We're new to cruising DCL but love Disney and have been waiting a long time to finally board the Magic....we've started our countdown and can't wait so come on all you June 15th cruisers...jump in...the waters fine!

My family and I will be on this cruise! We're very excited!

YEAH!!! Nice to know someone is out there :sail: I was beginning to think we'd be the only one on the ship although considering the price I kinda doubted it. We're from Nevada too, Henderson to be exact. We're celebrating my daughters grad from HS (17) :tink: and my son :earsboy: will be 12 when we sail...what about you?

Nevada
12-08-2007, 12:30 PM
We're going with our neighbors here in Henderson! In fact the other family will also have a graduating 17 yr old girl! We are from the Eastern side of Henderson. What about you guys?

Also my 12 yr old son is coming along with my neighbors 12 yr old son! Those guys are currently in 6th grade. What about your son?

WOW that is super to have so much in common!

Sorcerer Mom

Oh my gosh! We live in GVR - son goes to B.Miller MS and daughter is graduating from Coronado. It would be really crazy if our kids already knew each other! We're huge DL fans too - been going at least 1x per yr since 2002.

Nevada
12-10-2007, 12:23 PM
WOW! Small world! The boys in this travel group go to Del Webb however the graduating girl in our group also goes to Coronado! I'm sure they can figure out who each other are without us naming names on the board. Ask your daughter to ask around as to who was Cinderella last year. She is a super sweet girl. Very kind. If they don't know each other already they can meet!

My oldest son went to Coronado also however he graduated the year before the girls started. He is a super goofball and is about to graduate college. This is going to be one big graduation cruise!

Sorcerer Mom
12-10-2007, 12:43 PM
That's just unbelievable! I'm sure she knows who she is - my daughter played in the orchestra pit for the play! My son is also in 6th grade and a sports nut, I'm sure the boys will have lots in common. We'll have to PM eachother we get closer to the date.

My girlfriend just came back from a 7 night Carib. cruise on Disney and I'm pouring over her navigators - can't wait to find out our itinerary. In the meantime, we've got a trip planned to DL for my son's bday and my gfriend's hubby's bday in Feb...we've done that trip since 2002 and it will have to be my fix till June!

I thought the orchestra was very talented! In fact I sat very close to the orchestra the night I went to Cinderella! Small world! I bet the girls know each other as they probably went to school together since their Bob Miller days!

Okay crazy. We're going to get our DL fix in Feb also! I think our dates are the 10th - 13th. What days are you guys going?

This will be our first disney cruise. In fact the first cruise for most people. We're a group of 12. 2 families. 6 and 6. We're very excited. What are you guys thinking about for excursions? Although we're 12 strong we not all going to do the same excursions most likely.

My family (DH, DW, DS21, DS12, DS5 and DD1)
Friend's family (DH, DW, DD17, DD14, DS12 and DS5)

What about you guys? Family of 4?

Nevada

Sorcerer Mom
12-10-2007, 04:53 PM
Yup-daugther knew who Cinderella was immediately....too funny!

Our DL trip is Jan 24-27 (we were able to eek in a couple of extra days 'cause of teacher in-service...yeah!)

The only excersion we're considering right now is a zip-line tour but may consider a beach day too or maybe jet skis...my kids would love that! I'm anxious to see if Disney will offer anything different from the other lines. I'll be sure to share all the tips from my friends who just came from their second DC...she is an expert! We've already started a list of stuff not to forget.

Yes, we are a family of four (DH, DW, DD, DS). Hope more people jump on the Boards for this date....I know there's more of us out there!

I've been away from the boards but with our final payment coming due soon, thought it was time to jump back on board! It is so nice to be able to have the Magic on this coast this year we couldn't help but book when we were on board last January! :wave2: Welcome Lauren bcl! Congrats. on this being your first Disney Cruise...it's ours too. :goodvibes We're a family of four (myself, DH, DD-17, DS-12). Not too sure about excursions for little ones but I'm sure others on this thread or another thread for the Mex. itins. will be able to help out. DCL has changed lots of stuff from the '05 Mex. Riv. cruise but you may want to look at trip reports on the DIS for those...some of those excursions may be the same. If you haven't already, check out the forum for lots of great info. about the kids clubs. Here's the info. from another thread in the Forum about theme nights for our Mex. cruise, of course, subject to change but at least it's a good start to begin planning and something to get excited about

"Dining attire varies by venue or theme night on your cruise. In general,
most meals are "Cruise Casual" -- no shorts, swimwear or tank tops;
jeans are allowed. Most cruises also have special theme nights. Below is
the recommended attire for your cruise itinerary and is subject to
change:

On 7-night Mexican Riviera cruises:
*Nights 1, 3, 4, & 7: cruise casual
*Night 2: "formal night" - formal wear for men: tuxedo or suit; for
women: gown or dress
*Night 5: pirate night with deck party
*Night 6: "semi-formal night" - semi-formal wear for men: suit/jacket;
for women: dress or pantsuit.

Dress for dinner at Palo on all cruises:
Men: dress shirt or jacket
Women: dress or pantsuit

Day 1 Embarkation - Casual
Day 2 At Sea - Formal
Day 3 Cabo San Lucas - Casual
Day 4 Mazatlan - Casual
Day 5 Puerto Vallarta - Pirate Night pirate:
Day 6 At Sea - Semi-Formal
Day 7 At Sea - Casual
Day 8 Disembarkation

Hope this helps and keep in touch...:earsboy:

I think formal nights are kinda fun even if your kids are younger (especially if one is a girl princess: ) and you'd get a great family pic! Semi-formal would be a good alternative especially since you'd probably get a bit more dressed up for Palo anyway. Did you have any luck with excursions? Hearing about all the crazy weather around the country was wondering where are you guys from?

Hi. We're going too. This will be our 4th Disney cruise. We have done the three night Wonder, seven day to St. Marteen and St. Thomas and did the Med cruise last summer. We loved the Med cruise! Good advice on the formal - a family pic will be nice (though I'll have to persuade my husband to put on a tie - that's not his idea of vacation wear!). As for excursions, we're thinking about a beach excursion in Cabo, not sure yet about Mazatlan (nothing sounded that great for our whole age range) and we're planning one of the dolphin experiences in PV. With littler ones we want to avoid long car rides on the shore days.:flower3: We're from the Bay Area and our friends we are traveling with are from LA.:wizard:

I know what you mean about getting your hubby to dress a certain way...we were talking about Pirate Night at dinner yesterday and you should have seen the look on his face when I said he had to dress up :rotfl2: He's not as much of a Disney freak as the rest of us are so it should be interesting to see what I can get him to agree to....pirate: We're torn with excursions...I think we may just enjoy the boat at Matatlan and right now just planning the Zip-Line in PV. I agree, there didn't seem to be much geared toward younger cruisers. The Dolphins should be fun...it was between that and the Zip-Line for us but to hear my 12 year old "tough-guy" :smooth: son scream like a girl on the Zip-Line is just too good to resist

We're looking forward to a short-ish drive to LA from LV and not having to deal with a long flight...I'm sure your family is too. We're under the four month mark....whoo hoo :thumbsup2

Hi. Sorcerer Mom. We live in NC and will be flying into LAX airport. Haven't made any plans after that. We thought we might be able to do DL after the cruise. Sunday after getting off of the boat and then Monday. Leave to fly home on Tuesday. I know that probably isn't a lot of time to see it but maybe would give us an overview. We are booked on a category 12 with hopes of upgrading at port. This will be an adjustment for us because on our honeymoon we splurged and got the family sized room with Verandah. That was nice, but I just can't see forking over that much money this time. We have never been to the west coast before, so we are trying to plan activities to do on the Sunday that we disembark. We want to see the Hollywood sign and the walk of fame, that kind of stuff.

A little about us...

I (26) am an accountant... not a CPA, but almost. I have been going to WDW since I was 6. I went on my first Disney cruise in 2006 and it was the most relaxing vacation I had ever had. My favorite Disney Resort in POFQ and my favorite ride is Space Mountain. My favorite thing about a Disney cruise is the food and slow pace of it all.

My wife (23) teaches kindergarten at a public school, and is the process of becoming a grad school student. She did not grow up in a "Disney" family, but was a quick and easy convert. Her first cruise was with me. Her favorite resort is also POFQ and favorite ride is Soarin'. Her favorite thing about a Disney cruise is getting pictures made (especially with Characters) and the shows. Oh yeah, she likes to blow all of our money at Shutter's too.

The only thing we are nervous about is our table assignment. I hope whoever gets us likes us!

Let's get this part started.

:disrocks: Oh, forgot to add that this will be our first trip to DL. Have been to Disney World several times.

You will love Disneyland. Be prepared though...the castle is a smaller scale which is what surprised us the most on our first visit but the park is very "intimate" with so many personal touches from Walt Disney and sprinkled with lots of pixie dust :tinker: . Doesn't look like they have the hours of the park posted yet for the end of June. Keep in mind that if you book a Disney property they offer early park entry most times. At that time of year when school is out, it will come in handy. I would start to look into hotels now to get the best $. When we can, we stay at a Disney hotel rather than a good neighbor because we don't have to mess with parking, transportation etc. There are hotels directly across the street - just choose carefully. Most are motel type properties, which are fine, some are just nicer than others. I'm sure you'll visit the Disneyland forum on the boards too which will, of course be helfpul...after all :disrocks: . Will get some of our favorite tips together for you and send soon :surfweb: . Even though you've only got a couple of days, that'll be enough time for you to see both parks and DD.

Looks like you have a neighbor onboard from SC :)

Thanks for the reply about Palo. We have got to do it... my tastebuds drive me crazy though. I don't like anything! I have the palate of a 4 year old! I like pizza and chicken and burgers. DW was shocked when I finished off all of my escargot on our honeymoon. I hope the servers at Palo can find something I like, even if it means 7 courses of dessert. HAHA.

As far as hooneymooning on the magic... Best decision we ever made. It was just amazing, and the staff knew we were celebrating because we put it on our reservation and they had a cake made for us. Our server said she would get a highchair out next time we came... We are still childless though.

It's great to know that your DD has gone to college knowing what she wants to be! I went with a big Question Mark. I was going to be a computer scientist before I settled on accounting.

I didn't understand from the prior post ... have you lived in vegas since '95 or did you live for one year in Vegas back in '95?

I better get back to doing these tax returns before my boss finds me DISn'.:ssst:

No worries...Christine (LV Stitch) is a pretty picky eater herself and she still loved it so go and enjoy and let's face it...if you enjoyed those little snails, you'll find something yummy. We're leaning towards doing just dinner 'cause the pics of the restaurant at night looks so romantic

Funny about the highchair...well, you do have an inside cabin so they'll be no distractions....;) then, maybe you'll need the highchair on the next cruise...:rotfl:

We've lived in Vegas since '95...DH and I grew up in NY

okay, back to work for both of us....try to figure out a way to make Disney cruises tax deductable will ya....

Is everyone deciding on the excursions? A big chunk of our group will be doing the zip line! I however will take the smaller kids on something they can enjoy! Our travel group is 12. I think 9 of whom want to do the zipline.

I got a letter yesterday about some of the excursions. There is a villa trip costing $2200 to Cape Miramar. I don't think I'm jumping on that one!

What time are the brunches? I might want to do that with Palo instead.

Hi. Thought I would let everyone know a little about our family. I work in the legal field for the court system. My DH is a EMS director. My DS16 loves Wake Forest and is hopeful to go there and major in the medical field. My DS3loves being wild. The age difference makes for interesting moments at our house.

This will be our 4th Disney cruise and we have been on other lines but found for our family that Disney is by far the best. My DS3 went on his first Disney cruise when he was 5 months so he has grown up around Disney. He loves the characters. My DS16 loves to pin trading so he enjoys doing that during the cruises.

Just a couple of things that have popped in my mind that might help first time cruisers. A great idea for souvenirs is to take something to guest services for autographs. We have done shirts, pillowcases, picture frame mat and our last cruise I took a tote bag and it turned out great. Also, take advantage of room service. It is great to order their cookies or cheese tray. Last cruise we even ate supper from there one night and it was great. The Mediterrean cruise was so port heavy that some days it was very late when returning to the boat. The day we were in Rome it was late and we were exhausted and it worked out good to have the room service.

I will be glad to try to answer any questions if new cruisers have any. We have two cat 12's booked but are hopeful for upgrades. Just couldn't bear to pay any more. We went on the Med cruise last summer cheaper than this one. Of course our airfare was out the roof to fly to Spain but the actual cruise was cheaper for that one.

Earpiemom,

Can we bring a small t-shirt and have Mickey's friends sign it?? That would be a cheap and sweet souvie for my nephew (5).

Room service... yes I had a cookie everynight... and often ordered a PB&J. (Remember the 4 year old palate). That is a really good tip.

My favorite tip was to fold all of your nice clothes tightly when packing... with no regard to whether they are wrinkled. Then when you get on the ship send everything to be pressed. On the drycleaning slip, write "Press Only" and they charge a pretty cheap price. That was cool.

We brought an over the door shoe organizer to put all of our stuff in, but found it unnecessary... mainly because there are only 2 of us.

Also, family is lucky to have gone on so many cruises! and 4 Disney. I hope we are able to treat our children to a lot of Disney memories when we have them.

Have you done a 3 night or 4 night on the wonder? Does it seem over too fast??

Stephen41782 - Yes, you could bring a small shirt for your nephew. I put our things in a ziplock bag and wrote our last name and room number on it. Take it to guest services the first day and they will fill out a form. They will ask you which characters you want to sign the item. The items were then returned to our stateroom the last night of the cruise. This is awesome! All of the things we have had done have turned out so good.

I do consider our family to be fortunate to have taken the cruises. We love going on them. We have done the 3 night Wonder and for me it is just way too short. It seemed we had just got on the boat and it was time to go. We drove down to FL for that trip and I felt the travel time was not worth the time on the boat. But, we did that for our DS 13th birthday. We were actually on the boat the night of his birthday so it turned out good. A lot of people make comments to me about our traveling so much but I look at it as great memories for our family. I have never regretted one minute of it. To me, Disney's service is so far better that we are kind of spoiled now.

I am not real good at downloading pictures but I know how to send one to an email. If you want to see some of the items we have had autographed I will be glad to try to email a picture to you.

So happy to read from Earpiemom that the autographed items came out nice and was hoping to do that with a photo mat...makes a great keepsake with a family pic. I had also thought in addition to getting the characters to sign, it would be neat to ask for the Captain's signature too but had read somehwere on the boards that if you ask for the Captain's signature, he'll only sign something if his is the only signature. :confused3 Do you know if that's true?

We're going to be sure and take our pin lanyards...we don't often wear them in the parks and on the rides for fear they will fall off...I read about the pin trading and bet you can get some unusual pins on the cruise...

We're looking forward to enjoying room service too...my DS wants to order something at 2am to see if the 24 hour thing really "works"...crazy kid :upsidedow Earpie - did your DS enjoy the kids clubs?

earpiemom
02-21-2008, 04:30 PM
Sorcerer Mom - I had the Captain to sign a lithograph in one of the stores on our last cruise. It showed the path of the Med cruise. He was at a table doing a meet and greet alone. I don't know about leaving something at guest services for the captain to sign.

My DS did room service several mornings at 2am and sure enough it worked. He was in a room next door to us so it didn't bother us. He would order chocolate chips cookies and chocolate milk. I felt kind of bad that they would come that far up there for just that but our room steward laughed and said they do that all the time. He said they knew the kids loved it. I just made sure he did tip them.

He enjoyed the kids clubs more when he was in the Oceaneer age group. I think that is the right name but that is for up to like 14 or so. I have always encouraged him to go to the first few meets for those. That way he gets to mix and mingle and usually meets up with someone or a couple of kids that he really gets along with. He has also met up with other kids his age at the pin trading and they have gotten along really great throughout the week. Especially since they have that in common. He met another guy his age on the St Thomas cruise during pin trading and they are actually from CA so we are hoping to get up with them while we are there for the cruise. My son has only missed one night of pin trading during the cruises we have been on. That was when we were in port in Rome and didn't get back in time. He loves that. I don't know how many pins you have, but for us Ebay was a great way to get some cheaper for him to trade.

I would like a photograph. My email is the same as my user name on the dis. Just add @ hotmail . com

I just talked to a friend who vacationed in puerto vallarta and was told that the zipline and ATV tours were good. You can also tour a beer factory there.
I don't know what we will do. On our last cruise we spent maybe 2 - 3 hours in Key West and Grand Cayman and enjoyed the free time w/ low crowds on the boat. We did spend the entire day at Cozumel and Castaway Cay though. My wife and I will have to look over the options together as it gets closer to time to book those exccursions. We are castaway members now, so maybe we can book a favorable time at PALO.

I don't think I'll share the success of the 2am cookie runs with my DS ;) . Even though we're in a Cat 6, I know all four of us will be tight...and makes me wish for two cabins but we decided to splurge on the verandah. Since he's 12 I'm hoping he'll have fun in the clubs...he's a social little dude. I love that they have the pin trading every night...WOW. Thanks for the ebay tip, I'll have to check that out. Many of our pins have sentimental value and would hate to see him part with some of them (will have to leave those home).

No, the slot machines are still up and running this morning :goodvibes The quake hit northern Nevada, Wells, Elko area which is about three + hours from Vegas. Is the brunch at Palo the same price as the proper supper?

Now I know what a fish extender is! I actually pictured streamers coming off the fish's tail and running down the hallway...lol. (Making the fish longer).

Our room assignment says "guaranty". We had a room assignment last cruise in 2006, but they bumped us up to a family verandah on the deck 8, so that turned out to be changed anyways. We had booked a Navigator's Verandah originally.

We are in a category 12 right now, but I'm hoping we get upgraded to Cat 10 so we can at least have two bathrooms. I understand that they let families of 4 book cat 12's and they are automatically bumped up to 11's since the 12's only hold 3 people. However, we will be on the DISNEY MAGIC!!, so I'll sleep in the crew bunks if neccessary.

Morning everyone :coffee:

Looking out my window at beautiful snow-capped Mt. Charleston but wishin it was the ocean and the Magic I was seein :boat: soon...soon

Crazy weekend....with DD swim try-outs and DS little league so I didn't even get a chance to get on-line...what's up with that?

We have a GTY also (Cat. 6) so no room number yet. I'm anxious to know 'cause I'd love to scope out where we are on the ship, look for room reviews etc. But, from what I've read with a GTY, the cabin # can be assigned anywhere from 30 days to when you check-in :scared1: Oh, well, like Steve said...as long as we're on the Magic it's gunna be okay :woohoo:

Nevada - Wish I could take the credit for the pic. but that's not our door. I did start to get stuff for our door decorations over the weekend...very exciting :goodvibes Scrapbooking stuff works great. The doors are metal so magnets are what make everyting stick...DCL asks that you NOT use any sort of tape or adhesive. I hope I can be as creative as some on the Boards. Lots of folks make their fish extenders and others improvise...just depends how handy you are. Decorating the door sure does make it easy to find yours too...another perk besides it just being fun to do.

Anyone purchase photo packages on previous cruises? Steven, I Know you said your DW LOVED Shutters....I'd love to get at least one great family photo...I'm sure there are lots to choose from over the course of the cruise but don't want to over do it. I'm sure the crew and other folks are good about taking pics right for you right?

Also, anyone planning to rent formal wear for the guys or have you rented from the ship before?

As far as pictures go... there are camera people EVERYWHERE. They are opportunities for pictures all the time. They have a lot of different backdrops, plus we got our picture made with the captain and with various characters. Camera people are also roaming around on deck to capture candid shots. They also come around at the restaurants and take them. We got a lot of great quality photos... but it is expensive.. I forget how much, but if you look on www.wdwinfo.com you should be able to find.

Between this and your DW being accepted to Grad School you'll have a ton to celebrate - perfect excuse for a Disney Cruise! We should try and meet for a toast on the ship :)

I've started the countdown to making that final payment...yikes :scared: After I pick my DH up off the floor, then we can start the fun countdown to actually getting on board.

I'm gunna be a proud parent for a sec....my DD made All-State Band. This is a pretty big deal in "Band World"...it means she's one of the best flute players in Nevada. Flute is one of the most competetive instruments because there are so many of them so we're sooo proud of her AND she got on the varsity swim team - it's been a good week! :thumbsup2

Quick question....Since you have cruised before, you can make reservations for excurusions and Palo earlier right as CC members? Did you make any decisions on what you think you might do. I'm leaning toward dinner at Palo (if I can get that day) on semi-formal night since we'll be dressed up anyway.

CONGRATS on the Allstate and swim team news... I play the trumpet, but I never made all state, only region band. She must be an exellent musician. My DW and I both play the trumpet at our church and actually met through marching band (please don't picture the stereotypical band nerds at this point)... We can understand your excitement. I think music education is so important. It develops a lot of areas of your brain at once. Congrats again.

As for palo... we haven't decided. We enjoy our dinner and waitstaff so much, but everyone says it's a must do. We have not had time to look at excursions yet. I am under the impression that castaway members can book 90 days out, if paid in full for palo, spa, and excursions. We will probably wait until mid-march to start really getting in to full cruise mode as that is when DW finds out her grad school schedule (crosses fingers).

Yeah... our final payment is due on March 31st, right? We are using our tax refund and some savings for this trip. Right now airfare is sitting at 4 to 500 per. YIKES! It will be worth it though!

We're going to try to fit in an LA sight seeing tour upon debarkation. Does anyone have suggestions? What can we do with our luggage? I'm assuming a hotel room wouldn't be ready until 3 or 4, but I figure it could be my last chance to go to LA so we better get cultured.

So funny, her boyfriend plays Trumpet in the Band...guest we know what instrument your kids will play :)

Hopefully someone from LA or that area can help you out with tours. There are lots of them and some areas you can just do on your own like G.Chinese Theatre etc. Just be careful to choose a hotel in a nice area. My DSIL lives nearby, I'll ask her if she has any recommendations.

Just watched all the NASCAR car haulers pass my office building on the highway...I"m not a race fan but it was pretty cool to see them. :car: They're getting ready to parade down Las Vegas Boulevard this afternoon. In case it makes national news, a friend's brother drives the hauler for the #17 car sponsored by DeWalt...it's school bus orange - you can't miss it.

Final Payment today!!!! It is always sooooo terrifying to see that much $ go away BUT sooooo worth it. I have to get back to the habit of the boards. I haven't been on for several weeks and was amazed to see all the activity. I have two teens. DS will be almost 15. Our DD 17 will also have just graduated HS on the 5th of June. We are also looking at excursions as we get to book next Sunday. Don't miss Palo if you have never been. My husband & I had both a brunch & a dinner on our last trip. Both were terriffic. Worth the extra $ and the tip we left as well. I noticed someone else was looking for excusions for younger children. Our youngest is missing the cutoff for most excusions as he turns 5 on the 28th. I saw the children's Dolphin Encounter but am not sure how that works. It says ages 4 -9 but I can't see Disney not expecting an adult to attend so I have to check into that. I saw the post about the teens starting a e-mail tree of some kind. I will have my DD send a post and see if she can coordinate. She is bummed that no one she met last time is making this cruise. At one point there were two other families from our previous cruise that were planning on doing this cruise but it did not work out. It might make her feel better if she has a connection prior to leaving. However I keep reminding her how many friends she and her brother met last time and that relieves some anxiety. I'm sitting at work looking at my travel stuff and am getting very excited!

Returning cruisers can book 95 days out and someone who has added a package such as the Romance Package can book 105 days out. I have heard that even if some packages show sold out, as long as they are still offerring that excursion ('cause they are subject to change), you may still be able to book once you get on the ship. So, don't loose all hope if one of the excursions you were intending to book was on that list ;) . Just be sure you're ready to get on-line the moment you're able to try and get the reservation. If you can't, be ready to bee-line it to the excursion desk once you board to try again at that time. I know you were concerned about getting excursions for your little ones so I'll wish for a sprinking of pixie dust pixiedust: and keep my fingers crossed for you. :thumbsup2

This will be our families 2nd trip on DCL. We are going with my sister in law, husband and daughter. They had the idea to do the DCL cruise together after their REPO cruise to the Mediterranean. My wife son and daughter did the Eastern cruise 2 years ago.

We all had a great time on our previous cruises because the cruise had something for everyone. My brother in-law likes to relax, sister in-law likes to explore and my wife and are kind of a mix plus when the sisters get together they enjoy being pampered with spa treatments. Wine, good food and shows all of this can be done without worrying about entertaining the kids. That was the giant pull to go on Disney. Looking forward to the cruise. See you folks there

Hello... We are also going on this cruise. Me, DH(43) and DD(10). We are from Phoenix and this will be our 3rd cruise. We went on the Mediterranean cruise last summer and have been on the 7 day Western Caribbean. We can not book excursions till the 17th for some reason..so please keep us posted as to what is already closed. Thanks.

Dayub - you mean you can book on 3/17 right 'cause your a CC member? I hope so, that would be really odd if you couldn't book till 4/17 :confused3

We're thinking of doing the Pirate Ship excursion 'cause I've read really favorable reviews from the folks that have taken the Mex '05 cruise. Is anyone doing fish extenders?? As it gets closer, I'm anxious to hopefully find out our cabin # since we have a GTY....SO EXCITED....JUNE WILL BE HERE BEFORE WE KNOW IT!

You may have been reading threads on the Forum about some changes at PC in FL about what can/cannot be checked, packed etc....thought I would post the summary that Mark posted as an FYI. He's updated the FAQ as well if you want to check there too. Again, this is for PC but I don't think it hurts to have the info.

Ok, FAQ has been updated.

Thanks to Shirley and Making_Memories for their efforts in squaring this away.

I am again going to attempt to summarize this to avoid any confusion.

PLEASE read this carefully before asking questions.

First, a general rule.

There are no restrictions on toiletry items either in carryons or in checked luggage, your shower gel, shampoos, sunscreens and the like are quite safe in either. If you pack them in checked, I do suggest placing them in a resealable plastic bag of some kind to protect from leakage as there is a lot of luggage and it's not handled very delicately to get it onboard in a timely manner.

Carryons:

Carryon rules have not changed. No hardside Igloo-style coolers. NO ICE. A rolling softside cooler bag full of the beverages of your choice is acceptable as long as it can go thru the airport style scanner they use at the entry to the terminal. The small rolling check luggage airlines allow is your guideline on size. Your carry on can contain other foodstuffs, they cannot require any food prep from the kitchen. Just be reasonable on what you bring is a good guideline. Also be aware there are drinks and snacks available for sale in the terminal.

Boxes:

You can ship one box per stateroom, of a size in line with a recordkeeping box, 12 inches on a side is a good guideline, no more than 20 lbs. Full instructions that you are required to follow are in the DIS DCL FAQ post stickied at the top of the forum.

Checked:

This is the biggest change folks. No water/liquor/sodas/other foodstuffs in the checked baggage, either bulk or single items. Yes, that includes checking cases of beverages with the porters. If you want to bring it, you'll need to bag it up and carry it on yourself per the carryon rules above.

I hope that's simple and clear enough for everyone.

just wondering if some of the other teens wanted to meet before the cruise via facebook, e-mail, aim, or myspace. :surfweb: i've always done this before cruises and it made it so much better once on the boat to know people already!

let me know and i can personal-message you my info, and we can get this party started before the party starts!

Thanks Sorcerer Mom for the great reminders. Last cruise we did not do any beverage carry on but since we are driving to port this time I'm seriously considering filling a rolling cooler full of water. The $ saved on the water package would make it worthwhile :thumbsup2

We were able to book our Palo & shore excursions last Sunday! Reality is really starting to hit. Tomorrow we have an appointment at the post office to get the kids passports renewed. I can't believe it is less then 90 days

Only a couple of excursions are sold out...some of the Dolphin Encounters/Swims and the Luxury Excursion so if you didn't get what you wanted at first, it may be worth it to take another look.

Have a great day everyone! :cool1:

Well not exactly. I am originally from New Jersey. I met my husband at a Yankee game. :)

So does everyone have a lot of kids? We have 2 DD's.

Brooklyn -7
Madison - 3

Brooklyn and Madison share the same birthday on June 13th. We are going to tell them on Fri that they will get there present from us on Sunday. Then we will take the hour drive to the boat. They are going to go CRAZY!!! We did the transatlantic Cruise last May and LOVED it. They have been asking to go back ever since!!!

Reason I asked is we're from New York....my DH is from Queens, I'm from Long Island and my DD was born in Westchester....my DS was born in Vegas, where we live now but, he still insists he's a New Yorker AND WE LOVE LOVE LOVE THE YANKEES :worship: ....see, great things happen at Yankee Games :goodvibes

DD is 17 (will be 18 in August) and graduating from HS which is the reason for our cruise, DS is 12 so, we don't have little ones but I believe other folks on this thread do. What a fantastic bday gift for your DDs - WOW! I would love to see their faces when you pull up to port :yay: Love their names too, and their pics are adorable.

We would love to do fish extenders but not sure about anyone else? I was going to put ours up anyway and leave little surprises in there for my kids (they might not be little but you're never too old for some Disney Magic and pixiedust: ) It would be great to have another family to join in....maybe that will get the ball rolling for everyone else to join in :woohoo:

Have you booked any excursions yet?

Saw your other post that you weren't able to get Palo - I bet you'll be able to once you board. I wanted brunch but nothing was available by the time I could book so I took dinner on the fourth night. I'm not sure if I want to try and switch once we board or just leave it alone. If we do try and change, I'd be happy to give you my dinner reservation if that would work for you guys.

Yes let me know about Palo. I am hoping for a brunch but would be happy with dinner. What time is your dinner at Palo?

What seating do you have? We have late seating. We did early last time and I felt like I was always rushing to get to the shows and stuff. I did not like it. Plus my kids really do not eat anything off the menus anyway so I plan on feeding them at normal dinner time and then maybe bring htem with us to dinner and maybe not. I am really hoping for our servers from last cruise. They were AMAZING. It seems like they are all good but I hope for ours again.

I called today and requests the PLLAPLA rotation. That puts us in Lumieres for Formal Night and Parrot Cay for Pirates Night. That is what we had last time. It was a lot of fun!

We have our stateroom number....5022. We got a secret porthole room so I am happy.

Are you heading to CA the day the cruise leaves or before? I am debating on if I should take my girls to DL the night before and make them think that is there surprise. Or we just get in the car on Sunday morning, take the 90 min drive & say SURPRISE! decisions....decisions

Sorcerer Mom

We've got 8:30p for Palo and we're booked for late dinner seating (we are late eaters anyway and I agree, I don't want to be rushed getting ready) and we requested to be in Lumiere's for formal night tool but I would be happy if we landed in AP on formal night too. I hope we get good servers, but from what I hear and read, they are all really terrifc....I love when they bring you "nothing" for dessert...so cute - I hope one of my kids does that one night, they would get such a kick out of it  .

We may drive to CA on Saturday night but, are you ready, here is the crrrazy :scared1: days I have leading up to the cruise...6/12 DD graduates from HS, 6/13 grad party at our house, 6/14 finish packing and take my DM to the airport to catch the red eye back to NY THEN either we leave after we drop her off or leave super early (like 2am early) on Sunday moring for CA. I've got a room booked at the Crowne Plaza by the port but I'm not sure if it's worth it if we get there at 3am. My friend laughs at me, she says I'll be the crazy lady waiting at the port at 5am to see the Magic sail back into port from the cruise before us :lmao: Just makes me nervous to leave the day we leave but I don't have too much choice - I will be ready for a good dose of pixiedust: and a drink of the day by the time I board that ship :upsidedow

Oh, your DDs will be sooooo excited, I'm excited for them...I think it would be great if you drove up to port as their surprise but I could never discourage a trip to DL - you can't go wrong either way. Love your pics with them and Snow White and Prince Charming - they are adorable. Here is a pic of my "little princess" from her Sr. Prom this year. They went to Phantom of the Opera afterwards and a lady came up to her and whispered "my daughter wanted me to tell you she thinks you look like Cinderella"...too cute. She wants to wear her gown on formal night and have her picture taken with the real Cinderella...17 yrs old and still can't wait to have her pic. taken with a Disney Princess (I hope she never outgrows that) :cloud9: .

The Prom picture is beautiful! I will post one of DD's Senior pics when I find the DVD. That way the two teens will know what each other look like. DD's prom is not until May 2nd. Brooklyn, my DS 4 will probably be with your youngest in the kids club. He is turning 5 the week after the cruise but I think he would be lost with the 5 to 7 year olds so I'm not bumping him to the next age bracket. We have early dining but DH wants to move it to late. We had that last time and liked it. However the older ones rushed so they could get to the Stack to see what they were missing. We also have Palo booked for the 4th night. I called my TA to see if she could request any rotation that did not put us in AP 4th night. I don't want to miss that! Brooklyn, do you know how to make a fish extender or should I just buy one on e-bay?

[Brooklyn, do you know how to make a fish extender or should I just buy one on e-bay?
Morning Everyone!

Secretkeeper....I know you asked Brooklyn about fish extender instructions. I noticed the links below on a Forum thread this morning and thought one may be helpful. Brooklyn may have better advice though but thought I'd post as an fyi...:surfweb:

Due to their size constraints (primarily width that you don't want more than around 9"), you'll probably need a homemade one. You'll see from these threads that there are many creative people who make them if they know how to sew or not. I've made ours, and I think we're going to take our own individual favorite FE and rotate them during the cruise! You'll find them on ebay, too.

Here are links to many threads that show you a Fish Extender, instructions on how to make one, and ideas of things to put in them.

Sorry for the delay in response.

I have an extra FE. It is Mickey print. I could even send it to you and you could use it as an example to make your own.

I can't sew. Someone made these for me on our last cruise.

I wanted to ask....do you want to do gifts just one day, more then one day. If it is just the three of us (I HOPE MORE PEOPLE JOIN IN) the I am more then happy to do more then one day. Just let me know your thoughts.

Well for the Trans-Atlantic we just did one gift. There were over 100 staterooms though.

I am def game for more then one night, expecially if there are only three of us....:rotfl:

It is so sad. I wish we had a better group!!!

Maybe we can each take 2 nights. What do you think???

I am not a huge pirate person so if someone would enjoy that night better then by all means, you can have it! :)

We can just skip night 1, well with only having to deliver to 2 staterooms I guess it does not matter. Maybe we sick the last night so we can pack up our fish extenders.

Whoops...totally missed this post - see my post below...you have to have your fish extender up the first night  100 Staterooms! holy cow! Oh, I am so hoping that this will make it to page 10, HAHA

We will be sure to have our extender up on the first night. I am packing it in our carry on so I can decorate our stateroom before we let the girls go to our room for the first time. I also want to make sure that the stateroom gifts I ordered are in there before they see the room too.

You can have pirate night! Random also works but if we assign certain days then we can spread it out over the cruise instead of ALL (3 of us :lmao: ) doing it on the same night.

Yes, I needed a suitcase just to bring all 100 of our gifts on board. I had to carry them on the plane to FL bc I did not want them to melt. Then drag them to the Hyatt, then on the bus to the ship then on board. It was crazy!!! You will understand more when you get one of your gifts from me! ;)

I really wish more people were participating!!!!!!!!!! :confused3

Hi Brooklyn & Sorcerer Mom:

Thanks for the links! I have no problem doing more then one night! Just let me know and I'll get going on goodies!!! We have 2 Staterooms they are 6089 & 6090. The teens are in the inside cabin. We did ajoining last year and realized we spent a lot of money for a bed, a closet & a shower for them. DH really enjoyed the veranda so we went down a deck and got the inside for them. I guess I need two extenders :scared: I'll have to find the sewing machinie :rotfl2:

Brooklyn - saw the signs you posted on one of the forum threads...so creative, they are great!

For formal night, are any of your DH's and DS wearing tuxes or going less formal? My DS wants a tux in the worst way, a white dinner jacket to be exact :rolleyes2 . Can't get him to wear a coordinated outfit to school, but he wants a white dinner jacket for the cruise...go figure :confused3

Brooklyn's suggestion of assigned nights to spread it out sounds like a plan....so assign away Brooklyn! and hopefully we'll have more people to add (HINT, HINT for anyone out lurking out there :sail: ).

Secretkeeper - Love to know what you guys think of your inside stateroom. We're leaning toward 2 of these for our next cruise :rolleyes1. We're hoping to cruise again in 2 years and by that time, our little family of four will all be "adult size" and I'm think one state room (split bathroom or not) will be just a bit too crowded :crowded: .

This cruise is so funny. I have even looked on other forums and I can't find anyone else going on this cruise!!! I just don't get it. :confused3 :confused3

Well atleast we will be able to find each other easier!!! :rotfl: I have gone magnet CRAZY!!! I can't wait to decorate my door.

My DH might be wearing his Marine Dress Blues. He asked me the other day about it. He brought them last time. He is not a tux kind of guy. We will probably do his uniform just not sure.

We LOVED our inside stateroom last time. I hope I love it this time too!! We atleast we got a secret porthole room so we will see somewhat of the outside world, HAHA.

Ok so lets do this...
Day 1 - Boarding Day - Brooklyn
Day 2 - At Sea - Secretkeeper
Day 3 - Cabo - Sorcerer Mom
Day 4 - Mazatlan - Secretkeeper
Day 5 - Puerto Vallareta (Pirate Night) - Sorcerer Mom
Day 6 - At Sea - Brooklyn
Nothing Day 7 - At Sea - Unless someone wants to take it.

I took the first and last night because it is easier for me to remember. HAHA I was going to take the Mazatlan day and just alternate each day between the 3 of us but I was worried that I would forget. I am a nervous wreck about leaving my daughters on the ship while we go zip line. We will be gone all day and I will be a wreck, I am worried I would forget to deliver the gifts. :)

If anyone wants to switch any just let me know.

Oh, dress blues...how great, better than a tux anyday! I'm excited to decorate our door too! I've gotten a few magnets made by the nice folks on the DIS threads and will attempt to do some on my own but I'm leaving most as a surprise for my kids and DH. My DH thinks I'm nuts already with this stuff (can you tell he is not a Disney addict just yet?) But, I have hopes this cruise will make him one!

Are you doing zip line in PV? If so, we may get off the ship to do a bit of sightseeing for a short time but no planned excursions. I'm sure they will be perfectly fine but I'd be happy to peek in on your little princesses while you're on the zip line.

I wanted to make a magent for DH since we board on Father's Day. I want to keep it a surprise from him. If you need help with any magnets let me know. I will be happy to help.

No Zip Line in Mazatlan. Thank you for the offer though. I am soooo stressed about it. DD 7 will be fine but I am so worried about DD 3. Ugh!!!

Just wondering if anyone else booked the Dolphin Encounter through Sea Life Park in Puerto Vallarta. We did not book through DCL bc we could not take our DD 3 with us. At Sea Life Park not only can we take her with us but she is free!!! Adults are only $69 and kids 6 - 12 are $59.

Just wondering if anyone else booked this.

It seems like a cool place, it is like a mini water park and admissio to the water park is included in the price above.

My family and my husbands family will be going on the cruise. My brother will be 17 and graduating high school the week of the cruise and my other brother is 12. This is crazy that so many kids are 17 and 12 on the cruise! We're really looking forward to it...about 6 weeks to go! Wahoo!

BTW someone mentioned they were zip-lining and we are too....we're really looking forward to that excursion!

Has anyone gone on this trip before or do you know of any cool things we should do on the ship? My husband and I went last year for our honeymoon, but this is the first DC for the rest of the family (my dads been wanting to go for YEARS) and we'd love to make it extra special for them.

Nice to see were not the only ones in 12 and hoping to upgrade. When we went on our honeymoon we did it right too but this time we couldn't justify the expense although we're hoping we might get moved up...either way though we'll have a great time. Have you heard if upgrading is likely? The TA pretty much laughed at me when I asked about it so I'm not terribly hopeful. Anyways, my husband is 27 and I'm 24 and this is our second cruise too. I grew up in a Disney household and my husband did not, but like your wife he was a quick convert and now won't cruise any other way and even encourages my tour of DL for all my friends who have never been (I had a season pass for years and was a wee bit obsessed with learning trivia for some of that time  ). The cruise last time was the most relaxing trip I'd even taken :cloud9: so I'm really looking forward to this one too!

 Glad that you're joining us! How fun that you'll be traveling with lots of family! Yes, seems like there will be lots of HS grads on board, my DD included :goodvibes This is the first DC for me and my family but there are some veteran cruisers here who will, I'm sure, have some great advice. As soon as the first Mex. Riv. cruise returns lets hope to see some navigators posted so we can get the scoop on activities etc.

Brooklyn is our fish extender organizer - we hope you'll join in on the fun :dance3:

Unfortunately, Steven41782 jumped ship :sad1: and is visiting WDW instead. Happy to hear that you love DL...we had APs also for a couple of years but it got just too pricey for us, that and the price of gas has made us reduce our trips to CA. Going from 4-5 trips/year to maybe one has not gone over well in my house :headache: Sounds like you live in CA?

Hi Brooklyn & Sorcerer Mom:

Thanks for the links! I have no problem doing more then one night! Just let me know and I'll get going on goodies!!! We have 2 Staterooms they are 6089 & 6090. The teens are in the inside cabin. We did ajoining last year and realized we spent a lot of money for a bed, a closet & a shower for them. DH really enjoyed the veranda so we went down a deck and got the inside for them. I guess I need two extenders :scared: I'll have to find the sewing machinie :rotfl2:

I have no preference on days as far as the gifting. Just let me know and hopefully we can find more folks to join our fun. Otherwise it will just be us three musketeers:thumbsup2

Hi Secretkeeper....what'd you decide to do for your fish extenders? I would offer you my sewing machine but I'd have to find it under several layers of dust :lmao: There was a thread on the forum about fish extenders and they had some good no-sew ideas....using cute canvas bags they decorated.

DD has is registering for your college class for next year this afternoon...gulp! OMG, reality is really setting in :scared1:

hey...

just wondering if some of the other teens wanted to meet before the cruise via facebook, e-mail, aim, or myspace. :surfweb: i've always done this before cruises and it made it so much better once on the boat to know people already!

let me know and i can personal-message you my info, and we can get this party started before the party starts!

I'd love for my brother to get to know people before the cruise...he's kinda bummer that he's two weeks shy of 18 and can't hang out with the adults all the time so I'm sure that any of the friends he can make before the trip would be helpful.

I totally understand about the price...its crazy! I grew up in CA but now live in MD. My family is coming from CA and his from MD so it should be a LOT of fun since we don't get to spend much time together being so far apart.

Currently, I'm trying to convince my husband to wear his Army dress uniform for the formal night (I heard some talk about that on here) and it seems just as challenging as getting some husbands to wear ties....I think I'm winning him over though!

We're really looking forward to the time off and all the excursions. My family will be doing lots of beach excursions and we'll be doing the adventure stuff. What time is everyone doing the zipline in PV?

Since bottled water isnt free on the ship and its going to be hot I decided to come up with a cheaper way to drink filtered water. So we decided to buy water bottles that filter the water as you drink. We got them in the mail this week and tried them out and they work great. One of the reviews says it leaks but we haven't had any problem. The water tastes great also. So I wanted to pass our find along to you. FYI these were the cheapest ones we could find online. I couldn't find replacement filters but I think that once you've filtered the 75 gallons of water it claims to be able to filter the bottle might need to be replaced anyways so its not that big of a deal. Anyways, heres the link:

http://kitchen-dining.hsn.com/fit-fresh-liv-pure-set-of-2-water-filter-bottles_p-4104440_xp.aspx?web_id=4104440&ocm=sekw

We were also able to get 15% off our first purchase with HSN and the coupon code for that is C56574.

Okay you've talked me into it...you can count us in (3 rooms probably, but I'll have to confirm that and we don't have the numbers yet) on the fish extenders. I'm making both sets of parents a gift bag for mothers/fathers day of things they can use for the cruise and I'll make them a fish extender and put it in their too. I ordered the fabric last night (online shopping is great!) so hopefully I'll be able to pull it together in time! Either way though we'll participate! I think that will make it so much fun for the whole family and something not everyone is doing...for the record my husband thinks Im silly but is going along for the ride.

My husband though this whole DIS was NUTS before our last cruise. We booked the 14 Night Trans-Atlantic 6 days before the cruise left! I had been on the DIS before about DL but never the cruise boards. Everyone on here was SOOOOO amazing. They helped me so much. So just think, we had over 100 cabins and I had 6 days to get packed, passports, finish DD's school (we missed the last 2 weeks of the school year to be on the cruise) and make 100+ FE gifts. :laundy: My husband totally tought I was crazy! He loves the whole idea fo the DIS now. He could not believe how nice everyone was. It was like cruising with 300+ of your closest friends.

Anyway, I know exactly where you are coming from! My husband thought I was CRAZY. :lmao:

We're early seating, but Im not sure what rotation we're on. Is there a particular rotation that is better?

PLLAPLA I think is the best. That puts you in Lumiere's on Formal Night and Parrot Cay on Pirates Night. That is what we are hoping for.

We are late seating though. We did early last time. It was ok but I felt rushed to get to every show. We are trying something new this time.

The PLLAPLA seatings are at 6:30 and 8:30. That is the only drawback. I wish it was at 8:00 instead of 8:30.

Hi Everyone!
I was roaming the Cruise Critic Site for a roll call for this cruise, couldn't find it and then saw a link fo disboards and voila! Here you all are! For a minute I thought I was the only one going - haha!

So....just booked yesterday on a spur of the moment kind of thing! :cheer2:

It will be 4 adults (Mom, me, sister, bil, @ nieces 7 & 4 and my son, 6)
DH is staying home with the dog this time.
Mom & 1 niece coming in from Hawaii, Sister & Family from Northern Cal., and we live about 20 minutes or so from the pier!

Now...this looks like a pretty active board so....I got questions and I know someone out there must have answers!

This is our 1st Disney Cruise. We (immediate family) have done 5 cruises prior with the most recent 2 1/2 weeks ago with RCCL and this same itinerary.
For the others, this is their 2nd cruise and my Mom's 4th.

What time can we board the ship?
When will I get my documents?
Is this the San Pedro Port or the Long Beach Port?
What is a fish extender? Saw pictures but still...are the pockets zippered or shut in some way or just open?
How and with what do you decorate your doors?
What should we be sure NOT to miss?
Any secrets on the Magic anyone willing to share?

I'm sure I'll have more questions but it's a start :goodvibes

Thanks All!

Thanks Im going to see if we can get that seating but for early (I dont know if I could stay awake for the late seating :goodvibes ). Do they do different activities in the different rooms each night? Last time I was so tired from wedding planning I think I completely missed details like that!

Welcome!! More people on the cruise is great!!! I just discovered the board yesterday so Im busy getting my questions answered too

What time can we board the ship? I have NO idea but thats a great question. I think we're aiming to be there around noon so my parents can see the ship (they've never been), my DMIL can get used to the boat (shes not a big fan) and I can secretly decorate their door :thumbsup2

When will I get my documents? We have all received them already so Im sure since you just booked you should get them right away. You can also go online if you have your reservation number and book. Careful its trickly to book underage kids for excursions sometimes (we had lots of difficulty as the website stinks and the help desk can't book things for you, its all online or the day of the cruise) so if you have any trouble just let me know.

Is this the San Pedro Port or the Long Beach Port?
San Pedro I believe.

What is a fish extender? Saw pictures but still...are the pockets zippered or
shut in some way or just open?
I think they are open...thats how Im making mine at least.

How and with what do you decorate your doors?
Magnets (no tape allowed), you can buy them or make them. I'm taking a stab at making all of ours....could be interesting.

What should we be sure NOT to miss?
Most people recommend PALO but I don't know if kids are allowed. The shows are night are amazing! We made sure never to miss them. We enjoyed them so much we even did behind the scenes tours.

Any secrets on the Magic anyone willing to share?

:cheer2: :welcome: Welcome Aboard!!!!!!

We are so happy to have you joining us!

You will LOVE the Disney Cruise. It is awesome!!!

Boarding starts around 11:45. Check in begins around 10:00 or so. WHen you check in you are given a boarding card. That card has a number 1 through like 12. The eralier you check in the better number you get and the sooner you get onboard.

Long Beach

There is a Fish outside each stateroom. It is where DCL leaves notes and such. The DIS boards started a tradition where you have a "fish extender". The pockets are usually open. We use them to leave gifts/surprises in them.

If you would like to get involved in the gift exchange just let me know. We would love to have you. The gift exchange is SOOOOO much fun!!!

You can only decorate your doors using magnets. Anything you can attach a magnet to you can put on your door. I LOVE to decorate our doors. I am a little magnet crazy!!!

You def do not want to miss the sail away party, the pirate party & fireworks(late on pirate night), the midnight dessert buffet, and so much more!!!

Dining on Disney is different then other cruise lines. Instead of dining in one restaurant each night you rotate through 3 different ones. Each one has a special theme night. Those nights are so fun especially at Animators Palate where the restuarant turns from black and white to full color, awesome!!! The other night will be reserved for Formal, Semi-Formal, Pirate, and "Till We Meet Again" As earlier posted a good rotation to ask for is PLLAPLA. That puts you in Lumieres (the most formal) on Formal night and Parrat Cay on Pirate night.

Do you have early or late seating for dinner?

Thanks Im going to see if we can get that seating but for early (I dont know if I could stay awake for the late seating :goodvibes ). Yes there each restauant has a special theme night. It will only happen once though at each. The rest of the nights will be themed according to a specific night like pirates.

Here's the answer to when you can board (this is for FL but I would imagine its about the same in CA):
"The more time you can spend on the ship, the more value you get for your dollar. We wanted to get to the port as close to 10:30 am as possible. Now, why would we want to get there so early? The ship doesn't even leave until 5:00 pm!"

BTW you can fill out almost all your paperwork online now which will save you time on the ship, especially with little ones that really, REALLY want to get on the ship and start having fun. I just completed ours :) its almost here! (50 days!!)

Oh boy is it really out of long beach?? I booked my rental car into the LA harbor and my in-laws booked their hotel near it too. Thanks for letting me know. Clearly I need to read closer. Looks like I'll be busy re-booking stuff next week! :headache:

Okay - read about restaurant rotation and it sounds like fun! How do I go about requesting this dining room rotation? Do I call or can I email or how does it work?
Also, I may be interested in doing the Fish Extender ~ let me see what I can come up with first. Don't want to commit and then let people down. I would say there's a real GOOD chance I will join. Now...if I can just find the time to make one!:thumbsup2

Just call them. They will place it in your request. Do you have main or late dinning?

The gifts are easy....some people go all out and some just do something simple. Oriental trading is a great place to get "stuff" for it. Just let me know what you decide. I have an extra one if you need it. Someone gave me 2 on our last cruise bc I did not know how to make one. This cruise we only have 1 room so no need for 2 of them. :thumbsup2

:wave2: Welcome AirTita!!! :yay: :yay: So glad that you've joined the cruise!!!

This will be our first DC as well. Everyone on these boards are so helpful with answering questions - you'll love it and we've got a great group going on our thread

I had read that the Magic will depart at 4pm instead of the normal 5pm so I wonder if we'll be able to board earlier??? I guess we may have to wait to the first Mex. Riv. cruise comes back to find out :confused3

Hey you guys, you said you received your cruise docs? Are they the docs with the luggage tags etc.? If so, I did not get mine yet...what's up with that? :scared: I know they'll come to my TA but she's pretty quick about sending me the stuff 'cause she knows I'm jumpin out of my skin with excitment about this cruise :yay: We don't have our cabin # yet, just a GTY, so maybe that's why we don't have anything? :confused3

Our fish extender has open pockets as well.

We'll be decorating our doors too and am going in search of Magnet Paper at Walmart this weekend, otherwise order on-line....Brooklyn, where do you get your paper from? I'm takin a stab at making some of ours but they will be no where near as nice as Brooklyn's...she truly is the master of door magnets  There are some folks on the Forum threads that may be able to help make you some too...like I said, everyone on these boards are great :disrocks:

Ditto what Brooklyn said about Palo...we have dinner reservations but are looking to change to Brunch 'cause we want to experience all the dinner menus with our kiddos since it's our first DC. Palo is just for adults, 18 & older. You can also go to the Palo bar for a cocktail without having a reservation for dinner. The pics look so romantic in the evening so my DH and I are looking forward to a sunset cocktail or two  I have also heard wonderful things about the shows on board and they are not to be missed, especially the Golden Mickeys.

We have requested late seating, 8:30p...we're not early eaters but I'm sure will need a nap to avoid falling asleep at the table :faint:

Have you thought about excursions yet?

Again, :welcome:

See...this where I'm a little confused.:confused3 There are 2 ports; the port of Long Beach and the port of Los Angeles. Long Beach Port is in Long Beach where the Queen Mary is and where Carnival departs. Los Angeles Port is in San Pedro where Royal Caribbean departs.
If you have your documents, does it have the exact name of the port or an address? The ports are about 20-25 minutes from each other; over a bridge. Makes a difference as we just came back from RCCL's Vision 2 weeks ago and initially went to the Long Beach pier instead of the Los Angeles pier so we got on board an hour later than I wanted to:confused3 :rolleyes1

Great! Will give DCL a call and ask for this rotation. We have late seating but are on the waitlist for the early one. If we get it, great! If not, it's okay too. We've 7 in our party so it's a long shot I guess

We have 2 rooms so thank you so much for your offer but I think I will try to convince my sister to join the Fish Extender. She's pretty crafty so you never know! I may be able to get her to make 2!

So glad the ship is going out of San Pedro. In my opinion, easier to get to and not as crowded though one never knows. Earlier when we did the Vision and went to Long Beach first, it was a mad house with Carnival people. San Pedro, where we finally made it to, was calmer with only RCCL. Since they both depart on Sunday, it will be interesting to see the difference.
FYI - had a bad experience with one of the porters in SP. Since we drove to the pier, I "overpacked" thinking I didn't have to worry about airline weight, etc. DH went to park the car and I was going to take care of the baggage. A porter came up to me, saw my bumper sticker and said "Oh you must be locals" - I agreed. When he went to pick up my luggage, he dropped it and said "There's a 50 lb. limit you know" - I replied that this wasn't an airline and there was no limit. He insisted there was and said he was going to have to charge me extra if I wanted to get it on the ship. He was dead serious and I was shocked, told him no thanks, dragged the 4 bags (and my 6 yo son) myself to the check in and then found out, I was right and there is not a weight limit. Be wary of "land based sharks and pirates" ~ I didn't get his name or badge # or I would have turned him in!

If you dont have time to make one people just put a tote bag or paper bag over their fish. I have a lot of plain white paper ones if you want some and the kids want to bring markers/stickers they can decorate them. Let me know if youd like me to bring some for you.

If you dont have time to make one people just put a tote bag or paper bag over their fish. I have a lot of plain white paper ones if you want some and the kids want to bring markers/stickers they can decorate them. Let me know if youd like me to bring some for you.

I love your enthusiasm about the fish extenders!!!!!

THIS IS SO CUTE! Are you kidding, she'd love it...remember she's the one that wants to dress like Cinderella ;) Her full name is Alixandre Fanizzi and thank you for offerring to do that....:cutie:

Okay, where is Secretkeeper today??? Are you working Secretkeeper?...'cause Lord know I should be but this is much more fun :goodvibes

OK I'm lame. I've had a really busy week and once I get home I usually can't get near the computer. That's why I'm doing this at work :rotfl: The certs a terrific! Kaitlyn who is also graduating H.S. would love it. She loves anything Disney. She also loves scrapbooking and this would be a great keepsake!

My DS 14 is in the US Naval Sea Cadets and he is planning on wearing his dress whites for formal night. He is so proud of his uniform he was insulted when I told him I was planning on getting him a new suit. He's grown 4 inches since our last cruise and his suit which was big 14 months ago is really short now. So there's a little extra savings for pictures on board!!!

I'm still frustrated over the picture posting but will work on it this weekend!

We booked dolphins for Cabo. However I'll talk to DH. He might like this better because DS 4 has to do the separate Dolphin encounter because he misses Disney's cut off by one week.

You both can add me to the list who's DH thinks I'm off my rocker. He won't even look at the DIS Boards...work is crazy for him so I'm giving him a little slack and chalking it up to just being cranky. He is not a Disney freak like me and the kids are. He enjoys it once he's there but he just thinks we go waaayyyy overboard....wait'll he sees the goofy pirate ears I've for him to sport on Pirate night :rotfl2:

Ok I'm making up for my absences the last few days with all the replies. DH and family thought I had lost my mind over my Dis Board additiction but once we got onboard they were blown away by how smooth everything went. Now when I'm asked a cruise related question and heaven forbid don't know the immediate answer they are all amazed and suggest I get on the boards immediately and find out!

The place seems awesome and a great price. I have read a lot of great things about it on the DIS boards. My DD 3 would be the one who would miss it the most. We had to book through this place bc of the same reason as you.

Welcome AIRTITA & djdj456- It is great to have some new additions! If you haven't bought one get the book Passperters Guide to the Disney Cruise it will answer tons of questions. We had late dinner seating last year and it worked well because of coming from the west coast. We have early this time and I'm really concerned we won't like it as much. We tend to eat later here anyway so I may request a change to the late seating.

We also will be at port early! I want to get the most experience for my $ :rotfl: . However from what I hear it just doesn't hold a candle to Port Canaveral. No Mickey Ears to walk through, no ships model. Oh well at least the most important things will be there. The Magic, us and my Dis friends!

We live 15 miles east of San Diego and it is supposed to get into th 90's this weekend. DH has the solar on so hopefully the pool will be warm enough for DS4 & I to get in. I told him after lunch and he keeps asking for me to just make it so we can get in :) Have a great day.

It is supposed to be 95 at Universal Studios! :scared1: The girls are so happy! I turned the pool heater on today so tomorrow we can go swimming. I am a bit of a wimp. I only like warm water!!!

Oh fun. Are your friends children with Jet Set? That is the big agency down in SD.

Thanks for the good wishes for the audition. Not even sure exactly what it is for....all it said was ABC Promo. Who knows? :confused3

Sorcerer Mom - Yes it is so fun shopping for the Fish Extender Gifts!!!! It is so fun! I also wanted to ask if you requested seating alone or requested tablemates for dinner? I started this threat last night.... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=24737595&posted=1#post24737595 I am worried with it being so late that i do not want tablemates that show up any later nad delay our dinner. Good Morning ~ Weather is BEAUTIFUL here in the South Bay of Los Angeles! Heading out to son's T-ball game but wanted to know...
does anyone have dimensions of a fish extender? How much fabric and (looks like) hem tape should I buy and what is a fabric stiffener and how does it work? I'm assuming it goes on the inside of the fabric.
And...I would love to join the fish extender group but need to know, what kind of goodies should I be looking for and how many?

Thanks to all ~ going to try and find the passporter at B&N or Borders.

Let me know how many are participating so I can make sure I have enough for all.
I'll also get my sister to participate since they're in another cabin.

Thanks for the links on Fish Extenders~ I've printed some photo's, the directions so at least I should be able to figure it out. It may not be pretty as the photo's but definitely doable.

Thanks!:thumbsup2

 Yeah! I am so happy you will be joining us in the Fish Extender Gifts!!

Not including your party these are the #'s so far...
7 Staterooms
17 People (9 of which are kids)

Some people do one bigger gift for the stateroom, some do a gift for the adults in a room and something different for the kids, some people do something for each person. It is all up to you. No rules at all!

I am creating a roster to send to everyone. I am hoping to send it to everyone at about a month out. It would be nice to have our list grow some more!!! In just the past few days we went from 4 staterooms to 7 and now you guys!!!

Can you please PM me the people's names in each stateroom and the children's ages. Also let me know if you would like to do gifts on the same night as your sister or different and if there is a night in particular that you would like to do.

THANKS!!!!

If it's okay, I'm making 3 fish extenders; one for each child so one stateroom will have 2 fish extenders. Do you think that will be okay?
Don't know what PM stands for but there are 4 adults & 3 kids (2 girls; 1 is almost 8 and a 4 year old and 1 boy who is 6). I'll email you the other info.
My mom will participate as well so we'll have 9 staterooms participating but 10 "families". It doesn't matter to me; I kinda like the idea of "surprises" but am willing to do whatever everyone else wants to do. My son loves pirates pirate: but I think someone else also likes them. Since there are more people involved, there may be some overlap.
Let me know what PM stands for and I'll send you names and ages. We don't have our staterooms yet; they're on GTY. Then however everyone wants to handle the "pixie dust" is fine with me.:cutie:

BTW - My bookstores didn't have the Passporter so I ordered it. Did buy the Birnbaum Guide to Disney Cruises - not very good.

Sorry for all the "smilies" but my son is "helping" me and is fascinated by the movement of them!:rotfl: .

PM stands for Private Message. You can just click on my screen name and it has the option to send a private message.

You can usually people assign a different pocket on each extender for a different person. There is only 1 fish outside your room so it might be harder to hang 2. It is worth a try though!

Our FE has 4 pockets. I am going to make iron on transfers for each pocket with each persons name. I will post them once I make them.

Do you want two different nights assigned for each stateroom? Or three nights for each different family? Or just one night from all three of your families? Either way works, just let me know.

You can also do pirate night if that is what you want. It looks like we will be doubling up the days! More gifts, more fun!

I love the smiley's, keep them coming! :thumbsup2 DD is facinated with them too. She LOVES the dancing banana!

Yes, we have 2 rooms. My husband can't join us so it will be me, my mom, my son and my niece in a Cat 4 and my sister, her husband and her daughter in another room.

Maybe I can hang on on the fish and get a magnet holder and hang the other on our door. Do you think that would work? Or maybe on the door, I'll figure it out. We've got 5 pockets because in asian societies, the #4 is bad luck. Old wives tale I know!

I don't think I'll be assigning names on the pockets but it will be pretty easy to figure out. Our room will have a princess and a pirate theme and the other room will have a princess theme.

Sorry for the confusion I didnt realize there were two different sets of paperwork we were talking about. I thought you were asking about the basic info about the cruise which we have already recieved but the final stuff hasn't come out yet and not sure when it will.

I would think the magnets might not hold them FE if something heavier is inside. However, you might use of the door hangers (like you use to hang a shoe holder) and put it on that. Just an idea :)

Hi ~ no worries djdj456; got it figured out that it's San Pedro Port. I actually like that port better than Long Beach; not as crowded.

I'll look into a door hanger. Would I put it over our stateroom door and would it fit/close okay?

Worse case scenario is I'll have (2) FE's on the one fish; or try and stagger it someway or even alternate them daily or hang one on the door handle.

We were in Mexico the 2nd week of April and it was hot so I can only think it will be hotter in June!

I like the sun but not the heat and humidity. Where we live it rarely gets this hot this early in the year. We get great sun but there's usually an ocean breeze which makes it bearable.:beach:

Busy week ~ our big PTA Family Event is this weekend and I'm the PTA president and in charge of the silent auction so there's a lot to do in addition to normal day to day stuff.:cheer2:

This may have been asked but anyone confirmed on shore excursions? We've don Cabo Dolphins and I know you can book directly through their website. I've also heard Mazatlan Mike does private tours and has gotten great reviews.

Thanks again for all the help....should be doing carnival stuff and household stuff but may just push it to the side and start assembling the FE's. See what you all have started ?!?!:woohoo:

oh no! I can't do the cold weather anymore! I am so spoiled being in SoCal for so long!!!!!

I am worried Mexico will be too cold for me compared to what I am used to. We do not get as hot as Vegas but we def get up over the 100's!!!

haha and I'm worried it will be too hot although I'm hoping the breeze on the water will cool us down. I grew up in SoCal so I'm used to warm weather but being on the east coast for several years now Im getting used to the cold. When we went on our cruise last year we left for the Carribean in Feb and it was 0 degrees and when we came home there was a HUGE snow storm and it was below zero. Made me happy to be out of town for a week though!

Hi ~ no worries djdj456; got it figured out that it's San Pedro Port. I actually like that port better than Long Beach; not as crowded.

Fantastic!! :cool1:

Im not sure, but when I was looking at pictures I think someone else tried it and it worked.

Good luck with everything. I have a big event I'm working on too so I totally understand the pressure. Hope it goes well!!

Were confirmed. My DH and DFIL are doing power snorkeling in Cabo and my family is doing a beach excursion and snorkeling. My DMIL and I are going to relax and shop and relax :) For Matazatlan were doing some off road car ride thing and my family is shopping. For PV most of us are doing the zip line  and the rest are doing another beach excursion.

Im looking forward to my fabric coming in so I can start our FE. Im hoping to work on magnets tonight if I can ever get through emails.

You could just hang 2 FE on the fish. They can just be side by side.

I know, it is crazy! I have been making more magnets for people the past few days I have not gotten anything else done! Oh well, I love it!

djdj456 - Did you DH decide if he was going to wear his uniform on Formal Night???

Are there any families out there that are going to get all dressed up for pirate night??? I got adorable outfits for our DD's. I am just not sure about DH and I.

Cabo - Family Beach Excursion. I am a little disappointed that you can't go in the ocean but it seems like it will still be fun with the pools, waterslides, etc...

Mazatlan - Zip Line and end with Tequilla factory tour/tasting

Puerto Vallarta - Sea Life Park to swim with Dolphins. It is like a mini water park and also has the dolphin option. Much cheaper then through Disney.

For the magnet paper you got at the scrapbooking store, is there a name of it? Also, did you say its okay to work with your printer? I told my husband about it and he was worried I might hurt the printer so I thought Id look into it more before purchasing it.

Yes my DH is going to wear his uniform.

I don't think we'll be dressing up for the event but I look forward to seeing others dressed up :)

I do not use magnetic paper. I use my xyron machine for scrapbooking. It might be cheaper to use magnetic paper but I like the finished product better this way. The magnetic paper is thin and no it till not mess up your printer.

If you have a friend that scrapbooks see if they have a xyron machine (if you do not). Then go to Joann's or Michaels with a 40% off coupon (assuming you have those stores) and buy a cartridge for it Laminate/Magnet. You can just print the pictures at home on whatever paper. I use somewhat of a glossy paper. Then you can run the pictures through the xyron machine. With the coupon a cartridge will cost you $15. The cartridge is 10 feet. 1 will be more then enough to make all of your magnets. Maybe 2 if you are making them for all 3 staterooms.

Cool on the uniform, DH won't feel so alone! :thumbsup2 :rotfl:
