I'm glad you started this thread! We're dying to tie in a trip to that campground with a trip down to the Fort! We have never been there--just started camping this fall! But I'm interested in how far away it is from Disney! We met someone at the Fort this Thanksgiving, who was from Destin, and I think she said it was either 5 or 7 hours away. I can't remember.:confused3

Check it out on RVparkreviews.com. Very good resource!

We've driven thru this campground a few years ago when staying at a condo in Santa Rosa. You can actually camp beachfront, but the sites are VERY tight and there is no shade. If you camp farther back from the beach there is some shade and the sites have a bit more room.

I'd recommend Topsail campground. VERY NICE! You are not right on the beach, but don't have to cross any major roads to get there. You can ride your bike up to the boardwalk.

We have stayed at Topsail Hill State Park twice so far. Once for an Airstream Rally last January and over Labor Day Weekend and will be going back for another Airstream Rally this January. I second the recommendation for Topsail. There is a trolley that can take you to the beach, but the 100 loop is the most beautiful campground we have stayed in. It is rated one of the top 5 in America and is more pristine than FW. Those sites, as well as others I think, all have 30 & 50 amp plus cable and sewer hook-ups. If you go to their web site you can find a link that shows each of their sites.

If you would like to see pictures of Topsail Hill click here (http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=4512816&uid=2301156).

I have never statyed at Camping on the Gulf, but have heard the same things Brer Bear said.

Next to FW, Topsail is my next all time favorite campground.

I also, have not stayed in Camping on the Gulf, but I have driven by the entrance. It is situated on a very busy road in Destin, and some of the campsites sit just feet from this busy road. It looks more like a mobile home park than a campground.

Here is a link to their website: www.campgulf.com/ammenities.html

Here are is a copy of the park map:

And an aerial photo of the campground:

You can see how congested things are in and around this campground. Not my idea of a good time.

If you were able to snag one of the gulf front sites, that looks like it would be very nice. Otherwise- not so nice.

I agree with the recommendation of Top Sail State Park- another nice one is Grayton Beach State Park.

Florida is a big state. I would guess that Destin is about 400 miles from WDW.
