To make the most out of our final day, we're thinking of going to WDW before catching a late flight out of MCO. If we have to be off the boat at 8:30 a.m. anyway, might as well go to the MK!

It seems like our best ground transfer option is to get a Disney bus transfer from MCO to Port Canaveral (so that we get to see the video and can just get on the bus and go) coming in, and then to rent a car for the return (to drive to WDW, hold our luggage for the day, then drive from WDW to MCO for the flight home).

The Port Canaveral homepage lists several car rental agencies, but Avis, so far, is the only one I've found with an actual Cape Canaveral location listed.

What are the closest car rental agencies to port?
How will we go to pick up the car? Are there shuttles available from the docks?

Thanks!

We are planning on doing the same. I already booked a car through National Car Rental in Cocoa Beach (5 or 6 miles away) and I decided to stay with them because they do not charge a one way rental fee. Be careful about that. I plan on just taking a taxi to Cocoa Beach to pick up the car. It's probably a 15 minute ride. Here is a list of car rental agencies in Port Canaveral. I found this information at www.portcanaveral.org.
good luck

Avis is the closest rental location to the Port. Budget is not that much further away. Both AVIS and Budget have shuttle buses that will pick you up at the port when you disembark.

Avis also has pretty good prices as they like to have the cars returned to the airport, and there is no airport taxes with the rental. Ours for three days after the cruise was almost half of the four days before.
