I know it's a long way off but, as with all our holidays, we're very excited.

I'm going on the 3 day Wonder cruise with my partner. Also going is my big sister, her DH, DS 16 and DD 19. My middle sister, her DH, their DS1 21, DS2 8 and DD 4. My parents are also going so quite a few of us!!

Anyone else booked for that one or are we on our own?!

MSABOL01 >> Welcome onboard! Look forward to perhaps meeting you all.

It's not strictly true about only 3 cabins I'm afraid as my entire family are joining us!! There'll be 13 of us in total in 5 cabins, all with plenty of door signs for people to see.

Will you both be having fish extenders as well as door signs?

We decided to just take a peek at where you live .... seems Bucks County was named after a county in England called Buckinghamshire!

Never realised Pennsylvania was so close to New York either .. it's amazing what the internet can teach you! Looks a lovely place .. lots of nice snowy pictures.

We have very thick fog here at the moment so I keep looking at the trip reports and wishing the time away between now and our holiday in Sept.

We live right near Rochester, Kent which is where Charles Dickens lived and wrote. We have a Dickens Festival every year and thousands of people descend upon the town .. loads come from the US for it.

Anyway, I'm off to read more trip reports! :rolleyes1

Did you see anything good about where we live? We don't see much of the good stuff but we have some beautiful castles and stately homes in Kent. Try looking up Leeds Castle, Kent in google .. the most beautiful castle in the world and just down the road for us. It really is an awesome sight and Mick and I were luckily enough to take a hot air balloon flight over it last summer.

We also have Hever Castle about an hour away which is where Anne Boleyn lived as a child. There's a film just about to be released about Anne Boleyn and all of the filming was done in Kent .. we're so proud! (Can you tell?!)

We're 40 minutes from London but to be honest, we don't get there that often. We've been a few times in the past month though to watch Cirque du Soleil and Dirty Dancing ..which were both excellent.

What's your area like?

A-ha ... more of the same family!! I shall be looking out for all the door signs ... you had some excellent decorations on your hotel door so I'm expecting big things now!!

We've got a million and one signs and because of this blinkin' board, I keep doing more! Everyone has such good ideas don't they?

Nearly less than 200 sleeps to go.

I sure do hope you're a female as the thought of a guy in a bikini is disturbing!! :guilty:
I think it would be a great end to the challenge to see how many cocktails we can sink (I'll manage about 2 by the way .. pathetic).

DBF and I are going to NYC next month PLUS he is going to Disney with his family in July (without me :sad1: ) So it's kind of a hard sell. He says yes and I am hoping we get a good tax return and can use that as a deposit...we'll see. It helps that I am a TA and can get us a pretty good rate on the hotel.

It's tough when you're short of pennies (or cents). I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to be able to come along too.

I was telling my mum about others on this forum who were on our cruise (or potentially) and mentioned that you were from Up State NY .. she asked if you are near Monroe? Apparently in the 1800's, a relative of ours went to live in Monroe ... not sure if he's still there though!!

Here's hoping you manage to get onboard with us. :thumbsup2

Not last minute...but probably not till June:confused3 I would book it now but I am not sure that he's sure...plus since he is going to Disney in June (not sure if his family is paying, I think they are paying for all the "kids"). I have only been on once before but I am super excited!!

We're staying at a villa in Vizcay with another couple during our 'land' time. I find the convenience of having your own home much better than a hotel room. Our own pool and spa always helps too ... privacy while I'm sinking a few cocktails!!!

Bats, we are planning on Tuesday, Sept 30 for the MNSSHP. You are going all out on your costumes!

I've read somewhere else on this forum that not only do they have to be potty trained, but able to go to the toilet themselves, undress, clean (you know what I mean!) and dress again. Not sure how close your DD is to that.

If its any help, my sister trained her 3 children by using a noisy cooking timer. She set it for 15 mins, gave her children loads to drink and when the timer went off, pretended it was the all exciting time to use the potty. They'd have to go of course as she'd plied them with gallons of liquid. She then set the timer again, making it a few minutes longer each time and repeated the whole process for days on end.

Apparently it worked after about 1 week!! I have no children so have not had this problem thankfully. Best of luck :cheer2:

It's always strange to see British placenames with a state name after them! Our Colchester is Britains oldest town which has Roman forts (I think) and lots of Roman roads and archifacts (sp?). It's also a massive garrison town (Army) so there's alot of bad feeling amongst the local young men and the soldiers ... we don't have the same respect for our soldiers as you guys do .. mores the pity! :confused3

My step daughter and her partner live in Oxford, UK .. full of students and bikes apparently.

A fish extender is something disney cruise goers hang outside the cabin door on the fish shaped mail clip. Everyone that participates will bring a small gift for everyone on the list to put in the FE. The gifts should be small and are usually Disney-themed or something from your home town.

I'll try to post a pic of one i found on the thread listed above. This is also the one I'm planning on getting off ebay!!! :goodvibes

Wow, that is a great price! My sister is flying from Nashville to Houston in June and the cheapest ticket she found was $250 round trip.

Sorry, I can't help you with the hotel. We are doing the land/sea package so we will be leaving from Disney World.

I've heard that The Radisson is quite good and has a shuttle service to and from the actual Port.

Most recommend booking as early as possible as they don't take any money off your card until you arrive anyway. :)

We'll be driving straight down from Orlando so luckily do not need overnight accommodation.

Hi everyone!
I just booked this cruise as an anniversary trip for my DH and myself and am very excited :woohoo: This is the first time we are cruising without our 3 kids so we are going to try to cram in all the adult only activities that we have missed in the past! I just don't know how to break the news to the kids that we're going on DCL without them :rolleyes1

I have now purchased my MNSSHP tickets so watch out for 2 adults who should know better wearing inflatable horse costumes on the 30 Sept!! Even got Disney to post them to the UK for the princely sum of $3 .. bargain!!

We now have 136 days until we fly into Orlando and I'm busy trying to make my own Fish Extender for our little group. I've found a couple of things to give as pressies but it's very difficult getting appropriately small/light items.

Anyone else having trouble? :confused3

Just found my Post-It to make fish extender on Saturday. Don't laugh at mine when you see it. I can't sew! I have an idea for my gifts just waiting to see how many I will need and with the one piece of check-in luggage I will have to make sure I have room. I'd hate for my 3 yr old to have to carry-on an adult size back pack full of fish extender gifts!

I will be getting my MNSSHP tickets next month!!

Welcome to everyone!

I can't sew for toffee but I thought it would be more personal to make our own. I've cut our names out in felt so far!! :thumbsup2

What would people consider acceptable for each family .. 3 items? More or less? Does it have to be less than a certain price in total to keep everyone on track (I know I tend to go mad even if I don't have the money :rolleyes1)

Weather here in Kent is glorious right now .. makes me feel like I'm holiday (except I'm in the office .. )

Hi bats!

I'm thinking about doing 2 or 3 things per family. My DD loves the idea of "delivering" little things each day. I haven't yet sat down to think of the price or size of the items....guess it really depends on how many participants we have in the end. I'll try to keep everthing small so it's easy pack.

We usually rent and drive to the port when we have the kids with us, but this time it's just me & DH, so if we can get a good rate at the MCO Hyatt for the night before, we will do the DCL transfers. What's everyone up to this weekend then?
We're going to the Dickens weekend which is held in Rochester (next town along) .. Charles Dickens lived here and wrote some of his books here also ... the weekend sees lots of people dress up in Dickensian costumes, traders sell food/sweets of that era and generally it's an excuse to get out of your house and enjoy the party!
Not sure if anyone is interested in Dickens but I'll take a few photos (if I can get the camera to work) and post a few on here next week. ;)

I'm sure as the time gets closer and everyone finds out their room numbers we will be able to exchange room numbers and have a final head count for gifts.

If we have multiple people in our exchange with unassigned numbers - my idea will not work:confused3

Holly -

If it is not too much trouble...
If all us unassigned leave you our room numbers once on board in "your" fish extender, would you take the fish extender name list and add room numbers and then leave them in "our" fish extenders. We will then all have a current list on the cruise and we can go about passing out our gifts.

We booked a specific stateroom when we booked the cruise & we can see it when we log into our reservation on the DCL site. If you don't see an assigned room on your reservation yet, keep checking, though some people report not knowing the specific stateroom until checking in at the port! You will receive your cruise docs a few weeks before the cruise date, which should also list your stateroom.

Hi there,
My plan was to stay at the Hyatt & take DCL's transfers to the port in the morning, but then my DH decided he would rather drive ourselves so we are renting a car. Since we were renting a car, I started to look at other hotels - friends of ours had stayed at Rosen Shingle Creek and recommended it so we decided to stay there. (I also got an incredible!!! price for them on Hotwire). I'm glad you were able to change flights to come in the night before - it will be so much less stressful for you and you can start embarkation day well rested & ready to go! You'll have to let me know how the Hyatt is! Are you taking the DCL bus in the morning?

mimmiepnp

We will be taking the DCL bus in the morning.

Apparently upon check in at the Hyatt we are to advise the clerk at the desk that we are taking a DCL cruise in the moring and upon check out a DCL rep will come and get our luggae so all we have to do is check out and walk down stairs to get the bus and not have to worry about the luggage. The DCL rep advised taking the 10 or 11 o'clock bus to port so once check in at the port is complete, we don't have to wait too long to board ship at 1 o'clock ( or he said possibly 12:30 depending on what the ship captain allows).

The process could not be easier. Hopefully it is as smooth as they say!:)

i can't wait- i wish it were here now - the only downside is, once this trip gets here, then summer is over & it seems we waited so long for summer to arrive!

i know the docs say boarding doesn't start until 1:00, but we have never had boarding start past 11:45 - it has always begun between 11:30-11:45, so i hope that is the case again this time! keeping my fingers crossed...

Good to know so I will definately try to catch a bus to be there by 11 in order to get throught the process and then board the ship. I am soooo excited!:yay:

My DD and I are going for a short 4 day weekend over Labor Day before she starts school to WDW and staying for the first time at SSR (we are new DVC members) so I am hoping that trip will help me with my excitement and countdown to the DCL cruise with my DH since it is all that I can think about.........:)

I don't mind another one joining if nobody else does. Just means I'll go and get a few more pressies! Not sure if my sister would like to join or not as she hasn't really got alot of money. I may do a small FE list for our family (5 cabins) as well as this official one.

My FE is really not doing very well. It's bland, boring and dark coloured. Boring boring. I can see me starting this again or asking my sister to make me one!! :confused3

My sister is more interested in helping me spend my money on gifts. She didn't want to do it but had many ideas for me.

I made our spa reservations. Didn't get the exact treatment I wanted but I found something that sounded great. I also got my daughter registered for the Oceaneer's Club. Not sure she will go but she has the option.

 I am also going to my TA today and adding a one night post-cruise stay at Disney World!!!

My niece and nephew are now registered too.
I looked at the spa treatments/dinner ressies/shore excursions etc but have decided that this may be the only time we can go on a Disney cruise so we want to savour every minute of the ship. :thumbsup2

Will be looking at Ebay this afternoon to find some better material for my FE. Mine is so boring :sad2:

How do you think we should do the FE gifts? Perhaps some people deliver on one night, others the next night etc?

07-22-2008, 09:14 AM
My gifts aren't that exciting. Ok, I was excited to pick them out. I still have one more thing to get. I am waiting for a final count closer to cruise time.

You can't add a post-cruise night if you are on the land/sea package with the Disney Dining Plan. You have to drop the dining plan to add on a night. I don't know why except it is Disney policy. It was a little disappointing. So we signed up to do the Sting Ray Adventure on Castaway Cay.

Myself, DH, DS (8) and DD (7) will also be on the Wonder 3-5 October. This is our first cruise and we can't wait! We will be flying out from Gatwick on 25 September and staying at the POR for 7 nights then driving over to St Pete's for the last 4 nights after the cruise.

I may actually attempt to make my FE this weekend. My DD is going to spend the night with Grandma and Grandad this weekend. DD has already started packing for the trip. I found a handful of socks and a lot of toys in her suitcase. Getting really excited. DD and I also made a paper chain to count down the days. Yeah, that's really for me. She wasn't as interested in it as I was. I am going to try to make magnets too. I have been looking for magnetic paper. I thought I could do a birthday one for my sister.

Welcome Alycia! Happy anniversary!

2 of my 3 kids love the kid clubs! My youngest son had just turned 3 the last time we sailed and he didn't want to stay in without us there (he's my velcro kid - lol) - he had never been to daycare or preschool so wasn't used to being without us. In the past, we had sailed when my other son was 3 - he went right in and didn't have a problem (he was already attending preschool so was used to being without us). My youngest is starting preschool next month so I am hoping by the time his next cruise in January comes around, he will be ok staying in the club for a little bit. It really all depends on the child and their personality & comfort level. I have always felt very comfortable leaving the kids there. The CM's are great with kids - my oldest DD is always sorry to see the end of the cruise come and hopes to find the same CM's on the next cruise!

Well I thought my travel agent would contact me with my room number. I did not think about checking the cruise site. After reading a couple of posts I realized I could do this.

I have a room #!!!!

Catagory 10 (an upgrade!!!!!) #2571

Anyone ever stayed in this area of the ship? Not that it matters, we would be happy in any room as long as it is Disney! FT

Sorry I haven't been on the boards lately. I'm a teacher and between my classes starting, my children starting school, Labor Day and Gulf Hurricanes it has been crazy! All is well in Texas and I'm praying for smooth sailing on our cruise.

Ft

what part of texas are you from??? And...Congratulations on your upgrade!!!!! I'm beginning to think that we were the only ones that didn't get upgraded. :confused3 oh well...I'm just too excited that our cruise is getting so close!!

What are the chances of getting another upgrade if you already have one. :confused3 - We reserved a 12 and from what I could figure out we have a 10 now. Just wondering if they ever upgrade you again.

Greedy aren't we :P
I hope ILuvDisney get an upgrade too if there's any left.
Do they ever downgrade after upgrade? Was that the final assignment?

I live in Crosby, which is inbetween Beaumont and Houston. We are all keeping an eye on the gulf, since we will have another storm next week. I'm thankful for trip insurance since we have a double wammy booking our trip during hurricane season. My flights could be delayed in Houson or Orlando due to a hurricane. Of course I don't mind a delay in Orlando if it means I can squeeze an extra day in Disney. :worship:

We have a stateroom! 6143. We were hoping for an upgrade since it is our honeymoon and we paid for the REAS package, but no such luck...just a little bit of a bump up from a cat 12 to cat 11.

Does anyone know about how much extra it costs to upgrade to a room with a verandah, and if that is even possible to do at the time we are boarding. If we get enough gift money from our wedding to justify it, we may just pay to upgrade at the last minute...

It's getting soooo close, I can't wait!!!

Thanks TLPL and Imagoofy...i'm still hoping there's a chance for an upgrade. My TA said anything is possible when we arrive at port. I had emailed them to find out how much it would be to upgrade...and she said that it would be another $600 for a Cat 9 (from a 12). So, we passed. We'll hope for a little luck at check in!!!

dfsc - I know where Crosby is...I am originally from the Orange/Buna area. And, my sis just left the Magnolia area. It was getting way too populated for her. We are flying out of San Antonio. I hope you have good weather on travel day. Lets hope the hurricanes settle down now.

Marnm02 - Did you book w/ a TA or thru Disney? Just call and see how much an upgrade would be. I'm hoping there will still be something available when we arrive at port...but, we are coming in on the dcl buses. I doubt we'll get there early enough. Have a wonderful honeymoon!!!

Does anyone know if I can cancel the DCL transfers even tho we have already paid for them? I would rather get a town car service instead. But, of course I didn't read about those until after I had booked everything.

Have a great Sunday!!

Iluvdisney -

Thanks for keeping us posted on the FE exchange. I will take the third night as presented earlier in the posts. We are a small group, but we are organized!!! :cool1:

I'm glad everyone thought to post room occupants. I also would have assumed I was leaving goodies for children. As an adult who loves Disney, I'm glad to exchange FE goodies with others Disney fans.

Everything sounds good for the fish extenders! I think I'm going to try and send mine down early. I think I'll send it to our friend's house and then put a luggage tag on it like our suitcases.

I am just so excited!!!:cool1:

I made my Fish Extender this weekend! It looks more like a small slim book bag with a hard back. I only put one big pocket on it. I hung it up and put some canned food in it to make sure it would not fall apart. So far it hasn't!:cool1: I will deliver my gifts the first night.:yay:

Hopefully hurricane season will calm down a bit and everyone, everywhere can be safe and we will have smooth sailing.

Congratulations to everyone on their upgrades and here's to a little Disney magic for Iluvdisney and anyone else who haven't gotten an upgrade yet.

Gee, I didn't think about testing mine. My pockets aren't very big either. Oh well - If it falls apart I'll put a plastic bag on the hook.

Does everyone have early seating for dinner? We have the late seating.

Great! I like canned food.

We are early seating. You might want late seating with my child in the dining room. She isn't that good in restaurants.
