We only have to wait 591 days!!!!

We also transferred an on board reservation and are thrilled that the Magic is back. DH is a teacher so we can only cruise in the summer. The special cruises sound wonderful but a bit to pricey for us.

How many cruises have you been on?

We transferred a reservation to Tortola for Sept. 12. Looking forward to the new port.pirate:

This will be our 5th. We did an Eastern in 2001, a Western in 2003, the Mexican Riviera in 2005 and a 4 day Wonder in 2006. I'm so glad the Magic will be back in the Caribbean - even if the price is quite a bit more than we paid in 2001. DS will be a senior in high school starting Sept. 2009 - after that we can take advantage of the lower priced cruises during the school year.

This is our 5th also. We've not done an Eastern, any advise. The Western we took in 2006 was amazing. Loved Grand Cayman.

Where in Northern NJ are you? My brother and SIL used to live in NJ, my niece was born there. Right now I can't think of where they lived.....

We're from Bergenfield (as in my signature). If you click the link you will see a video of our HS band performing this year's show "A Night Around the World" - Reflections of Earth, Princess Medley and Night on Bald Mountain. DS is in the band and they are going to WDW in April. Where did your brother and SIL live?

I love the Eastern because you get 3 days at sea. I'm glad they are going to Tortola instead of St. Maarten (I wasn't very impressed by that). St. Thomas is very nice also and, of course, Castaway Cay.

It's been so long since we've been on the Magic - I was beginning to think I'd see the new ships before we got back on the Magic. As a last resort if they weren't going to be in the Caribbean summer 2009 I was going to see if I could get something for spring break 2009.

After I posted the question I noticed the band link. Sorry.

What did you do in St. Thomas? DH wants to go golfing which leaves me with DS who will be 11 when we sail.

We took the walking tour. It was interesting but DS was 9 at the time and was completely bored. I may just stay on the ship this time around and relax. DS will be turning 17 on this cruise. We had his birthday a year ago on the Wonder and he was harassed by Wendy when she found out it was his birthday. Everyone was waiting to see Captain Jack and she got everyone in line to sing Happy Birthday to him (even Captain Jack). He's not sure he wants another birthday on the ship.

I hope you can join us. It just seems like such a long time off before we go.

I want to call DCL today and make sure I'm getting the $50 castaway club on-board credit. Then I think I'll check with Dreams Unlimited and see what kind of a deal I can get with them. It's either them or Costco.

We're from Bergenfield (as in my signature). If you click the link you will see a video of our HS band performing this year's show "A Night Around the World" -

My son is in his 2nd year of band as a 2nd generation trombone player! Even though he's in 7th grade, the 2009 H.S. Marching Band summer schedule is creating havoc in our vacation plans...:)

Rookie Band Camp in June, Parade practice the week before 4th of July. Marching Basics at the end of July and then the entire month of August for field show rehearsals... :scared1: We only have 3 open weeks to plan vacations... We're already realizing Band is much much different from the good 'ole days when we were in band... We're awed by the level of talent and commitment band kids have - their shows are great!!!

starwood
12-09-2007, 07:58 AM
Boy they sure are busy. Our band has one day a week all summer (they are allowed to miss 2 practices). Then they have the last week of August to start work on the field show. Their first football game is the first Friday after they start back to school (which is the first Wed. after Labor Day). During the school week they practice 3:00-6:00 every Wednesday and if they have a football game on Saturday 9:00-12:00 then they do the game. If there is no game they practice 9:00-4:00.

Now that Marching season is over DS is on the bowling team so he has approx. 3 days a week that he bowls after school. Not bad except that the bowling alley is 15 miles away.

It's always something to run them too.

We haven't been to the Eastern Caribbean in a few years, so we're very excited to get back. We've been to Tortola twice for day trips and St. Thomas/St. John.........at least 3 times for vacations and port stops........my first view of Paradise............we haven't seen CC in many years.......it will be 5 by the time we get there............

We've been sailing on the DCL special cruises.........Med 2007; West Coast 2005; so we're really happy to be back on the "old" route again!!!:yay:

jlawall - tell us about Tortola!

My group consists of me (47) dh (45) ds (11) - ages are at time of cruise. We are in the process of becoming foster parents so I'm not sure how that will impact this trip. There may be a 4th in our party.

Ok, SPR = secret port rooms; I had to think about that one! In a nutshell, the BVI is paradise plus! It's more pristine, virgin than the wonderful Virgin Islands........so, so beautiful, the beaches are very pure.........I recommend the Baths excursion (I think it's a neighboring island but so worth it!) There's a nice beach on the island where Jimmy Buffet wrote Margaritaville and a nice Harbor restaurant with excellent food for lunch........we will have so much fun there!!!:goodvibes

They know I lurk on the main cruise boards, received a ton of helpful hints, etc and they all have directly benefited from my experience by allowing me to shop around for quotes...I'm not sure my family fully realizes the monster they've unleashed allowing me to handle the reservations for our cruise.. I'm really trying not to scare my family. I'm really trying hard to restrain my DCL fanaticism. I'm slowly introducing posting on the meet thread - we'll wait a bit until it gets closer...

All I can say is "Welcome to the Dark Side..." :darth:

-I've given them the 91st day mark for all payments due - so, at the least our family can make our reservations. We're spread out in the four rooms, we'll see what the system will allow us to reserve.

We'll ideally like to have Palo reservations for the 7 adults as a group- but, two of the rooms have CC club members under 18, so we'll at least get a reservation for 4. Does anyone have any experience with linked reservations? Is there a possibility of initially getting a reservation for 7? Otherwise, how hard is it to add on the other 3 adults at the 60 day eligibility?

Why am I trying to figure this out now?

I hope everyone is having a great day!!! It's hot and humid in Houston - Santa's going to have to get out his surf board...

Mickeymo we try to figure these things out because we are so excited and know what is going to happen. Yes it's an illness - but great one!

I'm also wondering how connecting reservations affect Palo reservations. We are also trying to decide how long to stay at WDW before the cruise. So many decisions, so little time (well maybe not).

I was dreaming of floating at Castaway Cay today as we shoved the most recent snow of the season, another 5 inches to add to the 16 we've already received this month. DS had a snow day, DH did not (he works in a different school district). Unfortunately DS broke his ankle in October so he is not able to enjoy all this snow - this makes for a rather cranky 10 yr old!

Has anyone found a website that has some good photos of the Baths? I've been to a few BVI sites but I've only found one or two pictures.

I really wouldn't mind the snow too much if I didn't have to go out in it. If I could just lock myself in the house all winter (hibernate) that would be fine. But today my mother is having laser on her eye at 12:00 (of course that is when the snow is supposed to get heavy).

It's just too early for snow - by the time Christmas rolls around it will be all dirty and icky looking.http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b217/starwood2000/christmas/holiday19.gif

The temperature dropped 40 degrees since yesterday. It's now 45 degrees and raining. To think I was complaining it was hot and humid and I couldn't get into the Christmas spirit to work on our newsletter and Christmas cards. The tree isn't up yet either... :guilty:

Growing up in Chicago and also living 1 1/2 years in Canada, I did my fair share of hibernating, but I do miss snow during the Christmas holidays (Not shoveling, driving, getting two kids dressed to get out the door, the ruined pants from the slush and salt, the slush tracked in the house...:lmao: )

Please add us to the list....we said we were NOT going on this cruise due to the very high price, but then JoAnn and her family signed up and here we are. Please, let me tell you, JoAnn and her family are SO MUCH FUN.....
We met them on a Mexico cruise two years ago and have stayed in touch and taken many short trips together....I LOVE her girls...so beautiful too (no, not Joann, her girls:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: ). Now, her husband Ken, another story.....:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It will be me, Lucy, age? it is a secret:woohoo:
my husband Bob - 50:hug:
our son Tyler (who adores JoAnn - kindof weird, huh, he is supposed to adore her girls!):rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ....will be 17 (YIKES:scared1: ) on the cruise
We have another son, 21 (23 time of cruise), who has NOT been invited unless he pays his way (has a full-time job)...:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
but LOVES cruising, so who knows, you may see him too.....:rolleyes1

This is approximately our 8th cruise with Disney (my husband and I have taken other cruise lines, earlier in our marriage (BC - before children)....
but our kids LOVE cruising as much as we do...unfortunately$$$$$$$$$:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
Bob and I are scheduled for the May Panama Canal cruise with Disney....I say scheduled - i'm still upset leaving the kids at home that long a time, but Tyler is still in high school and can't go, plus he is scheduled to go to Germany this summer with the German class....:yay:

As I write this we are having a winter storm - sleet/snow, everything that can possibly fall from the sky is now falling......I'm dreaming of cruising - our family is also going to WDW at Christmas...we belong to DVC - joined two years ago - wish we would have joined 20 years ago, we go to WDW at least 2 times a year.....
I'll be back......:cheer2:

Has anyone been looking into Tortola? I'm torn on this one. Part of me want's to go to the Baths, but it sounds like doing this on your own is a bit risky (in getting back to the ship on time), but I don't want to be part of large excursion group. A beach day is intriguing but there are so many beaches to chose from.

Just not sure what to do. It's very important that I get this straightened out - I mean I only have a year and a half to decide!!:rotfl:

Obviously we are all obsessive planners. I was looking at the Fodor's book. I think I'll see what excursions Disney has to offer - maybe just walk around a bit near the docks if the area isn't too bad.

I found it interesting that they say there is a specific etiquette when shopping and walking around. You are supposed to greet everyone you pass and when you enter a shop, before you begin negotiating or ask a question you must say good morning or some variation. It is considered rude to do otherwise.

Good Morning All!

Cold and rainy in Houston! dd10's (Maggie) lacrosse practice is canceled so one less item on the schedule for this morning. We're off to dh (John) aunt and uncle's house for their annual Christmas Brunch Open House. It is an overwhelming load of food and pastries. Yum! Then Maggie's girl scout troop is caroling at an assisted living facility.

Christmas shopping is done - still no tree or cards - that will be this weekend's project.

I've just glanced at the ports, and looked at the current Eastern navigators. I need to plan out our trip to DL in June... If I'm starting now for 2009, I'm waaayy behind on 2008!!!

DS doesn't want me talking about this cruise for another year (I don't think I can do that). He is a sophmore right now and will be entering his senior year when we cruise. I'm going to make our airline reservations for April 2008 today.

Right now it is 27 degrees and a light snow. Looks like there is maybe an inch on the ground. "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...." Last year it was in the 60's until the middle of January. I have a feeling this is going to be a nasty winter.

It's very important that I get this straightened out - I mean I only have a year and a half to decide!!:rotfl:The beaches are all really nice but the Baths ARE NOT TO BE MISSED!! Maybe we can check out private tour packages???

Lucy is back - aren't you lucky?:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Starwood: hope our sons can hook up, they will both be 17 at the time of the cruise...although I'd like him to hook up with JoAnn's girls but for some reason, and I have NO CLUE why, he hooks up with JoAnn everytime we are together:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Your son won't let you talk about the cruise - HA! we are ALWAYS talking about the Disney cruise ship in this house.

We were hit with a HUGE ice storm today, really nasty. Of course my son is looking for a school delay tomorrow, he hasn't had one yet this year.
The roads were awful and it took hours to clean off the sidewalks and driveway, chipping away at the ice. We are lucky though, many people in our area are out of power.:sad1:

Ms. Joann (jlawall) is in Miami right now - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! It makes it feel even colder here knowing where she is. Oh, well, don't think she won't get a phone call in a few days while we are in Disney and she is stuck in PA!:rolleyes1 :cheer2: :yay: :woohoo:

May I just brag that my Christmas shopping is finished...we celebrated today, since we won't be home at Christmas, so I'm FREE AS A BIRD, except to pack for the trip....VERY good feeling!:cool1:

We had the ice storm too (but not as bad as you). Our schools never have a delayed opening - it's either open or closed (today it's open).

Joann is in Miami! Somehow that's not fair.

My shopping is also finished BUT I need to start wrapping. I hate wrapping. I have so much to do before Christmas and I'm not really sure where to start. It's the little errands that drive me nuts.

Today is DS's last bowling game at school until next year. I'm so glad because the bowling alley is 15 miles (yes that is 15 miles) away (uphill both ways LOL).

Hi everyone! Just found you all!
You can add our family to the list of cruisers!
This will be our second Disney Cruise - just got back from a three day Wonder and we are officially hooked!
It will be (at time of sailing)
myself (49)
DH (50)
DD (16) Just add her to the list of beautiful daughters LOL
DD (8)
DS (7)
and DD (3)
We will be in two handicapped accessible cabins on Deck 7 (two DC in wheelchairs so we are hard to miss!) and have the Late Dinner Seating.

We had main seating on the Wonder and found that the kids wanted to be in the kids club anyway and so no need to eat so early!

Hope to get to know you all in the next year and half before the cruise!

Welcome Angela!!!!

With all the rotten weather we've had up north (right Lucy ), I'm getting more and more anxious for palm trees. In 2008 were doing an Adventures by Disney for the first time - Quest for the West. The Carribbean will be a nice change for 09.

JoAnn, you're in Miami? I am slightly jealous, but I know it will be difficult to say goodbye to your daughter. Just think, you'll be visiting her in Germany before you know it.

Jingle Bells to all.:santa:

Starwood: thank you so much :yay: for the ongoing list and that you found it NOT necessary to list the adult ages, only the children's ages:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I've made it up the driveway, FINALLY, this evening, only stuck 3 times today:crazy2: Florida is looking REAL GOOD next week...:woohoo:
My son can't get his car out of the ice and must go to work tomorrow....guess who will be giving up HER car:furious: and be the one to be inconvenienced tomorrow!:sad1: WHO spoiled these children!:scared1:

The high school had a two hour delay - probably NOT tomorrow - my 15 yr. old believes if he doesn't do his homework, they won't have school! DUH!:rolleyes1

Being that I am only 29 years old I thought it best not to list the adult ages:rolleyes1. http://bestsmileys.com/expressions/9.gif

At least it is supposed to be 40 here tomorrow so maybe some of the ice will melt a little.

Today I have to take DM to the doctor for her blood work. I still need to find time to bake cookies (yes it's pillsbury). And I want to make some brownies for DS's Christmas get together with his friends. Only 3 more full days of school and Friday is a 1/2 day.

Welcome to our group/cruise Mason7AK! DCL is very addictive!

Maryann, I can't wait to hear about your Adventures by Disney trip. This is something we've been pondering.

We are actually going to be above freezing today for the 1st time this month! Maybe some of this snow will melt. We were only supposed to get a dusting last Saturday - turned into 4 inches. They are calling for another storm this weekend, freezing rain turning to snow. I don't mind the snow but the other stuff can go away!!

I am officially ready for Christmas. Thankfully DS still believes :santa: , he's 10 so I'm sure it won't be much longer. He is going to get a new bike which should be a big surprise since he's not thinking "bike"!

I substituted at an elementary school today - clerical - and tomorrow and Thursday.....The elementary school I must also do cafeteria monitor and nurse! Yikes:eek: .....these 4th and 5th grade boys REALLY try to 'work' me!:scared1: I threatened them that I would sit them with the girls at lunch if they didn't behave - got 'em quiet for at least one minute!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Have a fabulous time at WDW! What a great place to celebrate Christmas. It has been mid to upper 30's for 3 days now, also VERY foggy. A lot of our snow has melted, what is left is dirty and icky looking. It is currently raining but will soon be turning to snow - up to 6 inches over night. We will have a white Christmas.

My husband packed this morning for 3/4 of the family...the 21 yr. old will probably throw it in a suitcase, everything he owns, which isn't much, Monday morning.....we have been begging him to go shopping but he is too embarrassed to shop with mom and dad at his age...so, we leave it up to him and the results are not good....yes, my new friends, you will hear me complain about my boys quite often - take it with a grain of salt, ok?:grouphug:

I get crazy about cleaning my house before I go on vacation - anyone else like that? I know JoAnn is too. Why do we put ourselves thru this? :confused3

I was hoping this would get better as DS gets older - oh well. I'm so tired of hearing "why do I have to try it on - it fits - can't we go now..."

I can't believe your DH does the packing. I have to remember to bring everything. DH usually forgets something he needs (like one cruise when he forgot his dress shirt).

It's supposed to rain here todayhttp://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b217/starwood2000/clipart/28_2_3v.gif. We may go to see Enchanted later. DS is having some friends over tomorrow for Christmas Eve. I'm thinking of asking my DM if she wants to stay over. She is very depressed. My aunt who passed away (her SIL) lived with her so now she is all alone in the house and her best friend passed away yesterday. It stinks to get old. We always spend Christmas day at her house and she cooks but she probably shouldn't be alone Christmas morning.

For everyone spending Christmas at WDW - have a great time and think of us while you're there.

Good Morning Everyone!

We had a nice Christmas - Christmas Eve was spent with dh John's aunt, uncle and cousins. John fixed a pork crown roast with ancho chili stuffing, wild rice stuffing with apples and walnuts, and peppermint cheesecake for dessert. Christmas Day was nice and casual - the kids opened their "big" gifts of cell phones. Our family gift we "opened" in November when we finally joined the modern era and installed cable. Christmas afternoon, we spent with friends and had our traditional "leftover" Christmas dinner - heating up the leftovers from our respective dinners.

I'm taking advantage of dh on vacation and subbing a bunch of classes at the Y this week. I'm off this morning to teach 3 more. Nice, except for the fact I get to teach water aerobics outdoors - the air temp is currently 50.... brrr...

Captain Fluffypirate: ARGH!

Congrats on our first official pirate: :sad2: Wish I was there to fight for it!:rotfl:

Here's our official pirate: list:

Let the games begin!

We just returned from NYC, we just saw The Little Mermaid. It was a great treat and Christmas present. The crowds were worse than WDW! Glad to be home, now to clean up some of the Christmas mess! How's everyone spending New year's?:dance3:

Welcome Kadorto - who will you be traveling with so I can add it to the list?

Current list

noahsmom - with DH and DS (11)
jlawall - with DH, DD (25), DD (22) and DD (19)
wvmd - with DW and DD (14)
mickeymo - with DH, DD (12) and DS (14), parents, DBRO, DSIL and Dnephew (7)
RAC - with DH, DD (12) and parents
MrsG - with DH
lwilliam - with DH, DS (17)
Mason7AK - with DH, DD (16), DD (8), DS (7) and DD (3)
Kadorto - with DW, DS now 5 yoa, and DS now 8 yoa
Starwood - with DH and DS (16 - turning 17 on the cruise).

The crowds were worse than WDW!You should have seen the crowds at the Nintendo store today (I hate that store). It was so hot and crowded. There was a line to get in when we first got there (they had just gotten a shipment of Wii's) so we went to the WOD store first. DS found 2 25th anniversary Epcot pins there.

No plans for New Year's. Last year our idiot neighbors set off some type of explosive firecracker outside our house at midnight (we were all asleep). It lit up the whole street. Finally settled back down about 20 minutes later and they did it again. I was so mad. I hope they got it out of their system. It really freaks the dog out and DS is very sensitive to loud, sudden noises.

I'll take you on with that statement "worse than Disneyworld" - we are here NOW and the crowds are horrible. I'm not complaining - we knew they would be like that. We came for the decorations and restaurants. (you know how this family likes to eat!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: ) The Yak and Yeti was awesome - please, everyone, if you get here next year - try this restaurant....we couldn't use our Dining Experience Discount card (not Disney owned) but we were able to get a 10% discount with either the annual pass or DVC card. Everything we tried was excellent - Bob LOVED his dessert (he was the only one that ordered dessert, but of course the rest of the family ate it up) - cream cheese wontons with ice cream and strawberries and pineapple. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
Today we have lunch in Germany, tomorrow we have lunch in Mexico (MAN, this "travelling is tiring" - ha!ha!ha!ha!
We head home New Year's EVE Day.

Welcome to the new member of our group:cool1: :yay:

As of now we have no plans for NYE. It's supposed to snow again so that's a great reason to just stay home. We are about 3 inches away from setting a new December snowfall record - yippee. :scared1: We are going grocery shopping this afternoon, I must make sure we have some rum in the house so we can drink rum, watch the snow and dream of Castaway cay! :beach:

I'm on medication - Tylenol DAYTIME sinus - if EVER you want to sleep all day long, take the DAYTIME Tylenol - I'm not kidding - knocked me out all day long. SO, my mind is not clear, let me talk to myself, ok?!

Just tried to visit my mother in the nursing home and she is also sick with the flu, the stomach kind, in fact, there is a warning sign on the door that many residents are sick....didn't take me long to get the heck out of there - don't need that too!

Glad to be home tonight....Bob has the fireplace going - watching the Disney movie Ratatouille (sp?!!!) - I saw it in the movies, he didn't - it IS good.
I'm going to now head to the sofa and read. Bob and Tyler saw two movies in Disney - National Treasure and Sweeny Todd (said it was VERY bloody)....
We don't usually attend movies in Disney, but the crowds were so bad in the parks, it was a nice break - I, of course, shopped while they went to the movies - the only place I actually LIKE to shop - Disney.

Hope it warms up for everyone.:cheer2:  :cool1:

Hey all, We have been quiet. I feel bad for all of you in the snow and ice! It is a balmy 65 here in Laredo Texas! But I don't feel toooo bad, *** we just moved back to Texas in May from ALASKA! I had enough snow in the last three years in Anchorage to last me a lifetime!
Question for you all.....I have been reading all these posts about Fish Extenders? Do we want to do this for our cruise? Kind of sounds like fun, but not sure how much trouble it is? I did find myself one on ebay this week -just in case! LOLOL :lmao:
We switched our cabins from deck 7 to deck 6. I hope we didn't make a mistake! But another DISer recommended the deck 6 accessible cabins over the deck 7 ones - says they are more spacious and the verandah is bigger! Sure hope that's true! Now if I can just wait 550 days or so, give or take....Can't wait to enjoy that verandah!
In the meantime, I will have to "settle" for my upcoming trip to WDW with my DD7, best friend and her DS7! The two little ones are getting their very own trip Feb 2 - Feb 9th! Can you say SPOILED?? ;) But these two go through so much medical stuff every year that our family's have decided they deserve a little yearly magic :wizard: and pixie dust:tinker:!

Yes, pretty soon we'll be at a year and a half. Let's get a consensus about the fish extenders. I didn't do it last time, but those who did really thought it was great. You just have to bring a small item to share for all who bring a fish extender. The items are dropped off anonymously. It's a fun idea. Another idea is to schedule a DISmeet early in the trip and exchange a "grab bag" from our hometowns.

I'm starting to read island travel magazines. We haven't been in the Carribean in a while.............I can't wait!:cool1:

I am all thumbs too! LOL The only crafty thing I do is scrapbooking and it takes me forever to get one page done! I bought my fish extender this week from ebay for $7.00! It's cute - Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. There was one for sale on there that was Mickey Mouse themed. I typed in "hanging organizer" for the search.

Our cabins are 6154 and 6147! We are aft, at the very back of the ship!

Greetings All,

I am just returning today from the NYE Cruise. Yes, as always it is a let down to be home. But despite the weather, it was wonderful. The first three days were great!! Above avg. temps. all the way through to the 1st of Jan. then the tides, or should I say waves turned!! After the Caymans it all changed. It wasn't so bad when the seas were at 15 feet or as it approached 20 ft. But when we hit Gale Force winds and seas at 30Ft. it was a different story. It was like this the entire time until we reached Castaway Cay. Cozumel excursions were all cancelled and the walk across to the shops was an excursion in itself. But since my goal was to just crash and relax, I accomplished that.

Castaway Cay was not like I remembered it. We could have made sandmen, that would have rivaled Frosty. It was cold, breezy and showers of and on. But many braved the weather. Those that came from climates colder and snower were just happy they were not at home.

I booked this cruise while on board and announced to the family on the way home, needless to say, they excited about another cruise and disappointed that it wasn't sooner. I have looked for one later in the summer, but with 2 adults and 4 kids and other trips already planned, I just can't make myself pay the same amount for a 4 day doubledip at CC as the 7 night I just booked even with my travel agent discount.

Our Disboard group was good for this trip. We did FE and the kids really enjoyed it. One family in our group had the Walt Suite and had everyone up on New Years Day, which was really nice. If I can get pictures uploaded I will post the doors and FE's.

At the date of this cruise there will be 5 maybe 6 in our group. My DS will be in college and I am not sure of his plans yet. Myself, DH, DD (17), DD (9), DS(8) and if DS comes he will be (19).

Yes, I am as obsessed as the rest of you, and together we will treat our OCD with Disney Cruising together. I llok forward to chatting with you all in the coming months, as we count down to the Cruise to Tortola.:yay:

wanted to let the DISers know - I've had perfect weather on Castaway Cay, EVERY SINGLE TIME...even the Mexican cruise was normally cold and we had wonderful weather, until the last day, when it WAS cold....SO, if we have bad weather, won't be my fault:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I'lll blame it on JoAnn:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You are SO RIGHT, Mrs. G........the parks could be closed due to crowds and I can find other fun things to do at Disney....actually, my family LOVES the resorts as much as the parks.....there are only two resorts where we have never stayed - the Grand Floridian and OKW.....we even have good times at All Star and POP....if it comes down to not going or staying at these resorts....we will definitely pick these resorts. Our kids have never been lucky enough to stay at Contemporary (my DH and I have BC - before children) but once the DVC is built...I'm hoping we can take them there too.

Crafty, ME? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Let me just confess something here...the only classes in high school I cheated in were sewing and art......get the picture here with me?:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 Now, my husband, totally crafty and artsy....

You have to stay at OKW (that's our home away from home DVC).

We booked our air yesterday for our April trip. $390 per person!!!! and $195 one way to bring DS home with us. I can't wait until he's out of school and we can start going in the off season. I'll be able to go twice as often.

We've stayed at the GF a few times, usually at a good rate, a way long time ago. A few years ago, I splurged and used my DVC points and we stayed there again. All I can say is.......IT'S WORTH IT......but of course, only as a major splurge.

I agree though, any resort in WDW is worth the trip, we've also stayed at All Star many times and we loved it there too!!

We're staying at WL for the first time this w/e. I can't wait!!! It's our home resort and we've never stayed there before!!:cool1:

All this talk about Disney hotels, sigh, we haven't visited near enough... (off site - '81, '85 ) Polynesian - 1989, Wilderness cabins, 1999; and Pop Century, 2004... The only place I really would prefer not to stay is All-Star Sports - but, if someone else is paying - I'm there!!! ;) We're planning a visit before our cruise...

I'm excited for this June, I'm spending my birthday in DL...:cool1: (Dh's too - the next day - honest...) No where near enough visits there either ('82, '92) and first time on site (PP) :yay:

I will NOT say no to DH this time IF it is Med.....although, my dream trip has always been Hawaii, but Greece, WOWsa!:wizard:  :cool1:

Due to family issues, we just gave up our trip thru the Panama Canal....it was hard, but leaving our sons for ONE weekend, this past weekend, we had 'incidents' - we came to realize we couldn't leave them for 2 weeks.
I just wish Disney 3 or 4 day cruises were NOT so outrageously priced so we could get a taste of a cruise this summer too....we are actually looking at books for RCCL (JoAnn, I KNOW how you felt about RCCL), don't know if it would happen, but I'm dying to cruise this summer. My husband and i met on a cruise 25 years ago, and we've been cruising ever since (started on Holland America, then switched to RCCL, and now Disney), but having two kids who also love cruising has slowed us down in the cruise market.:dance3:

mickeymo: how was the weekend?

The weekend went as well as could be expected when you have two sets of grandparents visiting, one set in a hotel and one set staying with us in a 3 bedroom house, 2 kids sharing a room, one kid studying for finals, and what seemed like 10 different agendas among 10 people and while they all rented cars, there was still the transportation and meal logistics to work out too...

Truthfully, it was a nice weekend and a very nice confirmation service. Ds13, Mike wore his suit and tie without complaints - proudly sporting his new trombone tie he received from his sister for Christmas. I'm thankful both sets of grandparents could share in Mike's confirmation.

It was fun watching the amused faces of the ushers distributing communion to the new confirmands. And they were reacting to the faces of 60+ jr. high kids tasting communion wine for the first time :lmao:

JoAnn,

I'd say, Hawaii, Med or Greece - either of the three are a no-brainer. We're there!!!!!!!

I may be the lone dissenter - but, since my MIL's eye's about bugged out when I told her what we are paying for our rooms in '09 , I think she might be regretting her impulsive offer to pay for us all...I know specialty itineraries will be even more expensive without including airfare in the budget so, I'm hoping for a "regular" itinerary.

MIL's eyes lit up when I mentioned Alaska - but, given dh's nephews will be 3 and 4 1/2 - Alaska or Europe would not be as preschool kid friendly as a Caribbean itinerary.

As far as Europe goes - As much as I love DCL, my hope is to one day do a small ship/riverboat itinerary.

We've cruised DCL(2), RCCL(2), and Princess(1) - and enjoyed each for different reasons. We've only sailed with the kids on DCL - but, have taken advantage of RCCL and Princess sailing out of Galveston for a few getaways during the school year when the grandparents could come down and stay with the kids. While we missed the amenities of DCL the 20 minute drive to the port sure makes up for alot! :lmao: :lmao:

Lucy, I'm sorry you had to cancel - but I'm sure you did the right thing for your family. I always told my friends - no parties, no visits, I want my parents to continue to leave me home alone  (I was a jr in college the first time they left me home alone ) - it was the only time I could sleep past 9:00, watch tv as long as I wanted and could eat whatever I wanted :lmao: I wasn't about to blow it!

This weekend isn't any less hectic :crazy2: dd10, Maggie has a lacrosse tournament this weekend hosted by our club - 2 games on Saturday and 1 on Sunday, possibly a 2nd for finals, plus I was asked to volunteer, if needed, at the concession stand. Ds13, Mike has 2 basketball games. Unfortunately, each lacrosse game and basketball game is scheduled at the same time. It will be a divide and conquer weekend.

This weekend makes last weekend tame in comparison. Maggie skipped lacrosse practice due to the confirmation service and Mike's afternoon basketball game was canceled. It turned out to be a relatively quiet weekend. To think my MIL kept exclaiming how busy we were last weekend... :lmao:

Welcome Ramule!
We love Cincinnati - visited two years ago - will try to get there this summer again - love the games at the stadium and the chili with spaghetti (yea, sounds gross but it was wonderful!) and that ICE CREAM!!!! Black raspberry ice cream (the name of the ice cream is not in my head right now.....
JOANN - don't even go there about what is in my head and what isn't!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

JoAnn knows me (too!) well:banana:  - I will take ice cream ANY DAY over a drink or dessert (Mickey bars being my favorite - have ordered them a couple of times on the ship instead of the regular dessert - NOW I read they can be ordered for room service!):mickeybar :mickeybar

A little snow expected here in PA today, little I said, but the cold wave that is to hit us this weekend will be VERY painful!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Hi Ramule, welcome aboard!!!

Gotta love Cincinnati Chili! Definitely 4 way - Spaghetti, cheese, and onions - no beans...and add sour cream... A BGSU grad here - so, no Texas style chili in this house... I'm sure I've committed some sort of sacrilege by admitting that fact and living in Houston...:lmao:

On our 1st cruise in 2004 - the kids were quite shocked when I first ordered the Mickey bar for dessert ("But, mom that's the kid's menu!!! ) And then were totally embarrassed when I started whining because the kids got sprinkles (or jimmies) on their bars and I didn't....

Now, I don't even wait until I'm on board. I get one in the terminal :lmao:

Mickeymo you are not alone - we prefer the "regular" itineraries too.

I became a Creative Memories consultant right after Christmas so I've been busy trying to get that going. It snowed again today but is supposed to be VERY cold this weekend. I'd rather just have the snow.

We are eagerly anticipating the big game on Sunday - GO PACKERS!!!!

lwilliam
01-17-2008, 05:25 PM
KNOW I better also have the sprinkles!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Snowing alot....not expecting more than one inch but I believe we have that by now - my car does not like any kind of snow (and neither do I - we are meant for each other:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )

mickeymo

My other favorite order off the kids' menu is the Mickey Mouse Waffles!!! Now why aren't they on the adult menu???? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Cold - as a former Chicagoan - it always seems like Jan 20 set record low temps... I've become such a wimp - it's in the 50s, damp and I'm freezing!!!

I am so not looking forward to the lacrosse tournament this weekend. I got the volunteer schedule - 8am and 10:00am on Sunday morning in concessions sandwiching Maggie's 9:00am game . Rats - no hot dog steam tray to keep me warm. ;) That coffee pot better be up and running!

Our kitchen refacing was started today and it's already costing an extra $1000. There was nothing behind the back-splash. Crumbling wall and no insulation. There was no wall behind the sink (just pipes and the outside wall). So now the entire area has to be sheet rocked. I can't wait for this to be done.

Ramule - welcome!!!

Looks like I'll have to update the cruise list tomorrow.

40 degrees w/windchill temps of 32 and rain. Unexpected bonus this morning. The lacrosse tournament is canceled for this weekend. It's tough to be upset for the teams when I'm snug in bed, drinking coffee, dis'ing on the laptop when I would have been volunteering in the concession stand at 8:00am. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Spring Awakenings?
We wanna see Young Frankstein - recommended highly by a friend and also Curtains was recommended

would like to go to NYC on Feb. 9th, one night only in the city....anyone want to join us?

Jersey Boys has GOT to be impossible! Good Luck.....:grouphug:

Starwood: thanks for the list....I'm really enjoying keeping up with it - I'm happy too that there will be other boys Tyler's age:cool1:

Mickeymo: BOY, do I remember the running - Club Soccer on Saturdays and during the week, thank goodness that is now over. I saw it years ago so it will be nice to see it again. Couldn't get YF together so we didn't go for it (also, they were in the back of the theatre and not discounted!):confused3 Didn't try for Curtains but I was considering it. So we'll be heading out from JB in a few minutes.......I can't wait! What's everyone else doing this w/e????popcorn::

:cool1: I fully understand - we're involved with a local theatre company which is a community ministry of a local church we do 2 musicals and one play a year. My husband just resigned as tech director - he'll still be involved as the "sound guy" but, he just won't be responsible for sound, set design/construction and lights. As for the rest of us, with any small community theatre group, it is a family affair, tickets, set crew, props & stage manager. The kids are occasionally on stage but mostly act as assistants to dad/tech director - stringing cables underneath the stage... :thumbsup2

There are leading ladies, divas and character actresses, but I'm more of a "Desperation Actress" as in "Monica, we're desperate for someone to ____________." I haven't appeared on stage much - a dead person in "Our Town" - motionless and quiet was tough!!! and a nun in Sound of Music - the director wouldn't let me take a vow of silence :lmao: Basically, if I have to open my mouth to sing or act for a part - they're desperate...:lmao:

And Noahsmom - congrats on becoming a CM consultant (have been there since '99). And can anyone tell me how i get a cool ticker tape countdown to tortula at the bottom of my posting? Oh yeah and yes of couse I clean my house before going on vacation! Love coming home to the clean house! That leave one less thing to do when i am finished with the vacation laundry. Oh and one more thing - i see everyone posted the ages of their kids at the time of the cruise - please let me fix that i will be with DD16, DS13, DS11 and DS9 at cruise time. Arg that is so far away. Ok i think i am caught up except that maybe i should have made 50 postings with this so i could get me a pirate Arg!

Uh oh, JoAnn, I think she's got the pirate: thing. :worship:

Let the games begin!!!!

Thanks for fixing that for me Starwood and i appreciate you keeping the list going. My daughter thinks all the 16 and 17 year olds is a good thing but hmm :scared:
Hope you all have a good weekend. It has been raining all week and will continue thru the weekend. DS11 (but he is 9 now) 's soccer game on sat has been cancelled and I am keeping my fingers crossed that DS13 will be too (i don't want to sit out in the rain and cold "supporting" him-big baby that i am)

"Cold" and rainy here - low 40s - Maggie's opening season lacrosse games for tomorrow are canceled. Her pre-season tournament was canceled last weekend. Only thing on the schedule is basketball and science projects for tomorrow...

It's cold and rainy here too! My daughter just called me from school and said it was "snowing little baby flakes" LOL, but I don't seem them! I think it is just wishful thinking on her part - she misses the snow boarding in Alaska!

I told my DD that she should start a thread on the teen board for our cruise since we have so many teens going! I don't think she did it though! Maybe someone will so they can get to know each other before the cruise!

very cold here too
tomorrow we are running away from here, my hubby and I, and going to NYC and standing in the half-price ticket line - I always like it when I don't know what show I'm going to see! The last time we did this, my DH and DS saw Spamalot (DH didn't care for it) and I went by myself and saw Color Purple - OMGoodness - well worth every penny - I was traumatized at the show - also saw it with Fantasia! What a moving show.:sad1:

We wanted to see Drowsy Chaperone but it closed. I'm hoping to see Curtains, highly recommended by a friend. I'm sure Little Mermaid won't be on half-price tickets...wish Mary Poppins would, saw it before and LOVED it!

Hope the City turns up the heat tomorrow - oh, my MUST stop in the City is always the Disney Store!:cool1: :cheer2:

JoAnn,

I can't find our Med thread either. I kept getting errors when I tried to link to it. I guess we should get a hold of tech support. I'll try posting there.

It might be nice to start another one just to keep in touch and tell everyone what happened. Do you want to do it as you were the one who started it all?

thought I'd kick this thread 'up a notch' (get it - kick it up a notch - Emeril:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )....OK, for anyone who didn't get it, turn on Emeril on the Food Channel:happytv: :happytv: :happytv:

Was summoned for jury duty today - my number is ALWAYS called...but, I got lucky (Lucky Lucy!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: ) - they didn't pick me this time for a case - I did make it to the courtroom but I looked really, really bad today (I know, how could I possibly look bad, right JoAnn?:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 )...honestly, I dressed for the part, and they didn't pick me - I was SO HAPPY!:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :yay: Now I'll get a check for $9 (yep, NINE dollars) - I hope I don't spend it all in one place:rotfl2:

When I served on Federal in Houston a few years back - it was $40/day plus free public transportation... I was thrilled - it was more than I was making teaching water aerobics...:lmao: Sequester me please!!! Hotel room, meals provided, someone to make my bed, clean the bathroom, plenty of books to read and no kids!!! :lmao: (While I did get on the jury, I didn't get sequestered...)

I just looked - County Pay is $6... State is no less than $6 for the first day and no less than $40 for the rest...(I guess it's up to different districts...)

you KNOW what "they" say about NJ!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (Starwood, I'm joking!:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 )....Yes, I'm sure Federal pays alot more but I never want to find out!

As I sat there waiting to be 'picked' I kept thinking, well, this (jury duty) surely would be better than my next month's appts. (root canal, hand surgery, other appts. I don't wanna talk about - you know, when you are '50 and over' those awful tests you must have on your body:sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: ) OH, this will truly get me a comment from JoAnn:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

How is the weather everyone? I'm a 'weather watcher' (now that I have more time!) - we are having a teeny-tiny bit of freezing rain right now but should clear till school is over this afternoon. No big snows in the forecast for us:cheer2: :cheer2:

MrsG

I'm a weather watcher here too, Lucy. Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning. Actually we had a red sky this AM and they say rain this PM (better than snow!!)

Last time I had jury duty I didn't see a penny because they don't pay you directly if you would normally be working. Not sure how much it is, though.

MrsG
01-29-2008, 08:54 PM
The only snow I want is a Blizzard that closes down the schools. Not any of the sissy flakes which gets us there and gives us a devil of the time getting home. No, if it's going to snow, Let it SNOW!
