if I booked through Travelocity....I keep reading about people being able to "see" how full the flight is etc. and was wondering if I can do this too.

Thank you.

I know American Express Travel allows you to view seat diagrams without logging in. You select the flights you want and when the total comes up, there is a prompt for "select seats". Remember that there can be more open seats than are on the diagram, they hold back some seats for airport check-in.

I go to the OUR FLEET part of the airlines web site to view the planes lay out and pick my seats.

Why oh why are the airlines still showing how full a plane is? I mean, hello, that is one of the reasons that the terrorists picked the flights they did. Personally, I am all for not knowing my assigned seats until I check in for a flight. Therefore, a potential terrorist cannot pick a seat right on the wing (above the fuel tanks).

Actually, there doesn't seem to be much common sense in dealing with the thrat of terrorism. I still don't understand how matching luggage with the passengers to make sure the owner of each bag is on the plane will help. Last I remember, the terrorists were sucidal and didn't mind dying to make sure they took down the planes. So would they really care if they were on the plane, along with a bomb in their suitcases?!

Most of the programs that let you see availability are not in real time. I would call the airline if you are concerned about the number of seats left. Or you can book online and then call the airline to see if they have something better.
