Hey hun!!!! We're still at Disney..staying over at BWV now. Deej said he thought he saw you the other morning at GF but he wasn't sure lol...i said 'well..you should have just yelled 'CAM!'...she would have waved!' lol
Anyways...im SO glad you guys had a great trip....it was awesome meeting you and your lovely hubby. He is such a sweety. DJ really enjoyed his company (as he was out-numbered during our little meet lol). I thought I would post a pic of all of us for you....
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc182/OceanGdss/IMG_0305.jpg
Hope to see you again real soon!!!!
Love ya!
Meg -- You are such a darling and I am so happy that I finally got to meet you. We were at GF yesterday. I wish DJ had said "hi" -- then I'd know he didn't think we were complete nuts after our little get-together Saturday. Seriously, though, you two are so sweet and it was so kind of you to take time away from your honeymoon to meet up at Magic Kingdom. Hope to see you again soon!
What a great shot of the four of you. :goodvibes
I can't believe I forgot to tell you Happy Anniversary today!!!
Hope you are having a good day and staying warm. I'll see you in the am.
Thank you, Patty! I was so excited to meet those guys that my smile was huge enough to show my molars!
CUTE pic! Looks like you girls had fun!! :)
Michelle - It was great meeting other DIS Brides. Just wait until you get to do the same in January! You'll have a blast! :cloud9:
So happy to hear you, Howard and the dresses made it WDW. I am sure you had a wonderful Anniversary trip. I was thinking about you Friday night with the bad weather we were having. They closed our building at 2:30 and told everyone to go home.
. . . .
Linda
Thank you for thinking of us, Linda. It really wasn't too bad at the airport since I had my kindle (e-book) and Howard. I just felt badly that he had to drive to OKW in the middle of the night because I knew he was exhausted. It was all worthwhile.
And I am convinced Owners' Locker is a fantastic resource for brides-to-be who can get to Orlando at least once before their wedding trip. :wizard:

From the looks of you ... you will slide right in.. "Like Buttah" :thumbsup2

It sounds like you had a great trip. The owners lockers sounds like such a great resource to have at your disposal :thumbsup2
I love the shot of the meet with the fellow DisBrides. I know I had a blast when I met a few during our wedding trip and am looking forward to meeting up with Toni during our anniversary trip.
I can't wait to read more and I can't believe you're so close :woohoo: :yay:

Happy (belated) anniversary to you and Howard!
I'm just catching up on all the goings-on here and just had to check in on your journal. My goodness, you've been busy--and had to overcome lots of stress (love computer issues). I'm so happy you got an opportunity to get away for your anniversary--you two celebrate your relationship every day, I know, but it's cool to be able to have a weekend trip, too.
And you look fabulous. Do you always glow like that?
The VR is getting so close, too. It's going to be lovely and magical. Thanks for taking us all on the journey with you...your journal consistently gives me the warm fuzzies! (Very toasty this time of year, too.) :goodvibes

Vanessa - I am a bit shocked to realize we leave for WDW 2 weeks from tomorrow. Once I get my 12 mile training run in on Friday, I will feel prepared for the 1/2 marathon, and that will be one last thing to stress about.
Happy (belated) anniversary to you and Howard!

Thank you so much for visiting, Debra! LOL! about the "glowing" -- It was so wonderful being away with Howard that I may in fact have been glowing. More likely, it was from the sun -- 80 degrees and sunny in MK on Saturday. It was gorgeous!!
I am really excited that Howard has now taken care of 2 more major tasks -- his contribution to the programs and naming our signature drink. :yay: Now, he just has to decide on a Mother/Son dance song. :rolleyes1
With the placecards/seating arrangements done, I can now turn my attention to the programs (only the outside wasn't lost in the great Keener computer crash of 2008) and finish up the menus. Then, the only major projects left are the gift bag tags (with reservation/resort information) and the welcome letter. And Howard and I did a lot of scouting around at GF on Sunday to be able to put some detail into the welcome letter about transportation issues. So, it shouldn't be too hard. I may be able to cross a bunch more stuff off my to-do list by Friday night. :woohoo:
Happy Hannukah and Merry Christmas, everyone! Thank you so much for enriching our lives this year with your love, support, friendship, encouragement and kindness. :grouphug:

Well, with my last long training run behind me (12 miles!), I can now feel as prepared as possible for the 1/2 marathon and can focus on the VR tasks yet to be completed. :yay:
I made a bunch of calls today:
confirmed all DVC reservations
set up Magical Express for our "adopted" daughter's flight home
confirmed pedicure appointment for Friday for my race partner/dear friend & I
confirmed 12 ADRs including our arrival night Chef Mickey's, our rehearsal dinner and all "honeymoon" meals. I was excited to change our Whispering Canyon ADR to one for Artist Point, since Howard and I have always wanted to eat there. Should be lots of fun!
I also finished formatting the menus last night, though I've yet to print them.
Tonight's plan is to work on the programs and the donation announcement. :woohoo:

Thank you, Lisa! You will be fine. You only have to be able to maintain an average 16 minute/mile pace and if you are running at all, you should be able to do that, even if you walk half the miles. I got my last long run in yesterday -- 12 miles -- and it wasn't fast, but it is done. I can't believe the half is 2 weeks from today.
So.. I got a wonderful necklace for Christmas.. and the first thing I thought when I opened it was.. Wow.. this will be perfect to wear to Cam & Howard's VR! :) I am soooo excited!! I can't wait to see you all!! Whoo Hooooooo!!
Kathy -- I can't wait to see it! BTW, did you see the pictures above of Jenn's heart ensemble for the VR? I thought of you when she opened it on Christmas because I know how much you love hearts. Wait til you see it in person!
Well, I was in a panic yesterday because I'd lost my cell phone, which had all the contact information for all our vendors, as well as all our friends. I was completely traumatized at the prospect of sourcing and buying a new phone and re-loading all that information. Thank God, it was found and that is one item I don't have to add to my to-do list. :yay:
Yesterday, I took care of the donation we are doing in lieu of favors and did all the welcome bag labels :woohoo: Next major project is the program, and I am really looking forward to doing that.
I had a dessert party-related nightmare last night and woke up very unsettled. Guests of ours brought their whole travelling party and took up all the seats ( :confused3 ) and everywhere I looked, there were people I didn't recognize, sitting at our tables, eating and laughing and there wasn't enough food or seating for our guests. :sad1: Geez, I am so Italian -- of all the things to worry about, it figures I'd worry that there wasn't enough food or seating. :sad2:

Hi Cam, Right now I don't remember how I found your thread, lol, but I've truly enjoyed following your story! It was so heart-warming to read about how you two met and the years that followed. Congrats on your anniversary and upcoming VR! We will be celebrating our 15th in Feb and will be in WDW the week prior but I have to tell you the VR ceremony and celebration sounds like a dream come true for sure - I'm living vicariously through you on that - so many of your choices I could choose too. Thanks for letting me share in your happiness! Best wishes and blessings

Thank you so much for taking the time to read, and for posting such kind words. Congratulations on your 15 year anniversary! I am so glad you'll be in WDW the week before. It is truly a magical place to celebrate! I hope you'll continue to visit here. It's hard to believe that in just a couple of weeks I'll be able to tell everyone about our ultimate wish come true event! :cloud9:

Kathy -- I am so glad you will be there to share it with us!

Stephanie -- Can't wait to see you in about a week and a half! I'm so happy that our dessert party was a great excuse for a new outfit. For me, too! LOL! We are having an absolutely amazing photographer there and I want to be sure he gets lots of great shots of everyone in all their finery. princess: pirate: LOL! (I think we really need a smilie of a prince. seems unfair that we have princesses but no princes! ;) )
I am so excited to have things moving right along. I finished the drafts of the menus and programs last night and my dear friend, Patty (pjstevens) :flower3: is coming tonight to help me finalize one of those projects so that I can stop panicking. Among the other significant projects left to deal with are arranging transportation back to the airport for 10 of our guests who are leaving right from the reception, doing the welcome letter with transportation instructions for the newbies, and filling out the DJ's questionaire.
In other happy news, I was able to restore my entire ipod music library to our new hard drive, thanks to my dear friend Carrie and her brilliant technology skills.  I lost all the playlists, but I can recreate them by looking at my ipod. I still have to figure out how to edit my music for the bridal entrance and for our cake cutting.
Other than that, I think I am feeling a bit more like things are under control. After all, I have even started making piles of stuff to pack. AND I did my last long run Friday (12 miles) so that my worries about the 1/2 marathon are a bit less overwhelming. :cool1:

WHEW!!!! Thank God Patty came to help last night. I could NOT have figured out the formatting for the programs. Who knew you needed that center blank column to be twice the width of the margins of each of the pages in order to have it look right when folded? LOL! So, the programs and menus are completely printed. The programs need to be scored, folded, and embellished. The menus just need to be be-ribboned.
I also discovered a major ugliness issue with our placecard holders/placecards that I could not have fixed if we'd discovered it in Orlando. I know that no one else would have noticed it, but it would have bugged me. :confused3 So, I am relieved that I was showing that project to Patty and decided to fix it and she was able to help me do that.
I am hoping to get some organizing/packing done tonight while the kids are both at friends' houses for parties. And I also have this weekend to accomplish stuff, since all I have scheduled is a hair appointment.

Thank you, Tammy! It is so hard to believe that this journey started with a phone call to DFTW in November 2007. When I think of everyone I have interacted with at Disney throughout the process, I go into the new year thanking God for the blessing of all those wonderful people who go above and beyond to make dreams come true -- Joe DeMattei, Meri Williamson, Alix Griffin-Arnold, our DJ, the folks at Disney Photography..... And for all those outside vendors who have become experts at dealing with Disney brides - Sue at Carolyn Allen's, Randy & Linda Chapman, Stan and Bonnie at STVS, Ana and Lily at Beaute Speciale. Some of those people have already done their parts to bring us this far. Others will come through for us over the next couple of weeks and some in the weeks and months after our VR. I just can't believe how much fun the process has been, and I know that would not have been the case were it not for these expert magic-makers.

Good point, Lisa. I am a total caffeine freak, but I am going to be sure NOT to drink any at our dessert party Sunday night so that I can sleep (for the approximately 4 hours that I may be in bed!) LOL!
Jenn (DD20) helped me SOOOO much yesterday and we finished the programs. They were a lot of work. Patty helped me to format and print them and cut most of the ribbons. Howard went and bought the scorer for my paper cutter. After I scored them, Jenn folded them and marked where the holes had to be punched for the ribbons. I hole punched and Jenn threaded the ribbons, which I tied in bows. She even went and bought more ribbon for me since I didn't like the thinner ribbon I'd have had to use for the last 5 or 6. She also helped me add the crystal to the front cover. They are so cute!
Next, I cut the menus (they still need to be embellished).
I also made 2 door hangers -- one says "Do Not Disturb Bride-to-be Sleeping" and the other says "Do Not Disturb We are on our Honeymoon" and Jenn decorated them with stickers I bought. It was so much fun to spend the time with her and she said it made her feel really good to be helping and to know Howard and I would have those special things she'd made/helped with even once she'd gone home. What a sweetie! :cutie: She's adorable, saying "Yeah, I'm the MoH" (pronounced "mo").
I'll post pix later.

And here is the second on my list of dresses I can't wait to try:

I think the bottom on the first one looks like a dream. It reminds me of the ocean for some reason (which I love!) and it looks like it would be light and airy to manage. I just can't believe that I found two gowns by the same designer that have the gorgeous sweetheart or portrait neckline and really pretty sleeves. I'd even be willing to break my "no train" guideline to wear the first one. I hope, I hope, I hope it is that beautiful in person and that it looks nice on me.
Who is the designer for this dress? Beautiful.

Of course, if I'd been posting all along, I might not be in a panic right now about whether my dessert party dress and my wedding gown will be so tight that I'll pull an Elizabeth Swann and faint on someone for lack of oxygen. :lmao: Looking forward to getting back in touch!

Thank you so much, Kendra and Vanessa! I have had so much fun working on all of these projects and it is ONLY because of other wonderful Disney brides that I had the inspiration and courage to do any of these projects myself. The ironic thing is that now that we are at a point in our lives where we could have hired someone to coordinate all of this and could have bought invitations, menus, programs, etc. I had the leisure and luxury and PRIVILEGE of making everything for my guests. And so many friends have helped along the way, from those who shared ideas and templates and gave me names of vendors and resources to those who gave me their time and energy, not only to help me formulate and execute, but to make it so darn much fun!!! :grouphug:
So, this is a huge shout-out to everyone who inspired and helped me! :lovestruc :cloud9:

I know you will be having a very busy weekend and I am not sure I will get the opportunity to talk to you personally, but I wanted to take this moment to WISH you and Howard a most magical special day. This year I am running (OK, walking) the full and working the half, so keep your eyes out for me at water stops #1 and 11. Hope to see you on the course!

Go ROCK that course, my dear WISH friend! :cool1: And I will definitely be looking for your smiling face during the half at waterstop 1/11. Don't be offended if I don't take any water, though -- Dasani makes me very ill. But I'll be looking for you!

We were able to pull together a lot of the packing last night, which is good.
But we both "lost" a couple of hours because of a car accident. I was stopped at a red light and the guy in front of me decided he was too far forward and put his car in reverse and hit the gas. Said he never saw me. I cannot believe how much damage there is to my car, probably not driveable at this point and I have no time to deal with it. I'm fine, though, and that is really all that matters. Since it was in the city at about 8:20pm, my immediate thought was that it was a "crime" attempt, since I've heard of fake accidents caused in order to rob the driver of the hit vehicle. It was so surreal to see that SUV coming at me so fast in reverse. It came up onto the hood of my car a bit just because it was so much higher than mine, but we still thought the car was okay until I drove it about 7 miles home and it was smoking and smelled bad -- so, in fact, maybe my radiator is damaged. I just have to figure out when and where I can get it in to be repaired, possibly while we are away, though I just can't imagine adding that to my to-do list.

Thanks, everyone. Turns out his insurance company made a mistake last night confirming coverage and his insurance had lapsed in December. Lovely. Makes it easier for me now that I am only dealing with my insurance company's uninsured motorist coverage and I don't have to deal with another insurer. My car will go in the shop today or tomorrow and hopefully be repaired or well on the way by the time I get back from WDW.
I really appreciate everyone's concern. I am just so relieved that I wasn't hurt and that I saw him backing up, so that I didn't hit my face on the steering wheel. Wouldn't Ana and Lili really have their work cut out for them then? ;)

01-19-2009, 11:24 AM
Thank you, Belinda.
I know my vows sound disjointed and rambling, but I wrote them from my heart and then just couldn't bear to "edit" them -- I have to be so precise in what I say and write as part of my career, that when it came right down to it, I wanted my vows to be as if I was just talking to Howard from my heart, and I just couldn't bring myself to "refine" them from the first draft, so that is what you heard -- "draft vows"! LOL!
And then, at our rehearsal, we didn't even say the vows, but I was sobbing during the exchange of rings wording that I'd written, and I knew there was no way I'd make it through the vows I wrote for Howard. So, during the ceremony, when I started to lose my composure during the vows, I tried to pull myself together and I look so silly in the video taking deep breaths before each line and looking down and then up again.
I'd given Kevin a copy in case I couldn't get through them, so he could have me repeat after him, but when it came right down to it, I really wanted to get through them for Howard's sake. Looking in his eyes while he heard what I wanted to say to him was the most wonderful moment! And we were both so happy (though not surprised) that there were so many similarities in the vows we wrote for each other.
I loved the part where he talked about being together and being apart. Especially today, that is such a poignant memory -- after 11 days together, it is so hard to be apart today. Fortunately, my car is still in the shop after my accident a few days before we left for Orlando, so Howard drove me to work this morning -- I am so glad to have had those extra 20 minutes with him. :cloud9: Yes, I AM that selfish! ;)

O...M...G, Cam!
I just finally got a minute to watch the video! How amazing!
I hope your VR was everything you dreamed of and more.
You looked absolutely amazing, and Howard isn't so shabby himself either. ;)
And I have to say, I usually get really aggravated watching videos from wedding & such. Working in TV, I am pretty picky about such things. So much so, that for our wedding we didn't even hire a videographer because we knew we would hate it (had a friend just take video with our camcorder instead).
That said, they did a wonderful job on your video!
I am very, very impressed!:thumbsup2
I am also very jealous of Mickey dressed in his tux. We had Mickey & Minnie at our reception but dressed in their regular clothing. I really wish we had them in their formal wear - it looks so much better. Oh well!

I've said it before, but it's worth saying again. Magical! You're gorgeous, Howard is handsome, the video made me smile, and--as icing on the cake of your 25 years of happily ever after--you had a VR surrounded by loved ones. (And you got to dance with Mickey.) You deserve all the bliss and blessings in the world. :flower3:

Wow! I don't even know where to start to thank each and every one of you for your kind words.
Our vow renewal day was the culmination of 14 months of planning and more than 24 years of dreaming of "our" wedding. It was beyond even our fondest wishes or most fanciful dreams. Most of that is because of the amazing, generous love of the family and friends who celebrated with us. And a great deal of credit goes to Meri and Alix at DFTW who seemed determined from the very beginning to make our dreams come true. Everywhere we looked, we saw the beautiful details that were the result of our vision and their "can-do" attitudes.
As for the surprise guest at our reception? Very few friends knew he would be there, and even as I waited (and not very patiently) for him to arrive, my heart was going pitter patter (in a good way), knowing that my main mouse woud be there. It was one of two discretionary cost-type items that we thought about and re-thought about (the other being the WISHES soundtrack for our dessert party), and let me tell you - having Mickey at the reception was an awesome, awesome decision! I'll tell you more about that later, when I get to that part of my TR (it's coming, it's coming, I promise! ;) ), but here is my reaction when he came in:
http://gi85.photobucket.com/groups/k70/DE41H6OL96/100_5012.jpg
Everyone else was watching Mickey; my dear friend Patty knows me well enough to have been watching me and to catch my reaction.
And here is just a sample of the wonderful memories we all made:

http://gi85.photobucket.com/groups/k70/DE41H6OL96/January2009133.jpg
And as I watched our guests dance with him, my dear friend Rhonda shared my joy:
http://gi85.photobucket.com/groups/k70/DE41H6OL96/100_5034.jpg
Yes, Mickey ROCKED the dance floor and then posed for pictures and took the time to make my heart sing:

Your bouquet is gorgeous! What kind of flowers did you have in there?
Thank you, Catherine! My bouquet was baby & spray roses in pale pink and pale yellow and fuschia baby calla lilies, stephanotis & just a bit of green hydrangea. It smelled heavenly and was just so beautiful to have in my hands. My flowers for our original wedding had been white & ivory silk roses on a plastic spanish fan covered in lace with lace ribbon -- really just not my style and I LOVE real flowers. Laura Kidd outdid herself with this bouquet which was prettier than I imagined. Oh, and it had swarovski crystals and swarovski crystal hidden mickeys in the stephanotis and throughout the bouquet, as well as swarovski stars in the bouquet and hanging from the bottom of the ribbon around the stems (the crystals were sewn on). It carried through our wishes/"all of our wishes have come true" theme and was reminiscent of the gorgeous custom-made star jewelry I wore the night before. I know I'm gushing. I can't help it. It was sooo pretty! :goodvibes

You are so sweet! I'm glad you enjoyed my journal. It has been so much fun to "connect" with so many wonderful DISers here. Everyone has made me feel so comfortable and it was so nice to share the whole planning process. I love to hear that others use 1-4-3 as a code, too. Another friend here told me she and her DH used it when they had beepers. I think that is so cool.

You would never have known how many miles everyone covered or how little sleep everyone had gotten - they were all gorgeous and energetic! :grouphug:
BTW, I was trying to figure out a way to move the Monday morning meet to Gasparilla's so we could have seen everyone but felt that would have been way beyond egocentric and outrageously selfish of me. LOL!!

I am so sorry for the delay, but I finally have the first couple of "pieces" of our trip report.
The first thing you need to know is the Cast of Characters:
OUR TRAVEL PARTY:
Me: Cam (or Carmella)
DH: Howard
DD20: Jenn
DS15: Andrew
Adrienne or Ade: Jenn’s BFF (since before they were 2), is like an adopted daughter to us
OTHERS WHOSE NAMES YOU’LL BE HEARING A LOT FROM THE BEGINNING
Jason: My BFF (we’ve known each other since I was born)
Helen, Donna & Miguel: Howard’s Mom, Sister & Brother-in-Law
WISH team: Our friends from the DIS WISH boards, with whom we internet train for endurance events; we meet up whenever any of us can get to races at the same time
The “Minnie Girls” – Me and a group of 6 of my girlfriends (Carrie, Heather, Judy, Lily, Martha & Rhonda) from the WISH team; we named ourselves after we started our tradition of going to WDW together the first weekend in May to do the Minnie 15k race
Kathy – a dear friend (originally known from the WISH team) who has been involved in the planning of the VR and has worked on MANY of the crafts and went gown shopping with me, etc. She is a professional performer with an amazing voice, great dance talent, and amazing photography skills.
[You'll "meet" all of our other fabulous friends and family as we go along :grouphug: ]

PART 1 -- DAY 1 – THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 2009 (THE JOURNEY TO WDW RESORT)
We knew our schedule for Thursday would be pretty exhausting, but we also knew it would be fun, so we woke up at 3:30 a.m. excited to be heading to Disney. We were on our way to the airport by about 4 a.m. and Howard dropped me and the kids off at the SWA curbside check in. We were checking 9 pieces between the 5 of us. Each of us also had a carry-on suitcase and another small bag (backpacks for the kids; Howard had all his running gear and mine in his carry-on; I had the cake topper, our Precious Moments figurine & the placecard holders, along with some other “precious” cargo, like our Guest Book – Howard also had the laptop and our ipod speakers and all electronics gear in his backpack and I had a tote with all the vital paperwork and all jewelry). By the time Howard returned from parking the car, I’d decided I had to wear my Mickey-ized Tokyo DL wedding ears. We got so many congratulations!
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0304.jpg
At the airport, we sent the kids off to get breakfast and then Howard and I headed to the Dunkin Donuts for our breakfast. Everywhere we went, we were greeting with very kind “Congratulations” and often had the opportunity to tell people about our Vow Renewal.
Here are my "girls" at the airport:
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/jennpic--108--jennandade.jpg
On the plane, the flight attendants had the whole plane applaud for our 24+ years of marriage and re-tying the knot, and told us we could order mimosa’s on the crew. When it came time to order beverages, Howard ordered juice and I ordered water. Later, a flight attendant asked “do you drink champagne at all?” and when we said yes, they presented us with a wonderful bottle of champagne with the best wishes of the crew!
Soon after takeoff, 2 of our 3 “children” were asleep. I'm not sure whether or how much Howard and I might have dozed.
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0305.jpg http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0306.jpg
I did manage to finish up my thank you notes on the plane, except for the one for our planner, Meri, and her assistant, Alix -- every time I wrote a thank you, I was getting so choked up that I had to do them in small groupings, and I knew I wanted Meri's to be really special.
So, the first part of the agenda was to arrive MCO, pick up the rental van, and shop at Costco, Target and Publix
Soon, we were on the airport monorail heading to our recently-rented minivan (when we realized there’d be the 5 of us and a ton of luggage, we changed our full-size car reservation to a minivan.). As soon as we were off the plane, Howard donned his ears:
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0307.jpg
Once the van was loaded, we were off to Costco, Target and Publix, where we bought lots of bottled water, food and drinks for the weekend, lasagna making supplies (more on that later), and last minute munchies for the gift bags.
NEXT UP: Reunions and our quest to spoil our guests!

THURSDAY – PART 2 – SHOPPING, STORING & SCHLEPPING
(this will be kind of long and boring – sorry! Necessary background info! :sad2: )
So, after shopping in 3 different stores, we had lots of refrigerator groceries and a studio-sized fridge, so we met our friend, Craig at the Hess station, had him climb into the van, and headed over to the Boardwalk, where he and Howard schlepped our fridge groceries to Craig’s villa for storage until Friday.
Next, we headed over to the marathon expo. Yes, before we could get to the Vow Renewal or any wedding-related activities, there was the small matter of a 5k, half-marathon, full-marathon, and 6.5 hours of volunteering to get through. So, we drove to Disney’s Wide World of Sports. Howard went off to Runner Relations to try to get his corral assignments changed, and I took Jenn, Ade & Andrew to handle all the other registration issues. Here is what we accomplished:
checked Andrew in for 5k
checked Ade & Jenn & Cam in for half-marathon
checked my aunt in for the half-marathon (she couldn’t run, but I wanted her to get her race bag and all the goodies)
checked my uncle in for the half-marathon (same story)
tested Cam’s and Howard’s champion chip (the device that tracks your start, finish, and intermittent splits during an endurance event – we own our own and have to test them at each event to make sure they are correctly read by the timing mats)
checked my friend Jessica in for the Goofy (she was arriving late Friday night)
took all the registrations and went to the tee-shirt/goodie bag pickup, where we picked up tee shirts/bags for me, Jenn, Ade, Andrew, my aunt, my uncle, and my friend
Then, we were walking to another building to register me for my volunteer position for the full marathon and we almost walked right past our friend, Kathy. There were hugs and some tears, and then we all traipsed off to volunteer registration
Somewhere in there, we also went through the Expo, but my feet hurt so badly and the crowds were insane, so we bought me a pair of crocs flip-flops and got out of there as quickly as possible. I told Jenn and Ade that when they finished the half-marathon, I’d treat them to “I DID IT” tee shirts (this is important for later).
We eventually abandoned Kathy and headed to BCV to check-in, knowing she was coming over soon to help us put together welcome bags.
The CMs at the front desk of the Beach Club were darlings and very eager to help us get to a ready villa as soon as possible. I left the front desk with a gorgeous pink rose to match my ears. :flower3:
After arriving in our villa, our bags arrived pretty quickly, as did our 2 Owners’ Lockers (JUST WAIT until I tell you how awesome these were!!!).
Side story: there is a business in the Orlando area called Owners Locker that I think originally catered primarily to timeshare owners. Essentially, you pay a membership fee and are given a huge purple storage container. You manage your membership on-line, you input your arrival date and resort and when you arrive, your locker is there. You also input your departure date and resort, and when you are ready to leave, you seal the box (with serial numbered cables they give you) and leave your locker with Bell Services; the guys from OL pick up your locker from Bell Services and return it to their storage facility until your next trip. In between, it is stored in a temperature controlled storage facility.
Before I went to Orlando in May for a girls’ weekend, Howard and I joined Owners’ Locker. I took a suitcase full of wedding supplies (mostly welcome bag gifts/favors) and stored them in the Owners’ Locker. When I went down again in September, I realized I could take another load of wedding stuff down and put it in a second locker. I think OL is the most amazing resource for Disney Brides – I figure almost everyone goes down for a planning session, and it would be a great opportunity to put into storage anything you KNOW you’ll need for the wedding, but not in-between -- just do like I did and take pix of everything you are putting in. I also kept one sample of every item for the welcome bags that I stored, so that I could visualize and create a sample of what our welcome bags would look like, even while the stuff was in storage and I didn’t have to cart it all to Orlando or ship it when we travelled down for the wedding.
So, once the Owners' Lockers were delivered and all the non-refrigerator groceries were schlepped to our villa, the kids immediately put the pre-prepared personalized labels on water bottles, Howard put the Do Not Disturb signs in the welcome folders, and we set up an assembly line for the Welcome Bags (we made 20, one of which I’ll send to my Aunt and Uncle who couldn’t make it to Orlando).
(Warning -- I’m doing a LOT of detail and pictures here about the welcome bags in case it helps any future Disney Brides)
The guests’ welcome bags were gym sacks and they included:
Folder with:
marked up Grand Floridian map (I used a heart to mark the WP, a tinkerbell to mark our WISHES dessert party location, and a star to mark the Whitehall patio and ballroom)
Maps for MK, EPCOT, DHS, DAK and DTD
Pre-addressed, stamped postcard to me & Howard w/a note asking our guests to fill out the postcard with their happiest memory and to mail it to us

A thank-you notecard with a heart made of plantable wildflower paper
A personalized do not disturb sign
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/DSC02791.jpg
A welcome letter with our itinerary & all cell phone numbers, wedding itinerary & WDW transportation instructions & driving directions for those with cars.
One other really smart thing we were able to do because of the generosity of a bunch of friends, was to include cell numbers of our “on-site help desk” – that is, two friends who are Disney experts who people could call with questions if they couldn’t reach us, or if our guests didn’t want to bother us – many friends offered up their cell numbers to help our guests this way, which I thought was absolutely AWESOME!!! :grouphug:
Each folder was decorated with a welcome sticker on the front and personalized with guest-specific Disney/Pixar stickers, too. Andrew had a GREAT time helping me decorate each folder from the PILE of stickers I gave him (along with instructions as to who got which themes of stickers.)
2 nutri-grain bars
1 or 2 personalized bottles of water
1 bag of mickey pretzels
Plastic heart filled with hugs & kisses & other chocolates

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/DSC02228.jpg
The gym sacks were tied shut with a tag that suited that person (either based on what marathon weekend race they were doing, or a character they liked)
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/DSC02766.jpg
and the gym sack was then put in a pink shopping bag that was tied shut, and had this on the outside:
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/DSC02742.jpg
Each shopping bag had a Mickey hang tag with the recipient(s)’ name, resort, arrival date and reservation number

While the kids worked on the welcome bags, Kathy worked on the vase that was to hold the programs. Kathy helped come up with a great solution when the programs didn’t fit in the vase (I’d originally pictured them as 4.25x5.5 single layer cardstock but ended up making little “booklets” so that I could include our theme verse on the front cover and more information on the inside); we also started configuring the placecard holders.

THURSDAY – PART 3 – DINNER WITH MY FAVORITE MOUSE and DRINKS WITH MY FAVORITE FROG!
So, when I left you, I alluded to my program/vase issue. ;) I learned a LOT about myself when my first “project failure” occurred. Originally, I thought I’d do a single sheet cardstock “program” and they’d stand in this gorgeous rectangular vase we’d found with a huge pink fluffy bow tied around it. Well, when we unpacked the vase from the Owners Locker and put the programs in it, about 3 “fit”. LOL! AND, I didn’t have enough beads for the shorter programs to now stick out of the top, as I’d envisioned. :sad1: Kathy (fondly known now as “the problem solver”) came up with a plan -- one or two programs in the vase as a display and the others fanned out on the table in front (this also meant, as we found out after rehearsal, that the programs couldn’t go on the marble ledge that they were supposed to be on – UGH!)
I cannot believe that I said to Kathy “whatever you can come up with will be fine. Thank you so much for dealing with that for me.” :flower3: Totally NOT my typical, compulsive self. I have a hard time giving up "control" to someone, but hey, this was "KATHY"!!! I was so grateful for the help and her beautiful solution (which required the creative use of bubble wrap, to “plump up” the beads a bit -- geez, I wish she'd suggested that when the bodice of my gown was too loose on wedding day!! :lmao: ). Her quick solution ended up looking like this:
http://gi85.photobucket.com/groups/k70/DE41H6OL96/100_4905.jpg
Gorgeous, right? :thumbsup2
Soon, we were off to Chef Mickey’s which our kids understand is our traditional “Must see Mom’s favorite Mouse” quest even if we can’t get to the parks on our first day at WDW. We had an absolute blast!
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0316.jpg
We had a pre-“wedding” celebration with Mickey:
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0321.jpg
We are the “Donald” girls – in 2 days, we’d be on a quest for a Donald (half-marathon) medal!
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0327.jpg
Kathy and Mickey:
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0325.jpg
After our wonderful dinner, Kathy dropped Jenn and Ade back at her room to sleep. She’d very generously decided that I needed a good night’s sleep and since Howard and Andrew would be up around 4 a.m. to go do the 5k, the girls would stay at Kathy’s room and I’d sleep in. WOOHOO!!!
Kathy also took on the task of delivering all of the Welcome Bags for our POP Century guests to the front desk there, to save Howard and me a trip. Howard and I took bags to Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian, and Saratoga Springs. Since we were headed to Jellyrolls, we had all the Boardwalk bags with us as well, and Howard was able to hand them to our friends who met us at JR.
When we got to JR, we met up with our dear friends Kevin (our officiant) and Kristen, whom we hadn’t seen since January 2008. Kevin is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army and is “away” a lot – we keep him and his family in our prayers constantly. They are precious to us and I cried when we saw them.
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0333.jpg
I hadn’t seen Lily, Martha and Rhonda in AGES and it was so great to have four of the “Minnie Girls” together again, even if we were missing Heather, Judy & Carrie terribly.
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii221/keenercam/marathon%20weekend/IMG_0334.jpg
Soon after arriving, Howard requested “Rainbow Connection” for me – my favorite JR song. Back story: when we were first married, Howard drove an Audi Fox that had an 8 track player. He made many trips between Easton PA (my campus) and his hometown (over 320 miles) and the Muppets 8-track kept him company on those long drives. We always loved “Rainbow Connection”:
Who said that every wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far!
What's so amazing
That keeps us star gazing?
And, what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it,
That Rainbow Connection,
The lovers the dreamers and me
Perfect, huh?
Anyway, one of the very talented performers at JRs does a phenomenal rendition, including singing in a Kermit voice, and then picking up a short dowel (stick) and holding it between his hands and acting like Kermit the puppet. I LOVE Kermit (hey, why don't we have a Kermit smilie?) Totally awesome!! It was such a fun evening!!
We left around 10:45 and were so grateful to climb in to bed. I feared the 4:00 a.m. wakeup call would come all too soon and we’d all sleep through it.

Judy told me you had put up another installment!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Slight addition:
Upon my arrival to Orlando, I picked up my rental car and called Cam & Howard to see where they were as I had promised to come and help with the welcome bags... she told me they were heading over to the WWOS to get their race stuff and then would be heading over to check in at the hotel. I told her that I would check into my hotel and then meet them at theirs... Little did they know I was plotting my surprise.... I drove directly to WWOS instead.. and planted myself on a bench right outside of the area where the volunteers were checking in.. knowing that they would be heading that way eventually... and sure enough soon I spied bride ears heading my way... I thought for sure one of the kids would spot me.. but NOOOOO... They almost walked right past me.. until I said.. "Cute ears.. you guys getting hitched?" and they all looked in my direction.. it took them all a minute to realize it was me.. and then the aforementioned tears, hugs and registration occurred.. LOL!!... and .... Ummm..Cam.... you didn't ABANDON me... I left you to go register for the 1/2 myself after picking up our volunteer registrations...LOL!!!
AND Cam was sooooo organized.. and well prepared for this momentous event... It was an honor to be included!!! :) I only helped when needed.. I don't deserved any accolades.. I was pleased to be at your service :)
I don't know how you are remembering everything Cam.. since you had soooo much to think about.. and of course being distracted by that gorgeous husband of yours!!! :thumbsup2 :p
Looking forward to the rest of the trip.. cause I get to relive one of the best weekends of my life!!!!!!

I love Kermit too. I'm a big Muppet's fan. I love that song too. I thought we had a Kermit smilie but that's another site I belong too.
I am loving the TR so much already and I can only imagine how much exciting it gets. I do have a question about the marathons for you. I want to start running myself because that's a huge goal I have set for myself is to run in the WDW marathon. Can anyone do the 5k? I figure maybe I would start with that one first and work my way up to the 1/2 marathon. I bought the book you had suggested for me to get "marathons for mortal" I finishing a book now and then thats my next one.

Laura -- Absolutely anyone can do the Disney 5k if they register. I know there were a lot of people who walked it this year. I think registration filled up really quickly last year, though, so you might want to register soon. You may also like "No Need for Speed" and "The Courage to Start", both by John Bingham. Good luck! It is an awesome feeling to earn one of those fab Disney medals!
