My group of four dined on November 11 at Cape May Cafe, which had been one of our favorite Disney restaurants on previous trips. However, the restaurant will no longer be on our itinerary on future trips, due to the serious decline in variety and quality of the buffet offerings.

The buffet has been reduced in size by half, with an even more extensive reduction in the variety of dishes offered. For what is supposed to be a "clam bake" experience, the seafood dishes were sparse, poorly prepared and embarrassing. Well over half of the clams and mussels I served to myself were empty. The only other seafood offering was bland and overcooked baked salmon. Half of one side of the four-sided buffet was taken up by tired looking pizzas, which had formerly appeared only on the children's buffet section. Salad selections have been reduced, as have side dishes and other offerings. The only dish that I actually enjoyed was the rich clam chowder.

Of course, Disney failed to reduce prices to reflect the reduction in quality of the restaurant.

Shame that you had such a negative experience at what was clearly a favourite restaurant of yours.

Cape May has always been a favorite of ours but when we went last month we decided it wasnt the greatest. We had ressies at 5:30 and noticed the servers setting food out at 5...when we were seated DH went to get the clams which were ice cold. Most of the items were cold. The no longer have the beef tips with mushrooms which was a fav of mine, the cornbread is on the hot plate now so it is very dried out, the cookies are next to the bread now instead of on the dessert table. DId not notice a reduction of salads but the quality of the food has gone way down. We will be skipping it on our next trips.

Although I enjoyed CMC this time, we also remember it being "not as good" as last time. I just thought maybe it had been so long that I couldn't really remember, but DH added that he really wouldn't want it to be on our dining list again. :confused3

We ate dinner there in May of 2005 and, except for the pizzas, I could have written your exact review, down to the mostly empty clam shells! The seafood of the day was a fried fish that was pretty good, but they would put out a skillet with maybe 6 servings at a time, so I had to go back three times before I got a piece. But I loved their clam chowder.
