Just wanted to share what I perceive to be a very good www.skyauction.com buy:

Basically it is a getaway week for $179 buy it now price (plus I would assume $20 admin fee).

57 currently available.

Last night they had the same auction up for 50+ getaway weeks and within hours they were all gone.

Current auction number is #1340183 or if you can't look it up this way go to search and type in the word holiday and it will show up (will have to scroll down to locate it).

This looks like a nice deal. But what resorts around Disney participate? I did a search for some summer dates next year and nothing available. I wouldn't want to buy it and then nothing ever come available. Will things be available closer to the date?

It says you can only bring as many people as the condo allows. So, if I end up with a studio for 2, I would lose out on the $$.

Has anyone done this and gotten a place for 6 or 4?

I just can't take a huge risk if I can't even use the vacation.

Thanks,

Dawn

I bought 3 this morning. I figure that even if they don't have Orlando 2 bedrooms in Jan., there are always Williamsburg, and the North East at different times of the year.

You pick the condo from the list given. So, you just don't "buy" a studio.

yes there will be some more.

skyauction is strange. it is best for people who can travel at the last minute. because of the getaways are last minute.

look about a month before you are going and you should find something. look 2 weeks and you might find better resorts.

but no guaranteeds!!!!

right now there is nothing for March, 2008 - but in a couple of months - there MIGHT be.

How do you look to see when availability is?

Sorry, the only SkyAuction deals I have ever gotten were pre-set dates and pre-set condos.

Thanks for all your help.

Dawn

PS: We only like to go during off-season anyway, so it might be easier to find something larger.

If you look at the listing, there is an underlined space "getawayweeks" that take you to a calendar for the date, place and size of the unit. Right now, there are only 1 bedrooms available for my dates. It was a risk, but, as I stated earlier, the fact that they are good thru 2009 gives us apretty good chance of using them.

Thank you. I will look. I purchased 3. My DH is going to flip IF I decide to tell him! :rotfl2: He wanted me to start a separate savings account for Disney, but this is cheaper in the long run to find deals and snag them and have them available!

also do not forget to look at the meal and resort stay deals....

they offer certificates for 100$ for restaurants all over the country in addition to the SAME resort certificate that you can use on "getawayweeks"......cost can be as low as 216$ if you win the auction for 1$.....net cost for week if you can find a restaurant near you to use the certificate would be 116$

since getawayweeks is excess inventory from RCI ....there is no way to guarantee there will always be "availability", but you do get to choose

for orlando Cypress Palms by Fairfield seems to show up a lot, it is a decent resort ...we got a 2 bedroom but they do not seem to be showing up for january/february 2008.....stay away from the one bedrooms with Partial Kitchens, even the resort staff say they are "smallish"

the good thing about the certificate is its shelf life ....into 2009

search using the terms......steak surf pasta or surf

you also might use the terms "room and board"

or better still

We bought 3 yesterday and plan to buy 3 more tomorrow. We have a large family group going in May and were planning to stay at Silverlake anyways so we are going to use 3 of them for 2 bedroom condos near each other. The other 3 are going to be used by my parents (retired and can go anytime they want).

This is our first time using them so I hope it works out OK.

Does anyone know if there will be any unheard of fees? Any help will be great.

hopefully, they will have the inventory you want when you are going, no guarantees

there should not be any other fees, but each resort is different ( have heard some charge "housekeeping fees/resort fees", you best bet would be to call Silver Lake

this is what is showing for silver lake right now for 2 bedrooms for MAY....it would be wise to book soon ...from the descriptions above, it seems they might have two types of Two Bedrooms

a call to Silver Lake should clear up what their accomodations descriptions mean

a lot of the resorts listed now only have 1 bedrooms ( probably resorts where lock outs units make up the two bedrooms )

good LUCK

How soon after purchase can you book your week or weeks? Is it better to have a "wait and see" attitude towards weeks in the future? I know it is that way for getravelop, but I wonder if this draws from the same availability pool.

These look great to me!

as soon as you have the certificate "number" you can call the getawayweeks venue ( you will also need the "expiration date" to give to the vacation counselor )

the inventory is probably very similar to travelop if not the same pool ( they have invntory that they have to move so it does not matter where it moves from )

as to the question about wait and see....it is always a gamble

case in point we booked a new mexico resort in a two bedroom for next april as soon as we got the certificate, thinking we should book as soon as possible, but upon checking a couple of weeks later they had inventory for 3 bedrooms at the same resort for the same time period..( just out of curisoity, just checked and they still have availability at the resort in new mexico albeit just the two bedrooms now )....you just never know... a lot depends on the time of year and the location/demand of the resort

most of these weeks should not be exchange weeks but rather surplus weeks provided to RCI by the resorts ( this changes all the time, the better resorts seemed to have reigned in their RCI offereings ....thus the changing complexion of resorts from what used to be offered on Skyauction )

they ups the certificates to you once the processing has taken place, however the certificate number will be listed in your "vacations" attached to the auction number on the website, thus you can get the # earlier but you do need to know when the certificate expires, the vacation guides will ask for the information when you try to book sometihing on getawayweeks

they have certificates related to getaway weeks all the time....under different names....but they will always say something like

7 Night Stay at the Resort of Your Choice within the description

use the above term to seach ....

they also have a ready set go auction ( which draws from the same inventory ) but are auctions which are more expensive since they in the past have gone for an average of 50$ but have 195$ + 20$ processing fee

this is a good way to try out a timeshare ( albeit you are not gonna get into a lot of Gold Crown resorts from this inventory )

sweet maxine - it took a couple of days to get my email with certifaicate numbers in them. Hopefully yours should be here soon.

Once I had the resort certificate numbers, you just look on getawayweeks.com and see what availability is for your dates - then book the resort with the 800 # provided in your email. It was a pretty easy process.

last time we tried to use one, we only had the certificate number

they may just be emailing the certificate numbers for these auctions ( in which case you have the number and can just state the expiration as what is posted on skyauction ), with the food and stay auctions they had to ups the "dining certificates" thus it took a bit longer but they sent you an actual brochure with the ceritificate number on it

what availability will dry up?

there will always be availability somewhere within the RCI system.....we used one of these last year for an Easter week in Barrie Ontario at Carriage Ridge Resort

with regards to Orlando, the better resorts my be snagged and there are not a lot of 2 bedrooms listed in the searches we have done ....there was a time when you would see Vacation Village on getaway weeks....so that has dried up

what size unit.....

avoid the celebration world resort with partial kitchen very small

same with cypress palms, if you see a two bedrooms for this resort ......it is a good deal....you can call and ask for a refurbed unit before check in.....they are not too far from Disney entrance on 192 ...they do not have guarded entry gates ...we are staying there november 30 december 7...in a two bedroom

any rci unit with westgate is usually not well received ( early westgate units were RCI, they are now with II )

Cypress Pointe and Silver Lake have the best Disney access but Silver Lake ineriors seemed to tile and mirrors ....come to think of it...some westgate units are like that )

Cypress Palms is near a lot of restaurants and grocery store. It's about 3-4 miles from WDW and I dorve by and it looks good...Not bad.

I have also been told that Silver Lake (not Silver Points) is nice also, just not brand spanking new, but still very nice and they are on the same property as Silver Lake Silver Points (it's one big complex)

I'm guessing that unless you are traveling in the next couple of months, it is not a necessity to book right now, right? I have looked at dates up to Oct., and I'm just not sure at this point what to do. Is anyone booking dates that far into the future right now?

Editing to add...we've stayed at Polynesian Isles, and I would definitely stay there again! The staff was friendly, and the accommodations were nice. A very nice 2 BR condo!!

Cypress Pointe would be my first choice since it is so close to DTD, then Cypress Palms (JUST NOT the one bedroom partial kitchen, it must say one bedroom FULL KITCHEN to be roomy). A two bedroom would be even better but as long as you get a one bedroom FULL KITCHEN that is a really nice unit as well (approx 800 + sq. ft).

Watch out for Silver Lakes/Silver Points, aren't they charging extra housekeeping fees (fees vary by unit size I think) for ALL check-ins???

Can't say enough good about staff at Cypress Palms. Really nice clean units also (the two I have stayed in along with the several others I have seen).

Alhambra I think is FAR from Kissimmee.

Jan 19 thru Feb 10.

If a one bedroom would work, Wyndam Cypress Palms, Celebration World Resort, and Club Sevilla have some availability.

Darn, thats too bad. did you try calling back and talking to someone else? That is strange that you could see the inventory and the RCI/getaway guide said it was not there.

I have learned form reading DIS that sometimes they have inventory that you cannot see. A DISer called to enquire about Orlando months ago and was offered excellent inventoryt hat was not showing up in getaway weeks.

I also once booked a one bedroom and was asked twice by the RCI guide if a one bedroom unit would be large enough ? I thou ght it was odd since thats all I could see ont he getaway weeks web site for the particular check in date. Not until after I got off the phone did I realize that I think he would have offered me a two bedroom if I had simply asked for it!!!! No biggie, my kids love the queen pullout in the living room of the one bedroom units (the MAGIC bed they call it, since it is a couch that turns into a bed, must be MAGIC).

If I was you I would call back a couple times and ask about inventory in Orlando for your date. Maybe Silver Lake (or something even better) might be available but for whatever reason it is not showing up on the getaway weeks web site.

No...there are 6 of us. I know that Orbit One is available, but I don't want to stay there all three weeks! I'll just have to wait it out! :headache:

Thanks!

I've found the best times to look for new inventory is very late Friday night (11:30 pm or so) and first thing Sunday morning. RCI takes their website down every Saturday evening for an update and alot of new inventory is added at that time.
However, inventory can pop up at any time. I've seen good things added at 11 am on a Tuesday morning before, and be gone in a matter of minutes. RCI has many avenues for selling their inventory, including travel agents. We often times have access to different inventory that other avenues do not (i.e. Vacation Village properties), and it changes very quickly at times. Some resorts don't like their inventory being posted on Getawayweeks because they know it can be had so inexpensively.
What I've found with RCI is nothing is ever a "sure thing". If you see something you like, grab it while you can.

So do you think this is only beneficial for off season travel? I'm just not seeing anything for summer months or spring breaks. I know that's peak season but the only time we can go. Just wondering if I should even chance it.

I can't imagine anything coming available for peak times. So if I were you, I would forgo this offer but check skyauction on and off for your dates and then just get a one then. That way, you are not out any money if your dates don't come up.

I look quite often for weeks 51 and 52 (Christmas and New years Week) and have NEVER found anything. ONCE (in 2005) I saw a buy it now ($599) on skyauction for a 3 bedroom at Summer Bay about a month before check in for New Years week, but thats it. I would not purchase this offer if considering high season weeks.

as long as it is not villas at summer bay .....they do not receive the best revriews, the condos at summer bay are the better choice

Ok, I'm back. lol.
We are most likely going to a conference in May (the week before mother's day) and it will just be DH & I. I'm thinking according to what is showing: Cypress Palms 1 bedroom FULL kitchen. We really aren't picky. We've stayed in CHEAP hotels in Orlando. ;) So, we can't beat this deal, unless something is just icky! I don't do icky. lol.

Booked a 1 bedroom condo at Summer Bay resort for 5/10/08 to 5/17/08. This will be perfect. Ive researched a ton and this will be great. My girls are so excited about the water playground! BTW- we are not doing Disney on this trip, just Seawold (which I know is about 16 or so miles away), and a mostly Rest and relaxation. Super excited!!!!!!

Has anyone stayed at Daytona Beach or some of the other Florida options thru SkyAuction certificates?

riu girl
11-27-2007, 06:52 PM
Siesta Key (Siesta Sands I think), Mizner Place (near Fort Lauderdale).

Have not seen either show up in getaway weeks inventory for over a year.

Check the reviews of any you are considering in the Daytona Beach area. Haven't been there for a few years (and also not through skyauction) but when we were there , we looked at a few RCI properties and some looked very worn/tired.
reviews of any getaway weeks inventory can usually be found on www.rci.com or www.tripadvisor.com

yes there will be some more.

skyauction is strange. it is best for people who can travel at the last minute. because of the getaways are last minute.

look about a month before you are going and you should find something. look 2 weeks and you might find better resorts.

but no guaranteeds!!!!

right now there is nothing for March, 2008 - but in a couple of months - there MIGHT be.

What would you estimate is the chance of getting something in June 2008? If I check often, especially near the date.

Maggie

skyauction will have something in the summer - but it may not be Orlando.

then with skyauction it may.

I think in your case would wait and see if the time you are going comes up in one of their regular auctions. Definitely more expensive. but then you know what your dates are.

using this thing - you really have to be patience and grab it immediately.

right now on last minute for Dec with RCI there are a ton - but the getaways to skyauction - there are still only a few. but on RCI there are 10 pages of them and it list 12 on each page.

Do you think a 2 bedroom in Orlando for February is possible or is that considered a peak time.

spiceycat
11-28-2007, 03:22 PM
disney has peak season starting after Presiden't week.

I have seem President's week several times in the regular auctions for skyaction last year.
