until we discovered skyauction a couple of weeks ago. We won two weeks (surf and turf) and will be going in Dec. 08. It would have been great to get Cypress Point through Sky Auction, but I glad to hear that Orbit One is a good place.

Thanks for the info!

I booked my father into an Orbit One exchange via RCI this past February. He really liked it, but he's also used to staying in hotel rooms/suites, so take his enthusiasm with a grain of salt.

My sense from talking to him is that it is a smaller resort, with not much going on activities-wise, but the units themselves are in relatively good repair, and clean. The kids enjoyed the pool.
