Didn't realize you had started the PTR already! But, we're in! We'll be arriving on the 19th pretty early since we're driving this time. We figure we'll stay somewhere in Florida on Saturday night (since weekends are higher in points at DVC resorts) and drive a few hours on Sunday to get to WDW by at least lunchtime. Not sure when you're planning on leaving, but we should definitely plan to meet up that night!

Hi Jodi!
I haven't made my flight ressies yet, but I'll probably leave Monday mid-morning. DH needs to figure some things out. An adult has to be there to get the kids off of the bus, and if he is taking off early on Friday, I will probably need to be there on Monday for bus drop off. We're going to check the flights and costs, since this is a seriously budgeted trip, but we have to wait a few weeks until DH's vacation situation is sorted out. He took "family sick" days when I had my gal bladder surgery, but they took 3 vacation days instead. He is fighting to get them back. If he wins (which he should) there is less pressure on me to get back. If he doesn't, I'll have to book an earlier flight.
I vote on DTD Sunday night, myself. We can storm a restaurant and then go par-tay. Unfortunately, this might involve too much work with baysitting and whatever for the people traveling with kids. :(
OK, must do housework! Holidays are bearing down!

Sounds like you are going to have a blast!
Camping tip one: practice putting your tent up first before the trip. And if you need to put it up in the dark, you will need serious flashlighting!

Flying in probably early morning. It looks like the "cheap" flights are leaving here around 6am. Even hitting the park the first day, I will plan on being back mid day to set up.
I'm working on a "wish list" so family can get me supplies for the holiday. My ILs are psyched I am going, and my whole side thinks I am beyond nuts. :confused3 What can ya do??
And hey! You are at TWO WEEKS!! :cool1:

Hi, ED! (you know if you come, this will have to be your Tee shirt nickname)
I'm thinking it's probably going to be the 19th. Jodi won't be in until probably lunch time on Sunday, and I am probably going to have to leave relatively early on Monday the 20th to go back to the airport (Still working on this timing).

PFFT! We only ever fly 2 or 3 times a year, and almost never the same airline. No FF miles for us. :sad1:
Fortunately, we can usually get decent fares (not $65!!) and non-stop flights to orlando. All those New Yorkers visiting relatives. LOL. pirate: Maybe I'll look a little further east for the Oct. Flight. I might be willing to drive a little further for better fares...just have to factor in my 15 MPG on the truck....hmmm....

While I was sitting by the pool, DH and I had an argument over whether or not I was going to be able to carry everything I am planning on packing. SO, I went online, showed him the tent and shelter (and fan and set-up kit) I picked out and wish-listed (he's getting them for me for my birthday if I have to order the myself!).
THen I actually made a packing list. MORE THAN 10 MONTHS before the trip! I'm a loser.
I'm confident I will be able to transport everything myself in one big rolling-duffle, a carry-on, and maybe one seperate carrying case. After I wrote everything down, he reluctantly agreed. HA! Point to me! :cool1: :cool2:

No sun today! It's windy and chilly and off and on showers! They cancelled a bunch of snorkelling and scuba trips, it's so bad. Everyone's hiding in their rooms. We tried the hot tub for a while (and the kids went in the freezing pool) but the wind coming off the beach was pelting everyone with sand, so we all gave up.

We are meeting at Biegarten for lunch on Sunday the 19th. Time to be determined by Buzz's ADR. :rolleyes1
Will we then head to DTD for par-tay-ing?? Or just wander around Epcot and bloat ourselves further, or split up and re-meet in the late night with those able to ditch kiddos, or just all go our separate ways at that point???

So here are my plans for October, better known as my delusions of granduer! :lmao:
Oct 18-20th, Sat-Mon
Pop came out to about 515 with PH passes (solo)
I`ve been thinking about it, I dont mind going solo at all! no whining! I can do whatever I want! wander and take lots of pictures! Sit on main Street for hours with no one telling me that this is getting embarrassing!
I`ve already downloaded DING from Southwest just to get an idea of prices,,so far its 89 one way! NOT BAD!! only booking through august,,but I dont have the money now anyway...just wanted to know what to expect,,
So fly in Sat,,ME to hotel (motel really) head straight out to MK,, My fave! :cloud9: maybe meet up with Angela and Scott for dinner,,,WISHES!! :cloud9:
Sunday; MGM for TOT and RNRC :cloud9: Epcot,,DIS meet!! :cheer2: DTD party!! Adventurers Club!! Yes?
Of course Steve knows nothing of this little plan,, I`ve been planting little seeds here and there,,but still,,,,

$89! Sweet! I hate Southwest, would have to fly out of Islip (1.25 hr drive each way!!), and nothing looks like less than $99 one way, which is not really less than the $189 round trip I have been seeing for Delta (not even factoring for gas). I haven't booked flights either, as we are still waiting to find out HHBG's vacation/work situation.
Keep working on your DH!! LEAN LADY! pirate:
My itinerary looks like this:
Fri: arrive as early as possible, set up camp if site is available. curse. set up camp properly. GO to some park to blow off steam (probably MGM...err...DHS). (If site not available, ditch stuff, head straight to parks, but get back early to set up) Eat somewhere. see fireworks.
Sat: Park hop. Maybe end up in epcot eating my way around the world. :cutie: Possibly meet up with Ed and Scott for dinner. :cool1: see different fireworks
Sun: continue park hopping jaunt. DIS meet! continue to DTD to make fool of self on dance floor. PAR-TAY!
Mon: THis is the day that really depends. If I can get away with going home LATE, I will use resort check in, then hit the parks for a last day. If I have to be home to get the kids off of the bus, I will check out and go to the airport.

Hey Ed,
Glad you can join us (maybe)! We're driving down from Indy in October, so we'll probably leave early Saturday morning (since DD will have school on Friday). We'll drive all day and probably stop someplace in southern Georgia for the night. Then, we'll get up early on Sunday and finish the drive. We should arrive in WDW by around noon on Sunday. The only way this may change is if Southwest or AirTran comes out with unbelievable fares to Orlando (like $50 each way or something). It's happened before, but we're not counting on it.
We're staying at OKW in a one-bedroom villa. This will be our first time staying in our home resort. Since we'll have a car, I might try to do some cooking in the villa, instead of eating out every meal. We didn't have a car last year, so we did the dining plan. It worked out well though, since our little one was still 2 years old and ate for free at buffets. We did a few character meals and only paid for two adults and one child. And of course, it's the little one who eats more than the six year old!
Anyway, I have no idea what our plans are for right now. Eric & I have annual passes from our December trip, but we have to buy tickets for the girls. Other than meeting up with you guys on Sunday and doing the Halloween party one night at MK, we don't have any concrete plans. It's too early to be thinking about which park, which day or ADRs. I'm sure we'll have to do a Princess breakfast or lunch and I'm debating doing BBB. If I can get Grandma to pay for it, we'll do it.
I'm glad to see so many people trying to come down for our meet. It should be a lot of fun! Meeting Buzz in December was .... how shall I say it.... interesting. No really, he seemed like a normal guy, not as crazy as he makes himself out to be online.
Just over nine months to go!

That's still cool, though. That means you won't have to leave WDW until late afternoon on Monday.
Are you doing the dining plan? We decided that it's not worth it for the four of us. We're going to be eating in the villa a lot of the time to save some $$. I'd rather spend it on BBB or MNSSHP. We'll do some counter service meals and probably limit the table service meals this trip. With four eating now, it's getting a bit pricey. Of course, Buzz is paying for Sunday's dinner...

No DDP for me. I don't eat enough for it to be worth it. Also, with the F&W festival, I am going to try to get to Epcot a few times yo try all of their goodies.
I haven't decided what the "plan of attack" will be yet, but I prefer TS meals. Being alone will be a little weird, but I still prefer sitting down to eat. I just need to decide where now. :scratchin:
I think I'm going to end up skipping MNSSHP and BBB (hmmm....I oculd get all dolled up for the meet....:lmao: ) I've never done DQ, and I want to do a bunch of the rides that the kids are to small for. We don't baby swap, we just skip them, so I want to get on everything they can't. :)

Thought I'd pop in here just to make sure you all weren't up to no good and because Buzz told me to come over here. (Yeah, it's a delayed reaction or something. I've been finalizing plans.)
Since our October trip has now seemingly turned into a honeymoon, I'll have to talk to my fiancee and see if he's interested in meeting up with the Ip-Dips. (No, it's not a shotgun wedding. It just happens to work out for my schedule and is at a time of year that I've always wanted to get married.) The only day I'd be able to commit right now is the 19th but we'll be in Disney until the 24th if that doesn't work out.
Have a grand time and hope the picture helps!

I dunno. If you can somehow take the top off that crock pot and maybe put one of those strainer contraptions nearby, it could look like one of those really big fry daddies. That raised lid just takes it from being a potential fry daddy to being a real crock pot. Fry daddy lids are flat and don't have that raised handle on the top.
Oh, and it'd have to be black. No self-respecting fry daddy user would have any other color. It'd just be nasty-looking once you used the oil and such.

SO!
OK, I have been asked about my camping "stuff". Since I'm feeling chatty, here's an update.
What I have:
an air mattress.
Sheets, blankets, and towels
christmas lights for the shelter
a flashlight
a toiletries tote
toiletries
extension cords and surge protectors
a timer for the lights
a camp chair
travel ipod player/alarm clock
a lot of motivation and excitement
What I do NOT have:
a tent :scared1:
a tent putting-up kit (or whatever it's called)
a shelter
a fan
clips for putting up the lights
a good, lightwweight duffle for packing all of my camping stuff in
camping experience
HHBG says we can check out tents while we're on vacation in AZ, and then order them when we get home, since we have plenty of time before my trip. I WANT the tent I chose out, but I have to wait for him to OK it, since it is so much $$ and we both have to agree.

Ok, what on earth is a tent putting-up kit??? Wouldn't that be you??? (Or whoever you can con into helping you? :lmao: )
Tho, you might need a hammer for pounding in stakes - that's about the only thing I can think of that wouldn't come with the tent.
Oh, yeah - tarp/groundcloth for putting under the tent.

No help. just me. There's a kit you can buy with a mallet, extra stakes, and some other stuff.

Thank you.
Sorry everyone for being grumpy. :(
Hopefully after I talk to the dentist, we'll get this figure out. The braces are so far back, I can't even put wax on them.
Maraena, I hope I didn't scare you off with my grumpiness. Welcome.
Heh, I must've missed the grumpiness. I see the edit but I'm not one to get scared off easily. (Heck, I'm not one to get offended very easily for that matter! I also sometimes have issues reading between the lines, being empathetic, offering emotional support, acting motherly, being touched etc. Basically I've been told I must have some odd hormonal balance because I'm more like a woman from Mars - rather than Venus. :rotfl: ) Just been very, very busy of late.
And I wasn't meaning to pick apart your embroidery either. Just was running on limited time, wanted to post real fast, and probably didn't edit my wording as well as I should have. I'm just a rather blunt person and completely unaware of how embroidery works or how much something can be adjusted. (I don't sew. Period. Fiancee does that stuff and I happily let him! In fact, the darling is wanting a sewing machine and I'm thinking of it as a long-term investment in my sizing future.) I was just offering up the differences between the two since everyone else was yelling crock pot without substantiating their opinions. :rolleyes1 So me being the problem solver that I am, I figured I'd give a visual and textual reasoning for the differences. I'm certain that everyone definitely appreciates all your efforts in even locating a pattern for it. (FYI, I personally think that fry daddies look a lot like drums or even sand buckets.)
Anyhow, just wanted to post that I'm still alive and still somewhat watching this thread. I'll offer up a couple ideas for the braces too: ambesol and wax. Make sure you use that wax religiously for a bit to cut down the tenderness on the inside of your mouth. Ambesol also works wonders for your teeth as they're shifting about. Or, since you're over the legal age (I was 11 when I had my braces), liberal amounts of your favorite alcholic beverage. I wouldn't suggest whiskey or bourbon if you have any open sores (from the braces rubbing) on the inside of your mouth though! That stuff burns. :scared1:

I have a running thread on the camping board, also.
I am a weird person. When I travel, I am either very very spartan or an extreme overpacker. In life I am a clutterbug, so I am usually pretty spartan when I travel. (except to Cayman. Dunno why :confused3 )
I have already got a packing list written up for the trip. :) It is way way way shorter than most packing lists. Especially because I will be at WDW, not cooking, and basically using my tent as a hotel room. :)

Iirc, I spent about $110 on a Perlina bag once (or was it $150?). That was my first nice purse, ever, about 10 years ago, and it lasted about 5-6 years. My current everyday purse I spent about $90, and it has been a workhorse for the past couple of years. I've found cheap purses just don't hold up to the abuse I dish out to them!

Uh, I break 3 digits for sunglasses. But then again, (ask Scott,) in New York, that just doesn't seem so horrible. :) I am weird...though talking to a lot of people I know in new York, I am not alone in this: I wear cheap shirts and buy my jeans on Ebay. My socks come from target. I wear a plastic (stitch) watch, and carry a cheap (Stitch) wallet. I have everything ranging from $.99 - $600 shoes....but I pay up for handbags and sunglasses. :confused3
HHBG is the same way. He wears CUSTOM, hand made suits to work every day.....we're talking 4 digit suits here, people, and the first digit isn't 1. The same people make him custom dress shirts. ANd he wears ties from the DOLLAR store.

Lol - well, if I bought sunglasses for myself, I'd have to pay 3 digits, because they'd be prescription. Which may explain why I don't have any currently, lol. (I wore contacts until I got pg with ds and they didn't fit anymore, and then I kept with glasses because of napping, etc, and never went back to contacts.)
But, you are definitely talking a different league of business clothes than I'm used to! Even when I worked corporate, my good suits were maybe $300. And now that I'm out in the boonies, we are pretty casual. Dh would love to have a bespoke suit, but it is hardly worthwhile when he wears them maybe once a year. (He's very hard to fit - broad shoulders but relatively short)
Of course, I suspect that if I had the money for such things, I'd be much more likely to spend it on furniture, art, and garden stuff instead, not to mention, my screened in porch, and dreaming even bigger, the addition we want to add to the house...

I WISH he got his suits for free!!! :headache: He is a higher up exec at a big Investment bank (I would call it a Wall Street Firm, but they're in midtown :goodvibes ), and really needs to wear the top-end suits. It's like, the other people there know how senior you are by how good your suits are. LOL. He gets the lower end of the hand made suits, but they are higher than a lot of ones we could buy, and not much more than a designer suit, but they are made to his exact measurements, so he looks awesome in them. His boss has all of his suits made in Hong Kong, and flies out there once a year to get them. :sad2:
the wrost thing about it is, since he wears a suit EVERY DAY, he has about 7 or 8 suits at a time, and wears them out at a good clip, so we have to buy him one or two new ones every 6 months or so. :sad2:
I,on the other hand, am an urban redneck. :goodvibes I know nothing about the country or country living, but I'm pretty much a jeans and tee (or sweater in the winter) person. I splurge on coats when I need them (I have a 5 year old and 7 year old coat right now), bags once a year (other times of the year, I am a DSW Gal), and dressy shoes. My "walkign around" shoes are cheap. I got o the city probably once a week on average, and walk a minimum of 3 or 4 miles while I am there window shopping and meeting HHBG for lunch. That will beat up a pair of shoes pretty quick.
My sister, and cousin live in manhattan proper, and have converted me to the dark side, lol. They both wear quality shoes, and sis carries a designer handbag. DC's BF works for GAP as the head of production (Or something similar), and DC and he both wear a lot of Gap. They both love Gap Jeans (as do I), but sis wears designer, since she used to work for a designer Jeans house.

It does seem like the only people I see out here wearing suits on a regular basis are bankers, so it doesn't surprise me that your dh is a banker!
Of course, another disadvantage of the suburbs is that while I don't need to wear the truly expensive clothes, there also aren't the great thrift stores like in the city. Tho I am pretty convenient to a lot of outlets. My sister is very urban, and introduced me to thrift stores - but she is definitely not a label person!!!

HHBG asked me to point out that he is NOT a banker....though he does have a "banker's tan" (aka, the Vampire look) :rotfl2:
He is/was a trader, and is currently one of the heads of IT for the Energy Department at his company....basically there's the head of IT, then him, though he's not officially the head of IT for the dept, he doesn't report to the guy who is. :confused3 i's very confusing.
Honestly, the thrift stores in NYC are expensive and something of a rip-off. There is a thriving vintage market here, and it drives the prices up to ridiculous levels.
I shop my thrift in Phoenix, Brooklyn, and eastern LI where my folks still live. I also shop the world's largest thrift store (eBay). When we lived in Hoboken, the thrift stores were better.

Ok, sounds very confusing. I know lots of IT people, and a few investment people (tho lots more IT geeks!), but ok... Actually, my BIL is an IT guy for a bank, as it happens, and he used to work for a trading company, incl. 6 months setting stuff up at their London office. But, my BIL has absolutely nothing to do with any of the bank/trading stuff, afaik! He also doesn't have to dress up very much, tho when they were in the same building as the main bank, he had to wear ties every day. But, they could be silly ties - and often were, lol. So, all that to say, I'm guessing your dh's job is a bit different than my BIL's!
The thrift stores I used to shop in the city were really, really cheap. We're talking like $1 for a shirt, or $3 for jeans. I refuse to do eBay for clothes - I'm much too picky about trying stuff on before I buy it, regardless of how cheap it is. And I only buy about 5% of what I try on!

Okay, guys... I was just out looking at airline tickets for my MIL's trip to Orlando next week and I decided to do a little research for our October trip, just to see what prices are... and I SCORED!!!! AirTran has $69 each way tickets right now for our dates in October. Actually, we'd have to come in on Saturday evening instead of Sunday, but that's okay. With the price of gas and the wear and tear on our car (that is now paid off), I'm thinking an extra $150 to fly doesn't sound that bad. Now I have to find a place to stay on Saturday night because adding another night at OKW is out of the question. Weekend nights are 41 points! I'd rather spend $99 or so and stay at POP or one of the other values. We'll arrive in Orlando around 6:45 pm on Saturday night, so all we'll need is a place to crash before loading up and moving to OKW on Sunday morning. Now to convince DH to buy the tickets now....

Tent and shelter ordered. :thumbsup2
I got a 6 lb tent. I hope it's easy to set up. Otherwise, I'm screwed. I'll definitely have to practice in the back yard this summer. It's only a 3-person tent, so if we decide to family-camp, we'll end up buying a new one. :confused3 I just didn't want to schlep a 25lb tent around for just me.
I got a light-weight shelter, too. And a rolling duffle that should be lighter than our current one. I also got a fan/light. I think I have almost everything....except for a mallet.
Cabelas didn't have rubber mallets. :headache: HHBG sayd he'll get me one at Home Depot. I'll probably fill in my packing gaps at Target.

OK, I did it! I booked the airline tickets! We'll be arriving Saturday evening now instead of Sunday mid-day, so that's good. An extra park day! We got all four tickets for $712! Here are the times:
Saturday, Oct. 18th
Arrive MCO at 6:43PM
Friday, Oct. 24th
Depart MCO at 6:07PM
I'm still looking for a room for Saturday night, since our DVC reservation just covers Sunday through Friday. Adding a weekend night is a lot of points. It will make much more sense to book at a value for one night, especially since we'll be arriving so late.

Its good for Oct 19-22nd. Sun, Mon, tues, (that screws up school) and they only have All Star Sports for the code. :scared: .
So I will stick with my original plans. I have to check with my Birth Mom in Mass about taking the kids for a few days. shouldnt be a problem. I dont want anyone down here to know we are going. :rolleyes1
And I`m getting some pretty good dings from Southwest. I just have to pay down my Cap One card enough.

r the DINGS from Southwest? They are about to be hit with a $10 million fee for not maintaining there planes by the gov't I guess. I would think they might start doing higher fares. Also, there planes were found not maintained, you could not pay me to get on one of them :scared1:
Now I hope they don't say the same about Jetblue.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Southwest lowered their fares for that reason. People will not want to fly with them, so they'll lower their fares to keep their business. If fares are higher (and their safety level is questionable), they're going to lose big business.
We usually fly AirTran though. It's usually comparable to SW in price, but their flight schedules are better from Indy.
