I just found this thread! We will be on your cruise. It is me, DH and 4 boys ( will be 16, 14,13,11). We were going to be on the NYE cruise this year, but we postponed it a year so we could go to Disneyland this summer. It will be our first 7 night cruise and we are very excited. I can't believe we have to wait 22 more months!

We're in!

We just did the Christmas Magic cruise - it was my in-laws first DCL and our 4th - and they enjoyed it so much that they booked NY 2009 for a full family cruise with all of their three children's families, including us again! My parents have been a few times and have enjoyed it, but I was worried about my in-laws with Disney, but they are now big fans.

So - we have 4 staterooms booked and a total of 15 of us cruising.

I'm planning on leaving VA on Christmas afternoon to fly to FL and will likely stay at the Hyatt the night before. We've done that before and it was a piece of cake to get to the port. I figure that way we have Christmas am at home with our two kids - who will be 10 and 6 at the time - and then head south.

Just booked this weekend-we'll be there too! It will be me and DH and DS who will be 8 at the time. This will be our first cruise ever-we are sooo excited. I don't know how I'll be able to wait the 21 months still to go. Looking at all of the pictures and info makes me want to go now!

Hi everyone. I have 2 DS (lots of boys on this trip so far!) who will be 15 and 17 at the time of the cruise. We did an "Eastern" in November '07, and to my surprise (and relief) my boys both had a great time. Unfortunately, they didn't mention that they wanted to go on another DCL cruise until AFTER we left the ship (so no on-board booking discount for us!!). Grrr. At any rate, I just wanted to say hello; it makes the cruise seem more of a reality somehow......! So long to wait. Sigh. :goodvibes

We're down to under 21 months! Ya Hoo :cool1: :cool1: It will be here before we all realize it. :rotfl2:

It does appear to be boy heavy, if our limited cruise meet numbers are any indication.

Is that a good thing, or a bad thing? :confused3 Our 2x DS's love to cruise. Their favorite things to do are: foosball, playing chess in Diversions, catching the games in Diversions, and Not to mention the kids clubs with all the events!

okay, so I am thinking about booking the nye cruise. Is the weather and water warm enought in january to enjoy? The water was freezing in march, I'm a little nervous. My ds will be 11 almost 12 by that time.... i think.....yeah thats right 12. We would also be cruising minus DH. This also makes us nervous. Ya know preteen boy and mom-could be deadly for one of us!!!!

Hi momdislover I hope you decide to join us! Our DS's had such a great time together on our last cruise.

Water temp in December? :confused3 No idea. Although DW & I cruised just before x-mas several years ago, and I don't think there was a great amount of difference between then and March (The water is cold?) You're from the Northern U.S. like we are. Cold is when there is ice floating in the water. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I thought the water was great, once in and climitized. The snorkeling was absolutely fantastic!

I admire your courage. There is no way on this earth that I would allow DW to take off with the kids and cruise without me! :scared1: Now, if it was the other way around and we left her home? Hmmmmmm. :scratchin :laundy: :woohoo:

P.S. I hope she doesn't readt this? :flower3:

Wow, I didn't realize there would be a thread this far out. We booked about a month ago. DH and I were casually chatting about how fun it would be to get away the week between Christmas and New Year's. Out of curiosity, he looked up the dates for 2009 and then we started talking about what ages the kids will be at that time. (DS will be 11 and DD will have just turned 9 on Dec. 24th) So, we decided that since it would be our son's last chance to go to the clubs we would go for it. We can't wait! We aren't telling the kids. On Christmas they are just going to get lots of vacation related gifts and the last thing they will open will be something I will make up telling them we are going on the cruise the next day! :yay: And DD will get to celebrate her birthday onboard. We celebrated our son's b/day last time. (His was the week after we got home.) We've only been on one other. We did the land/sea in August 2006. So we are just dying to go again. The kids talk about it all the time. It is going to be so great! I just wish it wasn't so far away.

We are solid for this one also...

As far as telling the kids, we never tell our son. Just got back last night from WDW & DCL and our son didn't know until we were driving to the airport and he asked where we were going.. Ofcourse he is only 8 1/2 probaly get alot tougher over the next few cruises..

We didn't have the nerve to book over Christmas again... I think our parents wer getting a bit tiffed... So we picked the day after Christmas LOL..

Wednesday night while I was picking my DS7 up for the last time  from the Oceaners club (he will be 8 next Sunday so he will move up the the lab) and we went to the room and on the bed was a reservation for this cruise!!!! :worship: DH.
We are very excited even though it is a long time away. I just mentioned to him it would be cool to spend New Year's on the cruise since we really don't do anything for NYE and the kids are off, I am off, it is after Christmas.
BTW, if they still do the cooking class in Cozumel, I highly recommend it, we did it in November and it was awesome!!

Hi Trishde!
Well it's been kinda lonely here over the past few months, but things seem to be picking up. (We booked in April) So welcome!:welcome: We are really excited too. How cool that your hubby just did it like that! My husband and I were also discussing how fun it would be to do a NYE cruise, and just for giggles, he looked into. Next thing we knew we were booked! We have only been on one other cruise and that was land/sea back in Aug. 2006. We aren't telling the kids until Christmas morning 2009. Can you imagine keeping a secret that long?? Where in NJ are you? I grew up in NJ and my parents live in Mt. Laurel. I'm just outside Philly now.

OK, to those folks with the 3,000 Disney trips between now and the cruise, I am so jealous!! If we had our way, we would get to Disney and DCL every year, but alas, it is not to be. Welcome aboard everyone!

Sorry we haven't been around much lately. This funny thing called "work" has kept me distracted. I have to pay for this Disney obsession of ours somehow? :rolleyes1

Plus we're finally getting ready for our Mexican Riviera cruise :thumbsup2 which was booked over a year and a half ago. The excitement in this house is building daily. :cool1:

Rest assured, once this one is over, you'll hear more from me. After all, I have nothing else now booked until this cruise next year. What am I going to do with myself? :rotfl2:

Back again!
Hobbitmamma- I live in Howell, grew up in
Wall & my husband grew up in Neptune.

I have tried to search the boards but couldn't find anything but DH was wondering about wearing a tux on New Year's. He really doesn't want to and on all 4 of the cruises we have been on with Disney, he hasn't had to.

We are really looking forward to it. The kids are pretty good, they won't think about it much until it gets closer.
Tonight ds(to be 8 tomorrow) is having a sleepover with 2 of his friends from school. It's his first sleepover and so far they are being great!!

For his birthday we got him tickets to see the Jonas brothers, he was so happy!
I'll be on now and again. This will be our 2nd 7-day (we also did 3 4-day cruises on Wonder just got back last Thursday).
I know it's early but I highly recommend the Cooking excursion on Cozumel. We did it in November and had such a great time!
Have a good one all!!
Be back soon!

Hi all,:wave2: I haven't been around in ages; work and the kids off school has been keeping me too busy! Will try to do better, certainly as we get closer to the cruise. I was also wondering about what Trishde's said about NYEve apparel. Does anyone know if people will dress up more for formal and semi-formal nights since it's the NYEve cruise? I think semi-formal night will actually be on NYE, so......? Will more guys wear tuxes? On our Eastern cruise, my husband and two sons wore black suits and looked terrific. But I found a tux on sale at Kohl's recently and bought it for my husband -- now I'm debating whether or not to return it....:confused3

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hobbitmomma
07-28-2008, 01:04 PM
Well, we are planning on tuxes for both my husband and son. My husband just likes the way they look and he's looking forward to dressing up. That being said, I think that suits are fine too regardless of whether it's formal night or NYE. I don't think anyone should have to rent or buy a tux if they don't want to.

I'm actually wondering what they do for NYE. Does anyone know if they have a big blowout party or something? I'm curious. I wonder if they have an early party in the clubs for the kids who can't stay up until midnight.

Hi everyone!

My husband owns a tux and plans on bringing it and wearing it. DS will be 8 on the cruise and right now since it is a special NYE cruise, I was planning on getting one for him on ebay. I've heard you can get them there for a decent price.

I thought I read a post once from someone that went on a NYE cruise that they make NYE formal night and they have special stuff going on for the night.

It should be a fun cruise!

Hey guys!! Hope all are well. Just checking in to see what is up. Dh has talked to our TA and the Christmas prices for hotels are out for next year and we are booking next week (they won't let you book until next week)....we are going to be staying at the Poly a couple days before the cruise!!!!! Is anyone else coming early before the cruise?

DH probably won't wear a tux..but a very nice dark suit. I don't know for sure..I guess he could change his mind. :goodvibes

School starts on the 19th. It always makes me sad. I really like having the kids home and relaxing in the summer.

It had been hot here. The beginning of the week was sooooo bad...Heat index of 114!! Uhhhgggg!!

Hope all are well..talk to you soon!:thumbsup2

Hi back! I heard how hot it is right now in the midwest. Sounds awful. We have gotten a nice break in the heat here on the east coast.

We've been busy here too with back to school stuff and getting ready for vacation. Our schools go back on Sept. 2nd. We are getting ready to leave on Tuesday for Israel and London. It's a big trip and I'm getting stressed with packing and all. I just hope that my kids (7 & 9) will sleep for most of the flight.

For the cruise, we are hoping to fly in Christmas night (late) and stay at the MCO Hyatt. Originally we were just going to go with the DCL arrangements and fly down the morning of, but all of the postings warning us not to do that changed our minds. It's going to be tough though. Still, we can't wait!!

Hi everyone!
Looks like we'll be on this cruise!
We just got back from the EB repo cruise and rebooked onboard a buncha rooms- just realized on this cruise (our 2nd cruise) that we could book onboard up to 5 rooms since we have 5 in our family! woohoo! LOL
I just contacted TA to let me know which 2 rooms we can get for this booking. We just have to work around school with the older in highschool now. She missed the first week of school this year for our recent cruise- and I don't think we'll want to do that again (middle child will be in middle school next year too) -so we had lmited times to work around and I already told DH I'd really rather not go in the middle of summer anymore. LOL Well our first cruise was the first double dip to CC cruise late May/early June... and this cruise was Aug 17-Sept 1st and I'd really like cooler weather.
Is it really any cooler in the Caribbean during the winter months? I hope so- just a LITTLE cooler would be nice. We're from Texas so we can handle heat- it's the combination of heat and all that HUMIDITY that I find uncomfortable. I might actually enjoy deck 9 and 10 more if it wasn't so hot! LOL

So anyway- we only had a few times to work with and we figured since we like to do the parks before the cruise that we'd go to WDW then this cruise. We have been to the parks during Christmas to NYE before, and also before christmas before... and although it's crowded, we still like the ambiance or whatever you want to call it- during the holidays. :)

so... thinking it was quiet around here huh? Well never fear, BIP is here. ;)

(won't be that quiet anymore! Sorry....... hehe)
Count us in. We just booked on-board. Me, DH and DDs 13 and 15 when sailing. OMG, the kids are getting so old. I guess thats why we booked two cabins! A NYE cruise should be exciting.
Our kiddos will be DD 15, DS just turning 12 in Nov before this cruise and DD 9.5 at the time of this cruise. :)
I'm thinking a NYE cruise should be exciting too!

The kids talk about it all the time. It is going to be so great! I just wish it wasn't so far away.
This time we aren't telling the kids either!
They are so bummed about having to get off the ship from the EB cruise and they know I rebooked "dummy dates" onboard but have no idea we're already finalizing some dates for the actual cruises! We're totally going to do what you're doing... some hints in the gifts for Christmas and I dunno- I might even wait till we're leaving or I may even say it's just a WDW trip and then surprise them with the cruise after our WDW stay! Let's see how long I can actually keep my mouth shut and keep it a secret. This will be a true test for me. hehe
The time will go by faster than you know it. We thought it would take forever for our first cruise (May/June 2006) and again for the last one (Aug/Sept 2008) but really it just seems to go slow until you get to the last 9mo to a year away- then time flies by! Atleast it seems that way to me. It goes into super sonic speed the last couple of months before the cruise. Or maybe it just seemed that way for us because on both cruises I was on threads that were moving along at super sonic speed with lots of talkers (the first cruise the name of the thread was blabbermouths- so that tells you something huh? LOL) and that makes time go by faster!

Just got off a B2B today (4 day double dip and then 3 day) and we booked this cruise!!! We are very excited. It will be our 6th cruise. When the cruise happens DD will be 15 and DS will be 12!!!!!
Just in case you didn't notice above- our DD will be 15, DS just turned 12 (and youngest will be 9.5) -so our older two will be the exact same ages and gender as yours! woohoo! :) Maybe this time the kids can actually talk (on disboards... kids thread maybe?) with other kids before the cruise... I never got around to letting them do that on the last cruise. LOL

Hi all,:wave2: I haven't been around in ages; work and the kids off school has been keeping me too busy! Will try to do better, certainly as we get closer to the cruise. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I really can't say (never cruised on NYE before) -and to be honest I don't know what we'll do. At this point, unless I change my mind in the future, after 2 cruises we've just about decided we're not fond of doing the dining times with, or without, the kids (have tried both ways- neither works well for us). I'd honestly like to just not bother with the dining times and lugging all the evening wear with us and having to spend so much time getting myself and everyone all fixed up for dinner and all that. I'm wondering how freeing it would feel to just go to topsiders each night? We're seriously considering doing that. we were going to do that on this cruise but got talked into doing dining by another DIS'er on our thread. LOL

I hear you. My husband is the party pooper that wants to go to bed early (and get up early- bah humbug to that.. not when on vacation please! LOL) every night. Maybe I could join you gals cause you're right- it's no fun going around by yourself. :guilty:
(wait- you said your mom booked it- so if you're a kid... nevermind cause I know you wouldn't want to hang around with some old lady LOL)

HI!
Thanks for the warm welcome!
BBB is fine.. or you can call me BIP- nicknamed that on the other thread and then someone tagged me that BIP stood for Bibbidy is a pirate... so the name stuck. LOL Maybe they didn't want to call me BBB since it sounds like the better business bureau? LOL

Well... do you think your kids could talk to mine but not let on that we're doing the same cruise? I'd love the kids to talk before the cruise BUT we're thinking that we want this cruise to be a surprise. Partly just to make sure if something comes up and we can't do the cruise that they won't be disappointed (they are taking it pretty hard after this cruise and I wouldn't want to disappoint them even more to have to say we're not going on a cruise they were planning on- yanno?) and partly just to make it a surprise!

We did get our onboard booking for 2 rooms on the dummy date switched to this date- we have a cat 7 with a cat 11 across the hall (we had a cat 6 and cat 11 on the recent repo cruise and it worked, for us, just as good as connecting rooms did on the first cruise). I also booked a site at FW for the week prior to this cruise- we don't like the idea of going to FL and not doing the parks before the cruise and have always wanted to try out camping at FW. (taking our trailer... I don't like camping enough to go there in tents! LOL) We booked it for Dec 20-26th. We're thinking if we DO end up keeping that and going to FW for the week before- that when we leave on the 26th we'll just let the kids assume we're going home... cause they won't have a clue that we're going to the port until they see the ship and at that point we can say oh maybe we should do a disney cruise instead of going home? And just wait for the looks on their faces. LOL
:goodvibes
We've never really been able to do a surprise trip like that... always end up telling them long before the cruise! (or the minute we book the dates LOL)

Hey we could get together at the parks in the days before the cruise, if you wanted to meet before the cruise! :)

Hope the rain/weather isn't causing you any damage!

Hey everybody! I haven't been on this thread in a while. I have been so busy planning/dreaming about Nathan's wish trip! I keep telling myself, once we are back from the wish trip, it will be just a little over a year until the cruise. That will go by fast, right?

Oklamomof4boys.......I read about your sons Wish trip....we are flying in just a few days after you guys...too bad we miss you. You will have a great time. How was your trip to DL the other week??

We are really looking forward to the wish trip. When we are at Disney is just about the only time I'm not constantly thinking about Nathan's illness. It is a wonderful diversion. We had a great time at Disneyland! We are considering buying into the DVC but we are going to wait until the ones in California go on sale. ( we went to their presentation in DL. Nathan loved the "club"-which was actually just their babysitting place while we were listening to the speech. He said it reminded him of the club on the cruise. He will be very disappointed if/when we buy into it when he realizes that the "club" isn't part of it!)

I hope my boys meet some friends on this cruise- they will be 17, 14, 13 and 11. They didn't meet anybody on our other cruise- but they didn't spend much time at all in the clubs.

Um... let's see.... they could just be talking in case they DO cruise together in the future or that they MIGHT cruise together in the future. really all your kids have to do is not speak specifically about specific dates and such. ;) think they can manage that? If not I understand... cause if the tables were reversed I'd be afraid my kids couldn't keep the secret either! LOL

Meeting at the parks before the cruise sounds great! We'll probably get even more people on this cruise by the time it happens and maybe we can organize group meets so we can all meet before the cruise! But if not, we'd like to meet you guys. :)

Oklamomof4boys- My only son (my you have a lot of boys LOL) will be barely 12 by the time of this cruise... turns 12 that November... so it's likely he'll "match up" and become friends with either your 13yr old or your 11yr old or both! :)
(most likely both... he is very intelligent and gets along with older kids- but then he's a bit immature at times and gets along equally well with younger kids! LOL I foresee a "3-amigos" type thing possibly happening LOL)

I'm reading your pre-trip report about Nathan's wish trip now! He's so adorable!!!!
I hope he, and you all, have a fantastic time on his wish trip!

Hey BIP...we are going Tues. night and stying at the Poly. We are going to all the parks but doing something we have never done..taking a day off in the middle. We are always go, go, go so we are going to relax and enjoy the hotel and othe stuff one day. We are eating breakfast at Cinderella's castle!!! We did it probably 5 yrs ago and decided we wanted to go again!! We are very excited. We are eating at Jiko's. We ate there last Oct. when we went and loved it!! On our day off we are going to go Downtown Disney. We are planning on eating at Capt. Jack's that day. DH bday is Thanksgiving day and mine is Sun. the 30th (we go home that evening) so we will celebrate those!! And most of all we we have a blast...(no matter what) because we always do and we are at Disney!!:thumbsup2

So glad you had a TOAL!! Tell us more about it!!! We would have loved to go but school had already started and I was worried about DD missing the 2nd week of High School.

Well I have to get DS out for the Band bus. On Tues and Fri. he goes early so he can play Clarinet. DD did it but she palyed (and still does) the Cello. She ahd to pick one of the biggest instruments!!:goodvibes

Have a great day!!! Come on others..post away!!:goodvibes

I'm sure you'll have a great time. I know our most favorite vacation to WDW was the one that was longer because we had some days mixed in that we didn't go to the parks. Now that's not to say it has to be a long vacation to really enjoy it- just saying that not on the go go go go every single day and taking a day off from that made the vacation even better. :) I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Well, about the TOAL... be glad to share more with you- but what are you interested in hearing about? LOL My youngest two missed the first week of school but weren't even counted absent- they considered them "enrolling" the first day they went after the TOAL. They were supposed to do the same thing for my eldest (this year freshman in highschool) but while we were on the trip they apparently changed their minds- said they had to leave her enrolled, count her excused absent, in order to keep her schedule she already had. Which means she not only had to catch up in all AP classes (another surprise for both of us....) after missing a week but ALSO make up all the homework (which is considerable) for the first week she missed. It's been rough and I definitely won't be taking her out of school for a week anymore. Gone are the days of being able to do that without any major hassles once we return.... and by the time she's out of school my son will be starting highschool and so on. Counting this year we have 10 yrs nonstop of "atleast one of our kids in highschool" (that's how we refer to it.. the 10yrs of dreaded highschool kids LOL j/k) So I guess no more vacations during the school year for us!
(until the kids are grown)

Band bus? I wish we had that... I get to drag us up out of bed super early EVERY DAY (they have marching band practice before school every day during football season) to get her up there. I wish we had a band bus! LOL My daughter plays clarinet too.

Hope you have a great day too!

Whatever you to tell about the trip is good. I just love to hear about the cruise. That sucks about your daughter and school. We have always taken the kids out of school (OOHH:goodvibes ) one or two days for trips..but i jsut figured it would be harder in HS ...and i was right!! Is your DD all caught up?

The band bus is for 4th and 5th graders...they have a program where they can play an instrument before school on 2 days a week. It is really great. DD has continued to play the cello thru middle school and is still palying her Freshman year. She is going to Atlanta in April for a concert. She's not totally into it but still likes it.

We are going to have a VERY wet weekend. We are getting rain now and then are supposed to get up to 8 inches Sat and Sun from Ike. W ehave had so much flooding this year. DS baseball field was under 20 ft. of water earlier this year and then 2 weeks later under 5 ft.

Hope all are having a great weekend....I have work tomorrow..yuck.

Hello to all fellow cruisers. I was on this morning looking at our other thread - 61 days until the Traveling Turkeys Double Dip - and found that we have a thread for this cruise also! I am fairly new at this and sometimes it takes me a while!!:rotfl2:

Anyway - it will be four of us; DH(celebrating his 50th birthday):dance3: myself, DD14 (she will be 2 months away from her 15th birthday - 9th grade) and DS12 (he will be in 7th grade). Looks like there are several of us who will have kids the same age:woohoo:

Hello everybody...We are doing a b2b with the Christmas cruise. Since the May repo, I guess seven days is not enough. I will have my son, who will be 18 and my daughter, who will be 12 with me. We are not doing Christmas at home for a few years so we booked a b2b.

My favorite culinary experience on the ship with the high tea, I would like to host a high tea for our cruise. Both ladies and their husbands. On my last cruise, the ladies insisted that the husbands come and they loved it just as much as we did. They were very worldly and sophisticated men.

As the time grows near, we should plan a high tea and a brunch in the private room in Palo. And we should get lanyards with our cruise name. Wait! We don't have one.

This is bad, we need a cruise name and graphic. Maybe you creative types can help.

Hope all are well. Talk to you later!

TammyAlphabet: My DW ::MinnieMo loves her afternoon tea, so count us in. Yes, believe it or not, I even joined her on our last cruise (along with my parents), though I much prefer my watered down coffee. Does that make me worldly and sophisticated? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We've done brunch several times, although not in the "private room". That would be cool. :thumbsup2

I was thinking we probably should also start a who's cruising list. What does everyone think of that? Just a summarization of who's cruising in each party.
For example, my family: MN Dis Fans = DH ::MickeyMo , DW::MinnieMo , DS (14) pirate: , DS (12)pirate: .
On our last cruise, some also listed their staterooms, although some may not wish to do this.

Creative Cruise Names and Graphics? I think I'll need to defer this to you folks. We can certainly change the thread name should we come up with a good one.

I've not posted to this thread for a while, been busy with that thing called "work", so welcome to all you new posters!

We should have both a high tea and a private brunch. I don't think it will be too hard to book. I will ask my TA as the time grows near how to go about arranging this. Of course, the high tea can be booked when the other Palo are available. I will be asking my DS who will be 18 on this cruise, to join me at Palo. I think that will be really fun.

TammyAlphabet.....that sounds great!! We love the brunch too. We had a lot of fun in the private room last year. THat is nice that you will be able to take your son to Palo. I know DD would love to go when she is old enough. She loves to try different foods!

mn dis fans....that sounds great about putting a list together. I, however, will not volunteer since it would take me 4 days to do it!!!!:goodvibes I am not the best at computer stuff!! This is our info....DH, me, DD151/2, DS12. Wow posting their ages for the cruise makes me feels so old!!:scared1:
We have late seating (we love it) and are on Deck 7. This will be our 6th DCL. I guess that is about it.

Hope all are well. I know we are looking forward to out Thanksgiving trip at WDW this year. We will be there for DH 's bday(Thanksgiving Day) and mine on Sun. I won't tell how old though!!:goodvibes DH and I are heading to San Francisco and Sonoma on the 15th of this month so we are looking forward to that too. ::MinnieMo I was checking to see if anyone was on for my cruise over this year's Christmas and found my group for next year New Year's!

We will be there - we booked Christmas '07 - My husband was in line to book our '08 for Christmas and asked if I wanted to do the '09 holiday thing - I said 'Sure, if you can get a suite' thinking there was no way one was available on a New Year's cruise - next thing I know we are booked and I am so excited! This will be our second New Year's cruise - we really enjoyed it year before last! Disney really does the Holiday Season right!

At this point - unless we can talk anyone else in the family to join us - next year it will just be the four of us - Anna will be 5, AJ will be 3 and we don't need to say how old Alan & I are! I am looking forward to doing NYE with the kids old enough to have their own party at the kids club!

We were saying at dinner tonight that this time next year we will have dinner on the Magic!
We are also thinkng way too far ahead but we have Christmas at our house but depending on flights, that might not be an option.
We had a great Christmas with the family (only sad part was dh's best friend, since they were kids, his mom passed Saturday so Tuesday night was the wake and Wednesday morning was the funeral).
We really need this cruise! So far away but it will be here before we know it.
Everyone have a happy & healthy new year!!
I go back to work the 5th, so I am sure I will be on the boards a little more.
Take care all

TrishdeSorry to hear of the loss of your DH's best friends Mom. We had a close scare at our house as well. My DW's Grandma (she's 95) had some issues at the nursing home, and they thought she wasn't going to make it. Thought we would be making an unscheduled trip to Denver. They managed to get an IV in her, and she is doing much better. 95 is pretty darn good going in my book!

Anyhow, I'm just hoping that we'll be able to keep this cruise. At work, we've done our scheduling for 2009, and currently I have neither X-Mas or New Year's off! :scared1: (I did get them both off this year) I work a type of job where I am on 4 weeks straight every day, and then take 4 weeks off.
So, now I need to work with my replacement guy (back to back) to see if I can get him to feel sorry for me, so we can work a deal out! Keeping my fingers crossed.

we're so looking forward to it - i've never spent a NYE at disney either a cruise or at the world.

this time we were on main dining and found it a bit of a rush trying to get everything done before dinner - including a nap for the kids ( oh ok and for us too  ) so we were thinking of swapping our dining to the late sitting that way we can get our nap and activities all done before dinner and then not feel quite so rushed.

what do you think? this time our cabin is in the middle of the ship deck 8 rather than aft like Christmas that may make it a bit noisier right?

The best NYE my DW & I ever had was at Pleasure Island in 98/99; I think. There were several bands: Huey Lewis, Rick Springfield and other,, the next morning we boarded the DCL.. Slept the entire bus ride to the ship.

We are booked for deck 8 also.. did you get your room assignment already? I looked all over the confirmation sheet and don't see a room.. :confused3

Oh well... its like 350 and some change til we cast off...:woohoo:

Welcome aboard SnowWhite2 Who is all cruising with you? I've added you to our cruise list on Page 1.

Kez250 Welcome aboard to you as well. I've also added your details to our cruise list.
We've always done late dining, so can't comment on the early seating. A couple of comments that I would make about late dining: It seems that our DS's have missed some good activities in the kids clubs because of late seating. In fact, often either the DW or I are having to nip out during the meal to drop one / or the other off, as there is something that they "can't" miss!
The plus side is after port days not having to rush to get ready for meal time, and on debarkation morning, not having to get up for the extremely early breakfast.:thumbsup2

HFC1969 At least we're down to less than a year? :rotfl2:

HFC 1969, we do have our room assignment , but only because we booked a suite I think.

You know i hadn't looked at it from the what they miss in the clubs perspective only a what extra they may get in the daytime so I think I'm gonna go back over the navigators for the christmas cruise but looking at it from a late dinner perspective rather than an early one and hopefully that'll help make up my mind - although with soooo long to go i'll probably change it back and forth about 20 times

Ah man... we are wait listed for a suite... Was supposed to have one for Easter 08 but our DS got pnemonia 2 days before we were supposed to leave.
So now we are patiently waiting to see where we are on deck 8 :scared:

As far as dining goes.. We have never had early seating.. I guess we are just trained into late seating now and like it. The only night you have to rush a bit is Pirate night. pirate: The only request we have ever made was this past cruise and that was for private table with just us 3. That ROCK'D :cool2:

We are in a suite as well this time - it is our first time in a suite and I am really excited about it! I hear we can get Palo's for room service! We like early seating. This past cruise I heard about a lot of people with late seating where the meals ran really long/late and with early things seem to go a bit quicker. I have been tempted to just eat on Deck 9 some nights so that I am not as rushed for the other activities - but I do enjoy the dining experience!

We are heading down in February for a week while the kids are on winter break

Apart from that I'm going to try and fit in a weekend with DD and a seperate one with DS and if I get really fortunate a couple of days during the F&W with DH

Whats everyone up to?

Counting down!
Just booked Boardwalk for Christmas night and waiting to hear about Jan 3rd-the flights are cheaper if we fly in the day before and out the day after.
Extremely excited-going to be a long 10 months!
So those of you who have been on a NYE cruise-what do they do for New Years?
I'm at work & forgot my reservation number-was going to check if they still offer the cooking excursion in cozumel-dh & I did that in 2007 and had a blast!
Now we just have to remind our families that Christmas dinner won't be at our house (unless my husband cooks the day before which he usually does anyway and they come down without us there lol)
Now it's the :santa: issue-it's not so much DS-12 as much as DS-8.
Maybe he can make a special stop Christmas eve (depending on when the flight is-could you imagine-ok presents opened leave them here gotta go to airport :scared: )
Guess I'd better get back to work!
Be back on real soon!!

We've been fairly quiet on this thread for the past couple of months. I have been trying "unsuccessfully" to re-arrange my rotational work schedule to get X-Mas / New Year's off this year. I had X-Mas / New Year's off last year, so can't blame my back to back for not wanting to give this time off to me.

Unfortunately, it's not going to happen, so we're going to have to jump ship on you folks. :sad2::sad1:

Good news is that we did book a June 6 Eastern yesterday, taking advantage of the Kids Sailing Free Promotion, so we'll be sailing in less than 2x months. :cool1::cool1:

Anway, just to give my fellow Dis'ers a "heads up" that we'll be releasing SPH's 5520 / 5522 / 5524 for this cruise a little later today. :thumbsup2

We'll also be releasing 5520 for the 19 - 26 Dec. (The Back to Back Cruises won't be happening this year.)

I forgot to check if there was a thread for this cruise until today. This will be our 3rd cruise and our 2nd NYE cruise. Last time, we were very impressed with the effort Disney puts into all the extras for the cruise. The kids club was even open until 2am for all the late night partyers.

I will be cruising with my wife and DD7.

I am a pretty new poster here. Been trolling the boards for a bit but my DW and I just got back from a land/sea honeymoon on the 19th and while we were onboard we booked this cruise. The 3 day cruise was just too short. We can't wait. It sure did make leaving the ship a lil easier though. We knew we would be back the day after Christmas. I wish we could cruise in off peak times but as you can see my job isn't too condusive to that. Add us to the list. Me- 36 DW 40 at the time of the cruise. Can't wait to see what NYE will be like on the ship! Hope to get to know some of you before we get there.

Hey fellow cruisers! I hate to identify a problem and then not lend myself to being part of the solution but here I go. "MN" took the lead on this thread but is no longer going on this cruise. We need someone to step in to manage "who's coming with us" and start up a Fish Extender list (names, room numbers, age, gender; private and off of the boards works great through private messaging or e-mail). I would do it but I am on a different kind of "cruise" (Navy deployment) so my connectivity is sporadic and unreliable so I am not the best choice. Hopefully someone with experience doing it will step in. If not, I will help someone new with as much information as I can.

I hate to throw that out and then take myself off of the ballot :confused3.

Let me know if I can help someone grab the helm and steer the ship .

I'd like to help out in any way I can. I just don't know what to do really. This will be our seond cruise. We did the 3 day a week ago and since it was so short there wasn't much of a meet/FE deal or anything. I will be more than happy to do whatever I can. I will just need some guidance. If someone wants to lend some assistance I will do what I can. Otherwise I will be able to help with whatever I can.

OK, folks this is absolutely pathetic that we don't have more going on with this cruise meet thread. I've done several cruises, have attended a few Dis Meets and been part of a few fish extender exchanges. We are less than 6 months away so let's start planning.

I have been on a cruise thread where we had a Yahoo group that was by invitation only where we could share cabin information and more personal stuff where you don't want the whole internet able to see it. I don't know how to set up a Yahoo group and I had my kid set up my Facebook account and have never gotten back on it. Amazingly, I used to write software for a living:confused3 but I've become one of those people who asks their kid to program and operate electronic devices.

I'm up to creating either one or setting up another system. Any ideas? I will create this group over the 4th of July weekend so please voice opinions by July 3.

Also, please think about when you would be up to having our first Dis Meet. Some ideas with pros and cons:
1. Around 3 pm in a lounge - eveyone is getting on board and all excited about their trip. SOme may be getting to the port late and some will be trying to unpack and find their way around the boat.
2. During the sailaway party - it can be hard to find a spot acceptable to everyone. Some kids and families like to be in the middle of the activies and it is hard to move on deck 9.
3. Between dinner seatings around 7:45 - could be rushed due to first night activities meeting your servers, getting to the show.
4. At a lounge after late dinner - this puts it at 10:15 and can be too late for some.

Just a warning...I'm not very outgoing and talkative unless I really know you or I'm really comfortable in a situation. But having a fun Dis Group can make a cruise that much more exciting.

I must warn you though.. We get on the ship eat lunch and head to the goofy pool.. Mrs hfc1969 lays out while I try and drown DS or is it the other way around... :lmao: usually stay there til they kick us out to get ready for the sail away party.

the "Welcome in 2010 on the Disney Magic" Facebook group. It looks like the total was up to three members prior to my request.

We did a mini-FE on the 4-day portion of the land/sea trip we did last New Year (spent the 31st/1st traveling with the kids). We had a little bit of a downer because the FE we ordered didn't arrive at our house in time and when we had it forwarded to the resort (AKL) the couldn't find it before we had to get to the port. The FE was pretty low key when we did it. I look forward to see and hear everyone's ideas on how we will do ours. For those who worry about creativity or cost (or both), there are plenty of awesome posts on how to participate without stressing out or going broke. My girls loved getting little surprises when we left or came back to the room. It was great to see their eyes light up over small nicknacks as much as they would have over the most expensive WDW/DCL toy.

On the Christmas cruise last year I had my red CC bag filled with gifts I received. For my FE gift, I put together a train made out of candy. I hot glued it together. It made so much sense when I thought of it - christmasy, ties into Walt's love of trains, etc. until I went to pack them to take on the plane to FL. I ended up with a carry on full of trains wrapped in bubble wrap along with a glue gun to fix any problems during transport. Note to self this year - consider getting them TO Florida.

It is a lot of fun to come back to your room and find the gifts.

The stuff last year on the Christmas Cruise was cool... Even though I
6itched and moaned the entire time Mrs. hfc1969 was buying stuff.

She bought all her stuff at Walgreens when they discounted all their holiday items right before Christmas. Little bags and filled them with trinkets.. :3dglasses

There were some very elaborate gifts,, like SnowWhite2's train.. it was cool:thumbsup2. But, we just aren't that creative or seem to have enough time..:confused3

But anytime we stay in a hotel, the boys think it is a vacation!

I am going to check out the facebook group now - great idea~!

Fish extenders are things you hang from the fish outside your door and people leave you things in them. Usually a group decides to do this and shares cabin numbers and everyone brings little treats to leave during the week - it is fun.

It is really hard to find a good time isn't it? We missed the last one because we flew in that day and by the time we got to the boat we were starved and forgot to change our watches! I think later may be better - my kids are young, but I think with the excitement of being back on the boat they would be up later than usual. Of course, this year we will be at the Contemporary (New DVC side!) for a few days before the cruise, so we will not arrive in a bad a shape as last year - but others may be a bit more rushed. OK, with all that said we are very open to a time...smile!

I've been lurking for a while but figured it is time to start posting. My sister and I will be on this cruise. We booked it during our May '08 cruise but it seemed so far away then. We will be celebrated my sister's birthday on the 29th. She has always wanted to do WDW on her birthday but the crowds of the holiday season have scared her away. She decided a cruise would be a nice compromise. We hope to find affordable airfare Christmas day and have a room booked at the BCV's for the night before the cruise. I am looking forward to reading about everyones else's plans.

I will be joining my girlfriend and her family on the NYE cruise in December. It is their family tradition to go on the New Year's DCL cruise every year, and I was lucky enough to be invited to join them in 2008 and again this year.

My girlfriend and I are both WDW cast members, and met while on the Disney College Program. I'm finishing up my last semester of school in upstate New York, and will hopefully be finding a job with Disney come January.

If anyone has questions about the DCL New Years festivities, let me know - my girlfriend is an expert and I'm pretty familiar too.

First of all, I just heard that my girlfriend's family made the decision not to go on the NYE cruise this year but instead save up for a Europe cruise in summer 2010.

Anyway, based on the positions of the two Disney ships, we were the only one far enough out to sea to have fireworks at midnight. Yes, that means we were THE ONLY ship at sea with fireworks at midnight. That's definitely something cool to brag about.

The party on deck for New Year's is a lot of fun - champagne all around for a toast, and Disney characters dressed just for the occasion.

There has to be more people out there who have read this thread and are not participating here or on Facebook. Please participate. I was a little hesitant on my last cruise but it put a little extra magic in it for my girls so I am glad I participated.

We did the fish extender on our last Disney Cruise and my 13 year old really wants to do it again. I just signed up for the Facebook page. So count us in!

What excursions has everyone decided on? I think we can sign up for them this weekend. I am looking forward to that!

Hi Keith! Glad you can join us. My girls are 13 and 15 also. Maybe they can chat before the cruise. Are you planning any pre-cruise activities at WDW?

Hi all! Is everyone on Facebook? I know I go on there several times a week and am rarely on the DIS board - especially now that we have a group there.

We are staying at BLT WDW from Dec 21st until the 26th then going to the ship! We are only doing two days at the part - Dec 22 at Epcot and Dec 23 at MK. I really didn't want to deal with the crowds and DH wanted a quiet restful time. We are doing resort character dining and dinner shows all the other days and even hitting Chef Mickey before going to the cruise.

I am going to do autograph books this year and put pictures of the kids with the characters on each page. Last year I got a Kodak mini printer that prints little pictures that can be stickers. It was a huge hit on the cruise - the staff loved getting a picture printed out for them and I loved getting pictures of everyone for the scrapbook! It is about the size of my digital camera and I would highly recommed it if you like instant gratification and sharing pictures! Anyway, I plan on making the kids mini scrapbook books from their autograph books!

I posted on the Facebook page about Electric Car rentals in Key West but I will put it on here too. Is anyone interested in splitting a 4 seater for a 4 hour rental - we take it for two and you take it for two. It would be a pretty inexpensive rental that way and would be enough time for a quick tour and a trip to Eckards...smile...I need my Diet Dr. Pepper! Let me know! I would think it is a busy time there and I should probably reserve it soon!

Hope all are having a great week! Close countdown mode!!!!!!!!!

Laurie,

That would be good if our kids could talk a head of time. We are coming in Christmas Eve very late to the Beach Villas and then taking the bus to the cruise. We are going to stay after the cruise for a couple of days though. Is your family doing any itineraries? I think I am going to sign up for the cave snorkeling in Cozumel and we are going scuba diving in Cayman. I am not sure what to do in Key West, if anything. We may just do it on our own.

I tried to look at the Electric car rentals and it said they were sold out already. I signed up for the Pirate scavenger hunt in Key West. I know it is probably for little kids but my daughters love those things! If they hate the idea tonight, I will cancel it :)

I signed up for the facebook group but I don't think I got confirmed yet.

Is the Fish Extender sign up on there? Is anyone doing it?

The fish extender exchange sign up is on the facebook page. Put your info there and I"ll update the master list.

Keith,

There are quite a few companies in Key West that rent the Electric Cars and pick you up at the ship. We are renting one for four hours and it is $99 for a four seater. Let me know if you want more information. I called the company listed in PassPorter and they seemed great and still had cars available earlier this week.

My kids (3 girls and a boy) have no idea what they are getting for Christmas, but I have a feeling they'll like it!

Hi everyone,

We were originally booked on this cruise then decided we should wait another year and rebooked for next year. But, of course as it got closer, changed our minds and I just rebooked for this year. Still seems to be lots of rooms left.

I have made no plans for this trip and we are going to surprise the kids so I have a lot of work to do in the next month. I am guessing it is probably too late to get in on the FE exchange but maybe we can join the meet.

Our family (DH, me, DS 10, DS 9, DS 6 and DD 5 months) are joining my parents, siblings and their kids on our first ever DCL experience. We have 5 rooms booked all together. We are all so excited. None of us really know what to expect but from what we've read here I think we are going to have a great time. Anybody have "must know" tips for newbies?
