I ask about waitlisting since we are going to Vero Beach in July....and we have a two bed. the first night we are there and then the second night we have two studios (waitlisted for a two bedroom) and then we go back to a two bedroom the rest of our stay. So kind of a pain..................

Have you or Denise ever have to get waitlisted for a trip?? If so did it come through????
I have waitlisted for a few nights a BCV in the past when I added on days under 7 mos. - I have always recd what I waitlisted for. I usually don't go during high demand times so I think that helps.
When we requested Williamsburg it was for during the summer which is busier, I called about 12 mos out and gave them 6 weeks in the summer to pick from - example - Last 3 weeks of June - First 3 weeks July - I requested a specific resort. They called me back about 3 mos. later and said they had the 2 week of June available and I took that.
I think Hawaii will be busy, but it will depend on how fast the units sell.
In July Air Tran was having a great deal - $110 RT, and I had my annual pass until Sept 1 - so DD and I decided to take a quick weekend trip to WDW - I called about 8 days ahead and was able to get BWV Studio no problem.

We definately wanted to go to Williamsburg in a couple years, and we want to do some other places around the country(my Dh's and my goal- to see all 50 states), so that will help us reach our goal.

Oh my gosh that must have been "weird." I know a ton of people reserved on the cruise. But DH was good and as I got the kids ready he went to the pool and plunked himself down so I would have a chair. SO he kind of was reserving it for me but he was sitting in it till I got there...
I was also usually dispatched to go hang by the pool, too. We're a family a five, but really only need/use two chairs anyway. We usually get by with just one, too!

I forgot to mention, the trades were extremely easy and in Williamsburg we traded for a week at the Marriot Manor Club (i think that was the name) it was a 1 bedroom very nice - kids activities etc.

We have traded for the Marriott Manor Club, 2 BDRM, for this summer. Good to hear about the kids' activities. Anything else about the resort - good or bad?

I'd give it him early so you can have the real thing for your anniversary... :) Are you having anything engraved inside?
I bought DH and myself new matching wedding rings for our anniversary (to my surprise he'd already had a beautiful new engagement ring made for me :cloud9: ) but he managed to lose his shortly after we returned from our cruise!!! I was more than a little mad ;) but realised that the style hadn't quite worked on his finger. So, when I re-ordered, I changed the fit (as well as having a message engraved inside)... It still matches mine but isn't as chunky. I didn't tell him what I'd done and gave it him for Christmas - he was very happy... :lovestruc
THat is so sweet!!! No, I"m not getting anything engraved. His original ring was. This is his third ring and he rarely ever wears one anyway. I got it more for him having one to wear when he does want to wear one, rather than wearing the one he has that cuts off the blood flow to his finger. :rotfl2:

Ed-
This will make you feel better.........I don't have the time OR the cash! :rotfl: That's why we only go on a big vacation every other year. The rest of the time might be a weekend driving trip here and there. But we are happy to be able to do that because we know so many people who can't even afford that. We got alot of envious responses when people found out we were going on DCL. But what they didn't realize was that was 2 years of saving, and we skipped vacation the prior year. It will be exactly the same for our 2009 cruise. We are just darn happy to even be able to go!!

Congrats, Denise on booking with Carol. She emailed me this morning and said we could take four more cabins into our group. THe rate may even go down more if we get them then we will get the group ammenities. If anyone is intrested Ed, Abby, myself, and Denise are all booked with a GREAT TA who is offering us a group rate and group ammenities while onboard. We got AWESOME OBC and we are getting either a Palo's Brunch, or a welcome cocktail reception, and stateroom gifts.............
15 INCHES??!!:scared1: In my recent memory the most snow we got was 18 inches in 2004, and that broke our previous record of 15 inches in 1978!! I feel sorry for you!

I was afraid of it getting broken etc so I ended up buying the Best Buy Warranty, I normally don't but this one will cover sand etc - just about anything for 4yrs. The last big camera I had my DD knocked it off the table at a wedding reception and broke it.
I bought the Best Buy warranty too, which I never do either! But I spent too much money on that thing for it to get broken or quit working within a few years after buying it!

For an Interval International trade such as Williamsburg you can start a search up to 2 years prior to when you want to travel. Getting a match depends on whether an owner of the timeshare you want to trade to has deposited their time/week into the system. I've tried to trade in the past and was not successful; however, our dates weren't very flexible either. We also didn't deposit our week and then wait for a match - which is an option. This time I was prepared with a ton of dates and a choice of about 4 resorts. We got lucky - got our 1st choice of weeks and 1st choice on the resort.
Best advice - be flexible, especially during peak travel times.

We have traded for the Marriott Manor Club, 2 BDRM, for this summer. Good to hear about the kids' activities. Anything else about the resort - good or bad?
We really enjoyed just about everything there, its a wooded area with lots of places to take walks, there is shuffle board, Tennis and a nice Pool. They have a Kids club area that has ice cream socials etc.
In the main building they will have a movie/pizza night, make sure you get the activity schedule - similiar to what you would find on the ship just not as much detail.
The only negatives about the resort was - the bed was very firm although I heard from our Marriott Guide that they have replaced all of the mattresses there, not sure it true.
We also went to Busch Gardens - decent - of course can't compare to WDW.
We went to lunch at one of the old colonial restr. which was alot of fun - I think it was called Chownings(made resrv ahead of time). If you like Barbecue there is a great Barbecue Restr - Pierce's - it was very good. My DH thought it was the best place we ate at. For Breakfast we tried Old Chichahony (sp) its on Jamestown Rd and we stopped there on the way to Jamestown Settlement.
There is also an amusement/minature golf place near there that was fun for an evening.
That's what I can remember, I know I used tripadvisor.com to get some of the restr recommendations etc.

DW and I went a long time ago before we had kids. We've been "waiting" for our kids to get older before returning because, in our opinion, most of the historical sites are for older kids. We will mix it up and spend time at Water Country USA & Busch Gardens so they're not totally bored - though the boys like museums and history (we did a ton of museums in DC last summer). Plus the resort will have activities and a pool to keep everyone happy.

Morning everyone, well I left work around 12:40am. I have to be at work at 9am, so a little tired this morning. I am a late person, sometimes stay up until 12-1am during the week, I don't require a lot of sleep. But, we were just sitting there, because we are just "pions"(sp) so all of our management did everything, not sure why we were here. Just bored, and this morning - guess what it's not working.:scared1:

All this talk of Williamsburg is making me want to go! That's definitely a place we'll have to go to at some point. Is it better if the kids are older or are there lots of things to keep their interest?
I think it would depend on the kids, my kids were 17 and 9 and had a great time, but I think with all of the different things to do in the area you would have fun at any age.

Have you ever been to HH???
Kristin,
HH is great, we went there for Spring Break a couple of years ago the weather was really nice 70's and the crowds were pretty low since summer is their busy time.
The resort is really nice, not right on the beach but it is on a bay so you can Kayak(we did this and had a blast), ride bikes, and swim. They have individual buildings that are nestled in trees, with walking paths through out. They also have a really nice kids program - movies, sing along camp fire etc. It is also right next to Shelter Cove (i think), there you can find shops, and restr all within walking distance. Disney has a Beach House w/ a pool, arcade and quick svc restr. right on the beach that is really nice and a shuttle that will take you back and forth.

HH is very nice - laid back, too. The feature pool is much more popular (and bigger) than the pool at the Beach House. You are right about the kids activities (though not as big as Vero). Hilton Head is an excellent destination as well - lots of tennis and golf opportunities. We also enjoy biking all over the island as well when we are there.
Important note is that there is no restaurant on site. There is limited counter service at the resort and the Beach House for breakfast and lunch. They have two dinner events in the summer - BBQ and a Shrimp Boil. Both are pretty good - though very overpriced. Hilton Head has a ton of excellent restaurants (some offer DVC discounts, too). A couple are within walking distance in Shelter Cove, but most have to be driven to. We tend to utilize the kitchen facilities most often here.

They have continued to add locations since we first bought back in 1996. Right now there is HH, Vero, and WDW (Old Key West, Boardwalk, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge Villas, Saratoga Springs). Animal Kingdom Villas are under construction (some are open) and they have announced future DVC properties in Hawaii and California. Other options include trading out to other properties (WDW, DL, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong); DCL; Adventures by Disney; various non-Disney resorts/hotels; and other timeshares (worldwide).

I am hoping that the Contemporary will be announced soon. We took a private Wishes Fireworks cruise while we were there in September and the man driving the boat told us that was true about DVC being built there..................

Sounds really really nice I had a ressie there for cash last summer and cancelled it when I could not get decent flights down there... I think they recommend that you fly into Savannah Georgia........
Savannah is closest airport (HHI Airport is small, commuter type thing), but I have never seen a reasonable fare from up here. We usually fly into Myrtle Beach and drive a couple of hours or just drive the whole way down.

We had a soft cover book last year. Same type as the new one.
Years ago we had a great hard-cover, 3-ring binder. Still have it, too - it looks all beat up and nasty! The craziness with that is that DVC sent update pages throughout the year and you had to go in and replace pages in your binder.

They make out pretty good when you trade out, too. That week or whatever gets rented out - we've all seen the cash prices for DVC accommodations!
You're right though - they love to keep everyone on property (e.g. DDP). DVC members are a captive audience as well. Just check your resort invoices! I've read where people go and stay at DVC resorts and have a zero balance or something else absurdly low. I guess in theory that's possible, but not for us.

Yup got the magnet.
For the cruises we've been on, all but one have been cash. They used to run DCL points "specials" during September in the past, but I haven't seen that in awhile. The first DVC Member Cruise we used points. This was the member cruise that they didn't charter the whole ship. I guess they were testing the waters so to speak. It was billed as the DVC 10th Anniversary Cruise. It was a mix of DVCers and regular cruisers - though DVC dominated the ship. We have a great picture of a giant "10" the members formed on the beach at CC!
Anyway.... the points for that cruise were discounted and it was in April (instead of the recent DVC Member Cruises were are like the 1st week of school).

I would lean toward the Palo Brunch, I did a group brunch on our last cruise and it was wonderful. So was dinner, but Brunch was better.
That Palo brunch sounds great! We didn't do that on our last cruise.

We did not either.. Not sure I will get to do it. My kids really did not like going to the kids clubs.. They liked being with us on the cruise. Which is fine by us. Since it is vacation. So not sure I could convince them to go to the club or not this time. But they are older now this time............

A man had been drinking at the bar for hours when he mentioned something about his girlfriend being out in the car. The bartender, concerned because it was so cold, went to check on her. When he looked inside the car, he saw the man's friend, Dave, and his girlfriend kissing one another. The bartender shook his head and walked back inside.
He told the drunk that he thought it might be a good idea to check on his girlfriend. The fellow staggered outside to the car, saw his buddy and his girlfriend kissing, then walked back into the bar laughing.
"What's so funny?" the bartender asked.
"That stupid Dave!" the fellow chortled, "He's so drunk, he thinks he's me!"

It might depend if they make friends with some of the kids in the clubs before hand. On our first cruise Caitlin had met some of the kids before hand and we couldn;t get her out of the clubs

Very True. They were only four last time in OCT. they will be sic in a half. Plus, the little girl they did meet really wanted to just swim so we sat and had drinks by the pool while they swam...........
We actually had brought some alcohol with us last time.........................

Computer users are divided into three types:
Novice, Intermediate and Expert.
Novice Users - People who are afraid that simply pressing a key might break their computer.
Intermediate Users - People who don't know how to fix their computer after they've just pressed a key that broke it.
Expert Users - People who press the keys that break other people's computers.
