I was so excited to finally see some activity on this thread. Sometimes I think we are going to have the ship to ourselves. :lmao:
I wish we were going to be cruising together, but I'm afraid that isn't the case. We are on the 12/24 to 12/28 cruise.
You need to go to the cruise meets general board, and post your cruise dates and info. Come back to this board and post the link to your thread.
IrishCowboy will then add the link to the 2008 cruise meets list so others on you cruise will be able to find you. Good luck meeting up with folks on your cruise. I'm sorry we won't be sailing together. May your family have a Wonderful first Disney cruise.:thumbsup2

Hi brendalee59!
We are travelling our first Disney cruise December 24-28 looking for some other dis'ers going too! It will be dh and I and our three kids 14, 12 and 6!
We finally have some company!:cheer2: Welcome dragn'fly. You are going to love it. You never forget your first cruise. It is just going to be the four of us on this cruise. DD's ex is refusing to allow us to take the grandkids out of the country. We orginally decided to cancel the whole thing, and lose a rather large suite deposit. However, after much thought, and gentle support from our DU agent, we decided to continue with the four of us. So it will be my DH, myself, and our 16 yr old (at sail time)boy/girl twins.
I'm looking forward to getting to know another Dis'ser as well.

I'm finally getting excited again. It's going to be nice to have someone to visit with while we wait.
I booked our flights this evening. That made it seem more real. Now we can't back out.

Yup us too! We just booked our flights last week! We got a pretty good price! We are flying into Tampa for a few days because it was cheaper than Orlando and then we are staying at our home resort for a couple days before we cruise. I wonder what Christmas day is like on a Disney Cruise?:goodvibes

I can tell you what it was like 8 years ago:rotfl2: Maybe not. As I remember it we were just walking around with our mouths open at everything going on around us. I do remember Christmas day is a sea day. The ship is beautiful with all the Christmas decorations up. On Christmas morning, Santa visited the ship with a gift for every child. We brought the twins a couple small gifts just so it would feel like Christmas. I know they have added alot of other things since then. For example, the tree and decorations at Castaway Cay. I have also heard/read someplace that they have caroling onboard.
Our airfare wasn't exactly a good price. I don't think there is such a thing over the holidays. But it is a nonstop flight out of Dallas Tx,and we hopefully won't have to worry about getting snowed in, or otherwise delayed .

That will be us on Christmas morning. :jumping1: It looks like Christmas day was to be in Nassau. I wonder if they switch it and make it like a sea day like you said since the tour operators have the day off?
Flights were averaging about 5500.00cad for our dates. We were able to get a flight with United with a connection in Denver to Tampa for 2360.00cad which is 50%cheaper. We purposely avoided connecting in Toronto because that is where all the weather problems seem to happen. We are flying from Calgary. I have heard not so great things about United but am willing to put up with no entertainment etc for the price. We bring gameboys and dvd player for the kids anyways:goodvibes

They switched when we were there. I don't know if they do it every year. The capt. said it was because it is Junkanoo in Nassau,as well as Christmas, and alot of the shops would be closed. They usually have the sea day after Castaway Cay. It just means we will have to pack the day before CC cause I know we will be to tired to bother with it CC day.Besides, that is when they have fireworks.
You got a great price! We paid 2,760 on American Airlines. But as I said it is nonstop. Disney air was slightly cheaper, but I didn't want to take the risk of getting snowed in up north. When I researched, it seemed everything going out of Oklahoma City connected in either Chicago, D.C. or Detroit. Non of which I wanted to chance over the holidays, and in winter.:scared1:

I JUST made reservations for our first cruise on this particular sailing!! First cruise, first DVC reservation. Our family of 4 will be attending. One 16 year old DD, one 11 year old DS at the time of sailing. Perhaps we should have them meet. I am planning on having DS 10 at the Oceaneer Club/Lab whatever, and DD 16 of COURSE will ALWAYS be at Aloft and I am sure she will want to do excursions with the teen group.
I am SOOOO excited I can't stand it. :cool1:

First of all let me welcome you to our sailing and your first cruise!:cheer2: It's always nice to see a new family sign on.:thumbsup2 Gee, I was hoping maybe we would have another family flying with us. You are one brave set of parents. Our two would be left at a mile marker if we had to drive that far:rotfl2: One is ADHD,and the other is......well.....a teenage girl:scared1:
Actually, we had considered driving. We are staying at the Poly for 4 days prior to the cruise, so DH would have had to take more days off work, plus, the twins have mid terms and wouldn't be able to leave early. I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys.

Sounds like my family.....DS is ADHD and the other a strawberry blonde teenage girl. That is so hilarious. :lmao: The incentive was that she gets to help drive...but not at night. DS likes to see the country and thought he would get to see more when we flew to WDW two months ago. Alas, we didn't. We have driven to northern Arkansas which was 10 hours so we have a warm-up. We will be staying at the world pre-cruise as well. Don't know where yet...either Boardwalk, Beach Club, Old Key West, something. We wanted to spend some extra time at Epcot because we didn't get to do much. And LOVE the restaurants.
We could change our mind and fly. What line are you flying on?

We have an early flight on American Airlines. Our thinking is to get to WDW early enough to get a half day in at one of the parks. Now I'm thinking we are going to be wiped out:rotfl2: That wasn't our only reason for choosing an early flight( 6:35 am) We haven't ever flown out of DFW,and aren't sure how bad security lines will be. Course now, I imagine us to be stumbling out of bed at 3:00 am so we don't get held up and miss our flight:scared1:
Are you guys thinking about adding the DDP? I can't decide if it will work for us or not:confused3

When we went in January, we too had an early flight 6:20. We left home around 4:30 and got there around 5 or so. There were more people there than I had expected and we were in the new terminal. It took a while, perhaps 30 minutes to get through security. We walked to the gate, grabbed breakfast at one of the few options open that early, and waited another 5-10 minutes before our group boarded. We were at the back of the plane, so our group was one of the first to board. We were able to do a half day at Hollywood Studios before heading to the luau at the early seating. As for being wiped out...it will happen regardless. That's what coming home is for - catching up on the zzz's. We were all out every night until at least 11 pm or midnight. And we slept great!!
We had the Deluxe DDP last time and stayed at Caribbean Beach. One of the main reasons I did the deluxe was because we did the luau at the Poly and it cost 2 credits. The show was great as was the bread and salad, but the rest of the food was alright. It was going to really limit us for the remainder of our meals. We are DVC members as of February and I am still contemplating whether or not we will do the basic DDP and we stay in a studio or not do it at all and we stay in a 1 bedroom with a kitchen. DH and I want to eat at one of the French restaurants in Epcot and I don't think they are on the plan. Fewer people are on it than they were before. And gratuity is not included like in previous years and appetizer not included in the basic but it is on the deluxe.
It's not as great of a deal as it was before I think. But, I kept receipts and wrote down what it would have cost if we had paid cash. And my kids ordered lobster! Imagine that at Disney price. I think the basic plan at 39.99 pp is a better deal than the deluxe 69.99 pp above 10 years old (I may be off on the prices).

We are staying at the airport Hyatt on the sleep and park pkg. Our plan is to catch the shuttle to the terminal by 4:00 am. This is the only part of our trip that concerns me. Had we flown out of OKC, I know which concourse each airline uses, and I know how long it takes to get through security. The only thing I know about DFW, is that there is no set concourse for any given airline. AA seems to use all terminals. We are hoping to get through security and be at the gate by 5:30.
We're leaning toward not using the dining plan. We pretty much wing it,and eat breakfast, dinner, and maybe a snack. I think if we limit our TS meals to Kona Cafe for breakfast each morning, then do CS for dinner, we should be ok. We stayed at CBR on our first visit to WDW when the twins were 8. We loved it. The reasoning behind getting the Poly was because our DD had 5 in her family, and we really wanted the twins to have their own beds. Now we are excited to stay there.

Hello all.
It's a beautiful spring day here. The birds are singing, the sun is shining, there is a good stiff breeze(ok wind) and I have all my windows open to air out the house. Course I'll have to close them and run the ac for a few minutes before DS gets home from school. He has super bad allergies, and takes shots every week to try and keep them under control.
Ok, Now I'm in spring cleaning mode. Gotta get busy:laundy: Catch ya'll later!

Hello, hello, hello! We will be on the Wonder December 24-28! Two kids, both a month shy of 6 and 2 when we cruise. It will be our second DCL cruise! A little worried as we had a Cat 5 on the 1st and decided to book a Cat 9 this time to save a little XMas cash. Hoping that we don't miss the balcony so much...
Also staying at WDW for four nights first, this time at the military resort. Used two frequent flyer tickets and the baby will be free on lap (for the last time), so only had to purchase one plane ticket.
So... so far this budget vacation is... on budget. :woohoo: Even if it is WDW and DCL at XMas! :santa:

I think we might be neighbors. We are located between the OKC and Dallas airports as well. At least for the time being. We'll be moved to another state by the time we actually fly.
I just pulled up my reservation (checking if I'd been moved to main dining...booked Feb 8 and still second seating was my only choice). The itinerary has us going to Nassau on Xmas, day at sea on the 26th and Castaway Cay on the 27th. It will be interesing so see if they switch. Would you try to catch Junkaroo if we actually did end up there for Christmas? Maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The Magic will be docked at CC on the 26th and the 26th is Boxing Day in the Bahamas, so that may explain why they have put a day at sea for the Wonder between two island stops that are truly so close together.
I wait with baited breath DCL. What will you do??? :confused3 Make sure I know before I get my massages and such all lined up!

We live in Lawton Ok. Where do you guys live? Where are you moving to? My DH is a truck driver for United Van Lines. Most of his moves are military. With the war in Iraq the moving industry has taken a hard hit.:sad2:
As for Junkanoo. We missed it on our last Disney cruise.(2000) The captain made an announcement after we had set sail, that we would be having our sea day on Christmas Day. His reason being that with Junkanoo, all the shops and resturants would be closed due to the Bahamian holiday. We did Nassau on the 26th, CC on the 27th, Port Can. 28th. My guess is that they would make the same call. Course that is up to the captain.
The only thing we know for sure we want to do in Nassau is get some cracked conch. We'll just wing it. Maybe do the walking tour. I know we will be on a tight budget onboard. We splurged on a midship cat 3. That is the only thing that kept us from cancelling this cruise when we found out the grandkids wouldn't be able to go. Still can't decide if we want to do the DDP in WDW. We're staying at the Poly. Isn't that close to SOG? It's alot harder to plan this vacation with the twins being 16 as opposed to planning it for the grandchildren in mind(7,8,10)

We are at Fort Sill now but move to Fort Leavenworth this summer. We are flying out of Kansas City. Last vacation in January was our budget buster. I keep wondering if I should call back and get us a Cat 5 or Cat 6 so we can have a balcony, but hubby points out that the price difference will pay for our shore excursions and my spa treatments. Can't live without those.
Shades of Green is very close to the Poly, we walked there to catch the monorail back in 2002. We are on the Shades of Green Dining Plan because it is part of a Welcome Home package for guys returning from Iraq. We will probably only use it for breakfast (b/c you actually have to eat at SOG), but even at that it about pays for itself.

I thought I would double check with my DU agent to see what the special itinerary she mentioned was. This is her reply.
Hi Brenda,
The Christmas sailing is a special itinerary sailing in the fact that it's a 4-night cruise leaving on a Wednesday, usually 4-days leave on Sunday, and then 3 night's sail on Thursday. DCL re-arranged the itineraries over Christmas & New Years so that ships were not embarking on Christmas Day and/or New Year's Day. The itinerary could still be adjusted at the Captain's discretion, but at his time, the scheduled itinerary is as stated online.
I understand your concern about Nassau on Christmas Day. Feel free to call DCL to voice your concerns. Hope that helps.
What do you guys think? From what I remember of Junkanoo, it is a pretty wild event. Kinda like our Mardi Gras.

03-31-2008, 01:53 PM
Apparently Junkanoo starts Boxing day morning. This is what I found
What are the dates of the Junkanoo Parades?
The major Junkanoo parades take place twice a year, from about 2:00 a.m. until about 9:00 a.m. on Boxing Day (December 26) and New Year’s Day (January 1).
Where is Junkanoo held?
Most of the major Bahamian islands celebrate Junkanoo, with the largest and most popular major parades occurring in downtown Nassau, New Providence, where revelers “rush” around several blocks on Bay Street and Shirley Street.
How is the weather during this event and what should I wear?
The temperatures for Junkanoo typically range between the mid 60°’s to the mid 70°’s Fahrenheit. Though rain is always a possibility it is unlikely between November and April. Casual and comfortable sporting wear is appropriate.
Can I watch Junkanoo without purchasing a ticket?
Yes, standing room is available at the parade. For your own comfort and the best view however, it is recommended to obtain seating. Up to 50,000 spectators attend the Junkanoo parades and standing room is limited.
How can I purchase Junkanoo tickets?
Junkanoo tickets normally go on sale a few weeks before the parade and can be purchased online at www.tajiz.com or by calling the international toll free line 1(877) THE-RUSH. Tickets can also be purchased locally by calling (242) 324-1714 or at any authorized local Tajiz distribution outlets.
Can Junkanoo tickets be purchased at the parade?
Junkanoo tickets will be available for sale at the parade, however it is advised that tickets be purchased in advance as sales are based on seating availability and tickets traditionally sell-out very quickly.
Will I be able to see the Junkanoo parade and take good pictures if I am seated?
Yes, while being seated you will be able to see the Junkanoo parade and take good pictures. Stadium-style bleacher seating is strategically implemented throughout the parade route to provide unobstructed views.
Will the environment be safe and is it safe to wear my jewelry and carry bags?
Yes, the environment at the Junkanoo parades is safe. Security is strongly enforced at the parades by uniformed and plain-clothed officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Are there any additional charges for Junkanoo at the Parade?
No. There are no additional charges to watch the Junkanoo parade. There are some additional considerations such as transportation, food and souvenirs costs, which are all optional.
If I oversleep and don’t get to see the parade, do I get a refund?
All ticket sales are final, except in the occurrence of a cancellation or the postponement of the Junkanoo parade.
If I arrive at the parade on Bay Street at 4:00am how do I locate my seat?
Bleacher Marshals responsible for visitors with assigned seats-no matter what time you arrive (i.e. 8:30AM) the ushers will still be there.
Can I carry my video camera and record, and/or take photos of the Junkanoo parade?
Yes cameras and camcorders are permissible to take pictures and record the parade.
Would it be advisable to bring my baby or young child?
Yes. Despite the start time, Junkanoo is a family event. Thousands of children of all ages attend and even participate in the parades.
Do I have to be there as soon as the parade starts and would I enjoy the parade if I arrive late and leave early (i.e. 3a.m to 6a.m)?
The time of attendance is optional to everyone. It will be the seemed great experience at whichever time.
Are there restrooms available?
There will be portables available at anytime.
Is it a hassle getting there?
Transportation is not a hassle. Taxi’s are at hand and schedule times for public bus service for you and/or family.
Are there food vendors and is the water safe to drink?
There are a number of food vendors located on Bay and Shirley Street that serve great food. Also, serving all kinds of beverages including water that is absolutely clean and safe.

Honestly I would rather have a double dip at CC than do Nassau. Hello to the new people who have joined
What dinner seating is everyone doing?
We are doing the late one because of the time diffference for us. The late one is when we usually eat our dinner on our time.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting this. That explains why the streets were so dead when we were there. People were sleeping...LOL
We were there on the 26th,and you could tell the parade was the night before..or early am. The streets were littered, and they were taking down the bleachers.

We are doing the late one because of the time diffference for us. The late one is when we usually eat our dinner on our time.
I would prefer a double dip too, but that won't be an option. I would be happy with spending Christmas day at sea.
We have 1st seating, but am going to try to talk DH into letting us change to second. I hate rushing to get ready for dinner. DH likes to eat early, even at home. Drives me crazy:rotfl2:

Brendalee-
It would definately be a shame to have all that balcony space and not do a little entertaining, I would think. :goodvibes
If you decide to switch to late, let me know so I can call in and try to get your spots. We had late seating in January by choice, which has its merits, but since the baby was in the nursery and had only 12 hours of care allotted for the whole trip, we never had the chance to just get out and boogie after dinner. Hoping to have a boogie night or two this time.

Hey Brendalee and Adrianna!
I haven't been on here in AGES! Work and my son just crossing over to boy scouts has kept me busy!
Adrianna, welcome to the party. My husband was in the army as well, before we met though. If you haven't been to Leavenworth, he says it is nicer than Sill. Perhaps they could talk shop.
We have the late seating. From all the stuff on the boards, I found that it was better to have this seating and spend more time at port, not having to rush back. Hopefully we won't miss too much activities on board at that time.....
Brendalee - definitely too much balcony for four people. We haven't told our kids and will keep it a surprise. We told them we would go back to WDW this winter but not as big a trip as last time. They want to visit Universal Studios though but we will stay at WDW since we are DVC owners.
I am sooooo excited! I made the ressie through DVC for this with our extra points due to being new members, last year's points available, etc (don't know if I would ever do it again). I haven't received any info so that I can start booking excursions and stuff online. :scared1: Anyone have an idea when I might get this?

Hi Courtney!
Good to see you in here again. I really want 2nd seating for a couple of reasons. mainly so we don't have to rush every night. We have teenagers. Many families with young children want to feed them and settle them down for the night. I just hope I can convince my DH he won't starve to death if he hasn't eaten by 6:00:rotfl2:
I have no idea how DVC points work, or when you would be able to book excursions. I didn't look into that too closely as we will probably not book any excursions. Nassau we will do the walking tour on our own, and grab a bite to eat. DH and I are craving some cracked conch:thumbsup2 YUM! The kids may want to do the teen thing at CC. If so, it'll be a nice relaxing day at SB for me and DH.Saving my $200 OBC for pictures and shopping Maybe a spa treatment:yay:

Hi Courtney-
We had second seating in January and enjoyed it. Since we were on the Western, there were 4 island stops and we always stayed ashore until the last minute. Our kids were still alert for the show and I always had time to wash the salt out of my hair before dinner. On a seven day or longer cruise we would probably do second seating again for those reasons. We are second for now for this cruise, but hope to switch to first, mostly for the sake of the baby. I think our activities will have a more "onboard" focus this time since we'll be celebrating our family Christmas. Either way, it's the DCL, so you can't go wrong.
As for activities, spa ressies and Palo, you can book them 75 days out if this is your first cruise, 90 days out if you have cruised before or 105 if you are in a suite like Brendalee (is there a smiley-icon for jealous???). It sounds like this is your first, but no worries. I still was able to creativly secure everything I wanted at 8:00 AM at the 75 day mark, not knowing that the reservations opened at midnight EST. I would still try to be on at midnight to be sure, especially if you need to co-book the nursery for anything. If you go to the DCL website and enter you reservation number, there will be an icon for "book shore excursions". If you click this it will give the exact day you are eligible to book, provided that your full payment has been made.
You can also check out the shore excursions available under each "Port of Call" icon and similarily the menu of spa offerings under the "Spa" icon.
Where are you on the ship?
Hope that gives some answers.

Hello Adrianna.
Wasn't it a beautiful day today? I think spring is here to stay:thumbsup2
You know the funny part about having the suite, and being able to book sooner? We probably won't book anythng:rotfl2: Been to Nassau, and so far our only plan is to find a resturant and have some cracked conch. We may do a little shopping,(if the shops are open) We won't do Palo either, and while I may change my mind later, at the moment I doubt I'll do any spa treatments .:confused3 My plan is to sit on that big ol balcony and relax after 4 days of walking at WDW! Hey the way I figure it, We got that huge suite, we are gonna get plenty of use out of it. :lmao:

If I had a suite, I might feel obligated to never leave.
We had the conch fritters at Key West. Not too bad, so we may have to give that cracked conch a try. I love seafood.
We are hoping to try the Palo brunch. In Nassau, I think we'll try to take the kids on one of the dolphin encounters. I plan to parasail at CC, whether the hubby joins me or not! He wants to do a couples cabana massage on CC, but a massage is just not as relaxing when shared-at least for me, so maybe we'll do the couples massage at CC and I'll have another by myself on the ship. So, maybe I am happy that we booked the "bargain basement" of the ship after all. Two massages in four days. That would be a treat! :cloud9:
Hey! I was on the 6:00 KSWO News the other night for the Salvation Army fashion show. Did you see me? I missed the newscast, but am told I looked decent. :)

Exactly...we feel obligated to never leave. :lmao: I forgot about the parasailing. Last I heard CC had cancelled it. DD and I parasailed on South Padre Island a couple years ago and loved it. DH and DS won't go, but we girls sure will.
Sometimes I think I would love to try out the Villa spa pkg. But then I think about all the money we already spent, and back off. We may book a late afternoon massage for Nassau when they are a little cheaper. I know once I'm done, all I'm gonna want to do is melt into a lounge chair for the duration.
I'm hoping the twins will want to do the teen thing on CC so DH and I can relax at SB. It's not as easy to drop them off at 16 as it was at 8. They tend to kick up more of a fuss now:confused3
Gosh girl, I probably did see it, (unless it was Friday night) but at my age I wouldn't remember it anyway:upsidedow But I'm sure you looked better than decent:thumbsup2

Brendalee and Adrianna-
Gosh! Sorry I have been gone for just over a week and you guys have been going on and on!! I am certainly jealous of the suite. It is our first cruise....ever! For any of us. Usually DH has been everywhere that I haven't been since he was military and travelled a lot with his dad, but he has never done a cruise. Our whole family even 11 year old DS are seafood lovers but we have never experienced conch. I can imagine what the fritters are like, but what is cracked conch?? :confused3
I FINALLY got my confirmation letter in the mail so once I slow down enough I will go to DCL website and get started on the fun, counting down the days til I can do reservations. I think DH and I will do Palo since we never have. Haven't even told him about it. I guess the kids could be on their own and have dinner without us as several people have suggested.
As for Nassau, I am pretty torn about what to do. I first thought Atlantis but saw how expensive it is and to wait so long in a line to go down a slide....it is just a waterpark. I will have to see what else I can arrange.
As for CC, I am definitely putting DD 16 on the excursion. I think she would love it. The kids don't know anything about the trip other than we are going to WDW and Universal. We just went to WDW in January. They were excited to go back but it has been their "dream" to go to Universal so we may bypass the world this time. Tough choice with it being Christmas and all but we could always come back. Don't they start the Christmas stuff at the beginning of November?? The only other thing I could think of is renting some paddleboats or something and getting as close as possible to the Flying Dutchman. The kids are such POTC freaks pirate: , they would absolutely LOVE IT!! :cheer2: Have the twins sign up and they can all go together after we all meet up and finally put faces to names. So exciting!!
I think our 2nd seating choice was the best idea. We usually eat late most of the time anyways due to all the activities we are in.
Anyone ever done the Rainforest Showers accessibility, or whatever it is called, on the boat?
Oh....almost forgot! Adrianna, we are going to be in 7543, midship near the midship elevators. Where are you?? Can't believe I am talking with a celebrity! Are you going to the world first? Where are you staying if you are?
Brendalee, I forgot where you said you are staying....

We are in 2112, down in the basement with a porthole window, just a few rooms up from the aft elevators. According to Passporter it is one of the quieter rooms on deck 2, as many of the staterooms are near engines or under the theater, a nightclub or a restaurant on this floor. We are under the internet cafe, so overhead noise shouldn't be too much of an issue. We were on Deck 7 last time in 7558. It is so close to almost every place that you might want to go to, both up and down that we rarely waited for an elevator and just took the stairs instead. It would get a little noisy at night when the big kids and teens would head back to their staterooms, but I suppose that would be the case on any deck that is all staterooms.
I looked in on the rainforest room while I was in the spa. It looked nice. There are some pics of it on the DCL site. If you are looking for some couples relaxation time you might check out the Couples Exotic Rasul. It is some of the most fun that you and partner can have on the ship IMO.
We are staying at WDW for four nights before the cruise at Shades of Green. It used to be a deluxe Disney resort and was leased from Disney by the Department of Defense as a military recreation center in 1994. We still prefer to stay at a regular Disney resort in the off season but at Christmas, the prices can't be beat. We pay rougly 25% of what a deluxe room costs out in the rest of the "World" during the Holidays. SOG guests enjoy most of all of the privelages that all other WDW Resort patrons do. It's a nice hotel, but it just doesn't have that Disney feel to it.
Tell your husband I love Fort Sill! No place could be better! I am in such a happy little niche here, it will be very hard to leave.

Courtney, Cracked conch is just deep fried conch. Back in the late 90's DH and I stayed a week on Grand Bahama Island. Our waiter told us we had to try it just once. I tend to be reluctant to try new foods, but after a bit I agreed to try it. OMG! It was sooooooo good! I plan of getting some for lunch and dinner while we are in Nassau:yay:
My DD is more socialable than our son. Hopefully the girls will hit it off. I leaned a long time ago never to assume she will want to do anything:rotfl2: Michael is too much like DH. Antisocial sticks in the mud. They prefer to stay in the cabin and watch movies to doing things with people.:confused3
Don't be jealous of the suite. You will have more cash to spend onboard than we will:rotfl: We wouldn't have gotten it, but we thought DD and her family were coming too, and wanted a place we could all spread out. Now they can't go. We should have downsized, but I must admit, the very thought of giving away one of the most coveted cabins on the ship didn't last long:rolleyes1 We are in #8532. We may need ear plugs as I read it is partially under the arcade. Reports say there is more noise from staff moving deck chairs in the morning than the arcade.
Ok, anyone going to watch the new Samantha Brown special at WDW tonight? Got my DVR set. Starts at 8:00 central time.

We stayed at the AKL in Jan. I had booked a 1 bedroom value villa specifically witht the intent of checking the new DVC resort out. Somehow our reservation got lost between Disney central booking and the actual hotel, our room had been given away, so we were given a two bedroom suite in the regular hotel. A very nice upgrade I must say, although I never did get to check out one of those new Jambo rooms.

All cruise lines excursions are overpriced. But this one because in order to have access to the water park, you have to purchase a day room at the hotel. There should be all kinds of info about this on the general board. We won't do it. We will go on our own to the aquarium. Maybe walk around and have a look at the property before heading back to town and the ship.

Before our time. Hubby wasn't even commissioned until 1996. My, how the world has changed since 1996. We were at Ft Benning when the planes flew into the WTC. We used to think a six month peacekeeping mission was tough stuff. Three combat deployments later... It just makes the time together that much sweeter. :goodvibes

Yeah, I think those rooms are under the Galley. Some people are not troubled by the overhead noise, though.
Here's how paranoid I am about overhead noise (and remember I am traveling with a baby). I got out a map of deck two and colored all of the rooms that PassPorter said were noisy pink, then colored all the rooms that only slept 3 green. Of the rooms left uncolored, only 4 were in a location that I was willing to be in and three of those had already been booked. This is how I ended up with 2112.
I realize that I have just revealed entirely too much about my detail oriented, type A, vacation planner personality. :headache: I give myself a headache.

Sounds like me....People at work are freaked out and shocked that I am already talking about what is available for us to do because it is 8 months away. And, yes, my how the world has changed. I still remember 9/11 and always will and exactly what happened that day. I worked in a hospital that was a mile down the road from Dallas' World Trade Center building and my dad told me not to go to work. Yeah right. A nurse not going to work when the nation is being attacked....Kinda like the military....not a day off.
Will definitely check out the Rasul link you mentioned. I read about it in Passporter (boy do I love those guys...I need to start my own version and make MILLIONS and have free vacations). I was reading the description and got to the mud part and my husband perked up immediately. Also told him about the secret deck on 7 aft and he said how secret is it?? Good morning and TGIF everyone! Cloudy, dreary day here this morning. No rain, just yucky looking.
Courtney, did you guys get any of those nasty storms earlier this week? It looked pretty bad in your area. Thankfully, for us, they stayed south of the Red River.
I'm waiting on my Dreams agent to get back to me. I emailed her two weeks ago about cancelling our oldest DD's reservation, and refunding the deposit. Haven't heard from her, which is odd. Usually if she is away, I get an email telling me she is away. I sent her another yesterday. I sure hope all is well with her. It isn't like her not to get back to me.:sad1:
Well, I just wanted to check in before I started my housework. Now I'm off before I get lazy and park my backside infront of the computer all day:scared1: I'll try to check back in this afternoon. Now Mrs. Adrianna, where did you get off to?

I can't believe how much Lindsey looks like Valerie! But there must be like 10 years between them, right? I would say those smiles were the result of some pricey orthodontics, but the smile is all yours, so maybe just natural beauty. FE's sound like a lot of fun. Especially on a Christmas Cruise. Especially since it seems that our four families will have the run of the boat. We'll probably get more joiners as we get closer to the cruise.
Our little boys will have to meet. It would be good for him to have a buddy in the Club. Mine turns 6 in January. Love the pic. I really miss the snow. There is 12 years difference between Valerie and the twins. And yes, Lindsey's smile is the result of pricey orthodontics. Valerie and Michael's are all natural. The only two of the five kids that didn't need braces.

One problem....I don't sew. I can suture any of you up (operating room RN surgical assistant) and cross stitch, but nothing else. Sounds like a great idea though.

Well as far as I understand you hang them by your door on the metal fish. They have pockets on them usually 3-4. Every day you exchange small items with whoever is on your cruise/thread and pop them into the pouches as a surprise. Kind of like a Secret Santa thing. Each day when you come back to your cabin you will find something new in your extender. Some examples are magnets, pins, stuff local to your area, recipies, postcards just little things. I cannot sew so I am ordering mine from a lady on ebay who makes them for a lot of dissers. Her ebay username is gradysmom. She just left on a trip to Hawaii so I will give her a shout when she gets back!
The cruise name suggestions are sounding great!

Not to change the subject but Our oldest DD is a scrub tech! Due to their being to many techs and not enough full time positions here, among other roadblocks, she chose to not scrub anymore, and is managing a convience store. I told her she needs to move to a bigger city, but she is a mamma and daddy's girl and refuses to move further than OKC:confused3 She wants to go back to school and become a surgical RN,but is waiting till the children are old enough not to need day care anymore.
Ok, back on topic.:rotfl2: I'm so glad you are safe. I love a good severe storm, but not in the dark. I enjoy sitting on our front porch watching them roll across the sky,but they get to close, and I'm headed for the safe room.
I don't sew either, but it doesn't look hard. I wouldn't do it by hand though. Maybe we could use stitch witchery. It looks like interfacing, but you put it between two pieces of fabric, iron and it fuses them. Not sure if it would be strong enough for anything heavy, but it could work. Course buying them from the lady on ebay is an option.
Funny you should think of Wonder ful Christmas Cruise. That was the name of the first cruise meet thread I started. It fell off into the abyss long before they started listing cruises by year.:rotfl: When I started this one, I just put down the date.

Never heard of Stimlab. What do they do? I assumed Haliburton because it is the # one employer in the area. Duncan is a small to medium size town. Not a city, but not a one horse town either. No big shopping malls,or anything like that. It's close enough to Lawton ( 27 miles)where there is a mall. Not a huge one mind you. But a mall. It's a quaint older town. They have some beautiful homes on large wooded lots. Makes you feel secluded, yet you are inside city limits, with neighbors on either side of you. I still have some cousins living over there. My uncle retired from the Duncan police force several years ago.

Stim-Lab, a Core Lab Production Enhancement division, is the oil and gas industry's foremost provider of a broad range of research and testing services for drilling, cementing, completion and stimulation design, additive evaluation, petrology and reservoir analysis.
We simulate fracture acidizing, closed fracture acidizing and matrix acidizing of carbonate formations; and our GOHFER™ fracture simulator is the only simulator that can accurately model proppant transport, handle horizontal and asymmetric well models, model multiple perforated intervals with diversion between perofrations for limited entry design, allow for vertical and lateral variation of leakoff and rheology across the fracture, and accurately model frac-pac designs by using pressure distribution screen-out criteria.
Stim-Lab's research consortia offer the opportunity for companies to participate in multi-client studies that investigate subjects of broad industry interest. Producers, service companies and suppliers in these consortia study a variety of issues including proppant transport, proppant conductivity, screen cleanup, casing cleanup, testing methods for matrix fracture acidizing, and perforating damage assessment and prediction.

As for your DD waiting til the kids are older, she shouldn't wait. She has so many opportunities in front of her. I know it's scary leaving a smaller area, but she wouldn't believe what she can do. And there are "smaller" big cities that still have a fairly small town feel. A convenience store is such a scary place to be. I am actually in Ft Worth. Used to work in Dallas and I miss it terribly but still enjoy FW. I have always lived in big cities (I'm from Houston) but honestly couldn't stand my 3 months that I lived in Henryetta. Dh is a P.Eng he is a fracturing engineer.
How's this for a mouthful!!!
Producers, service companies and suppliers in these consortia study a variety of issues including proppant transport, proppant conductivity, screen cleanup, casing cleanup, testing methods for matrix fracture acidizing, and perforating damage assessment and prediction.
mmmmm ok. Thanks for the crash course:teacher: Clear as mud to me, but I did ask didn't I :rotfl: Oh yeah, see another reason you should have moved here. Courtney only lives 3 hrs away:thumbsup2

Sorry....hadn't seen this entry before I gave my suggestions. Still like it though.
THAT's a long story. :sad2:
I am getting sooooo excited about the cruise......
LOL it isn't leaving small town to go to big city, it's leaving mommy and daddy:rotfl2: She had a great job at the surgical center. 6:30 am to 3:00 pm,but she got tired of seeing tonsils and butts all day.:lmao: But it was the only thing in town that had hours that woked with day care. Then the drs that owned it, sold the building . They all went back to the hospitals. She went with them, but the hospital hired a ton of techs, and worked them all part time. Then there was the on call time, which again, meant we had to be on call when she was. If we would move with her, she would go in a heart beat. Her dream is to work at the trauma center in Houston. She has already checked into nursing school here. She is a single mom trying to make ends meet, and part time just didn't cut it. She is going to have to go to school during the day, and work at night. For now, at least, being manager, she works great hours. :confused3

Fine with me.
New topic here, but advice is needed. When I booked our flights back in February, I was using frequent flyer miles which you have to book waaaaaay early for Holiday flights as only a certain percentage of frequent flyer seats are allowed on any one flight. We are frequent flyers on Northwest but booked on Midwest Air as they are a partner airline. I booked us on the 1:45 PM direct flight. They just changed the flight (same flight number, mind you) to 11:10 AM which we just can't make. I called Midwest and they offered to put us on a night flight with a three hour layover in Milwaukee that gets us in just before midnight. As you can imagine, that sounds like nightmare travel for a family with small children.
I was thinking I'd call Midwest and see if they could push us pack a couple of days and we'd just go back to WDW and recoup until the 30th. Not to the parks, just go to a hotel and veg out. I want to try the Boardwalk, but hubby and son are intent on the AKL... where we stayed in January. I figure if we're going to pay all that money, like the rest of you regular folks (SOG is booked full), we might as well really soak up one of the hotels. It would have to be a deluxe though. I am a hotel snob and a little claustrophobic so it has to be a deluxe. What do you think? Anybody just stayed at a hotel to experience the hotel?

Wow, wish we could get a couple more days in WDW:rotfl: I'm a hotel snob too. The hotel isn't just a place to sleep, it's a destination. When I'm on vacation, I want to relax and spread out.

I know that you're staying at the Poly. Is that your first choice or do you have a favorite? I really want to stay at the GF someday, too, but the lowest rack rate is $605 per night at XMas and I think the theming would be lost on the kids. Maybe better to save for a long weekend without the kids... during the value season.
I have always been intrigued but the theming at the Boardwalk. I loved the AKL, mind you and would enjoy going back except that before we had a suite (b/c it was January and cost way less). Just wouldn't be the same all cramped into one room.
WL is actually offering a pretty decent military overbook rate through SOG so we could get a Courtyard View for the price of a Standard. Oh, what to do, what to do???:confused3
My hubby keeps saying it doesn't matter, we'll probably try them all before we die anyway. I am so Type A.

OMG that would be so great because TXdeVille(Courtney) and I are staying at AKV at the exact same time going on the exact same cruise. If you happened to book there then it would be really nice. We are vegging out for the 2 nights we will be at AKV! Where is Brenda staying?(oops I read below at the poly) I bet since she is doing cat 3 it is some swanky joint on the monorail!;) We stayed at the Grand Californian in November just so we could experience it in November and it was really nice! Any sane Mother knows you book the best travel time with the least amount of headache so we all understand your predicament. Well we are staying at our home resort AKV. If you want nice Christmas theming them WL is the one for you. It apparently is the most pretty and most hard to get at Christmas time. We are freeloading at concierge for 2 nights on our DVC points. We will spend one day at MGM. We are taking ds5 to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and all the other stuff and then having dinner at prime time and seeing the Osboune lights. We arrive in Tampa on the 18th and will do Busch Gardens for 2 days, shop and lookyloo around for two days before driving up to AKV on the 22nd.

I'm still trying to decide on DDP. The Deluxe plan would suite our eating habits better, as we could use either counter or table service all three meals. Actually, the Poly was our first choice. Last time we were at CBR. But the twins were 8 at the time, and didn't mind sharing a bed...much. Of the three monorail resorts, it is more "us" Besides, it will bring back fond memories of our 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii. But then, it could pale in comparison to the real thing.:rotfl: I admit to wanting to try the Boardwalk myself. I think Dale and I may go to dinner on the Boardwalk one evening. Kind of a date night. The twins can either get room service, or can eat at Capt. Cooks.

We were fortunate to get club level with our DVC points at AKV:worship:
Our theory is like you mentioned use the lounge to tide you over until meal time because you are staying at the resort!
We did the DDDP a couple weeks ago. I felt we were just eating all the time and our day was too scheduled. Being that it was so expensive we of course tried to get as many TS restaurants as possible to get our money's worth. We did use the credits though for some nice 2 credit restaurants! Due to the cost we would never get it when we have the kids with us tho!

Grrr... Midwest will only bump the ticket by 1 day at no expense to me... but... since it was a Sunday ticket, I can change it to a weekday, pay the change fee and still end up with a $30 credit, since it is so much more expensive to fly on a Sunday. Now I just have to call Northwest and see if they are willing to move the frequent flyer tickets, b/c Midwest has no control over their usage. The Northwest wed site is not cooperating at the moment.
Shouldn't Frequent Flyer "Rewards" be little less difficult! This is all making me feel a bit un-Disney.

As you said, we are staying at AKV pre-cruise. At our home resort with DVC. I would love to stay at VWL because of the decorations and such, but as you have already said, it will be difficult since it seems everyone wants to stay there.
Adrianna, if you want to stay in a suite, it might be cheaper to rent points from someone. They usually go for $10-11 a point. Depending on where you want to stay and the size of room you want, that is what determines how many points it will take. There is a discussion board for this as well. I would offer mine but am already using points from a year in advance. Not ideal but sometimes necessary.
As for the DDDP, I agree with drag n' fly. We used it in January. Thankfully our kids love to eat lobster, crab, etc otherwise we may not have even broken even on the cost. And we missed out on stuff because we had advanced dining reservations at table service restaurants and had to utilize transportation to get there, etc. I feel our days were way too scheduled and we easily lost several hours a day. If we ever did it again, I would do the regular plan. The only real reason we used the Deluxe plan is because we wanted to do the luau at the Poly which cost 2 credits each and other table service restaurants we wanted to try.

Well, we're flying AA with no discounts at all. Paying full price. It's a little more per ticket than Disney air was going to be, but we have more control over where we connect. or in our case not to connect. Between it being winter, and Christmas, we didn't want to risk getting snowed in up north.
Does anyone know how much more it would cost per person to upgrade to club level? I don't want to spend the entire four days rushing to eat. We like to wing it for meals. I know we want to eat at the Scifi Drive Inn,and O'haha for dinner. Kona for breakfast, and counter service the rest of the time. I would like to find something nice on the boardwalk for Dale and I. Guess I should start looking into that.:lmao:
Adrianna, good luck working with the airline. I hope you get what you want from them.

All-
The universe has given me a big fat 'no' on adding a couple of extra days to my trip. Apparently Northwest and Midwest are not currently offering partner travel with one another (though my tickets are still good) and I am stuck traveling Midwest because of the one ticket I actually paid for. I did finally get an answer from Midwest about the schedule change. I was told the change was based on their summer schedule and that this far out there could still be a couple more schedule changes and the addition of another afternoon direct flight, so potentially we will be okay. If we have to, we'll take them up on the 1 day bump forward and go visit the Kennedy Space Center. I'm going to let it go for now. The universe always seems to come together regarding these things.
As far as concierge, I think it's a smart idea. For us, it was usually about $125 over the room charge in that category when I was pricing the different deluxes. We have spent that much on a character breakfast alone at Cindy's, so to be able to snack all day long on that is a good deal! Might be a higher charge for you with the bigger kids though.
Anyway thanks for all of the encouragement. I was kind of getting excited about the idea of two more relaxing days at the world. Now I have to go see my in-laws for New Years! I no longer have an excuse not to.

I'm sorry you aren't going to get your extra days in. I was pulling for you.
Hopefully the airline will change the schedule so it works for your family.
I think I'll email my DU agent and have her check on cost to upgrade.Another good thing about going club level, we'll know what building we will be in. Which brings out another delimma. I requested a building close to TTC. It is the only building that has two sinks in the bathroom, and is on a mostly desserted beach.( alot of folks don't know it's there:rotfl2: ) Of course we all know a request is just that. We may or may not get what we want. Oh I hate decisions:lmao:

Good morning ladies. Well the weather is finally warming up somewhat. Yesterday I started all my annuals in peat pots in the house so they will be ready for planting near the end of the month. We are doing the REAS pkg. I contacted DCL yesterday and was able to switch our Palo dinner to the brunch which is what we wanted. I finally ponied up the coin for trip insurance last night.:scared: Have a great day and great weekend.

We toyed with the idea of the REAS package simply for the priority bookings, but decided against it. Hopefully being Castaway Club members will allow us to book early enough to have book brunch. We'd rather have the dinner, but feel guilty about ditching our kids on Christmas Eve or Christmas Night. We for sure don't want to miss Pirate Night on the 26th and the 27th should be Triton's (never been on the Wonder before so can't miss that), assuming we get PAAT which I assume we will since our kiddos are little. That leaves us with brunch. When our booking window on the Magic opened at the 75 day mark, all the brunch and high tea slots were already filled.
We never did get to try Palo, so keep your fingers crossed for us this time!

Oh I am sure it will pan out! We did not want to miss any dinners with our kids either including pirate night that is why we moved it to a brunch. I also thought the view up there would be nicer during the day than at night. What would the rotation be for the second seating? I wonder what they do for Christmas day. Do they have a special menu?

4 day cruise
TAAP 5:30 and 8:00
APPT 5:45 and 8:15
PTTA 6:00 and 8:30
Hey, I misspoke! This is from the info thread. They try to group all the people with little kids into the the TAAP. (Woo-hoo, this means we can do Palo on the last night, as Parrot Cay is my least favorite restaurant!!!) The people with older kids get APPT, and the all adult parties usually get PTTA. They stick pretty close to this rotation whenever possible so that the all adult parties don't have to put up with crying babies, etc. IT is not 100% certain, but a pretty good guesstimate.

We are doing the REAS pkg. I contacted DCL yesterday and was able to switch our Palo dinner to the brunch which is what we wanted. I finally ponied up the coin for trip insurance last night.:scared: Have a great day and great weekend.
Annette:santa:
OMG am I ever going to be busy this weekend. I had some time to kill while waiting for the dr office to open after lunch,so I went to Lowes. They had their 6pk of annuals .10 each! Let's just say I'm going to be up to my elbows in dirt all weekend:rotfl2: I also got two 4 gal pots, one Salvia, one Hibisus, and one Mandivilla(sp). And 7 two gal pots. Can't remember what they were. Something for my hummingbirds. Our patio table is crammed full:lmao:

I read somewhere else (can't remember where) that the do a special Christmas dinner wiith ham, turkey, stuffing, that kids of thing. Brenda, can you remember what they did on your XMas cruise in 2000?
Adrianna
I'm trying to remember. I think it was on the menu if you wanted it,but they also had the usual choices too.
I don't know if we will do Palo. Haven't discussed it with Dale yet. Let me see if I can figure this out. Adrianna, you said families with older children have APPT? Is the second Parrot Cay also Pirate Night? We have first dining,do you think we would be finished with dinner before the fun starts?
Ok got to run back to town, and pick up some stuff I forgot. See ya later

Brenda-
That would be the general rule, but with kids as old as yours, you could end up with the all adult rotation. They have to keep them balanced and I expect that the number of true all adult parties would be fewer on a Christmas Cruise. Again it's not 100% but even PassPorter says it's the general rule. Pirate Night is always the third night unless our special Christmas itinerary messes with that. The pic of my kids in my signature are their Hook and Tink costumes that they wore for Halloween and on the Magic for Pirate Night. Hopefull they'll still fit in December. I an thinking of ordering a custom Wendy costume for myself from Kelly Costumes.
Cheers,

The dinner was a big pirate shindig and then there was a big party on Deck 9 much later, like 10:00... after hubby and the kids were in bed. I am thinking that this was the fireworks night as well and remember sitting out on my balcony watching them. They shoot them off the starboard side. I went up for a little while to check out the midnight dessert bar at the deck party, but didn't stay for long.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that regardless of where you are dining on "Pirates in the Carribean" night, the entire ship eats from the same menu. Everything on it has a pirate-ish name like Mr. Smee's Bib Lettuce Salad. The dress for the evening in "pirate casual" and most everyone dresses up, so remember that when pirate Halloween costumes are 50% off. They come around selling special light up Hook and Tink cups. Unfortunately, we hit super rough seas that night and most of the dining room left before the main course was served. My son yakked at the table and my husband took him back to the room. Our Assistant Server was good enough to deliver the boys' dinner up to our room and the baby and I finished up in the dining room.

I was wondering if they would consider the twins adults for dinner. That's ok, works for me. We won't know till just before sailaway if we will have a special itinerary. It's completely up to the captain. I just know we did in 2000. I doubt any of my family will dress up for pirate night. I think it would be fun, but can't see Dale or Michael doing it. Lindsey might, but not 100% sure.
You children's costumes are adorable. Can you see the fireworks from a midship starboard balcony? I have read it can get pretty crowded on deck. It would be nice to watch them while relaxing on our balcony.

Yes, I don't like crowds so much and it seemed very crowded at the party. We were midship starboard on Deck 7 and the fireworks view was fantastic from the balcony. In fact, I think we might have been directly under where your suite will be. At one point we heard little feet running overhead and figured that we must be under a suite as our room had no room to run. :lmao:

The REAS really has some nice romantic touches, like unlimited use of the Rainforest Room and rose petals scattered in your stateroom one night, but with us sharing a room with the little ones, we aren't planning for romance so much. Maybe if they could scatter the rose petals on "secret" Deck 7 and I could hang a necktie on the door handle... The biggest benefit is being able to book Palo (and I am thinking your shore excursions as well... could be wrong on that) at the 105 day mark like the concierge/suite guests.
On another note...
I have managed to make a DCL sandwich after all. Northwest was able to change my tickets after all-at no charge. It pays to be persistant (annoying). We have now picked up 2 more days at WDW on the tail end. I have an email request in for a Courtyard View at the Wilderness Lodge through SOG overbook for the 28th and the 29th, so hopefully that will come through. If you have time send some pixie dust my way.
Have a great Monday, everyone!

Two ships can't dock at CC at the same time. There is only one berth. I bet the captain changes our itinerary, and we will either do CC before Nassau, or have our sea day, then Nassau, and CC last. I just wish we knew for sure before sailaway.:confused3

When I pull up my actual reservation number on the DCL website, it has the special itinerary listed of Dec. 25 in Nassau, Dec. 26 a day at sea, and Dec 27 at Castaway Cay. This is different than the usual 4 day itinerary which has the last two reversed. Our cruise is actually preceded by two back to back 3 day cruises, I assume so that the Christmas Cruise and the New Years cruise fell on four day cruises. If they had stayed with the alternating 3 and 4 day usual routine, it would have had people boarding a three day cruise on Christmas Day and yuck... who would want to do that. Annette, you are correct that the Magic docks at CC on Fridays (December 26), and since December 26 is a National Holiday in the Bahamas I suppose that is why we dock there on the 25th. It will be interesting to see if the usual shore excursions are offered.
Mostly speculation on my part, but it makes sense to me. I was a big X-Files fan though...y'know... "the truth is out there".

This is the response to an email I sent our DU agent a while back. She had mentioned at booking that this would be a special sailing for the holidays. I was thinking they would modify it, like they did last time we went. She explained what it really meant.
Hi Brenda,
The Christmas sailing is a special itinerary sailing in the fact that it's a 4-night cruise leaving on a Wednesday, usually 4-days leave on Sunday, and then 3 night's sail on Thursday.

Michael and I were in the parking lot of the allergy clinic when the storm hit the west side. Heavy rain, hail, and wind. Lindsey was home by herself. Once it let up enough to drive Michael and I headed for home. We were at Sheridan Rd and Lee when the sirens went off. Thankfully we were a block from where Dale works, so we went there.I called Lindsey to let her know the sirens were going off so she would go to the safe room.(we live in the country and can't hear the sirens) She was already inside it. She said she opened the front door to see if it was raining, and the wind blew the door open and it smacked her in the face. She saw the wind whipping the trees so she grabbed her blanket and teddy bear on the way to the safe room. The rotation the weathercenter saw was over on our side of town. Thankfully no tornado developed. We got home to find a section of our fence had blown over, and the gate blown off. Michael and I propped the fence up with a couple 2x4's but the gate will have to wait. Hopefully our oldest DS will come fix it this weekend. If not, Dale will have to put it back up when he gets home.
It's a beautiful day today though. Other than the swamp that used to be our front yard:rotfl:

Adrianna, glad to hear you got your two days at WL.
Brenda, I know narrowing the restaurants down is hard. God knows I did the same thing. Are you using the dining plan? What have you narrowed it down to? Perhaps I can help with suggestions if I have been to one...
Nice looking family Courtney! Not sure how I managed to skip over these posts:confused3
I'm still debating if I want to spend $600 on the DDP. I mean, could we really eat $600 worth in 3 1/2 days?
As for resturants. I know we want SciFi Drive In. DH loves old cars and science fiction,so I'm booking it as a treat for him.
Lindsey is a vegitarian,(who hates veggies) :confused3 I know..lol,so I have to find someplace she will eat. Figure she will eat lots of CS for the veggie burgers and cheese pizza.
I would LIKE to have a date night with Dale. Nothing we need to dress up for. I was thinking something on the boardwalk. Flying Fish maybe? The kids can fend for themselves at Capt. Cooks,or get room service.
Do you think we need to make ADR's for breakfast? If we upgrade to club level, we can do breakfast there without going OOP. If not we will probably eat at Kona Cafe in the mornings.

Brenda-
You know those of us not from here are a little stumped when the sirens go off. Two years ago I was hosting a coffee when they went of in May and nobody budged, I guess nobody knew what they really meant. Last year when the one tornado was actually spotted south of town, the MPs were driving through post with a megaphone telling everyone to go down to their basements immediately, so we did. When the siren went off last night, I stood by the door waiting for further instructions from the police and they never came.
So it's sounds like when they go off I am supposed to take cover... period. How do I know when it's safe to come out?
I don't mean to sound dumb, I am just from the distant north where we don't have these kinds of things.

We could definately eat $600 worth of food in 3.5 days at WDW (especially in Epcot), but then our eating habits don't work with DDP anyway. We almost always have character meal breakfasts and premium dinners. December is a somewhat scaled back vacation for us, though we get less "on budget" by the day. SOG has breakfast and dinner buffets included in the cost of our package, so I only plan to book a Fantasmic dinner package and a Candlelight Processional dinner package to get the preferred seating while we're at SOG. When we're at WL we don't plan to go to the parks, so I think we'll have dinner at Narcoossee's one night so that I can experience the GF at XMas and the other night eat at Artist's Point at the WL.
I would for sure make ADR's, even for breakfast during the Holidays. You can always call back later if you change your mind.
That's just me.

You don't sound dumb. Heck alot of people that have lived here all their lives don't get it. The sirens used to be a big joke around town. The least little thing would set them off. Used to be the law stated they could only sound the sirens if Comanche county was under a tornado warning. Several years ago, we had a major wind event. It wasn't a tornado, just straight wind but it caused alot of damage. People got mad because the city didn't sound the sirens. The city changed to law to allow them to sound the sirens if the wind exceeds 70 mph. Yesterday, we were never under a tornado warning ,so I'm assuming the winds exceeded 70 mph. Since Comanche County is so large, the warning may be for a part of the county no where near you. What I would do, is turn the TV on and watch KSWO. We also have a weather radio turned to the station they broadcast from during severe weather. We can't always depend on the TV as we have Satellite which goes out when the weather is at it's worst. The weather team will tell you which part of the county is effected by the storm. For example yesterday. They sounded the sirens in town, but the area being effected by the high winds was the East side. Meaning you guys ,as well as 90% of Lawton weren't in any danger. As for knowing when It's safe to come out. Again, use the TV and/or radio, but usually you can tell because the conditions outside will improve. Hope I didn't confuse you. Just a crash course in severe weather survival 101:thumbsup2

Truth be told, we probably can eat that much. What makes the DP not work for us, is having the one TS, and one CS per day. I would say most of our meals will be CS,as we like to wing it. The Deluxe plan would work as it's three meals a day and can be either CS or TS. But it's over $400 more than the basic plan. I think we will skip it this time, and pay OOP. Hopefully we can get club level to help stretch the old meal budget.

You know, Cirque is something I have always wanted to do. My son could sit through and even enjoy it, but the baby probably couldn't. Am rethinking Candlelight Processional for the same reason. I have never actually been to DTD.
Was just thinking today that every time we do to WDW, we attack it like it's going out of style (as if that could ever happen)... trying to hit all the big ticket character meals and main events... way overeating to try as many restaurants as possible. I would bet money that we'll go to WDW at least 10 times in the next 20 years. I am making a new resolution to pace myself.
I do, however, miss drinking my way through the World Showcase at Epcot. Ahhh... life before children. :drinking1

I never really thought about doing Cirque. Michael and I were watching Samantha Brown did her WDW Favorites show, ( I held him hostage, cause no one else would watch it with me:lmao: ) Anywhy, Michael said he thought that it would be "kick butt" (edited slightly)Guess that means he would like to go:confused3 Since Michael is our "I don't care" child. Well, One less thing I have to think about. Just got an email from our Dreams agent. DCL said they can't offer us the Dining Plan because we added a night onto the land protion of our land/sea pkg. Also, there are no club level reservations available to DCL. The resort only makes a certain number of rooms available to DCL for thier land sea pkg. passengers. They do have us on a wait list, but being the holidays, I doubt anything opens up.

About the sirens....the news guys down here said that now they sound them even when there won't be any tornados, just severe weather. Kinda bad if you ask me. People will condition themselves to never respond when they hear them and that one time is all it takes.
As for DH, Mike, still looking military, his hair was pretty short for that trip. It is usually a little longer on top. He has naturally curly hair so if he doesn't keep it short, he has an afro. :rotfl: Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Brenda, I have never been to the restaurants you suggested. I wanted to do the Sci Fi Drive in but we did the 50's Primetime Cafe instead. Sorry you can't do the dining plan though since you added the extra day. That stinks! One reason I am glad we have DVC. You can add DDP whenever you want for as long as you want. Doesn't even have to be for the length of you stay. We can DEFINITELY spend $600 in 3 1/2 days, but I think we would definitely need to do table service meals. The kids ordered lobster so one meal was just over $200! We ate at one of the seafood places in DTD. Name escapes me at the moment. It is right on a pier. Not Fulton's since it wasn't on the plan, but we want to eat there! You can make ADR's at DTD. And I would definitely make them for breakfast if not eating at the concierge.

You know, initially we were against DVC as well and couldn't understand why a friend of ours was doing it. I considered it a typical timeshare. Another friend of mine looked into another timeshare with Hilton and they were asking for $40,000!!! :scared1: Don't know the comparison per dollar for what you get with DVC. If you look at it as prepaid lodging and it being so flexible, it really is worth it. Kinda forces us to take vacations. And I will probably get to go places that I wouldn't normally. And you can buy park tickets or not, buy DDP or not unlike doing regular reservations. If you normally get something larger than a regular hotel room, with a kitchen, etc. it pays itself off a lot quicker. True, you pay money OOP for a while or right up front, whichever you do. Buy come vacation time you are shocked at how much you are spending. For example, this December for us will cost us around $2500 instead of over $6000. Be careful on the resales....you can find great deals but make sure that all the points aren't used up. You also won't get any incentives that they will be offering. They are building some DVC resorts in California at Disneyland and they will be starting one shortly in Hawaii!! Can't wait for that one!! Check out dvcnews.com if you want more info.
I only wish we had done it sooner. With my kids being as old as they are I won't be able to take them to as many places as I wanted to.

I keep meaning to tell you that the people at the table next to us on the Magic were from Alberta. The husband was in the oil industry and the wife said she owned an upscale childrens clothing boutique. About the third night they told us they were Canadian. I looked at hubby and said "I knew it!". She looked mortified and I tried to reassure her that is was just the way she said something that made me think that. She was afraid she'd made some weird faux pas. Good times.

Yeah, the turd tossers thing is new to me as well. And don't think everyone in Texas has such a twang. I certainly can when I want to but most of the time we don't. Texas has regional accents depending on where you are. For example, I can ALWAYS tell someone is from East Texas or the Panhandle. Most people who live in the cities really don't have an accent. There are those of us who do. And we, at least us, don't sound like anyone on a Jimmy Dean commercial. That is too funny! :lmao: We all don't sound like Matthew McConaughey....although I wished he were here beside me talking to me, dimples and all.....:cloud9:
As for Planet Hollywood it is actually pretty close to Cirque du Soleil. We are now thinking about going to Cirque. No one was interested before but saw a commercial for another version that they are doing and were all interested. Maybe not though.
I don't think we will be doing much dining on the WDW side of things. We will have one nice dinner which might be at Fulton's. Haven't decided yet. Might be the time we tell the kids about the cruise....maybe not. Might just arrive at port. We are really planning on eating mainly at Universal. The kids are fans of Emeril. It's a bit pricey but we may eat there. We all met him when DS was 1 so of course he doesn't remember, but has pictures to prove it. I don't think they would forgive us if we didn't eat at his restaurant.
Prime Time was SOOOOO much fun. Can't remember our waiter at the moment but he was "Uncle" something. Got onto me because I didn't finish my HUGE portion of chicken pot pie or eat my veggies. The kids LOVED it!! I want to hit the Brown Derby as well. Won't be this trip. Maybe next June. I am thinking we will hit Star Wars Weekend 2009.

Me? Busy at work or playing chaffeur. Raining here now. Hate the rain. I'm needing to do yard work myself.
I got to thinking about the whole accent thing. I went on a trip for 2 weeks to California several years ago and the people there said I had an accent....however so subtle. Lots of times we probably don't even realize we have one unless it is SOOOO evident. I am sure that I would be able to recognize the Canadian in you.....I think it's the vowels. It may only come out when you say certain things. Several people I know from up north whether it is South Dakota or Boston have their accents shine through every once in a while.
BTW, I like minivans. There are some really good ones out there. And AWESOME to take trips in especially when you have two kids who would rather bicker most of the time....
Hope everyone else's weather is great

So far I've been able to "just say NO!" to a minivan. If the price of gas doesn't drop soon I may have to think otherwise. $85 to fill the gas tank in my beast and that doesn't even get me through a whole pay period of mom errands.
I am from Washington State originally and I really think we have the nost neutral accents in the nation, but I think I use phrases and idioms that are uniquely Northern.
In cruise news...
I was bored yesterday and was just curious to see if the recent tax rebate checks had sold out our cruise. Cats 4 and 6 are down to GTY only (cat 4 was not even available a few days ago). Cat 8 and 12 are sold out. Cats 9 & 10 are down to their last few rooms and selling rooms on deck 1. There seem to be decent amount of Cat 5 and 11 left. I only looked at rooms that hold families of 4, though. I know... I have too much time on my hands. :sad2: This gives me a brain break... I spend my days talking to two kiddos and a cat.

Sounds like a full boat for sure. We had a 2005 Grand Caravan SXT and got a 2008 Kia Sedona...the dodge was a piece of crap....much happier with the Kia....no patriotism issues here....whatever was the best vehicle for us!!!!
It is supposed to be 80f this weekend woooooohooo!

Oh lovely sun!! You came back to me!!! :lovestruc Of course there were a few sprinkles early afternoon, but the sun is back OUT!! Good weather here this weekend as well. Good thing....we are camping!!
Know what you mean about the gas. We had an Avalanche and a Jeep. The Avalanche was more useful so we kept it and I got a Camry. Gotta love that car! Wanted a hybrid but it was too expensive for me at the time. Ended up trading the Avalanche for a Toyota Tundra. I warned DH that if he doesn't let up on the accelerator and not act like he is 18 I will make him downgrade to a sedan. I even suggested him taking my car to work on the weekends to save gas. It was like I stole his ice cream away!!! :rotfl:
Adrianna....you do have too much time on your hands. But I wish I had more like you.
Hope the CT scan goes alright.

Well the CT scan was cool! I will get the results tomorrow. When I went for my physical they found a shadow on my liver and decided to scan it. I am sure it is nothing and I probably have a shadowy liver...from all my love flubber:lovestruc

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango...4WD.....with the Hemi:sad2: We go through $100 + every week for gas. Yes, It's a gas hog,but it's paid for. 85% of my running is for the kids activities. Soooooo We are buying Lindsey's car now instead of waiting for her birthday in Nov. We realized with what we put into the gas tank of the Durango each month,we could make a car pmt,and have money left over. It kinda became a no brainer.
We are getting her a Corolla. The salesman went over the safety features of the Corolla bumper to bumper with me. I can't help but be impressed with how safe these little cars are. Not to mention the 30 mpg:thumbsup2
I would love a Camry Hybrid as well. But the hybrid wouldn't help me so much as I have a lead foot:rolleyes1 We thought about the Camry for us,but since the twins will be needing cars in the next 6 months, it just made more sense to get one for Lindsey. Michael wants a Tundra so bad. I looked at those too. Sorry, but it's not in the budget, and the mileage isn't good enough for the investment. Neither is the Tacoma.

Pixie dust that it is nothing. :wizard:
I'm thinking about the car for Victoria as well. She turns 16 in December. Should have good deals at that time too. I'll look into the Corolla. You have sold me on it. After all we are a Toyota family!!:grouphug: Also thought about a Honda Civic. I know they are dependable as well.
BTW, Are we still doing the Fish Extenders?? I'm starting to compile a list of everything I need to get.....;)

Well I am back got the results. I do have a bit of love flubber on my liver (aka fatty deposit) they also did find a lump. However the good news is the blood is flowing through it fine and it might be just some weird liver anomoly so I have to get it re-done in 6 mos! Today I bought my annuals. Got mostly wave petunias this year. I will contact the fish extender lady she should be back from Hawaii! I am buying mine from her; is everyone else going to do one?

I don't know if these safety features are "new" or I've been under a rock and never heard of them till now. The 2009 Corolla has a roll bar built into the frame, break away motor mounts which drop the engine onto the ground in a head on accident. Also "active head rests" Which come up and forward if the car is rear ended. Then your basics, like power locks which lock when put into gear, and 3 point seat belts. Front and rear passenger airbags too.
The only thing I'm not sure about, is the electric steering:confused3
Those are alot of saftey features which come standard on a $17,000 car.
Annette, I'm glad the news was good. I'm up for fish extenders if everyone else is. You may want to PM me the ladies link. I thought I would make one, but then think...nawww I hate to sew.:rotfl2:

Wow! Nice features. I don't think my 2007 Camry has that. Year of the new body. I don't think I will get a brand new car for her. I knew about some of those features though....like the lock thing.
I had already started thinking about what to put in the fish extenders. I think we should do it. Make sure you PM me the ladies link as well. I definitely won't be sewing and would hate to ask my boss to do it, although she would (I don't know anyone else who sews that is nearby). Besides, I don't know how to get creative in the design for it. How do you find these people anyway?
Glad to hear about the CT, Annette. Kinda scary though. I am sure it is nothing. Would hate to see a scan of my liver.....:rolleyes1

I have never been to WDW during the holidays, or even the busy summer months, so I am nervous about the crowds. I've been thinking about the things I can't miss in the parks while we're there.
1. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me! Pirates of the Caribbean.
2. It's a Small World. (Let's just keep this our dirty little secret, though!)
3. Osborn Family lights in MGM.
4. Haunted Mansion-I hear it's specially decorated at XMas.
5. China Pavillion in Epcot-hoping to buy the doll I couldn't afford there five years ago.
6. Mexico Pavillion b/c it's pretty.
7. Splash Mountain b/c it was in rehab during our January trip.
8. Fantasmic! Illuminations!
9. Hubby and I drinking ourselves through the World Showcase. Oh drat, we have little kids... can't do that anymore!
10. "Dead men tell no tales..." back to POTC one more time, baby!
What's the attraction you just can't miss?
