Hi UK DISers!

I am from the US and just have a question? Since it is legal in your country- do any of you drink Absinthe???:confused3

The USA has JUST started allowing a few brands into the country in May and October- GOD FORBID we let the "green fairy" touch our precious PC lips! It may ruin the country as we know it! :sad2:

I placed an order on line for a bottle and I have read a lot about it.....I know it does not cause hallucinations. ;)

I was just wondering actually how it does make you feel and how much do you usually drink??

Thanks guys!:thumbsup2

never actually tried it but I know people who drink it, usually as a quick fix solution for getting out of their tree! personally I don't like anything that makes me feel out of control so I steer well clear.

I've had it once! Seriously i think they try and limit it to 2 shots per customer over here because it's so strong. unfortunately when I had mine I had been drinking lots of vodka already, from what blurry bits I remember I had one 25ml shot, was violently sick and passed out...the next thing I knew I was waking up on my friends floor the next day and had been sick in her bin throughout the night....

It has the same effect as most other spirits ;)
Just remember that the strength of Absinthe can vary, dramatically, between brands.

I drink it the 'traditional way' with water and sugar or, occasionally, with lemonade :)

As for how much of it I can drink, the answer is 'far too much' :lmao:

I know that alcohol content does vary- we ordered the Suisse La Bleue which is 53%- for some reason DH can calculate that into proof in a heartbeat:lmao:

I read that with the Swiss brands- you do not need to add sugar b/c it is a bit more sweet:confused3

So, I am still curious- it just makes you feel "drunk" like a regular drunk feeling- I do not drink much so I am sure I will not be taking more than one shot and waiting!:sad2:

DH on the other hand, likes his alcohol on the rocks. Rum is his favorite.

Sorry to sound like such a Absinthe newbie:lmao: Actually I checked the internet and there is a liquor store about 15 minutes from me that now sells it:headache: Yes! after I paid WAY too much on line! Right now we can get Lucid and Kubler here- I read that Kubler is better than Lucid.

I saw just last week that Marilyn Manson (he has his own brand) was in Vegas to promote Kubler now being sold in the US- I figure if it's good enough for him- it's a good choice for me!:rotfl2:

Thanks everyone-

I still want to hear more of your thoughts on the stuff!;)

I have to say that I like it :thumbsup2

Yes, it makes you feel drunk but I found that I didn't feel 'hung over' afterwards.

Personally I put this down to the water and suger I drink with it but guess that everyone will have their own experiences :goodvibes

Ok I've drunk it several times, normally two shots consumed in a sitting, and have to say generally when I have consumed other alcohol;) Heres what I think: you don't think it has done anything until it hits you!!
I thought i was ok until i tried to stand up and yikes! It was like a wave coming over me. It has quite a kick to the taste which can get stuck if you are not used to strong spirits, but its not half bad. And while I did not halucinate, apparently there are certain things that i do not remember from my night out in Spain, and i don't remember feeling drunk at any point or out of control, yet woke up fairly early feeling as fresh as a daisy, so no hangover like alison said.

I would do it again but only the one, it is very very strong but is pleasant, no after effects, but clearly drink with caution.

That helps- after the first shot-- WAIT! I will certainly take caution.

DH thinks we might have it here by Thanksgiving, we are having dinner here. His 2 brothers are alcoholics- I told him- you are NOT wasting our 135.00 bottle of Absinthe on those 2!

He pulled out the 150 yr old Grand Marnier last year and the one gulped it right down! DH was like:scared1: savor the flavor man! Enjoy it for a while! He put the bottle away after that. Heck- how can you waste a shot of 150 Grand Marnier on 2 guys who drink Miller Lite:snooty: :lmao:

I think it will be train wreck if he pulls this bottle out!:sad2: He said one shot each and then I get to hide it!

I also learned....... don't go to Spain b/c it partially robs you of your memory!:rotfl2: :lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl: I don't think it was entirely Spain's fault!
Seriously, yeah go one shot at a time, give yourself 15 to 20 mins and see how you feel then, it might just be me:lmao: and do NOT let your 2 brother-in-laws waste it, enjoy it for yourselves:thumbsup2

Blimey, that is some expensive Absinthe but I do remember paying 'silly money' for a bottle, online, before it was so readily available here :rolleyes1

It is coming from Germany- over to Great Britain then to here, where customs shall seize it and I will never see it! :rotfl2:

- the shipping was the same price as the bottle!:lmao:

We don't drink it, but it was a wake up call to our taste buds when we ate some from a box of chocolates from Hotel Chocolate (sp?). An alcoholic selection box earlier this year. I liked it DH wasn't keen I guess it's one of those flavours you know like marmite you either love it or hate it:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hi

I've had it quite a few times while out with friends and to be honest I dont find it actually any different from other shots you buy.

I usually end up drinking it as a shot and have a few spaced out in the night I hate to admit it but other shots added to the mix also :scared1: :rotfl: it just helps speed up the process of getting completely trollied (not that I get out much anymore :sad1: )

Enjoy!

I like the sound of it. We are in Spain for New Year. Perhaps we can give it a try then.

Thanks for letting us know about it. I love trying new things. especially alcohol.

But you can try it now, where you live! Why wait!? Get nuts!:yay:

Me, on the other hand, I am patiently waiting for my UPS guy to show up at my door. :rotfl2:
