YES! That would be great! Any insider scoop is terrific! Did you book any DCL cruises for 2009?

We're only there for the day....Norwegian Jewel.....and we would have LOVED company!! It's just the hubby and kids and me this time.

Our only plan for the day is to taxi to Brewer's Bay and snorkel....taking in the sights along the way.
Sounds like most of the cruise passengers are going to The Baths.....and I'm going in the opposite direction of them.;)

I'll save the list of ship excursions for you, and take pics, and try to grab a bunch of brochures from the port.

2009 is our "land trip" year. Jay & I agreed that we'd cruise one year, stay on an island for a week or ten days the next year. Although I snuck two cruises (for him...3 for me) in for 2008. Guess I didn't stick with the plan. :rolleyes1
This past summer, instead of cruising, we stayed in a private home on a private beach in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Stunning!!

That's a really pretty place. I wonder if we could go there for the day? How was the beach out front?

I just wanted to check in. My family is set cruise to Tortola too. We have never been there. We love the DCL. We were on the WC cruise this year, it was great. Can't wait until April 2009.

I'm just checking in also!:thumbsup2

It will be exciting to be on the first Disney Magic cruise to Tortola or Tortula :confused3 (our thread title says u and some of you guys are using o so I'm unsure). I've never been on any of the DCL firsts before, so this'll be great.

Guess I'll be keeping the kids out of school an extra week after vacation. I don't think they'll mind but the school probably will:teacher: .

Hey, I lived in Wakefield for a year! Lovely town! Used to jog around that big pond every day. Wish I had that body back again. :guilty:

I visited the Island whichever way it's spelled when I was on one of those tall ship Barefoot Cruises in the late '80's. I remember it was very beautiful.

Anyway, it'll be me and my 3 DS's as usual. This time my oldest will be old enough for the stack at 14, my middle will be 12, and my youngest will be 11! Yikes:scared1: First DCL cruise we did they were 5, 6 & 8.

We were also on the Western April '07! This will be our 3rd time on the Eastern...cannot wait to see Tortola!

I will be traveling with my DH and DS's they will be 11 and 14 (Look out Stack!!) The boys were 5 and 9 on our first Disney Cruise

Our DS's are close in age. Maybe I can get my DS's to actually stay at a Cruisemeet for more than three seconds this time if there are kids their own age there. They always roll their eyes and look over their shoulders like I'm keeping them from the best part of the cruise.

Just booked it for my 40th Birthday!

We'll be joining y'all on our family's first ever Disney Cruise! :cheer2:

I managed to get connecting SPC's! I'm elated! My kids will be 7, 9 and 11. So far, I've only told my oldest. She knows how to keep a secret!

Dh told me that as long as we're flying all the way to FL, we better make it worth it by visiting WDW as well (we've never been). OMG, I don't think I can take the pressure of planning both! :faint:

I'm thinking it would be better timing to do WDW after the cruise (since May is regular season vs. peak). Am I crazy to do it this way?

Looking forward to talking and planning with everyone! :goodvibes

Pershing: We will have to hook the boys up. Last cruise, the kids had their own thread that they all got to know each other on and it was great. They all met up at the terminal and alot of them spent the entire cruise together! My older DS had a blast just hanging out while my youngest was half in the clubs and half out. Alot of the kids just hung together regardless of their ages!

Dadlvsdisney: The kids have already started texting again!

DangerMouse: On our first cruise we too in fact felt it was necessary to go to Mickey's House. We booked an extra 4 days after the cruise. I can tell you that it was a huge mistake for us. We were so used to being pampered that we were shocked! We went from gourmet meals to burgers and fries that we had to actually pay for..and it wasn't cheap. We had to turn our own beds down:scared1: ...LOL! The kids were exhausted from the cruise so were in no mood to walk around and stand in line...a quote from the then 9 year old "why are we standing in this stupid line to ride this stupid ride" Plus we ended up staying into the Easter Holiday which made it even worse!

That was just our experience. This will be our 4th Disney Cruise and I can tell you that it is the best vacation we take! Our kids luv it and my DH and I luv it! The kids do their own thing and we do ours....together and seperate. You wont be disappointed!

Just booked it for my 40th Birthday!

I did the same thing for my 40th birthday! I had a pina colada in my hand watching the sunset on my 40th. They gave me a birthday cake at dinner. It was really great! I have fond memories of it. I hope yours is just as special! :wizard:

:welcome: LocustPoint. Glad someone else posted on the board!:cheer2: so I could come and chat.

This is our second Disney Cruise and we won't go on any other - has enough for every age. pirate: Still thinking if we want to do 1-2 days at WDW before the trip. Would have to take DD out of school for that time (week of cruise is school vacation).:rolleyes1

Going to WDW in 28 days!!! :cloud9: Staying at Saratoga Springs in a 2 bedroom as we are taking down 2 friends of ours, my girlfriend and her daughter. 1st time for my girlfriend to go, (her husband wanted no part of this trip and I really think he would have LOVE the engineering and architecture of the place) and her daughter who is now 15, was with us when she was 7 and does not remember much , but remembers she LOVED it. She also does not have many pictures because our NEW camera clicked away on film and even advanced, but nothing showed up on the film. The worst part - my DD and her friend were holding hands with Belle (this was the Family Tour)and got to ride on the It's A Small World Ride with her and the film did not take any pictures of that nor the many characters we waited in line to see. So she does not have any pictures to look at for the memories and the camera company, Cannon, did not do a thing.

1st time cruisers with kids, if you want character signatures, take whatever you want to have autographed and go to the Customer Service Desk and they will have the character sign it and return before you leave. We took a blank cardboard picture frame and the characters (we wanted all) signed it and we had it before we departed. We only got one color autographs, and some got multicolored. party: I have ours hanging up with one of our cruise pictures.

Looking forward to more chatting. :disrocks:

Thanks for the welcome. My DH and I will be at WDW in 31 days, staying at BWV and celebrating our 3rd anniversry. We are going down for ESPN the Weekend and the PPP on March 1st. Then we are heading down to Ft Lauderdale hopefully via Vero Beach for a couple of days for spring training.
I've cruised before to Alaska and am looking forward to my first Disney Cruise. I've been hitting the boards gathering all sorts of information. It seems so far away until April 09 but it will be here before we know it! Looking forward to chatting with everyone in the future.

I booked this cruise last night for his big 5-0 birthday in April 09.

We've cruised once before on the Magic - for my 5-0 - and loved it. :lovestruc :lovestruc I thought it would be nice to repay the favor!

I may try to talk some family members into going with us.

I was glad to see there was a thread already going! I really enjoyed meeting folks before we cruised last time.

Any other cruisers out there?????

BTW, HAPPY MARDI GRAS TO EVERYONE!!

Just wanted to introduce ourselves. We just changed our reservations from the December 06 Eastern Caribbean to the April 25th Tortola cruise. :thumbsup2 I am sure my better half (Lucky Penny) will chime in from time to time.

This will be our 2nd cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed our Western Caribbean on the Magic this past September.

All our kids are grown, but one day we talk about taking the granddaughters with us when they get older. They live in Orlando and have no idea what a life without Disney is like. The Mouse makes it very difficult to lure my son and his family back to Virginia. We may have to move to Florida to save money and vacation time.

We are looking forward to meeting you all.

Prior to our September 22nd Western, my only cruising experience was with the U.S. Navy and the Disney cruise was way better than that!

Several years ago, we were talking with a lady that worked for a cruise line and as a result of her job, got two free cruises a year and she still spent her own money to go on Disney cruises. We had a great time and can't wait to experience the Magic again. I think your DH will have a great time also. I highly recommend the Tequila Tasting seminar.

Welcom B&B Mom. Yes, we were on the April 2007 Cruise.
Met a lot of DIS members on board. The first DISmeet was great to see the group and then throughout the trip saying HI to peole by name! It was so much fun.

Now we are counting down going to WDW in 8 days! :hourglass Then we will come back and change our Disney vacation Countdown to set sail for April 2009!

Trings, you guys thinking of going to WDW for a few days before the trip? We are not sure if we want to do that or not yet.

My MIL heard what a great time we had last trip, that she has booked this one.

Hi Bill, it was very cold down in Florida, even when they said the weather was goint to be higher. Felt like 40. I actually had to wear my winter coat when we went to downtown disney because it was cold. Loved teh parks though. Miss it even now.

But lsutigger2, are you doing the 13 month dance?:cool1:

Spring is here tomorrow!:woohoo: So the weather should get better and the snow we have here in the New England area should be gone soon! Can't wait to see ground.:wizard:

Bill, did you ever eat at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom? That was absolutely fabulous. I know that you were thinking Yak and Yeti, how was that if you went? Did the family enjoy WDW even with the cold?

We had first timers go with us, my friend and her daughter (hubby could not make it) and they were amazed and fell in love. They want to go back with us when we go anywhere from Sept 2009 - 2010, thinking April 2010 for the flower expo in Epcot which my friend's husband would love. He loves gardening and photography, so he would enjoy it. He is not relly one for rides. Type of guy who likes to take pictures of the same thing at different angles.

Well, talk and read the baord later! Everyone have a great day.

I am "Lucky Penny" - DW of scottrob - just wanted to say hello, and HOORAY!!! We just found out our DS and DDIL will be on this cruise with us! :cool1: :dance3: :woohoo: Not bringing our two perfect granddaughters, but maybe next time! They're still pretty young (2 and 4).

We loved meeting people ahead of time for our last cruise (9/22/07 Western) and linked reservations with two other couples - one from Illinois and one from the UK - so we could all have dinner together. It was like sitting down with old friends by the time we were there!

I agree 100% with DH's recommendation of the Tequila/Margarita seminar! Since we have three at sea days this time, I hope to check out the wine and martini tastings as well.

Look foward to getting to know you all!!

Anyone want some connecting secret porthole cabins (5522, 5524)??

I just sadly had to cancel our cruise. :( It's just too expensive for us right now, so we will wait until the new ships are out in 2010 and pray that DCL lowers their prices.

On a good note, we're going to Hawaii in September instead for half the price of the cruise! :)

DangerMouse, Sorry you won't be cruising with us - Wow! Hawaii for half the price? I keep thinking if one of the new ships is on the west coast, maybe they will cruise to Hawaii :scratchin - I'd love to go sometime if it wasn't for all that air travel...

And we have to wait until next year because my DH won't be 50 until then.

I realised last week that next year is our 10th anniversary :bride: :groom: - so we can let our waiters bring us a cake! ::yes:: On our last cruise our waiters were DETERMINED to give us a cake for something - we finally admitted that we both had birthdays that year, and an anniversary too, and they gave us a cake on our last night. Despite our valiant efforts we were unable to finish it ... :cake:

To gather the funds to pay for the cruise? ;)

hey amy2girls! We are also from NH. My DD14 (15 time of cruise) and I are starting to work on our count DOWN timer for the cruise. First we will count every 2 weeks or so, then the last 60 days, day by day! Gives us something to look forward to. Depending on when the Harry Potter theme park is ready, might get there a day or 2 before the cruise!

DW (Debbie) and I recently booked the April 2009 Tortola trip.

We'll be celebrating DW's 50th birthday and a 5 year anniversary.

We were engaged at WDW and spent our honeymoon on Tortola. When we heard about this cruise, we had to book.

We absolutely loved Tortola when we were there. It's far less commercialized than other islands. Everyone we met there was great.

Cane Garden Bay is beautiful and offers a great calm beach. Most of the sailing ships anchor in this area.
Brewers Bay is a bit of a bumpy ride, but offers far better snokeling than Cane Garden.
There are several other beaches that it appears Disney isn't offering excursions to.
If Disney offers an excursion to the Baths on Virgin Gorda, I highly recommend it.

We MAY be joining you all. I just put a request in for Dreams Unlimited for a quote for this cruise. It would be me, DSis, and DNiece, who will be three at the time. It'll be our first Eastern Cruise - an Eastern turned Western in 2005 (thanks, Hurricane Rita  ) and a land-and-sea to the Bahamas on a four night in 2001. I have wanted an Eastern cruise for a long time. St. Maarten doesn't interest me, so we're checking this one out. We will most likely book and then hope that a) I get a new job that isn't as restrictive on when I take time off and b) I can scrounge up the moulah! Anyways, I wanted to check you all out first to make sure you were a friendly bunch, and congrats! You have passed my test! We'll let you know in a few days if we book!

Good evening all.
Just stopping by to give the thread a bump back to page one.

We are going to be joining you on this cruise.
We know some of you already.

Linda (Seaulater) and I have been on the same cruise before, share a birthday and love girl scout cookies.:rotfl2: Also have talked with Robert a few times.

Also have cruised with Dale and Bob and Gordy(wrabitdad).

Looking forward to Disney's first visit to Tortola.

Just thought I'd post again to bump up our thread. I am "double-dipping" my membership - I'm part of this group and the PassPorter group since Jennifer and Dave Marx are celebrating a 10th anniversary of the PassPorter by being on this cruise. Very exciting!

We are in a category 5, stateroom #7558, starboard side. Very excited about that as long as we back into Castaway Cay - we'll have a view of the island from our verandah!

Not much else to report. Weather here in Ohio is lovely today, thanks to a bunch of storms last night that cooled off the yicky humidity.

Say prayers for our mom - tomorrow she's getting a shoulder replacement surgery.

Night all!

We'll be on the April 25 09 sailing!!! Mom, Dad and the 4 kids. Can't wait. This will be our 2nd DCL cruise, first was a 4 night eastern and we stayed in the Walt Suite. Unfortunately I obsessed over it until I booked Tortola in the walt suite for next year. I honestly don't know how I get myself into these situations. Now I have to obsess over how I will pay for it. Let's see, with all those kids the federal stimulus check is supposed to be pretty big... Send it to Disney. Hrm. In the fall we get a property tax rebate check, that's pretty big, send it to disney. See, it's already working itself out. I can talk myself into anything...

In any event, I'm already looking forward to it as the 4 night went by so quickly.

Welcome Roveer! The thread isn't too active yet, but I imagine in the months to come it will be! Very exciting that you'll be in the Walt Suite. On our last DCL cruise, I organized a stateroom tour for our DIS group. Maybe we'll have to do that again so we can lay eyes on that beauty! :) Have a good Saturday!

Morgy: I can verify that taking a cruise for a milestone birthday is a great way to spend it!! I took a cruise for my 50th and this cruise is in celebration of my DH's 50th.

Anyone else going to be celebrating a b'day while we sailing the seas??

donaldsgal
07-06-2008, 08:31 PM
It's a belated celebration because traveling at the end of April was cheaper than over her birthday, but we are celebrating my sister's birthday. She'll be 36. And a special aspect of her birthday is that her birthday is also "Gotcha Day" - it's a day that adoptive parents get to bring home their little bundle of joy. My sister met Hannah for the first time on her birthday. It was a great present! So it'll be her 36th birthday and 3rd Gotcha Day.

Here's a picture of us so you can get to know our lovely mugs:

I was in San Diego this past week. One evening we went down to the harbor area and a Carnival ship - the Wonder of the Sea ?? - was docked. It made me more anxious for April to roll around so we could be on the Magic. We took a harbor tour later in the afternoon and followed the ship into the harbor before it headed out to sea.

I'm really getting excited about this trip - how many days it it ? :confused3
I'll have to check my trip ticker and find out.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

We will also be celebrating our 1 year anniversary...even though we were married in november we took our honeymoon cruise last spril so we are counting this as our 1 year anniversary gift to each other!!

On our last cruise we did fish extenders and I was wondering if anyone else was wishing to do them on this cruise. It was a lot of fun and even though we do not have children we still had a great time filling all of the "mailboxes" with gifts from home. If anyone is interestyed we should start making a list of all those who will have fish extenders and the ages of their children (or adults!!)

Great Pic of the Fish Extenders

They are essentially mailboxes that hang from the fish beside your room door. During the cruise Dis members drop off "mail" in these boxes for the guests in the room. Usually it's just for the children but it's also a lot of fun to do for adults as well. If you search fish extenders on this board there is a ton of info on how to make them, ideas for gifts, etc.

Some of the things that we got were...pirate tatoos on pirate night, magnets celebrating each night on the door, candy, disney themed items, souveniers from the dis members hometowns etc.

It's a lot of fun to go each night and see what is waiting for you at your door.

If anyone wants to participate in this I am willing to start a list with room numbers and ages so we can all plan on gifts!!

Yea on under 200 days.

I am with you Dan, on the economy getting better soon. I am searching airline rates and  is all I can do! Over $500 dollars right now per person.

I have not yet booked flights because I use Southwest to do a direct flight from NH to FL and the dates are not yet out.

But we all need to PRAY and PRAY and hope we all make it on the cruise in APRIL!

I have my flights and I am hoping there are no changes. This is my second set of airline tickets, first ones that were booked were on Midwest and that flight was cancelled. Had to rebook on Delta and those flights are ok. The only one I am not happy with but can live with is the flight down. We are flying the day before staying at the Hyatt at MCO. The flight out of Milwaukee is at 5:55am and I get in to MCO before 11:30am I think (that is with a short layover in Atlanta). At least we can all get a good night sleep before we leave on Saturday.

LOL! I wish that I knew how to make the nice cruise banner in my signature!
One of the ladies on the Westbound TA put that together for everyone to use. I won't tell you how long it took me to put that in my signaturer!

I did have a bit of an idea for a cruise banner for us though. What about using the letter flags that ships sail to spell out Tortola and then add the numeral flag for one. We could put the flags on one line and then add the dates of the cruise below.

I don't know that I know how to do this so if anyone has any idea how to carry out the idea..... Go for it!

Here is a website to give you an idea what the flags look like:

I am not creative like that at all, organizae something is great - designing something - someone else needs to take control:rotfl2: .

Someone else had fish ?? that hangs on their door, and again, have no clue to make one, especially with my favorite characters - goofy, beauty and the beast, piglet, Ariel. Any help on directions to make would be great.

Ok, since we are all asking how to... any idea where to find tall/long polo shirts with disny charcters on them? When we went to Downtown Disney last year, could find polo shirts, but not with a disny character onit. I had found a polo shirt with goofy embroidered, the shirt was yellow and was the only shirt in the Disney store. But cannot find it anywhere. Help on the creative people out there. :confused3

180 days around teh workl to go for the trip!:wizard:

Safe halloween to everyone that reads the boards!:stir: pixiedust:

Have you checked disneyshopping.com ? They have polos that you can select the character and the color. The guys colors are red, navy, and black and gals have red, pink, and purple. Both are $34.50.

Unfortunately, neither are available in talls. I am 5-9 and I sometimes order mens sizes just to get the extra length. But the colors available are limited.

If it is for a guy, you might have to buy your own tall polo and try to find an embroidry place around you that would put Goofy on for you. I don't know if the ones in the parks will put a character on your own items or not.

The other option is an iron on character from a craft or sewing store and I don't know how well it would hold up after a few wearings!

Good luck!

Maybe it's time to introduce myself. I've been booked on this cruise for months, but I'm still referring to it as "the cruise I may or may not be taking" I figured I would make a decision in the fall when it came time to book air fare and I guess I'm almost there.

This will be my first DCL cruise and my fifth cruise overall.

They are fish extenders and they hang on the fish message holder on the left of your stateroom door. There are many different ways to make them. The best thing to do would be to search the main cruise board for fish extenders. There are hundreds of posts on them and no "right" way to make them.

Some are as simple as a fabric tote bag from the craft store. They personalize it by getting some images they want: characters, words, family pictures, etc and then printing them with their inkjet printer onto special iron on paper (also at the craft store). Add a little ribbon, buttons, glitter, whatever and you are done.

If you use the iron on paper, there are a couple of kinds depending on what color you are ironing it on. Just check that you are getting the kind you need. And make sure to take your coupon to Michaels or Hobby Lobby!

I would show you mine from the Panama Canal cruise, but I haven't figured out how to post pictures!

There are lots of good pictures on the cruise threads tho! Some of them are pretty complicated but don't let that scare you off, they don't have to be. They just have to do the job!

Polo shirts - is a for a man. I have searched and found nothing, but will check out the web site you mentions. Downtown Disney did have polos, but not tall/long ones. And Downtown Disney shop will not embroider on shirts you buy or bring yourself unsless you have the receipt to show you bought at Disney. Tried that last year when we went. And since they are licensed characters, haven't found any places in New Hampshire that have the license to do it. But the other option of an iron on would be next which I did not think about. THANKS!:thumbsup2

Will also check out the fish extenders too! Thanks for the link.

LOL! You don't need to DO anything to join in. BUT I do need help with the banner.

I only sort of know Word, so I was putting it together in that. I found a nice font and all the flags and even figured out how to size the flags and put shading around them, and then .....

I am stumped. I thought a nice color background might be nice, but couldn't figure out how to do it or how to size it or even how to get it to where people could see it so they could give their opinions on it!

So... You definately wouldn't be stepping on any toes here! If it would help you I could email you what I have.

Thanks for any and all help!

How does this look?

I had one with black font but changed to the yellow as it was easier to read.

I used the Taking it to Tortola slogan, to see what I could do, but that is easy to change.

Any suggestions are more than welcome.

I spelt T O R T O L A

The T (Red-White-Blue Bars) and the O (Red-Yellow Triangle) are both repeated :)

I could put the letters inside? Personally, I think it adds a bit of mystery without.

I'm glad everybody is getting on the "fish extender bandwagon"!!

I would be willing to compile a list of everyone who wants to participate...young or old...and your room numbers (if you know them).
This makes it a lot easier when delivering gifts.

On my last cruise we had about 20 rooms participate which seemed intimidating at first but was really not that bad. People were really creative abd came up with itmes that were small enough to pack as to not take up to much space. If you search on the boards there are many, many great ideas for fish extender gifts. The best gift we got was magnets that were made for each night of the cruise...so on pirate night there was mickey & minnie dressed in their pirate outfits with the date on it, on formal night they were in their formal outfits, etc. It was really fun to come back to the room and see which new magnet was stuck on our door. I'll try to get a picture of our door if I can remember how to put it on here.

The gifts can be for the adults and/or the children

For those who think it is time consuming it really only takes up as much time as you want it to. It depends on how much effort you want to put in to making/buying the gifts. Delivering the gifts only takes a couple minutes at the end of the day. We spread our gifts out throughout the cruise and did one floor each night. I also know from reading trip reports that children usually find it fun to deliver the gifts and I had a great time walking around the ship and seeing everyone's fabulous fish extenders and their decorated cabin doors.

We went down early last time. I believe it cost money to go to the port even from the airport. It is cheaper to rent towncar service (for 4 people). Also, they get you there earlier and at the time "you" want. Therefore you can get on the ship earlier.

today

Included was information about when the payments were due :scared1:
and some other info.

When will we receive specific information about excursions?? Included with the info sent today was the date that we could begin booking the excursions but not what they were or how much they cost.

I can't remember from our last cruise since it has been five years ago.

Anyone know??

For those of you staying at the Hyatt the night before I will be there as well. My flight has been changed again, but it looks like I will be arriving some time between 11am and 12 noon.

If you want to meet up let me know. Pretty soon we will be in the same year counting down.;)

Have one question, if I counted right the day I can make my reservations for the excursions is Feb 10, 2009. Can someone tell me if I counted right?

Welcome to boards. Hope you have a very Happy 40th Birthday while cruising.;)

Thanks!

We will be cruising with my MIL too ( I forgot to add her to our smilies :lovestruc ). She has NEVER vacationed ANYWHERE before!! So we thought we'd bring her along as her health hasn't been the best lately! She needs a break!
She is pretty mobile , but has a sore back and alot of trouble with her feet ( she's 74). She can walk, but not on uneven ground, and not for too long
so we are having trouble picking some excursions. The Baths look beautiful but probably not doable with my MIL..... The boys love the beach, but I want to see some of the islands.

What is everyone planning on doing while in Tortola?

We are looking at the island drive / beach break and lunch, and possibly doing St. Thomas on our own ( beach and shopping).

Anyone care to share?

I also am wondering about a character breakfast on this cruise. Does anyone know if there will be one, and what day?

Thanks!

I'll ask here first and if no one knows then I'll ask on the other board:

I paid off the balance on our cruise :scared1: :scared1: and in yesterdays mail was our receipt. On it there is a sentence that says:

"Online Booking: Includes a non-refundable, non-transferable stateroom onboard credit."

No where on the receipt does it indicate how much or any other information. I did book the cruise online way back in February 2008.

So does that mean that we will have an onboard credit, or am I reading that the wrong way?????? Sure would be nice

Hi All!

My first post on the disboards. What am I getting into? :woohoo:

Wife and I are taking our kids DS (6) and DD (4) on our first family cruise on April 25th. Can't wait to see you all on board! I need to learn about this FE stuff but we're really psyched to be cruising!

DW and I used to sail on the Windjammer Barefoot cruises a lot before kids. They went belly up :sad1: but wouldn't have been small kid friendly anyway. I'm thinking DCL has more kids stuff to do :thumbsup2 So this is our first trip back to the BVI that we loved so much 7 years ago. It'll be fun to take our son to Cane Garden Bay and tell him he was in mommy's tummy floating in the water here. hahaha

Anyway, we've had our reservations since last April and I've been surfing the boards for the past few months. Finally jumping into the pool with you all!

Hi, everyone!

We just booked this cruise! It's just my husband and me (no kids). We're really excited!

I've been looking over this thread and I see you're doing a "fish extender group"? What does that mean? I know what the fish extender is but are you going to exchange letters or gifts? Do you get one for everyone on the list or will you be assigned a person like a Secret Pal?

Also, are there any plans to meetup during the cruise?

lsutigger2
01-15-2009, 08:15 PM
Welcome Aboard Aznaphrodite and DH!

Most of our plans are not made yet :lmao: :lmao: so if anyone wants to start the conversation, please do so!!

I did agree to keep the list of the fish extender cruisers. So far there are about 10 or so 'official' families signed up. If there are not many more than that I think we can do just about anything we want as the group would not be so big that it makes it a "chore" for anyone. I'm looking forward to it. I've been researching the fish extender thread looking for cute ideas for making my holder. And I have a couple of ideas for gifts. I had thought I would surprise everyone on the list, since it was relatively small.

Is there anyone who would like to jump in that may not already be on the list?

And finally,

LET'S DO A DOUBLE DIGIT DANCE !!

WOW, it is really hard to find DISNEY material. SO I will have to make my fish extender with whatever is closer, but I have ideas on how to make it.

My perception of the fish extender is to have one "pocket per family member" and the gifts ( I have mine already:cool1: which are really cool ) go to one per person on the list, well mine would be for one each person.

So in addition to fish extenders, we are updating our door signs, and I am getting ready to start packing. I am very early on the packing. We live in NH, so the shorts and stuff are not being used at thistime :rotfl2: !

Then as I need stuff, I can buy a little at a time.

Last cruise 2 years ago, we met in the lobby of the port to say hello, and then again on the cruise ship. And of course, you saw each other through the week, some with small kids met on the board here and made excursions together for their little ones to meet new kids, and some got together to do things on the ship such as wine tasting and margaretta tasting. It was great!:grouphug:

We also tried to get people together for dinner time, but even though they sat us inthe same area, the tables were only good together for 2 families. The kids that met on this board through their parents, got to sit together one night while the parents went to Palo.

Is anyone adult dressing up for pirate night pirate: ? We did last year, very few adults did, but "Captain Jack" thought it was great and so did the photographer because it is mostly kids that dress up. Still up in the air:scratchin on if I am going to do it again. The pictures were great though of us and Captain Jack.

That is enought :flower3: info for now

dvc2themax - try Wal-Mart for Disney fabric. If there is not a store close or it is too cold to get out (?) try on-line. I got fabric there that I'll use for the pockets and will use a solid for the back.

I'll keep updating it if others join the group. I may make my fe tomorrow. Good thing to do while watching football on a Sunday afternoon. I think I got the rest of the supplies needed today :confused3

Someone had asked about pirate night and dressing up. I don't think we will dress but I do hope to participate. I wasn't even going to bring 'formal' clothes but my DH wants to :lmao: so we'll be doing that as well. It was kind of fun on our last cruise.

Hi Everyone,

We booked this cruise a couple of weeks ago. :yay: I have only been on one other cruise with DD and DS in my belly (Carnival Victory 2002). DH is a newbie to cruising on big boats.

I'm new to posting and boards so please bear with me.:sad2:

I would like to be included in the fish extender list. DD is 10 and DS is 5.

Would love to meet everyone!:grouphug:

Welcome BubblesNH and family. I've added you to the fish extender list.

Hi lsutigger2,
The last time was 8+ years ago, and we rented a sailboat and sailed bar to bar, so my memory is a little fuzzy. The 2 trips before that were diving trips and we stayed at a dive resort just west of Roadtown. I'm sure much has changed, but some of the names are still in the guidebooks. There was no cruise dock then, so don't know current layout.
We ate at the Lime N Mango and at Skyworld. We have eaten at all 3 Pusser Landings. We took a ferry to the Baths on Virgin Gorda. That was awesome!!! We had the beach to ourselves. We took a Catamaran from West End for a fantastic 1/2 day sail. We are not lay on the beach types, but did visit Cane Garden Bay and Brewer's Bay. Both are gorgeous.
I'm not sure yet what we are going to do in port. My DH is not a planner and I'm driving him nuts with trying to plan now. Leaning toward 1/2 day catamaran trip with snorkeling. My youngest is 5 and not too strong in the water yet. Hope this helps.

We are thinking of doing the Baths at Tortola which look interesting. Does anyone have any information to share? I tried using the 'search thread' tool, but it does not seem to come up with anything.

We are also looking at the St. John Island tour. This is our first Eastern. We did a Western back in October of 2007.

Looking forward to the Tequila Tasting.

We took the ferry over to Virgin Gorda and grabbed a cab at the ferry dock. It was a short trip to the top of The Baths. There is a restaurant at the top. You walk down a bunch of stairs and then followed a path through hugh boulders and I remember holding my bag on my head with water to my chest, but you could take another path and not get so wet. Took about 15 mins. Watch your head, I wacked mine good.:crazy2: Not like the states where they would have signs all around with padding on the low spots.:rotfl: It is worth the trip!!:goodvibes Bring drinks/snacks with you to the beach, there was nothing there but the most beautiful pink sand beach I have ever seen. We snorkeled a little and jumped off the rocks into the water. After a while Dinghys began to pull up and drop people off. There is lots of info on Cruise Critic boards with ferry times etc. I was considering this on our own, would love to show it to the kids, but DH thinks it will be crowded??? I Recommend water shoes. We went 10 years ago.

scottrob - I did the St. John Island Tour five years ago. I enjoyed it. My DH was playing golf on St. Thomas at the time. You board a safari type truck (think Kilimanjaro Safari) and will have a guide. We saw several of the bays from the road but I don't remember stopping at any. We also spent time at the ruins of a sugar cane plantation. That was interesting. There was time at the end for some shopping and I remember it being very good. Another thing that I remember was there wasn't any toilet paper at the restroom stops. You might want to bring along some. It wasn't very pleasant.:rolleyes2 . But I did enjoy the excursion and offered to do it again this trip with my DH, but I think we'll do something on St. Thomas instead.

CKCruising - what did you not like about walking around Road Town?

I think Dh and I are going to do the X-BOB excursion at Tortola. We get adventuresome while on vacation. Last vacation I took my first helicopter ride and last cruise we went parasailing, both of which I loved. I was hoping either before or after the X-BOB we would have time to explore around some on Tortola.

If you look back through this thread, I think there is a link to some great info on visiting The Baths, complete with pictures.

...CKCruising - what did you not like about walking around Road Town? ...
All I remember is the chickens running around town. :beach:

To be fair, the cruise also stopped at St. Barts and St. Lucia, so those are tough ports to compare to, but all we did was get off the ship and walk around downtown. Downtown seemed to be on par with Bahamas from what I remember. It seemed like a beautiful island, but this time I wanted to give it a fair shot.

Welcome Roveer.

For those of you that are on the bubble about the fish extender we wanted to give you a little more information that may help you decide.

On our cruise last April we had 13 cabins participating. We made our fish extender but we have seen posts that other people used a basket or something like that. We gave items representing Ohio. We probably spent about $30 for everything.

We decided to deliver our gifts on our first sea day. It took approximately 30 minutes to deliver the gifts. The only delay was when someone hadn’t put up their fish extender yet. We had to go back later to check to see if it was up yet then deliver their gift.

Hopefully this helps everyone out a little.
