Merry Christmas to ALL! :thumbsup2 It is snowing here so I'm really thinking a cruise is needed soon. :lmao: Marci-how old will your boys be on the cruise? On our Mexico cruise the kids exchanged something from their state; Sierra (my then 7 year old granddaughter) had Colorado keychains with mountains on them and we had kids from Hawaii and Georgia and all over so we have lots of neat remembrances not only of the cruise but the kids that Sierra met and hung out with. Start thinking about it so when you see something that says Texas you can pick some up. :woohoo: Keep warm and have a Happy New Year! :dance3:

Hi Debby! My boys will be 13 and 10 on the cruise. We've done that same exchange the last couple of cruses and really enjoyed things from different countries, (Helen is from the UK) as well as different states.
Hi Helen! What's your weather like now? We were just at Disney for a few days after Christmas, and it was mid-80s, then turned very cold on our last day with windchill's in the 30s... then we arrived back in Texas to very cold weather there. What a reality check!
Well ladies, we can now say our cruise is next year! It doesn't seem quite so far away anymore!
Happy New Year to you all! :)

I just told my granddaughter who will be 11 on the cruise that your boys will be going and she is really excited :cool1: Sierra met some of the girls who were going on the Mexico cruise with us before the cruise at Club Libby Lu and they became really good friends (they still email each other) and had great hairdo's for the sailaway party.:cutie: We will be at DisneyWorld for about a week before the cruise so maybe the older kids could get together before - probably not Club Libby Lu :rotfl: Hopefully others will jump on board with us so we can get to know each other before the cruise. :woohoo:
Happy New Year to ALL!

Hi Helen! We've been cold, wet and windy. I'm so ready to see some sun! We've been gradually warming up, and they say it will get up to 70 today, then another cold front will come through and we'll be in the low 30s again tonight. It's the windchill that really gets to me. I'm a Texas girl -- I'm not used to windchills in the teens!
I hope you and your mother have a fantastic trip! Please post some pics when you get back!
On another note, have y'all been to any dog shows lately?
Debby -- have y'all had more snow?

We had snow yesterday brrrr its cold -5.
Two week countdown until Tunisia :cool1:
We've not been to anycomps since Dec. Our first one this year is March15th. I am currently waiting for Floss's season to start as we are going to mate her! SO i might have to deliver puppies! fingers x Her season is due any day:scared1:

The sun is shining today :cool1: but there is still snow on the north sides of the buildings where the sun doesn't hit. I'm busy planning our WDW stay before the cruise - we're thinking Wilderness Lodge Villas as they have a washer & dryer which would be great with 3 kids. Also trying to figure out transportation from airport to WDW to port and back - Disney or town car.
Any suggestions are welcome - we will be 4 adults & 3 kids.
Enjoy your February & Happy Valentine's Day to ALL!

Hi Debby! We've used Southern Elegance and been very pleased. The only other one we've used was Tiffany Town Car, and they left us at the port one year when we came in right after a hurricane when the port had no power. They picked up the highest bidder!

Hi all:wave2:
Yes I'm back from Tunisia!:beach:
I had a lovely holiday with my mam. The weather was a lot better than in the uk:thumbsup2
The hotel we stayed in was lovely and it had the most amazing ceilings and decorations. My mam and I made friends with a large group of people and we had a laugh every night.
The one thing that was uncomfortable was the amount of men trying to get you into their shop or cafe. They would all stand outside and shout at you whilst you were walking in the street. Also you would have them trying to put scarfs or beads on you and demand money. I was ok with it -my mam said I had my cross teacher stare on - but my mam found it very stressful . Saying that though it did not spoil the holiday.
I've included some photos of our holiday.
This was the ceiling and light in the reception of the hotel - I loved it

Good morning U.S. and good afternoon to Helen. This will be our 5th Disney cruise, and I'll be celebrating a birthday on it.
I'm CFO for a communications training company that trains people how to communicate through the media, presentation skills, or how to be a good ambassador for the company you work for.
I'll be on this cruise with my DH, DS 13 and DS10 (ages at time of cruise) and possibly some neighbors.
Join in with us and learn a little about the other people cruising. It's really fun to walk around the ship/Islands and see people that we have met. :)

Hello ladies!
Just talked to my folks and they've booked us for this cruise!
Traveling will be - my parents - celebrating their 50th wedding anniversery
Me and DH and kids DS 11 and DD 7 (when we cruise)
My brother and his wife. (well - she will be by then - they get married in Sept)
I am beyond excited - this is our first ever cruise and I'm sorta a rabid planner so I'm excited to learn all about Disney cruising!

The cruise DVD came today and I'm just waiting for my son to watch it (He's the other "disneyfreak" in the family).
We've got our room assignments and I bought the Birnbaum book.
I was considering getting the passporter too....have either of you ever used that?

Barbara -- welcome to our small but enthusiastic group! I probably already posted this earlier, but my sons will be 13 and 10 when we sail. Helen is a very experienced cruiser, so she'll be good for questions, and hopefully I can help with questions on sailing with kids.
I like the Passporter book much more than Birnbaum's.
Thanks for posting! :)

Even though I jumped ship I'm still watching you guys :lmao: I agree with Marci that the Passporter is wonderful for planning and the envelopes are great for writing down reservations, etc and then you have a place to make notes at night about the day. I'm planning on picking up the new Passporter in 2009 as they keep really current on excursions :cool1:

I think the passporter is the best guide book there is - I still read mine and this will be my er 6th cruise (I think)
However I have not done the Eastern before.

Finally got to watch the DVD today! My son and I are thinking about doing the parasailing in Castaway Cay! He frequently chickens out on things so we'll see. Knowing that we can go together may make him brave!
When they say "some sleep 4..." does that mean that only some of the staterooms have those bunk beds? While I'm keeping one kiddo with me and the other is staying in a connecting room with my folks, they'd both love to sleep in the bunk.

Hi Barbara,
Yes you are correct - only some of the staterooms will sleep 4 and consequently have the bunks.
Did you book with DCL ?If so you can email DCL you should be able to ask if your staterooms have the bunks. (If you know your numbers and are not GTY)If you booked through a travel agent you will have to ask them to find out for you.
If you do have the bunks let your stateroom host Know that you would like the bunks made instead of the couch bed and they will gladly do it for you.
Castaway Cay is my favourite part of the cruise. I must say I missed it when I did the Disney med cruise last summer.
Once again Welcome

My folks booked through AAA - I'll ask them to find out. We have our room numbers; I'll poke around and see if I can find anyone that stayed there!
I got a new cruise count down thingy in my signature! Woohoo!
My spring break is over tonight - and it's back to teaching tomorrow.
What's GTY?
thanks!
Barbara
Hi Barbara,
You could check here
http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/cr-staterooms.htm
If you go to stateroom reports see if your room numbers are there.
GYT- Sometimes people dont select a specific room but rather they book a category gty ( eg cat 10 GYT) which means guarenteed. Around 30 days before sailing they get their room allocated. It is guarenteed to be cat 10 but sometimes are upgraded to a higher category. - hope that makes sense;)
OH - I have a cruise thingy that doesn't show in my signature....dang.
Sorry not sure why your cruise thingy isn't working - although I noticed your photo - perhaps your signature is too big with your photo and cruise countdown?
Take care

Hi all,
I've been checking the price of our cruise and since I've booked it my category for 2 adults has gone up nearly $300:goodvibes (not including any flights, insurance or tranfers);)
I was lucky enough to get one of the SPR (Secret porthole Rooms, rooms that were origionally classified as cat 8 but then changed to cat 10 because of slight obstruction to the porthole) and I am chuffed to say that now a cat 8 room is just under $1000 more than I've paid - :cool1:
I feel like I've got a bargin -I never realised how much the prices go up. It will certainly be worth the wait:banana:

Isn't that a good feeling to know you got the best deal by booking early?
Sorry about the snow yesterday. We've had a few days of 70s, though Easter was a little chilly with windchills in the high 40s or so. It should be nice some more this week, so I'll try to send some :sunny: your way. Do you remember which restaurant the latest first seating starts in? I can't remember... I think we may stick with early dining again but want the latest early dining.

I'll keep a look at for the sun -it was snowing all weekend brrrrrr
Not sure about the dining rotation -I read on the main board that they are experiementing and changing some of the dinning rotations - I think the 2nd and 3rd nights are being repeated so instead of PLA its PLLA - although this is just an experiement.
This will be the first cruise where we'll have the early dining. All of our others have been late, although after our last cruise (med) we said we'd never have late again. It was probably just the servers we had, but we missed loads of things (sailaway party, pirate party etc) we were not leaving the dining room until 11pm :scared1: Often our main courses weren't served until well after 10pm. I even spoke to the head server (first time ever in 6 cruises) things did improve slightly.
so I'm actually looking forward to trying the early seating;)

No - haven't booked yet... keep getting on the website and forum about every other nite... my DH is a little nervous to plan so early I think...
I thought I read something about a 'fuel surcharge' could be or would be possible if you book after 3/31/08... I'm not sure if it was on the website/forum, or where it was now...
I'll keep working on the DH !

We're doing early dining - best for the kids I think.
I'm doing weight watchers to try to get a bit thinner for my brother's wedding in Sept. He and his wife will be on the cruise too. The bridesmaid's dress she picked out may actually be what I wear for formal night!
Finally feeling like spring here in PA!

Thom (Tom short for Thompson) and I (Monica) will be celebrating our 10th anniversary on the cruise. We are first time cruisers but very excited. We live in San Antonio, TX and will be leaving behind two darling but relentless dds age 3 and 5. I just hope to mainly relax and spend some quiet time with dh. We travel alone once a year but usually to fast paced cities and only for 4-5 days. I think we also have one of those secret rooms. At least that's what the agent said. We have late dining which is good for us since we will sleep in late.
Our friends think we are nuts for taking a Disney cruise sans kiddos. But I know that Disney always does things well.
Great to be joining you!

Hi Monica,
I'm not sure about the dolphin hotel , I know they prick up from boardwalk (as I've done it)
The buses usually pick up people from resort around 12:30pm (there is only one time for each resort)
Another option for people who want to do a park, there is a bus that picks up from the animal kingdom park - not sure of time though, I guess it would be around mid-day also.
It depends what you want to do - you could book an early character breakfast and then have a couple of hours.
We.ve used the bus transport 3x, but we prefer now to get a town car. The reason being, everytime we just ended up wasting the morning hanging around the resort waiting for the bus. ( we were too excited to go anyway or paranoid that we'd miss the bus !) My last cruise we got the town car to pick us up from resort @9am and we were at the terminal, by 10 and on the boat by 11:30. We'll probably do that again for this cruise.
Hope that helps

That link was VERY helpful. I think we will stick with the bus since it is our first cruise and we have been lost in cocoa beach before :sad2: . So looks like AK will be an option but we will need to stay at one of the resorts where they have bus pick up. I know for sure POR is since my girlfriend is doing land and sea next month. I will call to find out. Probably make sense to stay at a disney resort for ME. Kind of makes me nervous that I won't see my luggage get on the bus but maybe they do that ahead of time anyway seeing the 8 am ready time.
I am considering the romance package since it is our anniversary. But want to price other things as well since I love the spa and dh loves to dive. I hope diving is safe there. I need to stop watching Prime time and those horrible diving stories "lost at sea" etc.
Also, if you buy alcohol at a port then you can drink it on board but you just have to finish it or throw it out before you depart? Or do they keep it until the cruise is over?

Helen -- haven't you heard everything is bigger in Texas? ;)
San Antonio is a four and a half hour drive from Dallas, with no traffic. Factor in traffic in Austin, and we fly Southwest airlines instead of dealing with our interstate.

Monica -- Shirley at The Perfect Gift there in the Cape does wonderful baskets. I have her do sand pail baskets for my kids. She's a wonderful person, as well as a good business person. You might talk to her as well. DCL does have gifts, but they are pricey.
I believe the rule with alcohol is that if it's opened, you can't take it off the ship. Anything unopened is fine. We've only taken wine on board and haven't had to worry about it being left over... :rolleyes1

Marci-
You are smart to fly here. I can't even stand driving to the beach. Everything is far in TX. I will check out Shirley. Thanks for the tip. BTW I LOVE the Hill Country Hyatt. Their seafood buffet is really yummy and it's so beautiful out there. I am only 20 minutes from there, near UTSA and Fiesta Texas. I HATE FT though. My dh doesn't get how I can love WDW and hate FT. Sometimes the details are lost on him. :confused3
Helen-
We are staying in a secret porthole room. I was looking after you mentioned it and it is a fabulous deal. We are in room 5520.
I would love a veranda but the price is a little high.
I am a teacher. I think one of you mentioned you are too? I teach early childhood in public school. We have 3-5 year olds teacher's children who pay tuition and also children with special needs. My dd5 is in right now and dd3 will be there next year. It is sooooo rewarding and tiring. I am looking forward to the summer. We have 6 1/2 weeks left.
My mom and I are taking the girls to WDW for a week in June. I love staying at the dolphin. DH has too many deadlines to take off. He is an architect who owns a business with his father. They only have 2 other employees but are working on 6 or so projects right now. Although, he will be happy to be child free for a week so that he can ride is bike as much as he wants to. He is an avid cycler and rides over 100 miles most weeks.

Hi Monica,
You are round the corner to me!! Its alright though I don't snore:lmao:
We stayed in a cat 9 once but all the rest of the times its been cat 10 or 11's. We can't justifice the price of a verander especially since when we are board we are hardly ever in the room. Also the cost of our flights are equal practically to the cost of the cruise !
I am a teacher too-I work in year 1 (5-6 yr olds) However I only work parttime. This job I am job sharing a class, so I teach them the end of the week.
We dont break up until July 18th, so I'm counting down the days too!

No, I'm getting very excited too.
Is it cold as well as rainy? We've had rain off and on, but not as much as last Spring. The winds have been pretty bad, though yesterday was nice. It's been cooler (70s) which has also been great. This will take us in to the 80s again.

It's supposed to get in the mid to high 90's this week. Looks like we'll be swimming in the outdoor pool. Up until now we've been swimming at the school district's natatorium after lessons. So that will be nice. I have a feeling it's going to be another summer of record heat. We will be lucky if it stays under 101 for a few days in July and August.

Hi ladies!
School is out for me - graduation is tomorow. Summer school doesn't start until the 27th so my house may actually get cleaned....but honestly I'm not holding my breath!
Kids are in school until June 4. DH is going back for his masters degree starting in early June.....

I interviewed for a new job today. Not sure I really want it though. I love my school but am looking for less paperwork. I hope that things work out for the best which ever that may be? I hope that the principal can see past the fact that I have the best qualifications and see if I really am the best fit for the program. We'll, see come Monday. I don't know what I will do if they offer me the job? YIKES!

No - dang it. Jack going back to school is going to seriously crimp our money this year...or so...but it will be worth it in the long run. I've promised the kids that we will WDW it in 2010!

Good luck with the job decision. We aren't going again until December/January. :sad2: It will have been a year since we've been -- that's a long time for us. I got spoiled last year with two family trips, a work trip and a girls trip.
Helen -- how's the weather now? We were at 90 today and muggy, but tomorrow should be cooler.
Happy Mother's Day to the Mom's in the group, and to their Mom's. :)

Your dogs are beautiful!
I have a fat little mix dog (Bear) that is 12 years old. My girls love him. Luckily he is still in good health.
I did get the job and took it. I feel much better about it now. Change is always hard at first but I think it will be good for me. I won't start until August at the beginning of the school year.

Hi all,
I just thought I would offer this idea, I won't mind or be offended if you do not want to take it up.
Last year on my med cruise, one of the fellow diser's organised a meet- however it was brunch at Palo in the private room.
The private room is just off to one side in Palo, and we had our own server. This room holds a max of 13 0r 14 can't remember exactly.
It was a really great morning .
How it worked - they put a request into DCL and we found out about 30 days before sailing if we were successful. (They often keepthe room incase of VIP's)
In the meantime at 90 days we made our bookings - I actually managed to grab a Palo brunch. At 30 days out I had to cancel my booking when they said that the room was available. They wouldn't let me have 2 Palo brunches ;)
If anyone is intrested in doing this - let me know and I would be happy to organise it(or at least try to) - With it being in Palo it is over 18's only.
Let me know anyhow
Here's the photo of us (and me & Dave) at our brunch :goodvibes

We've actually not done the brunch. We had it scheduled once, but cancelled it because we were having fun with our boys and they weren't real big on the clubs at that time. They will be old enough when we sail next summer that they can choose to go to the clubs for a couple of hours, or stick together in the arcade or sports deck. The little Motorola radios work really well on the ship so I could keep close track of them, and they know the ship well as it will be their fifth trip.
Thanks again.

We would LOVE to join! Beware though my dh will make a total pig of himself. He feels it is his duty to try everything. Well except shellfish, that would not be pretty!
I know this is early to think about but:
Would we each need to make our own reservations for the specific date and then they would be linked later on, if available, to the private room? Or we could make res. for any date then if it is available cancel the original individual date?
Great idea! I'm glad I have veterans on my side.

Yes! Tomorrow is the last day of school!
I am very excited esp. since we leave for WDW in a week. My girls do not know yet. I am sending them a package from Cinderella with disney items and a letter inviting them. I am going to give it to them the day before. I plan to have the video ready for that one. DD5 thinks she doesn't get to go until she's 7.
I have a million things to do still. My dh is staying home and my mom is going with us.

Hi All,
I'm so sorry I've not had a chance to get on here recently, I'm into the last 5 weeks of school here in the UK and believe me its mad. We've got so much going on and ontop of everything its report time.
Ok in my absense I emailed the Dis'er who organised our palo brunch last year and asked him a few questions, he kindly replied the following;
Requests are reviewed approximately 30 days prior to sail date and needs a minimum 5 day business notice. Requests are subject to availability.
The following information should be included on the fax:
Reservation Number
Reason for request Brunch Private Room at Palo
Sail Date July 28th 2007 11 NIGHT Med cruise
Number of Guests 14 adults
Contact Name
Phone Number UK
Email and/or Fax Number
Hello can I ask for your help, I am on the above cruise it will be my fourth DCL cruise and I have another booked in 2008 The 8/17/2008 Repo.
I would like to ask you if a group of friends could reserve the private dinning area of Palos for Brunch one of the sea days. My preference will be for the first sea day after Barcelona. The 29th.
But if booked any sea day. The reason is we all post on the Disboards and have been posting on the cruise meets thread there getting to know each other, and would like to meet up at Palo’s.
I contacted last year and was told it was too soon, many of these cruisers will try to book Palos by themselves soon and to assist planning it would be nice to know if its possible in advance of this to ensure no double booking or clashes etc.
I would greatly appreciate you help and I can supply all of the confirmation numbers for the cruisers to help the booking.
So !
What I need to know if you would like to do this is;
Can you PM me the names of the people who would like to do this (I have 12 places)
Also if you don't mind the reservation numbers - I promise I will only include this in my fax to DCL and will not disclose it to anyone else.
As soon as I have filled the 14 places I will fax DCL. We will find out approx 30 days before sailing whether we have it - so make you own reservations at 90/75 days and if we get the group you will need to cancel them. I hope this is ok with everyone
Take care
best wishes Helenx

Under 400 days! My son asked if we could make our paper chain but I told him we needed to wait at least until after Christmas!
We make a paper chain and they tear off one for each day. Some of them have things to do to help get ready or just get into a Disney mood!

Hi ladies!
I've had an interesting summer. Disney was great and my 3yo still says daily that we need to go find our disney bus to Cinderella's castle. No concept of time and distance yet.
I got a huge shock (literally) a few weeks ago when our house had a huge power surge while I was touching the cable box. I'm fine but had a sore throat and my legs felt really funny. Our new TV, computer, phones, sleep number bed, and garage door openers were all fried.
Then the next week I gave myself a second degree burn on my arm with the iron. It was so bad that it didn't hurt, which was strange to see my arm like that with no pain. I actually didn't realize I burned myself at first. When it started to dry out the next day then it REALLY hurt.
So, I am not too superstitious but am a little nervous about what number 3 will be?
DH and I love baseball. We are actually driving to Houston this weekend to see our favorite Cubs play the Astros. SO yes, I think it's a great idea about the shirts.
As far as excursions go, we are going to do the biking one in St. Thomas, disney sponsored, and then DH is going to dive at Coki beach (not through Disney). DH rides bikes all of the time for mile and miles (like 70 or 80 on a Saturday and 40-50 on weekdays).
I would like to do the catamaran in St. Martin but still haven't decided for sure.
I just hope we get to book the ones we want since we don't get to until 75 days out. I guess if not we can book most of them on our own right?
I hope everyone is having a nice summer!

Monica -- that is so scary! You take care!
As for excursions, I have no idea. My boys love digging in the sand on the beach, so we will probably do that. As long as I have a book, a drink, an umbrella and chair, I like that too!
We are still spending all our time at baseball practices/games/tournaments, but that should be over on the 26th. I so need a break from evening/weekend events.
Have a great day everyone!

Hi all,
Just a quick message.
I am really upset, Floss my youngest dog has had a fit this afternoon. Dh was out with the 3 dogs when Floss ran past him with her head to one side she then totally keeled over. Dh screamed and the land lady of the pub where he'd parked his car came out. SHe took the other 2 dogs whilst DH picked up floss (who was stiff) and carried her to the car. He has taken her to the vet hosptial and she has come round and seems herself (although a bit down). The vets have carried out lots of tests and ran her blood and its all come back ok.
We have been told the next 24hrs are important to keep an eye on her. I am really shock up. I know to some people there just dogs but they are my family as I can't have chn.
To top it all we are supposed to be going away for the weekend as we have tickets for a concert. This we have had to miss.
I had been so excited about going away now IM sitting crying. worrying.
Sorry for blabbering on
Take care

Hi Marci,
Thank you so much for your kind words, you dont know how much I appreciate them.
Floss seems to be herself again today. However the vet has said the next 24-48 hrs are critical. I've finished school today, but I don't have the end of term happy buzz.
I will update you later.
Once again, thanks again its a great comfort knowing there is someone who I can talk to (even if its just typing).

Hi
Thank you so much for your support and prayers -it has been such a comfort.
Just got back from vets. Floss has recovered from her fit. She has also made it through the crucial 48hrs without having another one.
All the blood tests have come back normal.
Now we dont no whether this was a one of (which the vet said it could be) or the onset of epilepsy. It all depends if she has any more.
It did give both Dave and myself a real fright. It was a horrible weekend but I'm glad its over.
Thankyou again for your kindness.

Re - excursions...
Maybe it is because we are first time cruisers but nothing that is off of the boat seems really exciting to me yet.
My son (10) wants to fish and so does my dad so I'm sure they'll be doing that at some point.
I also told him that we'd parasail at Castaway - he's pretty thrilled about that.
DH wants to snorkel, I guess DS does too.
Any recommendations??

I'm so excited as I've paid my cruise off today :thumbsup2
I thought with the exchange rate being so good for us ($2 for £1) - I would bite the bullet so to speak.
With the credit crunch I did not want to risk the exchange rate dropping before I'd paid.;)
What was really funny - I have the DCL horn as my sound effect telling me when I've got email. So Im on the phone to the CM from DCL when the horn goes telling me about Marci's posting. The CM thought it so funny that she could hear the horn all the way in th UK :lmao:
Well we are going away tomorrow for a two week trip in our Motorhome (RV) Just need to pack it up this afternoon. Fingers x that it won't rain too much and that all the dogs manage a week with out illness.
Take care

Helen,
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet dog. Bear had something like that once when his tongue was just hanging out staring into space then he couldn't stop panting and his heart was racing. They actually gave him vallium which made him act drunk, poor guy. This was MANY years ago and nothing like that since. Hopefully it will be the same for Floss.
My oldest went to Princess Camp today at her dance school. My youngest almost had a fit when she heard sister was having a Princess Lunch. I know she thought she was having lunch at Cinderella castle because later she said "OK, now we go get sister at the castle." I felt bad for her so we made cupcakes. Pink and blue icing did the trick.
I wish my trip was paid off. We aren't going to pay for ours until dh gets his Christmas bonus. I guess at that point we will put in extra to cover all of the expenses onboard. Anyone know what they do if you have money left over?
Hope everyone has a nice weekend. I am having a girlfriend's weekend. The five of us are staying at my friend's house on the river and visiting some Texas wineries.

The last of our passports came today! Now we can go!
We're heading up to visit my parents in western NY next week, we might go to Niagara Falls and give the passports a test drive. We don't really need them (yet) to get into Canada but they should make it easier.
Wow - I remember when you just sorta waved at the border guards and drove thru. Those days are gone.

:rotfl: I've put money on our account for expenses ahead of time but never had any left over so I can't help you. Hopefully someone else will answer you.
Sounds like a terrific girls weekend! We finished up an AAYBA world series tournament in Flower Mound this past week. Baseball is finally over for the summer. About time, as it was 105 yesterday...

Congrats on the passports arriving!
I needed some form of ID for the world series tournament my son was just in. I started to use the passport, instead of the original or certified birth certificate but was afraid I would forget to get it back and we are taking a quick trip out of the country later this week. It would be just like me to forget to get it back or not be able to find the coach.
Helen -- congrats on paying off the trip! Unfortunately for U.S. citizens, it doesn't look like the dollar will rebound any time soon. Our economy stinks over here, and with the jump in gas prices over the last year, it isn't going to get better any time soon, but I don't blame you for not taking a gamble.
Depending on what the exchange rate is next year, you might just bring empty suitcases and buy everything here before you leave on the cruise. I have a Brit friend from another thread and that is what she and her husband do.

Hi all,
Just checking in from our holiday.
Things are really good -surprisingly the weather has been great. We've only had a couple of showers yesterday.
We were at a flyball competition yesterday and had fun -Floss and daves' team came 2nd their division, whilst Ben and my team came first in our division. so there was only a little gloating last night. :rotfl:
The good news is
This time next year we will be on the magic :cool1: :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2:
I hope you are all having a great summer

Hi Guys,
Well we got back from our holiday last night - The weather really held out for us which was great!
Ok
So I've spent all day assembling some new shoe racks (4 )and I still do not have enough storage for my shoes. (i've ordered another 2)
How I would love to have a big walk in wardrobe like you have in America -:goodvibes
Well as I've been sorting I've had stuff all over the bedroom. hall, den etc
(I dont think Dave knew I had that many;) He said are all women like this?
Well I know my mam and my aunties are (must be gentetic)
I have about 30 pairs of boots and about 60 pairs of sandals / shoes -
Do you think I have a problem:lmao:
Dont get me started on the bags - I have nowhere to put them :headache: currently every door handle in my house has a bout 5 hung on them.
Just wondering where do you stand on this subject am I alone in my problem;)
Take care H
PS when I cruise I limit myself and bring 10 pairs of sandals / shoes - which is hard.
marcij

You are not alone! I only have a few pairs of boots, since we aren't very cold here, but I have tons of shoes/sandals. I'd guess well over 200 counting crocs. I don't have that many purses -- the ones I buy are pricey so I don't buy very often, but I do have tons of backpacks of all sizes and tote bags. I try to defend my purchases by talking about how many hats my hubby buys, but he always points out the price difference...:confused3
I'm glad you had a great holiday Helen.

Thanks Marci-
Well its nearly getting to the time when I can book my flights and DVC portion of our holiday. I have been planning it like a military operation:lmao:
We are hoping (if all works to plan and we get the reservations we want ) to do this.
July 19th Fly to Orlando - (stay @ BWV) 5 nights till 24th
24th July fly to NY - stay for 6 nights till 30th
30th July fly back to WDW (stay @ SSR) until cruise
we are going to have 1 final night @ WDW after the cruise
fly home 9th August arrive 10th
There are still quite a few uncertainities but these are out of our control
We are waiting for DVC to announce their conceirge collection for 2009 - hopefully when they do they will still have the Loews Regency hotel NY as we would like to book this for our NY part.
We've never taken a domestic flight in the USA -is it a relatively simple- how far out do you normally book?
Oh well got to go and get some work done
Take care

Helen - that sounds like a dream vacation!
When I book flights I usually look about six months out - and it seems the earlier I book the better deal I get. Whenever I decide to put it off for a bit it always costs me more!
I've got about 2 weeks before we are all back to school. DH is working on his Masters degree this year - and should be all finished with it by cruise time! I'm directing a show and teaching four classes (which is an overload of one course) Plus doing at least 2 individual instructions!
Mom and Dad are hoping that my brother and I throw them in a 50th party in June (the actual date of their 50th) so I need to start saving for that too. Not sure exactly what they are expecting though!
Liltx
08-24-2008, 04:13 PM
I do not have that many shoes but DH does. He collects Vans, Nikes, and also sunglasses and skateboards. He is such a girl. We had a tax free weekend and I bought 5 pair of shorts, 4 pants, 13 shirts, 2 dresses, one purse, 2 sunglasses, one bra, and 5 necklaces for just at $300. It was so much fun!
I usually buy our tickets around 4-5 months in advance. We always fly southwest when we can because they will refund the money if your flight goes down in price. They also do not charge any baggage fees. We never take one than 2 bags for our whole family but I still like the fact that they do not hide fees.
I started school this last Monday so things are busy here. The kiddos are fantastic and I am already have a great and exhusting time!
I plan to go to New York with my mom in May but still haven't talked to Thom about it. He will be fine with it but I feel guilty that he takes less han have the vacations I do and gets stuck with the child care. Still my parents do pay for most of them. This one will only cost me around $1000. How often can you go to New York for that much?

Hi all,
Well summer is nearly over here -I go back to school on Monday.
I've started having the back to school nightmares already -Although I must admit, above my desk at home I have a large wall calander and I cross off each day until I get to the summer.
I have booked my first 5 nights with DVC staying at boardwalk:goodvibes
Just waiting till I can book my flights to USA -wont be long now
Dave says I spend my life counting down days:laughing:
I just got this info from a recent thread on the board
I spoke with DCL again today and got a much more knowledgeable CM to help me. She confirmed that the rotations (for the EC) are 1231231, as follows:
PLAPLAP (these would be at 6:00 and 8:30)
LAPLAPL (these would be at 5:30 and 8:00)
APLAPLA (these would be at 5:35 and 8:15)
Pirate night for the EC would be night 4. The attire course would be as follows:
Cruise casual, formal, cruise casual, pirate, cruise casual, semi-formal and cruise casual.
I hope that this is helpful. Now I just have to remember all of this when making a Palo reservation.
What sitting does everyone have?
This will be the first time in 5 or is it 6 cruises that we will have main (early) sitting. We have always had late and I'm looking forward to the change.
Oh well I'd better go as I'm off to the schools library service to pick up some books for school next week - our topic is Monsters;)
Any Lurkers please feel free to join in our discussion - you are more than welcome!:goodvibes

Helen -- didn't you just get out of school? It seems like a short break... Thanks so much for the info. We always have early dining, since we've cruised since the kids were young, but am thinking of switching so we don't have to get ready for dinner so early. Why did you decide to switch -- just for something different?
How are you, Dave and the other fur babies doing since Sally's passing? I've been thinking of you. :grouphug:

Hi Marci,
We get 6 weeks summer break here in the UK.
We also get 1 week end of Oct
2 weeks for christmas
1 week middle feb
2 weeks for easter
1 week end of may
To be honest I think I will be glad to get back to school. This year's holiday has been a bit of a downer really. Sally died 2 days before my birthday so we didn't really feel like celebrating that.
We are looking forward to next year!
We switched because the last time we had late dinner (granted it was on the med cruise and our servers were poor) it took ages we were not leaving the dinning room until after 10.30pm. We missed the sailaway party and couple of nights we had not had our starter until after 9pm.
This was on the med and not the norm but as we booked this cruise the day it opened we decided to try early. We have requested that we get the 6pm sitting (not sure if this will come through though.)
How are things in Texas? By the way (off topic) but when do you guys vote on the new president - its all over our news?
Oh we have decided we are going to breed Floss the vets have given us the ok - so we are just waiting for her to come into season.

Hi ladies!
I started teaching on Monday, my husband went back on Tuesday (he's getting his Master's this year) and the kids started today. It feels good to get back into a schedule. Sometimes the "freedom" of summer gets a little too sloppy for all of us.
We had some sad news last week when our old man kitty "Groucho" had to be put down. Jack actually thought he died in his sleep but he was just paralyzed - his liver had shut down. We all spent some time with him and even the kids wanted to stay in the room when he got the shot. Bennett is still crying every night. We got his ashes today and the ashes are staying in Bennett's room.
In happier thoughts....
We are eating in the early rotation for the kiddos.
Helen - we vote in November for the president.

Ah -- that makes sense. You get a lot more time off during the school year.
We usually request the last early rotation, so hopefully we will be eating at the same time!
Texas is good -- but HOT! At least we're not currently 100 or over, but the humidity is ridiculous right now.
You are probably hearing a lot about the election since politics here in the States is gearing back up. The Democrat Party is having their convention to officially announce their ticket now, and the Republican's start their convention this weekend.
Good luck breeding Floss!
Barbara -- I'm sorry about Groucho! Sending PD for everyone, but especially for Bennett. :grouphug:
Good luck to all the teachers -- I appreciate the profession immensley! We have been lucky to have great teachers and since my kids have learning differences and are in a private school, I have had the opportunity to get to know them a little better than probably most parents would with kids in a public school.
For those in the States, have a fun and safe Labor day weekend. Helen -- I hope you and Dave have a terrific weekend, too!
MsLeFever
08-28-2008, 09:05 AM
Marci - I have never heard the expression "learning differences" before and it is a great one! Bennett has ADD and, we just learned on Monday something called "convergence insufficiency" which means that his eyes don't work together at close range.
In short, it seems that he can't focus because he can't focus! The opthomologist said that his vision correction alone really didn't require glasses but that glasses might help the focus issue. He gets his glasses next week and then we'll see.
He's having that "start of school optimism" right now - that "I can get all As this year" feeling. I hope that he hangs onto it for awhile!
marcij
08-28-2008, 09:42 AM
Barbara -- I hope the glasses help, and that with that his "ADD" is gone!
My boys are both ADHD (my oldest is very hyper and my younger son is more of the hard to focus and sometimes impulsive type) and dyslexic, and my oldest also has a verbal expressive disorder, so he takes both private and group speech. We have the largest school in the nation for bright children with learning differences here in Dallas, and Randy and I feel fortunate to be able to afford to send our kids there. Educators come from all over the world to train at the school and speech center.
So, this is what my salary goes to -- school and trips!
This year is a real turning point for Andrew. He just started in the middle school division, and the homework is already much harder. They haven't given out grades before this year -- it's all been on if they've turned it in, and if they are progressing at their own rate. We have conferences three times a year, plus the teachers e-mail and call regularly if there are any problems. With sixth grade, they start grading and giving more tests, plus he'll have mid-terms and finals.
He's real nervous about it and so am I! He's been transitioned out of the Association reading program in to Alphabetic phonics, which means he's doing well, but he's a little lost in his AP class now since the method is so new.
Whew -- didn't mean to write a book.
Anyway, good luck to Bennett with his glasses!
Liltx

I hope everyone's kiddos have a great year at school. My oldest started kinder and my youngest started the program I teach just at a different school. Next year I will probably have her in my room.
I have had children in my special needs classes with ADHD that affected their learning so much. I can't imagine what it feels like to not be able to control your body and your mind. Even with medication some of them struggle so much. I know it is super exhusting for their parents as well.
Sounds like you have a wonderful school though.
I have been burning the candle at both ends lately. I do have to say that my children are just precious and their parents are wonderful. 3 and 4 is a great age! But now you know why I am tired. We have 16 of them!
I am so looking forward to the cruise! It will be just before I go back to work next year.

Hope you all had a good week last week. I got through it ok - new class think will be quite difficult as I have a couple of lively characters. Its also very hard the transistion between reception and year 1.

This is why we love going to wdw and have the disney blues when we skip a year.

Just wondering if you are expecting a ton of rain from Ike? We will probably not get one drop. My husband actually wants to go to Houston when the Astros/Cuns double header is rescheduled. I told him he could take his own fool self over there. We have a ton of neighbors with family in town. My aunt and uncle stayed but live on the west end of houston and still boarded up. We haven't heard from them yet but I'm sure they are fine. It's so strange watching it on TV and knowing it's only a short drive from us.

Monica -- yes we are getting quite a bit of rain and the trees are all dancing around. So far, nothing too horrible, though it's raining sideways so all the windows I just had cleaned are going to need to be re-done. I can't complain if that's the only thing that happens.

A note about Spanx, they are wonderful but if you are on the edge between sizes go with the smaller size. If they are too big they don't work at all.

Good morning! My brother's birthday is tomorrow too! He's getting married on Saturday so I have a big long list of things to accomplish this week.
I need a new strapless bra and I'm thinking of trying spanx. I have to get my family's hair all cut and mine dyed, finish making the favors......well and teach and such.
I hope everything is falling in to place. Have fun at the wedding!
How strange! My brother's birthday is on Wednesday!
A note about Spanx, they are wonderful but if you are on the edge between sizes go with the smaller size. If they are too big they don't work at all.
I have a funny wedding story (well not funny at the time). My dh's cousin was getting married and we were running late as usual. We'll we walk in late and as soon as we sit down dh's phone goes off. Soooo embarrassing right? What could be worse you ask? It was a Catholic church and his phone was playing the theme song to the Exorcist! NICE!
Have a great week!

So...I tried the Spanx, hated them. I don't know I just felt squished. So - the boning in the dress is going to have to do!
Bennett's eyes are improving! The doctor said that the glasses are helping to force his eyes to focus close up and he doesn't need any other therapy at this point! So - between the ADD meds and the glasses I'm hopeful that school is going to start getting easier.
Now we are working on his temper. I'm afraid that DH and I don't always model good temper control ourselves so it is a family project!

Hi :welcome: to our thread
If you check back on page 1 you will see a list of who is cruising.
You will love the 7 night- I think it is more relaxed than the 3 / 4 night cruises ( I have been on 6 or 7 cruises of varying length)

When I first found the thread, I just jumped in. I've now had the chance to go back and read it, but I'm not totally familiar with all the players.
If I've gotten this right, Monica - I'm totally jealous of your taking the cruise w/o kids. Please understand, I LOVE mine, but I'm also loving the idea of setting them in the Oceaneer Club and Lab and heading off for some quality snorkeling!
Stuff people might want to know. DD will be 8 nearly 9 (I think someone has a 7 yr old girl.) DS will be 5.
FWIW, I honeymooned in St. Maarten. The butterfly house was amazing - however, the butterfly house in St. Thomas is brand new, owned by the same organization and supposedly in walking distance of the port - so if anyone is interested in butterflies, I can give a qualified recommendation.
Also, as snorkeling goes, do people recommend the family beach or adult beach on CC?
Thanks again!

Hi! Cool - another teacher. I teach theatre and humanities to college students and occasionally also work with middle schoolers. I'm the poster with the 7 year old girl - her b-day is in Oct so she'll still be 7 when we cruise but I'm going to move her up an age group so she'll be with your daughter. I've also got a 10 year old son who will be 11 when we said. PLUS we just live on the other side of PA which is neat.
Jack and I used to live in Allentown - and are now in Pittsburgh.
After your kids are "in the know" maybe they can exchange letters with mine!

My Dad teaches secondary Ed and now runs the theatre program at Cabrini College - near Villanova PA. My daughter, whose bday is _also_ in Oct., has become a HUGE theatre (musical) addict thanks to him. She's seen the final tour of Cathy Rigby in Peter Pan; Wicked -Twice; Annie; the new Dr. Doolittle; Lion King and Little Mermaid. (Yes, my Dad is well versed in the meaning of spoiled.) In fact, my Dad is putting on _Once on this Island_ in the spring and hoping to have Alison win the role of one of the young Ti Mounes. -Please forgive my bragging.
When we did the 4 day cruise last year, two of the kids club cast members who came out to greet us in the terminal were blown away at the thought that a 6 yr old's favorite musical was Wicked. It certainly leant itself to some instant bonding!
As for the kid's clubs, your kids might help Alison to move to the older room. She kinda likes to hang with her younger brother - who also clings to her! But I'm sure that Alison would be happy to exchange letters - or even emails. My husband is a professional geek (programmer) - so we own our own domain and Alison has her own email account!
Ok, I'll try to stop babbling for now. Glad to hear from you, Ms. LeFever! And go Phillies!!!

1) It's nice to have "outside" support. (The curse is that no Phila. sports team has won a championship since the city permitted buildings to be built taller than city hall and William Penn's hat. Compared to most modern cities, Philly is very "short" - only about half a dozen sky scrapers.)
2) It's also nice to hear you say Happy Halloween. Have we exported that holiday now across the pond, or is it still an American thing?

We have always celebrated halloween -or at least the last 30 yrs or so since I was a young girl;) however we tend not to do the trick or treat thing like you. Oh and only those with chn tend to do something -its not normal for adults to do anything -
November the 5th is a big celebration over here
5th November - bonfire night in the Uk- it celebrates when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the houses of parliment back in 1605 (see http://www.bonfirenight.net/) so a lot of people buy fireworks and set them off at this time of year -we've heard a few so far - but the majority will be next week. Bad time for pets:confused3

She is the most confident pup I've ever known. Dear Helen,
I'm also on board with stingrays at CC. Earlier I mentioned that the butterfly house on St. Maarten is wonderful. However, there is a new one that opened in St. Thomas that is supposed to be right near the pier and easy to get to on one's own. :thumbsup2
I'm hoping to do a lot of snorkeling. I do want to get our kids off the boat when I can, though. We are again traveling with 3 generations, so it's a bit tricky finding things for all of us. Plus, on the four day cruise, I learned _just_ how much Disney charges us for the priviledge of making the reservations for us, so I may try to book some things on my own without their help. :rolleyes1
My MIL did Discovery Cove last year. I'll see if I can post some of her pictures. She loved swimming with the dolphins. There is a sneaky secret that I know about snorkeling in their lagoon that I'll share if you want me to, but otherwise I'll let you find out for yourself. ;)
And the puppy is GORGEOUS. I hope that all of you are well and happy!

I'm making a pumpkin pie today! Using Martha Stewart's recipe for it - which includes chocolate - yum.
Usually pumpkin pie has a fair amount of brown sugar which makes it desserty - but it isn't a very sweet dessert. Here's Martha's

Oddly - I'm also making sweet potatos that call for bourbon and brown sugar - but they are considered a side dish and not a dessert!

Helen -- I'm sorry you have been sick. I have another friend from the UK, and she also had the flu lately. I asked her about a drug we use over here in the states --Tamiflu. If you start taking it 24 -48 hours after you come down with the flu, it will cut your recovery in half. She said she had never heard of it. I wonder if it's not an accepted drug in the UK? Anyway, I hope you feel better ASAP and get all those presents wrapped. I'm pretty much through.

Hello all! I just finished all of my shopping! Now - that is not to say that I might not....
crap - I just remembered something else I need....but it is only gift cards so it isn't like I need to search for something!
Mom and Dad are coming here for Christmas so now I need to get the place clean. It doesn't matter if you could eat off the floors though, my mother will come in and start cleaning something. It doesn't bother me - she never really cleans at her place (she has a cleaning lady) and she only does it here to "take care" of us.
I bought pashminas for her and Anne (SIL) to take on the cruise if it gets chilly!

It is sweet that you are interested. This was actually my Dad's surprise. He booked this when cruising last summer. He told the kids that he had only one present for them, and that it was the same. (VERY unusual for him - he typically goes WAY overboard for xmas - this year being no exception and all puns intended!)
Anyway, he gave them each DCL baseball caps - very cute - "Disney" embroidered in the 'clothes' of the DCL characters. The kids unwrapped the hats and he said they were for them to wear when we took the cruise next summer. My 5 year old was pleased, but I'm not exactly sure how much of it he gets. My 8 yr old daughter got very excited and reacted just as we'd hoped she would.
Now we're all pretty excited and hoping to begin the real planning. On Christmas day my Dad asked if I had checked out the excursions and was there a dolphin encounter. I haven't looked since early fall, but I'm not keen to spend that much on a 10 hour tour. I don't really think that my kids. myself or the grandparents are really up to that long a day for 1 hour with the dolphins. Please let me know if I'm wrong on that score.
Happy New Year!:tinker:

I deliberately avoid taking kids out of trips for that reason. That, and as a HS teacher, I can't honestly say that there are too many experiences that justify missing a full day of school. I hope that you do have fun, though. May I ask where in Philly you are going?

Bennett and I also made time to see the Liberty Bell, Independance Hall, Ben Franklin's house (what there is of it), the Constitution Museum, Franklin's grave, oh - and Robert Morris' Statue (I teach at Robert Morris Univ. so that was a must)
Bennett was going to miss 4 days of school but the weather cancelled 2 of those so he actually ended up being DAYS ahead on homework!

Those of you with kids - Bennett would love to start a penpal friendship with someone that will be with his age group on the cruise - he'll be 11 next week. Anyone interested or available?

What a fun surprise!

Hello fellow cruisers,
We will also be on the August 1st cruise with you all. We are looking forward to it and we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary, as well as winding down after the wedding of our daughter on July 18th.
My DW is disneymom8589 and she will be told about this thread when she comes home tonight.
Does anyone know how many Dis'ers are going on this cruise so far?

:beach: Hi gang,
I wanted to check who was going and it looks like there are six groups so far.party:
We look forward to meeting everyone on the cruise. We will be flying in Friday night, July 31st, and our friends, who moved to Florida a couple of years ago, will pick us up and open their home to us for a night. In the morning they will take us to the Disney Magic bright and early.
This will be our third cruise, but our first seven day cruise. We found on the three day cruises we were always on the move and never did get time to relax like we wanted to. This time we will relax and not do as many excursions, maybe just catch the local scenery and shops. After all, how many times can you look at the same fish while snorkling?
I am also looking forward to wine tasting, taking tours of the ship, backstage of the plays, etc. And reading on deck, with a beverage close by, and on the adult side of the fence.:beach:
So now the official hello to MrsJobba1, marcij, MsLeFever (good luck this weekend..I do have to root for our brothers in the NFC West as I am a Seattle Seahwak fan and I hold nothing against Pittsburgh fans, or the Steelers), Liltx, and Joycsk.
See you in a few months.

My daughter is 8 and she would be happy to correspond. She does have her own email address if anyone wants that privately, or we could try actual snail mail. A welcome to our newest members. FWIW, Dave, my MIL's friend Jean will also be relaxing after the wedding of her daughter, so go figure!
I'm also _really_ excited to state that on our snow day last week, I booked a non-Disney excursion in St. Thomas and my crew will be swimming with sea lions! I'm totally stoked!
On a last note, Barbara, I'm glad that the Philly trip went well. That DoubleTree will forever be the Hershey Hotel in my minds. I often park there when going to the Academy. I adore Franklin Court, and while I've not been there on my own to really look around (I've only chaperoned field trips), the NCC does seem to be really great.
Here's to summer and then end of SNOW!

Many thanks! My son's birthday is between us. Funny how small coincidences go. Some day I may want to ask you about DVC. We have close friends who belong. I'm very tempted, but like everyone else, now is not the time to make a long term committment.
Happy almost Friday!

I'd enjoy sharing anything you might want to know. We joined 2 1/2 years ago and haven't regretted our decision. You're right, though, about making sure the timing's right. Hope to meet you on the cruise. :)

Dear Helen,
FWIW, in case future travelers want to know, my dks are a dd8 and a ds5. I would love for us to set a time to meet, but when is the boat drill? Somehow I thought that was at 3pm. I don't care 2 hoots about the sail away party (which is usually too loud and crowded for my family) but I did plan to hit the pool after lunch since I'd read it wasn't crowded until after the drill.
I feel like I'm babbling. . .
Here's to August - oh, and similar to scubad and disneymom, we are flying in on the 31st but staying at the airport hotel.

Hi Joy,
The boat drill is @4pm and then the sailaway party is 5pm when we leave.
I thought 3pm as most people will be on aboard by then. After the sailaway you are in to dinner times as they begin 5.45. But I'm happy to see what others think - I'll go with the flow so to speak. Any suggestions would be fine with me.
We fly to the states on July18th (which is incidently 159 days) not that I'm counting or anything.
Our last time to the states was in 2006 when Dave and I cruised with Marci. This year in the middle of our holiday we are having 6 days in New york - some where we have always wanted to visit.
This is a dream vacation and I really can't wait.pixiedust:

3pm sounds great to me! We are flying in early on the first - at least that's the plan. Hoping to find something direct from Pittsburgh.
We are having a springlike day today here - not that I expect it to last!

If 3 pm is good for all, then I'll be there. We can leave Grammy with the kids for a few! As for NY, my parents are big theatre buffs, and even own in the only NY timeshare in existence. If you are interested, I can probably forward any ?? you might have to my Mom. (My Dad would be happy to answer, but he's a professional work-a-holic. My Mom is more officially retired and might have the chance to answer. I don't think I can get her signed into disboards - she only learned email last year - but I can certainly act as a go-between.)

Hi Joy,
Thanks for the offer. I am so looking forward to NY, it is somewhere we have always wanted to visit. We have made some really good dis friends over the years and we are having a big reunion - we are going for a meal and hopefully see a show on broadway.
Looks like 3pm is good for the meet.
Do you want to do a gift bag exchange? We all bring one gift bag of somthing from where we live and then we exchange it.? Just a thought.
Take care x
