Hi,
I just switched our ressies to the 5/23 cruise! I've never been to any of these Islands (except for CC of course). We're excited!!! It will be me, dh, and our ds's ( 7 and 10 at the time of our cruise!). :cool1:
We were going to do the Western cruise for the next week, but the prices were $2000 more!!! We're happy to sail on the 5/23 date!

This is our first 7 day cruise. How much different is it from the 4 day cruise? Ugh, I haven't told dh about formal dinner yet.
What kind of activities are there to do on the ports we are visiting? Has anyone started their research?

Nik'sMom: if you enjoyed the 4-day cruise, you will LOVE the 7 day one!

It gives you time to relax and really enjoy being on the ship. With the 4 day, I always feel like I am just getting on and then have to think about getting off. Sea days are the best.....very relaxing, yet plenty of activities to choose from. I've been to St Thomas several times and may not even get off the ship....unless someone on this thread arranges a group activity! We used to buy cheap booze in the islands, but now with the new restrictions for liquids, we can't carry it on the plane so that's out. I'm sure the Carribean economy is hurting with that one.
We've never been to Tortola so that will be interesting. I'm not into planning anything for this trip yet as I have an even bigger one coming up in '08..... Several of us will be on the 15-day eastbound Panama Canal crossing.

I'm so excited about this. We always felt so rushed on the 4 day cruise. We hardly had time to see the ship. With 3 sea days, we'll have time to really enjoy it. I haven't really looked into any of the Islands yet. We are busy getting ready to relocate to Kansas City (Overland Park, actually) in the next few months. I hardly have time to surf the web right now. The good news about the move is that we will be closer to WDW and DCL!

My DH and DS are still upset that I went on a Big Girl's cruise on the Wonder without them last month. The youngest on that cruise was DD27, and sadly I was the oldest of the group. The only problem we had with kids was on the plane ride home. DCL - great for grown-ups, too...:thumbsup2

It will be Me, Dh and ds (he will be 13...a few weeks shy of 14 when we cruise).

I went to the BVI 11 years ago & had a wondeful time. It was a totally different experience though. There were 16 of us & we chartered 2 catamarans for 1 week & sailed around the BVI. We sailed out of the marina in Tortola but never did anything there. Someone else mentioned Soper's Hole & The Baths. I did both of those. The Baths was definitely a memorable place.

Boy the rain is coming down today! We just got back from post office and it is a mess out there!

Please send some of the rain this way! The weathermen keep saying it's on its way to Atlanta; only to renege later, telling us it "got to the AL/GA border and fizzled!" :sad1:

Well, that was short lived!
I had to Give back my Second check!
And I am Reporting for Duty until further notice!

Lets just say, when I went in this Am and told the Stewart on the Job, and a few others.... They started freaking!!!
The Stewart is the Father of my Business Agent!
and a phone call was made! (Hello Union) :lmao:
Hence I'm Back!!!! :rotfl:

I kinda thought listening to the old timer on the Job and doing what he instructed me to do!
Was the right thing to do! ;)

Seems they wanted to take my spot and give it to the Night time foreman, since the Night Crew Did get laid off!

So All in all it was a pretty good Day, You know that kinda day when you go around with a Ship eating grin on your face, laughing all the Way!!!
Making spirits bright! :rotfl2:

So When the end will be, we will see, but all I can say is the job will be completed soon. But I will be there until the end! :rotfl:

So, that Trip may have to wait! We will see.

Maybe, I will take Jenn in May for the other !

We're booked for the cruise now!! :woohoo: The reservation system is back up today! I just got off the phone and was able to switch our cruise from a 4 day wonder 11/08 to this 7 day cruise!!

I was on hold quite awhile...guess they are really busy today! We're in a Cat 6, cabin # 6078. It seems like the price she quoted me was almost $1,000 cheaper than what the site says. Do you think this is a mistake. I guess I'll call later in the week and double check everything. I'm just glad to get it in the system. (Oh, and she said " The best room I can get you now is 6078"....is that a bad thing??? I was in 7070 on the wonder and loved it1)

Your welcome!!

Has anyone come across any info on Tortola? Eventually I'd like to add info on the ports of call. I tried looking the other day and didn't come up with too much:confused3

I want to look at what the SPA has to offer on the Magic too. Last cruise i just did mani/pedi and didn't realize how much more $$$ it was than on land!!!! I was too shy last time to try any of the spa things, but would love to try some on this trip.

Heather, the website looks awesome!!!!

The spa is pricey, but I figure on vacation it's worth it. I haven't had a spa treatment on board but I have done the cabana massage on CC and loved it.:cloud9: Wouldn't mind trying the spa villas on this trip though.

We looked at disney's site yesterday regarding the spas and also an article from passporter. I know I've always wanted to do the CC cabana massage, so we are def going to try to get this. And then after reading about the spa villas, well we are going to try to do that too!! It really just depends on how much we can save up before then I guess. And it is vacation so def worth it!! Plus it will be part of our Anniversary present a little bit early!!!

It's a balmy 7 degrees this morning, compared to this time yesterday when it was 1 degree. I have my dog here with me in my office (at the library). She has a vet appt. later and I didn't want to leave her in the van. The library doesn't open for another hour, but we don't leave for an hour and a half, so I hope she behaves. DS is here, too, but he's busy surfing the internet, or more specifically, playing Runescape. I know where he'll be for the next hour and a half, then I'll have to pry him off!

I ran into that situation when I was laid off from my computer programming job 5 years ago. The unemployment was more than I could make with a regular job. It was almost as much as I'm making now as library director! I didn't look very hard for a job for that 6 months that I collected unemployment. :woohoo:I was looking at real estate prices for some cities in Florida. What a difference from a couple of years ago. I wish we were ready to move south, but DH has a quite a few years before retirement, and we need the health insurance that comes with his job.

Definately upgrade to a Mac. That's all Jason and I use at home. We've never had any trouble with them. They cost a little bit more, but I think it's worth it.

So it's all my fault that we were on page 3? What was I supposed to do respond to my own post?:lmao:

We never get airfare deals like that either. We probably could if we drove 2 hours to either Nashville or Birmingham, but when you factor in gas and parking it's not much of a savings.

Peter, did I miss something? I thought you were getting to keep your job?

I almost went to a Mac last time, but had the 'fear of all things new'. I know I'd get used to it and love it, but I've got so much stuff on my Dell that I'm not sure I could transfer to a Mac. I'm sure there's help for people like me, though.

For the last 2 cruises, we drove 3 hours to Indy for the best airfare. We're 3 hours from Chicago, 3 hours from St. Louis, and 3 hours from Indy. We used to get fairly good deals from Bloomington, IL, 1 hour away, but they no longer have direct flights to where we want to go. Still, every time we think of the 2-day drive, we opt for the 2-hour flight instead.

Bad training habits prevented me from doing it this year.

Well as many of you know Jenn & the other girls from Work, Including Dr. Kevin Mooney, who is the Boss.

Have taken on the 1/2 marathon.
This started out as Fun for the Bunch of them :yay:
Jenn, has made sure that each and every person has a DVC room to stay in!
@ the Boardwalk!

Along the way it has turned into a way for them to raise Money for Boys & Girls Club of Woburn, Ma. (http://www.positive-place.org/)

The Girls at the office have, posted on the big board @ the office asking for there support!

Well, they have raised over $2500.00 :woohoo: for the Cause!
Each Girl recieves donations from there Patients !
Hence, a little contest has emerged!
Who can raise the most!

This is where you come in!

They know, that Jenn is the Disney Queen! :lmao: Yes, Everything Disney!
(she has helped more people in that office plan trips or Save money on a Disney trip!) :rotfl2:

They, also know of her Wacky Friends on the DIS, I think that the fact that Jenn will see about 50 to 100 other Disers (That she knows, im sure she will meet others!) during her walk is Great!

The other Girls will be like who is that, and Jenn will explain, oh Just a Friend I have Cruised with (insert amount of times here) or Met at The World!

The Dis is a very powerful Thing! :wizard:

ok, If Jenn knew, I was doing this, she would Kill me! :scared1:

Anyone who would like to help Jenn, help the Boys & Girls, may do so by
sending a check to the address below!
Lets help Jenn, win this little thing!

Wow, what a day yesterday!

Started aound noon, with the 3 year old birthday party.
Can you guess, what we got her for a present (http://oneshare.com/)? great Italian Food!

Then we headed over to me Moms house! ;) for Family Christmas!
Was the first time we could all get together! due to Schedules and so on.

Followed by Jenn's Holiday Work Party!
This was a Catered affair!
Good Eats.. :goodvibes
Tell me why at 12:45 was i eating shrimp cocktail! :rotfl2
@ the Doc's house, Lets see there was the Wii bowl off and Guitar hero and so on!

Along with the Yankee Swap! pirate: Jenn got Number 1  actually I got it and traded with the number she had picked 11
(still yielded a DD gift card)

Value of the swap was $20.00 per gift!
One of the Gifts was lovely photo of the 3 Doctor's, in a nice frame!

Something said ~ you know there has got to be more to it than that!
Jenn, was right, as she selected the photo as her final gift, upon opening the back of the frame, was a Crisp New Hundred Dollar Bill!
Yes, ready for spending in Florida! in 5 wakes up for her and 3 for me!

Some of the other Girls had the same Idea as Jenn, and opened the photo frame before the end of the swap, inserted there was a note that read CHEATER! :lmao: Seems the DR's PA was holding the bill!

As she thought this sort of thing may happen!
As a matter of Fact She Confirmed Jenn's thoughts, before selection of the final Gift!
Why because She likes Jenn!
She is one of the Fav's around the office!
why ~~~ for those of you have not met her ~~ you will see!
but trust me there is not a bad bone in her Body!
in Jenn's High school yearbook,:lmao: :lmao: Jenn was left a bad day from the Senior class! :rotfl:

Im sorry, it just does not happen! :lmao:

In just minutes from now! Jenn's girls will arrive and the Sunday morning training walk will begin! :cheer2:

Not sure of the length today, but, it is not too bad out there!
they all fear the BUS of shame at the World!:scared1:

That is the bus that comes around and snatches the slower Marathoners,
Around here i am the bus driver!

Services have not been needed, but im here in the event of an emergency!
Jenn has Nextel, and she can Beep me if something was to happen to one of her Girls!
To date they have found about 6 Bucks!
on there training route! 1 penny at a time!
That will be used for the victory Martini! that is one sip each for the 5 of them!

Thank$, for all the people who have sent me a little PM, :woohoo: :woohoo: :cloud9:

Rescuing us from Page 2. It was almost 70 here yesterday, with thunderstorms and tornado warnings...in JANUARY! Supposed to cool down to 'normal' by the end of the week, though. I'm ready for SUMMER, already.:cool2: I had a tooth pulled yesterday, and wasn't sure that I'd feel like coming into work today, but I'm here with my Darvoset. That' something that I never ever want to have done again. I'll take a root canal any day over the tooth pulling. At least I don't have a lot of work to do, which leaves more times for the DIS .:thumbsup2

It was hot here the past couple of days...I amost turned on the A/C yesterday! :rotfl2: But we just opened the windows for the breeze. I heard the weatherman say there is a slight possibility for snow flurries this weekend! From 70's to below 30's in just a few days!

We lost power last night for about 2 hours. Our neighborhood and my sisters neighborhood across the highway. That was fun! ;) No TV, no computers. Of course it was pitch black outside too. Luckily we had plenty of flashlights/lanterns..so we pulled out the ipods and read a book!

Reading is always good. We live out in the middle of nowhere, so we're used to power outages once in a while. We have a generator that we bought from the owner of the house when we moved in. That and our water tank have been the best investments that we've made. The generator gives us heat and light, but we don't turn on the TV. We pull out the Uno Attack!

Yes, we want to look into getting a generator! Living in FL with the hurricanes we wanted to get one. we actually borrowed one during one storm from my dad's boss up here in AL...dad drove it down to us. Turns out the storm didn't hit us, but came up here to AL:scared1:

During one tropical storm my house didn't loose electricity..but my neighbor did and so did my parents down the street (that storm we didn't have the generator!) So we had slumber parties at my house for a few days.

You are smart to use it for heat and light but not the TV !!

I forgot to mention that we spent part of the evening at the local walk in clinic last night. My son (12) hurt his foot last week while playing football/catch with his Papa in the house. (dad doesn't have the energy to go outside and play anymore). Somehow ds stepped on it wrong. After walking on it for a few full days at school it just didn't get any better. So now he his home with me and using crutches!

Hope it gets to feeling better by next week...that is when we fly to Orlando and make a quick stop at Disney!!! (the rest of the time we will be with the inlaws)
************************************************** *
We've just decided to DRIVE to FL for our cruise. I don't know where it came from, but it just hit me...we should drive. It will be summer for us...ds will get out of school the day before we were going to fly to FL. We were going to rent a car and keep it the whole time. (almost 2 weeks) But I did not want the hassle of renting car, turning it in near the port then waiting for shuttle after cruise. (Our 1st cruise we drove..we lived in St Pete, Fl...and our car was right there and I loved it) I am VERY impatient and tend to stress when not in somewhat control. So we were going to keep the rental car all week in the port. We will save ALOT of money just driving down. The total cost of gas round trip will cost about the cost of a one way flight for 3 (with good discounts) to Orlando. Plus we will be buying alot of merchandise while in Orlando/Disney for ebay and were going to mail it home. If we drive we can just take it with us.

DH is really happy about this and the fact that I am saving us money!!! With the both of us taking turns driving it won't be bad at all!! Then we won't have to worry about what we can and can not pack on the plane. This flying business is still new to me. We try to not check in luggage and just take carry ons...since all of our trips have just been weekend trips to visit family.

Heather, hope your sons foot heals quickly. What did the dr. say was wrong with it. I broke my toe during the summer & it took 6 weeks before I was able to put a shoe on and walk normally.

Sandi, hope your mouth is doing better.
I'm doing better, Ang, thanks for asking. I'm thinking a couple of Tylenol right now might be a good idea. I can't wait to see how much your girls have grown next year. We're still a little nervous about the school schedule; we won't know what it is for sure until August, then will have to hope we don't use any snow days.

Heather, I know how that is. With Caleb, he'll complain about aches and pains, but we wait awhile to see if they go away on their own. Then when they don't, and I end up taking him in to the dr., I have major mom guilt that I didn't do anything sooner.

Best of luck to all the marathon runners! I couldn't make it a block, let alone all those miles.:worship:

Tomorrow is our board meeting day, and I was looking for treats. I thought I'd do a theme for winter and tried to find the 'snowballs' round cakes with white coconut on them. The only 'snowballs' I found are pink and are actually labeled as 'pink snowballs'. I guess I should just be glad they aren't YELLOW!

Dr says ds has a bad sprain...he walked on it for about a week, kids stepping on it at school due to construction and chaos at school. We kept him home yesterday...but it was off to school today. Keeping my fingers crossed he does ok! He was stressed out about it. I feel bad, I'd keep him home but they are VERY strict on school attendance and ds does have trouble making up school work.

Good luck to all the marathon runners/walkers!!! In past years, we'd see certain areas being set up and couldn't figure out what the heck was going on! It was the marathon set up!

Well, ds made it through the day...of course they closed schools early due to severe weather!!! (about an hour and half early). This is new to us! In FL, they pretty much just cosed schools when tropical storms went through and you found that out the day before, and it was closed for a full day. I wouldn't have even known if I didn't go online to a news station...they announced a few counties/schools only.

My ds...who normall has no "common sense" for things like this...actually went to the nurses room since it was close to a classroom he was in...and called home to tell us to pick him up (he talked to his papa)...we were already at the school pick up area:rotfl: But I was glad to know he actually thought ahead and called home!

This weather is crazy for us...I'm not used to having to run down to a basement...I'd never even seen a basement until we moved here...lol! (weather isn't bad enough here for that now/yet...but one other time since our moved we had to "take cover immediately" due to rotation over our small city)

goofygal1975
01-10-2008, 08:00 PM
I spoke too soon. Not long after the above post, we got the "get to your safe place" from the weather man! :scared1: We live on the 2nd floor, my parents live on the 1st floor, and then we have the basement.

Don't know if I have mentioned it here...but my dad has cancer..he found out on my ds bday and was told if he didn't get chemo immediately he would have a month to live. Then after chemo they have given him 3-6 months..this was in June..he has survived failed Kidney's, infection from surgery and all the other things that go along with it. (this is why we moved to AL, cancelled our Disney wedding and had a double wedding at this house. We just left our house in fl and jobs and everything...we just wanted to have time with dad...we did sell the house Nov 30th!! woo hoo!!)

Anyways, I worried about mom or dad ever making it to the basement if a warning was to come through..(they were in the hospital when the last 2 happened). Mom has bad legs and stairs are hard for her.

They got right up when the weather radio went off, got down there (my perfect dh had been down earlier to clear off the couch and table down there...basement is unfinished at this point) so my parents had a place to sit. We had chairs and ds laid down under the table. Our pizza I was cooking was just done, so hey...we took that down to the basement and had dinner while waiting.

All is well now, and so far as we can tell no damage...we've just heard lots of trees down in the area.

Booked our WDW vacation for this summer ... guess I need to add a ticker so I can start counting down. I booked a standard view room at POFQ. We've mainly stayed at value resorts but I decided that I want to move up a notch. Anyone ever stay there? I think the girls will enjoy the pool with the slide. The only negative things that I read were about the bus transportation ... that it can get crowded sometimes. Here are my dining ressies ... any comments/suggestions?

Day 1 - no park this day - Cindy's Happily Ever After (@ the GF) dinner
Day 2 - CM breakfast
Day 3 - LeCellier
Day 4 - 50s Prime Time
Day 5 - Biergarten
Day 6 - O'hana dinner

O'hana is the only one that we've done before. We've done CM but only for dinner.

We're not doing DDP this time. Last year I bought 10-day non-expiring park hoppers knowing that we'd go back this year. With the changes with DDP & having to buy at least a 1 day ticket for each of us makes DDP more than OOP.

I've stayed at POFQ many times -- love it!! You'll get a kick out of the street names! I love the size of the resort -- no room is ever "too far away"! The buses aren't bad - you're first to be picked up, first dropped back off. There are times when the bus will only make one stop at Riverside too (most often you'll have to sit through all the stops though!) Take the boat to DTD - it's a beautiful ride. :cloud9:

I like your dining choices. Biergarten is one of Tori's favorite restaurants. The entertainment is so much fun! Your girls can go down on the dance floor and have a blast!! Tell Bruce that lots of Daddies dance with their little girls too! ;) We all love LeCellier and 50s Prime Time too! The wait-staff at Prime Time is so much fun! We haven't done CM in several years, but we've always had a great experience there too!

When is your trip?

We're going June 8-14. June 8 is still part of Gay Days weekend so we won't do a park on that day. When I was single I was at WDW on Gay Days weekend. It didn't bother me but that's not something that I want to explain to 2 small girls at this point... maybe in a few years.

My sister lives in Lake Mary, FL & has a new pool at her house. We'll more than likely drive to her house Friday night & spend the weekend with them until Sunday early afternoon.

My family did a few Disney trips when I was growing up... when I looked back at pictures I was surprised to find that we actually went to WDW the year that it opened! We stayed in our pop-up camper at FW that year. I remember eating at Beirgarten way back when. One day I'll go back to the restaurant in France to eat. We had our Thanksgiving lunch there one year when I was in college.

(we like it better than the dinner) O'hana dinner is awesome too...we were going to have dinner here for our intimate wedding!! Our all time favorite of course is Le Cellier!!! (the other 2 we haven't tried) You've made some GREAT choices. We've gone around that same time a few years...my ds bday is 6/14!! So we always tried to go for his bday!

We had pictues on a website for our last cruise (5/27/06). I'm ok with it. I'll have to find a family picture of us ... not sure that we have one that is recent.

That's always the challenge for us too - finding a recent picture with the 3 of us (I'm usually behind the camera!!)

I know...the only recent photo we have of the 3 of us is our wedding photos from August. I'll just have to put up a couple pictures to cover the 3 of us if we can't find one of all of us together! LOL :thumbsup2

The weather wasn't too terribly bad for us. Just severe storms and that only lasted about an hour and a half. They closed schools at noon and since the church I work for has a daycare, they closed and so did I. Jason was able to leave work early too, so we were home before the worst of it got there.

Hope everyone survived okay. And TGIF!!!!

Heather, I admire you and your husband for taking care of your parents. It's something that you'll never regret, I'm sure. Growing up in Central Illinois, we're used to basements and tornado warnings at least 5 or 6 time a year. It was 3 years ago that Caleb and I were in the basement and heard the tornado rip the siding off the north side of our house and take down our barn. Larry is a volunteer fireman and was at the fire station. We don't have a finished basement; it's a creepy 100-year old basement that floods occasionally. We just hope that there's not 6 inches of water down there during the storms.

We don't mind sharing a picture of us. The last one we have is from our cruise in 2006, and Caleb has grown a foot and a half since then. I'll see what I can come up with.

Ang, I had no idea there were gay days at WDW. That wouldn't make a bit of difference to us now that Caleb is older, but it might have made some awkward questions years back. We've only been to WDW once and are planning on staying for a week or so next year after the cruise. I have no idea about dining, so would have to hop over to the dining boards to get ideas. We loved HDD, and would do that again, though.

A friend asked me to go to our mall & pick up something at Build-a-bear for her so I did. I decided to run in to The Disney Store across the hall. I shouldn't have. I can't resist a sale!!! Almost everything in the store was 40% off. Last year Emily got in to pin trading at WDW. I found some pins for $3. I remember that we couldn't find anything less than $5 at WDW. I bought 8 of the same so the girls can trade. I also found them each a battery-operated small fan that they can hang around their necks. My husband will kill me! Oh well ... racking up more of my Disney Visa reward points.

Hello everyone....I have been told by my DW (GoofyGal1975) that I needed to post something, somewhere on here (I am new to the DIS boards and after an overwelming 2 hours I finally found this thread!) Whoo Hoo!

I hope everyone is excited about this Cruise! I know I am and this being my first ever Cruise (I don't think I can count the boat ride to Alcatraz I took back in 1994).

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Yea! Now you can get excited excited excited about planning our cruise!!!

We are going to see if we can stay 4 or 5 (or maybe 6 :lmao: ) days at Disney after the cruise. We will hope to rent DVC points from a friend and stay at our favorite Beach Club Villas. (we have rented from her before, and this Christmas will be staying at Animal Kingdom Villas using her points). I know we still have plenty of time to figure that out!

We are likely going to stay at DVC before the cruise. We have another cruise that I must go on May 10 (4 night Disney Wonder) and it doesn't make sense to fly home, get out of vacation mode for a week and then fly back. I can also work from Disney so that will be ok!

Very exciting!! What is the May 10th cruise for? It's great to be at Disney for all that time!! (even if you work some from there).

I am keeping my fingers crossed that we can stay at WDW after the cruise. It will all depend on what job DH gets...going into a new job he will have the dates we want and let them know that we already have it planned. The job market here is horrible right now. Our saving are just about gone and not having ins isn't so great! So we hope he can just find ANYTHING at this point! We just plug away on ebay right now. :surfweb: I know things will work out though, they usually do! :thumbsup2

The May 10 cruise is the DISPodcast Cruise. Should be a lot of fun!

I am excited about this cruise! I love hearing what others are doing before and after the cruise too! With all these great plans...the waiting for the trip to get here must be hard!
