I would like to buy my parents a digital camera for Christmas. My mom has had her camera for decades and it's time to go digital!

Ideally I'd like something SIMPLE. I have a Canon Powershot and it would be way too complicated for them. I saw an HP at Walmart that looked very simple (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=6537108)....the less buttons the better! I'd also like something considered "value" say, less then $150.

They don't need advanced features, just something that will take good pictures.

Thanks so much for your advice!

Unless they are just intimidated by buttons, all cameras in that range are going to have an auto mode. Just point and press the shutter. I have had a few Powershots and think the line is a very solid performer. I have also been impressed with Fuji. To be honest though, you are not going to find much of a difference in brands at that level as long as it is a major name brand.

I bought this for my mother for mothers day this year and she loves it she told me the other day that she was frustrated with her other cameras and was about to give up on picture taking until i bought her this. She has already taken almost 1000 pics (i know not alot for some of us but for her thats quite a few)

I think the Panasonic LZ series offers lots of value

The LZ6 gives you
7mp
Optical image stabilization
6x optical zoom
Not exactly compact but does fit in a jacket pocket.

Circuit City currently has it at $139
