View Full Version : Marne La Vallee to Charles De Gaulle-Etoil - Cost??
Hi everyone.
I am trying to find how much it would cost for a return ticket from Marne La Valee to the Charles De Gaulle-Etoil station?
I figure we would be able to see a couple of sights (arc de triomphe and eiffel tower) on foot.
Also, does anyone have a good map, or good directions from the Arc de Triomphe to the Eiffel Tower?
Thanks!

It's around €6 each way, though you can buy a mobilis zones 1-5 for €12 which will give you a days unlimited travel on the paris transport network.
I've no map but I have simple instructions:
The tower is a 10 minute walk from the arc. The arc itself is in the middle of a large round-a-bout. Whilst standing on the champs elysees, looking at the arch, head to the left side of the round-a-bout and head down the road named "Avenue Kleber" If starting on the round-a-bout at Champs Elysees, it is the 3rd exit on the left.
Follow this street for 5-10mins and you will arrive at another round-a-bout. Here you will find the Trocadero. Head left off the round-a-bout and you should be able to see the tower. Walk down the steps, past the fountains, over the bridge and you are there! It's a nice walk and will take you past a Ferrari shop amongst other things.

I'd also buy a 1 Day Pass (Zones 1-5) as all your transportation (Metro and RER) will be on this.
You can take the RER Line A (Red Line) straight to Charles de Gaulle Etoile, and from there to the Eiffel Tower, take Metro Line 6 (Mint Green) to Bir-Hakeim and go from there to see the Eiffel Tower, if you do not wish to walk.
Personally, and I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but I prefer the Arc to the Tower, simply because of the view. Undoubtedly the Tower is very romantic at night looking out onto the twinkling lights of Paris, but with the Arc, you get a view of the Parisian rooftops and the Eiffel Tower towering them... unbeatable!

Whilst I agree it's a fantastic view, it can be bettered!!! If you go to the Galleries Lafayette (huge department store in the Opera district) go to the top floor and you can go out onto the roof. You can see the whole of Paris from up there and it's completely free! The view of the tower is stunning.
Here's some pictures from up there:

HappyTappy - Thanks for that! I'm always on the lookout for new things to see and do in Paris! We are going again in Jan, but with DBF's brother and girlfriend who have never been so they want to go see the Tower and Arc, even though it'll be the 3rd visit to them running for us!!
But with a whole day in Paris, I'm going to try and get them over to Angelina's for the hot chocolate, and now to Galerie Lafayette - which is in 9eme right, so if I remember it's close to Pigalle so we can drop by there too :)
Off to plan!!

From what I know, Angelina's is on Rue de Rivoli and they apparently do the best hot chocolate - Chocolat L'Africains. You can find lots of reviews of the place on Virtual Tourist.
I should imagine they'd be open over the Christmas period. We hope to go January 8th.

Angelinas is on Rue de Rivoli alongside Jardin des Tuileries.
It is an old fashioned tea room (similar to Bettys in York for those who may have been there).
They serve lots of cakes and a variety of meals/snacks and drinks but their speciality is the hot chocolate- Africaine. It is like melted chocolate served in a jug with a bowl of whipped cream to add as you like. It is very very rich and DD didnt like it but its so yummy if you like chocolate.
There are some photos on our summer trip report (think day 2 or 3)
