Hiya all -- We are at day 11 :) :) till departure - oh my goodness - we are getting so excited!!! can't wait to meet you all :) hope the flu bug steers clear from you all
I do have one question - do you think the Cast members will be passing out wipes as well as serving us on the buffett... years ago they were doing that for us - they did not allow anyone to touch the food ladels or drink station...

funny just herard on the news:
911 call:
Operator: 911 state your emergency
caller: someone is really drunk driving down Grantham Road
Operator: are you following them
caller: No I am them
Operator: You am them?
ehehehehe
- gotta love it --- thank goodness the operator was able to get more information and she pulled over and waited for police to arrest her! :scared1:

So, I just got word that our shirts were printed today :worship::woohoo::cheer2:! Now the bad news is that you will get them next week and it will add to your laundry loads. The good news is that you will get then next week!
I should have the shirts in my possession by Wednesday or Thursday -- it depends on a few factors like dry time, packing, etc.
I'll post a note as to when I ship them out to all of you (and will likely post before then too)!
It's getting close...and I'm not ready yet!

Boxes Sent the Ship Ahead of Cruise - PLEASE follow these instructions carefully!!!!!! UPDATED AS OF 2/25/2009
ONE box per stateroom, no exceptions.
The package must have the guest full name, ship, sailing date, stateroom number or GTY if you have not been assigned a stateroom number.
The package also must have a packing slip attached to the outside of the box that details the contents of the package. For prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient. Your list may or may not be read but it must have one. Write packing slip on the outside of the envelope.
NO FOODS/DRINKS OF ANY KIND, LIQUOR OF ANY KIND, FIREARMS, ETC.. Items that cannot be shipped to the Disney Cruise Line Warehouse and delivered to the ship include: food products (any and all food products including baby food/formula), beverages (liquor, water, etc.), chemicals, and luggage. These items will not be accepted at the warehouse and will be returned. This may cause the dogs to hit on your box and that would be a bad thing.
The required size of the cartons you are shipping down have to be about the size of a record storage box 12 inches on a side and should not weigh more than 20 lbs. (This has been asked personally by Dave Adams who is the owner)
Address your package(s) to:
Disney Cruise Line Warehouse
Guest Name / Stateroom # (GTY, if you don't know what it is when you send the package)
8633 Transport Drive
Orlando, FL 32832
Phone: 407-566-8196
In the bottom left corner of the top of the package put the following information: ATTN: HOUSEKEEPING
*Name
*Sail Date
*Ship
*Stateroom Number
*Packing slip that details contents of the package (for prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient)
Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00pm for the 7-Night Cruise on the Disney Magic (Saturday).
Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00pm for the 4-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Sunday).
Packages must arrive by Wednesday by 3:00pm for the 3-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Thursday).
If your box is hit on by the screening dog or chosen for additional screening they will open the list and the box and look through it. They will close it back up and provided nothing bad is in it then it will be in your room as usual later after boarding. These boxes will be coming on the ship with the crew mail among other things so they may be in the staterooms later then they were before as they are low priority in the scheme of things for Disney.

When we were on the 4th of July 3 day cruise this year the big screen show was Ratatoille (which I probably spelled wrong). :happytv:
Only twelve more days to teach... I CAN do it, I CAN do it, I CAN do it!
Here is a question- how expensive is like food on the St. Maarten and St. Thomas? If we really aren't doing any heavy shopping what is a safe and comfortable amount to bring? Also, I've read you can rent beach chairs and towels at some of the beaches. Around how much do they charge for that?

Food is some what pricey in port. A hamburger and fries will be $10-12 on the beach,we paid $9 for a beef burrito on our cruise this summer. Beach chair rental is around $10- 15 for the day. Beach towels are available from DCL as you get off the boat for free. I usually take $150-200 in cash with me to the beach, this covers $$ for cab fare to and from the beach,a light snack and cokes at the beach and a $$ for para sailing ,jet ski ,horse back riding or what ever we want to do while there.

I was wheeled into the operating room at 7:30 am, went to sleep, was wheeled into the recovery room at 9:00 am and wheeled to the car at approx. 12:30pm. Thank goodness for modern technology!!
It is great to be home and to be dising!! However, when I finally made it up the stairs this evening, Chuck told me that I was walking like an elderly person. I may be using more elevators than I usually use on the Magic in a few weeks!! :rolleyes1

I believe it's whenever you want and hence the surprise. I heard it could be once or multiple times. It's really up to you.

FE's can be done once or multiple times...we have done it both ways, sometimes as much as 5 or 6 times, depending on what we picked up, like, for instance, a whole bunch of stuff from Oriental Trading...while we could have done it in fewer trips, we chose the exercise...and it IS a lot of exercise, especially if you take the stairs and skip the elevators...
This year, it will be one or two trips i think for us, but only b/c we will be using larger packaging of sorts...

Another FE question for those who've done it before...
How do you organize your stuff in advance? :confused3 I have a variety of things -- one (the "main" item) is one per room, others are one per person or child.
I'd love to hear your suggestions and/or what has worked for you in the past. I was thinking I'd pre-bag items per room in a ziploc or something. Since there are multiple FE pockets, I don't want to put them all in one gift bag, as I'd like to put items in the appropriate pockets. (I'm assuming most have some kind of label on each pocket...)
TIA! :thumbsup2

I have gifts that are one per stateroom. I simply write the stateroom on the item then deliver.
As for the rest I make little bags up with the items inside. On each bag i put a tag with the cabin number and persons name. that way each child and the bigger kids aka adults gets a little baggie.

Haven't seen the MJ movie yet but family and friends have done nothing but raved about it. Friday night date night this week is This Is It. My brother said it would have been an absolutely amazing show.
I'm trying to decide if I'm going to do New Moon before the cruise or wait seeing that before the cruise would be a packed, late showing on Friday. I'm really excited to see this one. Team Jacob all the way. I'd LOVE the author to write a different ending with Bella and Jacob together. I really just don't get the Edward thing.

Anyone doing a Thanksgiving dinner with family before or after the cruise? This will be my first Thanksgiving away from home and of course I'm worried about where my parents (who's divorced) will do for their dinner. Initially my mom and aunt were going to hang out and possibly my oldest brother eat with them. I asked my middle brother if he would make sure our dad had a place to eat. They live in Jacksonville, FL so it's not easy to get him down there. Now I find out that my aunt is going to my cousin's in VA and won't be home with my mom. My brother in J'ville invited my mom down and I think she has forgotten that she was going to dog sit for me. Now I get to stress where everyone will eat and who will take care of my dog. My best friend is going to take the puppy for the week but I didn't want to uproot my old dog. Anyway, that's my new subject for a post!

Have you looked into (possibly) having a pet-sitter come to your house every day to check-in on, and feed your dog? That might relieve a LOT of stress. We uprooted our dogs and took them to a vet/shelter when we went on summer vacation a few years ago. They whimpered when we left (I knew they'd EVENTUALLY be okay, but our 7-year old dd cried and cried.:sad1: We were all miserable the first day of our trip.) We found a "pooper-scooper" man who not only comes to our house and feeds our dogs, but also takes them on walks and brushes them. He charges $17.00 per day for spending a half and hour with them (also feeds our indoor cat, and scoops the litter box.) It might seem like a bit spend, but SOOO worth it. HTH!:)

Regarding New Moon, we are probably the only people that still haven't seen Twilight. DM read the novel but she wasn't crazy about it. We first decided to let the hype died down before seeing it in theater. Then got busy with DS's activities and completely forgot.
Well I just got Twilight via Netflix. Saw the New Moon preview and thought we should watch the first one before seeing the 2nd. But again, we will wait till after the initial rush.

I'm doing my part towards the 5000!! I received my documents today!! I've put everything together; passports, signed documents and tickets.
I'm trying to decide if I want to work on FE's tonight or start searching for magnets to print off at work tomorrow! Someone made me a HALO one for my Garrett but of course I didn't email it to myself to print so I have to go search for it.
I'll post more later if I can come up with something!

Anyone else getting just a tad bit nervous about Hurricane Ida? I'm hoping it is too far in advance to bother our trip. Could just be the worrier in me.
I had 2 students out yesterday with the flu and the teacher next to me is out with shingles. I'm surrounded right now with sickness. lol You have no idea how much we all need a break to rest up. 11 more days of teaching!
The tropical storm is headed towards Cancun so we should be safe. hope you stay well

So not even one day and I had about 2.5 pages to read!
Excitement is definitely brewing here. Looks like we will get the shirts today!!!!! Unfortunately, with eveything going on tonight, I will not get the packed up for shipping until Friday evening -- but they will go in Saturday's mail. Lisa D -- remind me again when you leave? Can you PM me with a phone number so we can chat about shipping times?
Lisa E, hope you are feeling better today. Remember all those things grandma used to tell you...get plenty of rest, drink plenty of liquids and eat chicken soup!
Has anyone looked at the kids thread? There seems to be a fascination with....pie! It's really cute and funny. My Andrew doesn't seem to understand why all the kids love pie so much which strikes me as really funny since he is a fan of eating just about anything that doesn't eat him!
Well, hope everyone has a great day.
Karen
Thanks Karen!!
Yep I've been eating chicken soup, drinking liquids and resting!! :thumbsup2
Tomorrow morning Mason has a function at school. He is on safety patrol and they are having a swearing in ceremony w/ the mayor of our town. Chuck is driving us over to the school. I will finally get a chance to leave the house for a little while!! :worship:
I don't quite get the pie thing either...Mason has always said "I love pie" and "pie rocks". He was soooo excited on the kids thread that other kids were saying the same pie phrases!! :lmao: :lmao:

Shannon,
I will have time to make more magnet soon.
Look at this thread for magbets designs:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2299290
There are two more before it. Once it open, you should be able to use the "Search this thread" function. It is located right under the Disboards.com blue banner in the red menu area. (the one that starts with UserCP) Should be the 2nd to last option.
Chun
thanks guys!!! i'll look thru and see which ones to get personalized. i see they fixed the search function... it wasn't showing up on my menu area at all yesterday.

Just don't be surprised if the short walk that you are used to seems like miles today! Sorry to say, but it is true. I know I was desperate to get out when I had surgery a year ago so I decided to go to Sam's with Steve. Well, by the end of the store, I had to tell Steve to get the car for me because I was exhausted!

Here's my camera horror story...This was before digital cameras came into vogue. I had my 35mm camera with me and my ex while we were visiting my brother over in Germany. We went to Disneyland Paris and the camera quit working on me. To make matters even worse, we had a video camera as well and it also went on the blink.
For this trip, I am making sure to have extra batteries with me for the camera so I don't get caught without any.

37% of our school is out with "influenza like illness". Both my kids are home sick. Thank goodness NOW and not next week!!!!

Hey everyone!
hope you are all getting excited!
I'm actually trying to talk myself into losing a couple of pounds before we cruise so that inevitable 3 or 4 lbs I DO gain in the week won't be so bothersome to me, especially as it will converge with the beginning of the holiday season!
Fortunately the swine flu seems to have made its way through our area already, although my 11 y.o. nephew in Rhode Island was hospitalized with it over the weekend (and one of his 7th grade colleagues died of it :sad1:). Fingers crossed for everyone to stay healthy from now until the cruise.
Other than that, DD is dreaming of Mickey Bars. She also told me last night that DexH said that he hoped it was ok if we didn't spend all of our time together because being with DD and me (and our bickering, as all teen daughters do with their mothers) makes him crazy.... hahahaahhahaha, my master plan is working :lmao:

And my wife complains why I bring multiple cameras on a trip.
Need a DSLR for serious pictures, pocket cam for casual shooting, Video Camera for the "precious moments".
Of course nowaday any cell phone will take pictures too.

2nd post for today.
No significant H1N1 related illness at my son's school. Knock on wood.
However everyone in So Cal is in high alert, including work. Our company actually monitors anyone that's out sick with flu like symptoms and tell them to stay home until verified.

Yay, finally someone who makes sense! I just don't get the Edward thing either. I've never read any, but my co-worker tells me there is a lot of fan fiction available on the web where Bella and Jacob are together.

BTW, for the record, I loved the twilight series too and can not wait to see New Moon. But I am one of those Edward fans. :scared1::rotfl:

Although it was nice to see DCL....I would much rather be at work right now rather than feeling the way I am feeling!!! I will only have 3 1/2 days in the office prior to our cruise to be able to catch up on 2 weeks of work!! :scared1:

I went to walmart and bought some AIRBORNE and just guzzled a glass -- I will go ballistic if I get sick!
it is so hard to imagine that next week at this time I will be one day away from departing for Florida.
We are so excited to spend the week before in Orlando seeing NASA and SeaWorld - we are thinking of two days at both since the shuttle is probably a no go..
Charlie's family (cousins) are down in Orlando - so we will meet up with them off and on during the vacation :)
Friday afternoon Dsis and Dbil will come in - I am going to pack some lunch and dinner foods from teh condo ( anyone know if there is a microwave at the Hyatt?? )
I sure hope I can order a steak each night as Chun said - I dont eat sauces on my food either - so I am really boring - chicken is usually baked her with spices - but MY spices - eheheh :woohoo:
I have a list of foods I cannot eat due to colon issues ( I had my colon explode in 2003 - three weeks before my first cruise!!! - I went on my cruise btw ) and already have many foods planned out - but if I can have a steak and tater as a back up - I will be happy happy happy! :cloud9:
