Welcome to week 15!! WOW! Only one week left!

Sorry simpilotswife (Kimberly) that the new weekly thread wasn't started for you. You are certainly an early bird today.

Today is weigh in day. When reporting your weight for the week please include the exact number XXX pounds, you may add your weekly change if you would like (I lost/gained XX pounds this week).

Keep exercising. The weekly team challenge runs until midnight tonight. Please report your total points to me by Thursday at 3 PM. If you are late PM anyway, I will use your numbers if I can.

SparkPeople's daily tip for healthier holidays

Enjoy a pre-party snack. If you arrive famished, you're more likely to devour too much of the wrong things. Try a combination of fiber, protein and healthy fats for more filling power.

Red Team question of the day

Tell about your holiday decorations. Any lights outside?

Me first. Since DH is an electrical contractor you would think I would have a lovely holiday light display. Nope, not here. The last time we had lights outside the boys were in charge. They enjoyed climbing on the roof. I am not a decorator. Nothing up here at all. We are going away for the holidays so we will not be putting up a tree. It was all so fun when the kids were here but with the two of us it's why bother? Some times I just feel like Scrooge. After decluttering with DS I am still finishing arranging the living room. Eventually I would like to set up our Nativity on a coffee table that needs to be moved first.

So Red Team how are you doing? Did you have a successful week? What are your plans to make this last week the best one yet? We are finishing up this part of our journey together. I have enjoyed our time together and hope this last week is great for us all.

Have a healthy day!

i thought i'd say good morning before i left for the gym.

we don't have lights anywhere outside here, since we live in an apartment. the most i do is decorate inside. i put our christmas tree up the day i got back from thanksgiving. i've been able to enjoy it for a couple of weeks so far and i love feeling christmasy.

i have a big exam on monday (our last one of the semester). i'm nervous, but i think i'll do alright. this entire week is devoted to studying. i already told my boss that i won't be coming into lab this week too much.

Hey all,

I had a good weigh in this week, thank goodness.

For our holiday decorations we just put up the tree and have a few things around the house. The ornaments are slowly moving up the tree though because my 1 year old keeps pulling the ornaments off, so now about the lower quarter of the tree is now bare.

Hi, sorry I haven't been around much this past week. It's been pretty busy for me. I just found the weekly challenge thread, so I'm hoping to contribute some points. I took the exercise personality quiz and it said:

Your Personality Type: ORGANIZED
You feel best when life is orderly. You're punctual, dutiful, and once you agree to something, you're likely to follow through. You like rules and routine.

Your Exercise Rx:
Result-oriented workouts. You like a schedule. It's no problem for you to set aside a block of time each day for exercise or even to stick with an activity that's repetitious. But to keep your interest, you need feedback. That's why cardio machines, which let you methodically monitor your progress, might be just the ticket. If you prefer the outdoor versions of repetitive sports, keep a fitness log to monitor your progress.

I think it sounds really accurate. I love to run and I have no problem sticking to a scheduled exercise routine. In fact, I plan my exercise out the week in advance and get aggravated if I have to change it around.

Anyways, I hope everyone else is having a good week. I love to decorate for Christmas inside. Not so much outside w/ a ton of lights. That's too much work. :santa:

Brenda, I have to wake the kiddoes at 6:00 so I'm usually on early.

Our outside decorations are up but we might add some more this weekend. We use net lights on our bushes and one of those spiral Christmas trees but it is multi-colored and flashes which makes it different which I like. We also have a Santa made out of lights that waves.

We have a new decoration this year, it is a snowman made out of pretty garland that lights up. It was a pain to put together but it looks really nice and no one else has one yet.

We have an inflatable Pooh and friends decoration but we didn't put that up yet. That is what might go up this weekend.

Hey, where *IS* everybody?

For decorations... Outside, we have a inflatable snowglobe up that blows around 'snow' within the globe. It has a snowman and a Santa in it. We also have an inflatable Mickey & Minnie driving a red car. And some LED lights on some of the bushes in front. Inside, the tree is up and deocrated and lit.

But I hate taking Christmas decorations down...ugh.*So* upsetting to put all that stuff away.

Yes, I am late today checking in. Thanks to those that have visited our thread today. Oh wait a minute that would be NO ONE, they were all here yesterday. (OOPs agnes! checked in while I was composing - Good to see you agnes!). I am missing my red team peeps. I had 11 people not checking in this week and I miss them. I usually send pesky reminder PMs but did not this week. Should I, do they even care about hearing from me?

I have send our weekly numbers to the other team captains. We had another miserable week with the weekly challenge. I got numbers from 3 people. I also looked on our thread and counted the 5 points from each of 5 team members who took the quiz but did not report in to me. If anyone has weights or challenge point totals go ahead and PM me. I will use the numbers if I can.

SparkPeople's daily tip for healthier holidays

Wash your hands. The holiday season coincides with cold and flu season. Keep germs at bay by washing your hands well after shopping, visiting and more. No one wants sickness to interfere with their fun!

Well that sure is good information but not too healthy eating related. Let's look at the tip for December 1st.

Take inventory. Identify all the situations (office parties, mall food courts, family gatherings) that make it difficult for you to eat healthy during the holiday season. Make a plan for staying on track in every situation.

That's better. I have not done well with the holiday gatherings I have attended so far but I have one more on the 21st. I will work on a game plan for that night. We will also be taking a road trip for the holidays and I have a very difficult time eating healthy while traveling. I will also have to work on a game plan for that occasion also.

Red Team question of the day

What did you do today that you are proud of?

Me first. I am a terrible procrastinator. Recently I have decided that I do this to torture myself with guilt. My mind sometimes just doesn't function normally and I know I do things to hurt myself and procrastinating is definitely a big problem for me. Well today I turned in some Scout registration forms that I have held onto for at least 6 weeks. Registration forms should be turned in immediately but I am a procrastinator. Some of these poor boys earned awards that could not be given to them because they are not officially registered yet. I made a promise to myself that I will now forward all registration forms within one week after receiving them. I will publicly make this declaration to several scout buddies so they can help keep me in line.

My other great accomplishment today was that I made a list of the serious things that I have been putting off. The list doesn't look as bad as I thought it would and I know if I work on it every day I can get everything done so I will not constantly worry about it anymore. There are only 9 projects that will keep me busy for awhile but I will feel so wonderful when they are done.

What have you done today Red Team that is wonderful? It certainly doesn't have to be earth shattering, just something that you are excited about. Come on and toot your own horn, tell us what you have been up to.

Have a healthy day!

Thank you agnes! for trying to keep me straight.

Attention Red Team

Your weekly team challenge point totals are due to me by 3 PM tomorrow on Thursday. The challenge runs through midnight tonight. Please PM me because every point counts.

I apologize for the confusion. I am often very confused. I also apologize for being a whiner. I appreciate all those who contribute to our Red Team, no matter what their contribution is. All team members are valuable.

Now I am off to contact the team captains and let them know my numbers will change. I think I will also PM my MIA team members to let them know they are missed.

QOTD: I am coming down with a stomach bug and feel awful, but I completed my 9 mile run this morning. I did it on the treadmill and after every mile I convinced myself to keep going and I completed the run, so that is what I am proud of. I got nothing else accomplished today but laying around, but I did finish my run.

I slept well and feel fabulous this morning. I even made breakfast for DH. I am a sweetheart. I think making my list of projects I have put off has really helped me. I have hope that I will accomplish some things today. Now if only I can get my eating under control. Today I will open the new bag of salad mix and have 2 salads. I am feeling confident so I will have also add 3 F & V to get my 5 for today. I will also exercise. For me lately this is ambitious but I know I can do it.

SparkPeople's daily tip for healthier holidays

Shop when full. Shopping on an empty stomach can lead to overeating on the unhealthy food court fare. Also stash some emergency healthy snacks in your car or purse. Try nuts, whole grain crackers, and dried fruit.

Red Team question of the day

Do you or any family members wear crocs? Are they really all that?

Me first. No crocs for me. DSs new wife has some that I tried on one day. They seemed comfortable enough. I just can't get over paying $30 for a pair of plastic shoes.

How are you doing today Red Team? How goes your journey? Stop in and say hi if you can.

Have a healthy day!

agnes!

QOTD - Crocs do not work on my feet. *Really*. When I have tried them on in the stores, I walk right out of them.

Some things about my week...
DD has run into a little bit of an issue with a teacher (and in a subject) she really likes. It has not been a good week for her in that regard, plus it's made her a bit distracted with homework for some other classes, etc. and *that* has also been distressing to her.
*BUT* she was thrilled when she did well in her mile-run for gym class yesterday. (They have to do a mile run every so often - it's a fitness-testing thing.) Ever since her last class run, when she felt she didn't do so well, she has been running the entire time during regular class warmups, rather than walking and talking like many/most of her friends, trying to get a better time.
WOW, she took almost 2 minutes off of her last total and some of her friends noticed. She said she wasn't even out of breath!

I walk with my DH every morning when we can. It's nice to chat and get to visit :teeth:. Oh, PHOOEY...it just started raining and now we won't go. And I'm actually disappointed...that's a switch.

i have one pair of crocs, the mary janes. i like the way they fit better than the regular clog style, but i can't wear them for too long or i get severe pains in my pinkie toe. i'm not sure why?? :confused3

i bought a pair for my boyfriend so he could wear to hockey, because i figured that his feet could use a break after wearing skates for an hour or so, but he told me that he thinks they are ugly and refuses to wear them. it's not about the comfort factor for him just yet in his life. i'm hoping he'll get over it sometime and put the darn things on and make his feet feel good.

QOTD--I have 2 pairs of Mary Jane Crocs. I love them. I needed more support than my flip flops this summer because my feet hurt after runs, so these seemed to do the job. And I walked around Disney for a week and got no blisters so they did the job.

Snow is coming today, yuck. Today should have been an easy day and now school is getting released early. Fun stuff.

QOTD

DD started it all out in my house with Crocs. I swore I would never wear them, ugly as sin, too expensive...then I wore them :rotfl: DD's own 4 pair between them. I have 2 pair good and 1 bang around that are not so clean looking. I LOVE THEM and am proud to say that. I can wear these babies all over WDW with no blisters and my knees are not as painful as they normal are. :confused3

Answering the challenge this week.

Q 4. Holiday tradtion.

Ever since I can recall we had gone to Grammy and Grampy's Christmas Eve and had a lot of traditional Swedish and American foods. I do my own Christmas Eve now but I still serve some of what I grew up on: Swedish meatballs, scalloped potatoes, swedish bread, bond ost, medvurst, deli ham, crisp bread, spritz, coffee ring, cranberry bread. I bake my cranberry bread with my Gram's recipe using her pans from Sweden, and laying them out to cool on her linen dish towels. I make my own Swedish meatballs, did that last weekend in fact, they are safely in my freezer. I love the smells. Christmas morning when I get up I I butter a piece of bread add in a nice slice of bond ost (cheese), a piece of ham, and a piece of medvurst (thuringer). It makes my whole morning. I wait for that one treat every year!:goodvibes I also light up my Swedish Angel Chime and watch it go around from the heat of the candles, I love the sound. Makes me feel so warm and fuzzy. About 15 years ago I decided to reclaim my Christmas and began purchasing blow molds for outdoors. It all started with 1 santa that a man from church who was retired at the time and working at Sears sold me. I recall him laughing and saying it only takes 1 to get you hooked! John died several years ago and my yard has grown. It takes us several weekends to get everything up and hooked up and we turn it on Thanksgiving evening. So I have some old tradtions as well as some newly created ones for my DCherubs to carry on. :goodvibes

I have several pairs of Crocs actually. I have 3 pairs of the flip flops, 2 pairs of the regular ones and one pair of the mammoth ones. Their flip flops give a lot of support once I got past the price tag. Now I don't mind spending the money. The mammoth ones are really nice right now.

One holiday tradition that I follow is that I make potato salad using my mom's recipe and bowl.

Happy Friday Red Losers!! Do you have exciting weekend plans? What ever you do stay on track with your healthy lifestyle. Our last weigh in is on Tuesday.

I exercised and had my 5 F&V yesterday. YIPEE!! I also worked on some of those projects I have put off. One involved picking up some trash in our back yard. As I approached the deck to gather more trash I stepped in the sink hole in the back yard. I knew it was there but just forgot about it. I fell flat on my face. I got leaves and dirt in my mouth. As a morbidly obese woman getting up from sitting on the ground is quite an ordeal. Rain was supposedly coming and I imagined getting soaking wet and still being stuck when DH got home from work. I finally managed to get myself up. Later in the day as I thought about this mishap I realized that if I had fallen about 6 inches closer to the deck I would have wacked my head on the deck and I could have killed myself. (Yes I am a drama queen). I mentioned this to DH and he said he was glad that did not happen because that is not the kind of thing he would like to see when he gets home from work. He said he would be very upset to find me dead like that. I was very touched that he would say that, I guess he does love me after all.

SparkPeople's daily tip for healthier holidays

Sweat more. Some research shows that adding just 10 more minutes of intense exercise to your usual workout can stave off holiday weight gain.

Red Team question of the day

To rack up some points for our weekly team challenge share a family holiday tradition.

Thanks to winniedapooh (Michelle) who had already shared. So I am not first this time. My father passed away before Christmas in 1995 after a year long battle with cancer. I miss him dearly. Remembering his Christmas gifts to my mother always makes me smile. Mom did all the Christmas shopping for me and my two younger sisters. Dad was never a big gift giver. Every Christmas Eve he would go to the local drug store, or another nearby store to purchase a 'special' gift for Mom. Some years there was more than one gift, some times there was just one. Every year, these gifts did not have a tag but we all knew by the way that it was wrapped that is was for Mom from Dad. The gifts always appeared under the tree Christmas morning. They were always in the brown paper bag used at the store where it was purchased with the top of the bag folded down and crumpled tight so no one could peek inside. The gifts were usually a box of candy or perfume or another 'special' trinket. Looking back I am grateful to a man who took time to get something 'special' for the woman he loved. His gift giving may not have been as planned out or as meaningful as others but it was from his heart and given in a manner that was consistent with his character. I love you and miss you Daddy.

I have another DH and kids story that I will share sometime this weekend so stay tuned.

So share away Red Team. I am looking forward to hearing about your holiday traditions.

Have a healthy day!

I have mentioned my daily emails from sparkpeople.com. Here is today's Healthy Refection. Much to think about. This busy time of year please take a time to stop and smell the roses and appreciate all the beauty and wonder that surrounds us everyday.

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is.

- Albert Einstein, physicist

Seeing the wonder in the smallest details

What do you appreciate and what do you ignore? Is a sunrise any less special because its image wouldn't make it on a magazine cover? Is any day less precious because, in your mind, "nothing special" happened? For some reason, it's hard to be impressed with anything these days. Driving a car is a source of strain instead of wonder. The internet is already old news. Quick--when was the last time you paid attention to a space shuttle flight? Remember when that was all people could talk about? Once you take something for granted, you also take the life out of it. When nothing is "special," boredom and gloom aren't far behind. Look around where you're sitting right now, and try to see it for the first time, like a child would. Think about the human potential that created the stuff in the room. Think about the miracles of nature right outside your window. Think about how amazing it is that you're even here to see it.

Thanks Red Team for sharing this amazing 15 week adventure with me. You have all touched me and inspired me in many ways. It has been a privilege to be a member of the WISH Biggest Loser Challenge Red Team with you all. Family tradition:

First, let me explain that I was a lucky little girl. I am the oldest granchild on my mother's side and I had a living great-great grandmother, as well as both sets of great grandparents AND my wonderful grandparents. I also had my paternal grandmother. This abundance of grandparents explains why I needed nicknames to keep all of them straight as a young child. My Christmas tradition revolves around the memories of my granfather's mother, known to one and all by my special name for her "Cookie Grandma".

This amazing woman walked with a cane because she had lost a leg in an accident long before I was born, cared for a bed-ridden husband at home until his death, was an avid quilter (all of us have many, many beautiful quilts that she made), made the best apple pies in the WORLD, AND she made the most beautiful, hand-painted sugar cookies for every holiday. Her Santa cookies had raisins for eyes, painted rosy cheeks, a red sugar-crystal encrusted hat, and a coconut beard. Each one was a mini work of art. There were also angel cookies, reindeer cookies, stars, etc. She made hundreds of cookies every year for friends and family for Christmas (and don't even get me started on the Easter baskets she made!)

Cookie Grandma has been gone for nearly 15 years now and we still miss her.

Anyway, my sister was lucky enough to inherit the famous cookie cutters so for the past several years we get together with my cousins and have a big cookie decorating party in honor of "Cookie Grandma". Our cookies aren't nearly as pretty, but we have a great time and relive part of our childhood. :santa:

SparkPeople's daily tip for healthier holidays

Bring a healthy dish. When attending a party cook a healthy low-cal dish to share. This way you'll have at least one healthy option when you're there.

mom2alix (Rebecca) thanks for sharing your Christmas tradition. How blessed you are to have had a 'Cookie Grandma'. Your 'Cookie Grandma' party sounds like so much fun. I would love to have such an experience with my sisters and cousins.

maryliz welcome home! I do have a note on my weigh in spreadsheet that you were in WDW last week. You mentioned it in you last weigh in PM on December 4. I bet WDW was gorgeous all decorated for the holidays. Please share a little bit about your adventure when you can. Good luck getting back on track with your healthy habits especially with birthday celebrations this weekend. Just take those baby steps and do your best.

I am still working on my baby steps. DH and I went out to dinner tonight. I only had one roll (He had FOUR!). After he only ate half of his naked (undressed) salad I ate the other half and just picked at my entree. I bought half of it home to enjoy tomorrow. I was famished before the meal but did not stuff myself silly. This is a good thing. I am hungry now and will have some fruit before bed.

Sweet dreams Red Team!

This would be no biggie to many of you, but I found out last night that extended family (as in parental types and sibling-types) is coming to my house for a short visit on Wednesday. The house is a mess, compounded with holidays & our post-travelling junk, etc. I have *no* time today to try to clean, I have *no* idea where to start. *And* I will be picking one of them up at the airport around 1:30 or so on Wednesday. There is so much other stuff going on and I hardly *ever* entertain at all...

And I can't cry because of the stuff I have to be at *today*, that has nothing to do with the visit or with anything else going on around here.

This is such a disaster on so many levels.
