Has anyone vacationed/visited Tokyo Disneyland/DisneySea? I am thinking what next in our vacations... I have just returned from FL and am thinking about trying to dream up a nice trip for next year (perhaps something that my family would not know about either). I have worries about the culture differences, the hotels, the whole travel/time difference thing, especially with it not being our main holiday and also with the kinds of other things there are to do in the area?

If not Tokyo Disney, are there any places in the USA/Canada (which I might not have visited according to my signature below!) that you think is a DEFINITE must to visit and could be done in say a week or 10 days?

Cheers

Japan is a fantastic experience.
Its one of those places you should try to visit at least once in your lifetime.

As well as TD, there is so much to see and do, from Mount Fuji all the way to Hiroshima.

Don't worry about the cultural differences, its a much nice place to go to for a vacation than many countries, with very little crime whatsoever and the Japanese will make great efforts to help you. For example, the first time I was there we decided to take the train from Kyo6to to Osaka. Of course the train maps are all in japanes, but as we were trying to decipher them, we were amazed at the kindness of Japanese people who came up to us and helped us find the stations we needed.

Other highlihts
The Shinkansen (Bullet Train) fantastic ride, the efficiancy of the normal trains, if it says 11:31 it arrives 11:31.
The river boat ride in Tokyo
Ropongi district of Tokyo for bars and restaraunts
The Emporers palace and gardens right in the centre of Tokyo
The buddhist temples in Tokyo and the sacred city of Kobe
Wewent in the spring and the Cherry blossom parties in the public gardens to celebrate, like little picnics
Hiroshima, very thought provoking.
The electronics district with their fantastic goods. the Car showrooms that are coffee bars with some cars
The main square in Tokyo, with huge TV screens, showing news etc during the day and becoming MTV screens at night as the young and no so young of Tokyo meet there to go out, the built in speakers in the lamp posts making it a huge disco
The underground shopping areas
The Sunday liove bands in the street running down from the Olympics swimming pool to the TV station
The food, well thats a journey and a seperate posting in itself, its not just fish, but subtle delicate meats, vegetables and yes, for those who don't want to try new things, burgers are avialable. But you have to try the fish market.
For the older ones, the karaoke bars and other bars,

But most of all, its not Europe or Florida, its a completly different society and way of life which will enrich your childrens education

Plus its expensive!

Got to Agree (with a capital A no less) with everything said above.

Japan will blow your mind. Absolutely one of lifes 'must -dos'. There is enough in Tokyo to keep you busy for months - but make sure you stretch your legs away from Tokyo.

I was there in 06 for 8 days with work and loved everything about it. The food, the culture, the splendid manners or everyone - even being in a 6+ point earthquake. All part of the experience!

I only got outside Disneyland Tokyo - there was no time unfortunaltely to get in (usual Japanese schedule you understand). Did however manage to get to 'England Hills' in Aijwa Island. A theme park dedicated to all things British - a truly surreal experience- that still to this day baffles me! The sheep dog trials and bus ride I got - the devotion to koala bears still causes confusion...

Catching sight of Mt Fuji rising majestically through the clouds on the way in -still brings up the goosebumps. Would go back again tomorrow given half the chance.

Book those flights and enjoy!
