Hi everyone!
Just trying to be the last one to sign in here :) Even though this is our 3rd DCL cruise, I only recently found this board. Been doing lots of reading!
I (Mick) will be traveling with my wife Cheryl, sons Matt (17) and Eric (15), and daughter Christina (12). The boys have already decided that they'll be hanging out in the Stack and connecting with the other teens on the ship. We'll have to see about whether Christina will want to go off on her own or hang out with us (either way is OK with me).
We'll be leaving Sudbury, MA and flying down on Friday the 21st and staying at the airport Hyatt for the night. We'll be squeezing ourselves into 8060 - it will be interesting to see how cramped it is with the kids so big now. Thought about 2 rooms, but decided to stay with the one.
Looking forward to all the activities and some quiet time on the Desk 4 chairs :-)
Mick
My daughter is 11 so maybe her and Christina will see each other at Ocean Quest. I too am wondering if she will go off on her own or hang with us.

I spent yesterday evening ironing and packing our suit cases. Around 11pm I jumped on the scale with the luggage and now I need to figure what I can unpack :headache: I need to lose almost 5 lbs from each suit case. I think it would be easier to lose 5 lbs on myself because I don't know where to start.
I did this same thing on our last trip! I had to repack 3 times to get it under 50 pounds. I had a smaller suitcase, so I tried to put the heavier stuff in there (Mark's sneakers, toiletries, jeans). I finally got it to 47 pounds.
On the way back I didn't have a scale, so I just tried to pack the same way, but when we checked the bag, the guy said it felt a little heavy and weighed it. I saw it was 53 pounds, but all he said was that it was fine. So the key must be to check the bag at the curb, and tip the skycab well!

Hey MickC, my family is heading down on the 21st from S. Deerfield, MA (if you've ever heard of it, near UMass Amherst) Are you leaving from Logan? We fly out of Bradley, I'll be the one attempting to herd 2 toddlers.

Welcome MickC.....glad you found us.....we've got quite a lot of kids both in the Stack and in Oceans Quest. Please come to the DIS meet on Saturday so we can get all the kids together.
I know exactly what everybody is going through with trying to keep the luggage weight within restrictions. We have a huge problem with that because we bring our own snorkeling gear and I like to keep that all in one suitcase.
I pack everyone's suitcases separately then end up having to split things up as I realize some suitcases are heavier than others.
It was great when the kids were little and their stuff didn't weigh as much.
I totally agree with the advice to take advantage of curbside check in as they seem more lenient about the weight restrictions.
I, too, am totally looking forward to the Bellatrix/Molly Weasley showdown in the final Harry Potter movies. That fight scene is going to be great.
I listen to music all the time so I'm really prone to getting songs stuck in my head. Those sailaway songs really are sticky on the brain.

I just may do that too. What a great chance to get my sons and daughter to meet other kids prior to going into the kids club.

Well that is good to know. I won't have far to go to deliver your FEs since we are in 2146 and 2148. We were in 2138 last year when we were on the Panama East Bound Cruise. I am a little worried about the engine noise in our current cabins, but this is all we could get when we wanted connecting rooms. 2138 was absolutely fine.
Quick question then about 2138 and 2140- do either one have one of the pull down beds on the wall? My 6yo saw this on a video about DCL and has been obsessing about sleeping in this pull down bed- LOL Dont know how to tell her she might not have one!

And almost won the Quiz night in the Leaders Bar one night too!
Is the kids thing local or a new politically correct movement? Really replying to say how happy I am that you had a great time at camp, and how jealous I am that you have a LEADERS BAR in camp. Any alcohol anywhere near any Scouting event and you are banned for life in the US.

As long as one of those rooms sleeps 4, there will be a bed that pulls down from the ceiling. It is pretty cool!

I had the same reaction to reading that....would love to have a leaders bar at our camping places.
A fellow leader told this great story where she was on a Scout camping trip and the letter they received upon arrival at the camp said "no alcohol or illegal drugs". Everyone joked that "legal" drugs would be okay.

As a guy, if I ever found myself having to babysit a girl scout camp, there's no way I could make it through the week without my perfectly-legal leftover vicodan:laughing:
Boy Scouts, on the other hand, I could get through the week with just the Tylenol.
Next week's cruise, hopefully I won't need anything more than CAFFEINE!

Hello All,
No I did not fall off the face of the earth. Mini trips to the Jersey shore and job hunting has kept me busy. I hope everyone is having fun in Florida. I will be finishing FE's with Kyle this weekend. Bags are out and partially packed. We can not wait to meet all of you. We leave early on the 21st and will be at Sea World that day. Are we still thinking of having dinner at one of the hotels on the the 21? We are staying across from Sea World. Gotta run I hope Kyle has been emailing everyone but he is at his Dad's house in delaware and I really have no control over what happens there. PS forget who is addicted to Wawa coffee, but so am I. As a native Texan who moved to PA when my aunt first said that name I laughed so hard I almost peed myself!!!!!:laughing:Gosh next Friday cannot come soon enough. :yay:

2136 sleeps 4 and it had the bed that pulls down from the ceiling. I'm not sure what 2138 and 2140 are like - if they sleep 4 then your 6yo will be very happy.

ERik just went to bed 'cause he has to work in the morning.

Don't worry, KC - I am mostly parked and just waiting for a last load of laundry before I finish packing.
Of course the toiletries don't get packed until morning :)
Christi I am so jealous of you - and still mad at Jimmy. A month after announcing West coast tour dates Jimmy canceled them and eventually added east coast dates as well as Paris.
We took the puppy to a friend's house this evening. DS 7 is still crying over leaving her. I'm sure he'll be having too much fun to think of her by Monday :)

So I called to reservations line and asked what movies will be showing on the 8/22 sailing. Ruby said that the following movies are currently "in rotation":
Bolt
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Race to Witch Mountain
Hannah Montana Movie
Earth
Up
The Proposal
G-Force
I'm so looking forward to Race (love THE ROCK), the Proposal and G-Force. Thought it was stange she didn't mention Ponyo.
She also indicated that we will be treated to a PrimEAR at Sea: Surrogates. Never heard of it, so I IMDB'd it (descrition below). I should note that IMDB indicates that its release date is 9/25, so I think Ruby might have misunderstood when I said we were sailing. But, in case she was right:
The filmmaking trio behind the hit sci-fi sequel Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines re-team to explore a future in which humans live in isolation while only communicating with their fellow man through robots that serve as social surrogates and are better-looking versions of their human counterparts. Bruce Willis stars as an FBI agent who enlists the aid of his own surrogate to investigate the murder of the genius college student who invented the surrogates. As the case grows more complicated, however, the withdrawn detective discovers that in order to actually catch the killer he will have to venture outside the safety of his own home for the first time in many years, and enlists the aid of another agent (Radha Mitchell) in tracking his target down. Jonathan Mostow directs co-screenwriters Michael Ferris and John Brancato's adaptation of the graphic novel by author Robert Venditti and illustrator Brett Weldele.

Tropical depression #2 is now being referred to as a "remnant low" so I think we have nothing to fear from that particular system. However, the one that just came off the Cape Verde islands is causing some excitement. The Weather Channel is saying that models are indicating that this could be a hurricane that could be impacting the southeast in the next 10 days. Still alot of uncertainty there. Hopefully, it will peter out and won't be an issue for anyone.

See you onboard Brian.....safe travels.
Denise....thanks for the movie update. DD & I saw Race to Witch mountain. Movie was pretty good though I prefer the original.
Regarding potential hurricanes......it's so hard to predict this far away. I've been on 8 DCL cruises in the summer and only once got directly impacted by a hurricane. I was on the Wonder last summer that got diverted to Miami. I'd be more upset if we missed one of our ports as I've got private excursions set up at both Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
DCL did an amazing job diverting the Wonder to Miami. They bussed all the passengers back and forth to Port Canaveral. All the food that normally gets loaded in Port Canaveral had to be sent to Miami. Clearly DCL is prepared for events like this.
Thank you, Denise. One hour, 15 minutes to go so I guess this is my goodbye note.

My DD is also 11 so she will be happy to hear that there is another girl her age nearby. Your rooms are in a great location. We really tried to get adjoining rooms that veered a little closer to mid-ship but no luck. We are stuck with 2146 and 2148 this time. I think I have typed incorrect room numbers in the past. I am so confused but I am positive now that 2146 and 2148 are correct.

As it is not a theatrical release, it will hopefully be showing on the Ariel Screen by the pool. Actually, it better be! Paige is missing her best friends birthday party on Friday night, where they were going to watch the premiere. To save my sanity, at the very least I'm hoping the Residence Inn at MCO has the Disney Channel!

You can't change the rotation beforehand. You can request a certain rotation but that isn't guaranteed. But you can request a change once you get onboard. I think you ask the head server - ask about when you check in and find out the rotation (it will be printed on your KTTW card).

Greetings from Orlando!
Flight coming to Seattle was 20 minutes late, but the staff did their best to give us a quick turnaround so we were only 10 minutes late pulling away from the gate. Then, taxiing out, we pull over to the side and sit for almost 10 minutes. Finally the captian reports a problem not with the engine, but with a sensor. They shut down engine number 2, reset the system, and restarted the engine then everything ran properly. This meant we were leaving Seattle about 30 minutes late - and we had a 45 minute layover in Salt Lake. I didn't think it was a problem, because we were scheduled into the gate directly across from our connecting flight.
Arriving in Salt Lake, only 15 minutes behind schedule, we taxiied to the next concourse over from our connecting flight! Fortunately I had requested a wheelchair for DD, and the customer care person pushed that wheelchair VERY quickly, so fast that we got to the connecting gate before main cabin boarding had begun! :) We had time to use the lavatory and the flight attendant provided some beverages as we cooled down from the forced march between gates.
All is well, we arrived in Orlando on time. And surprisingly, our checked luggage was all on the carousel by the time we got to baggage claim!
See you all in a week :)
Safe travels, everybody!

Anna shouldn't be an issue. Currently they are saying it should hit southern Florida Thursday morning, and chances of it being a hurricane at that point are only 30%.
But tropical depression three has me very concerned. I will be downright worried if it strengthens as forecast and the forecast cone still shows it coming this way on the Tuesday morning forecast. Let's hope things go well...

Safe travels for all chili cruisers leaving this weekend.
We're beginning to get giddy around here. I will be getting down the suitcases tonight and start assembling all the clothes. Last week I got new snorkeling gear for both kids (darn those growth spurts). Had to buy new pants for both kids as they've outgrown what they wore last spring (curse those growth spurts).
At least their dress shoes still fit.
Boy, gorgeous weather here in NJ. This morning DD had a three hour tryout for our fall softball travel team. That was tough in the heat as this is the first consistently hot weather we've had all summer and we're not used to temperatures above 80 degrees :beach:
Alright, I'll admit it, I'm getting concerned about the pick up in tropical storm activity in the Altantic. It was just too good to last that we went this far into the summer without any hurricanes.
Its so frustrating that you cannot predict a thing - we'll just be biting our nails waiting to see if any storms get organized, then wait to see the track then wait to see the timing.
Speaking of timing....I completely forgot that there were preseason football games last night. Wanted to watch the Jets game and Mark Sanchez. Oh well. Scary moment if you are a baseball fan.....David Wright got hit in the head by a pitch and taken to the hospital.

David.....fantastic pics. :thumbsup2 We Scout leaders in the U.S. could only dream of having a bar like that at our camping trips. That is way too civilized.
Loved the sign that said "crooked staff". Next time I'm in charge of a camping trip I'm going to put up a sign like that on my door/tent....make it a play on words.

Hey MickC, my family is heading down on the 21st from S. Deerfield, MA (if you've ever heard of it, near UMass Amherst) Are you leaving from Logan? We fly out of Bradley, I'll be the one attempting to herd 2 toddlers.
We'll be flying out of Providence (first time for us!). Was actually our your way (sort of) at 6 Flags this past Thursday with 3 teenagers (2 of mine and a friend).

The Scouting looks fun Fluffy Bunny and Maza.
Hope I can get a few pix of our summer camp before we go. The gentleman with the disc is off on a personal vacation now, and will likely not return in time. Here is one that I snapped when the boys were off at skills.

For the first time this year we were able to motivate the troop to compete in the camp competitions. Our big wins were Honor Troop, The Nature Scavenger hunt (one point off the all time high) and Archery (we swept all 12 awards and took second in many of them, too).

For those of us still bothering to count!
The kids are starting to think I am addicted to the Weather Channel (actually, I am a long time addict, the joke around here is that my Jim was named for Jim Cantore). Anyway, I'm thinking positive, and it looks like our flight to Florida on Friday may be bumpy, but a go. I don't think there will be any problem getting to the port on Saturday at all. Once we get on the boat, who knows :confused3.
Most toiletries got packed yesterday, laundry is going, and I need to borrow a bigger suitcase from my parents, but packing goes on. It's going to be near 90 here today, so hoping to squeeze in a trip to the pool. Can't believe the wait is almost over!:yay:

"Hello, my name is Tammi and I am also a Weather Channel Addict":rotfl:
But seriously, I have always loved the weather channel for two reason:
1. I am a teacher in Michigan where getting a phone call at 5 am saying you don't have to go to work (snow day) feels like you won the lottery.
2. I love thunderstorms. I darker the sky the more expected I get. I am sure when I am old and gray I will be sitting in my garage watching the storms roll in, but for now I have to be responsible and make sure the kiddos are inside and safe.
I, too, had to borrow bigger luggage from my parents. The kids are I leave on Tuesday and Jon will join us late Wednesday night (his boss is a big meanie:mad:).
I am all packed, the house is clean and my classroom is all set up and ready to go. I am just waiting and watching the weather channel as time passes.

Another weather channel fan. Personally, I think Jim Cantore is kind of hot :lovestruc ;)
My all time favorite was Paul Kosin, the winter weather expert. If he came on then you knew there was going to be a big snow dump.
As a skier, I am a weather junkie. During the winter I'm always checking accuweather.com.
Yes, it does appear that T.S. Bill won't be a big threat to us (whew). Hopefully the worst will be some overcast weather for the sailaway party.
For those of us still around and posting this week, let's post on each day what we will be doing on that particular day on the Magic. Today will be Key West day. We're planning on staying onboard and not doing doing any excursions. We'll spend the money on excursions in Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

I think at Key West, we're going to get off and just walk around for a few hours. I would like to go to the southernmost point just to say I did it. Maybe shop a bit.
We have Palo at 6pm on Key West day so we'll make sure we're back in plenty of time.
Key West day- we will be having a bit of a walk around, picking up a few t-shirts in Margaretaville, i have a friend who is a big Jimmy B fan:)...maybe a little train trip. Then hanging round Mallory Square waiting for the sun to go down...with a glass in hand ...obv:rolleyes1
Last time we where in Key west we had to leave wwwwaaaayyy before sundown...so this time we want to join in! Love those Florida sunsets:cool2:
Scouting- yes, well,,, the camp was awsome:lovestruc...not too much of the traditional scouting malarky...just a bit of climbing and absailing...but great fun. Planning next years trip already, but this will be a more traditional affair, which meand more work for the Scouters...but hey ho! I just provide the kit and food:) We are planning to take Daves older Scouts ( 14+)..and a few Explorers ( 14+)lol...to Gilwell24 next year. should be interesting:rotfl2:
well, I have scrubbed my kitchen, if we are burgled whilst on holiday atleast they wont think someone had beat them to it:rolleyes:...just a few more rooms to go...and just one more working day :banana:
DH is tracking tropical storms as we speak...I am nodding...but not really listening...is it Claudette next:confused3....ah..we are old hurricain hands..and on a boat. As long as nothing stops us getting to Fl I will be happy:yay:

Yes Christie...Bin Bag Bond evening. They had to make formal wear out of bin bags (although 'formal' was obviously debatable!) The girly on the right in a blue bin bag dress is our eldest DD...showing that some ppl can look good in bin bags:hug:

Finally kicked out all of the relations that I can't claim on my tax return!! Now to finish cleaning up after them!! We are exhausted, but excited to spend the next few days on cruise preparations!! :woohoo:
Have tons still left to do, including a complete scrub down of my house (especially my powder room that my dim bulb sister flooded last night at midnight)!! Some lame "it wasn't my fault" comment, but DH wasn't buying it. He told her that the rule of thumb is when your A$$ gets wet, you stop flushing!!!:lmao::lmao: You definitely need comic relief when your immediate family is comprised of 24 people!!!
Our plans for Key West have changed since the seas seem like they could be choppy. We were going to go on a snorkeling catamaran trip, but are now going to do the trolley and walk around. Have to hit the southermost point and get the key lime on a stick among other stops. I found a great spot (which I'll share once I find my notes) at a roof top patio/lounge of a hotel that you can see all over key west, the atlantic ocean and the caribbean sea. Just haven't decided if we'll start there or sunset there.
I'm with all the ladies and their crushes on Jim Cantore. He is great!! They probably put him on site to distract the women from the bedlam outside!! It would work for me!!
Can't wait to see you all!!

Today will be Key West day.
Christi and the kids and I were going to walk to Fort Zachary Taylor, until we saw pictures not taken from a favorable angle and saw that the San Juan Forts or others we have been to are far larger and this would be a letdown.
Therefore, we will be walking Whitehead Street to the Southernmost point Buoy and then hitting South Beach for a swim. Then we will stroll through Duval Street back and hit the shops, get some Key Lime Pie, a Margarita of course from JB's and wait for the sunset at Malory Square.

Maria - Sorry, but we leave Key West about an hour before sunset. I'll miss sunset from Mallory Square as well. But we'll have fun on the ship!
The current forcast for TS (almost hurricane) Bill keeps it well offshore. So we might have rougher than normal seas leaving Port Canaveral, but other than that issue the forecast looks great for our cruise!
Six days from right now we'll be enjoying the sailaway party! See you all soon!

Yes he is :thumbsup2. I have trouble falling asleep when I am alone in the house. Every noise is someone breaking in, even though I know it's just the house settling, a car outside, etc. I find that if I leave the TV on, I can't hear the noises, and I fall asleep. But, you have to be careful what you leave on, lest you wake up at 2 AM to a slasher flick :scared1:. (Try to get back to sleep after that).
The point of this story? When we first got married, Mark was working many nights. Jim Cantore was doing mostly late nights way back then. Many a night, I have slept with Jim Cantore!:rolleyes1

Count us among the aimless wanderers around Key West. We'll be standing in line to get a picture of the kids at the southern-most point of the US. We'll get a key lime pie on a stick. We'll get a picture at the end of Route 1. And, we have to get a picture at the corner of Caroline and Whitehead, as I know Caroline Whitehead, and she collects such pictures.:)
We also will be looking for pirate t-shirts for the kids for pirate night. I actually had a really cute black t-shirt for Paige, with a pink sparkly skull and crossbones, but I can not find it anywhere. It's driving me nuts!
Plan to spend sunset on the ship, watching the action on the dock as we pull away.

That's actually not a bad thing.....I find it rocks you to a deep sleep at night. And to be honest, I don't like when the sun is blaring during the sailaway party, it can be too bright and too hot on deck.

Ok, let me see if I can figure this out. There is a 4 hour time difference between you and me (I think). 20.00 hours I'm assuming is military time, so that means you have to be there until 8 PM your time, which would then be 4 PM my time? Which means you still have more than 8 hours left :crazy2:. Of course, that is provided my math is correct.

Yea Terri, sorry. This is for the 1 (yes count it ONE) duty free bottle you get to bring back into the USA from the Caribbean. The good news is, if you scroll back about 500 posts, that DCL is the only line that allows you to bring on board. So it is kind of like the Pot discussion scene in Pulp Fiction.
Its legal to own it, and its legal to drink it if you have it, in designated areas (your room or in a drink of the day reused glass ;) ). Its legal to bring on board -- so long as it is not from Grand Cayman -- but only in a carry on sized bag. Its not legal to buy it onboard and drink it onboard unless it is in a glass from a bar.
For all of the detailed destructions, go back about three to four weeks in the discussion. Some of our mates were looking for FLA shops between the airport and cruise port. There are about three shops between the Cruise Port and Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach, less than one mile past the ship and down US1.

Also, you can bring it back on board by hand from Key West or Mexico, the ship does not accept deliveries of mystery bottles. So if you cannot get it done before you go, you can stock up in Key West. Guessing that Tequila will be cheaper in Mexico, but then again I guessed that Rum would be cheaper in the Caribbean, and Pyrat is 33% cheaper off the shelf in Michigan.
I will actually not be bringing that much on the ship with me, because I will be saving up to stock up in Florence, KY on the way home at Party Town. Many wonderful elixirs in Bourbon country that you cannot get north of the Mason-Dixon line. They keep it all for themselves.

What to do today... We took the posted Navigators and turned them into an Excel Sheet with five columns, one for Family and one for each member, and listed the things that person might want to look into for the day on each tab. That is the other thing I was doing yesterday, instead of putting in O.T. on a Sunday - as a salaried employee, as Christi pointed out.
Today we were looking at the Origami Class, the Cakes and Desserts classes, the Castaway club party, Family Magic Quest at 2p and/or the Suite Reception. Then hitting two Captains Receptions, family disco fever, and the Golden Mickey's Afterparty followed by the Cabaret Show. Oh yea, and some rest and relaxation, too.
To answer my own question from about 750 posts ago, regarding the entertainment not being all Broadway Musicals. The answer is that the Cabaret Shows are each of the entertainers doing what they do best, other than singing and dancing. So that is where you get the juggler, magician and comedian type acts. Not sure if anyone posted this recently, but saw the talk about alcohol
You CAN carry on alcohol onto the ship- you cannot put it in your checked luggage but there is no limit as to what you can carry on. Kristen and I did this in May on the podcast cruise- we had a rolling cooler full of wine and alcohol- carried our own wine to dinner each night, no problem doing that either. You can carry a bottle of wine to dinner and they will uncork it for you, but charge a uncorking fee of $20 I think.
So there you go!
We will be making an alcohol run when we arrive in Orlando on Friday :drinking1

 a few twilight extras eh....is it Edward...please say its Edward!:woohoo: Love the books...not too fussed on the film...just downloaded them onto my e-reader, for the trip :rolleyes1
Well...the 'powers that be ' did indeed spring me early:) (thank you Jackie)
The sight of my poor dejected body slumped over a PC:surfweb: was obviously too much for her and she let me go at 15:30:banana: Besides...my paperwork was all up to date, ditto my audits...and the clinical pathway I had to write has been emailed to the appropriate person!...I even returned my library books to the hospital library..and grabbed a sneaky Starbucks on the way back....got to love the selling of retail spaces in hospitals:lovestruc
so...i got home...about 16:30....to find beds not stipped, rooms not tidied...crappola alll over my spotless kitchen. Not a happy bunny:furious
but order has been restored.
One good thing...our hastily bought Scout minibus passed its MOT...which, for our American friends...IS A GOOD THING! we were just a little worried it was going to cost alot of money...but its all good!
so...one more hectic day, bit of last minute packing...and we are off.
My mum and Bro are leaving Glasgow at 0800 hrs tomorrow...not exactly sure why, but anyway! They are staying at a hotel near the airport tomorrow night, we are flying out of Manchester..which is about an hours drive for us, but about 4 for them, so they are getting the train tomorrow instead:)
so..packing...
Erik...and any other Scouters still present...we have packed a few of our group badges and some other bits if you are still interested in swapping:idea::crazy2:
this time next week....being dragged back on to the boat before Sundown...but only just apparently. Sundowners on the Port side anyone ( or is it starboard...never did get the hang of it..)

Just did an emergency dress shirt run to Kohls. Thank goodness when Mark got home from work today he thought to pull his dress shirts out for packing. He doesn't wear them for work anymore, so he hasn't had them on for a while. Somehow, they all managed to shrink while hanging in the closet :rolleyes1. I shouldn't be judgemental. Maza.....don't you just love coming home to a messy house (:thumbsup2 sarcastically). I love coming home from weekend Girl Scout camping trips and finding DH hasn't cleaned a thing since Friday night.
The DCL bottled alcohol policy is just weird. You can bring onboard at Port Canaveral all the booze you want and just pay a $15 corking fee to drink it at dinner.
But if you buy wine on the ship at the duty free shop you cannot even get the bottle until the last night of the cruise. You cannot bring wine onboard from Grand Cayman but you can in Cozumel.
What will I be doing a week from today......having a leisurely breakfast at Topsiders. Take a swim in Quiet Cove pool in the morning. Have leisurely lunch. Host the DIS party in our cabin. See the show then dinner then par-tay after dinner.

Men's tuxedos do the same thing so I came up with an excuse that I posted on the DIS a while back......
"atmospheric conditions exist in the male closet that negatively impact the molecular structure of the individual fibers in the material used to make tuxedos, thus causing shrinkage".

Thanks for everyones kind thoughts. We knew it was inevitable. But, still sad.
I got the DS headphones at Target.
It was an investment in my sanity for the drive. Matt picked out Guitar Hero-at least it is a different version than the PS2 I hear coming from the basement.

Safe travels! And I know, it's all about getting south of DC for breakfast! I have to admit, I kinda like the drive, and if our time wasn't limited I would much prefer it above flying. On our last trip south, for weeks leading up to the trip, Mark and my Dad were approaching the trip like a military sortee. They had maps spread all over the kitchen table, discussing the merits of 95 vs. 495 vs. 295. Jim finally asked "If we are going to Florida, why do we care about DC?" Because IT'S ALL ABOUT GETTING THRU DC! We ended up leaving at 4 AM, and we were thru DC (on 295) by 7/7:30. If you'll be looking for breakfast, there is a Cracker Barrel at I believe the Potomac Mills exit that was pretty tasty!

Oooh, I forgot, next Tuesday, in Grand Cayman, we will be off early and head to Boatswain Beach. We were there in November and the kids loved it so much, they can't wait to get back there. :yay:We are looking forward to enjoying the snorkeling and the pool this time. It was overcast, then drizzly the last time we were there, but the Turtles were amazing!!
If anyone is planning on doing the same and would like to share a bus, taxi, driver, etc, just let me know. We took the bus last time (taxis were hard to find unless you wanted an island tour, but they may be more readily available earlier in the morning). The bus was very inexpensive, but made a lot of stops. If we can fill one up, they'll need to go straight there!!

Our DCL luggage tags came with our cruise documents. They were in the back of the packet and kind of hidden - check yours again, it should be there.

We did this once when the kids were little. It is a bit scary at first since there are so many stingrays and they are very, very social with humans. But they are totally harmless and view them as gigantic puppies that want to play with people. Tell your kids to think of the school teacher in Finding Nemo - that is what the stingrays are like in real life.
Okay - today and tomorrow next week (did that make sense :upsidedow) are the big days for us. Today we have our deep sea fishing trip. We'll be one of the first ones off the ship since its a 1/2 day trip.
We've been trying to go on a deep sea fishing trip for the past several years. We had two shots with DCL last summer when we did back-to-back Wonder cruises. We had signed up to do the fishing trip at Castaway Cay but the fishing boat broke down that day and the trip got cancelled. Then we got hit by tropical storm Fay the second time we headed back to Castaway Cay and the fishing trip got cancelled again
So hopefully the third time is a charm and we'll be able to fish. After that trip is finished I want to do some clothes shopping. We haven't been to Grand Cayman since 2004 and the t-shirts I bought back then are getting old and frayed.
Off to get my haircut today.

We don't have anything planned. There are suppose to be 5 ships in port-18,000 people.
We may go to the beach. But, probably relax on the ship. We will have to take the kids onto the island for a while since they have never been there.
Plus, I need to get my Christmas ornament. I collect them from everywhere we travel. I have a special christmas tree just for travel ornaments.
Matt is now packed.
I should be packing my clothes, but thought I'd check the boards first.

I am too, but I think we are on opposite ends of the rainbow. I am worried that the surf in Cocoa Beach will not be high enough for fun on Friday and Saturday. The latest report is that we will get 6ft (2M) waves on Saturday for the dawn patrol. I was really hoping for something more spectacular.
Last time we were in Hawaii, I went body surfing in 18 - 24ft swells in Waimea Bay. That was fun, but we will make the best of what nature gives us on Cocoa Beach before the cruise.

I also asked them about their own transportation. They have a statement about free transportation from the pier. I'll let you know what I find out.

Just Us Baby!!!
Music to our ears......ahhhhh......there was only one other time I was on a DCL cruise and we were the only ship in a port. That was in 2006 for the double dip Costa Maya cruises. We were the only ship in Costa Maya. We had the place to ourselves and it was very comforting knowing that the majority of the other people around you were from the Magic.

That's what Target is for!
Today, no one has noted that we board in 4days.
I'm coming late to the party today because in addition to my mani-pedi, and dropping DD off/picking up at a softball clinic, I had to fit in a Doctor's appt. for DS, whose ear is very painful. So, it seems that when your eardrum bursts, that as the fluid rushes out of your ear, it can cause swimmers ear. The dr. has given him ear drops, but she is concerned that it is so swollen, and there is so much crude (her words) in this ear, that if it is not feeling better by Thursday, we will have to take him to an ENT. Great, just what you want to do the day before vacation, beg an ENT to fit you in to clean out an ear! Well, hopefully the drops will manage to squeeze in between the "crude" and work some MAGIC.
In the Caymen's (one week from today!) we will be enjoying the Catamaran Snorkel and Sail/Stingrays.

Hey gang: I can't wait till we get on that magical ship (no pun intended, lol). I, too, am getting ready for this trip; today, I got my hair cut, picked up some reading materials, some toliet trees, and went to the bank. I was a little worried about my budget but I think I'll be A-OK. I switched a shore excursion in Cozumel. I was gonna do the dune buggy but I have no clue how to drive a stick shift and quite honestly, I don't want to invest in something that I'll have a hard time doing. Plus, I wanna relax on this vacay with limited movement, so I booked the Conzumel Beach Break. A Disney reservationsit was so nice and patient and helped me pick this excursion by sharing her own wonderful experiences.
Tomorrow, go to bank for gift cards and start packing.
And stsomewhere, I have a dog who enjoys getting underwear. My friend, you are not alone in that torture.
Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!! Mickey, here I come! God bless and happy Mickey

Hey all! Hello from Orlando. We've almost finished phase one of our stay - we've just packed up, ready for three nights at AKL.
The weather has been great here - never too stifling, but Blizzard Beach was a washout today. Though we did laugh sitting there in a downpour eating a burger and fries, surrounded by thunder and lightning!
Anyhow... Just checking in to say hello - see you all aboard on Saturday!

Hey Brian~
I've been thinking about your family, hoping you are having a great time and wondering how your daughter is doing, getting around in WDW.
Not too much longer and you'll be on your first Disney Cruise!! :cheer2: Nothing like the very first one. As prepared as you are, you are still going to be overwhelmed by the Magic (and the magic)!!
Terri
Hi Terri,
Kirstin is doing just fine. The rest of us are the ones getting worn out, and she keeps going strong! But today at Sea World, between a few rain showers, a major (at least to me) thunderstorm, and getting saturated on the Journey to Atlantis ride, she started shivering more than we would like. So she gave us a good excuse to head out of the park and change into dry clothes.
I am hoping to take at least tomorrow morning off just to give my feet a break, and I am really looking forward to relaxing on the Magic! I am sure I will be overwhelmed, but I am looking forward to sharing it with you all!

Your puppy too? Several times when cleaning my backyard I noticed some weird looking sticks, but didn't think more about it. Then one day I was walking her and she dropped one of those sticks. I bagged it then hosed it down when I got home and was amazed to find underwear! Talk about variations on a skidmark!

Don't I wish. He has enough money left over to purchase a board. After Christi spends all my money on cruising, I could never afford a board. (Not that I am complaining, just stating the facts) Besides, boards just get in the way... until you learn how to use one.
I was body surfing, just me and the wave. At 18' the wave has plenty of power to throw you around. In fact, one biggun' crawled up the beach and grabbed a college-age girl and ripped her down into the ocean and the lifeguards had to make a human chain to save her. They just did not wait for her to get out to me.

Next week at this time, Cozumel. For most of the day, we plan to enjoy the ship while everyone else gets off, although we do plan to head to the market and do some bargaining, maybe find a margarita. We have Palo that night :thumbsup2.

This time next week, we will be heading for Cozumel...
Our plan is to relax on the ship in the morning and then we are doing the Fury Catamaran snorkel and beach excursion. I have cameras for each of the kids so they can take some pictures while we snorkel.
Pirate party will be that night and the costumes for the kids are ready! I am a little bummed we will miss dinner as we have early seating and our excursion does not get back until 5:55pm.

Let's see today is Wednesday, at the apogee of our travels on the Magic. We are waking up to Cozumel.
The Marlin's will be slamming into gear to get on the Ruins Tour Bus. I saw some travel shows about Tulum and the area around the ruins looks really cool, probably no stopping there, but we can check it out on the way through and decide if we want a whole week somewhere nearby.
If there is time when we get back to the ship, there may be a little Mezcal sampling at one of the shops. Last time we were in Cozumel, I stopped at one of the booths, I am not sure if the planets were in alignment or what, but 1/2 a shot of Mezcal put me over the edge for quite some time.
Notes on other posts:
Wow, those were some dog logs, with the drawers inside. I was going to take credit for the training, but it seems this is a natural phenom.
Won't get around to posting Thurs and Friday, so I will in advance: Lounging around and doing nothing!! Perhaps I will gather enough strength to walk down the beach and grab a Konk Kooler on Friday.
One last item: For anyone who is wanting to stop for liquor to board the ship while in transit. I called down to plan ahead and it seems the ABC shops are the big ones that buy in volume and discount. They were up to $5 per bottle cheaper than the small private stores. Also, I thought that Florida was a State Shop liquor control, but they are not. So each store sets the prices and they are market driven. Airport and Orlando shops will be more expensive than ones in less touristy areas. I was also happily shocked to hear that my favorite blended scotch was half-price compared to Michigan at ABC. Don't want to take a "good" bottle on board and have to dump it out. REMEMBER: You can't bring it back.

Don't worry there is plenty of food on board for you, no one goes hungry. On the flip side of that, if you find out your dining rotation and learn that this is the night that you would have seen the Animators Palace Show, you may want to consider asking for an alternate rotation so you don't miss that event. We will be checking our A.P. Show vs. our Paolo reservation and debating a swap, too.

OK, so I was over on the Weather Channel website checking on Bill (I know it is no threat to our cruise, but still curious), and I started checking on our ports. Interesting pattern:
Cape Canaveral, Sat, 89 and Scattered T-storms
Key West, Sun, 89 and Scattered T-storms
Caymen Brac, Tues, 89 and Scattered T-storms
Cozumel, Wed, 87 and......Showers (:sad2:) (Of course, predicting weather a week out is certainly not exact science.)
Today's weather in beautiful Downtown Newtown? 89 and....Isolated T-storms!

How sweet! I hope the kids didn't get upset leaving the puppy behind - when we dropped off our puppy with friends Brennan, 7, started crying - and has been crying ever since if somebody mentions the puppy.
Regarding Sea World, we were just there yesterday and I have some important advice - save Journey to Atlantis for LAST, and use the 50 cent lockers for anything that can't handle immersion in water. The ride is designed so if you don't get wet on the big drop, your clothes will be completely saturated somewhere else! And in Shamu stadium, the entire lower half of the stadium is a splash zone. A friend who works on the show told me the big orca can splash the first two rows of the upper section!
It's very hard to enjoy yourself when your clothes are completely soaked, so take the warning for Journey to Atlantis seriously!

3 Days To Go!!!!!!
The puppy stories are too funny. :rotfl::cutie: What is it about underwear and puppies? My brother got a puppy and he only went for my niece's underwear - and that was her thongs!!!!! She was just mortified to see the puppy run down the stairs with her thong wrapped around the puppies head. :lmao:
Good to read we've got a group that knows its alcohol. Word of advice on ordering margaritas onboard. Many of the CMs make them on the sour side. You have to ask them to make them sweet. And if you're willing to spend the extra $$$ then ask the CM to use a better quality tequilla.
Safe travels to everyone who is on the road last night and today. The remaining group here is dwindling.
We have a big excursion planned in Cozumel. A three reef snorkeling trip with Eagle Ray Divers. We did this trip back in 2006 and loved it!!!! Only back then Cozumel was still recovering from hurricane Wilma and the snorkeling wasn't as good. Hopefully the fish population has recovered.
This excursion ends around 3pm so not too much time to shop. We usually make a quick round of the shops close to the pier. I'm the one in the family that haggles with vendors.
Both kids are on a one night camping trip with their summer camp. They are just tent camping about 1/2 hour from their camp. But its a strenuous mile long walk to the campsite and last year both kids had brought bulky luggage. It was a miserable hike.
This year they went with the "less is more" principle and just put their pajamas and change of clothes in their school backpacks. Then they can just carry the sleeping bag in their hands.

I just literally started packing the non-clothes: snorkeling gear, beach stuff. Then I picked out what I'm going to wear on formal and semi formal night. Got out the pirate costume. And then outfits for all the casual nights. Plus shoes.
In the past my formal and semi formal outfits were different colors meaning I had to wearing different colored shoes. Not this year. Both outfits are black so I can wear the same shoes.
I'm doing everyone's laundry right now. Tomorrow I will pack all the kids' stuff and finish mine.
Our flight on Friday isn't until 4pm so no need to get up early. I can pack all the toiletries that morning.
Last, but not lease, pack all the FE gifts. They turned out to weigh a heck of a lot more than I expected.
And get this.....DH just came up to me and asks if me and the kids have extra room in our luggage for his stuff. :lmao: The nerve  I told him no mooching off our luggage.

Not with current airline weight restrictions. My family could easily have gotten by with three suitcases, but we took five to keep everything below 50 pounds.

2 DAYS TO GO!!!!!
Well, today is our 2nd sea day on the ship. I have a feeling it will be a very late morning for us. Probably hit Topsiders just as its closing.
I will most likely do one of the bingo sessions. I love playing bingo on DCL but its getting super expensive. I'm not a big fan of those electronic bots. I think half the thrill is searching the cards for the numbers.
I forgot to ask who wants to hang out at Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay? Both kids are doing the teen wild side in the morning so I don't have to be at the family beach. I plan on doing some serious sun bathing at Castaway Cay with a good book in one hand and a fancy drink in the other.
As for today in real life......I have to run to the eye doctor's office and pick up a new supply of contact lenses. Was down to my last pair. Once I get back then I finish the packing.
Oh yes, have to remind DH to print out our boarding passes.

What is the teen wild side at Castaway Cay?
Its a teens-only excursion at Castaway Cay. They go bike riding, kayaking and I think hiking. The really cool thing is they get to go to a restricted section of CC.
The teens meet in the morning and they are finished around lunchtime.
The "wild side" is a bit misleading. Its really a multi-activity excursion just for the teens.
Maybe they get to see a "wild side" of CC.
Bottom line....its a great way to get rid of your teens in the morning so you can enjoy Serenity Bay. :thumbsup2

We're leaving for PHL around 8:30 tomorrow, so this will be my last post. It's been a busy day, but everything is packed (well, except for those last minute toiletries), boarding passes are printed, and I'm about to head up to bed.
Hope I can sleep, I'm kind of hyped up :hyper:
Everybody who hasn't left yet, safe travels.

For those of you coming to FL tomorrow or Saturday, the weather is great! It's uncomfortably hot for me - in the upper 80s or low 90s with high humidity - but coming from the Pacific Northwest it sure is nice to wake up to sunny mornings!
This is my goodbye number two - bright and early tomorrow we leave Orlando for the Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach, then I'll see you all onboard!
I don't have anything with the RHCC logo, so in the terminal look for a fat guy with a t-shirt from Linuxfest Northwest - it has the Linux mascot Tux the penguin on top of a totem pole.
:banana:do i get to switch the lights out...doI? do I ? I switched them on...well fot this thread anyway....assuming my DHs identnity obv:lmao:
well...we head off to orlando today (Thank heavens)....we have had a hectic 48 hours in NY...Jack Bauer has nothing on us....:rotfl:..and i will be sooooooooooo glad to hit Orlando later this evening!
managed to resist the sales here in the big apple,,,just bought a few tacky touristy bits...it just has to be done!
Glad you are all ok...and prepared.ing...had to help my DB buy a tie in Macys...almost 2 years to prepare and he hadnt packed a tie..he doesnt 'do' ties...heaven help us! He never sorted out his kilt either, which i ama little disappointed about, but his middle name is Apathy, so i shouldnt have expected any less!:headache:
well...need to re-pack:rolleyes1...seems my great plan for having a 'NY' suitcase went a little arye, and i find that I am short of knickers...just me mind....maybe all those gusset chewing dogs have been at 'em!:scared1:
Had to open one of the cruise cases...not what i had planned at all...hey ho. Best laid plans etc etc
KC- we will be on Serenity oo on CC day, equally 'active' ...taking my e-reader so i dont even have to turn a page:woohoo: both my little darlings will be wild siding too...and last time we cruised the eldest never came near us even after the excursion finished, far too much fun to be had with her new found friends!
Booze- we will be stopping off on the journry from MCO to the port...need a few bits (dont ask!!)...and maybe a few bottles too. Alcohol is a lot chaper over here ( in the off-licences anyway!) than at home ...although to be fair its not too bad there either, so it all looks like a bargain to us!
Erik- BLENDED SCOTCH....shame on you...:confused3...and here is me thinking we would get on!
right gtg...still got a few hours to nail NY...really need a holiday now!
maybe i will check in later....think the wifi is free in the Hyatt..
if not ...welll....its been a pleasure posting with you

Wahoo we are in Orlando safe and sound. Time to hit the surf shop and then the waves.
Right, I was in two minds about the reply, one being about asking you to teach me, however I will go with the second. I am bringing blended to avoid losing it after a week. Single malt is a thing of beauty and should be enjoyed like courting a complex lady. Thus the Ballentines for me. When I am home I will suffer through a MacAllen or Oban. And much pleasure comes from visiting Glen Morangie. I would go to great lengths to find more Port Ellen. So please don't write off our friendship, just understand we went to 25 cent beer night in this bottle.

Yes, yes would work fine, or maybe some of Rush's the trees or 2112 intro.

I hate packing. I always have the awful suspicion I'm forgetting something even though I have very detailed packing lists. :headache: At least for this itinerary if you've forgotten something you can get off the boat in Key West and find a store.
Today on the cruise is Castaway Cay. My kids never tire of that playground in the water at the family beach.

Were you by the pool tonight? The four of us were there from 8p - 10p. We were lounging between the guitar man and the waterfall.
Lights-out...?!?! Over? Did you say over? Nothing is over until we decide it is. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell-no, and it ain't over now. Who's with me?

Returned home a few hours ago to lots of rain here in Philly. Even the weather is sad that our fantastic cruise had to come to an end! I wanted to make sure to stop by here tonight to say a BIG "thank you" to all the friends we made on our honeymoon. It was such fun meeting many of you, and Colin and I were thrilled by the many well-wishes we got all week long. We had an absolute blast and are already plotting when Disney Cruise #2 will happen. (Hitting up the Disney Dream in 2011 might be awesome...but a 4-night cruise would be WAY too short...) Castaway Club, here we come ;)

I promised a few of you that I would post a link to photos from our wedding. Here's the photo-sharing website we set up for all our family and friends:
http://s960.photobucket.com/albums/ae88/heathercolinwedding/
You can also find some VIDEOS from our wedding if you search "Heather and Colin wedding" on YouTube. Seven short videos from our ceremony should come up, as well as an episode of our friend's video blog. (He is spending a year abroad in London and played piano during our ceremony. He created the vlog to chronicle his experiences overseas, but devoted an episode to the wedding, too. In general he's a pretty entertaining guy ;) )
Enjoy! I know it won't beat seeing Colin and me frolicking about the Magic in our bride and groom Mickey ears...but hopefully those will still keep you occupied for a while.

Great pictures, Heather. It looks like you had a wonderful wedding, and you two looked really happy together when I saw you. I wanted to stop at your table and say hi during our brunch at Palo, but I didn't want to intrude.
For some reason Michelle insisted we get up at 5 AM that last day. So, after watching the space shuttle launch, I got less than five hours of sleep that night. Then we didn't get our luggage at the Seattle airport until about 9:30 PM PDT, and due to road construction we didn't get home until almost midnight. Yesterday was a 22.5 hour day for me!
I am glad I was able to meet most of you, and I apologise for being so poor with your names :)
This was the best vacation of my life and I booked another one before debarking. When 2011 dates are announced I am hoping the schedule works for the Panama Canal repo. If not, I will either do the Eastern Caribbean or Mexico.
The best part getting home - my wife had been making snide comments about how much I was eating and how much weight I was gaining all week. It's her strange idea of how to encourage me to cut back. When we got home we found she had gained seven pounds! But I LOST THREE POUNDS! Ha!
I hope to meet you all on a future Disney cruise - I am officially hooked!

We, too, came home to overcast and dreary weather. In fact, our flight was delayed because of the weather in NJ.
But we still had some of that DCL pixie dust on us because when we got to our gate we found out we had been upgraded to first class on our flight. :cool1:
It was only a 2 hour flight and I slept the entire way but hey, it was nice to snooze in a big seat. :thumbsup2
This was our 9th cruise in 8 years and this was the best one ever!!!! A great big wonderful thank you to everyone in this group for making this a truly magical cruise. To watch the shuttle launch on the final night was the perfect way to end an amazing experience.
We had so many incredible experiences during our seven days together. We were so lucky that we didn't get affected by the hurricanes and we had great weather throughout the week. The entertainment was amazing (Ron Pearson was fantastic) and the CMs were terrific.
But the real magic was going anywhere on the ship and running into all you fellow red hot chili cruisers. It made the ship feel like home.
Back to reality  now......my house looks like a disaster area. The laundry is all washed but piled all over the place. I still have to wash all the snorkeling gear. Suitcases are everywhere. And the kids' fall sports start bright and early on Monday.
And what's this awful nonsense about having to put away dirty dishes???? Huh? We did takeout both Saturday and Sunday night. Monday night I will be forced to start cooking again. :headache:
I miss the Magic and I miss all of you :grouphug: Hope you all make it back home safely.

UGH...back to reality!!! I think I can see my floor in the laundry room. Now I just have to put it all away. Trevor has jr high orientation today and I start school on Wednesday (teacher day). We all start on September 8th. This is going to be a busy week with soccer practice and all the school open houses.
I had my kids pass out our fish extender gifts and somehow they came back with a few because they didn't see a FE, so I don't know if some had room changes that I missed or we made a big boo-boo. Anyhow, these are the staterooms we missed....2645, 2060, 8548, 7508. If you PM me your address, I can see them in the mail. Sorry about the miss-up...Tammi
Hi all.
Well, coming home sucks, but we knew it had to happen.
Huge apologies for missing most of you over the past week - we never made it to either the Saturday or Monday meets, due to various scheduling clashes and/or everyone scattering to the four corners of the ship, but your FE gifts were all warmly received. What fun!
Suffice to say, we had an utterly amazing time. The kids all agree that it was the best holiday/vacation they've ever had, and we're now doing the sums to see if we can afford another next summer. Being self-employed we might not know until closer the time... but we're looking at taking one of the Mediterranean cruises. Fingers crossed.
Once again - thanks for all your gifts. They really helped to make the cruise!

Totally agree!!!! You all are so creative. This is the first cruise where we've done the FE exchange. It was so neat to come back to the stateroom and see something in our bag.
I talked to some of the CMs about it and they said they enjoy seeing all the FE bags and all the door signs.
Funny story with us.....our flight to Orlando was delayed 6 hours and I had packed all the FE gifts in our checked luggage. Our plane was at the gate the entire time and I was getting more and more worried that the FE gifts would be ruined with the plane sitting on the tarmac for 6 hours in the heat.
Fortunately everything turned out alright in the end.

We had even worse luck, as I'm sure some of your can tell. Colin and I were both excited about our FE idea - we're the ones who gave out Tastykakes! - but Colin accidentally let the DCL people take our carry-on bags (which contained said Tastykakes) along with our checked luggage. Needless to say, things got a little squishy! I had been SO careful with them all through our trip down to Orlando and was majorly disappointed that our cream-filled yummies became so difficult to eat. Hopefully you all still enjoyed your little taste of Philadelphia anyway :)

Am wondering if anybody by chance ran into this problem. I had gotten a photo package and the last night I bought the binders with extra pics on the side. We opened them and they are STUCK together!!!! Then I call Shutters and they say they can send me some more but we have to pay for them because inadvertantly I exposed them to humidity . Why didn't they put a sheet or something in that. Damn I am so pissed!!!! Yes, back to reality I have to go do some laundry. I miss you all and yes wish we were all back there. We will not be able to go on another cruise for 2 years but will book it as soon as possible (and after I get a job) Hope all are doing well, although I am feeling like this:mad:

You know, I was wondering how Disney managed to pull that one off!
The kids are back at school, we're back at work (so that we can pay for our next vacation :thumbsup2), and the weather here is strangely fallish (but lovely).
It was our pleasure to meet everyone that we did, and sorry that we didn't get to meet everybody!
After our first Disney cruise, we felt we would do it again. After this one, we are definitely doing it again! Just have to figure out when. Next year is a no go, and my sister just claimed 2011 for a family trip to WDW (Grammy's and PopPops will unfortunely not go on of cruise), so it is looking like 2012 at the soonest :sad2:. Tastykakes were yummy - we saved our until we got home so no worries that it was a tad thinner.
I had a similar experience coming home when I let our car driver put my carryon luggage in the back - he just picked up the case and tossed it on top of the other luggage :scared1: Good thing I didn't have anything breakable in that case.
so it is looking like 2012 at the soonest :sad2:. Well, at least we'll have four ships to choose from!
We've got a 4-night Wonder cruise booked for next summer but not sure about 2011. DCL seems intent on taking the Magic elsewhere for the summers and we've done Nassau enough times that we don't need to go back. So we might take a break from DCL in 2011.
Yes, having 4 ships to choose from in 2012 will be very interesting.
Man, its been downright chilly yesterday and today. Feels more like the end of September rather than the beginning.
I've been told the weather while we were away was just dreary (ha!). I can tell because I'm still waiting for the tomatoes on my tomato plants to turn red.

Thank you for the FE gifts, so good to come back and find a little something waiting. Especially liked the empty bottle idea, I think Matts fave gift was the Hairy Horace toy, although the squishy cake went down well even with all that food onboard.
KC & Roger thank you for our invite, it was great to see the suite, hope you got the chocolate squares home without melting.

No more plans for us cruising with Magic in Europe next year. Will probably wait for new ships and new itineries now. I think next August will be 25 nights at WDW unless we do a split stay, another consideration is flying into NYC and driving down, calling to see friends in NC.

Hi everyone,
I just got in last night and this morning when I woke up I realized I am now the stateroom attendant, dining room server and assistant! It was a rude awakening.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting everyone in the Walt suite. I was chatting with the ship's hotel director and remarked about the wonderful furnishings in the room - particularly all the little "knick knacks" on the shelves. He said that was all deliberately picked out by the Disney Imagineers - all something that either Walt would have used himself or represented his interests.
Really interesting stuff - wish I had known that before the party so we could all look at it together.
Yes, the chocolates were wonderful. I am a confirmed choco-holic. The box made it safely home but alas was demolished within 24 hours.

DD has a head cold.
We went through the same thing the last time we were on the Magic. I remember a lot in our DIS group came home and caught some kind of virus.
I don't think it was anything we caught onboard or at any of the port stops. I think its more feeling exhausted and run down and more susceptible to viruses.

Has anyone gotten sick since you've been home? I definitely was feeling a bit under the weather last week - very tired. Felt like I was fighting something beyond post cruise depression.
The day we were in Cozumel I developed a sore throat - presumably from a little postnasal drip. I assumed it was from the shock between the warm humid outside air and the dry air-conditioned interior air. The day we got back my wife was starting to get sick - a bit of a head cold, and my daughter started feeling sick on Sunday. Monday she was having cramps and vomiting - symptoms we assumed were a combination of 'that time of month' and being a bit more sick. She stayed the same through Wednesday but was a lot worse Thursday so we took her to the doctor. That night they operated on a burst appendix and, as of today, we are hoping she'll be able to leave the hospital next weekend.
So two of us, maybe three, got sick at the end of the trip.
"HOPE TRUST AND PIXIE DUST" I hope thats it, my seven year old knows it better then me.
I believe it is "Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust." I have the CDs of several musicals in my collection; I wish I could get CDs for Twice Charmed and Disney Dreams.

Just wanted to pop in and say thank you so much for all of the wonderful FE gifts and for all of the smiling faces all over the ship! It was really nice to meet all of you.
KC and Roger, thank you so much for hosting such a nice get together. Your suite was so beautiful, I hope you continued to really enjoy it all week.
I'm sorry to hear of all those sick after the cruise. We actually got it on board. I started with a fever, sore throat and cough on Tuesday, Jack got it on Thursday and Ryan was so sick on Friday, I thought we were going to have to airlift him off of the ship. I've never seen him that sick and his fever that out of control. Jack and I both felt like we were run over by a truck all of last week and all 3 of us are still coughing. My friend who is a pediatric nurse swears we had H1N1. When I saw the ship's doctor on Wednesday, he told me to use my inhaler, take tylenol and drink a lot of rum to kill the germs!!! :scared1: We had a beautiful week, non the less.
How lucky were we with the weather and the Tropical systems?!!
I'm not sure when our next Disney cruise will be. We priced Europe next summer and it was really out of control!!! I think we'll be doing a land vacation next year. Remember Friday's the day for the announcement of the new itineraries!! I'm hoping for Alaska!!
Take Care!!

I missed the sail away party and the pirate party (naps/bedtimes for my 2 boys) so I will definately need to go again soon to see what I missed. We will be aiming for sometime in 2011. We will be in Disney World the first week in Jan 2010!! So excited for that. We didn't really meet any fellow cruisers aside from the lovely family in the Walt suite (that was a highlight of my trip). It was a lot of work juggling naps, activities, meals, and shows with a 1 and 3 year old, but I wouldn't change it for anything. It was the BEST. I want to go back now. My son lost his "chip" figurine (from Beauty and the Beast) somewhere in our stateroom and keeps asking to go back and get it. I want to say YES!! Ok, signing off, and I hope everyone gets many more Disney cruises in their future.

Hi all,
I did see a lot of people coughing and sneezing on board the August 29th cruise, including the crew.
We all did get sick here too, dh on the way home boarding the plane, dd missed the first day of school and I had to not think about it being sick and take care of them. I started not feeling so great mid week on my last cruise. Coughing an congestion. DD has the fever and vomiting. It is like a little souveneir, I guess. :headache:
We now have five cruises with the Wonder planned for next year. (August)Yes, I will be cruising with you KC!! Third year in a row! I just hope we are just as lucky with the weather next August as we were this August. We loved coming up to see you in your suite. That was so nice of you to open your doors to us and have goodies for everyone!
I have a few cruises planned for Feb, March, June and July, with another cruise line. I am wishing I were spending it on Disney instead.
Hope everyone is feeling better!!

Viewed the photos. You guys look so happy. Heather you were stunning
How are you feeling? Did you ever get to the doctor and find out what was happening to you? I felt so bad for you that last night. There definitely was something strange going around on the ship those last days and the following week it seemed like everyone had something.
When I saw you that night I was looking for my dd and later on found out that she was in the movie theatre with your son. That is why I couldn't find her in all the usual places.
Hope you book for next August, it would be nice to see everyone back on board again!!

Hi Dawn,
No I did not go to doctor. I was feeling better by Sunday however it went through the whole family. Body aches, temp, coughing (I was the only one who vomited) I wish we could go cruising again soon, but alas we have to wait until 2011. Maybe we can catch you the following August! Kyle won his first soccer game today, assisted on two goals, he was great. Well hopefully will hear from everyone soon. Christi, Kyle e mailed Matt. Did he get it?

Hi all,
I wanted to report Kirstin finally came home from the hospital today. She is doing a lot better now, and is back to her normal self - except that she is a bit slower than usual.
Unfortunately I don't think there is any way I could take another cruise next year, but if I find another job before medical and COBRA bills put me too deep in the hole I plan to be on either the LA to Vancouver repo or the 8/23/11 Alaska cruise. Maybe I'll see some of you in my part of the world :)

Brian,
We are looking at the 8/23 cruise, too.

Glad you felt better quickly. That was still a horrible ordeal to have to go through on a cruise!
Hooray for Kyle!!!!

Poor Kirstin, I am happy to hear she is home from the hospital and back to being almost herself again. She will get there.
We don't have anything planned on the West coast as of yet, but the wheels in my head are always turning and ya never know. Hopefully one day we will be on the same thread again. That is always fun!
Good luck to you.
Nice to have met you.

:scared1: How awful to get sick while on the cruise. I feel so bad for you. That's funny that the ship's doctor saying to drink a lot of rum. On one of our earliest cruises DD got stung by a jellyfish on CC and we went to the first aid building. The doctor there told us that if you are ever without anti-bacterial cream to just use human urine (ie pee directly on your skin).

Awwww......glad you could make it. I don't know how people cruise with such young children. My kids were 5 & 7 when we first cruised and they were asleep every afternoon and all of us were asleep by 10pm. This was the first cruise that I've ever been able to stay out past 10pm and enjoy all the adults shows and dancing.
Wow...I had no idea how many of us got sick either on the cruise or after. I guess misery loves company. We're all finally better. DD was at the doctor on Friday for a skin rash that started right before we cruised and all the salt water in the Caribbean made worse. You would think salt water would make a skin rash better but it did the reverse and she ended up with a skin fungus. Once we got home it started quickly spreading so I took her to the doc. The rash is almost gone now.

Well long time no post – Glad everyone made it back safely! I figured I’ld drop by the boards today to check out the pricing/info that all the gold &platinum CCers have been posting about the 2011 cruises. We booked a dummy res. while on board that we could transfer once the 2011 prices came out. Unless DW tries to convince the rest of her family to cruise with us, we are shooting for an early November 2011 Eastern on the Magic. Because we don’t have kids, we figured we would give an off-season cruise a try – plus both our birthdays are in early November:cake: Anybody have experience sailing in November? We Hopefully with the entire hubbub over the new ship & new itineraries, prices for the traditional Caribbean itineraries will stay reasonable.
I also wanted to make sure we thanked the mystery DISer :thanks:that made the door decorations for our cruise!!!! Hopefully we got to meet you, & if not hopefully we can sail together again sometime in the future!

Hi Bryan
We didn't book anything onboard. No idea when we will get to sail Disney again. Even though we have done 5 cruises and could have booked today there is nothing suitable for us.
We want to do Alaska(almost did it this May) but Tuesday sailing is no good for us with Matt at school, His school only gets 1 week off in spring so Tues sailing means too many days out of school. Only other option is August but other factors against that.
So looking like HAL or RCCL instead. They sail Saturdays from Seattle(also easier airport for us than Vancouver)

I knew I had forgotten something! Thanks to whomever decorated our door as well! I enjoyed finding the magnets up there, and my daughter really loved having them!
I also rebooked dummy dates onboard, and I am going to discuss a firm plan with family this week, since I can't book until Monday.
What would work best for us, assuming we don't move, is the Aug 23 2011 Alaskan cruise. But my first choice is the northbound repo. No Disney ship has ever been to those ports before and I recall Disney had a special celebration the first time the Magic visited Barcelona. Hopefully there will be something special in Vancouver.
Of course, regardless of what the family decides is first choice, booking depends on cost and me finding another job. I did find an IT job at WDW - maybe I'll hear back from them!
