The only one I'm sure of is Fort Wilderness - how about the Epcot or WDW resorts? - I'd like to take a park break one afternoon with DS and do this. Do I need a ressie or can you get one last minute. Who knows the cost/time allowed, etc. Can 13 yo take out his own boat or drive with me in the boat?

The ones I know of are the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Widerness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. We were just there and I believe the age to drive is 12. I am not sure if they have to be accompanied by an adult or not. It can get pretty busy out on the lakes during the off season, I can't imagine what summer must be like! Our kids love the water mice and we make it a yearly event! We have never needed ressies for the boats, but again I am not sure how they run it during the busy times! Have a great trip!!!!

You can also rent them at the Caribbean Beach resort! Check my pics of this on my CBR web site, the link is below :)

Great - thanks everyone! Sounds like this should be easier to do than I thought - will surprise him one afternoon as we leave the park with a resort stop and boat ride. This is the boy who, when he was 4 1/2, walked into the lobby of the GF (we were just checking it out), raised both arms into the air and proclaimed loudly "some day I'm going to own a place like this!" - oh, a mother can only hope - maybe then I'll get to stay in that deluxe suite!;)

Hello,
The best places to rent a water mouse are the Polynesian, or the Contemporary. You do not have to be a resort guest to do so, and unless all boats are taken, you don't need to make a reservation. You could always call from Guest Relations at whatever park you are in before heading over. The reason I like those resorts best for a water mouse, is that you have the largest area to boat on, between Bay Lake & Seven Seas Lagoon, and the marinas are easily accesible. The areas available at places such as Y&BC, CSR, etc, are much smaller than what is open at the MK area resorts.
My 14 year old daughter was allowed to drive her own boat this past fall, I believe the cut-off age is 12, but you should call and make sure.
Hope that helps,
Take care,
Bill
