So for the FE we need to bring something for everyone participating (according to our limits) and either deliver a gift every night, or make little gift bags with a few gifts and deliver once.? And do something separate for the kids/ teens??
Sorry for all the questions, I"m new to this.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but you do not need to feel like you need to get a gift for every person, and certainly not every day.
One gift per stateroom, once per cruise is perfectly acceptable! It's supposed to be fun!! It's not supposed to cost you a fortune or take up too much time. You want to be enjoying your cruise, not delivering goodies every single day.:)

Ok so goofy question, but has anyone ever booked a disney cruise through Orbitz? We've always used a travel agent but were considering trying ourselves this time? We appreciate any thoughts.

I've never tried it, but if you can get a price without being instantly "locked in"....so that you could check it against DCL's price....and if the room is guaranteed, then I guess it would work okay.

I have to find something that is eas to get my mother to do, she is not wheel chair bound, but walking is not as easy as it used to be!!
The tour to St John is doable for someone with limited mobility.
Also a taxi tour of St Thomas or Tortola. The taxi drivers love to showcase their islands and are safe.
Or you could still taxi to Coral World...both my parents have trouble walking and we still thought it was a good place to take them.
The reason I say taxi is so that you wouldn't have to wait for an excursion bus, or walk a long way to get to the excursion busses.

Are most easy to spot? We found a great one in Grand cayman one time. What is the normal charge?

There should be quite a line of them as you exit the port terminal. Most of the time you can get a great tour of the island for about $20-25. Sometimes as much as $50, if there's a lot to see and stops to make. If you taxi to Coral World, it shouldn't be more than $15.

Here's a link to St Thomas beaches. Magen's Bay is popular, and there's Coki and Sapphire, plus a lot of others. You can taxi to these and arrange for the driver to come back for you, but there are also always taxi's waiting at these beaches when ships are in port.

In Tortola, we're taking a taxi to Brewer's Bay.

Hey - Joanne - I think you're the same Joanne from the DVC member cruise - Tom & Ellen, here!! We booked this cruise while on the member cruise last Sept (also going on NEXT member cruise, Sept 2009) - only for this cruise (May 23-20) we are bringing our two boys. I noticed a lot of recent cruisers for this cruise coming from FL - I presume y'all are taking advantage of favorable FL Residents' rates?

My DW and I have found a catamaran on Tortola that sails with very small groups and gets wonderful ratings. Problem is they will not sail with less than 4 passengers. But the max is 14. They go to the baths and lots of other places. Cost is 110 pp. If anyone is interested and would like to join us please let me know and maybe we can arrange something. I've already been speaking with the captain. If you need reviews try tripadvisor or check out their web page. kuralu.com I've not asked but I would expect to have to pay cash but I can find out. BTW, no worries on time, he promises to get everyone back on time!

Hi Tom & Ellen from Buffalo.. yes it's me. Roger is not coming this trip. just the girls. Can't wait to see you again. Nice that you can bring your boys. ROger & I booked one on Oct on the member cruise, but when these rates came out and I was looking at what to do with my sister when she's here I couldn't pass this up. Hello All!
I've introduced myself once but it was several weeks ago and I haven't been able to get back. My grandfather that I was helping care for, passed away two weeks ago. Life is starting to return to normal (whatever that is these days:)) and I'm able to start to look forward to our trip that we've had planned since last May.
I'm traveling with my hubby & 2 boys, my Mom and my in-laws and would like to surprise everyone with decorating their doors. Does anyone know the dimensions of the stateroom doors and where the room number falls on the door? I have a really cool idea but it's kinda big and I don't want to have to be cutting and improvising once we get there.
I'm sure this info is on this board somewhere but I couldn't find it. Thanks for your help!

My wife and I are considering the May 23 Eastern for our 4th Disney cruise. Anyone been to St. Thomas/Tortola that can give some basic island info? Just curious if this are similar to the environment in Nassau. Thougts on excursions. How does Eastern compare to Western. All our previous have been western and were wonderful!
I much prefer the eastern route which is always my first choice. We love the extra sea day and much prefer the ports.
We haven't been to Tortola before but St Thomas has some nice beaches, shopping and other things to do.

DITTO!! I didn't get back online last night. Our middle daughter was moving out, so emotions were high for me. Talked on the phone to our oldest daughter until after midnight. I sure do wish I'd had all boys, maybe I wouldn't have worried so much.
Anyway...will send a PM.....if I can get it to work. I tried answering PM's this morning, and it was so slow, I gave up. I'm not sure they did the right thing by "upgrading" the Boards!

Kaylah has already talked about when she is a bit older, she wants to move out. But since it is just to the guesthouse here,(because free rent) it shouldn't be so traumatic. But I suppose I will have to install soundproofing or maybe get my glass ready to listen through the walls. lol

I tried one yesterday & it was pretty easy & quick to make. Just need to look through Heather's list & see how many more I need to make. I still don't even have a FE ... guess I need to find those instructions & get busy making that too.

I made our DIS meet name tags. I used the Home Depot Mickey head tags, but my handwriting stinks, so I didn't want to just write our names on them. So I scanned them into the computer, used the Disney font to add our DIS names and our real first names. Printed them on photo paper and now need to decide if I will put them into a pin-on name badge, or a lanyard. Going to Office Max to see if there's a lanyard card holder that they will fit into....otherwise will just do a name badge.
I think I have all the "extras" done and can just wait to pack now!!:cool1:

Tom...I also wanted to let you know, in case they ask, we have our own snorkel gear. Well, masks and snorkels anyway...I'm still debating on whether to haul along my own fins. But I probably will, they're the short ones and not so hard to pack & carry.

I'm trying to make the same decision. We have the smaller fins as well which work great in the ocean, but all that stuff is a pain to carry. We'll have to meet up and share a cab over to the pier!!

Here's the Mickey Head. You'll probably have to adjust the size of it once you get it into a photo program.

I'm trying to make the same decision. We have the smaller fins as well which work great in the ocean, but all that stuff is a pain to carry. We'll have to meet up and share a cab over to the pier!!
Sharing a cab sounds great. I want to try to find a "touristy" store near the port to grab some souvenirs, first chance they let us off the ship, since we'll be running back to the ship!
I'll just have to wait and see how heavy my bags are before I decide on the fins.
I'm not using my usual luggage this time, am using large rolling duffel bags....the suitcases themselves add so much weight, and the duffels are much lighter.
All this planning, planning, planning.....as if we didn't do it almost every year! :sad2: I should have it down to a science by now.

Funny how different things are. My wife and I just throw some things in a bag and take off. In fact all 4 crusies we've booked we did within 2 months of sail. In fact our last was about 3 weeks. I think this Kuralu thing is the first planning adventure we've had in a while!! We should have time in the morning to look around anyway. Should be docked by 7-730 and the catamaran sails at 9. Thanks again for your interest, we really wanted to do this one!

I save mine in a word document. Then I use the "word art" selection to put my name in it. Then just print it out.
I have MS Word 2007, so it may be a bit different for you, but try it that way.
I made one as a magnet for our door. I'll need to go in and make one for DH and DS as well!! (maybe I'll put Goofygal's DH and Goofygal's DS  aong with their names)

Joanne, you have to download the Disney font to your computer. It took me forever, years ago, to figure out how to do it....and it's been so long I don't think I could help you there. One standard font that looks Disney-ish is Harrington.

We've been to St Thomas 4 times. Once we did a private sail to snorkel near St John and twice we've done DCL's Captain Nautica speed boat to snorkel near St John, the other time we toured St John. I loved the tour of St John, but missed being in the water.
This time, Sharon, Kaylah and I are going with Captain Nautica again. The private sail had us take a half hour (or more!) taxi to meet our sailboat, then we had to wait for them to show up...wasted a lot of the day....and the pace was too slow for my taste. Obviously, I'm really happy with Captain Nautica's or I wouldn't be doing it for the third time. We walk from the ship to their boats....not too far, but a bit of a hike....and it still leaves us time to look around port some, too....either before or after.

You're right Stacey- no Kaylahszoo for her- because, like always, it is mom who takes care of the 'zoo.' It should be 'Sharonszoo.' Had to rescue the tortoises from the garage again today. Kaylah never shuts the door tight & they wander in. The big one is almost getting too heavy for me to carry anymore. She must weigh 40 lbs now.
Can't wait for Captain Nautica now. It will be a blast!

You may have already read this on DCL's site, but Captain Nautica takes us to two snorkel stops. One is at a beach on St John. The boats are those air type ones, and they get in close enough to shore that if someone just wants to lay or play on the beach they can practically walk in the shallows to the beach. Then it goes to a 2nd stop where we have ALWAYS seen turtles. :thumbsup2

Do you want door signs or name tags? Door signs are easier....I made you a name tag already and have been trying to get it into a format that I could post for you, or e-mail. The darn thing keeps coming out as a "poster" size.
And....send me a PM with your name and address, as I can mail them to you ahead of time. I'd feel better about that....in case I don't find you on the ship before sailaway.
I have one that's good for a door sign, it's the same lime Mickey, and it has DIS on it...and then I could add the Moran girls line, and on yours add just your DIS name.

Joanne, I just now made you a name tag, and a door sign, am starting on Mom & Sis' door sign. When they're dry, I'll scan them in so that you can approve them.
They're on heavy photo paper...I'll mail them to you that way, and you can cut them to size and put sticky magnets on the back. If you don't have any magnets, I can include them when I mail them.

Hi guys
Thought i'd ask my fellow Tortola cruisers rather than the general board, get to say hello to you all this way too.
When you book Palo on the website does this then go into the activity schedule on the DCL site?
I ask because the other night i booked dinner at Palo, and i went in just now to look at excursions details and couldn't spot my Palo reservation. Might just be DCL-cruise newbie nerves, but wanted to check in case i need to follow up with DCL.
Nearly a week since i booked already, and so much to figure out. Prescription snorkel mask, so i can see anything underwater, is next on my list...

During the online booking process, after you've selected the night and time that you want Palo, it takes you back to your activities page, and you have to scroll down to the bottom and click in "confirm"...or whatever word they use. Otherwise, your ressie isn't saved.
If it was saved, it may not show up under your excursions, but it should certainly show up under any onboard activities that you booked. I think it's all under My Cruise Plans.
I have a prescription snorkel mask, too, and it makes all the difference!:thumbsup2

Stacey, I may "steal" what you did for the name tags ... like the placement of the names. When I was going through my scrapbook stuff, I found a Mickey paint chip. I'll do what you did ... scan it then use the Disney font to add our names .... like you, I added them to my computer years ago & don't remember where I got them. Pretty sure I have a few name tag holders at home ... may even see if anyone at work has those lanyard things that they get from conferences that they don't want.
I like the switchflops ... too cute! I clicked on locations & found store near my house that sells them. They remind me of tennis shoes I had YEARS ago where I could switch the logo to match my outfit.

We're thinking of going to Trunk Bay on our own. It's about $25 cheaper per person and there is supposed to be a snorkeling trail there. Probably not the best around but once you've had fantastic snorkeling you're just looking for neat things to see. Looks like we'll have a lot more time at Trunk Bay doing it on our own.
I'm sure you'll have a great time whatever you decide!

We're doing The Trunk Bay Beach and Snorkel Tour and the Oceans 7 Beach Break. Jon loves just sitting on the sand and the girls like to play in the shallows. We picked by pictures! I know its not the smartest way to go but its through the DCL, how bad could it be?
I am way too busy planning this Vow Renewal ceremony. I'm going back and forth on what the girls should wear. We are not going formal but Taylor is 16 and Mackenzie is 7. We can't have them wear matching outfits unless we get those made for them. 16 year olds and 7 year olds seldom agree on clothes styles.
We're also picking out new rings. I'm second=guessing my dress.
I don't want to be a bridezilla. Maybe I should just wear a tropical mu-mu. :bride:

You can get pretty close to matching the girls at David's Bridal. I'd say if they're in the same color range, that's close enough. But I understand the amount of thought that goes into it all and the second-guessing. We did a vow renewal, and our daughter's wedding last summer...so I REALLY know!!

Some people are going to do them on only one night, some on 3 or 4....so no set "rules" to go by. I think right now we have about 21 or 22 rooms, not counting each of our own.
Just remember, it's not supposed to be expensive, it's just for fun. Some items can be useful, but others are simply fun.

My math could be off, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.....
If we cut off joiners to the FE list at "around" the 45-day mark...and I'm counting the day before the cruise, because most of us will start to travel then...that would mean that no one else can sign up after next weekend.
Is this agreeable???

Yes, I think we agreed 45 days. I got lots of kids stuff over the weekend and waiting until a few weeks from now to go to the liquor store (the're separate from other stores here in PA). Jon's laughing at me, he says my suitcases will be 100 pounds each. I'm considering shipping down so I don't have to pay hundreds of dollars in luggage fees. We have 4 days at AKV before the cruise.

How exciting!!! :goodvibes
I also agree that the 45 day mark is good. I ordered stuff and it should be in this week...so I can finish putting things together! Just printed most of our magnets, and DH laminated them for me!
We also went on the 19th to get our passports done. We went to our local courthouse, and made an appointment. It was fast and easy!! They said we should receive them in about 3 weeks!
HOLY COW...this weekend will be the 45 day mark???????? WOW:cloud9:

April 8th is the 45 day mark to our sailing date. Yes...after waiting a long, long time, it's actually almost here!!!
I just really need to decide what I'm wearing and then maybe put the tags on our FE stuff ahead of time....last time we did it on the ship...
And.....I may do a practice run on the packing to check the weight.
I can't believe we're even close enough now to THINK about packing!!

Mel the ferry schedule is posted here in case you're interested.

Looks like the ferries are 6-11 dollars one way depending where you leave from.
If you decide to go and are interested in traveling companions let us know. My wife and I could share some of the cab cost!

You can cancel it online. I believe you must do this at least three days prior to the cruise, or you can do it once onboard a minimum of 24 hours prior to the scheduled time.

Jon and I were doing the same things, looking for ways to save money. We canceled our Wanyama safari at AKV (4 days before cruise). We haven't cancelled excursions yet and I'm still having a spa day.
I'm waiting to find out if the AKV will allow us to ship lots of items before we leave home. We will already have 4 bags for 4 days at WDW before the cruise. I don't want to pay more airline fees. I can just imagine the little airline bottles of liquor dissapearing from my luggage!
I'd like to send the non-essential vow renewal things and our villa things ahead. I'm waiting for DVC to get back to me. Cross fingers!

I guess we're all trying to save a little. Sharon and I canceled facials when we booked the sailboat in Tortola. MUCH rather have a great day on the ocean than a facial!
Sharon and I were plotting on how to get the airplane bottles from the first leg of our journey (Phoenix to Houston) onto the next plane. We won't be able to put them in our checked luggage. But now that I think about it, after we get off the plane in Houston, we don't have to go through xray again....we just go to the next gate.....so I can use all of my Southwest drink coupons getting the little bottles on BOTH flights!

I never did get to finish my thought process on the FE list a few pages ago:laughing: Just wanted to remind everyone that I do keep an updated FE list on my web page...it's been on there for a few months now. You can get to it from the link in my signature...the area where it says Kids Chat and Crusie Info...since the kids aren't chatting, I'll change it to FE List! You can view the FE list at anytime...if you want to post there...you just need to register!! I also post the list on here from time to time just incase some don't have time to look at the web page!
I'll get everyone's info updated today! Yesterday was at the hospital with mom for her Pre-Op work. She has surgery on Monday to have the port put in for dialysis.
And yes, we can finally say we are cruising next month!!

Just a quick question, is the list that goofygal1975 and justmestace habe the same lists? Because looking at them, I noticed they were different. Just curious!
Also, can you note Jon and I as newlyweds! Thanks!

On the cruise list it is already marked that you are on your honeymoon.:thumbsup2 I don't see you on the FE List...are you doing that?
Not sure what is different about the 2 lists....I haven't looked at Stacey's yet...what do you see that is different? I basically copied and pasted info posted here onto the cruise list/ FE list. Let me know and we'll see what is going on:confused3 (There are two lists...a general list of everyone going on the cruise, and then a Fish Extender List for those that are participating in the gift exchange)

Mine is in order of Deck and room placement. I'm getting the map ready now, it only has the room numbers highlighted.
Are you on Heather's list? I'm not seeing you. Then again, it's Friday, so maybe my brain quit at 5:00!!

Great FE lists & maps Stacey! Heather, thanks for your lists too. I need to get working on my gifts!!!
Does anyone know if it's too late to make dining requests? On our last cruise someone organized our dining & had us sitting at a table with others from our cruise meet thread. If it's not too late, would anyone that has early dining be interested in sitting with us? Not sure how all of that works for requests, but I can call our TA to find out.

Ok. Tortola worked out so well we're going for it again. And yes, we love sailing! Little saltwater in our veins!
If anyone is interested in a half or full day sail on St. Thomas/John let me know. We'd prefer to do the full day but could possibly change our minds. Just looking for itnerest right now. Looks like pricing is pretty standard on the islands 125 for full 75 for half day.
Again most lines want at least 4 people interested.

I was going to have my TA check for us, and then I remembered that they don't start working on our specific cruise until at least a week before.
So I would say to have your TA contact them about 3 weeks ahead of time. The gal that has handled DCL's dining for as long as I can remember is no longer there...so I don't have a contact e-mail any more.

I won't be around much the rest of the weekend. It's our small town's annual Fiesta Days Rodeo and parade weekend.
We have a membership (pay a ton to help feed the livestock!) to a private area for the rodeo performances, and in turn we get fed and have shade. Not a bad deal, and it's a fun weekend with the family.
So we're heading out in a bit. Have a safe and fun weekend everyone!!

Got home from work late and have to work a wedding today until about 2 tonight. But it is Rodeo Days in Cave Creek today and what do I have outside my window? A marching band practicing. Just what I wanted to wake up to. Thanks!! I need to leave early and go around the mountain because with the parade I will never get through Cave Creek.

DVC got back to me and said that I could ship to AKV (where we are staying for 4 days before the cruise) and they would deliver to our room. I plan on shipping a bag of FE goodies! That way we don't have to pay the airline for another bag. Almost 2 weeks of vacation and a vow renewal ceremony; I'm trying to minimize all extra baggage.

I've lost track - what date will the FE sign-up "close"?
This is my first FE and I am trying to make sure I understand the rules (without spoiling the fun with too much angst....).
I converted the list to try to make sure I understood the "population" of FEville and came up with this:
Number of Cabins: 22
Number of families / groupings: 19 (3 of the families have 2 cabins)
Number of participants: 60
Composition of participants:
Adult Male: 18
Adult Female: 21
Teen Male: 5
Teen Female: 7
Child Male: 4
Child Female: 5
(BTW, I have this in Excel, should the list continue to grow)
Anyway - do I understand that we basically "gift" each "family / grouping" - and if we want to "gift" at the individual level, we can?

Sounds right to me. Most of the time, it's a little something for the whole group, sometimes we have something...or actually I guess it's most of the time....for the kids. I usually try to make sure that there are some things that just the grownups will enjoy or use.

Presents for the adults. Making sure the man gets two if he wears a kilt. Special present for people who aren't really fond of little airline bottles. I wonder if the liquor store gives quanity discounts.
Presents for kids. I'm done with the little ones. I'm struggling with the pre-teens and teens. But they will be different.
I think our FE closes soon. 45 days right? This is so we all have enough time to purchase/make, gather, and wrap.

A bonding experience if you must, durning these trying days in the nation with alot of people who are not working not to no fault of their own (like me:mad:) The almighty buck is streched pretty thin. Just join us with your marshmellow peeps or whatever you find and lets us forget our mainland problems and Party:banana::banana::banana::banana:
Very well stated.
I'm trying to use supplies & goodies that I already have at home. I will be spending a little get to get gifts for the kids though.

I made one FE item just the other day. I'm not at all crafty...so trust me, it isn't all that great. But you'll find it on your doors...not in the FE. ;)

Wow you guys have been busy posting away here :)
I am hoping to get my FE's done this week (mostly by DD) while the kids are on spring break.
I really haven't been giving the cruise much thought - too busy keeping up with work and looking at schools etc but that is all behind us for the moment.
Welcome to all the newbies.
Stacey - thanks for the list for the FE - I'm sure that will save me lots of time.
I still haven't made a FE - so need to get cracking on that as I haven't found anything to use to make making one easier :(
Have a great week all :)

Some of the best presents I get at Chrismas are hand-made. I'm not that crafty (I ordered my FE online). Its is truly the thought that counts.

I've gotten a couple of Fish Extenders on eBay. I think you have to search under "Over the door hanging organizer".....because I can't sew a stitch.

Me either!!
I bought my fish extender on ebay. I'm sure it will be great when she's done with it, but oh my word it's taking forever. When I wrote to check on it, she said she was working on 6 others. She said she'd move mine to the front if I was sailing soon, but I said I just needed it by May!:)

Guessing we may have gotten ours from the same seller. She told me the same thing- she was busy and working on several; but I must say that I already got mine about 2 weeks ago and I just love it!! I'm sure you'll get yours soon! I had to order one for my mum's cabin and sent here the fabric etc....can't wait for our cruise. talk to you all soon...gotta run....

We probably did!! :) I'm not worried...yet!!
I'm also waiting on dd's passport. We got it back a couple of days ago, and they had her as a male!!
So we had to send her passport and birth certificate back. They said we'd get them back in one or two weeks. We'll see!!

The ones I've gotten weren't special made. I think they were meant to be in a baby's bedroom holding diapers and such. But I have one that I love, it's Mickey snorkeling! They usually have lots of them with Winnie the Pooh, and lately I think they've had a bunch with The Incredibles or some such.

Hey everyone! We got up bright and early yesterday! Mom's alarm didn't go off...so she didn't wake up until it was time to leave...LOL. They weren't able to put the port in where they wanted to, but did find another spot in her arm. She was fine yesterday, up and about some, but slept most of the day. Today the arm hurts some, but she does have meds to help. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!!!
Yes, the FE cut off should be tomorrow, Wednesday. That is the offical 45 day mark!! Can you believe it??? I have to work on FE gifts. I have to say we used things that we had around, as well. And just ordered a few things. I'd normally do more, but with the $$ issues this year I had to scale back. It will still be fun to give and receive gifts on the cruise!!

Welcome! I can only assume that with Geaux in your screen name, that the Tigers are the LSU Tigers. If so, where are you from? We live in ATL area now but DH & I are both from south Louisiana originally? I'm Angie, DH is Bruce & we have 2 DDs - Emily will almost be a couple of months shy of 9 & Ashley will be 6.5 when we sail.
Angie
You are right, it's the LSU Tigers. We are from North Louisiana, but are in California now. My husband was in the Air Force until last year, so we have moved around. It's very nice to meet you!! I'm Ashley, DH is David & we have twin boys - Jackson & Jonathan (they are 1 & already Tiger fans!!). Hope to see you at some point on the trip!!
