Yes, we'll be leaving here in mid-June, taking a month or so of vacation (can u say DCL CRUISE!!!) and training, etc. Then heading off to Kampala, Uganda! :thumbsup2 It will be nice to go to an English-speaking country for a change! I can stop being the family translator!

So if anyone ever wants to visit the source of the Nile, you're welcome to visit!!! :goodvibes

Captain steamy is great! Although, probably will be a more appropriate title in May when the high temps will soar into the 120's!!!! :scared:

What an exciting life! I'd love to come visit the Nile, but I guess I'll have to settle for WDW & DCL. We had some friends that visited the Nile and many other places during a two week cruise. They loved it. Enjoy the rest of your time there. Be safe.

Ugh we got snow but no snow day. I don't mind if it snows and we get the day off but I hate driving in it and having to be out. Ugh I've been of the Magic just a short time and I'm already wondering how I can make six months without warm weather and sunshine. I think I need to move to Florida. Hope everyone is having a good week.

So, what was the "oddest" gift that you got this last Christmas - and are you going to bring it on the cruise with you?

Oddest gift? My parents who are visiting from Chicago, took advantage of driving down by wrapping up childhood board games and re-gifting them to us. Considering they were more than likely Christmas gifts the first time, they're really getting their money's worth :lmao: I am now the proud owner of my original Life game (I can't stand the updated edition)and Happy Days game, among others...

They're too big to pack, but I'm sure we'll be bringing a few card games.

:lmao: I actually bought my FE from Ebay. There are some Amazing FEs that people had made for their cruises though. Tomorrow I should get my embroidery machine back. It broke in the middle of making a Christmas gift of course. Once in a crazy moment I decided to make 25 flannel soccer pillowcases for my DD's teammates and other friends, and I added their name to each one. Twenty-five on paper didn't look like a lot, but in real life they sure took up a lot of room. I think I have spatial problems.

Do you make personalized pillowcases for other people too? I tried to get pillowcases for my DDs last DCL cruise to have the characters sign, but the woman who was going to make them ran into difficulties (technical and workload) and we never got them. I'm happy to reimburse for materials and time. :flower3: (But I completely understand if you don't want to start a trend!)

We rarely get snow here- maybe once a year- and if they predict even flurries the grocery stores are slammed with people- not really sure why. One flake and they start sending the kids home from school!

Its been a while since we checked into this thread. We got our Christmas trip behind us so we can start focusing more on this cruise! :cool1:

John's parents made it out of Chicago even with the snow and their plane has landed. I have a few minutes of quiet before I start running around around like crazy. My parents went back to their hotel so, I can relax a bit. Tonight's schedule is insane - I should majored in transportation logistics

4:00 - Pick up Maggie from school (she has both kids' instruments)
Mike has basketball practice before their tournament - he's staying at school
run through McDonalds's
drop her off at dance, so she can eat and get changed for class.
5:00-7:00 Maggie Dance
Drop McD's off at school before Mike gets on the bus at 6:30.
7:00 pick Maggie up and head to the tournament for an 8:15 game...

Would it just kill 'ya if I told you we were heading out to a relaxing dinner with another couple, no kids, to Texas Roadhouse? We owe this couple a dinner since he installed our flat screen TV on the fireplace before Christmas. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. The weather here is beign weird it is either very cold and snowing or warm and sunny. I wish it would make up it's mind and be one way or the other. Our poor furbaby is having to wear a lampshade so she will leave her eye alone. We have an English bulldog puppy and while we were on the Christmas cruise she picked up an eye infection. I feel sorry for her but it has been very entertaining to watch here run into things. We learned our lesson though and will never again board our very expensive baby this eye infection has been very expensive. All right I've got to getg back to class work. I'm getting my masters online from UOP and have five classses to go. In fact I'll graduate right before this cruise. Have a great Saturday!

Our expected snowstorm was a bomb.....remember all those warnings I spoke about -HAH! hardly anything this morning....it is presently 3:30 and finally snowing - IF we do make an accumulation, it will be small. Looks real pretty outside right now. My DH and I are watching the Travel Channel and Samantha Brown (LOVE her!) is on a Med. cruise on the Brilliance of the Seas.

My daughter got accpeted to Flagler College in St. Auguistine.Fla. She's so excited!
It was her first choice. My oldest son and daughter-in-law both graduated from Flagler.

Well we officially sent in our transfer schedule request - it includes a LOT of airplanes!!!! :scared1: :scared1:

Ouaga - Washington (training)
Washington - Denver (visit great-grandma who is 95)
Denver - San Antonio (visit one set of grandparents)
San Antonio - Orlando (WDW & DCL Magic!!! pixiedust: )
Orlando - Washington (visit other set of grandparents & training)
Washington - Kampala (new job!!!! :goodvibes )

Now we just have to wait to see if everyone will accept it. Kampala already asked DH to move up his arrival, but that's not going to happen since we're already leaving Ouaga as early as we can.

And, of course, it's important to remember that we are doing this crazy itinerary with three children under 7 and the international legs will involve the addition of 2 feline family members!

Remind me again why we do this????? :headache:

HEY GUYS!

Sorry I haven't been here for a LONG TIME!!! But, I do have some good news. I have revised the plan on the 1st post of the teen thread yet again so you should go ahead and check that out. I have informed the teens of a TEENS ONLY excursion for tortola and I am awaiting what they think about it.

Also, the DIS meet that has been scheduled for Sunday July 19 at 10am is still on. I have still yet to contact DCL about this, but all I need to ask them is for the Promenade Lounge to be reserved for us and ask for a sign outside the Promenade Lounge that says DIS Meet on it. Anyway, more on that when we get to it. I have figured out that Promenade Lounge should be big enough to have all of us even Quagmire decides to show up or someone of that nature. :rotfl2:

Please note that for us teens we will have our "get together" on Castaway Cay day. FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AT THE TEEN BEACH. MAKE A NOTE OF THIS BECAUSE THIS IS DEFINETLY A GO!!!!!!

Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and a new year and I will be seeing you all REALLY SOON!

Back on the DIS board and getting excited, by countdown ticker says 6 months 6 days!

1. Flying in from San Francisco which arrives at MCO around 10:00 p.m. - taking the drive to the Port and staying at the Radisson.
2. The only non-stop flight from the SF area is on United.
3. 4 of us, me my DH, my DD (13) and DS (12)
4. YES - got the airline booked, the before and after hotels and a couple days after that all booked. Cars reserved. When I'm in the mall I've noticed that I'm starting to look for my 'cruise' wardrobe already. Haven't bought anything yet but the way these stores work their seasons I'll be buying shorts and swimsuits next month!

We stayed at GF twice. The first time Matt was about 5 and got sick the night before we left for Florida. He was coughing and throwing up. We stayed the first night at an off site hotel and were going to go to Universal (to see Barney) the next day and then check in at GF. He was too sick to go to Universal. When we checked in at GF DH went to check in and Matt and I just slumped on the couch (we had been up all night). I don't know if they took pity on us but we were upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite in the main building on the concierge level. This room was huge. Out one set of windows you could see the monorail coming in and the other you could see the wedding pavillion.

1. We are staying at the Residence Inn Port Canaveral 7/17 and AKV 7/25-7/29.
2. We are flying Delta non-stop out of LaGuardia arriving around 10:00 am.
3. There will be 3 of us.
4. Yes - I haven't had a vacation since April!!!!

1) Assuming that DH can actually get the reservation made, we'll be staying at Shades of Green.
2) I need to get started on the air trip planning, the itinerary is so complicated, that I'll have to work closely with our travel office to get it all put together. Regardless, we are supposed to arrive in Orlando on the 14th.
3) There are five of us, DH, me, DD(7), DD(5), & DD(2).
4) Definitely, but I've get to get myself organized to move before I can contemplate relaxing aboard DCL!!! Anyone out there want to help???:sad2:

Wow, I've never heard of a delay due to cold weather! We might get a little snow but probably nothing will come of it.

I just heard a really tough story of my colleague's uncle who was killed on an icy road when a teenager slipped on ice and accidentally hit him while being dismissed early from school. Who else? I forgot who knows how to do this.......i'm going to work on the PALO brunch ressies tomorrow.......I think we will probably have more than one group.

Also, if you can't meet in EPCOT, I someone is working on a meet in PL at 10am on Sunday morning and we also have our fish extender exchange. There's something for everyone!!:grouphug:

JoAnn,

Don't forget to add 3PrincessMommy to the list. I think we'll have quite a crowd!

Thanks Maryann, I have her but I checked on page one and she's not on our list! We need to add her name and also, I'll change it here (I'm sure someone remembers but I'm brain dead right now...........is it Joann??)

If y'all want to do the dessert/illuminations thing at Epcot on Thursday I'll be glad to arrange it. This far in advance we should have no problems getting a spot as I don't think those sell out in the summer like the do around the holidays. All i need is a head count of who wants to do this and then i can call. Yeah for long weekends we had a teacher workday today and are off on Monday. Stay warm as possible everyone.

Thx a lot for agreeing to do this (I'm not sure how to and I've always wanted to!) It looks like at this point we have about 16-18 people, how soon do you need a definite number?

I think if i give them a will have say between 16-30 people they should be able to give me a quote and everything. after i get all the info I'll post it here. That way everyone has time to decide if they want to or not and then if on Monday I'll book it.

It's a great idea. We did this 2 years ago when we were down with my DH's company. It was wonderful. They held it on a terrace near the Rose and Crown. It was a great spot for Illuminations.

Hi. Aaron here (DH of 3PrincessMommy aka Joann#2). I've read about some people doing something called Illuminations Grand Gatherings. Is this what we're talking about? Here's something I found on that event:

International Dinner and IllumiNations Dessert Reception
Taste food from all around the world in a buffet style dinner. In the past there have been American, Italian, German and Chinese selections. Your fun-loving hostess, Auntie Roz, will keep the eveningly lively and someone from your party might even be part of the show! Make sure your outgoing children are ready to perform -- and have your camera ready!

Classic Characters such as Minnie Mouse and Goofy have been known to show up right before the dance party begins! After dinner, there is also time for photos with the characters before heading out to your VIP viewing area for "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth."

The highlight of this viewing spot is a beautiful and elegant dessert buffet. Wine and coffee are served around the chocolate fountain and other sweets. Sounds like a dessert lover's dream come true!

You're leaving so soon? After the fireworks, you do not have to hurry out. Relax! Fill up another plate! Do anything to avoid the mass exodus around you. Think about how peaceful your walk out of Epcot will be once the crowds are gone.

Prices are $59.99 (Adult ages 10+) and $29.99 (Children 3-9). Remember that theme park admission is required and is NOT included in the price of the Grand Gathering.

It also said, that in order to book this, at least 80% of your party had to be staying at WDW resort. We actually won't be, technically.

There is one for grand gatherings but this is different it would just be desserts. It is little known about because usually just corporations arrange but I have had friends do it before and they loved it. I'm on hold with wdw right now.

Just got off the phone with WDW. They no longer offer this to just groups you have to be a grand gathering or there with a convention. Talked with the grand gathering people and set up a grand gathering number to book this at least eight people have to want to do it. He said that Shades of green does count as staying on property. I asked because if i remember correctly one group is staying there. This is only available on Friday the 17 so if you want to do something on Thursday there were other options we could chose from. I can call and book for all of us but you would need to add the grand gatherings number to your resort reservation. I went ahead and got the number since it was free and did not require anything. The guy i talked to laughed when i said how the group meet it seems many groups from the disboards have done this before. Our group name is disboards gathering 2009. The grand gathering number is 824529 if nothing else we can all get a grand gatherings button. Let me know what y'all think and if you want to do it I'll book it for us on Monday.

The other events that are available is a private safari and dinner, a character breakfast at the MY, or a wishes fireworks cruise.

Do you have details for costs etc. for the other options? Friday night works for us at Epcot.

tinkerbell_29
01-17-2009, 10:27 AM
I'm not sure about the cost for the other options. I know for the safari you take a private safari at the AK which ends with a private dinner at Tusker house that is very similar to the one at Epcot with the food and Characters. For the fireworks cruise you leave from the Contemporary where the characters of Peter pan are their to see you off. You take a cruise around the lagoon and then stop in front of the MK to watch the fireworks. The Character breakfast is in the MK at Tony's it includes Characters like Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale. It is basically like chef mickeys just on a smaller more intimate scale. I can call back and get cost if y'all are interested in these.

Here's more on the other Grand Gatherings options:

Good Morning Character Breakfast at Magic Kingdom
Join proprietor Tony (with his thick Italian accent and serenading singing voice) at Tony's Town Square Restaurant for a breakfast experience that, in the past, has included Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale & the main man, Mickey Mouse. The characters visit each table, pose for photos, and lead the kids in some singing and dancing numbers.

The mouse himself will be there to greet all the guests arriving for the breakfast. Dont forget to bring your camera! After the meal is over, Tony will invite you to visit Mickey's PhilharMagic, for reserved seating at the very next show.

What is served? An all-you-can-eat meal served at your table that includes scrambled eggs, sausage links, Italian toast covered with berries, cereal and breakfast potatoes with caramelized onions. A vegetarian breakfast plate is also available.

Prices are $29.99 (adults ages 10+) and $17.99 (children 3-9). Prices are per person and include gratuity. Remember that theme park admission is required and is NOT included in the price of the Grand Gathering.

Magical Fireworks Voyage on the Seven Seas Lagoon
"Hop aboard Matey!" Be a guest on a pirate cruise with Patch the Pirate. Patch shares his Disney trivia and songs while giving a tour of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake where you will see the Electrical Water Pageant. The highlight of this tour is the Wishes Nighttime Spectacular fireworks display over the Magic Kingdom.

Before you begin your adventure on the high seas, you'll start the evening at the Contemporary Resort with some piratey snacks and drinks (chocolate coins, assorted fruits, pretzels, popcorn, cookies, soft drinks, juices, and water). Aaarg!

Off to Neverland! Captain Hook and Mr. Smee start your pirate adventure off at a dessert reception. And don't forget to get Peter Pan's autograph and picture after your cruise. He'll be waiting for you on the boat dock.

Prices are $43.99 (Adult ages 10+) and $24.99 (Children 3-9). Cookies and other desserts are included in your cruise.

Safari Celebration Dinner at Animal Kingdom
You will experience the last tour of the day at Kilimanjaro Safari. However, expect a different adventure than the normal Safari. This tour is a bit longer and does NOT include the poacher storyline.

After your safari you will be lead to the Tusker House Restaurant to enjoy an African inspired dinner. There is authentic African music and instruments -- and please encourage kids of all ages to use the instruments! That’s why they're there.

Disney characters such as Turk (Tarzan) and Timon (Lion King) are waiting to pose for pictures and autographs when you leave the restaurant. Get those autograph books and cameras ready!

Prices are $59.99 (Adults ages 10+) and $29.99 (children 3-9). Remember that theme park admission is required and is NOT included in the price of the Grand Gathering.

Also, looking at this page: http://www.wdwinfo.com/Grandgathering-calendar.htm, July dates are not set yet for these Grand Gathering events. But on the schedule for May and June, the MK breakfast is offered each Wed and Sat, and the Illuminations thing is every Mon and Fri. The other two don't have dates listed for May or June at all. I'm not sure what that means fo July.

The person that i talked to said that you would not be able to find the July dates on the web as they are in the process of updating that web page. They are available for booking but you have to call to get them.

I'm up for any of the ideas. We will be a group of 7, so I don't think the number of people would be a problem. I could also do the Friday night. The Illuminations dinner sounds really nice, but I will do whatever the group wants. We are staying at the GF, so we could definitely book this as a WDW resort. Thx to all for the ideas, it sounds really cool (I guess the fireworks ideas are best to me?)

WHAT we do, as long as we end up on the ship on Saturday:rotfl: :rotfl:

IF you guys plan anything Friday night, you can't count us in (but go ahead and do what you guys planned)...we'll be at the airport overnight that night.

I'm so happy 'Darth Vader' is planning a meet on the ship - you can count on us to be there!:boat:

Relaxing tonight at home. I just watched my Grey's Anatomy from Thursday night on the computer while the 'boys' watched a movie. :flower3:

YES, Lucy can organize the FE, but kindof funny, though. A person who has never done the FE is organizing this? This FE can only turn out to be a hoot!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
(I need directions from someone who has done this) - I've been reading up on this, and I do recommend we only do one 'gift' for the 7 days - not a daily gift....that's alot of work....ok?:grouphug:

I really like the idea of surprise. It's fun for me to run back with the girls to find out what our DisFriends have come up with. So, if we think this is a must - can it be done through PMs to the organizer only? I don't want to spoil the surprise for anyone. :goodvibes

I also like the idea of one FE for the cruise. We did a small little gift bag last time and delivered on the second night of the cruise. It took me at least an hour, if not two, to get around to all the cabins. I don't want to do that every night/day. (As much as I love you guys....I love my vacation too! :grouphug: )

I also really liked knowing how many kids (boys vs. girls) and how many adults were in each cabin. That way I could sort of personalize each gift and try to make sure that a 7-year old boy didn't get a princess necklace!!!! :crazy2:

I can't wait for the FE!!! I look forward to seeing everyone! Lucy, if you need some help, let me know. I'm happy to lend a hand. :wave2:

I think you are right with your thinking on the FE. And, I also would like to know how many little ones and what gender they are. I think the kids should do their own "exchange". I don't want someone without kids to go to the expense of putting in something for mine.

So, are we saying one FE gift per participating cabin? Then, if you have younger children they could do something for them the other children? What do you guys think?:coffee:

I was thinking we could just surprise each other and that there would be no need to coordinate the items. What we do need when we're closer to the time is a list of room numbers. On my previous FE cruise, someone knew how to bring up the decks of the ship and then highlight the rooms we needed to deliver to. Can anyone do that kind of thing. :scared:

I like the idea of highlighted rooms on a deck plan, especially on Deck 8. I always get a little lost up there. I had to make our own list the last time.

I thought we were going to finally get snow today, but it is going to miss us again. I don't think we are going to get any here in Maryland. :sad2: Oh well....

Foe the Fe I'm all for only doing one gift or gift bag. On our Christmas cruise we had goodie bags for each day of the cruise by day three I was tired of having to deliver all of those that I deliver the remaining bags all in one night. It is really helpful to know who is traveling with children or if the cabin is just adults or teens. I like to make sure their is something in the bag for everyone.

For the Illuminations dinner/dessert VIP viewing area I need a head count and ages by Monday. Space for the one night we could do it was running out. From what i understood it is easy to add people to the group at a later date. Right now they are just looking for a basic head count. He told me that i would get a call about forty five days before hand to confirm everything including a head count. I was told you could add or subtract people then

We would have loved to dot he Illuminations/ dinner and dessert but we're heading to the Radiisson on the 17th.

MrsG- Maybe we could meet at SSR being we'll both be there a couple of days together.

Sounds great. We can coordinate when as it gets closer.

You may call when ever you like to add the number to your ressie as long as it is before we go. For those unable to do the illuminations dinner you cna still add the number to your ressie and get the grand gatherings button. If we all wrote disboards or something similar on it it would be a good way to locate others in the park as your going along. Of course i may be the only person in the whole world who pays any attention to what somebodies button says.

Yes, IF the Illumination cruise is Friday night, we can't meet anyone - we could also come over to Saratoga and meet some of the DISers and other night, Monday-Thursday!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

We are also in, so that makes 9. The Illuminations sounds the best to us too. I think all ages would enjoy that one.

Anyone else in?

Count us in for the Grand gatherings illuminations on Friday too. We were planning to be in Epcot on Friday anyway. :cool1: :cheer2: pixiedust: :wave2: We are five (2 adults & 3 children - 7,5, & 2) and staying at Shades of Green.

So, how does the reservation work? Do we just give the hotel the number? How do we pay for it? :confused3

All you need to do right now is give your hotel the gatherings number. I'll call later today and make the ressie for the illuminations. We pay 45 days in advance. I'm sure i can set it up where each person can call and pay for their family. I'll find out when i call later today.

If you are going to participate in this and are staying on property you need to add our grand gatherings number to your resort reservation. So you don't have to go back and look for it the number is 824529.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

LissaOk, so we call tomorrow and add this number to our resort ressie? Just trying to get this right, thx!

Since I'm still up.......I was reading some threads on the main forum.......this is advice on how to tour Tortola w/o a tour..........

<<Tortola is like my home away from home My husband and I charter a sailboat there and sail the BVI every year at least once! It is a little piece of heaven.

Whatever you do, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go with the rest of the folks to Cane Garden Bay when there are cruise ships in Road Town.

In general, you can get almost anywhere on Tortola for about $20/pp in a cab -- one way. That being said....if you skip all the taxis gathered at the dock and meander your way to the taxi stand by the Road Town ferry dock - just walk to your left, through the flea market as you get off the ship -- the ferry dock is across the street from Pusser's and there's a taxi stand right there.

I would recommend taking a taxi over to Trellis Bay for the day. Pack your beach bag, a towel, etc -- and head on over. Grab something to eat for breakfast at Da Loose Mongoose and hang out for a while -- there's also a free ferry service from Trellis over to Marina Cay -- which is GORGEOUS. Lovely beach, beautiful water, there's a Pusser's and a Pusser's Store on Marina Cay -- you can get yourself a painkiller (best rum drink in the universe) or 2 or 3...and just tell your taxi driver to meet you back at Trellis Bay in time to get you back to the ship.

You could also opt for heading over to Brewer's Bay for the day -- it's the beach right before you get to Cane Garden Bay -- also absolutely beautiful and might not be quite as crowded as Cane Garden -- there are limited places to park yourself as there is really only one beach bar so there's not a ton of beach chairs (if any) that might be available.

You could also opt for taking a taxi over to Long Bay Beach Resort if you wanted more of a "full service" atmosphere.

I would opt for a day at the beach any way you look at it on Tortola -- there are just too many beautiful ones! >>

Congrats to your daughter!!!!!!:cool1: :cool1:

I've been checking out Cruise Critic to see what they say. Tom & I are not big beachgoers and we will have a whole day at Castaway Cay. We like to tour wherever we go and see the island that way. Then, maybe a snorkle beach stop for an hour or two. We'll probably do a DCL excursion. Andrew recommended the Baths and they are supposed to be a good place to snorkle. So we'll see what times the excursions are offered before we decide.

St. Maarten doesn't seem to have a whole lot except Orient Beach and shopping. Anyone have any suggestions??

Haven't had a chance to check out St. Thomas/St. John. We haven't been to either and I would love to see both, but not sure how feasible this would be in one day. Any ideas?

We were to St. Thomas and did a DCL excursion which gave a bus tour of the island and a couple of hours at a beach resort. I'd like to go to St. John's but I thnk it's mostly beach excursions. We really haven't decided yet what we're going to do.

There's a lot more than beaches on both islands, but, the beaches especially on St. John, are some of the most beautiful in the world.......I will be traveling there in April on a land trip, so I've been doing some research. Also, these will begin in the Spring so we can read their trip reports before we decide on excursions which should be an advantage........:beach:

<<Every December 25th I see a movie and eat lots of Chinese food. Being Jewish in a world where people start getting ready for Christmas right after Halloween can be difficult at times. Although, I do celebrate Hanukkah and exchange gifts with my friends and family, it still is not the same. It is very boring being Jewish during the holiday season.

People always ask me, "So you never had a Christmas tree?" "What do you do on Christmas morning?" "You don't even celebrate it a little?"

Honestly, my family and I do not celebrate it at all; it is not apart of our religion. It does not bother me too much because we have our own traditions, and it is all I have ever known. I get to sleep in on Christmas morning, which does not happen too often. My siblings or other Jewish friends and I go to the movie theater and for dinner we eat lots and lots of Chinese food.

However, this past December 25th became Christmas for me. My best friend, Tracy, told me Christmas dinner was at her house this year and that I could come.

Tray told me I could come celebrate with her and her family about a week and a half before Christmas. Every day I would call her and ask different questions. "Are you sure it is okay if I come? What should I bring? What should I wear?"

Although Tracy has been my best friend since kindergarten, and I know her family very well I was still really nervous. I honestly had no idea what to expect and I did not know how I should behave. Anything I know about Christmas dinners is from what I have seen on TV and in the movies. Tracy understood and explained that it is a normal dinner with a lot more food, a lot more people, and a bit fancier.

I was the first one to arrive to their Christmas dinner. I was so happy to see that I was not the only one wearing a dress. I was nervous that I was going to be overdressed.

Before everyone else arrived, Tracy's mom took pictures of Tracy and I in front of the Christmas tree. Apparently I was not the only one who was excited for my first Christmas.

After everyone arrived, and after all the kissing and hellos, we sat down to eat dinner. Before we could eat we had to say grace. I felt uncomfortable because I have never said grace before, I had no clue what to say or do. Tracy just told me to hold her hand and put my head down.

Everyone was extremely hungry. I think we all purposely did not eat all day, so we could eat a lot at dinner. There was so much food; there was ham and turkey. There was also stuffing, a pineapple dish, garlic bread, salad, green beans, and mashed potatoes. It was all very delicious. Just when I thought I could not eat anymore, dessert came out. There were gingerbread men cookies, pitzels, sugar cookies, and chocolate covered pretzels.

After dinner and dessert everyone exchanged gifts. Tracy's family even got me a gift; that was so thoughtful. I am so thankful Tracy's family allowed me to celebrate Christmas with them.

Usually December 25th is a long, boring day for me because everyone is busy and no stores are open. However, this Christmas was enlightening and fun. I know Christmas has an important history, but I really got to see how wonderful it is for a family to be reunited during this time of year. I am certainly looking forward to Christmas next year. >> Hope you liked it, it brought a smile to my face!!:goodvibes

Joann: how was your inauguration coverage?:confused3 :grouphug:

AWESOME!!!! :cool1: We set up three large flat panel TVs in the garden and had the projector playing in the conference room inside. We crammed more than 400 people in and still had people standing on the street peering through the fence to see. (mini-Mall??? :crowded: )

But what was really cool was that our guests were clapping and cheering during the speech - really responding to what the President said in his message. The loudest uproar came after the passage inviting corrupt dictators to loosen their grip on power and join the U.S. in partnership!

I don't know who was more excited - the Burkinabč or the Americans! Your taxpayer dollars at work!!!

I'll be anxious to hear your trip report.

I want to thank you for taking your precious time to go to the island before our trip to check out everything for this group! What a kind person you are:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :beach:

Wendy: congrats to your daughter!:cheer2: :car: I am NOT happy about teaching my son to drive....my husband DEFINITELY has more patience than I do with this task! For example: (and thank goodness this was in town and no other cars around!) he thought he didn't need to stop at the stop sign "because the guy in front of him didn't stop":scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: This is going to be a l-o-n-g spring!

:grouphug:

Thank-you. My husband did most of the work. He practiced driving with her all the time. I don't have the patience , either, or the nerves to do it. Good luck with your son learniing to drive.

Just got off the phone with WDW. Can't book this yet as it is not 180 days so i will call next Saturday and book it. I can not book it until those that want to be involved add the grand gathering number to their hotel reservation. If your a DVC member you can do this by calling member services others can call CRO. So you don't have to look for the number it is 824529.

i won't be 'in the World' to meet you guys Friday night (you just don't know what YOU ARE MISSING:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: )

I'm bored today - my DH is working today and tomorrow (retail!!! not bad though, only works one out of three weekends)....now, saying I'm bored doesn't mean there aren't tons of things to be done - Bob mentioned a few things i could do today - oh, well, didn't happen AGAIN! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (I'm always waiting for 'that blizzard' to do those chores he mentioned:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )
Took my son out driving....we only had ONE close call (a HUGE close call if you know what I mean:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: )....down to one close one in 45 minutes, guess you could say it is getting better?:confused3 Next weekend his dad can take him on the road.

Unfortunately we are out for Friday night as well. We will be flying in and staying at the Hyatt at the airport and waiting on DMIL to arrive. She will need special assistance so we want to be close to her arrival.

Today we rented her a motorized scooter for the ship. It will be so good for her to have one as she will not want to miss a thing! She was so cute on the phone today. She asked Mark, "Will I get to see Mickey even though we are on the cruise?" She is like taking one of the kids......out seeking autographs!:lmao:

Spent 40 minutes today on my new Wii Fit that I got for my birthday! DD9 and I did all the workout exercises. We giggled so much doing the balance games especially when I rolled down the hill turning into a snowball when I failed at the ski jump!:rotfl:

I LOVE it, Jenny! :cool1: Your MIL being so excited about meeting Mickey. :grouphug:
I really do enjoy cruising with people who are so excited about the small things (I LOVE DISers too!:disrocks: ).....when my DH and I escaped in September and we 'met' this other couple at the airport, we had a better time than being alone (sorry, Bob!:lmao: :lmao: ).we still e-mail each other....they were newbies to the ship and we had so much fun introducing them to everything on the ship and ports.....:beach: :boat:
the excitement in others makes my trip so much more enjoyable:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: .

She will be so excited about how many characters she will see::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo :stitch2: :goofy: :mickeybar :mickeybar (pardon the Mickey Bar....it IS my favorite dessert on the ship)......i want to 'hang out' with her and see the enjoyment in her eyes. We are spoiled by going to Disney all the time, being on a Disney ship at least 7 times and seeing the characters, we don't appreciate it as much as a newbie!:sad2:
BUT, since we only go to Disney on our vacations, you know how much we LOVE Disney...don't wanna do anything else!:sad2: pixiedust:

FYI - Grand Gatherings - Illuminations

Just spoke with Gilda at DVC Member Services who was exceptionally knowledgeable.

I gave her the # and she wanted to know the name of the Grand Gatherining so make sure you know. I told her Disboards and she said close enough. That is to make sure in case the number is wrong. They then asked for the person who booked it and where they are staying. I just said Lissa - didn't have more info. Luckily she was able to find it. They then have to fill out a form on their end. She said they will call me in 7-14 business days to tell me that it was linked to my ressie.

Just wanted to let you know so you know what info you need when you call. Not sure how this will affect you calling and confirming on Mon. Lissa.

OK, thx to all, I did add the GG to our ressie at our hotel with the number Lissa provided. She did say that there is a 8 person minumum........so we have at least that at this point. That should be enough to get us started and then more can be added as people are available.

:wave2: I'm here - lurking a bit, enjoying my first week without extended family in my house since before Christmas, catching up on laundry, and in general just trying to get back in the swing of the kids' activities.

I have to laugh about the adventures of teenage drivers. My favorite driving story - my dad taught me how to drive manual, in the jr. college parking lot, with a cup of coffee in his hand (before travel mugs) "You WILL shift smoothly..." I knew I was doing well when he fell asleep... :lmao:

Overall, I'd still rather drive with my dad than my mom...

The only thing she said was that she couldn't do it today.....I think that coincides with Lissa saying we have to be 180 days out, which is next weekend. I think if you link the ressie number to your hotel stay, Joann #2, you'll be part of our ressie when Lissa makes it next week. Am I right, Lissa?:confused3
