As of January the 7th it will be renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios and the logo will change. It will no longer include the Metro Goldwyn Meyer Lion, just Mick'es top half with the clapper board.....
Am I being really slow here? Has this been posted before *** I didn't see it if it was, and I'm thoroughly bemused!!!

I think it was posted here a few months ago about the name and logo change. I've certainly known about it for a while.

You've perhaps not seen it if you haven't been on the Boards in a little while.

I'm sure when we were on the bus from the parking lot recently, they referred to it as Disney Studios and not MGM.

Have MGM been totally pushed out the picture then? Is it just simply a name change or will there be changes inside the park? :confused3
Are rides such as Star Tours and Tower of Terror under lincence by MGM? Would be a shame if they lost any of the attractions as they are all great! :cool1:

I found an article a few month back that explained Disney's use of the MGM name but can't find it now.
Have a read of Wiki in link below then scroll down to MGM affiliation and litigation, does not explain it as well as the other page I was reading.

We where talking to a cm in October at MGM and he said that if you have any merchandise with the MGM logo on it will be worth a pretty penny so keep all you bits and bobs , he also said that all the rides that belong to MGM will be replaced lots of new rides coming to the park a lot to do with pixar .

Oh I think that is a shame, it will always be MGM for me!
Although I am sure that the last time we went they were calling it Disney Studios and that was 2004.

We have Cast member friends who have always referred to MGM as The Studios as long as we have known them, never heard them call it MGM.
i have worked at MGM for 2 summer seasons and this was confirmed to us around the same time it was published to the public (i think around july time).
What i can say is no rides will be closing, however, 2008 will be a great year for the studios. A brand new toy story ride, pixars block party bash from california replacing the stars and motor cars parade and finally a new show for the ABC theatre.
Questions were raised about things such as the mgm movie scenes in the great movie ride but they are staying put, unless the ride is updated any time soon.
Also in the future 2009+... now this is CM gossip and rumors so take it for what its worth: new star tours ride replacing the old one. It is litterally falling apart! (from my star tours friend)
My tram tour friend said they are gonna wait until Pixar Place (old mickey avenue) and the new Toy Story Mania opens to see if it brings more traffic to the tram tour. if not then it might close and then that gives so much land for them to expand the park.
ps... remember im not saying this is all true, just some gossip!
also... the busses have been saying a variety of disney/mgm, disney-mgm studios and disney studios in the past.
and... cast members have always been given the option to call mgm 'The Studios' if they wish, long before this year.
