Apologies to Doc and the other moderators but I just had to share this good news with my fellow DVC members.

Friday March 1 the movie "We Were Soldiers" opens nationwide starring Mel Gibson, who will play the role of my brother LT. Gen Hal Moore(ret) in a true story regard to Vietnam. They were at the White House last night for a special showing for George and Laura. The movie is made from my brother's book, We Were Soldiers Once-and Young.

Sorry about that Doc...but I had to share the news.

You should be so proud of your brother. I saw a beautiful piece on TV, an interview with Mel Gibson speaking extensively about your brother. What a hero! Judy

WOW..WOW..WOW...i HAVE READ THE BOOK AT LEAST 6 TIMES, AND CONSIDER IT TO BE ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES. IT WAS MY PLEASURE TO TO READ ABOUT THAT MOMENT IN YOUR BROTHERS LIFE, AND HONESTLY TAKEN MANY LESSONS ON EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP FROM IT....SO JUST THOUGHT I WOULD LET YOU KNOW I HAVE GREAT ADMIRATION FOR THE MEN WHO WENT INTO THAT VALLEY, BOTH ON THE GROUND IN THE AIR

Congratulations KYBill to you and your brother! Is your brother from KY too? I had noticed in the previews that the main character's family had a southern accent. I will have to check out the movie now, and see if Mel can pull off the KY accent! LOL!

KyBill--We just wanted to let you know that we saw We Were Soldiers this afternoon and it's a great movie. We also saw your brother interviewed on Extra tonight. I'm sure that fellow DVC members would love to hear what you, your brother and your families thought about Mel Gibson and the rest of the cast's performances. The soundtrack is awesome---probably some of the best chosen music we have ever heard for a movie. Your brother is a hero.

Congratulations to you and your family and especially your brother! I wrote down the title of the book and I am going to the library tomorrow morning! I always like to read the book before I see the movie and see how true to form the movie is from the book.

Hi KyBill

Last night on British television, Mel Gibson was interviewed about a number of things including his role in We Were Soldiers. Thought I'd let you know that "Mel" spoke very highly of your brother LT. Gen Hal Moore and how he'd spent many hours researching the film by speaking with your brother. He seems like a remarkable man - I'm sure you're very proud. The film hasn't been released yet in the UK, but as we're off to the 'States next weekend we hope to catch it when we're there.

Mel spoke of the initial viewing of the film where your brother and other ex-servicemen were present. He was apprehensive of how the film was received and was so terribly concerned that your brother would think he'd done a good job. In his nervousness he nipped off to the mensroom to avoid the initial reaction. Unfortunately for him, your brother walked in as Mel was about to leave. Mel anxiously reached out his hand to shake hands with LT Gen Moore and your brother simply said in a soldier's voice - "I hope you washed your hands son." A funny story, I thought.

Thanks again for all your replies. We saw the movie March 1 with my other brother and sister. We also thought it was very good, but of course we are biased. I am impressed with the very positive reviews it has gotten. I talked to my brother Hal the next day about 30 minutes on the phone from NY. He said the movie was pretty accurate , espesially the battle scenes. He was a technical advisor and wanted them to get it right. He had some interesting things to say about being at the White House for a private screening with the Bush'es and also about the Hollywood Premiere last week.

I saw your brother being interviewed on CNN a day or two ago. He was very articulate and made an excellent impression in that interview. He obviously comes from good stock since HIS brother had the good judgement to become a DVC member! ;)

LOL, Travelbug. Yea he is articulate. West Point Grad, MA from Harvard. We are proud of him. But I'm the only one in the family to belong to DVC.
