Hi,
Still debating where to add-on. Just when I convince myself that
AKV is probably a better option of adding on....I remember this.

Am I correct....Is there no counter service at the new AKV....kidani.
Being that AKV is like a destination itself....and I don't cook on vacation,
it seems very INCONVENIENT to not have that option.

At the Boardwalk at least you could walk over to BCV or epcot, I'm thinking
it won't be so easy to get to Jambo house.

Anyone else concerned about this....and if your not...do you cook when
you are at WDW?
thanks

Unfortunately, or fortunately, we always cook in the villas. Just one of those cost savings things; and with the portion sizes that are available we don't exactly feel healthy always eating in the parks. We consider it one of the perks of DVC. We have such a laid back lifestyle where we are in our lives that spending a few minutes to whip up a meal is no big deal.

I'm wondering if there will be an area with pre-made food items, similar to the Turtle Shack at OKW.

This would be a concern of mine. We just purchased SSR because of the proximity to DTD. We do NOT want to cook on our vacations. It was one of the conditions that my DH had about the trip with my sister and mom scheduled for June - they can cook if they want but our eating habits don't change. We want to check out all the DVC resorts in the next couple of years and I know that those without a CS nearby will probably not be revisited.

Really? No counter service? I don't remember that but if you're right that would be disappointing. I LOVE the counter service at SSR and I guess I was hoping that they would something like it at AKV. The Mara is a LONG way away!

I hope your right spiceycat.....because while I will definately visit.....

I don't think I would make it my "home" if getting a quick bite to
eat is a big pain in the butt:confused3

I love the C.S at SSR....even a grab and go like OKW....
something other than the pool bar that might be open....and probably
closes early.

Yes when we took a tour of the show rooms in October, we bought in August, we were told there was definitely a food court/CS as well as the TS :)

Claire,

I hope so.

However, when I toured I asked the same question. I said, "Are there no plans to have a CS there (pointing to the new building)?". The tour guide didn't know.

And a sales guide taking some guests in replied to me, "Of course there's a CS at AKV!" in kind of an aggressive manner.

I replied, "I already know about Mara". "I'm asking about the new construction."

So I hope that your guide is correct.

However, I'm sure a lot of other guides say there is one because of Mara in the lodge. No big deal for me to walk. Unless you are at the end of that Kidani hall and bringing it to your room of course!!!! And I'm glad there is one at the resort. However, I would love for one to be right at Kidani. It's certainly not like going from VWL to WL.

There should be something at the pool to provide pool snacks. And a store in the gift store to purchase food items.

There will be CS (food court type place) and a gift store that will sell packaged items. This is Disney...they will provide places for people to spend money. ;)

I guess I was thinking if we were staying there, we'd just walk next door to Mara. No further walk than BWV to BCV I would think.

yeah I dont see any issues here

Im sure they will have something out by the pool for everyone there--they are putting alot into that area in general so I highly doubt they will leave it without food service

if people dont want/like that then head over to Mara, its not THAT far

if people dont want/like that then head over to Mara, its not THAT farIf Mara was all I had, then I guess I would walk over to it no matter how far. BUT I think it's going to be quite a hike from the other end of the new building. Heck, it's a long way from the other end of the lodge itself. I know I stayed 3 doors from the end one trip.

DVC will have to put in a general store. It would be nice if they added at least a snack shop at that location.

Same Here:
I took the tour in July and asked about CS in the new building and was told there would be CS,store and sit down. Of course the person giving me the tour wasn't my guide as he was busy. The person I got was training someone to give the tour to current members to free up the guides for newbie's. I asked again are you sure it will be in the NEW building and he kind of laughed and said YES CS will be in the NEW building....... Susan

I guess if I was surprised about anything regarding Kidani food service, is that they are going to have a full-service restaurant instead of CS. I would have thought CS would have been alot more popular especially seeing as AKL already has two full-service restaurants. Frankly I can't see anything at Kidani topping Boma.

One more point - I guess if the lack of CS at Kidani is a real deal-breaker, you can always request your ressie at the main lodge. I know I'm really looking forward to staying there week after next. We love AKL/AKV.

disney for some reason has been really not into counter service at DVC resorts.

OKW has 1 little one and sometimes another little one.

SSR has a better one - but then it was also surpose to be their restuarant. Until too many complaints.

BWV has nothing.

BCV has nothing.

VWL has nothing.

these villa go with the hotel restuarants and counter service.

BWV uses BW.
