Hi. We're thinking about going to San Diego this summer, with hopefully a day or 2 at DL. Anyone have ideas of things in San Diego that would be of interest to a 17 and 13 yr old? I know we could do either Sea World or the Zoo, but other ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

I'll be 15 when I go to San Diego and the whole Southern California area this March. I'm really excited because, yes, we are going to Sea World and the Zoo and that kind of thing, but we'll also get to hang out at the beach, explore Cornado, and even go to Tijuana for a little bit! Maybe some of those things would interest your teens?
Have a great trip!

I am a teen, and I love Sea World and the Zoo. But since you asked for other suggestions, my other fave place to go is Horton Plaza, a shopping center, which might not seem that special, but I really like it. :)

Thanks for the responses - and the helpful ideas. How about specific beaches - we live on the east coast, and this would be our first time seeing the Pacific. Also, any ideas for beachfront hotels in San Diego? I find quite a few when I search, but would love first hand opinions. What is Cornado? THanks again. :)

We are going with a 13 yr old boy and a 16 yr old girl (they will be those ages when we travel) next November, and are doing San Diego & Anaheim. We are thinking of doing Balboa Park/Seaworld, Old Town, taking a tour with the Trolley or some other type of transportation, Shopping (Christmas gifts!)
I'll keep my eye on this thread for more ideas though! I like when teens add to it, how appropriate!

Coronado is an island across the bay from downtown San Diego. It has a wonderful beach, the world famous Hotel del Coronado, some good shopping and a few military bases.
True beach front hotels in San Diego are difficult to come by. Most are on Mission Bay, which in my opionion just isn't equavilant to actually being on the ocean. There are a few in Coronado (Hotel del Coronado, Loews) and two in La Jolla (La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club and the one right next door that I forget the name of). Any of these are probably going to cost around $400 a night. Hope this helps.

Glad your coming down to San Diego..Coronado Island is especially fun to do..I don't know what your plan is for cars but you can take a ferry over to the island and everything else is pretty much within walking distance. One fun thing we've done in the past is to rent surrey bikes..they can fit up to four peddelers and they are super fun..here is a pic http://www.hiwheel.com/site_graphics/surrey_delfino.gif
And there is a rental place right near the ferry dock..http://hollandsbicycles.com/
Also here is a website of things to do on Coronado http://www.coronadovisitorcenter.com/coronado-recreation.html
Hope it helps..enjoy!!
