After looking at MANY DCL reviews, my husband is afraid that there will not be "generous" amounts of food that cruises USE to be know for. He even read one posting that said DCL was the only cruise that you left hungry! You have always heard that you could order as much as you wanted on other cruises, (one lobster dinner, one prime rib) . Is that possible on DCL? Any advice/truths????

We went cruising looking forward to eating, and we were not disappointed! My DH would order 2 entrees many nights and we usually ordered 3 appetizers between the 2 of us. Never a problem. Many times our server would just bring out food for us to try....I wouldn't worry about going home hungry!! The pounds I put on will attest to that!

I don't know who went hungry on DCL, but they obviously didn't realize that food is available in abundance at all times!!
At dinner, you can have as much as you want and either order multiples of an entree, appetizer, or whatever, or else try various different ones. Back when they had lobster at Parrot Cay, hubby used to embarrass me by ordering three tails! Inbetween the main meals, room service is available 24 hours a day--I have the menu on my website at www.*****************
There are also nightly snacks, and the fast food outlets have long hours. Any time you want food, it is available somewhere!

Though I do have to say, one thing I really liked about DCL is that the portion sizes are very reasonable. We could sit down and order a dinner, appetizer, entree and dessert and not feel completely utterly stuffed at the end. I really HATE the fact that most restaurants serve such HUGE portion sizes. To me it's a big waste of food and I always feel like I should eat it if it is in front of me and generally end up eating too much. I'd MUCH rather just have a normal portion size of something and eat what is on my plate and be done with it.
When we told people that we went on a cruise everyone's first reaction was "wow, a cruise, you must've spent the whole week eating!" In reality, we didn't feel like we spent the entire week overeating. The food is there and available but it's not in your face all the time like I have heard described on other cruise lines (my parents have been on a few cruises and all they could talk about were the numerous buffets set up). Maybe we didn't get the full cruise experience because we missed the dessert buffet on the Magic (but that night we had had souffle at palos, who needs more dessert after that?)
Disney DOES however let you order as much of anything as you want. I think this is much better than forcing huge portions on anyone... people who are bigger eaters can order as much of whatever they want. I agree that if anyone goes hungry it is not for lack of availablity of food on the ship. The food was also pretty good, too!

There may not be as many dinner "courses" or quite as much variety on the menus on DCL, but you can order as much as you want of all that is available, and it is PLENTY!

While I felt there was much less variety on DCL than on the previous cruise line we had gone on, I definitely didnt go hungry. ;)

My family went on its first Disney Cruise last July. While ordering at Animators Palate, I mentioned to the waiter that I couldn't decide between two of the entrees. He said, "No problem, I'll bring you both of them." I couldn't argue with that.

My hubby had at least two entrees every night, sometimes three! They also brought us extra appetizers and desserts. While I think they are lacking in variety of food served between meals, you will never go hungry.
You can read my trip report and check out some pictures of hubby with his three entrees :) He is a HUGE eater and his only complaint was that the fruit bar at Scoops wasn't open after 5 pm.
Just follow link below for my trip report.

There was a man at the table I was assigned to on the Magic last year who as an appetizer to his appetizer started every dinner with a piled-high plate of green onions and a piled-high plate of huge shrimp. (He was kinda on the huge side.)
You won't starve.

If you're looking for a nightly midnight buffet, with all type of food in that line, you're not going to find it. One night you will get a desert buffet and another night a fruit buffet. Portions were reasonable. My favorites were the deserts after dinner. You will be able to eat what you want. My future SIL has Celiac disease and every nite they had a plate of wheat-free, gluten-free rolls as well as gluten-free, wheat-free pasta. That is ALL she would eat for dinner. DB25 would only eat fish and potato. You have a request - ask - they'll at your mercy.
BTW, I was pleased to find I had only gained 3.2 lbs. and gave in to each craving. I just didn't heap any plate I ate from.

I found room service to be wonderful for late night cravings. I ordered pizza or a cheesburger around midnight. There is nothing like be waited on.
