Someday, I want to host a swap. But the mail people on this route like to stuff the envelopes in my little box instead of leaving them in the office with the boxes and things get a little bent sometimes. It's fine for my stuff, but I wouldn't want the packages with stuff going to everyone else to get messed up. Hopefully, in Denver, there will be no shoving things in tiny boxes.

I'm lucky Hope, I live in a condo with community mailboxes and at the bottom of each set there are 2 large boxes with seperate keys. If something doesn't fit in your regular box it goes in one of the larger ones and the key is put into your box. It's awesome for stuff like this (oh and online shopping)

pretty in tink and I have been talking about starting the Seasonal and Holiday Recipe Swap, Spring Edition the beginning of January and having it done the end of February or beginning of March. How about starting on Monday, January 7, and due date could be Friday, February 22. Then we could get everything mailed back in time for Easter. It could include all the holidays up to Memorial Day-St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, maybe even graduation? Don't have a calendar handy, so don't know what falls in there for holidays.

Also, we can do the Disney Recipe Swap sign-ups starting Monday, March 3, and due date of Friday, April 18. Maybe we will even have a category for recipes that have already been done for those of us that missed them. pretty in tink and I missed the first one and but we did some of them for ourselves anyway.

Seasonal and Holiday Recipe Swap, Summer Edition, could be sometime in April and could include 4th of July, Labor Day, maybe weddings and graduations, Father's Day, Memorial Day if it's not in the Spring Edition.

Everyone received their recipes in the Seasonal and Holiday Recipe Swap, Fall and Winter Edition. I am still hoping to get pictures posted. My DS bought himself an expensive new camera, so I've been trying to get him to take the pictures.:thumbsup2 It's just timing it right I guess. :confused3

Getting back into the game of life with Christmas over. So Buffy, I have two swaps in the list I am going to do and no clue when might be good to do them.

Disney quotes - for which I am thinking to keep very simple - 2 quotes per person and groups of maybe 8? Those are fairly easy to make I'd say so not a huge burden and not a lot of cost for us BAN peeps!

Eat around the world - Hopemax had said she was waiting till moving and I wanted to wait for her but I think now shse's not moving yet if I read it right?

So when, oh swap goddess do you see in the calendar that these might work best? I'm totally open.

Eat around the world, is that going to be page kits or 2 or 3 elements? I would say 4-6 weeks for that depending on how you do it, kits or elements.

I would suggest getting involved in some of the swaps on the board- KAtdisney has one going on right now for characters- you can do page kits or elements. In general most of us are a little wary of joining swaps from brand new members as we have had a few people that never returned sweaps and some of them were quite expensive. While you can suggest a swap and it can be put on the calendar- many people would be more willing to sign up if they had seen you check in and turn in swaps timely before trusting you with their time and money in being a swap hostess since you are new.

fill faster than I can get a spot in them. I am disappointed that the board is this way. It discourages new people from coming in. I swap regularly on other boards without a problem. I can barely get in if I can in the elements swap.Do you just have enough swappers that you don't need new ones? I am an avid swapper and this board is intimidating.

there are alot of open spots in the Character Element /page kit swap. You are more than welcome to join in. All you have to do to join any swap is just sign up. We don't discourage anyone from joining and we welcome everyone :)

Hi Julie!
We always need new swappers! That's how we grow and learn. I'm sorry you feel intimidated, that's why I started the calendar, so people can get an idea of what they want to do and when the sign ups will be.
I think the swaps are filling fast right now because we are coming off a swapping hiatus and the girls (and guys) are chomping at the bit to get swapping again. It's an addiction! LOL

just read through the thread backwards, that will give you an idea of when the last time was that the hostess updated and then go from there. I tend to open 2 pages 1 of the list and 1 of the last page, that way I don't have to keep bouncing back and forth.
Kat was really good at highlighting the spots still needed in blue. And there are only 2 people as of right now that have requested spots since her last update.
I'm sure Kat can find a spot for you somewhere! And if you think you would miss a sign up due to a scheduling conflict send a PM to the Host, they might be able to reserve a spot for you if there is something specific that you really want to do!

Hi Julie! There are plenty of spots in the character swaps - I sometimes miss the starts because of time difference (such as opening while I'm asleep or at work :lmao: ). Go for the character swap if there will be stuff you can use - the groups are fairly small and manageable, which is always nice for a first time (even if you are experienced elsewhere).

Then I'd suggest, as B&MB said above, looking at the calendar for sign-up dates and PM-ing the hostess and ask her to reserve you a spot or two. You can always go back in once they're open and see if there's something else available, or ask to swap one group for another. Hostesses have done this for me, especially if I was going to be on holiday during sign-ups.

New blood always welcome here (mwahh-haha!), especially as so many of us are supposedly being good and limiting our swaps this year:rolleyes1

I am willing to do it. I just feel bad my last swap was so delayed in being returned. If people are willing to sign up, I am willing to host. I think it would be easier to do it in quarters. We would have enough time to start on it - if we got busy. Wouldn't it be great to have a year scrapped at the end of the year.

MazdaUK, I am doing the Disney Recipe Swap also, was waiting for some dates for potential conflicts with the due date I was thinking of, so put off posting a sign-up time. I have that all straightened out now.

The AK swap is supposed to be in June and I didn't think we liked to have multiple park swaps going on at the same time, but maybe Rebecca would be willing to switch time spots?

I was thinking about asking about hosting the Epcot swap too, but I was waiting to see what the mail situation was like at the new place first. Guess, I will have to figure out something else to do if the mail works out. Here I could never do it because the mailman would jam the envelopes in the tiny box and things would get bent. I was okay with flattening my returned stuff, but I didn't want anyone else's stuff to get bent.

Actually switching the AK and Epcot swaps- would be fine with me. I can do signups after I get back from SDV and they can be due in October. I won't know the exact dates until I know how my schedule is changing but if I do end up moving this summer it was going to be July 1- so I was already talking to BAMB about moving the AK swap back a bit so I didn't start until after my move.

Buffy is away right now (at least I think she is off in Maine at this point.) Generally you look at the calendar and see what months look good (as far as not too many swaps) and then choose dates that work for you- right now the end of Sept and October are low as far as sign-ups are concerned and october and November are lower on due dates. So then you look at your personal calendar and see what dates would be good- a free day to start sign-ups and a week oir two in which you can sort and take pictures of the items. You also want to make sure you have a safe place in your house to keep things until it is time to swaps out the items.

I have an idea for a swap. It is a swap of more making than receiving. Here is how I have come up with this idea. My son is a receiptent from Make A Wish Foundation. They were wonderful and have given my severally disabled son a place to play outside with his younger brother. He is pretty much bed ridden.

I wanted to do something in return to say "thank you". I have bought 2 8x8 disney albums (one for a boy-one for a girl). I wanted to make an autograph album for them. Then I thought maybe my friends on the dis board would help me out. My creativity may get boring in the book. I would do 2 groups. And anyone can sign up for as many character autograph pages as they would like as long as it does not repeat. They can be one or two pages. And also they would include a tag with their dis name and a little message to the child about going to disney. I would make the last page a pocket page with all the tags for the child. I would also include a letter about how this book came about with all the help from everyone on this board.

I thought maybe I could do sign ups in August and due in November or later. I do not know how much interest would be in this and if everyone would trust me to give this to the foundation. It would be the chapter in North Carolina that helped out my son. He was actually one of the first the volunteers worked with that did not go to Disney (to ill to travel).

What do you think? Any ideas that would help this work out. I want to make sure the ladies know these books will go to two special children. I may never know who, but I would mail them to my contact person.So far it is an idea in my head. But I am going to do it. I feel something really strong telling me to do this for other children. I just made myself one for my one day trip.

I wanted to do something in return to say "thank you". I have bought 2 8x8 disney albums (one for a boy-one for a girl). I wanted to make an autograph album for them. Then I thought maybe my friends on the dis board would help me out. My creativity may get boring in the book. I would do 2 groups. And anyone can sign up for as many character autograph pages as they would like as long as it does not repeat. They can be one or two pages. And also they would include a tag with their dis name and a little message to the child about going to disney. I would make the last page a pocket page with all the tags for the child. I would also include a letter about how this book came about with all the help from everyone on this board.

I thought maybe I could do sign ups in August and due in November or later. I do not know how much interest would be in this and if everyone would trust me to give this to the foundation. It would be the chapter in North Carolina that helped out my son. He was actually one of the first the volunteers worked with that did not go to Disney (to ill to travel).

What do you think? Any ideas that would help this work out. I want to make sure the ladies know these books will go to two special children. I may never know who, but I would mail them to my contact person.So far it is an idea in my head. But I am going to do it. I feel something really strong telling me to do this for other children. I just made myself one for my one day trip.

I will be going to DL in a couple of weeks. Is there any character that either of the kids in question that I could try to get a longer autograph from
"Thinking of you, love Mickey", "Hang In there, Terk", tec.
I will have a little free timeto myself and could try to do something like that.
It is August and I dont know what the lines will be like, but I could try.

You just came up with a brillant idea Arizona Rita. My thoughts on the book were where we would make a journal size box and a photo mat with some embellishing, so the kids could let the character sign the box.

But maybe it would be an awesome idea to add like you suggested for the beginning of each book a picture of just the character and a message of sorts stating "Look forward to meeting you soon....love mickey" or what ever general character. The 2 books I do not know of the children the wish foundation would give it to at the momement,but I think I will call up the person who worked with me and ask her about any upcoming (like in Jan or so) visits and maybe she could get a specific character the child loves. With the help of these great dis friends who may be going sometime they could get a special message for the child. I bet just one from the mouse would tickle their heart before they even leave. I just love that idea.

Hi Bamb (not sure if you are gone),

Okay I have been looking at the calendar for dates and I think I would like to do the sign ups on August 17 with a due date of Dec. 6. This will have enough time before the holidays get to busy to get everything in. My goal is to personally(hopefully) drive down there and give it to them in person. It is about a 2 1/2 hr drive. I would like to take some pics of them receiving it so I can post here. I would like to have it to them in January the first week. This will give me time to put the albums together (I am terriable at getting them to look right), take pics, and get through the holidays. I am not sure how busy the foundation is or if they take a lot of time off for the holidays, but I thought January would be good time to give it to them.

I will be working out all the details. It will be very general and open. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to have them. I want to incorporate Arizona Rita idea into the albums. This is my first time doing anything like this so please do not hestitate to help me out. I am soooo excited about doing this for the foundation. Gives me a little tinkle inside. :wizard:

I was the volunteer coordinator for the Sacramento Make-A-Wish chapter for a couple of years. We had volunteers complete trip albums AFTER wishes but would have had some problems giving albums before as pre-Wish gifts are typically limited to certain items. I know you said you were planning to check with your wish coordinator before and that is definitely a good idea. If she has any hesitation, you might want to look into making generic albums that can be used after the trip.

It's very kind of you to do this. The kids will love it!

It will be based on the TPCShauna's point system. 5 point minimum-no store bought items. Loved it last time as I got some stuff from swaps before my time. :lovestruc

The swapper will send as many 5-point baggies as they want to get back. They will label the bags with their names, after counting how many baggies, I will put the items back in their mailing packaging. I draw the appropriate number from different packagings to mail back to the swapper. If I do this right, no body should get their own baggies back.

A great way to give away the items from swaps past that you know you won't use and get new things you wouldn't get any other way but swapping between swappers. And NO, the items do not need to be the same theme in each baggie.

I think it was one tag and it had to have TO From on it. 8 in a group. IF you have some thoughts on this, I'd like to hear them. I would prefer 2 tags per person. I don't think it necessarily has to be tag shaped -- a tree shaped tag would be fine. A square too. I'll put this on my to do list and if you don't mind, I'll run it by you to see what you think.

I talked to my Wish coordinator and she just loved the idea. She is very excited about it. I asked her if the kids go to all the disney parks and she told me they do all 4 plus Sea World, Universal, and IOA. So maybe I will include those as well as part of the autograph album. Not sure yet. Any suggestions on doing characters from these parks or just stick to Disney?

Okay- now that I have moved into my new house and made a couple of decisions about working- here are some swap date:
AK Sign-ups- August 6, Mail Date October 8, Due Date October 15
Universal/IOA Sign-ups- August 8, Mail Date October 11, Due Date 10/18

That puts it off from other due dates and sign ups by a couple of weeks. Of course anyone who chooses may send both swaps together and I will return them together- I just don't want both sign-ups the same day.
