DH and I are looking forward to spending a few days at VB before WDW -- gotta rest up for the parks!!

We're curious about the beach -- are there beach chairs and umbrellas available to rent? Also, how far can you walk on the beach -- just on Disney's portion or is there public access? Thanks for your help ...

Yes, there are beach chairs and umbrellas available to rent. There are cabanas available as well.

You can walk quite a distance on the beach. There is a public beach to the North. We walked from the VB Boardwalk to the stairway leading to a small picnic area and parking area for the public beach. This beach has a lifeguard during certain times of the day. We didn't go very far to the South - my niece walked to a stairway which turned out to lead to a walkway for private access to the beach. The gate at the street end of the walkway was locked and she had to return to the beach and the VB Boardwalk to get back.

Even though we were there over President's Day weekend and the resort seemed to be full, the beach was very uncrowded. Had it to all ourselves several times.

Enjoy your trip!

Theoretically, you could keep walking in either direction. None of the beaches have restricted access once you are walking along the water.

I rented them. I can't remember exactly but last summer I rented and umbrela and two chairs and I blieve it was about $20 per day. $9 or $10 for the umbrella and $4-5 per chair. Not cheap but great if you're looking for the pampered vacation. The company that rents the equipment is not DVC and a tip is also customary.

Silly question but here goes, why would a tip be "customary" for renting a beach chair or beach umbrella???

Well you have two very nice young rental people standing out in the hot sun all day setting up beach chairs and collecting them. I don't know what they get paid but the rental slip leaves a space for a tip. Maybe I'm a softie but I don't think the staff that rented me the chairs and umbrella are independantly wealthy and I am used to tipping staff for good service. On the other hand Disney could certainly provide people with chairs and umbrellas for what we pay. DVC doesn't. These people are earning a living in a service industry. Just my feelings.

I find that the chair and umbrella renting is very expensive, it's not that I try to pinch on vacation, but when at Vero I am always on the beach!!! If you have a car right up the street over the intercoastal to Route 1 make a right a big Walmart on the left...
You can get a beach chair for about $7.00 I purchase and if I choose not to take it home to Jersey it is a great donation to the incoming DVCer!!! You are still ahead of the game and not preasured to giveing up your chair in the early evening when the beach is the greatest!! Have a ball!!
