Hi I just booked this cruise and was wondering who else may be going on this cruise also.
There will be 6 of us. Myself - Vicki, DH Marty, DD 11, DS 6, DD 5 and DS 2.
I am excited  as we have never done a 7 night cruise before, just the 3 and 4 nite cruises!

Hi, We just got off the Magic today and switched to this cruise from a dummy date in Dec 2008 we had booked. It will be me (Danielle), my DH (Derek), DS then 12 (Keegan), DS then 8 (Brennan), my MIL (Joyce), DH's 2 step brothers (Brian and Michael) and their wives (Denise and Andie) along with their children who will be ages 8 (male/Logan), 5 (female/Zoey), 5 (male/Hayden), and 3 (female/Bailey). It will be our 7th DCL cruise, my MIL's
2nd DCL cruise and everyone else's first cruise. We have done a 3 day, 4 day, Eastern, Western and Mediterranean DCL trips and loved them all. We have the eastbound repositioning booked for August 2008.

Hi! We are thinking about rebooking onboard for this cruise. I really want to go at Christmas time! We are cruising April 26th and want the onboard credit. :goodvibes It will most likely be just me, DS (will be 13 then) and DD (who will be 9). don't think I can convince DH to go on another cruise but who knows!
I am torn between this one and the Western the following week. Depending on how much we love St. Thomas on our upcoming cruise, I will book this one, since I like the thought of St. Croix  And it's a bit cheaper than the following week too! :rolleyes1

Welcome:welcome: Danielle,
We just got off the Wonder on Thurs too. This will be our 7th cruise too, as we also have a 4 night planned early next Dec. I bet you are looking forward to your cruise in 2008. You will really be able to enjoy the Magic for a couple of weeks. :dance3:
We originally had the 7 night Eastern cruise planned for next Dec., but decided the St. Croix one sounded more interesting.

Hi dreamcometrue - and welcome,
I hope you are able to join us on this cruise. It is nice to book it on the ship inorder to get the ship board credit. We have 2 connecting staterooms, so we have $400 all together - which is really nice. This will be our 1st 7 night cruise. We have only done 3 and 4 nighters.
We just got off the Wonder on Thurs. and the ship is so pretty this time of year with the tree and Christmas decorations up.

Hello Vicki,
I see you started our new Cruse thread. :cool1: I just talked to my TA and request the cabin we had on our first cruise with a verandah:cool1: :cool1: It's not Walt or Roy's cabin , but it will do. I'll pm you our address. I can't remember if you had given me yours, could you send it as well.
What I forgot to tell you was that there are more activities on a 7 day cruise that i noticed was missing on the 3-4 day cruses, for example Character breakfest. I still enjoyed myself.

Hi Virginia, :wave2:
A verandah cabin will be nice, especially with a 7 nite cruise. I PM'd you with our address this morning. Thank you for yours.
I imagine that there are more activities on a 7 night cruise. A character breakfast for the kids would be fun! I am always so busy on a 4 nite cruise running here and there that a 7 nite might actually be more relaxing -- yah right I probably will only be running around even more :rotfl2:
Oh well, I am still really looking forward to it!

Sign me up for this cruise, too! It will be me (Karen) and my husband (Douglas) going. I know nothing about St. Croix but the Dec 5th date fit better than Dec 12th in my work schedule so we picked Eastern over Western. It was also cheaper by about $600 so that was an added bonus. We also booked it onboard the Mousefest cruise in early December to get the 10% discount and the $200 onboard credit.

We just did the 3 day cruise on 12/6/07 in the Roy Suite. It was wonderful, but too quick. Unfortunately, we didn't rebook anything when we were on the ship:confused3 , so I don't know how to save any additional $$ for this one. Anybody have suggestions?

Hi and welcome Andy, ToniAnn and Elizabeth,
Nice to meet you. We got off the ship on the 6th, so you were on right after us.:) Did you have a good cruise? We had a great time, but you were right, it did go way too fast. The only suggestion I have for saving money, etc might be to place your reservation with Dreams Unlimited for the on board credit since you didn't reserve onboard. I think they are offering double credit or something like that. Maybe someone else might have some suggestions too. At least by booking this cruise so far out ( 2years) we all probably have saved some money that way. :woohoo:

Hello all. I have never heard of a "fish extender", but I am assuming it is a secret santa gift exchange? I have been to both St. Thomas and St. Croix before. In an old company, we had locations on both islands and I got to them every so often. Like everywhere else, there are some very nice parts and some not so nice parts to the islands. But.... the nice parts are very beautiful! If you like shopping, St. Thomas is the place to go. It is much nicer than the Bahamas. Our cruise in December had perfect weather and very calm seas. The Roy Suite was so "wonder"ful, that you almost never wanted to leave the room! We had a group of seven that was pretty tired out from a trip to WDW before, so we did not get to experience all we should have on the ship. I am looking forward to seven days with just the 3 of us, so we can experience as much as possible.

Hi Virginia,
I am glad that your daughter's surgery went well and that she is starting to feel better. I am sure her throat was sore for quite some time. The kids went back to school yesterday and it has been very cold here. It is finally going to warm into the 30s and 40s.
We didn't do too much for new years. marty and the kids did go swimming at night. Our cat of 13 years had passed away that day, so it was a pretty sad day around here. What did you do for new years?
I definitely want to do the secret santa game again. That was so much fun! I know mommyoftwininfants was talking about doing a fish extender gift exchange. i am sure that they are pretty much the same thing. I am open to either one. I think a group photo would be a great idea. I wish we would have done this for our last cruise. Oh well... I would also be interested in a scrapbooking day. Lots of neat ideas here. I can't wait for this cruise. It will be so much fun to be on the ship for 7 nights, instead of only 4.:goodvibes
We should also try to meet with each other some other place besides the sailaway party. It is always so crowded there and hard to tell who is a fellow dis'er even if they are wearing lime green:)
I am looking forward to seeing your website/blog for this cruise - please let me know if I can help you in any way.
I hope to talk to you soon!

Hello all!
I was wondering if we should "name" our cruise:rolleyes: . On the last one I took, the 3-day Wonder on 12/6/07, we came up with a "Surf and Turf" theme as most everyone on the thread also did a land portion at WDW. Those that were real creative on a computer even used the theme on their door decorations. Anyone have a good idea for our cruise? We early participants to this thread can vote and give our cruise a "permanent" name.

Have you ever been to St. Croix or know much about it?
Vicki I did a little research on this and have to admit I'm a bit nervous with this stop in the itinerary. It seems like there is only one other cruiseline stopping there at the moment. St. Croix did (or is doing) lots of improvements to their port so they have attracted Disney to use them as a stop. Our cruise is 2 years away so I'm hoping they have developed lots of things to do/places to shop by the time we arrive. I suspect this one is much cheaper than the Western cruise the next week on Dec 12 because of St. Croix being one of the stops.

:woohoo:
Thanks for the tip! I just sent a request to Dreams Unlimited to see if they do $200 in addition to the $200 we got from Disney already by booking on board.
I don't see the advantage of moving our reservation to an agent unless we get something from the agent that we didn't get booking directly with Disney. An additional $200 onboard credit would do that for me! We'll see what happens. I also sent our reservation to a couple other TAs who were at Mousefest in December to see what their quotes might look like. My own, cruisingco.com, couldn't beat the DCL direct pricing and $200 onboard credit so I haven't transfered the booking to them.

We did some reading up on St.Croix and I am a little nervous about this port now too. There is a rum factory that could be interesting to visit and Buck Island. This may be a port where I will book a excursion with Disney.
We just booked last night. It will be me, DH, DDs 8&9 at sailing time and my mom. We were on a land/sea in May 07 and loved most of it, except Nassau. Hope to meet some of you all :-)

I think Disney agreeing to dock there will make a difference. I can't see Disney taking us to someplace that isn't up to Disney standards as far as excursions available, etc. They have almost 2 years until we arrive to come up with stuff for us to do so I'm waiting to see.

I am just worried about the weather :confused3 Has anyone cruised at this time of year before? How was Castaway Cay?

Hi :wave2: Everyone!
I've officially booked a cabin for this cruise this a.m. I will "rebook" and get the discount and onboard credit when we cruise in November.
I haven't got alot of time to chat right now, but I'll give you a lowdown. I'm Dawn and I cruise with my 2 DGS Skylar and Christian. They both will be 13 on this cruise. This will be our 3rd DCL cruise. We sailed on the 11/26/07 Eastern, sailing on the 11/29/08 Western and then this one. I'm hoping to bring along alot of my group "Nanaheads" to this cruise. The one we originally were going on was 11/28 and another Western.
Look forward to chatting with you guys. Dawn

Are you saying that even though I have locked in a great price now, I could take a 3-day in, say, a cat 12 and "rebook" this same price + same room, but get the additional 10% off and onboard credit? :confused3 If so, it might be worth it as I am doing a cat-3 on the 12/5/09 cruise!
-Andy
I only booked for myself. There wouldn't be any price guarantee but I'll gamble with the 10 percent off it will be better than the price for 3 now. I booked the room I want so it would be "on hold" so that she could just rebook with the new reservation.
That definitely might be worth a gamble you might want to take early because you can see what kind of deal they would give you. Check the price for the cruise online before you go and you could see want kindda deal they might give you. The price is about 10 percent less than that price. I don't know how Category 3 works but I would think the possibility of getting the same room would be pretty high. Again, just call them and they would be able to tell you if it would work.
A word of advice though. Find a good knowledgeable rep some aren't as worthy as others.

Vicky, sorry have contacted you latley, this has been a bad week, I started a math 95 and A/P class I need to apply to the nursing program, Since I have an AAS in Dental hygiene, I only need a few classes in order to apply. Well I'm going to have to put it off for a little bit. , I went a couple of week to have my yearly mammogram, they notice something on the films. I went for additional testing, and the resulds came back positive for breast cancer. The good news it they caught it early and they are very small lumps, I have an appoitment on monday with the surgeon . I'll know more then. I'm keeping a positive attitude. I have done several class presentatiion on brease cancer , and I think it has helped me mentally when I received the report.
I dont want to bring anyone down, but I just want to remind all of us gals the importance of regulary mammogram.

Hi Virginia,
I am so sorry about your bad news. It really took me by surprise. What a relief that your lumps were small and that they caught it early. It is a good thing for mammograms. I haven't had one done yet, I am breastfeeding right now, but plan to definitely get one when I turn 40. Let me know what the surgeon says on Monday. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Plus,
I am sending along some pixie dust pixiedust: that the surgeon will have good news on Monday and that everything will go well for you.
Let me know if you ever need anything Virginia. I know I live quite a ways from you, but if there is something I can do here, please let me know.
That is great that you have such a positive attitude about it all. I have heard that this can help. Let's hope!
You're such a super person Virginia and I really hope the best for you!

Good luck on Monday! We are sending our thoughts and prayers out to you!:grouphug: I know that cancer can be a very frightening ordeal (my father was just diagnosed with esophageal cancer over the holidays), but keeping up a positive attitude and taking care of it in its early stages will prove out to have the best results in the long run.
Take care and keep us all updated.

Also, if we were to get some of the Nanaheads on our boat (Dsparks and friends), then maybe we could do a "Nana Theme" for our cruise and become Nanaheads ourselves? We will have to ask Dsparks if that would be OK and of course, we would have to agree that this could be our theme. I do not know too much about the Nanaheads other than they do wear yellow shirts to identify themselves:banana:  and they seem like a good bunch (no pun intended).

I didn't get any notifications for this thread subscription until last night so I didn't see this until now. So sorry to hear the news. By now, you've probably figured out what you're going to do about surgery or more likely had the surgery already Hope you are doing well.
I second the importance of regular mammograms. I get mine religiously every April (will be 50 years old next month.) My sister went for her baseline mammogram in 2003 when she turned 40 and they found breast cancer in the early stages at that point. She had her breast taken off and then a few months of grueling chemo. She was bald for my wedding (with a wig of course) but she was there just a few months after surgery. Then due to the high risk of getting the same cancer in her remaining breast, she had that one removed too. It will be 5 years ago this Fall that she had the initial surgery. No cancer since then so we keep praying the cancer stays away.
They found yours early so you have a good chance of a positive outcome. Mammograms are SO important for that early detection.

We have been having a rough few weeks here. Our 10- year- old got short of breath/chest pains in gym and I took him to the pediatrician and then the hospital for chest x-rays. They found a patch, thought it was pneumonia and then did a CT scan. The pediatrician and radiologist diagnosed him with lymphoma and sent us to Johns Hopkins. The oncologists quickly said it wasn't lymphoma or leukemia. He does have a tumor in his chest and we are waiting on a new CT scan this Tuesday to find out if medication he's been on for 2 weeks has shrunk it. They are not positive what it is and how it got there. They said he may have been born with it and didn't have symptoms until it became massively infected Feb 21. He has a surgery consultation Wednesday.

Here is some :wizard: for you and your son. If you need a shoulder to cry on or someone to talk to just give me PM, my son just had heart surgery in August at the age of five and I have known since he was a month old that he would need to have open heart surgery, but with plenty of faith and patience his heart healed itself enough to have a non invasive surgery. The doctor fixed him up in about 30 mins instead of hours of surgery and he went home the next morning as opposed to spending a week in the hospital recovering.

I have not booked this cruise yet but I am thinking about it. It will be myself (Tonya 29 at time of cruise ) and my son (Zane 8 at the time of the cruise). We took our first cruise on the Magic this past September and my son was hooked! I would love to go in Sept again because the rates are the best then but my son does not want to miss football so it looks like we are limited to after Thanksgiving. I am just worried about the weather :confused3 Has anyone cruised at this time of year before? How was Castaway Cay?
This is Morsel (Chris/Lynn),
We are booked for the Magic Eastern October 24, 2009 cruise, not on the cruise in December. We have been thinking of switching to the Dec. 5 cruise because we have not been to St. Croix. We have cruised during Oct., Nov., Dec., Jan.. The weather has been fine and water temps warm. Remember that September is still hurricane season and tropical storm season, in fact Sept. is peak season, thus you are taking a greater chance on bad weather with Sept. as opposed to the winter months we have stayed with.

Greetings all from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada!
This will be our first Disney Cruise, but our oldest son will be 8, our daughter will be 6 and youngest boy will be 2.75. My veteran cruiser mom will be along for the ride as well so mom and dad can have a breather every now and then and got adjoining cabins rather than being cramped in one stateroom with balcony.
We'll miss the balcony, but it's going to be a great time!
Been on 2 RCCL cruises and 2 Carnival. When we were docked in Nassau on RCCL, one Disney ship came in beside us. I know very few people came out and we could hear from our deck the shrieks of fun and laughter from the Disney ship beside us.
This date is at the tail end of the hurricane season so we're expecting nothing but great weather and a great pre-Christmas gathering before the major Christmas rush begins.
Hope to get to know a bunch of you in the next little while! Going to be Great!

Hi Everyone!
Got a question for the experienced Disney travellers. My family is Catholic and on our last Carnival cruise we had the opportunity to catch mass on the ship when a traveling Priest happened to be on the cruise as well. Seeing as we will be on our Day at Sea on the Sunday, do any of you experience disney cruisers know of mass being available on a Disney cruise?
I'm thinking that this is highly unlikely as Catholic Priests can't marry, and thus have little children around. The only viable thing I see would be if a priest or a church group brings along children from an oraphanage or something.
Just wondering......

Hello There Tower,
I don't know when you will be back on line posting but thought I would answer your question about mass on DCL.
I have sailed a number of times on DCL. In fact we are booked for the Oct. 24, 2009 Eastern cruise. DCL has a Sunday morning ecumenical service meant to take care of all faith needs.
Hope this helps.
We originally had planned to book your Dec. 5, 2009 cruise but went to Oct. because of some friends we have cruised with a number of times booked Oct.. We are still debating going back to the Dec. 5 cruise instead.

Well, the NYC World of Disney is definitely a great place to go. It felt just like being at WDW :yay: . I even took a picture with Pluto and Minnie Mouse (yes, they have character meet and greets!). After visiting all 3 floors and buying lots of gifts, it was time to make my way home :guilty: . I also did get a 10% discount on my purchases for being a annual pass member :woohoo: .
As for our official meet on the Magic, we have not set a time yet. When we sailed on the Wonder, our DIS group met at 3:00 pm on embarkation day in one of the open bar areas near the buffet. It was nice as everyone was on the ship, but some people could not make it as they were in the pool, exploring the ship, etc. Also, people left early to prep for the drill. If we do a meet on our trip (which I say we should), I would suggest we meet either earlier or possibly during the sail away event. Also, we should pick a DIS Group theme / name for our cruise and have someone coordinate either shirts (DIS Lime Green, of course) or buttons or something to that effect. Any suggestions from the group on meet times / themes? In addition, we could do a "secret santa" exchange or have everyone get the "fish holders" (the letter / gift exchange things you hang off the fish outside your door). And....we should all decorate our doors. We did this last time and it was great!

The NYC World of Disney sounds like a fun place to go. And you even got to see Minnie :goodvibes
We are getting excited here to go to Ft Wilderness in 3 weeks. We are going to be going to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. My dad passed away in early June and we are hoping to take my mom (if she agrees-she is not sure yet) to help take her mind off of things etc.
On our last cruise last Dec. We were suppose to wear the Dis Lime green and meet at the SailAway party. There were so many people up there that it was hard to really meet everyone and know whether or not they were wearing green because of the Dis boards or just wearing lime green. I definitely think that we should meet up before the sailaway party maybe at one of the lounges and those that aren't busy can show up and then maybe we can have another one the next day or something too.
I think namimg our cruise would be fun to do along with coordinating t-shirts and/or buttons. We just bought lime green shirts for our last cruise, but if someone is really artistic and creative maybe we could have someone make a design or button for our cruise.
I definitely want to do secret santa or fish extender exchange. That was a lot of fun on our last cruise. We also decorated our doors and that really helps add to the excitement of the cruise
Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions to this.

Hi everybody. We just booked this one. It will be our 7th DCL cruise (our sixth is comming up in September--I doubt I'll post much over here until after that cruise!). It will be myslef, Hadley (and I get to have my birthday on board!), my DH Dave, DD Marika (who will be turning 13 later that December:eek: ) and DS Rio (who will be turning 11 later that December). On our Transatlantic cruise last year we met some wonderful friends who we are sailing with again this September (one couple form Las Vegas, one couple form Rochester, NY and one family from Florida). This group has become some of my VERY best friends. I am hoping we can convince them to join on this cruise as well:dance3:
I haven't told the kids we booked this one yet. When I eventually do I am sure they will pop onto the meet thread.
It is nice to meet you all:goodvibes

Hey Woody and Mrsbalt--thanks for the welcome:goodvibes
I just booked. It is my first cruise and I am so excited to be going Disney and in December. It will be myself and DB (darling boyfriend?) Marty. We leave this Wed for 7 nights at POR so I am on quite a Disney high today. Did I miss the post about a separate web page? Maybe I misunderstood. Thanks

Hi Amy and welcome! Now I am no longer the newest poster on this thread:thumbsup2
How exciting for you that you are leaving for WDW. We are staying at Port Orleans (French Quarter) when we go next month--we love it there--it is where we spent our honeymoon 12 1/2 years ago (and came home with a "souvinere"--DDMArika is now 11:rotfl2: )
I see you are in Maine. That means we have to be kinda sorta close to one another (we are in central NH). Maybe sometime in the next 16 months we can manage to get together and have a precruise meet:goodvibes
I don't think there is any other website for this thread yet (unless I also missed something). Honestly, in my opinion, it is early for that anyway. As is, THIS thread only sees activity once or twice a week (but I am sure we will all be more chatty as time goes on and the cruise gets closer).
NHdisneylover-Enjoy your time at POFQ. I am hoping we will hit the jazz club there Wed night. Either there or at POR there is live music-I think. This is my 4th time at POR and I can't bring myself to try another resort.
I see you have cruised before. Maybe I will PM you with questions as the months go on. And maybe meet for a shopping trip somewhere too :)
I will look for info on a website in the future. It is far out. I was surprised to find this board. Surprised but happy.

Hi All,
There will be the four of us joining your merry cruise. I'll be bringing along my mother and her two friends. Me (53), mom Terry (83), Ed & Barb (70ish).
I'll be going on a DCL 3 day cruise this year in October and then a trip to WDW after the cruise. So I probably won't be posting much until I return from that trip.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Welcome to all the new people since the last time I posted here, ages ago! :)
My DH and I just got back from our Alaska cruistour with Princess. We LOVE Alaska almost as much as we love Disney! While there, we heard that Disney has applied for some of the permits to allow their ship(s) into Glacier Bay. Only a few ship are allowed in each day so they are arranged well in advance. I believe this is for 2010 but it could be for 2011. If Disney ever sends one of their 4 ships (2 new ones will be done by then) to Alaska I'd have to seriously consider switching from Princess.
In the meantime, this cruise in Dec 09 is our next scheduled cruise as we do one each calendar year.
I'd also vote for meeting before the sailaway party as the lime green shirts didn't work well last December at all. Way too many people in the crowd and we didn't really have a clue who was who.

Hello Inkmahm!
Welcome back!
I did not know of a 3rd and 4th Disney ship in the works! That would be a great trip during the summer holidays!
I'm sure we'll hear more about that in future Disney emails.
Now that things have gotten back to 'routine', the kids back at school, the Canadian Thanksgiving in one month, and smooth 'sailing' on the horizon as we head toward Christmas (Uh oh, I said the word - yes it's coming fast!) I got to thinking this morning of our upcoming Disney family travels. It's really exciting! I can't wait until the family can get together on the cruise.
Yes, I'm a guy, we get excited too ya know!

Provided the kids have fun, it's all I need to know.
I've been to St. Croix and did not find it particularly interesting. My real desire was to go to St. Maarten, but those cruises were much more expensive. It won't matter to the kids anyway, so the fun will be all theirs.
Just looking for some nice quiet time with my bride while the 3 kids play on their own.

I have Aunts and cousins in St.Maarten as well...but could not refuse going to St. Croix this time around since I have been trying to go to St. Croix for years now. I have never been to St. Maarten even though I have plenty of family out there....I just wish St. Maarten was added to this list too. It is really expensive though...Still, I would have loved that....I hope Disney decides to add St. Lucia to that list too..I was born there, and have plenty of family members out there too. I have been hoping to go there for some time also...but for some reason Disney always wins...Well, if Disney decides to add all of those islands,I will just love it. :woohoo:

Hi all! We just booked this cruise following a b2b on the Wonder. It will be a family trip thanks to my parents. Coming are me (Christina, 35 then), DD Kate 5, DS Lucas 2, Dparents (better not give dates if I want them to continue to us on their trips:worship: ) DSis 33, Dbil 34, Dnephew 3 and TBA (to arrive in March)
This will be our first trip to St. Croix, but not our first cruise. We have been very luck that my parents love spending time with thier grandkids. I love to cruise and have been on many DCL cruises, but we are definately not experts. We spend a lot of relaxing and enjoying each others company, we just do not have the time at home.

It's been almost a year since I last posted on this site. Back then I'd spoken about our then 10 year old being diagnosed first with lymphoma, then finding out it was a benign chest mass. Fortunately after lots of medication and CT scans (and lots of prayers), he's now recovered almost completely with just minor scar tissue remaining.
We have had a very busy year and managed a couple Disney trips and Wonder cruises. We are looking forward to being on the Magic in December. Our oldest son will be 11 on the cruise and our youngest will be 8 (tomorrow's his b-day).
I'm not sure if anyone who has sailed before on the Wonder knows Cruise Director Clayton, but we ran into him on our cruise a week and a half ago (he was not CD that trip, but was training others) and he said he's going to the Magic in June and will be our CD on our December cruise.

Great to see another Crazy Canuck along with us. Our family of 5 plus my mom will be along. We're close to the Toronto airport (Mississauga), but I've been to Halifax a few times in the past.
If you were from Newfoundland, I'd tell you to bring along some Screech, but since we're being fed quite a bit on this cruise, I guess it's not a good idea to request good ol' Nova Scotia lobster.
My son Erik may get a chance to meet Sydney, also 8 and my daughter Holly will get along great with Brenna as she will be 6.
Gonna be a great time!!!

Hey Hanover, after reading another thread a little while ago, you may want to consider trip insurance just in case. My sister in law had to cancel a family trip to Mexico last month due to her coming up with breast cancer. They lost all the money as they did not insure themselves.
Just a friendly suggestion.

Hi Tower,
That's great you've got some kids around the same age as mine. Sydney is our tomboy. No pink in her life. She plays hockey and only hangs out with boys! Brenna, on the other hand, is all girl...complete opposites!
I actually grew up in Mississauga. Moved to Nova Scotia in 1990. I'm at the Toronto Airport almost weekly.
Didn't you say family of five? What's the age of your third child? Have you been on a Disney cruise before?
Tower
02-14-2009, 06:09 PM
Hi Frank,
Our youngest is Peter. He will be almost 3 by the cruise. We're hoping to get him into the same program as Holly as HE WILL BE POTTY TRAINED. (Sorry for the caps but that's a promise we're making to ourselves.)
Erik plays defence on his hockey team, so he'll have a bit in common with Sydney. Holly and Brenna will be BFF's! Holly does dressup all the time, but is not afraid to get her hands dirty too.
Not our first cruise, but first Disney cruise. The kids have gone with us on one Carnival cruise before, and this will be the 5th cruise for Christine and me. My mom's on another cruise right now for 10 days so this will be her 20th? 25th? something like that.
We're flying out of Buffalo, NY to get to Orlando. Otherwise, I'd say to bring the family over for a beer before we fly down out of Toronto. I imagine you'll get some flight either direct out of Halifax or via Montreal.
Keep in touch. This thread is the only thing keeping my sanity in this crazy world right now.

Hey Hanover, after reading another thread a little while ago, you may want to consider trip insurance just in case. My sister in law had to cancel a family trip to Mexico last month due to her coming up with breast cancer. They lost all the money as they did not insure themselves.
Just a friendly suggestion.
Thanks. We definitely get insurance on all of our trips because you just never know what pops up in life. We have found Access America to have the same coverage that DCL offers for a lot less. I think our cruise in February was $112 for the 4 of us and covered much more than what DCL would have covered.

I sure hope so but if the surprise is spoiled, I'm sure it will be me. I almost asked DD yesterday if she was excited about the cruise. Glad I caught myself.

Greetings Carmen!
Welcome to this thread! (With over 1200 posts, I guess you've been welcomed to the board several times already!)
It's going to be a great time for all. The trip is less than 10 months away now and everyone is getting excited.
I can't afford to think about it too much or I won't get any work done here in my office.

Also, has a cruise meet been determined?

Then I would imagine that would be the Galveston port. Well, it will be great to have you along!
Actually just started a project here in Toronto with a new client out of Austin. We have a couple of nice Texas gals here right now to work with. (They just find it a bit cold up here right now)
Don't know about any FE's (whatever they are), but I don't think a meet & greet has not been determined yet. I'm not going to worry about it until after we've got the activities booked etc (once that finally opens up)

Welcome to all of the new people on the thread! December is coming quick. Hard for me to think about that when we still have tons of snow and no end in site. Another 10 inches is expected to fall tonight. I am so sick of the snow, that I had to book a trip to Florida during spring break. I need a break myself.
I am definately doing the fish extenders. Maybe we can start thinking about it and start a list in September. We had such a great time doing the fish extenders on our last cruise. It was a lot of fun.
We will definately have to think about a dismeet. It is so much fun to meet everyone we have been talking to on the boards.
Talk to everyone soon.

Hi All!
Thought I would share this with you in case you would be interested. When we did our last family cruise on Carnival in December of 2007, we booked a flight a day ahead of the start of our cruise in case foul weather slowed our departure either at the beginning or mid-route. In our case, it turned out to be very prudent because, had we booked our travel the day of the cruise, we would have missed our cruise due to the inclement weather around the eastern seaboard.
We're doing the same thing this year and flying into Orlando on the 4th. Because there are 6 of us, and booking 2 rooms is rather expensive, I found the Marriott Residence Inn Airport to have a 1 bedroom suite with 2 queens and a pullout that will fit us nicely for around US$107 (or US$120.50 including tax). It has a free airport shuttle, free breakfast in the morning and even cocktails on the Friday night!
Not sure if anyone else wanted to add a little arrival time insurance to their trip, but I think it will work for us.
Just go to www.marriott.com to check it out. (There are also other hotels in area with decent deals so go to the airport website www.orlandoairports.net and check to see what works best for you.
It would be interesting to meet any earlybirds on the Friday night beforehand and get a good start to the vacation.

Yes, you're right. We're not too far from Galveston. I have an aunt who cruises out of there frequently.
Ah, Austin is gorgeous, probably the prettiest city here in Texas. Yes, I would find it cold in Canada too! It was in the high 30s/low 40s here this morning and I was freezing. It was warmed up nicely, though, it's close to 60. I don't think I could handle the cold too long. But we do have to put up with heat and humidity here. That's not fun either but at least I'm used to it.
There are some thread's on FE's (fish extenders). I'm still learning about them myself but they are pocket organizers that people hang from their fish outside their door. Other Dis members will drop off little surprises and things during the cruise.
Ooh, can't believe we're closing in on 9 months. So exiting. Each and every day I'm learning all I can and finding out all kinds of neat information.

No snow here but still wanting Dec to get here! Heck, we've already had days in the high 70s/low 80s. It's was cold last night and will be tonight (well, cold for us anyway!) but it will be close to 80 by the end of the week.
I'm excited about the FEs too. I bought some material to make one and I will attempt the no-sew version. I've got some little ideas about gifts but need to think of some more.

Yeah, we're planning on doing the same thing, assuming DH can get off work in enough time on Friday. SWA has several daily flights to MCO from Houston and there has usually been one around 7:30 pm. We could probably do that but that would be just about the earliest one we could do. I don't want to be pushing it on Saturday morning and not arrive on time. I've taken a couple of first morning flights to MCO from Houston and haven't had any problems, in fact arrived about 20 mins early on each one. Those were flights when we were visiting WDW and it really wouldn't be a big deal if we arrived late. However, would hate for a problem to arrive when it would matter.
We're renting a car upon arrival at MCO. We were hoping to go ahead and drive to Port Canaveral that night but that would put us there around midnight if we depart here around 7:30. I'll check into the Marriot, that might work better. Thanks for the link!

We just completed a major move (from New Hamoshire to Germany) so things are a little fuzzy right now as far as what we can afford and what airfare might be, etc. so I cannot be sure. We love to spend a week at the parks and then relax for a week on the ship afterwards:goodvibes

Hi everyone, I saw the posts about flying in a day before the cruise! A little over 3 years ago we had booked our second Disney Cruise for the end of Sept. or beginning of Oct. and it was just after the 5th anniversary of 9/11. We planned to fly to Orlando on Friday morning and had booked a hotel very near the port, with a huge pool and slide for my boys to enjoy and then we could liesurely make our way over to the ship on Saturday. I guess it was all the 9/11 stuff from a few weeks before in the school's and on TV that my older son freaked out so bad when we boarded the plane in DC that we had to get off at the last minute before they closed the door. The flight crew was outstanding. They did everything they could to calm his nerves including the pilot's letting him push switches and buttons in the cockpit, but nothing worked and we decided we couldn't put him through the trama of the flight (even though I believed he would be OK once we were at cruising altitude). His younger brother even threatend to kill him if he made us miss the cruise!
So we watched the aircraft take off with our bags onboard and head for Orlando. We decided our only option was to drive overnight to Orlando and get our bags at the airport and then head to the ship. We also decided that altough our minivan was it good shape, it had alot miles on it and we should rent a car for the drive rather than risking a breakdown and not making it to the ship. I confirmed that our bags had made it to Orlando in 2 hours and that they would store them overnight for us. We took the minivan into DC and parked it at my office and rented a car. It's now early Friday afternoon and head out of DC. My wife and I alternated driving through the night while the kids slept and we arrived in Orlando about 4am. Luck would have that there was a hotel next to the airport with a free shuttle service, so we got a room to try nd get a few hours of solid sleep. Guess who wakes up and thinks it's time to start the day, our two boy's. Man was I mad and exhausted. After a very stern look and threats of impending doom they laid down and fell back to sleep.
The story has a happy ending! I got our bags from the airport and we made it to the ship about 1pm. Needless to say the first night onboard was an early one.
Moral of this story is that when cruising I recommend arriving a day early, you don't what will happen!

Well, the snow is starting to melt some more here in Canada so the thoughts of tropical breezes are starting to wane right now with the promise of warm weather over here. Still, I can't wait to get on that ship 9 months from now. Just need to focus on the important matters prior to that.
Have a great night all!

Hi Tower,
Thanks for the welcoming message. The snow is also starting to melt here in the suburbs around Washington, DC, altough I think you guys get alot more than we do. I know Canadian people can actually function in the snow, whereas people around DC absolutely panic about a few inches of snow.
White sandy beaches and warm tropical breezes are on my mind also!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll buy the first round of beers when we get onboard!

Sounds like several of of will have girls with similar interest! My DD10 does like pink but can't stand being called a princess and will only get her picture taken with them for me. She loves to dig in the dirt for bugs and even came home from school one day with a dead, small snake in a baggy! Can't stand baby dolls or barbies and never has. When she was a toddler, she'd push her dinosaurs or stuffed dogs around in a baby carriage but you'd never find a real doll in there. She loves LPS and other animals. It'd be great if the girls could meet at the kid's club!

2. We would like to go horseback riding on one of the island's. I was wondering if anyone has done this before and can make a suggestion as to a company to make a reservation with?

Hi George,
When I was in USVI in 2006, I did not see anything so I looked on tripadvisor.com. The way it looks, St. Thomas does not have anything, but there is one place offering horseback riding.
http://www.e-vacationrentals.com/st_thomas/horseback_riding.htm
I did not find much in St. Croix at all. There is also the Cruzan Rum factory tour (which I found boring and not a place I'd take my younger kids to).
I notice that the St. Croix leg we're on is the last one on the DCL schedule that I can see. I'm wondering if it's not panning out as well received as DCL would have liked....
Hope that helps.

We know it's all in fun. Personally I felt a little like a peeping tom reading what appeared to be more private talk.
I think it's great that everyone we've talked to so far is excited about the upcoming trip. Less than 8 1/2 months to go to our departure and this big kid can't wait already!
As I mentioned before, my 75 yr old mom is coming along. She asked on Sunday if there were any casinos on board. After looking over the Disney Cruise website, I can't find any. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Never been on a Disney Cruise but I do know that there are no casinos on board. I've watched the Disney Cruise special enough to have just about the whole thing memorized and they specifically mention no casinos on board. DS is always asking to watch the Mickey Mouse Boat Show and I won't argue.
This big kid is ready too! The kids and I will be adding a week at WDW on before or after the cruise and we just can't wait. DH unfortunately won't be able to join us at the parks but is looking forward to the cruise because he says that he will actually be able to relax on this vacation, something that's hard to do at WDW.

Hi Hadley,
We know it's all in fun. Personally I felt a little like a peeping tom reading what appeared to be more private talk.
Exactly.
p.s. There are definitely no casinos on Disney ships.

I think it's great that everyone we've talked to so far is excited about the upcoming trip. Less than 8 1/2 months to go to our departure and this big kid can't wait already!

As others have said--no casinos. The only gambling type activity on baord is BINGO. I ahve never been, but I hear many people really have fun at it.

We are spending the week before at WDW with my best friend:goodvibes My advice is to go the week before if possible for 2 reasons:
1. WDW is exhausting and it is great to then relax and unwind for a week afterwards.
2. (Big one for me) if I am arriving an entire week before sail date in Orlando then I do not stress about missing the ship due to weather dealys, etc. (once ina great while weather delays can be longer than even the one day minimuim window I feel comfprtable with arriving in:eek:)
So, to get us ALL chatting a bit about ourselves, may I suggest we do something I have done on some of my other meet threads and havea Question of the Week? Here is a really simple one to get us all started:
Who is your favourite Disney character?
Our answers are:
Me--Mary Poppins
DH (Dave)--Milo Thatch
DD (Marika)--Belle
DS (Rio)--Peter Pan, Mickey Mouse and Jim Hawkins

:lmao:I grew up reading lots of British books (and Canadian--gotta love L.M. Montgomery). I can still remember being STUNNED when one of my jr. high teachers pointed out to me that i used "British" spellings for many words. I had no idea there was a difference based on country--I just thought both spellings were acceptable and I used what I saw the most:rotfl2:By then the "Brit" (or Canandian) was pretty well sruck in my head so I never botehred to switch (I am a terrible speller--if I got one version right that is good:rotfl:).
Picking just one (or two or 10) favourite is always tough--you can change your answers at any time:rolleyes1 I am curious is it Barry or Christine who posts?

Dad's the one who spends his days on the computer. Christine's the one who stays home so she's mowing the lawn, cooking dinner, dressing the kids, putting them to bed, laundry, shopping, etc.
Yes, I think she has the easier job. ;)
Actually, I do work too, and, also I cook, clean, pay the bills and put the kids to bed (and bring them to school). I'm phasing the lawn mowing to DS (8) this summer. Just having some fun.

The week before would be ideal, but if my sister goes (and if is a big word!) we'll have to go the week after because of her school. Also, I'd like to know what kind of promotions are out before booking. Last year, they had free dining for Disney Visa Card holders for what would be the week after our cruise. Since we'll be eating so much on the cruise, I wouldn't care if there is another promotion out but I would definitely like to take advantage of some type of promo. And if free dining is the only promo, heck I'll take it - we still have to eat. I just probably wouldn't stress so much about maximizing the DDP.

Hi Carmen--I'm glad I will not be the only one with a Fish Extender:thumbsup2I got lucky and someone on the first cruise I took after finding the DIS made me a fish extender. So, if you all wonder why my FE has the first TransAtlantic logo on it that is why:rotfl2: Yes, that FE got precious room in my suitcases for the move (I do not want to try to make one myself:lmao:) I have been thining of fun goodies to ditribute as well. IS anyone keeping a list of who all will have them so we know how much to bring?
Both school and free dining sound like very good reasons to go to WDW post cruise:thumbsup2 We love free dinign and have had it on teh last 4 trips. It will be wierd not having it theis time around but my friend has DVC and we are staying with him so I think we would not qualify even if it is offered:sad2: I am also very worreid about how the German schools will react when we tell them we are pulling the kids for two weeks in December:eek:My defense with them is that we booked this trip long before we knew we were moving to Germany--we're not trying to go against the system:rolleyes1

As far as I know, there isn't a list yet, but perhaps a new thread might work for the FEs. Since I've never done an FE, I wouldn't feel comfortable coordinating the whole thing but I will help out any way I can.
We've never been able to take advantage of free dining but have bought the DP on 2 our last trips and really liked it. I can just imagine how much more I'd like it if I didn't have to pay for it! We went last year during free dining, but since we own DVC and were staying on points, we didn't qualify. This year, I'll be paying cash so I'm looking out far any and all promotions.
So, where did you live prior to moving to Germany. I'm guessing from your user name that you lived in New Hampshire?

I don't think we are allowed to set up thread just for FE lists. I have only seen regular threads and kids' threads on the meets. But I don't really know. What I have usually seen is someone sets up a website for the group and the list goes there. I have NO idea how to set up a website (just navigating my way around the DIS takes all my technical savvy):lmao: I have also seen the list just cut and pasted into one specific post on the thread that gets updates periodically. But I have kept lists for lanyards before (those aren't published, just sent to the person ordering lanyards on cruises where folks are hyper organized and get tehse things done--me I am not even slightly organized:flower3:)
Oh, and your deductive reasoning skills are great! We were indeed in New Hampshire for the past four years. It is a lovely palce and I do miss it (but I love it here in Heidelberg as well)

Hi Hadley, it's George. I also wanted to say thanks for starting a thread for the kids, because that's what the cruise is really all about. Sean has been like a kid on christmas day ever since we told him about booking the cruise again. It's going to be a long 8.5 months. He is so excited to be able to talk with Marika and Rio. He comes home from school everyday and has to get right on the computer to see if she wrote back. I think it's great that they meet each other (in a cyber way) before getting on the ship, I'm sure they will have lots of fun together!
You also posed a great question to get this thread moving.
Myself and Sean: Captain Jackpirate:
George III: Will Turnerpirate:
Kath: Undecided (I asked her while she was watching "Survivor", so that may have something to do with her answer):happytv:
So how is the weather in Germany. I was stationed there in the north near Bremen when I was in the Army (back when it was east and west Germany). I really enjoyed it, when I wasn't freezing my butt off out in the field!

Weather in Germany right now is cold (about 2 degrees) and raining. It is supposed to be that way all next week and Marika has a class trip (which I am chaperoning) with all out of door activities planned. I am sooo not looking forward to freezing all week:guilty: Rio's calss trip is in June (I think his teacher is smarter:teacher:)
We are headed up to Wolfsburg tomorrow to pick up Dave's car from the VW plant (and tour the whole autostadt car amusement park thing--this apparently soudns very interesting to a guy:lmao:)--I will have to check a map and see if it is close to Bremen (we have only been here 6 weeks I am still getting oriented).

Sean is a Captain Jack fan also, your right he's in the lead! I remember the German winter's and I don't miss them at all. Being an infantryman I got to spend lots of time outside in those winter's. I had never seen snow that deep before.
One quick question. What is a fish extender?:sail:pirate:
Yes George III is my older son. He is 13 now and will be 14 by the sail date.

Hi Carmen,
It's George, I saw your post about staying in Disney either before or after the cruise. I would suggest staying the week before. On our first Disney cruise we did the 4 night Bahamas and got off the ship on a Thursday. We decided to stay the night at the Contemporary Resort and do the Magic Kingdom with the kids before driving home to Maryland. When we were on the ship I felt like being in a 5 star hotel and when we got to the resort it felt like checking into a Holiday Inn.
Another reason to consider is that you'll be in Florida and won't miss the ship sailing. We almost missed our second Disney cruise because my older son paniced so bad when we boarded the plane in DC, that we had to get off and wound up driving through the night to get to Port Canaveral and onto the ship.pirate::sail:

Hi George,
Thanks for clearing up who is who:goodvibes
Fish extenders are little hanging fabric pockets that pepole hang from the metal fish next to the door in the hallway. Other DISsers bring small trinkets (candy, homemade bookmarks or magnets, pens, all kinds of cool stuff) and leave it in the FEs as fun little surprises throughout the cruise. It is a balst to check the FE pockets and find new surprises. On our Double Dip last September there were TONS of DISsers on board. We would find treats on the way into the room, take then in, change clothes head out 15 minutes later and more treats would have already been delivered:rotfl2:
Here is an entire thread about them (with photos because I am sure you cannot visualize what I am talking about;)):
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607
Oh, Southern German winters are not nearly as snowy or cold as New Hampshire was, but in New Hampshire I did not spend nearly as much time outside when the weather was bad (here we have only one car so I am msotly on foot/tram). Today is was just above freezing and raining hard--not a fun walk home from the grocery store:scared:

Hi All,
Going back to the idea of flying in a few days/a week early. You've now convinced me (and I'm working on my DW) to fly in a couple of days early anyway. Based upon our group of 6 including my mom, the Fort Wilderness Cabins appears to be the best deal.
Has anyone stayed at the cabins? The option we're considering is to fly in on Thursday, arrive noonish, spend the day at the resort. Spend Friday at the Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom (or split depending upon preferences) and then head over to the ship on Saturday. We wouldn't get the meal plan as we'll eat enough on the ship anyway.
Any recommendations? Is that a good idea?

It's been 10 years since I stayed in the cabins but I can tell you the sleeping arrangements to see if they work for you. There is a double bed and a set of bunk beds in the bedroom and a fold down Murphy double bed in the living room. We did it with 3 adults and 3 small children so we were fine.

We stayed in the cabins on our first trip to WDW in 2004. We really enjoyed it. The sleeping arrangements were as Inkmahm stated and I would think they are still the same. There is also a full kitchen and a deck with a grill.
The resort area is a lot of fun. They have ponies the kids can ride, a little petting zoo and canoe rentals (I think there are other rentals too such as bikes). There is also a campground singalong with Chip and Dale. At the singalong, you can roast marshmallows, meet the characters and then watch a movie under the stars. We enjoyed it!
Have fun!

We're flying Southwest and their Dec. schedule won't be out for awhile. Right now, they're only booking through Aug 14. I think they only release 3 months at a time. Hopefully I'm wrong and the schedule will be out soon. I'm just hoping for a late Friday flight since hubby can not take off Friday. Right now, their latest flight out of Houston Hobby is 7:30 and that would be cutting it close for us. DH did inform work that he would like to catch a flight that night but he's starting a new program in July and it's hard to push too hard to get something you want with new bosses. We could take a different airline but that would mean higher fares and a trip to Houston International, something I would like to avoid. Hobby is so convenient because it is small and only 20 minutes from my house.
Just a warning about Airtran. They change flight times quite often. I had booked MIL on Airtran nonstop out of DFW for our Sept 08 trip to correspond with our SWA flights. I had us arriving and departing MCO within minutes of each other. A couple of months before our trip, I was checking to see if the price had decreased and noticed that her flights were totally eliminated. They put her on flights with layovers in Atlanta that were way off from ours. Her departure out of MCO was changed from 7PM to about 2PM (which could be a big problem for you!) Anyway, I asked them why we weren't notified and they said that there was a big chance that they would change again so they wait until just a few days before flying to notify customers of any changes. We took a refund and booked with AA. I have read on the transportation board of similar things happening quite often with Airtran. I know their prices are good and a lot of people love them but just wanted to give you the warning in case you didn't know. I would hate for you to book a departure the same day as arriving at port and your flight time be changed to some time that is impossible or difficult.

Thanks Carmie! I did not realize that about them.
We haven't booked yet, I'm also checking Jetblue and SW, but neither have schedules yet into December. Jetblue and Airtran have the luggage program with Disney, SW does not so that's why I'm leaning away from SW.
That may change pending prices when they are posted. I'm buying 6 one-way tickets home so I want a good deal.
One nice thing is that we dock back in the Cape on a Saturday that if Airtran changes anything on us, we have a day's flexibility on it before returning home.

Yeah, that's the one thing I don't like about SWA. However, since their rates are as cheap or cheaper than any other airline (for us anyway) plus NO checked bag fees, we save a small fortune flying on SWA.
