Believe it or not we have had many bad experiences with Walmart and have quit shopping there now we shop at Target we know many other people who have had bad experiences and we are against it supposely theres a Walmart coming down by the airport right down the street from us and many people including us are against this I dont know if its different where others live but we have extremely long lines they give bad directions if you ask where something is and they treat there employees horribly where i live theres a joke that you can retire early but work "part time" as a door greater at Wal-Mart which they do this so they dont have to pay insurance benefits for there employees and they cut there shifts off by 30 minutes so they dont have to pay insurance benefits these are a few reasons why i dont like wal-mart

Wal-Mart is good if you just need to get one or two things.
Id rather go to Target if I had to, though.

We have...5 WalMart's in our town. All supercenters. We don't have many small chain markets.
It's pretty much just WalMart. You even have to go the next town over to get to a Target. They're building one now though, yay.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I don't like Wal-mart. Places like that creep me out. I just don't like places where you can buy your clothes, food and everything else in one place. I know the prices are great, and I got there for school supplies, but its kind of like a phobia for me. I just like having seperate stores for the things I buy. Like, Shop Rite for food, Kohls for clothes, ect. Sorry fif I sound like a jerk in any way shape or form. Feel free to quote I'd like to hear people's opinions about this.

You have to love Wally World. lol. I personally like it better than Target, I'm not sure why, maybe because it's closer and I go to it more. I don't really like buying my clothes there, maybe because I'm a teenage girl and I don't want to say I got my clothes at walmart, but I get movies and like the basic things there.

Same. In Florida we usually go to Publix too. But on other vacations we always use Walmart.
Walmart is just great for everything in general. They have all your living needs ;) We have a Walmart about..15 minutes from my house and it's a superstore so it's HUGE and I love it. :)

Im not gonna go into the details since i dony wanna sound like a rambling old man but thats one of the many reasons that the us economy is failing. I mean look at our dollar the canadian dollar is now worth more. I dont mean that 2 an insult to the canadian people here but the us dollar should be 1 and a half dollars more then it.

Classs shouldnt be an issue here. Some areas are obviously diffrent and sometimes places get better. Last weekend my family drove 2 Harlem 2 go to a barbecue place. We are all uptight becasue its Harlem. We went into Harlem and it wasnt any diffrent then the city. We didnt even know that we were in Harlem until we saw a sign for a theater we knew was there. Walmart jsut robs the us economy of many billions of dollars. Even though they employ massive ammounts of people but the cons outweigh the pros

Oh i would love to hear you tell me exactly what "welfare type" people are like. I was born to a teenage high-school drop out mother who was on welfare and Hudd at one point. My mom also went on to get her GED and masters degree in psychology. shes working for the state of tennessee right now, until she finishes all of her classes and can open her own therapists office. Oh yeah, my dad is becoming a lawyer too. I work as a freelance photographer and a waitress.
Now, i want to know why you are too good to shop with the likes of my family.
Oh, and btw, walmart is probably too expensive for a lot of people on welfare.

when did walmart become so controversial? i, personally, think it all depends on where you live. if you live near one where there is a lot of people who arent doing very well money-wise, then thats who youre going to see there. if you live in a rich neighborhood surrounded by lots of rich neighborhoods, then the people you see at walmart are going to be a bit different, arent they?

I talk that comment rather offensively.
My mother used to be on welfare and food coupons.
She didn't go to the bar every night and blow her money away as you like to say.
She was struggling to buy us food every week to keep us fed.
She NEVER went out to drink, because she kept us first
That was beyond rude.
Who cares if people think of your family as that? Other people's comments shouldn't bother you so much.

Yeah, we used to shop at Wal*Mart, but they kept it all crappy; everything was a mess. Then we walked into Target, and I like it a lot better. There's just something more appealing about it. Nothing specific.
And not to get involved in the big debate, but I don't think Wal*Mart should have anything to do specifically with social class or anything. That has more to do with where you live than anything.

So thats why Wal Mart is thought as lower class where i live due to its un clean dis organized long lines etc. thats how its thought as lower class where i live most people i know thinks of it as lower class and refer to it that way i'm sorry i grew up another way and have other feelings

i'll go most places with my pajamas on. i really don't care what people think about me. if you wanna call me low class, go ahead. its not going to make me think you're so cool. i don't look at what other people are wearing in stores, and i wait for the day i have nothing better to do than criticize the dress of people who are out shopping, because right now i don't have that kind of time on my hands. it'll be a welcome relief when i do.

since i work two jobs, i know that workers don't care what you're wearing. they care if you're nice, courteous, and pleasant to be around. I am all of the above. oh, and i tend to get a lot of compliments on my bright orange pajamas, anyway. I'd rather be comfortable and treated the same way as I would be if I were dressed up. Clothes don't make a person, and they don't make workers accept you anymore. Again I say, i long for the day I have nothing better to do than judge others on how they're dressed.

Clients with photography usually speak to me over the phone before ever meeting me. the meetings are set up and again, i'm wearing jeans and a tshirt. I don't usually tend to have people walk up to me out of the blue in walmart and say "hey, wanna take my picture?"
Customers at the restaurant see me in jeans and a tshirt, probably covered in stains, and my hair in a ponytail. yet somehow, i tend to triple my daily wage in tips.

i'm not living in an imaginary world. i'm living in the real world where i work for the money i have. not only do i work, but i make some pretty damn good money for what I do. call my world imaginary if you want, but i'm still really really good at what I do, and people are still wanting to pay me for my services. You really need to step off of your incredibly high pedestal, it's never going to get you anywhere.
Disneydance, that's crap and you know it.
Also, I think it takes really HIGH self-esteem to go out in your pj's and not care what the hell anyone else thinks. Let's see, I'm 15 and about to graduate high school, then start college at 16 and get a full-time job to help pay for it. But I should just give all that up, right? Because I'll never get anywhere since I go to walmart in my pajamas.

Ok i'm horrible i'm terrible i'm a B%$ch since i'm against Wal Mart I just have other feeling about it where i live there are alot of other places to shop and thats the way it is there is a Mall right next to the Wal Mart where i live and we would much rather by clothes there and there is a Haggen right across the street and we dont care about toys and we have a Target and a Costco if we need video games right next to each other and they are closer we have everything we need with out walking into a Wal Mart and JMO there prices arent any better than Targets. So thats why Wal Mart is thought as lower class where i live due to its un clean dis organized long lines etc. thats how its thought as lower class where i live most people i know thinks of it as lower class and refer to it that way i'm sorry i grew up another way and have other feelings

I really try not to judge people off their clothes or shoes or whatever, but if I see someone in pajamas in pubic I get the smallest twinge of laziness from them. It doesn't matter where they are, be it school, Walmart, walking down the street, going into a restaurant, or walking into a designer store. I just don't see what's so difficult about putting on a pair of jeans. I don't really understand how you would need a lot of self confidence to wear pajamas in public. Even if I'm just running uptown to get something from the local grocery store (we don't have any walmarts or target in my town, they're about 20+ minutes away) or gas station or something on a saturday i'd still put jeans on, because i'd be pretty embarassed if a teacher or other adult i respected saw me in my pajamas. i could care less what the kids in my school think though, because they're the ones who wear sweatpants or pjs to school every day.
this is just my opinion, though. i've been reading the thread and just wanted to put in my two cents. :)

Now there's nothing wrong with people wearing their pajamas in public. Nothing wrong with it. Even some of the most successful people wear pajamas to the grocery store and places. I self harm because sometimes it's what keeps me alive and sane. I have been suicidal. I have read over 500 books in my lifetime. I can speak at a conversational level in two languages and I understand enough of nearly 7 more to get by if I were ever in those countries. I have watched friends drink their lives away and be killed in car crashes. I've sat by unaware as a friend slips closer to death. I've been to three funerals for people under the age of 18. Two of them were the result of suicides. I can probably talk circles around you on the topics of the genocide in Darfur, the military dictatorship in Burma, the civil war in Rwanda, the nuclear energy crisis in the Middle East, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, gay marriage and equal civil liberties, illegal immigration (tell me, what's your stance on Mexicans crossing the border? I'd love to hear it), global warming, the oil crisis, the current presidential election and each major candidate, and even on the topic of Hugo Chavez and the current conflict with Venezuela. I have been sexually harrassed by people I once considered friends as well as my boyfriend. I have been cheated on and watched the boy that cheated on my have a child with his mistress. I have kept the only relationship that I thought I had a shot at succeeding in from my parents because it was with another girl. I have gone through bomb threats and gun scares. Police dog searches, lockdowns (not drills, actual lockdowns), school fires, befriending people only to have them become muderers. I have seen the dark side of people. I have seen the greed. I have been called a heathen and a stupid little girl because of my beliefs.
Do. Not. Tell me. That you have. A better view on the world than I do. Or even a better one than Shelby. Because. You're. Wrong.
Anyway.
I avoid Wal*Mart at all costs because of the fact that they get their clothes from sweat shops in China and Bangladesh and various other Asian/African/Middle Eastern/South American/Caribbean/Central American countries/cities that pay their workers as little as a penny a day. They do not subscribe to fair trade, they are in it for the fact that they're making an economic profit. I go to Wal*Mart only to print pictures because it's the only place in town with a Kodak Picture Maker.
I'd get into Thoreau's viewpoints, but my hands are cold and numb because I'm trying to conserve heat in my basement (tryin to ease the effects of global warming).

I'm embarrassed to go. Its because I don't want to be in the same class of people that do go to Walmart.
That rubbed me the wrong way. Everyone is human and is to be treated the same, whether you make 10,000 or 100,000 dollars a year. BTW, I found a bathing suit there once, and its the ONLY one that hasn't fallen apart like the others from other places. My family has plenty of money, but we still shop there.

And do you think people who are on welfare, choose to live that way? I can tell you it isn't fun, and its a huge struggle for them. Maybe be a bit more kind?
Count your blessings, because you never know what tomorrow could bring. Money isn't readily available.

I? Am 16. My mother works 70-80 hours a week in a city that is 100 miles from my home. I see her on weekends. My dad is an alcoholic and a smoker. I have lost all my grand parents and great grand parents but one due to some form of cancer or heart disease. My uncle is gay and has been ex-communicated by everyone in my family but me. I am bisexual and cannot come out to my family for fear of the same happening to me. I am an aunt who will probably never see my nephew because my sister resents me because my dad divorced her mom. My brother won't even speak to me anymore. I haven't seen either of them in 7 years. I am closer to my bus driver and my history teacher than I am to anybody in my family.

Maybe it was because I went directly from Target to Wal*Mart, but it just seemed a little dirty, and not so well kept.
Idk, maybe it's just the one near me.

Nah, we don't go there too often. Mom doesn't like it for politcal reasons and where they get their products, for the reasons Axel gave and because of a mistrust of many Chinese made products. (Not saying anything against China or the Chinese, but she just worries about the quality standards that the people who import their goods from there don't seem to have.) I don't like some of their policies myself, but I'd probably go there if need be.
We usually get groceries from Aldi's and other stuff here and there (Target, malls, places like that) and don't have much use for Wal*Mart. The groceries are a better price at Aldi's, for one thing. (Not at Target, though. Their prices can be crazy at times.)

See, I have an Aldi's near me but rarely go in. They have great prices but the food always seems to be expired, and the floor is really dirty. They have really nice produce though.
I really think it just depends on where you live.
ETA: Whoops. Mommy's accounts by accident.
In my house to leave the house you are expected to have on something nice and something you wouldnt be afraid to see your friends in and at my house if i left the house in PJ my dad would kill me

Do you know what it's like to have parents divorcing?
Do you know what it's like to have your parents ask YOU for money so they can pay the bills?
Do you know what it's like to live in the poor part of town?
Do you know what it's like to be told "We can't eat that sweetie,we don't have enough money!"?

Then tell me you've seen more than me.

I don't want to be regarded as anybody's hero just because I've lived through rough spots.
I hold anybody who is currently battling or who has battled cancer in high regard because it takes a lot to do that. And I like seeing people survive it because it gives me a little bit of hope. Right now my godmother's best friend (whom I consider an aunt) is battling breast cancer and a nasty strain at that. They said they had gotten it all and she went in for her breast reduction (so that her breasts would be equal) and they found more in her other breast. So she's back under chemo and everything. My actual aunt is also fighting breast cancer, but the chemo is really getting her and the fact that she's still smoking doesn't help.
Psst- my name's spelled with an 'i' at the end! I really hate to be nitpicky like that, but it's one of my pet peeves to see it with a 'y'. then I feel like I need to be tossed on a grill.

Thank you for your posts. You show that there are still mature people in this world. You defend your views with concrete points, not mindless judgments.
If you have a point of view to make, take a lesson from Patti, Sonya, and Shelby, and defend yourselves with real facts. Sometimes "your opinion" isn't good enough.
I don't understand how some people can make judgments about others. YOU have never been in their shoes, and untill YOU have...keep your mouth shut.
Sigh...
And yes as I stated before... I do shop at Walmart. Mainly for art supplies...their canvesas (sp?) are cheaper than Micheals' are. And yes I wear PJs in public...and I still consider myself to look presentable. I would not be "embearased" and neither should you. Heres a wake up call for everyone who worries about how complete strangers judge them...THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU. If you are happy and healthy, then who cares how you dress? :headache:

I seriously, seriously, seriously doubt it.
If you're saying, that your family doesn't shop at Walmart, because it's 'too low class' then YOU'RE probably living in the fantasy world. It appears that you think money is going to guarantee you happiness and everything, that everythings going to come a silver platter.
It's not. You're going to have to work to be successful.
You're twelve, you're in grade seven. You've only really seen the drama of middle school, which is the most pathetic kind of it. People don't realize much in middle school, it's an absorption of well, social life and or whatevers in (which apparently Wal-Mart isn't?). When you get older, you realize that you've got to go to school, and pay for that. Eventually, moneys not going to be so easily given to you, and you will probably shop at Walmart at some point in your life.
Even if your parents are wealthy, they aren't going to support you for the rest of your life. And once that supports gone, you've got to build your own way up, and yes, that means that you won't be 'freaking high class'.

Its a place where you buy things that are required in ure house. Can we please all stop judging each other. I mean like i live in New York City. Everyone is being judged by everyone else. All its dooing is making us do drastic things. And yes theeese days going out in your pajamas is in. Not carining is "cool". I just cant take this **** anymore. Everyday i go to school i get looked at cause i wore my t shirt more then once in the past year. God Damn! ughhh!!!!!

See, I have an Aldi's near me but rarely go in. They have great prices but the food always seems to be expired, and the floor is really dirty. They have really nice produce though.
I really think it just depends on where you live.

Ok so why cant me and Britany have are own opinons yes i realize that i will be on my own and i will have to buy things in college but my parents are paying for my college and dorm room etc. and i will be working a job.I also hate that people have to be rude to me and Britany just because we dont like Wal Mart and have other opinons there are alot of bad things about Wal Mart which is why we dont shop there alot i'm sorry that now everyone hates us so there you go i have the right to have my opinons

Hmm, how do I explain. It's pretty much like a discount market. They sell mostly generic items, which wouldn't bother me it's just that a lot of the things I've saw have been past or very near to their expiration date.

I don't meant to bring this up again but:
What you said and what other people said are completly different. If the Wal*Mart by you is gross, I understand. And I'm sure someone is going to come on and say "thats why I don't like it either!" when their other posts clearly state otherwise. If you have a bad expreince at Wal*Mart, thats fine. I respect that. Other things people were saying I don't appreciate. I respect almost everyones opinions, but like others who posted, some things just push my buttons.

Exactly.
I completely understand why some people wouldn't want to go to WalMart if the one closest to them was dirty or they didn't like where the products came from. But IMO, It crosses the line when they start saying things like "I'm too good to go to WalMart" etc.

Target is better in my opinion. Its neater, and smells alot better too. I go everywhere in my Pj's. Does that make me have low class or something?
My mom goes to walmart in her pj's. I'm not embarassed, go ahead and call her lazy I don't care, and neither does she.

I think the reason she was taking a lot of heat was not because she doesn't like Wal-Mart, but because of her reasons for it. She was saying things like only people on welfare go to Wal-Mart and how she doesn't want her family to be thought of like that, and that made a lot of people angry. A large portion of this board shops at Wal-Mart, and I would bet none of them are on welfare, not to mention the fact that MANY people on welfare are NOT alcoholics. She also attacked Shelby for wearing pajamas out, and that's ridiculous IMO.
You have perfectly fine reasons for not liking Wal-Mart. It sounds like the one near you is run poorly, which is a fine reason to not care for Wal-Mart. Like I said for me, I just like other brand names better. I guess it's kind of like Chevy and Toyota. Both make good vehicles, I just perfer the gold cross better.:confused3

Welfare is government aid. It comes in different forms. Some examples are food stamps (basically you have a card (think credit card) and the government fills it with money every month that you can only use to buy groceries). There's also medicaid which is a type of free/incredibly cheap health insurance. How much aid you get is basically determined by your income and family size. It really helps people who are in a financially tough situation.
Anyways, she was saying she didn't like to go to WalMart because to her only people on welfare shopped there. She also said people on welfare got that way because they're alcoholics. Which is, of course, and awful blanket statement.
Understand?

At least my local one.
They were unwilling to price match with Target (I think, either Target or Staples) for a digital camera.
Same exact Kodak 8.0MP camera,at Target (or Staples) for 89$ but soldout, and at Walmart for 150$ but in stock.

Well because thats what we see Wal Mart as in moments a place for lower income people to buy food I'm sorry but that has been my vision for years I'm not going to lie to you all and I truly do see Wal Mart as that i think it partially has to do with my parents comments but i'm sorry that i'm telling the truth of what I think

I was born as a very fortunate child. private school all my life and I live in nyc. I was raised that everyone is equal no matter what they have. U shouldn't be that snobby about a store. I can even partialy understand u saying that it was a place for people with less money 2 shop cause yeah I can see where ure coming from but u really shouldn't narrow out people for where they shop. Then u said that all people on welfare where alacholics. There u crossed the line. First off u can't saay that one whole group of people are alacholics. That's generalizing which is completly wrong. And second of alacholism is a serious problem. Many people die every year from it and its a serious problem. Personaly I hate walmart. Its destroying our economy here in america but NEVER would I generalize that all the people in the store were people on welfare. I mean how can u tell what a peron on welfare looks like. There's no way 2 tell and u wanna know why, cause there normal human beings just like all of us.

Its just doesnt sounds right.
Whatever, you dont need to be a snot about it thought.
Well actually you were being kind of a snob. Calling someone a liar is not nice either.
Don't try to make her upset. You've never her family. I believe she is telling the truth.
My goodness.
And disneydance, nobody hates you. They have NEVER met your family. Being crap head jerks won't get them anywhere. Just ignore them.

Okay Katie and Austin,
You are both entitled to your opinion and no one can take that away from you.
Katie, you may hate wal*mart but you shouldn't say, ("Well because that's what we see Wal Mart as in moments a place for lower income people to buy food"). Many people shop there including myself, and you should not downsize people for where they shop. So, you think everyone who shops at wal*mart is low class, I take offense to that, but Im not going to hate you for it ?
Austin, I think you said you also dislike wal*mart, okay, also your opinion. But you can not argue with her beliefs. She has always seen wal*mart that way, which might be right or wrong. But you or I or anyone cant change how she feels.
Oh and another thing, Cassidy ? Calling people craphead jerks ? That is beyond disrespectful. I know your new, so Im not going to hate you or anything but still thats just rude.
So Lets just drop it, okay ?

Please do not stereotype people without knowing the full story.
And if you're referring to the 'crap head jerks' as those who disagree with Disneydance, then yes, I do take offense to this.
