On our April trip, we have reservations for the first night for a DVC studio at AKL, then the rest at Beach Club, with the first night waitlisted there. Part of me almost hopes the waitlist doesn't come through even though it'll be a pain moving resorts, I'm anxious to try out staying at the AKL/AKV though I think I'll wait until the new building is done before booking an entire stay there. Plus I think I'd want a car the whole time if I was staying there.

Well, if the waitlist comes through, we won't be at AKV at all, and with the trip a good five months away, I'd be surprised if it doesn't. But if it doesn't, that's OK too. :) I'll probably do a full trip report again even though we'll be there "only" 7 days. :teeth:

January 2006 we did a split stay at AKL and OKW. At AKL we had room 5030, which I believe would have been caught up in the conversion and would now be a DVC villa, which overlooked the pool but also had a limited view of the Uzima Savanna. All taken using my trusty 3.1 mp Canon Powershot S1 IS...

They were not Disney related. I did see a name on one of the balloons, but never noted it down at the time.

that's ok - I will just have to let YOU know how it was. ;)

I just finished our ADR's for our trip and also booked cat. 1 seats for La Nouba - we have seen it once before about 6 or 7 years ago and have been wanting to go again.

I am really excited about staying at AKV now - I think the 70-200mm L lens will be the perfect tool to take along for that savannah view. ;)

This is a great thread!! We visited WDW for the first time in January and stayed at AKL. We are now going to rent DVC points and stay at AKV in May 2009 and I'm already "too excited to sleep"... We are taking my mom and dad with us - it will be their first trip to WDW ever :) We are staying in two AKV studios - Savannah view. Does anyone have pics of these studios???

If you look at post #5 of this thread there is a photo link to my Webshots album. The room pictures in that album are of a DVC Studio taken back in September.

You have to join a site like Photobucket.com . From there you upload whatever pictures you want to post. After you upload your images, it automatically shows you various links to your photos that you would copy and paste in a post here. You would use the ["IMG"] ["/IMG"] code. Just copy and paste your links. It's easy!

I'm very happy that someone led me to this thread. This is the resort where I have always wanted to stay. I'm receiving another college degree this year after years of postponing to start a family. I have visited this resort for dinner and each time have said that it is the resort that moves me the most. The pictures remind me why I love it so much. GDad I love, love, love the soft yellow lighting in your pictures. What lens did you use? Keep the pictures coming, you're helping me through a difficult Monday morning.

Hey Jen,
I have a special request if you don't mind. Since you are nice to suggest post a live-stream from AKL, will you take one from around the pool area leading to Mara? We have booked the pool-view and are very curious as to which trail to request upon checking in. Which side do you think is better?

I am not sure how easy it will be for us to do this. We would have to walk around with the lap top and the web cam connected to it. And - they you would have to be viewing at the exact time I do it. BUT - I will try to get some photos for you. :)

Thanks. I am trying to remember I think I used 3 different lenses on those. My canon 28-135 IS, canon 70-200L and my sigma 10-20.

As far as settings - they are all different. I shoot totally manual now unless I am doing something where I need a fast shutter speed then I will turn to shutter priority. I know I did all of these on manual and I would have to go back and look up the settings. If you go to my smugmug gallery you can see the settings - at least you should by clicking on the I in the pop up window when you put your mouse cursor on the photo and not the thumbnail.

Thanks - I am not sure if this has something to do with the camera - or what it is but I have always gotten really vivid colors with the 30D. Sometimes almost TOO vivid for my tastes. And yes - a circular polarizer is something I do not leave home without. ;)

Normally I wouldn't have taken so many but I had a few requests for pictures of the food offerings in the lounge. Oh and I forgot this one! With the Olympic Coke cans in circulation right now the lounge only had the Ethiopia ones in their cooler. Way to keep with a theme!

The rate board that usually hangs on the door of hotel rooms was hidden on the door of the closet in the master bedroom.
The rate listed was $2175 per night.:scared1:
That's why we joined the DVC! :cheer2:

We saw a lot of animals from the balcony!
It was interesting because the savannah wasn't that big with the construction fence up, but the ankole cattle, giraffes and zebras were pushed closer to the rooms.

So we saw and even heard the animals feeding and we even saw little Kidani, he was really cute!

The safari trucks for the Sunset Safari also rode through the savannah. It was an open top truck, but once, it was raining really hard and they had the tarp covering the top of the truck.

They rode slowly past a giraffe who stopped and "posed"!
I saw the riders taking pictures, they were ooohing and ahhhing, they seemed to be having a great time.

I'm really excited about this. Unfortunately we will only be staying for 1 night as we are going on the Disney Magic the next day. But since we are not going into the parks we should really get to enjoy the resort.

Rooms on the 5th and 6th floors were converted to DVC units.
But since they are DVC, there are no concierge privileges.
I wish there were, but I understand the reasoning.

So there will be a limited number of villas in Jambo House and when Kidani opens, it will be all DVC.

You guys are welcome. This was our first time onsite, and I am not sure if any other resort will ever measure up to this one. I just love the whole laid back atmosphere here, plus there were so many photo opportunities. I would love to see it at Christmas.

Great Photos - I just had to give up a week's stay at the 1BR Concierge DVC. I am heartbroken. :sad2: I am not sure if your pictures made me happy or sad.:lmao: They are beautiful and reminds of why I am looking forward to my next trip, but sad because I am not going in 3 weeks. :rolleyes1

Hi, Penny! I am sorry you won't be headed there in 3 weeks too. Are you unable to go at all?? We had to give up our AKL vacation for next month but have salvaged it with longer time at POFQ.

Oh my goodness! :yay: These pictures are SOOO amazing! I'm getting married in 25 days :love: :hug: :bride: and we're already booked for a Studio at AKV in September 2009! Love all the photos, they are so inspiring. I'm so excited for our return trip in December! Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post my ?, but you guys are the obvious experts. Last time we stayed Pool View on Zebra Trail (Room 4428) and we were so happy. We really loved Zebra Trail b/c as we walked down the hall to our room, we had animals to view off one side and the pool off the other. Our balcony view, however, was a bit dull. It overlooked a tiny kiddy pool (a big puddle really) with the main pool kinda off in the distance at an angle. Any suggestions or photos (with room #'s) of a better pool view? We would like to stay on Zebra Trail, if possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :worship:

We are planning a trip in April and hoping to stay here on some borrowed DVC points. I can't wait. We visited this resort last April when we ate at Boma's for breakfast.:cloud9:

We will probably be staying in a Value Studio or Standard View Studio. Any pics of those will be great.

Excellent photos everyone! I have wanted to stay at AKL for many years. We made our ressies last night and after looking at all of these photos, I think that I am going to love it even more than I initially thought. :woohoo:

im staying at kadani feb28th-march6th and I'm very worried about the distance from everything after reading all the post. How long does it take to get to MK??

If I remember correctly, it takes about 15 or 20 minutes to get to MK. Less than 15 minutes to get to the other parks.

I've got a few interiors from last week while I was there - however I left my DSLR back at the room since we were just going to Jiko for dinner. While waiting, I played around with my new ultra-compact pocket cam just to see how the twilight 6-frame stacking mode worked with handheld high ISO shooting. Here's what I got - this tiny little camera is surprisingly usable in low light handheld:

I just went through this entire thread and the pics are amazing!!!

I'm getting outrageously excited now for my first trip to AKL in June...I really don't know how I'm going to make it! :rotfl: AKL is my dream resort and we upgraded to it from Pop since Disney extended their promotion into the summer. When we get back I'll try to post some pics on this thread.

We are visiting WDW at the end of May. I picked the AK Lodge specifically so that I can take some good pics of the animals at the beginning and end of the days.

Where are the best spots to do so? I'm sure that there are some obvious spots (such as your balcony), but where are those special, hidden spots where you have gotten some great animal shots?

Looking forward to my visit!

We're renting points and staying in an AKL DVC Savannah studio for the end of Nov/beginning of Dec.

Ironic since we aren't big fance of the AK park but love the AKL and Jiko is one of our favorite restaurants. Can't wait to stay there.

So I have another 8 months before I can add new photos but will enjoy what is here now until then. :)

Great thread and I love looking at these pictures. I just bought my DVC and my home resort is AKV and I just booked a stay there for December. I'm taking my mom and dad along as a way of thanking them for everything they have done for me in my life and they both are going to blown away by the beauty of AKL/AKV.
