My husband walked out on me and the kids last summer and left behind everything to move in with his new girlfriend, so I kept the brand new camara.... :woohoo: Ok, I have this camara, Canon digital rebel EOS.. Which I know the basic but would like some help on how to take picture of... let's say Spectromagic parade, action shots, any tip would be great... since I can find the manual to it.
Thank you for your help!

Hiya ChevyNat.
Which rebel exactly do you have, there is the original, XT or XTi.
Also, which lens(es) do you have to go with it?
Another thing you should get is a copy of Understanding Exposure, it is a very easy to read explination on how making different changes will effect your pictures.

If you do not mind reading, pick up Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure. It is a great book on learning how to use a DSLR. You might also pick up a 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. It is only about $100 brand new and would really help with low light shots. Also, I am terribly sorry for what you have had to endure. Just do not share any of the great shots you are going to take, with him ;)

The dlsr camera can take a pretty good picture in auto mode. But it can also do much more.
Great leaps (from what a point and shoot camera can do) can be achieved with just a little reading.
Another great thing is that you can come here and ask a question and get answers just as if you were taking a class.
I tried to find the manual but had no luck. I would start with that, just learn the buttons. Well some of them. You will learn more as you need them.

Once you are comfortable using the camera check out some of the How To Shoot: threads started by our very own Mark Barbieri.
A lot of excellent photographers also contribute tons to the photography board.

Don't forget, after you get used to the camera, send some of your favorite pictures to your ex to show him how much fun you're having.:goodvibes

Here's a link to the manual for the EOS Digital Rebel XT and EOS 350D Digital.

The Canon site won't let me link directly to the file. But this is the page. You want the file called EOSDRXT350DIM-EN.pdf

I have an XT and bought the book "Canon Eos Digit Rebel Digital Field Guide" It's basically a lot like a manual, but it has pictures and tells you how to use the camera. It talks about the Rebel and the XT. I also have the Understanding Exposure" book.
I have to say that I learned most from this board though, the people here are so friendly and helpful! :thumbsup2 (Thanks everyone!)

Sorry, but that just cannot be done with your camera. The brand new DSLRs are starting to have that as a feature, but not the one you have. It is better to hold up to your eye anyway if it makes you feel any better.

I knew I could not do that... thank you so much for the info... a friend of mine was dead set on trying to put it on the screen and I kept on saying that you could not do that ha! ha!
I'm starting to fiddle with it a little more... have to get it perfect for my Oct 2008 trip!

I had a film rebel for 6 years before I took it off auto, or at least the auto program modes! I was always pleased with the pictures. If you are venturing and learning about the camera now, good for you! Good luck with it! I am learning a lot about mine, and it's fun to challenge yourself and learn.
