so i got to ride the new spaceship earth today. they were doing a "soft opening" preview.
they installed a new screen onto the front of your time machine vehicle. the narator is now a female, and they take your picture as youre moving up into the ball. everything from the caveman to the "cinema" sign is the same. they improved on the costumes and they mechanics of the characters. they move beautifully.
i dont want to give away the new ending unless asked, but i will say i was NOT impressed. i tried to get pictures but they didnt turn out so well.
im not quite sure if it'll be opening in december or in february. i'll keep an eye out, though.

hm, I thought they were going to completely redue everything like it wasn't going to be the same ride at all. hm, but that's cool that it's pretty much the same.

A FEMALE NARRATOR!!

YOU
GOTTA
BE
KIDDING
ME!!

the narrating was honestly my favourite part!!
& screens on the time machines?? NO THANKS! sounds like it would be really distracting from the scenes.

i LOVED SE....so I am verrrrry skeptical of all this. :snooty:

i need to know the new ending!! PM ME :)
(im a spoiler junkie!)

Wow...interesting. Yeah, I wouldn't be too crazy about the screens. They would totally take me eyes and focus off of what's going on around me. And the narrator is Judi Dench, who won a bunch of Oscars and stuff. I'm not saying that makes her narrating it any better though....I'll miss the old one. But I'd really superdeeduper like to know the ending! I'm also a spoiler junkie :)

I hated that mans voice, but it's like... I loved to hate it, and to pretend it put me to sleep. I liked it in that sense.
Plus female narrators almost always have annoying voices.

Hm... I thought they were completely redoing it, too. I want to know the new ending! My family doesn't like riding SE that often, so I doubt we'll get to ride it in January.

I read the news.

I had a HUGE fit and almost cried...almost.

I ranted to anyone who would listen.

I read a review of someone who described it all. Turns out the screens are off most of the time...

Also the narrator is Dame Judy Dench. It was mentioned in that news thingy on the DIS' front page...

I think the ending does sound boring but it's only the soft opening and it's not supposed to be finished until February.

no, they didnt have pillows on the seats.
i got to ride it again yesterday and still couldnt bring myself to like it.

SPOILERS: highlight to read:

like i said, the ending is the same up until the cinema sign. after that, the living room where they used to be watching walt has been completely changed. the entire set is more modern but represents the time where they first landed on the moon. six..ties? o0

anyway, the next room, instead of moving into where they used to have the two children talking over the language screen, it now has been turned into a giant computer room from the eighties. there are two new animatronics ( a man and woman) on each side. the narration says that the computer was invented and speaks a language of ones and zeros. it also says that "many people wanted a computer in their homes, but the problem was, a computer was as big as a house"

the next scene, instead of moving through the mirror globe, it has changed to a house, complete with a car outside. you are moving through the garage where the first computer was invented and you see another animatronic working at the first personal computer.

instead of moving through the tunnel of lights where you can hear people talking, instead you move through a tunnel of falling numbers that are green. think matrix and you have it all pictured.

you do still turn to face the earth and spiral downwards, but the narrator then says "now its your turn. a few questions will appear on the screen,.." and your screen (which has been dark until now) turns on and asks you a few questions like "what is most important to you?" "how often do you think about your health?" "what would motivate you to exercise more?" "what would you want to drive in the future a rocket bike or a flying car?" "what do you like to do with your friends?"

when you have selected your answers, while the "movie" is loading it asks you if you can remember certain things from the ride itself like "what was the first things humans wrote on for communication?" "computers speak a language of what?" etc.

your movie is shown to you based on your answers. it basically shows you what it would "be like in the future". with crappy animation.

through this whole ordeal there are no lights like there were last time. there is nothing to look at. the city that used to twinkle and glow and fan out into that sheet of lights is gone. the computer classroom where the children were making the different flying machines is gone. even the model spaceship earth is gone. it is dark save fore a few "pixie dust" sparkle lights on the wall your entire journey down.

i have heard that they are still going to open it up in february, and that they are simply opening it to test what people think. if this is the finished product, and you loved or atleast felt sometype of likeness towards the original, you will be dissapointed. mad even. on the upscale, the animatronics move like jack sparrrow does in pirates, some got new costumes, and they look fantastic. the score is diffrent as well and it seems to move a little faster.

I miss the original one. That was timeless and the best. Hopefully the new one won't be too horrible. Though from what I read of the spoiler, I don't think it'll be as good as it used to be. And I'm gonna miss the guy's voice for the narration. He made the ride for me! I wanted to marry that guy!

Hehe..I like the questions part...that could be fun...haha!

Other than that...I don't know. They should put lighting and special effects during the questionaire part, make it more interesting for the little kids who don't want to/can't answer the questions. I miss the old one..=(

Just got back from wdw yesterday, I went on it twice, nothing special, not even the new stuff, I almost fell asleep during it. The rest of my family liked it but I found it very boring.

they took down the construction walls and the line is winding around the front of it by mid morning...
and apparently they arent going to be making too many changes. only a few tweeks between now and feb.

but in the boat of good news, a little birdy told me that there are plans in the works for a brand new parade for epcot. shhh. ;)
