This may seem like a silly question, but how does one dress for A Private Affair at HH? Is it casual (like shorts) or more dressy (like slacks or a sundress) or very dressy (like church clothes)?

I'd say whatever is most comfortable for you. If you want to get dressed up, then by all means.

Hi
This is an interesting question. We're due to have dinner with Chef Gordon in a couple of weeks and I would have thought whatever you feel most comfortable with wearing. That's what we're going to do anyway.

We had dinner with Chef Gordon last Monday. Its a great dinner and great experience. You can wear whatever you like, but we went with the middle choice (slacks and polo shirt).

We also went smart/casual ( chinos and polo shirt) but it was December and pretty cold LOL. It's really what you feel best in, if you want to get dressed up, you won't feel out of place ( because there is only you LOL).

Gordon will wear his chef's smock (I'm sure there is an official term for the uniform :) ) and his HH cap.
You should wear whatever makes you feel comfortable for a nice dinner. You (and whomever you've invited) will be the only guests, so no one else will know what you wear.
I wore slacks and collared shirt, my DW slacks and blouse and our friends were dressed similarly. Casual works very well!
Enjoy the evening and don't worry about how you're dressed...afterall, you ARE on vacation!!
Enjoy!
