Guess what, we are flying now instead of driving from VA. I was able to get airfare r/t for 6 of us for under $900 so now I have to look over my notes from last years cruise because we will probably stay closer to WDW vs. PC and I don't know if we want to get a car or not because we are getting in at 3pm on Friday or the other option would be to stay at the Airport Hyatt like we did last year and get a limo to pick us up. The only thing is our return flight is at 10:25 so we will have to be off the ship asap and not hang around like we've done in the past.

Brack...did you and Annette want shirts?
Total, I have 20 shirts, so that is enough to order. The setup fee will be divided among the 4 families unless I hear otherwise by Dec. 1
Just let me know if anyone else wants a shirt ASAP[/QUOT
So excited about the shirts.... let me know how much it will be... I am trying to find some cute plain Mickey and Minnie shirts too that we can get made in time for the cruise for the all aboard pic ... I love the pics of Bracks too!
Maybe this cruise I will get to spend more time taking some pics.... but my hubby will be missed and this cruise will start a new adventure for our family now of only 3.
I have paypal so I can send the $$$ as soon as I get a total for all 8. thanks!

just wondering if anyone has received their package for the trip as of yet?
really getting excited!! counting the days!
tinytink
12-03-2008, 09:09 PM
We have not received ours yet but I thinks we usually get it about two-three weeks before the cruise. We just booked our pre cruise hotel stay via Hotwire and we've reserved Happy Limo for our rides to the port and back. I've got to start working on getting the FE gift together then pack.
Does anyone know what the weather temps would be in Jan? I've got to know if I should pack summer or a mix. TIA

Nothing yet but the doc's should be here any day now. It's about that time. :woohoo:
The temps in the Caribbean will be in the 80's usually. It can be cool in Central Florida at night before and after the cruise so bring a jacket if you are staying then. :laundy:

27 days and we leave here. 29 days and we CRUISE!!!!!! We have snow on the ground and more on the way so I am looking forward to some warm sunshine!
My friends and I took the train into Chicago yesterday to have lunch in the Walnut Room at Macy's (formerly Marshall Field's) under the big Christmas tree. It our tradition to do this. It was fun. We cabbed to Water Tower Place on Michigan Ave, then ate ice cream sundaes at Ghirradelli's. Yum.:woohoo:

It looks like our cruise may be sold out. I have not been able to bring up any cabin inventories on the DCL website for a couple of days. This is fairly new as I was able to change to "Secret Verandah" room from a regular Navigator's Verandah last week when one became available.

Seems so, we didn't get the much hopeful upgrade with our GTY booking but we did get main dining vs. late. We prefer that much better and I can deal with the room we booked and at least we will be on deck 6 vs. deck 1 or 2.

I'll like to know as well. I sooo need to start packing since we are flying now I have to be careful of how much we bring cuz I'll have to pay for the checked baggage.
Still need to work on putting FE gifts together and making my FE, printing our door decoration....and on.....and on.....and on.....

From everything I have read here and heard onboard, the night between St. Maarten/St. Croix and St. Thomas is the only night they can slow the ship down enough without affecting arrival times. So, I would expect pirate night to be after St. Croix for this reason.

Have you ever stayed on Deck 2? We booked our room on Deck 2 for this cruise because we had heard good things about it and even visited there on the last cruise just to check it out. Just wondering ....
We have stayed on Deck 2 for most of our cruises. We really like it - the natural light, being close to the water, and easy access to activities on deck 3, 4 and 5 (want the atrium - go to mid ship, up one flight and you are there -- Parrot Cay or Animators - go aft and up - Beat Street or Walt Disney Theater go forward and up), easy on/off in the ports - only one deck up from where we board the ship. For this cruise we even got the same room as our last cruise - between midship and aft on the starboard side (away from the laundry on the port side). But alas, we will not be staying there on this cruise - because we got upgraded to a cat 5!!:cool1:  :cool1:  :yay: :yay: :cheer2: party: :jumping3: :jumping2: :Pinkbounc :bounce: Yep, 9 to 5 - what a way to go cruizin'. You know, I think that we have never been on deck 7 before (our first couple of cruises were in cat 10's)
I had been watching / making fake ressies to check on availability and for the past month there seemed to be a lot - so I thought that we would get to port early and try and buy one. Don't have to do that now!! Wooh Hooh!! Sorry for the rest of you that were hoping your gty rooms would be upgraded. Maybe one of you will be in our prior room on deck 2.
Can't stop :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
And can't wait for the New Year to get here - so looking forward to this cruise!!

MINE CAME TODAY!  :cheer2:
Although...we're not telling the kids until tomorrow night. I just said "Christmas surprises" when the UPS man came..."can't tell you more than that".
DH is rigging a hidden camera tomorrow night for the reveal.
DD (14) is notorious for listening in on, and getting in trouble for it, other people's conversations. She's at that age where she desperately wants to be an adult (I keep telling her to enjoy being a kid while she can!).
SOOOO, we're going to have a Caribbean dinner with the other family that's going (jerk chicken, johnny cake, sweet potato, and adobo rice). The adults in 1 room, the under 18's in the next room. At some point during dinner, the adults are just going to start talking very openly, and maybe a bit loudly, about the cruise and see how long before somebody comes in with the shouts of "WHAT????" If your eardrums shatter tomorrow night, it's the piercing screams coming from near Atlanta!

FE = So far, we have 10 girls (ages 2-18), 10 boys (ages 3-15) and a total of 46 people. Total # of cabins is 16. Everyone is still welcome to join but I will have to cut it off soon because I won't have time to get on the boards when it gets closer to Christmas. I think Friday the 19th is the last day to "sign up".
I have most of my FE gifts but if I need more we will be in WDW Thursday and Friday before the cruise. I have to finish our Fish Extender this week. Another trip to Joann's. :headache: My sewing machine does not work  .....so plan B calls for fusing fabric, iron-on letters, and hot glue.

Are the docs coming USPS, UPS or FedEx? Two cruises we had to pick them up at the FedEx office and our last cruise they were just left on the doorsteps. If it's USPS it could be another week before we see them. Our town post office is a little slow at getting things out.:rolleyes1

Our doc's arrived this 7.30 morning via FedEx. We are very excited!! Our daughter still doesn't have any idea we are going on the cruise. She thinks we are going to New York for Christmas and New Year, and then Florida for her 13th birthday. Can't wait to see the look on her face on 3rd January when we arrive at the port!!!
7 more sleeps until we say goodbye to summer and hello to winter in New York. We hope it snows!

"Fish Extender" Outside each cabin is a fish where DCL leaves mail or other such items. People started hanging stockings or other such items to collect gifts and information in. They became know as "Fish Extenders" because they made more room to put things in than the fish allowed.
We are using it for a gift exchange. It's fun.

I had to come up with 8 "take aways" or "disarms", 10 unique techniques (not found elsewhere in the curriculum) and my own form, or pattern which lasts 1:30-2:00. And, I have to have it all typed out to submit. I'll be fine if I can just remember it all-along with all the other stuff I've learned in the last year and a half (test is cumulative).

Hey,
Just wanted to let you all know... I haven't had time to get on the boards lately... I haven't even started packing! How crazy is that!!!!
Life since all that has happened... our house burning down May 10 and our Daddy (my husband) dying May 26 has been the most trying time in our lives and yet a time that God has shown His glory the most.
So now that we have a new house... and are getting settled in we had to deal with so many firsts... without our Daddy.. including this cruise that me and my husband had planned as a surprise but became now a family event.
I am glad that I got the t-shirts... and that I will get to meet all of you. And you will get to meet my other family.
I got us grey Mickey shirts for the guys... and blue Minnie shirts for all the girls... so we won't be hard to spot... unless the kids ditch to the pool! lol
We are planning to be at the port by 10:30... we are the nerds that wanna get on the cruise as soon as possible! We think the vacation doesn't start officially until we are at the port unloaded and in the port looking for great pix with the characters!
This will be my brother, his wife and 3 kids (6, 5, and 1) first cruise on Disney... and they are sooo excited.
I look forward to meeting each of you and introducing you to my kids and my bro and his family... as well as meeting all your families!
Take care and see you soon!

The cruise ship dock schedule for St. Thomas has been posted, and it looks like we are not going to be docking at WICO, and instead will anchor in the harbor and have to tender into St. Thomas. You can see the schedule yourself by clicking here (http://64.27.184.154/WicoExtranet/ShipSchedule/schedule.pdf). I think this is just a luck of the draw thing, but I have to admit I prefer docking to tendering.

Erin was a pred monster today. She just cried all day. 2 hours over a lost slipper, 2 hours that her brother wouldn't play zelda with her, anything, everything. Anytime someone else in the house would open their moouth to speak with her I would shoot them a look that said "be very careful of what you say" I had to call the team. They lowered the dose a bit.
Merry, Merry!

You all must be SO excited for this trip! It's happening in less than two weeks...
I'm sailing the March 28 St. Croix itinerary, so I thought I'd put a plug in for future St. Croix cruisers:
Please post a set of Navigators when you return!
To post them, first scan them all in. Then go to the Disney Cruise Line tab, click on Planning, choose "Navigators," then follow the instructions in the red box at the top of the page. (You'll attach the scans to an email, then the moderators will post them.)
And if you participate in the FE exchange, make sure you post pictures of your goodies! We're all living vicariously through you...
Happy packing, and happy holidays! I wish each of you a safe and delightful cruise. :goodvibes

We are so looking forward to "getting out of town". We have had very cold weather for December (nights below 0) and our usual snowfall for December is 8 inches and we have had 22+ already with a few days left. Fred used vacation days Friday, Monday and Tuesday and spent all his time blowing snow.
Now that Christmas is over we are starting to pack. We are going to try to avoid paying for an extra bag. We bought our tickets before they started charging for bags. We don't have to pay for our first, just second. That means less shoes. The wrong shoes can ruin a trip so I hate to leave comfy ones at home.

We are interested in January or December. Later in January would be my first choice. Januarys in Chicago are very long and cold. It would be nice to get away then.
September '09 to Tortola is tempting but during hurricane season it's possible we wouldn't get there anyhow.

We are interested in January or December. Later in January would be my first choice. Januarys in Chicago are very long and cold. It would be nice to get away then.
September '09 to Tortola is tempting but during hurricane season it's possible we wouldn't get there anyhow.
We would love to do a Panama Canal trip when they do another one.
I was looking at the website and they have a 10 day that looks like fun but it would be almost $10,000 without air :scared1:
I am planning to prebook something... my TA said I can book only 1 person in a room then she can get me what I want when the new boats are out in 2011. I do also wish they had a panama canal crossing again... I want to do that a LOT!!!!
See you all in a few days!

Kathi,
Wow, you guys have been through so much. So sorry to hear about your dad. It's never easy.
Sounds like we could all use some vegatating in the sun.
Irene
Irene,
I take inhaled steroids... similar to prednisone for her... and I take a med to counteract the negative effects of crying and irrational thoughts. It has been a lifesaver for me.... kids can cry and everyone blows it off... but for a 42 year old woman... not cool to have a nurse crying for no reason at all.... so I am better MOST of the time.
It was my husband... not my dad that died this year... and we call him "our daddy".. it will be a tough cruise but will offer closure too... and I do plan to prepay for another cruise while onboard... it is the best deal and onboard ship credits are getting us on an excursion we couldn't afford to do... so win/win!
See ya in the POrt!

Brack, what a thoughtful gift.
DHluvsdisney, my oldest DD is 18 and is too old to hang out with my younger kids in ther clubs.
Her name is Kay.
Awesome! Hopefully we can figure out how to get the 18's together. It's really a shame they don't have a program for that age group. They really should have the 16-20 together. DD was saying this group could have a lot of fun!

I am so jealous, I want to be enroute to FL. We had a pretty busy day here, DD had some major coughing so I took her to the doctor and guess what???? She's got bronchitis(sp?) so we've got her on antibotics and the nebulizer with albuteral and something else but we will have to bring all of this on the cruise with us so more stuff to pack. We're also trying to clean the house before we go so that is another feat in it's self.

How are we going to do FE? Can I make up bags and just drop off one nite instead of going to every cabin every nite?
I also got punching balloons. DCL states they don't want balloons. I totally understand becasue it could be dangerous to the sea life. Should I leave them behind or just put a note in the bag not to blow it up until home?

I am planning on delivering my FE's on one night. I don't know about the balloons, I guess you can put in a note not to be played with until you get home.

I've already made my FE bags...I will probably do decks 1,2, and 3 Sunday
decks 4 and 5 on Monday, and decks 6, 7, and 8 on Thursday. That way it's broken up a bit...Just gotta make sure the "kids" bags and the "adult" bags don't get mixed up :-)

Hi everyone,
My family is booked on the 3/28 St. Croix cruise and we are getting excited. I wonder if there is anyway someone could fax or post the navigators from your cruise. If you want to copy and mail them I would be happy to pay for postage.
Please PM me if you could do this and have a FANTASTIC time!

Ok, I think one of my posts disappeared. Anywhoo I think I am finished packing but we may need to move a couple things around to meet the 50lbs. We should get some new luggage because our empty luggage weighs 10lbs on it's own. I just weighed it and we're at 49lbs but we still have two suits to put in it. I hope we are not over, luckly I was still up because I totally realized I forgot to pack my youngest son's pirate costume. Then I had to find where I hid it.
Now I just remember we will need carseat too. How are we going to lug all of this....
ok signing out see you all at the port.

we're back and waaaay tired! Our 7 hour drive back to Atlanta took nearly 11...as we GOT to the port last Saturday, sunshinegirl's car decided it liked it in Florida, and did NOT want to go home. So, today we towed it against its wishes. U-Haul w/tow dolly doesn't go faster than 50-55 mph.
BUT, we got them home safely. Now, we just hope that the problem arose from something the mechanic did when it was in for routine maintenance a couple of weeks ago. Send sunshinegirl and bigdaddydon some pixie dust please!
We had a great time! I can't wait to post some pictures!!! Hope everyone else gets home safely.

St. Croix was nice. Due to budget constraints, we did not do an excursion there, and only saw the part of the island that was right by the ship. But, Fort Christian is right there, and admission is only $3 for adults-kids are free. There is a public beach within sight and walking distance of the dock. There was a little market set up on the square, and a welcoming committee with free rum punch! :drinking1
While the rum was very well priced ($7-$10/bottle of Cruzan) b/c it is made there, the other goods were comperably priced to what you might pay elsewhere.
I would have liked to have seen the rest of the island, but I can't complain-a full day ashore and all we spent was $6 to get into the fort (DH and I...kids were free) since we went back onboard briefly for lunch.

We took one of the tours that visited a plantation, the rum factory and the garden. It was nice but I would liked to have seen more of the island.
They are not really ready for tourists but I am sure that will change as more ships go there.
The seas were very calm.

Hey everyone! I was on the week after you for the Western cruise. Just wondering how warm your water in port was on the eastern? Was it swimable? I found castaway very very cold - so how would you compare your eastern waters to castaway?
plutojudy

The water at Megans Bay/St Thomas was very warm compared to Castaway Cay. That is the only beach we visited this cruise. December 2007, the water was warm at Castaway Cay.

We'll give it a look. :thumbsup2
In 2010 we are going on the East Bound Repo cruise to Barcelona in April so that may be our cruise for that year.
Two things that will also affect our going again in December 2010:
1. June of 2010 is very likely a move year for us. We will have done 4 years here in Baltimore and that is a lot for this position.
2. I am (more than Annette) determined to sail on the first cruise of one of the new ships! The first one should be in 2011 sometime.
Anyway there is a lot of water to flow under this ship before then. :rolleyes1
