I remember reading a while back about a certain combo of items causing your room key/ticket to get erased? Was it putting it in the same pocket as your camera? I can't remember. Please remind me before I find out the answer to hard way! Thanks!

I also think it might have something to do with cell phones

Some of the culprits:

Cell phones - although mine doesn't do it, a companion's did once
Digital Cameras - the regular film kind don't cause issues
Anything magnetic - magnets on wallets, purses, keychains, magnets you bought for the fridge at home
Eelskin wallets
Keys - not really that they erase them but they scratch them and it has the same end result

The magnetic strips on the key cards are really quite a bit more sensitive than regular credit cards, I have learned the hard way. Of course, if you have the dead one then the desk at your resort can re-outfit you with a new one. And, if it dies mid-park and you need it for fastpasses then you can get a replacement ticket printed by guest services in the park.

I'm going to add Nintendo DS to the list...my son put his card inside the DS last year and we weren't able to get through the turnstiles at AK.

grand daughter put two cards back to back so she could show both thru a clean storage, killed them both the strips touched each other and got both in one shot.

I work in a hotel currently and several things strip the cards

Cell Phones0- the magnetic strips in cell phone speakers will strip the card.
Other credit cards if they are put near each other will strip the card
Digital cameras, purses with magnetic clasps, money clips and so forth!!!

Are they protected/safe if you use one of those little cardboard/plastic sleeves that sometimes come with a debit card?

Im not to sure about that! Sometimes it doesnt even have to touch the cards, if you have a debit card near a room card it will demagnetize it!

This may sound silly....but what about going through airport security? Any problems with the x-ray process effecting them?? :confused3

I was planning on carrying them in my purse/carry-on during our flight down.

We were told to keep all magnetic strips going the same way in a billfold, that the strips being flipped could erase:confused3, not sure it is true but we were told that! My hubby was very careful with his card, but still KTTW card was stripped by the 4th day there. Who knows? :goodvibes

We've never had a problem with cell phones, digital cameras, or credit cards erasing our cards. The only time any of us had a problem was 2 years ago when my youngest dd's card was de-magnetized twice. The culprit: the magnetic closures on her jacket.
