So there's a HP club, Twilight club, and a few other clubs.
At first, I was thinking of a RENT club, but instead why not a broadway club? We can talk about everything broadway. :D
Does this sound like a good idea to anyone else?

Sounds great Allison. =)

I'm going to see Wicked on tour sometime this school year. I'm not exactly sure when.
It'll be the first broadway play I'll see.
But I want to see every play.
But,
Phantom of the Opera
and
RENT are at the top of my list.

RENT is going to be on Broadway in Chicago at around Febuary. None of my friends like RENT, so I don't really know what I'm going to do. It's $60 per ticket on Ticketmaster. My parents hate RENT, even though I got my dad into siniging "What You Owe" sometimes =D

w00t, j'adore broadway! well, except for the STUPID LOCAL ONE STAGEHAND STRIKE THAT HAS GONE ON LONG ENOUGH AND NEEDS TO END RIGHT NOW.

:):):)

my favorite shows are:

1. rent
2. legally blonde
3. aida
4. hairspray
5. mamma mia!

aaand the tour for rent is going to be here next week, so my friend and i are going to try to rush for front row seats. it's gonna be amazing. :)

I just hate how people say that they hate RENT, but yet they've never even see it, let alone know what it's about. "Oh, it's about people who are trying to pay their rent, how is that exciting?" It's SO much more then that. They just don't understand.
EDIT: I mean..LOOK..at how many times they're gonna be in IL!! D=

i haven't seen many plays (none at Broadway but a few at West End)

but i do know that a radio station i listening to was letting people phone up and ask to own (spiritually) any West End (and probably Broadway) musical. I emailed them (because you could) and i got the Lion King :-D

This is the first time she's seen it on stage, so i'm really excited for her, especially since we're gonna be front row lmao.

the other 3 times i've seen it is with my mom. she said she didn't like it the first time (not because of the material, just because it was confusing) and after we saw on broadway twice this summer she loves it, and she's always singing songs from it. (like today it started snowing for the first time this winter, so all day she's been going 'AND ITS BEGINNING TO SNOW!!!!!!')

and she said that she likes it because anthony rapp (the original broadway mark and mark in the movie) is from joliet, il. lmao. she's really weird

Anthony is from Joliet? =D
My mom hates the scene in RENT the movie where Collins and Angel start randomly singing. I love the dancing in I'll Cover You. I'm still confused...Did Angel die from aids? And..is Angel a guy or a girl in the movie? Cause Mark said "she, I mean he" during I'll Cover You reprise, so I got all confused.. D=
I love Roger. =D

Yay, Broadway Club! Woooooo! We need to have one of these at my school...

Anyways...I hate the strike. It's stinky. But at least they finally agreed on opening the Grinch for all the little kids!

Let's see. My favorite shows are Wicked (jeez, I lost count of how many times I've seen this at about 6 or so), Rent, Les Miz (I'm in it with my theatre company now! Yay!), and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

BTW, has anyone here (who has seen Rent on Broadway) signed the Rent wall? I did. It was right after I saw Adam and Anthony for the last time. I posted a pic of what I wrote on the Show Your Face thread a while ago. My best friend wrote her phone number with an arrow pointing to it that said, "Adam...call me." :)

I really hope you signed the white wall in the alley, and not the front of the theater. The front of theater is not meant to be signed. There's a wall behind the theater that is the real wall, where all the celebrites signed after seeing the show. Lately though, people have started signing the front of the theater. The nederlander is supposed to have a gritty feel to it, hence why there's 'grafitti' on it (it was done by pros though when it opened in 96), but not the trashy feel that the signing of the front of it has done to it.

I signed the one you're supposed to sign, in the alley. I read that they had just cleaned up a bit of the wall in front of the theatre, so I'm like, "Ok, better not sign there!" :)

Ok, good lol. Yeah, but the people who cleaned it off weren't members of the union, so they got banned from lotto because it was considered vandalism. really weird, i know.

Does anyone else cry when Angel dies in the movie? I start crying from Without You to the end of the movie! It never fails. I only know one of my friends who is (almost) as obessed with RENT as I am.

I was talking to my friend last night.

Speaking of songs...

What is everyone's favorite broadway song?
Right now I loooove "Touch Me" from Spring Awakening.

I also like "Tomorrows Women" from the off broadway version of Grey Gardens.

And of course....I cant forget The Last 5 Years. Goodbye Untill Tomorrow is possibly the best song ever written. Sherie Rene Scott....gosh she is just amazing.

Ah! I want to join!

I've only seen Les Miz on Broadway, but it got me hooked. I've seen RENT and Phantom on DVD.

We're going to go see Wicked and the Lion King on Broadway in April. I can't wait! I really want to see Spring Awakening and RENT, though! Actually, I just want to see as many as I can, but Spring Awakening and RENT are at the top of my list.

Our school's doing a Broadway Revue in two weeks, and it's got songs from Wicked, Spring Awakening, and Phantom, and for a finale we're all singing "Seasons of Love" in our various costumes. It's gonna be cool!

Another Day owns my life. Once when I saw on Broadway I started crying during it... I was like, wth, lmao? probably cause adam was there, i dunno. but still one of my favorite rent songs. <3

Right now I'm listening to Bye Bye Birdie... love it lmao.

No wait - it just shuffled to a Defying Gravity remix. lmao.

I found this person online who has TONS of legally blonde recordings with all the understudies... omg, i really hope they email me back. I'm dying to hear Andy Karl as Callahan or Leslie Kritzer as Paulette. omigod and especially annaleigh ashford as elle... -die!!-

Haha. Yeah, it probably would. I just thought of something..
A RENT wedding. How awesome would that be?
The colors would be gray and white (since black is usually for funerals)
And..the wedding song..would be I'll Cover You.

I'm a little late to the game but I'm so psyched to see a Broadway club!!! I'm a HUGE Broadway fan and always have been. Living in NYC I've seen a good 40 or so Broadway and off-Broadway shows, with my first being Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Michael Damien in 1992!!

Some of my favorites have been Rent, Joseph, Beauty and the Beast, Aida, All Shook Up, Footloose, Saturday Night Fever, Fame, Annie, Big, Grease, Bombay Dreams, The King and I, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Annie Get Your Gun, Cabaret (with John Stamos!), Seussical the Musical and Tom Sawyer, to name a few.

The only ones I haven't liked were Cats (too slow and dreary), Rocky Horror (the movie's always been my favorite movie ever and they ruined it with this version), and Movin' Out (I'd rather see Billy Joel live than a bunch of people just interpretive dancing to his music).

I'm SO glad that the strike's over!!! We have tickets to see The Little Mermaid at the end of December and Wicked and Hairspray in January.

Has anyone seen Spring Awakening yet?

I did! OMG it is AMAZING. I saw it three days before the Tony Awards, so all the hype was just getting started.
John Gallagher Jr. and Jonathan Groff are amazingly talented, and such sweethearts as well. I talked with them at the stage door and they were so sweet and nice! Everyone was buzzing about the Tony's, wishing them all good luck and trying to find out what SA was going to be performing. :)

I can't wait to see it again. My sister and I want to get onstage seats. I think that would be awesome.

What does everyone think about JRB's new musical 13? It opened in LA last year...and there are rumors it will appear on Broadway next year.

Personally I loooove his music (Last 5 Years...Songs for a New World...how can you NOT love those shows!). The musical seems fresh, without trying too hard. (Preteens singing about the troubles of their lives could get a little redundent)

Norbert was amazing, like he always is. It's a play about an artist who has to fake his death and dress up like a girl to get famous. Anyway, it was great. Next show on the list: Little Mermaid! Speaking of off broadway, I love Altar Boyz, and I was showing a video of Altar Boyz to my friend. Her Mom walked in and got wicked offended. I feel really bad, I personally think the musical is hilarious, but I geuss I can see where it can get offensive.

I was actually in TMM. I was one of the Chinese brothers, expect they switched my gender. So it was two Chinese brothers and one sister. The more I think about it, the dumber that seems to me. Anyhoo, I liked the show a lot before I was in it. Then it got old. And the people I was in it with were like, 12 and 13 (I was the oldest...I was 15). So we all didn't have that much fun. And it was my last show at my old theatre place, and I cried when I left (which I wasn't expecting), so it's hard to listen to Millie music anymore because I just remember crying. Isn't that awful? Sorry for that long explanation ;)

So...I have news! I'm in Les Miz right now, and our Eponine is amazing. We all love her. Anyways, she went for an audition for Spring Awakening, and got a callback. Sure enough, she got in! At least that's what everyone is telling me. My friends said she's ensemble/understudy. I don't know who she's an understudy for, but I have a feeling it's Wendla, because my friend described the role, and it sounded like Wendla. I don't know what she starts, but a bunch of us in my theatre group want to go see it with her in it. Just in case she becomes a big star...her name is Allie. So I just thought that was cool :)

Ah, no prob. It's life...and it's theatre! I was at a sleepover last night, and a friend who's in Les Miz and I were summing up to all the other people how theater peeps deal with drama and junk. It was a really funny conversation, actually.

So...that had nothing to do with Millie. But anyway :) Um, did I say that I'm seeing Young Frankenstein next Friday? I thought I did. I thought we had tickets for forever ago, but turns out they're for soon. I'm really excited! My mom makes fun of me because the only thing that gets me really psyched when there are commercials or clips of it on TV is Christopher Fitzgerald. He plays Igor, that creepy dude. Ha, wish I could! I'm just going with my mom, so it's going to be a bit boring. But I'll be sure to give a full report (hopefully with pictures) when I get back!

The sophomore class (thaaaat's me!) is seeing a Broadway show sometime next year :cool1: We picked our top three choices out of a certain list that we would like. Mine were A Chorus Line, Young Frankenstein, and Spelling Bee. No matter what we see though, my grade won't care, our class is the one with 5% of the people who are actually into theater. It's unfortunate :confused3

Hey guys....Ive been MIA but thats only cuz its tech week (aka hell week) in Christmas Carol. The show opens Friday, and goes through Sunday. And dont you know were supposed to get a Nor'easter Saturday into sunday!! Ah well The show MUST go on!!

Funny story: I was in costume about 30 min prior to curtain last night, then i had my blankee and fuzzy slippers because my dress was COLD. So I started helping one of the kids with their homework...and then I hear FRANTIC calls for me (BELLE BELLE) finalyy I RUN to the stage and I still have my slippers and blankee on...I have never been "undressed" like that so fast haha.

So there I was, dumping Scrooge during the dead of winter...in a park...and I am in a light party dress with no coat, no muff, and no shoes.

:] It will never happen again. hahaha

If anyone is in the MA area and wants to come just PM me for details.

(YAY 500 posts!!!)

Samantha Brown was on Broadway? Really? I wouldn't have guessed. What was she in?

I had no idea either! I knew Paige Davis from Trading Spaces was in Chicago though, and her husband is the Grinch in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" on Broadway right now. But I didn't know about Samantha Brown. Cool :cool1:

Soooo. I saw Young Frankenstein Friday night! It was amazing! I must admit, my mom and I liked it better than The Producers. It was just...funnier, and the plot was hysterical. I saw most of the movie beforehand, so I knew what was coming pretty much. But I still loved it. Like I predicted, Christopher Fitzgerald as Igor stole the show. Whenever he was in a scene, it was hilarious. And Megan Mullally (she was Karen in Will and Grace) was fantastic. Her voice was unbelievable. I think she sang notes that weren't even real! Craziness. Anyways, it was a great night. I totally recommend it to all of you guys if you want to see a show :)

I don't think you did tell me that... But anyway, that's awesome! I love OOTI, I would do anything to be in it again. I was a dancer in it... :)

It was great when I saw it on Broadway. My dad got us backstage to meet Harvey Firestein (the original Edna), so that was fun. He was very nice. I saw it really early in its run, so there was a lot of energy going on, and you could tell the cast was having a good time.

So I offically got my Little Mermaid tickets on Christmas! I'm so excited. It should be great. I actually got so much other Broadway loot as well...it's ridiculous :)

Shrek..the musical? Are you..serious? O_o

Me, either, Princess Dot.

What next? Seriously. Now, I don't mind Legally Blonde being turned into a musical (in fact, after my skeptic over it, I thouroughly enjoyed it!).

But Shrek? Ya gotta be kidding.

They're taking RENT off Broadway...and putting Shrek on.

Where is the justice in this, I ask of you?

Wow, I didn't know about that but I am seriously upset about that! There is absolutley no justice in that!

Ive known this for a while now. Throughout the workshops a really good cast of people have been involved.

Rumor has it Sutton Foster will be Fiona...who knows if that is true. But it might give this musical hope.

:confused3 Shrek just doesn't scream Broadway Musical to me.

I was just thinking the same thing...I've heard about this for a long time, on and off, and it's really weird. I can see maybe Mulan, or Anastasia, or anything else, but not Shrek. And yeah, I also heard about Sutton as Fiona. Eh. :confused3

As much as I don't want Rent to close, I think it's time. Even though I was like, hysterical when I heard it was going to close, I think I'd rather have it go out with a bang then slowly putter out. The Nederlander's been less than 50% full lately, even after Adam and Anthony coming back. Ticket sales have shot up because of the closing, which is good. And Jeffery Seller is 100% right in the statement he made on the Rent site, it is comforting to know that Rent is there, even though some of us may be hundreds of miles away from the Neder. And I think some of the Renthead community have kind of calmed down because of Jeffery Seller's comments, since he's been with Rent forever, and Adam Pascal's blog about the closing on his website.

Unfortunately, even though Rent is really cheap to run (minimal costumes, sets, props), it hasn't been making money, and no income=no Rent, sadly.

But Adam is right, we do have the (hopefully) revival to look forward to in years to come, and there's always the tour!

I always thought Anastacia would make a good musical. They could really focus on the history and less on the disney'fied "everything is happy in la la land" story line. :rolleyes1

There's been a change in the New York plans; some woman told Mom that it was near impossible to get Wicked tickets, so she's decided to go after RENT. But with it closing, do you think we'll be able to get four tickets for the first week of April?

And if not, what do you all recommend seeing? I would say Spring Awakening, but Dad wouldn't be up for it...

And let me just say: Shrek? On Broadway? Wha'?

Well, the Broadway cast stays in New York and does Rent at the Nederlander Theatre. The Broadway cast is also part of the Actor's Equity Association. The tour cast travels all over the country, and the actors are not Equity.

The show is exactly the same if you see it on Broadway or tour, besides the cast, and a few lyrical changes here and there. (For example, in 'Happy New Year', when Mark sings "You can take the girl outta Hicksville, but you can't take the Hicksville outta the girl" they replaced Hicksville with Jersey because they didn't think people in the rest of America would know where Hicksville is. :p

Are those the only dates and places the tour will be traveling? After the Broadway show is completley over (:sad2: ) will it continue to tour to other locations?

Yesterday my grandma and my little cousin went to go see Wicked again. I wanted to go with, but it would have been my fourth time, and my parents didn't want me to miss school... but they brought me back a hoodie and an autographed poster. We always go on backstage tours when we go.

Yep, the tour is very popular and is selling out everywhere, so I'm sure the tour will continue long after Rent closes on Broadway.

It may classify me as a dork but for christmas my mom got me the wicked original cast soundtrack and stuffed it down into the toe of my stocking. So it was like stuck so i turned it upside down and started shaking it. It fell out and i when i saw i honestly started crying. Like full out crying I was so happy!!!

Oh, okay. I doubt I could find anyone who would go with me though. I was having a conversation with my friend the other day.

RIP Jon Larson! We all miss you so. I'm playing the RENT OBC soundtrack in your honor. You'd be proud, Jon. Did you know that your musical made the number 7 longest-running musical in Broadway history, playing for 12 years? They dedicate each and every performance to you. There was also a movie musical made! You've touched so many hearts with your music, your message, and your story. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Add me to the list I'm an addict!

During the strike this year I had great tickets to A Chorus line for my 16th b-day. They went on strike the day before my show. It was depressing, but I'm still going at some point.

I'm also going to go see Wicked again in May, and Possibly Phantom for the second time w/ French Club.

You're lucky. You have friends who like RENT. None of my friends have even seen the movie. They say how it sucks.
