Man do I hate Disney. I just got off the phone with CRO (just now, I just hung up the phone 30 seconds ago, OK?) and what a rude CM. I told her I wanted to visit Easter weekend and wanted to stay at the GF Concierge. Well, she checked the availability and offered us a room for over 400 bucks a night! Well, I said "no way" I will pay 169.00 a night because I read on the internet that someones sister had a brother-in-law who's mother's cousin stayed at a Disney Concierge for 169.00 per night and "I want that rate!" Well, she wouldn't even check the computer, that #@%&%! I told her I owned 10 shares of Disney stock as as a stockholder was entitled to be treated better than this & if she didn't want me to e-mail Michael Eisner she'd better get with it.
Note: I've been in customer service all of my working life and I know the best way to get what you want is to not take "no" for an answer and pretty much try and be as obnoxious as possible to everyone who could possibly help you...
So, I then asked to speak to a supervisor. After waiting for a full one minute and 22 seconds, that I was paying for, I was really fuming! When that supervisor got on the phone I told her in no uncertain terms what had happened and what I wanted. I added that she must be a pretty lousy supervisor to allow such #@%&*$@ incompetents to be working for her! Well, she hung up on me! Can you believe it? I was stunned knowing that I had money to pay and not believing that Disney, this big, rich Company could care so little about someone as loyal as me. After all we've bought three Disney movies over the last 5 years, visited the Parks twice and stayed on property once. This is certainly no way to treat a valuable repeat customer, is it???

As sad as it is, I work in this kind of business.....and yes these kind of people really DO exist. Everybody thinks you need to give them whatever they ask for...and thats just not right!!! Hotels, Motels and resorts have prices, policies and rules for a reason. Why cant the general public understand that??? Everybody thinks they are special...which theres nothing wrong with...but everybody making a reservation or staying at a Hotel need to realize the rules are rules and they are the same for everybody!
(sorry had to vent...this is a HUGE problem where I am!)
You gave me a big guffaw to start off my weekend! Sadly, some people do think this is how one gets their way!
I'll bet the CMs have many war stories they could share as those shared here about them! Thanks for the humorous reminder.

Hi,
I laughed out loud when I read this - I thought it was very funny!
But, then I read on and was disappointed to realize that some posters thought this was a "message" that needed to be pointed out to other posters.
I think the negative posters need to be allowed to let off some steam. I'm like a lot of people who have a 99 to 1, love/hate relationship with Disney. It's such a great place that when the nasty stuff does happen, it just seems nastier in a great environment like Disney - and when compared to the great service rendered by other CMs. And for a lot of us who don't live near Florida, we pay big bucks to feed our addiction which makes it a little tougher to shrug off the nasties.
Write some more, Peter Pirate! Humor works in every situation.

I have to say something.... My family and I travel a lot and stay at (mostly) very nice upscale hotels.
NO WHERE BESIDES DISNEY DOES ANYONE EXPECT A DISCOUNT!!!!!
I personally think people expect too much sometimes. But this is just MY HUMBLE OPINION :D
By the way, I am not directing this towards anyone on these boards, it's a very general statement! I realize we all like to find a good deal and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's wrong to think that Disney is trying to rip us off when we can't find a good rate.

Thanks to everyone for appreciating my humor based tirade. I love the Resorts Board for the useful information give & take, but I find lately soooo much (apparant) selfishness in that everyone seems to be demanding something, often for nothing. Criticism is heaped upon people with no effort to conceal the real issue - which is often (not always ) the result of someone simply not getting their way.
Thanks all for restoring my belief that most people do have a sense of humor and for supporting a peeve that has been really bugging me.:D

It is really difficult for some people to post here due to the fear of being flamed, and while I would hope that is not what the original poster would intend, "jokes" like this often breed contempt for others. I agree being rude to anyone is not appropriate - be it CRO or posters on this board.
Just an FYI - I always ask for a discount at EVERY hotel before I go (not just Disney), or for an upgrade when I check in, and it is rare that I am not successful. It doesn't hurt to ask.
Just an opinion from someone who often feels on the other side of the fence here:)

Robin, I can tell you from personal experience that there are several CRO CM's who read these boards but that's all they will do.
They dare not post who they are for several reasons. Fear of getting inundated with every CRO question and complaint that anyone has is one. Also people can't seem to separate a CM's personal advice/opinions from someone who acts as a spokesperson for Corporate Disney. This can lead to major problems in the workplace should the person be found out.
So be happy in the knowledge that there are CRO CM's reading these posts and in knowing that they're giving Peter Pirate the big "two thumbs up" even now.:D :p  :D :p  :D :p

macs4us,
I am going to say this in the nicest way I know how and to give a different perspective and not flame anyone (and.......that is a biggie for me ;) ).
First, I am very sorry you feel offended, I am sure that was not the intent with all this levity. You are right, it never hurts to ask for a discount or an upgrade.......however, to expect someone to look through a myriad of discounts is IMHO uncalled for, there is customer service and there is silliness. There is a limit. It is up to the person trying to book a ressie to do their homework.
It is really difficult for some people to post here due to the fear of being flamed, and while I would hope that is not what the original poster would intend, "jokes" like this often breed contempt for others. I agree being rude to anyone is not appropriate - be it CRO or posters on this board.
For me, levity relieves the contempt. I believe contempt is bred on its own.
I have no problem with people venting, however, I don't take it to heart as I have not heard but one person's interpertation of the events. I am not calling those people liars, not in the least, but, without hearing both side of a conversation you have no way to make an assessment on who heard what, or.....who misheard what.
This is JMHO and I hope I did not hurt your feelings.

Even a "serious" board can use some humor once in a while and this WAS funny. It also didn't attack anyone directly. Everyone, and I am sure that includes Peter LIKES getting a discount. His obvious exageration was just to point out that some people expect a little much. I don't see where it will keep anybody from posting legitimate questions so lets all laugh and move on....

I feel that my "home" here on the DIS boards is right here, the Resorts Board! We are laughing at OURSELVES, no one else. So please...if you feel we are laughing at YOU... We aren't! :)
The Resorts board is the one board where I feel totally comfortable posting and where many, many members try to help each other to find out inside info on the resorts, what the "best" room or area is, what building not to stay in, and yes, even how to get a good rate, if/when available. If that wasn't our intention, NO ONE would be getting the great rates that I see people posting about all the time, people wouldn't be coming back and thanking other posters for the great info they shared, and I would NOT have spent the time I did in creating a CBR-specific web site who only other vacation-planners would be interested in. Unlike my original "Family vacations" site, this CBR site was created by me to help out people here on the DIS boards :) I love doing it, don't get me wrong... But please, don't feel offended if you read this thread and think you see yourself here.

I've been addicted to this board since I found it in January and I love it-- I don't know what I would have done without it for our March '02 trip.
The people on this board are extremely generous with their knowledge and time. I have received some amazing info in lengthy(!) posts, especially considering the search function was often down. I know many of these veterans were answering questions that they have probably answered 20 times already.

Way to go Peter! I wouldn't worry about hurt feelings...when folks post (on any board here on the DIS) about their "bad" experiences with Disney, be it CRO, TDS, etc. no-one stops to think about how those posts hurt CMs feelings. And most of the time those "bad" experiences are simply the result of unreasonable expectations!
CMs do read ALL of the boards here on the DIS, and there have been many hurt feelings as a result of unreasonable criticisms. If there have been hurt feelings as a result of this post, then those folks need to stop a minute and identify WHY their feelings are hurt. Could it be that the original post hit a little too close to home? And if that's the case, then those folks need to take a step back and reevaulate their expectations from Disney.
WDWalways
02-26-2002, 10:35 AM
I also truly hope your post is a joke because there is NO WAY ON EARTH you or anyone else except for a Disney employee or someone in the travel business could ever expect to get Grand Floridian Concierge level for $169.00 per nt. That is less than half price and the only people that I know of that get half price - and only half price, not more - on room rates on site is Disney employees and travel industry employees (like myself.) And if you truly think the CRO res agents are rude, you must get the same "rude" agent everytime you call. The only complaint I have about the CRO res agents is they never seem to know too much about what's new with discounts and/or rates but they always check for me anytime I come across that problem and they are always very polite. But as they say, to each his own.

That was too funny.!
I wish it was not true. I was standing line at Hertz the other day (Not in Orlando) and the man in front of me was SCREAMING at the agent that even though he reserved a subcompact he had only done it because he had read on some internet site that you always got upgraded since they had very few of these. Well, guess what they had a subcompact and wanted him to take it. We were howling at this man (and he then yelled at us which made us laugh more!) It got funnier! We get out to the cars and he has a wife and two kids and enough luggage for 10 people and his wife is letting him have it! SHe is NOT going to sit with the luggage in her lap etc.... We hated to leave this comedy show. The best part was that Hertz upgraded me to a luxury to make up for my long wait while BOZO made a fool of himself! Honey goes farther than vinegar!
For those of you who got offended I am truly amazed! This was not at all offensive. Even if it had been true the only person who should have worried about our reaction was Peter Pirate.

Doesn't he know that the predictable response from the majority of readers of this Board, rather than welcoming the opportunity to hear someone's experience, will be to MOCK, RIDICULE, and (hopefully) BANISH the NAY-SAYER!?!!! Certainly the sarcastic, hostile responses to this post thus far confirm this oh-so-predictable tendency!
Understand that those who spend hour upon hour upon hour on this Board become fanatically and pathologically dependent upon it (a chat-room in disguise!), use it to shape and confirm their identity, and therefore STRONGLY resist any dissenters, whom they see as threatening their little cyber fantasyland!
I applaud you, Peter Pirate, for sharing your ideas. Understand, however, that you will probably soon find your username and password on this Board have been disabled. SCARY ! (I can't wait to see the responses to my voicing of this OPINION -- I can already hear the keyboards a-smokin'!!!)

Welcome to the DIS boards ;)
From SeaSpray, who has no life except to spend hour upon hour upon hour on these message boards which are really just chat rooms in disguise because I have nothing else to do with my time all day, and who uses these boards to shape and confirm her identity and who would jump off a bridge if anyone had the nerve to come here and complain about anything Disney! :D

Well, this thread has now completely gone off topic for this forum. So, it's time for the thread to be closed.
If some of you feel the need to criticize DIS members, please don't do it here. That kind of "attitude" is not welcome here. Also, just a friendly reminder that our webmasters never "disable" users because their opinion is not "accepted" by us. That is ridiclous. The ONLY time a user gets "banned" is after numerous violations of forum guidelines. In addition, those who frequent our boards also know that ALL opinions are welcome. Attacking members is NOT.
Thanks for your understanding. :)
