Hi Steve!

At this point I'm on this cruise too....myself and a good friend. Also in a renamed Cat 7. Late dining.

Only reason to cancel this is if we end up doing something in Europe, but we can't research this until next year.

Just waiting for DU to get back to us with a quote:)

Hey, great minds think alike!!

I'm just excited to go somewhere new! I'd already been to St. Croix (went to USVI's on honeymoon 18 years ago).

We are also doing Hawaii for the first time in 2009, so I have 2 great trips for that year!

By the way, that is the COOLEST animation in your signature! I'm sitting there looking at it, going "Hey...that's the Contemporary...that's the TTC...that's the Poly..." etc.

Yep, I don't think we have ever booked a Disney cruise this far out. We have one coming up in 2008, and other trips happening before Sept 2009.

Normal people (those who don't obsess about Disney :rotfl: ) must think we are all crazy to be excited about a trip that is almost 2 years away!

We're skipping DCL in 2008. :scared1: :scared1:

We do have trips, though before this one. In April, we're doing 7 nights at Disney World and we are looking at possibly cruising back to Bermuda next fall.

If everyone would like, I can continually update the first post with a list of everyone on this cruise. Just list the names of everyone in your party with kid's ages(?) if you haven't done so already and I will begin to update it later tonight. :)

I will OVER packed, as always, so I will share my clothes with you.. :thumbsup2 I always over pack for the cruise, because I know when I put an outfit on, I'm not going to like it and have to change into a back up outfit.. :sad2:

Oooohhh, we love DL and DCA. We went there for the first time last year, and loved it. It was fun seeing what was similar and what was different from WDW. And I know alot of people don't like DCA, but we loved it.

Okay, We are in....Once DH and I saw that DCL is going to Tortola, we decided to cancel the trip to WDW next September and wait and go on the cruise in 2009. I am sad that we are cancelling next year, but we are just so excited to go on another Disney Cruise!! (Hmmmm..how can I talk DH into letting me take DD down for a few days next year ;) ) It will be myself, DH, DD (8 at the time) and DS (3 at the time). DS(18 at the time) will be in the Air Force, so he will not make this cruise with us....Bummer.

We are not going to book until after Christmas...but this is very exciting!!!

My DD and I just got off the Magic last weekend (with Pfishgirl and Ragdoll).

My DSis and her friend sailed with us and want to go again in 2009. I'd done a dummy booking onboard, which I planned to trsfr to 2010, but when I saw the great rates for this cruise, I went for it! (Plus DD was horrified at the idea of no Disney Cruise in 2009!:scared1: )

DSis wanted another Secret Verandah room, like she had last week, but of course they are gone. So if any of you do cancel, please let me know so I can tell her one may be available.

My DD will be 11 at cruise time. In the meantime we're doing the DVC member cruise in Sept 2008.

Did everyone see that DU is offering a double OBC between now and Dec 31st??

Booked the same cabin as last time too (6628). :thumbsup2 Too bad 9/09 is so far off. Almost three years will have passed between cruises when we go again. Ugh! :guilty:

Can't wait. It'll be our first time sailing the eastern Caribbean. Looking forward to "meeting" everyone here first.

Oh yes she had a blast! The week went by so quickly, we couldn't believe it was time to get off the ship. She and my sister-in-law kept trying to come up with plans to stowaway for the next sailing!

I'm sure if she wasn't holed up in the bedroom with cookies and Disney Shows/Movies on the TV (in English no less), she would've been more willing to join us. :happytv:

I may see you in the laundry room Stacy! I'd been waiting for DCL's computers to come back up so I could see if they had a 2BR suite avail, and check on the pricing. Right now we're in a Cat 3, and DSis is in a Cat 7. But now I'm thinking maybe a B2B is in order :scratchin

I'm jealous.. DH asked if I wanted a suite but since it is just the 2 of us, I said it is ok that our 6 should be fine.. However, I am really thinking that Tub would be awesome to have ;)

Plus being able to order from the dining room menu from dinner - especially the second week. And don't forget the hot breakfast.....

If you decide to move to the suite, do it now while the prices are so low...they will be going up soon!

We were on the 7 day New Year's cruise. The captain stopped the ship right before midnight and we welcomed the New Year in the middle of the Gulf. Everything was great until coming early Wednesday AM when we hit 20-30' foot waves and gale force winds which lasted for two days. Disney and a NCL ship were the only two ships that could stay in Cozumel because we were docked they closed the port for tendering due to the wind. Plus they cancelled all the excursions. Even our Castaway day was chilly with some rain. Of course the sun was shining when we got back to the port on Saturday!! :lmao: :lmao: Still had a great time despite the weather conditions.

Which 4 day are you on in Sept? DD and I are going on the DVC Member Cruise on Sept 21st. Our past 4 DCL cruises have all been on the Magic, so it'll be nice to see the Wonder for a change. (Although we are also not looking forward to getting off so soon after boarding.) We'll be at AKV 14-21 Sept. Will you be at WDW during that time?

I'm sure you'll have a great time with your family. DD and I took my Sis, her friend, and my Bro and his family on the Magic last December and had a blast!

With 3 and 5 year olds, you probably won't see much of them during the cruise! It was a struggle to get my DD out of the clubs at that age. (Not that I tried too hard mind you. :rolleyes1 ) But you and your sis will have a great time together!

That is so true!!! A couple of nights on our last cruise we had to bargain with our 3 DDs to get them to have dinner with us. :) They would have been more than happy to eat room service and head out to the clubs.

Since I'm overseas (Belgium), I'm only able to watch current seasons of Grey's, NCIS, and The Closer from iTunes. Everything else, I have to wait for AFN to show. I also got hooked on the first season of Brothers and Sisters. So I'll be watching that when it comes around again here.

We wanted a Cat 10 and they wanted the navigators veranda. Unfortunately on deck 7 there are only a few of each type and they are on opposite ends. It really wasn't intentional as we all get along great.

Ya know, my friends/family all think I'm crazy for booking a vacation that far in advance. But just last month, a friend booked a 4-night on the Wonder and we are paying less for this 7-night Eastern than she did on the 4-night! Made me feel better that I booked ahead. :goodvibes

Many of our friends and family feel the same way. I have always booked as far out as possible. You really have nothing to lose and everything to gain- best price, best choice of cabins and plenty of time to pay for your trip without going into debt.

It's nice to have something to plan for and look forward to.:goodvibes

We normally book suites so you have to book that early. And we normally look for special sailings like this one.

Plus, I don't mind booking early. It gives me more time to plan everything.

Well, My brother, SIL and their 2 kids are now booked for this cruise as well! It also sounds like my other brother is interested (they have 3 kids), and possibly my aunt and her new husband as well, so our group is going to be HUGE!

Exactly! We are paying $1400 less on this cruise, than we did on last December's E. Caribbean! I've usually booked about a year out, but ITA there is nothing to lose by booking as soon as the rates/dates are released. We were able to get the same mid-ship cat 3 for this sailing and the one after it. Now depending upon DCL's 2010 itineraries, we may cancel these dates, but I can just move my deposits to the new booking. :thumbsup2

I imagine the new ships will stay on this side of the world for right now. They'll be too big to fit through the Panama Canal won't they? At least until the widening project is done.

For 2010, I'm hoping for either Hawaii or back to the Med. If it goes to Hawaii, I have to decide between Hawaii or the canal cruise to get it back or forth to the West Coast. If it's the Med. again, I have to decide between another trans cruise or doing the Med. this time. Decisions, decisions...:scared1:

We are hoping for pretty much the same but I would add Alaska to the list of possible itineraries. Which T/A Repo did you sail? My eldest DD and I did the August sailing and had an awesome time.

My "secret" plan (haven't run it past DH yet) is to do a back to back Repositioning cruise (PC or T/A) with either the special sailing right after or before. I know my DH will probably only do one of the sailings because he will not take that much time off of work, so I will probably do the longer sailing just with my 3 DDs.

I look forward to seeing the 2010 itineraries. :)

rotary2808
02-21-2008, 09:55 AM
We were on the August repo too. It was an awesome two weeks and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Learned alot of valuable lessons for next time.

We were going to do the B2B, but that would have been at least 24 days and we decided that was a lot of time and money. It would have been nice, but... So if they go back to the Med. I would have a hard time deciding between doing the TA again or doing the Med. for something different.

Alaska for me would be iffy. I would probably do the PC cruise before I would do an Alaskan cruise.

DH and I have done Alaska a couple of times ourselves with other cruiselines but we want to take our girls at least once and do one of the more intensive land and sea trips. We would love for it to be on DCL but if they never sail there we will just go with someone else. Maybe with NCL again in one of their fabulous Courtyard Villas.:cloud9:

You do hear some deck 9 noise, running footsteps at times. Our family is not too sensitive to noise, so it did not bother us. I think if you are sensitive to noise you may want to avoid that suite.

Since I handle the day to day finances in our house, DH has a difficult time surprising me. He's gotten better the last few years, does a lot of shopping at the last minute and even has our jeweler hold off charging the cc until he has given me the gift.

How's everyone's weather? Here in the "metropolis" of Lake Villa it is a balmy 35 degrees and last night we added a few more inches to our remaining couple of feet of snow!! I'm so looking forward to spring!!

DH still manages to surprise me even though I do the finances too. He's got cc's that are his alone, but I don't think he uses those. So I don't know how he does it.

It's rainy and drab here. At least it's not too terribly cold, it's in the 50's. The weekend is supposed to be nice and in the 60's, thank God. I'm so ready to go to the beach in a couple of weeks and hopefully to some nicer weather.

I am beyond thrilled- we just booked for Sept. 12, 2009. So far away, but kinda fun to have something to look forward to. We did the 3 day cruise Sept. '07 and are hooked. My husband thinks I'm addicted to something called the "Dis-boards", love it and all the other Dis-board addicts out there. We will be celebrating our 16th anniversary on the cruise. It is DH, Me, Kids-12 & 6 traveling in '09. We had a hard time deciding between Eastern/Tortola and the Western with 2 CC stops. I know we will have fun no matter where the boat is headed.

Wow, what a coincidence.

We're hoping to be able to keep the kids completely in the dark until we got to Port Canaveral. We've managed with WDW trips, but this might be hard. We were thinking of telling them we were going to sail on the Carnival Glory or RCL Sovereign of the Seas, then pull into the Disney lot.

It'll be easier with dh gone. I'm the compulsive planner, but he always asks me what the plans are. They all tease me, with things like, "so where are we going on vacation in 2012." Ha. Little do they know I'm really already planning.

I don't know how you can keep it a secret from your kiddoes. I know lots of people do, but everytime I try I tell her before the day is out. :lmao: :lmao:

Welcome to the party! Is your 11 y/o a boy or girl? My DD will be turning 11 on Sept 21st. We're doing B2B cruises, so we'll still be onboard for her BD!

Hi everyone, I just put down the deposit for the last voyage to Tortola next year. I lingered on the board for a few weeks because I am actively planning a trip to Disneyland in three weeks for my family (husband and son are first timers, only my second in twenty years).:surfweb: I saw how everyone was posting about the cruises and decided to check out the dreams unlimited website and just got a special pricing for a cat 7 room. Thanks for the info everyone supplies, I can't wait for this!!!!!pirate:

Now that you're booked, don't be a stranger! How old will your DS be at sailing?

Thanks for making me feel welcome here, my son will be 4 1/2 by that time and my husband will have just celebrated his birthday the week before the cruise. I am quite excited and I haven't yet told my husband or son that I have done this, I'm thinking Christmas surprise for them.

My DD was 4 1/2 for her first Disney cruise. Your son will have a blast! One thing to think about is that you might want to move him up to the 5-7 year olds. I did that with my DD mainly because we were traveling with her cousin who was 7 at the time. But I was glad I did, because I think she would've been bored with the 3-4 year old activities. Developmentally, there's a big difference between a 25 month old and a kid who's almost ready for kindergarden. You don't have to decide in advance, and the youth activities staff will work with you to figure out which group will work best for you and your son. Just try to get him into one group or another as early as possible in the cruise, so he can make friends within his group.

Thanks for the advice, I had thought I had read that they wouldn't allow you to do that unless it was close to their birthday during sailing (DS pirate: won't be five until Feb 2010). I definetly will try that though, he is already going to preschool part-time and interacts with the older children more than the ones his age (may be that they are all girls though):grouphug:

We are heading to DL in three weeks so this will be the primer for our son and my husband, I just don't know if I can keep it a secret that long for them.

See how they do at DL and then decide if you want to tell them now or wait. I bet they'll have such a great time that you won't be able to wait.

He's a boy, but will play/hang out with anyone who shares similar interests.

I really have to keep this secret. It'll be easier, because dh won't be home to discuss it with. The only way I could convince him to book this trip after our double dip is because he's going to miss it. He'd never have agreed otherwise. Sometimes, though, I think maybe it would be good to tell them,to give something to look forward to while he's in Afghanistan, but then my evil self kicks in and I remember my plan to tell them we're going on a 4 night Sovereign of the Seas to the Bahamas, then say, "Oh no, we missed the ship, we'll have to go on Disney instead."

My DD's birthday is in September, and we sailed in May. But they didn't blink twice when I asked about putting her with her cousin. If your DS is already in pre-school and used to group situations, he may prefer the older group too. The CMs will trust your judgement.

I'm in the AF - as is DD's Dad - and we only have 4 month deployments. But I know that after about 2 1/2 months in, she starts having a hard time. Why don't you save the surprise as something you can pull out of your hat when the kids are really missing Dad? Then you can keep them busy making magnets to decorate your door, and getting costumes together for pirate night - just a suggestion. I'm sure you know what's best for your family.

That's a good idea. We have up to 400 days on this one, and it's our first deployment. I'll probably be nuts in a month.

We always book early for September in a 'Secret' cat 7. We're excited about going to Tortola. I'll have to go back through this thread and catch up!!!

We booked this cruise before I knew so many of the Sept 07 cruisers were going to be on board. :grouphug: It must be fate. My DS who was on the cruise with us last Sept is getting married July 11, 2009 so we decided that we would need a cruise to recooperate from that. His future inlaws have also booked the cruise with us. The kids are having a fit that we are not taking them. We told them that they are why we will need the cruise to begin with. :rotfl2: DH and I are booked on the DVC cruise in Sept of this year. 160 days and counting until we leave.
