Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from non-running beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Morning teammates. Fueling up to head out in a 1/2 hour or so. The weather is not sure what it wants to do this morning. Looks like maybe a little rain. But I figure, last winter I ran 16 in a cold downpour--a little sprinkle won't keep me in. Forgot to get Gu again yesterday! I spent so much time oohing and aaahhing over Christmas decor that I completely forgot to stop by the sporting goods store. At least I have some gatorade/water mix to get me through
Sounds like there were some great LR/LWs yesterday! Hoping for more of the same today!
Martha--will be thinking of you today, good luck out there!
Steve--if Scott would allow me to put up my xmas stuff right now I would. But, I'm scared of the attic (yes, I know go ahead and laugh) so I can't get the stuff down by myself. If it makes you feel any better, I've already updated my iPod to include my xmas playlist.
Okay, better finish my breakfast and find my shoes!

Good morning WISHers! Today is my rest day and boy do I need it after 2 hours of catching for my softball pitcher in training. My legs and shoulders are pretty sore today. :bored: Today is winter field hockey league for another 2 hours and I will probably be talked into running with the girls for warm up so I guess this is an easy day...not a real rest day. I don't think mom's get real rest days!!!!! :laundy:

Mine was 16 miles this weekend in 3:33:05. Lightning was in the shop so it was more of a Tow Mater run ;) . I'm focusing more on distance than pace, but setting mini-goals within the run to help. My 12 mile split was better than last weeks 12 miler and my half-mary split was 2:44:29, which beats my half PR :woohoo: . I am happy that I'm maintaining my intervals through the first 12 miles...this summer I was just thrilled to get through an hour before having to downshift. I think the R4/W2 works better for me than the R4/W1 and I don't seem to have sacrificed anything for pace with the change.
I have to agree with WWDave...you guys doing the LR on the TM are hardcore :thumbsup2
Lily...wtg on your 7 miles! Good luck on the 14 today. :wizard: for your back. Sorry 'bout OSU...been a weird BCS year.
Colleen...have fun at WDW. How are you feeling?
Jackie...wtg on your 10! There's a house along my running route that took down their Halloween decorations and put the Christmas ones up the next day :santa: Glad we don't know anyone around here like that :rolleyes1
Lisa...hope your 6 miles went well. Are you still getting along with your knees? ;)
Stephanie...how are you feeling? Sorry 'bout the Hogs. I haven't seen any Vols fans here. I was really hoping the Hogs would smear them yesterday, but I don't think it would've mattered either way for the Gators.
Steve...glad your knee held up for the 12! We could send you the Wild Thing to help with Xmas decorations...she was pretty bummed when the Halloween stuff came down.
Krista...wtg on your 6! Did you find anyway to sneak in for the half? Maybe Anthony travel or one of the charities has some spots open?
Renee...wtg on your 18!
Martha...how did you do this weekend?
Yeah...where is Andrew lately?
cguill...congrats on your 14! Are you training for anything particular right now?
Jen...happy belated anniversary! 20 degrees :scared1: I was whining because it was 55 when I went out.
Kelley...congrats on finishing the 15! Sorry it wasn't fabulous. I had the rock in the shoe thing last week, thought it would make me crazy.
Helen...wtg on your 16! Any celebrity sightings? SilverSteve may have some answers for the knee thing.
Well, I'm worried this may be my first and last full :sad1: . I do okay during the run, but the arthritis kicks into my ankle later in the day and the next. I couldn't walk on it this morning :scared: Fortunately, the PF in the other foot is relatively mild this morning. Sooo...I may take an extra rest day tomorrow and hope that helps. I'm wondering what 18, 20, 22 and 26.2 miles are going to feel like the next day :guilty:
Happy Veteran's Day and Thank YOU to all of our veterans!
Good training everyone!

Good Morning WISH Team.
Today is a rest day for me. I had a good week last week with 31 miles and all the good extras like core training and stretching. We have 18 miles on the schedule for tomorrow, "Oh Goody".
Does anyone know if Typhoon Lagoon is open in January? We missed that on the Oct trip so we thought a water play day would be fun.
I think we are the first to arrive, We will be driving in on the evening of January 6th and heading out on the 17th.
I'm trying to arrange some group dinner/lunch meets for anyone interested. I'm green at that so I will just do a post and ask for anyone interested then have Erica make the reservations, I would screw that up.
Everyone have a super Sunday and remember, you need the LSD but you need the rest also.

Good morning team. Sorry I have been MIA just swamped at home and at work.
Training was going great this week until we decided to go to a dance last night....well lets just say I am not sure the 12K we have for today is going to happen.:confused3 but does 5 hours of dancing count????:thumbsup2
I haven't been able to keep up on posts so I hope everyone is doing great and all Lw/R's are going great and are all injury free.
Will post later just running over to the Rememberance Day Memorial for the ceramony. My dad fought in WW2 and we rarely get to go as it falls mid week and we do not get the day off in Canada so when it is on a Sat or Sun we like to go.
To all veterans out there and to you all who have family and friends who have fought in any of the wars THANK YOU for giving us the freedoms we now enjoy!!!!
Have a great day all.

Hello all!
Today I got in a nice 7 mile run (1:04 - 9:16 pace). I took it reall easy all of last week but wanted to get in one more decent run before the Philly marathon next week because I needed to see how my knee would hold up. I actually did real well considering it was 30 degrees when i started and my joints and muscles were tight for the first few miles. I wore a knee brace during the run and I think I will wear it next week for the race because the knee is still sore.
Needless to say I am nervous about the race but fired up. The fact that my knee held up today made me feel a lot better. Went out and bought some new running clothes this week just for the race. Going with an all black look (hat, gloves, long sleeve shirt and shorts). What's that old saying..."it's better to look good then to feel good." This will be a tough week to get focused.

Hi Everyone!
I ran 18 miles yesterday. I wish I could say I ran it fast, but I didn't. I just had fun. Finished the first 14 in 2:44:00, then went back to bring in the rest of the runners. So I ran the next 2 in 17:34 and the final 2 in 29:00. Running the last 2 miles with slower runners really helped my recovery. I might do that more often. I could have walked beside them, but I thought that would be rude. I tried not to be too perky since they were obviously in the "bite me" zone. It feels good to be strong! What a difference a year makes.

Hello, WISHers!
I am determined to keep up with the thread this week!
I feel great today after my 18 yesterday; no soreness at all! :cool1: It's a rest day; I'll be watching indoor soccer this afternoon as DS starts winter league.
Stephanie - Hope you didn't get caught in too much rain! I don't mind a sprinkle, but I hate squishy running shoes!
Lisa - Definitely no such thing as a true "rest" day with kids around.
Mel - Great job on the 16 miler! Sounds like you're getting a really good pace in!
WWDave - You are braver than I if you're going to Typhoon Lagoon in January! It is scheduled to re-open from a refurb 1/6 so you're in luck.
Cguill - Looks like a fun week! Do you do any cross training or just straight running?
Kim - Depends on the type of dancing as to whether or not it's XT!
Monte - To you as well!
Lou - You have to look good to perform good! Glad the knee is hanging in there.
Cecilia - The "bite me" zone! :rotfl: Reminds me of running with DD!
Happy training, all!
Renee

HMHunters - I just do straight running, mainly due to time constraints, plus my mileage will get higher which means even more time ...

THANK YOU to all veterans, even you **Boo-boo Panda**, as well as all those currently serving.
Well, the Patriots have a bye week see no REAL NFL football until next week. I am hitting the 4 hour sauna this afternoon, I mean going to enthusiasticly attend DD#3's swim meet. Plan to walk about 3 miles tonight and work on increasing distance the next few weeks. The back is still being fickle, but I am trying to make it understand this is the way it is going to be.
I tried not to be too perky since they were obviously in the "bite me" zone.
I think this is the zone I always end up in. I attribute it to never really enjoying the running part of training back in my jock days. At some point in the future, I am hoping to achieve a running high, rather than needing to be high* to run/walk.

Congrats to all with the LR's. Great job!:thumbsup2
I had an excellent workout today. Did 5 miles in 1:06:39 for a 13:19 pace.
But the best part is I felt great!:) I finished and I was not sore at all. Even after driving home from the track, it was not an adventure trying to get out of the car ;) No stiffness at all.
Hoping to do 8 tomorrow (if all goes well. My Mom is sick and I may have to get her to the Dr. I warned her. My Dad always use to say that approx. 2 weeks after he got his flu shot, he'd get a cold/flu. Well, sure enough, my Mom got her flu shot 2 weeks ago during a reg. check-up. Now she has the stuffy nose, chills and her arthritis in her back is acting up) That's why I don't get flu shots (and because I don't like needles  )
Have a good day and thanks to all our Veterans, past and present!

HAPPY VETERANS DAY!
Thank you Monte. Having had a long military career, I experienced being called a bad guy and a hero depending on the attitude of the people. You should always support your troops, no matter how you feel about the current wars. The troops don't make those decisions, they go to defend their nation's people against whoever our elected officials say is a threat to them.
One of the moments I'll never forget is flying home from war in the "Freedom Bird". When we reached our shores and the pilot called out over the intercom, "We are now over the soil of the United States of America, Welcome home Warriors". The cheering from the men and women on board, many injured and hurting, was awesome, there was no dought about they felt about our nation.
Happy Vets day, and a moment of prayer for our brave men and women who are in harms way today.

Hi, everyone! Wow, these LRs are so impressive!
Mel -- that is an awesome time and congrats on beating your PR!!!! :woohoo: Sorry to hear about the arthritis, though. January will be my final full marathon, too, and after that I'll plan on doing the Disney half each year. I'd love to train for your pace and maybe be able to keep up with you in 2009.
Terri -- So glad to hear you are doing well, and that you are smart enough not to do anything to risk your feet heading into the final couple months of training.
Cecilia -- you are another one to whom all I can say is :worship: Man, look at those times and that distance!
Happy Veterans Day to all our WISH teammates who have served!
Also sending extra prayers to our WISH teammates who are serving now, including Matt (thundermatt) and Kevin (kzmarathon, Howard & Lynne's 2007 marathon third). Praying for your safety and physical and emotional well-being, gentlemen, as you spend this time away from your families and many of your friends, sacrificing your needs and wants for the greater good. Love and best WISHes to you! To Cheryl and to Kristen and Kyle and Katie, may God continue to bless you all. Thank you for your sacrifice.
Feeling pretty sore today, but some of that may be due to sitting through the longest football game in history! Delaware lost in 5th overtime yesterday! I don't even know the proper terminology for that. "Quintuple Overtime?" It was a heartbreaking loss and UD had scored the tying points in literally the final seconds of the game (many of the fans had already left) and then went on to challenge Richmond in every overtime session with some very dramatic plays. Exciting, but man, it was cold!
To those who asked about TM training - I don't have much choice because of my vision issues. I usually download new movies to my video ipod and take a good book, a new running magazine, and nutrition, to get through the session. I could go out to the state park and do the 1 1/8 mile (very flat) cinder track, but it doesn't open until daylight and I really need to get done as early as possible on busy weekends.
As for Howard's training, all I can say is "what training?" I think he did a LR of 8 or 9 miles in early September, the Delaware Distance Classic 15k after that, and the ToT 13k on 10/27, but IIRC, he has not run other than that. He seriously plans to wait until finals are done in December and will do some training for Goofy then. ACK!!!!! He makes me crazy! But I also know how hard he is working with his full-time school schedule and working more than 25 hours/week, too, besides trying to be at Andrew's school stuff whenever possible. He meets DD19 for dinner once in a while on campus, too. So, I try not to give him too much grief. ;)
Okay, back to the work on my desk. ICK! Have a great day, everyone! I envy anyone enjoying the fabulous weather we are having in this part of the country.
Big Vic

Good morning WISHers!
Hoping everyone is having a great Sunday.
15 miles completed this morning in 3:11:33. I guess that ain’t too shabby for a grumpy, old, retired senior NCO. My ½ marathon split was 2:45:42, which blew my WDW ½ marathon time (3:20:18) right off the map. I must be in better shape this year. Duh!
Jen and Kristi – Happy Belated Anniversary!
Stephanie – Glad to hear you’re feeling better, and hope you had a good run.
Mel – WTG with the 16 miler! Hope the feet feel better.
Cguill – Have a great training week, and welcome!
Kim – Dancing does count. :thumbsup2
Lou – WTG with the 7 miler.
Cecilia – WTG with the 18 miler!
Renee – WTG with the 18 miler!
PatsBill – How’s the training coming?
Terri – WTG with the 5 miler, and good luck with the 8 tomorrow.
Cam – :wave2:
To all of my veteran brothers and sisters, and to those serving today, here’s to you.

Another HAPPY VETERANS DAY to all of DIS veterans and those currently serving. We appreciate you! May God continue to shine his blessings upon you. :goodvibes :grouphug:
Cecilia - I'm usually in the "Bite Me" zone after the first mile. Ha!
Terri - Great pace! I'm glad you are doing so well now. Here's hoping you remain injury free for the Goofy in '08. :wizard:
Mel - you are smokin'! Congrats on the new PR! I feel for you on the arthritis. I think I have a little in my left ankle as well. Whenever I run, my left foot tends to flop instead of a rolling motion it should do and the doctor thinks it's due to some arthritis. :(
cguill - :welcome: Work does get in my way - and that's no joke. ;)
Cam - I've been off the boards for a while. Hope your back is somewhat "back" to normal. I meant to ask you about it at the ToT. Congrats on getting the 14-miler in. Speaking of schedules, I admire you, Howard and everyone who gets in some training despite your crazy schedules. My hat's off to all of you. I don't know how you do it.
Lily - Sending :wizard: for your back.
Dana and Nancy - congrats on the LRs on the treadmill. Whew! I did 8 miles yesterday on the TM and I was ready to get off. I will admit, a good movie or TV show helps. I don't know if I could read a book, though. I bob up and down too much to be able to read.
Helen - Congrats on getting those miles in despite the popping knee! Yikes!
Lisa - I think all of that XT should count for something. :upsidedow
Kristi and Jen - HAPPY ANNIVESARY to you and DHs!
Kristi - sorry Chad is having to deal with added pressure at work. Hopefully, it won't be too big of a problem. I had a friend that worked PT with Southwest. The perks are great despite the lower pay.
Renee - congrats on getting that 18-miler in. My time is coming. :scared:
Steve - congrats to you and Krista on getting in the LRs pain free. If you get bored over the next few weeks, feel free to come to my house and put up Christmas decorations. I'm not sure when I'll get around to it.
For all of those nursing injuries and illnesses - sending lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: your way.
I completed my 8 miles yesterday using the treadmill. I wanted a controlled run. When I run outside I tend to go faster and I'm not able to get in my W3/R2. I get too tired and I end up doing a W3/R1. I'm going to have to work on that somehow. Next up - 16 miles next weekend. I'm actually going to do a half-marathon and add in 3 more miles somehow. We'll see how that works out.
Hope everyone has a good, injury-free week!

**Big Vic** Big thanks to you for your service.
My training is coming along slower than I hoped. Got in three short walks this week and some stationary bike work. The back and hips have held up relatively well, so plan to try a 3 mile long walk (for me) tonight. If all goes well, I'll try to start increasing distance again. As I am running out of room to keep reworking my training schedule, I am hoping ground control gives me an all systems go and I don't need to alert "Houston" to any more problems. I figure my former cheetah-like speed will instinctively kick it ... OK, I really had the speed of a turtle with arthritis, but a man can dream.

Happy Veteran's Day! From me as well
Well, the 14 miler is in the books. Finished in 2:10 and some change, which is around 9:20 pace. And I actually could have been a little faster, but that darned IBS started again around mile 10. I had to do the run as far as I possibly could, and then walk till I felt better until I got to the restroom (sorry if TMI) But no matter, I'm really pleased with the result. Mostly b/c this was a hard week, healthwise for me, and I didn't think I'd even be out today.
Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!

Hey Bill, we all post on this thread as well. I would consider most of us are regulars here!:thumbsup2
Oh, and I am really not cool at all. I am really a boring housewife/Math teacher.;) Heck, I am at Disney now and while the kids are showering up from swimming, here I am checking the WISH board to see how everyone's LR's were this weekend!

I have been posting on that thread and also wanted to respond. I'm new around here and I don't want anyone to think that I am trying to be rude or anything. I have posted on this thread a few times (and also on other threads on this board). I have been lurking over here a bit, but I honestly do find it hard to keep up with this thread. Also, I have read on the boards that a lot of people are really nervous about meeting others and introducing themselves in person. I think I have the opposite problem. I will introduce myself to anyone in person, but am a little nervous and intimidated about jumping into discussions on the boards. The MCM thread was just less intimidating because there are fewer people. I do, however, want to try to post over here more often to get to know more people.
BTW, Bill, I am also a big Pats fan (I lived in New England until I was 18). My DH, however, is from San Diego and a HUGE Chargers fan (and NE hater - especially after the playoffs last year). I'm really not looking forward to the game tonight, I assume there will be lots of yelling at the TV . . . :rolleyes1

Not too cool - I'm just keyboard time and memory challenged. I have a hard time keeping up with the half-dozen or so folks that ran MCM. I'm overwhelmed at this thread. But, I do lurk here.

No dice on getting a 1/2 marathon entry. Everything is booked already through the travel companies and charities. I'm running a 10K on Thanksgiving day, so still "training" for that, I might continue to get some decent long runs on Saturdays after the 10K just because. Too bad this didn't happen last year when my Mom got sick and couldn't run the half, I could have run in her place. ;) ;)
Kristi--Sorry about Chad's boss. He sounds like a true gem.
Stephanie--Your Brownies gave us a scare today! I never thought I would say thank goodness that Ben can run!
I better go, we got one Christmas tree up last night, putting up the other one tonight. I'll take pictures and post this week. I love Christmas!!!!

Krista/Steve--thanks for the condolences! We went out after church to watch the game at a sports pub b/c here in Dallas/St. Louis/NO/Tennessee Land we never get the browns or Steelers unless they are on Sunday/Monday night. We left at half-time feeling pretty good. Then I decided to take a little cat nap. I woke up when there was 1 minute left and the Browners needed that field goal. Geez! Great game, though!:thumbsup2

Sara74 - I saw your post at the end of last week's thread. I'm no expert, but from what I have read, here is my 2 cents. Doing any training at your 5K pace is pretty fast (unless it is a very short interval during a speed work out). When I first started doing speed work, what I used to help me decide the paces was the McMillan Running Calculator:
http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/rununiv/mcmillanrunningcalculator.htm
A lot of people don't really believe in these types of predictive devices (and I don't really for race times - for example, entering my 5K PR gives me a predicted marathon time that is 50 minutes faster than the time I actually ran in the marathon), but I do like entering race times and using the recommended paces for tempo runs, speed work, and long runs.

Good evening Wish Team!:
Sorry to be missing so much.....LTO! This fund raising has me really busy! I am on my way with that though....I am at $800 of my $1100 goal! I need to keep moving on it though.....I need $300 more before the Victory Junction 1/2 marathon on December 2nd.
I got a long run in today.....8 miles on the rail trail with my dsis. We did it in less than 1 1/2 hours which is pretty good for me right now. That is the longest I have ran in a long time. (since Toronto marathon I guess)
Hope everyone else is healthy, happy and getting their miles in!

Vic, WWDave, Matt, Kevin, and an others I may have missed:
On this special day thank you for your work and sacrifice which makes it possible for so many, including Martha and I, to live the way we do. Any one of you, state the time and the place this January, and the first one is on me. I will still be in Orlando on Wednesday the 16th, so maybe that will work out.
In October of 1988 we 3 were at the American Cemetary in Normandy, and it's impossible to describe the feelings one gets when walking such hallowed ground. Martha's father (age 79) has often told us of his wish to visit Normanday and the cemetary, and this next June the 2 of us are taking him there. He just missed the war. He was actually in the infantry waiting in the San Francisco area to land in Operation Olympia when the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were dropped, so I wonder how he'll react to Normandy.
Back to our running dialogue; I do have a confession to make:
"My name is Bruce, and it has been 1 week since I had a fish." Wait, that's from Finding Nemo.
My confession is that in spite of finishing a bunch of Disney halfs, a Disney full, and a Disney Goofy, the longest training run I have done in over 20 years is 13 miles. I'm sure if I had a muscle biopsy done on my calves I would have lots of fast twitch muscle fibers and very few slow twitch fibers. I'm built for pushing the pace on shorter races, not for carrying decent paces for long distances, and I really struggle in longer races and training runs.
I carried the great long run successes of our gang, including Mel, Stephanie, Dana, Vic, and especially Martha  (sorry if I missed anyone), with me every step today. Man you guys are eating the bear right now. I wanted to be included in this select group, so I thought about you guys and concentrated on the distance, counting only the miles and not the clock, and got 15 today. Miles 11 and 12 were tough physically and mentally, but I took my last water and gu stop at 12, and I felt much better and stronger in the last 3.
So thank you all for pulling me through 15 today. I am counting on you all to do this 3 more times in the next few weeks, 17, 18, and 18. Please don't let me down. My marathon result depends on you.
Good luck all. 63 days until the full.

Thanks to all our veterans.
I will probably never keep up this week Page 3 tonight already. I’m working page one now.
Sara, don’t worry about keeping up. Just keep posting and the rest will come. It seems to me that you are doing quite well on your training so far. I don’t have an answer for your question.
Lisa, it seems to me you are in great shape with those legs if you held up to that catchers assignment. Hope you enjoyed the run with the field hockey gals.
Stephanie, you made me laugh about your Ipod “Christmas decorating.”
Mel, sorry about the arthritic ankle. I’m wondering if after your speedy marathon that you would be able to put in the steps to complete the events more slowly. Halfs work too for sure!
Cecilia, what a nice thing to do helping the others in. You sure got that right—“bite me zone!” I definitely can relate to that.
NEPatsBill, I hope the sauna treatment went well and DD had a good day.
Yech on the TM LRs. I went out in it today. I’ve done my 22 miler on TM and I can say it was not pretty. I know there are plenty more TM opportunities, so I am doing all I can to get out in it on the weekends since it is too dark and I won’t run in the dark, wait scratch that, I ran ToT.
My LR today turned out to be part stonker and part I’m glad I did it. Weather for me was perfect mostly in the 40’s misty rain toward the end. I made it to the car sat inside and it started to pour. Whew! I managed 13 miles in 3:36 for a 16:39 pace. I am not unhappy b/c I got to walk my first 2 miles with DH and we did it at about a 19 m pace, then I made the potty stop and continued onward. So my average pace took all this in consideration since I didn’t stop the timer (figured it would make it more “real”). Stonker part is that I could not take one more step. I’m WISHing at this point that I will be able to finish the full somehow and still be within time. I’ll give it a try with all I have.

part 2:
Cam, sorry that the team lost. That had to be one awful long game. You inspire me with the way you have adapted to the TM LRs. I’m so glad you’ve made the time to get those steps done.
Vic, glad that you have noticed the improvement a year makes. It is amazing isn’t it? That improvement is such fun and you’ve put in a great deal of time to earn it.
Susie, good job on the LR. Sounds like a good plan for your next week.
Nancy, hope you enjoyed your rest day and got all the house stuff done.
PatsBill, Glad that you went to the other thread to round up some of our team and let them know we miss them here. I feel so bad that your back is not being cooperative. I am so proud of you for sticking with this through it all. You inspire me.
Stephanie, good job on getting it done! Smart that you knew to slow it down a bit. (I can’t believe I wrote this…you are so speedy and you thought it is slow.)
Cindy, glad you came in to let us get to know you here too! Thanks for the reminder about the pacing calc.
Chester, great to see you here!
Beth, congrats on your fundraising effort! Great job. Good job on your LR too.
Craig, thank you for your confession. No one would have guessed by your speedy performances that you were doing them with only your fast twitch fibers!
Go figure, my back is not as bad today after the LR I did as it was yesterday—must be numb.
I've spent the biggest part of my day collapsed on the chair and could not imagine having to go and do real life things.
:worship: all of our WISH Team that had to step right into RL after the LRs you amaze me.
I've been meaning to ask ... Whassup with the MCM now known as Philly Marathon '08 thread-people? Are they just too cool to hang with us regular weekly thread WISHers? ;)
Yeah, dude, I'm definitely too cool to post on this theread; you know, I got the whole, 40 year-old-mom-with penguin-like tendencies thing goin' on!:rotfl:

PatsyBill - Don't get the wrong idea. We don't think we're too cool, but damn, we ARE cool.
Craig - Something tells me that you will find this January a tad more enjoyable than your no LR trained ones!
StephanieKudos to the Brownies for putting up a good fight. But I must say, they are still the Brownies. ;)
SteveOuch!! Steve, you have no idea the emotional toll it takes to be a Browns fan. They build up your hopes just so they can knock you down again. It hurts Steve. It really hurts:sad1: . I need a hug.

Today is 45 minutes and weights. Lily, I am not so sure about the legs. My knees and I are still talking but my inner thighs are causing lots of hate and discontent. :lmao: Thankfully though, my stretching and the orthotics are working on my PF. I have discovered that my arches are so high there is not a shoe that can be found that touches them so I have to use the orthotics to take up the space. I have worn them the last 2 workouts and woke up with zero pain  so that makes me happy and I think my mojo may be returning, my chakras have realigned and my Chi has been rediscovered so all is well in central Maine!! :woohoo:
To all the Veterans, thank you, thank you and thank you again. You are a special group and mean so much to us. I have a 911 miracle in my home and 2 friends in Iraq right now volunteering. Thank you for giving us the freedom and the life we have come to enjoy!!!! :thanks:

The stationary bike did me in on Friday! My knees/lower legs were swollen all Friday night. And they started bothering me again by Saturday night. Needless to say, I have done no training this weekend. I have 3.5 miles on deck for today though.
Did you guys hear about the priest that is stalking Conan O'Brien? He tried to get into the tv station where Chad & I work on Saturday! :scared1: Chad was here when it happened and he didn't even know about it. :rotfl:
I think we are going to call Chad's boss' bluff. I am very :scared1: about this. Ack! We really think this a power thing with him. I hate this - the whole fear of the unknown thing! Please keep your fingers crossed that he doesn't use Chad very much at times when I am working. I really think I need to find some job in the school system so I can have the same schedule as Zack. Maybe a secretary or something - I have no patience & could not teach! ;)

Hello, WISHers!
6 miles comin' up for me today, but I think I'll wait until the thermometer reaches 40 ...
PatsBill - Hope you got in your 3 miles without your back acting up.
Terri - Isn't it GREAT to have no soreness? It makes me realize I'm getting to be in better shape!
Cam - Five overtimes?!? You are a true fan to sit through that!
Vic - Excellent run! You really smoked your half marathon time!
Susie - I'm thinking about using a half marathon as my LR for next weekend! But I'm only scheduled for 12, so I won't have to run more after it.
Nancy - Hope you enjoyed your rest day!
Princessmomma - You're at Disney?!? Hope you're having a great time!
Steve - Why don't you add some lemon juice to the salt you're rubbing into us wounded Browns fans? It's tough to be a Cleveland fan! Character building, I hope!
Cindy - Keeping up with this thread is like endurance training!
Chester - EVERYONE is overwhelmed by this thread! Three pages by Monday morning?!?
Krista - My kids are begging for Christmas decorations to go up. Can I send them to your house? (Mine don't come out until after Thanksgiving!)
Stephanie - I share your pain!
Beth - WTG on the fundraising! What trail did you run? I'd like to try the ATT in Durham.
Craig - If I could get away with doing 13 as my max mileage I'd do it! Unfortunately I know my body and I'll max out at 24 this year.
Lily - Glad you beat the downpour; hope you're not sore!
Jodi - Anyone who can pull off a Nemo hat is cool!
Mike - Just keep with the Brown's mantra - it's a building year. There's always next year. (To be repeated next year.)
Lisa - Glad your PF is doing better!
Kristi - PD for the situation with Chad's boss. Hope the legs are better!
My daughter has found the all-Christmas-music-all-the-time radio station and it's driving me nuts already! I've notices she's got some like-minded souls on this board. So for all you WISHing for Christmas ... this is just for you http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/weihnachten/xmas-smiley-005.gif

Good morning WISH team! :surfweb:
Yesterday was 3 hours and 15 minutes. Roughly 17 miles. The longest I've ever run in my life. Last week after 3 hours my groin hurt. I did a lot of stretching and it didn't hurt this week. What DID hurt was my shin down close to the ankle. I had to stop and rub it once. I iced and took lots of ibuprofen and it's feeling much better. However, DH--Calcio--has forbidden me from running until wednesday. He will hide my running shoes if he has to. So I'll rest today, which was planned anyway, and do some light cross-training tomorrow. More ibuprofen and ice today. Oh, and raking leaves. Yippee!
WWDave: must be a guy thing this fast twitch muscle thingy! Hope your 18 miles goes well.
nepatsfan Bill: how did the 3 miles go and how is the back feeling?
Renee: good luck on your 6 miles? Hope the temp warms up for you.
Kristi1357: take it easy on that bike! How are your legs feeling today?
princessrunner: have you tried some shuttle diplomacy on your legs? Bribery--I personally feel that bribery is under-rated--might work too! Hope the workout goes well.
Beth: great job on the 8 miles!
Calcio: you still inspire me! I've never run these distances and I do not want to embarrass you at the marathon this January. :love2:
Have a lovely day everyone!

Martha you are so sweet. Tell Craig to take you out and buy you a new fall running outfit. Yes it's a guy thing, that extra cromosone leg is all slow twitch.
Kristi, I thought you might like these:
Essential New Words For The Work Place:
BLAMESTORMING: Sitting around in a group, discussing why a deadline was missed, or a project failed, and exactly who was responsible.
SEAGULL MANAGER: A manager who flies in, makes a lot of noise, craps on everything and everybody and then leaves.
ASSMOSIS: The process by which people seem to absorb success and advancement - by sucking up to the boss rather than working hard.
SALMON DAY: The experience of spending an entire day swimming upstream, only to get screwed and die.
CUBE FARM: An office filled with cubicles.
PRAIRIE DOGGING: When someone yells or drops something loudly in a cube farm and peoples' heads pop up over the walls to see what's going on. Also applies to applause for a promotion because there may be cake.
Remember there is no problem so big you can't hide from it.

Quick weekend report-
Saturday, ran in a Veteran's Day 5k. I won my age group! (there were two of us). I finished in 25:42ish. It was really fast for me. I kept thinking about how ridiculous it is that I can run for many more miles, but add a little speed and it kills me! I guess I have the opposite problem of Craig! I'm a plodder, not a sprinter.;)
Sunday, Harry got up at 5:45 a.m. Had to go through the routine of letting him Body Glide his feet- because you know, he could develop some serious blisters in his footy PJs sitting in the stroller! We did 17 miles. Overall it was pretty good- there were moments of despair, but not as bad as I would have expected. I ran the 17 miles in 3 hours even, but we did take some stops (first time I ever stopped at a convenience store mid-run!) I turned the timer off for extended stops. Overall, we were on the roads from 6:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. or so. I started walking the second my 17 miles were done, but discovered quickly that walking hurt more than doing a little hobbling jog, so I hobbled the last block home. :scared:
I'm a little sore but feel more confident about the LRs (that's not to say I'm not twitching looking at my calendar).

Morning folks! We have today off in lieu of Rememberance Day yesterday, but work is so busy for me right now that I decided to come into the office. (...and here I am posting on the DIS boards...) The end of the year is crazy in the oil and gas industry - we have to calculate our reserves before the end of the year and this is my first year doing them.
I was aiming for a Short Long Run of 4 miles on Saturday and a Long Long Run of 8 miles on Sunday, but things were busy for me on Saturday so I didn't get the run in. Thought about lumping all the mileage into Sunday but didn't have the time for that long of a run. So I ran 8 in 1:29:29 for an 11:11/mi pace. I have my running gear at work so I'll get those 4 miles in today over lunch.
This week I have the following planned:
Tues: XT
Weds: 4 mi
Thur: 4 mi
Friday: REST
Saturday: 6 mi
Sunday: 12 mi
Have a good one everyone!

OK, so the Patriots weren't playing, Boo-boo Dave wasn't around to cause trouble and I was stuck at a swim meet for 5+ hours. Thus, I decided to start a little trouble. "Regular posters on this thread." I mean c'mon, we had to send out Kevin Costner in his role as an air-sea rescue diver and the rest of his search and rescue team to find MSDave after he dumped us for your thread, then he returns like Ron Popiel pitching Minnie Marathon Tours. ;) (Which I will unfortunely not be able to participate in.) I am extemely new to this stuff, but I missed MSDave's morning waking up, fueling up and thread recaps. Plus, you guys are posting what looks like helpful info as to recovery and training (the training looks more like an event in mid-January 2008, than 53 weeks away though). I hope you all realize it was in good fun and for team building purposes.
Only got 2-miles in last night as the swim meet went longer than expected (although DD#3, after getting about 2 hours sleep the night before at a friends "awake-over" party, did have 3 PRs in her 3 events), met up with the rest of the family after for dinner and helped get some of the youngin's bedded down. Body feels fair now, so WILL do three (3) miles later today.
Oh,and Optimator Mike--"Patsy" Bill, "Patsy" Bill --Call me Mr. "Patsy" Bill. Just bring it big fellah. You might be able to out run me now. But we'll see how fast you are Sunday January 13 after 39.3 miles. ;) Fast enough to meet for a post Goofy beer somewhere in the World Showcase. (Post-Goofy for you, not me ... this year anyway.)

Ok so I have been keeping up with the posts but just haven't posted lately because well there hasn't been anything to post. That's right no training what so ever since Thursday and at that it was only 2 miles - I think I have only done about 8 miles total since the TOT. I think I might get on the TM tonight but might not depending of time (LTO and all....) I definately want to get out tomorrow AM and at least do 3 miles. I have been trying to let my shin splints heal so hopefully they won't bother me anymore. I still am contemplating doing a 4 mile run on Thanksgiving AM - Run 4 the Pies - 4 miler, first 600 finishers get an apple pie for finishing. Otherwise I might do the 5k that is associated with the Marathon of the Palm Beaches on Dec 1.
Just wanted to say HAPPY Veterans day to all veterans!!
Congrats to all who did ther LR's - even if they are were stonkers at least you got out there and did them!!!
Kristi - Scary about the stalking preist thing!! Pixie dust for the boss thing for Chad. Hope it all works out.
Renee - I haven't gotten into the all the time Christmas music yet but I might after this weekends trip (NASCAR race and the Florida Keys for our anniversary) I did however put up my Christmas house village this past weekend so the house is starting to look a lot like Christmas (with a little Thanksgiving mixed in!! LOL) So :thumbsup2 to you DD and the Christmas music.
Jen in GA - Congrats on winning - it doesn't matter how many were in the group you still had a GREAT time.
Leana - Great time on your 8!! Good luck on the 4 today - I have one question though - how do you run when you have to go back to work?? I know its on your lunch break but then aren't you stinky??? :confused3 (hope that doesn't come out sounding rude - its just that I would like to do that on my break but I don't have anywhere to shower off and the people around me would  if I did that!! Good morning everyone!
I am home from work today as the little guy (14 months) has croup. Not a lot of fun and leaves me wondering if I can bundle him up tomorrow and take him for a run anyway. I think cold air is supposed to be good for croup - or is that an old wives' tale?
Anyway, ran 2.5 last night at the Y on the treadmill. Kept to a 10:54 pace. I have found that I hit the 'sweat zone' at 1.5 miles. Can't wait to see what I look like as the mileage increases this winter!
Cindy Thanks for the link! I have only been using my previous 5K pace (9:38) for the speed intervals. I have been running otherwise at a slower pace of 10:54. Maybe I should slow it down then, I have been wondering about my ability to maintain this pace at a longer distance, but figured that increasing distance gradually was going to help that. Thanks again!
Jen Congrats! I still have a trophy from my first race ever. I came in second in the 9 and unders. There were only two of us. Your accomplishment is way cooler than mine was!
Princessrunner I'll see you at the Minnie. Wave to me as you blow past, ok? I grew up in NH and agree that you don't want to run that half marathon. Are you in Northern Maine or southern? I grew up in Weare, NH but spent time in Saco as a kid.
It is still amazing to me to see the milage you are all running. Your training runs are long distance goals that I could only dream of in the future. I am inspired - and tired - just reading about it!

LOL)
That's a great question! Unfortunately I don't have a gym membership in our building here so no showering after runs for me. Seeing as how it is relatively cool here luckily I don't sweat too much on a run now, but if I have partner meetings in the afternoon I won't run for everyone else's comfort and enjoyment. If I'm holed up in my office I figure I'm OK!
Also, since our daylight hours are so short now (8 or 8:30 am to 5:30 pm) - if I don't run during the day it is way too dark by the time I would get out the door here now!

Greetings Race Team -
I think they are going to take me out of here in handcuffs today, and not because I enjoy it! This job is going to be the death of me. :headache: I just know it. Stupidity runs rampant here. It never stops!
OK, work-related vent over.
I did 4 miles on Saturday but did it on the TM because it was snowing. Not just a lovely little fluffy snow, but a wet mess. This morning I did 3 miles on the TM, Not because of the snow but because it was 4:30am, and it was dark. ;)
I MUST get outside for my L/R this weekend. I have 7 miles coming up and I'm craving pavement.
I can not possibly respond to all million so posts I have missed but I did read them all. I'll try to keep up from the slammer. :upsidedow

How 'bout them Illini?!
Hi! :wave2: I haven't visited the boards since, oh about, early October. I won't go into details, but I am STILL dealing with an on-going injury that developed in July and work has been crazy. I've needed to focus all of my free time on googling my various aches and pains in the hopes of figuring out what exactly is wrong with me. Two doctors, and athletic trainer, and the folks on the runners world forum can't diagnose me. I have an appointment on Monday with a group in town that uses a chiro, massage therapist, and a PT as part of their diagnosis and treatment team. It is going to cost a fortune, but it will be worth it if they can figure out what to do with me.
In other news, I am still sort of training. I am also faithfully watching and voting for Helio on Dancing With the Stars. That's about it, really.
Glad to be back here. I always feel worse when I'm not keeping up with my WISH team!

Thanks everyone for the praise for my race. Looking back on it, I was pushing myself because my mom and DD were watching and I wanted to show off. ;) I'm probably lucky I didn't hurt myself!
Speaking of my mom, she now wants to come to the marathon weekend to watch! :scared1: OK, I have a room at the Swan. She can't stay in our room because that's just too much togetherness. I looked on-line and the Swan is booked. I'm sure she'd like to stay at least in our area.
Then I started to think maybe a Villa would be the way to go (never stayed in one, but the kitchen, W/D idea is appealing). Saratoga Springs is available, I think in 2 bedrooms. It's kind of pricey, but maybe the equivalent of two rooms... there is also a cabin at Fort Wilderness. It is one bedroom (double/bunk beds) and has a murphy bed. I've never stayed there, so I can't tell if that's too much. Anybody got any advice?
The final option is to tell her she's waited too long and to have her come watch a half in December in Jacksonville. Still, I think if DH had my mom with him to help with the kids, I might see them more on the course (not that I really know if I care about seeing them on the course or if I just want to keep plodding along without much distraction).

Flashback!- forgot to tell all of you about the funniest part of my 5k. About two blocks into the race, we're going around a corner. This man in front of me hops on the sidewalk and runs diagonally like he's cutting off the corner. So I'm thinking he's really neurotic about his time if he wanted to cut off those extra few feet! My mom and Emma tell me afterwards that they went to a coffee shop during the race and there was a man in there with a race bib. When my mom asks, he says he just saw the coffee shop and decided he'd run enough for the day! That was the guy! He was hanging out eating bagels at the finish too, so I guess he is a firm believer of the whole DNF is better than DNS thing! How crazy is that!?

It hurts Steve. It really hurts:sad1: . I need a hug.
Great job to everyone that put the big miles in this weekend.
Oh, Poor Mike! Here you go, sweetie! Feel better? How do you think I feel? I sat in the cold Friday evening and Saturday afternoon into evening and didnt' get to see a win!! Well, unless you count my son's drumline, that is! ;)
Thankfully though, my stretching and the orthotics are working on my PF. :woohoo:
That's GREAT!!! Thanks for the chuckle!
Kristi -- good luck on calling Chad's boss's bluff! Sending you both pixiedust:

I remember when you first started posting to the weekly thread! I am so happy for you. And how awesome that you have Harry to keep you company. Jen - the 5k story is great!! I once ran a really hot July 4 5k. There was a man running w/ his little dog and he kept yelling to the dog "don't you quit on me!" The man didn't finish, but the dog looked fine to me!!! I have enjoyed that memory ever since.
Judy - sorry work stinks!!
Cecelia - I love the bite me zone idea!! That is quite an apt description.
Sounds like training is going well for everyone. For those of you training for the full in Jan, where are you w/ your LR distance?
Phil and I did an adventure race this weekend. It was really fun. It, surprisingly, started at midnight and lasted for 17.5 hours. My butt is really sore b/c many of those hours were either on my mt. bike seat or the wooden portage bar of the canoe. We probably did about15-17 miles on foot, 20-30 on bbike and around 14 on the water. I'm pretty tired!! We placed 5th and got some pretty cool prizes. The best was a 6 month supply of coffee from Silver Joe's coffee co. and since phil and I were on the same team, we both got it, so we are set for a year!!!

Erica and I sucessfully completed our 18 mile training walk. We were under 4 and a half hours even without deducting the time spent waiting for stop lights and a potty break.
Good walk and I felt like I could have gone on for a while, but glad to stop anyway. Funny how you rest up just to get tired again. Who's tag line is it "Train to near death, rest, repeat".
Judy, darlin, if I don't get arrested for some of the crap I do at work you should be fine. If God hadn't meant for me to terrorize my co-workers he wouldn't have made them so gullable.

Hey! I've not done anything for today yet but thought I'd say I'm not really sore from yesterday. That is good news. I made apt. to get epidural Thursday to make all those "extra" aches and such be gone so I can sleep at night. Going to try to make it to the gym for some Rest. Pool and light upper body stuff.

Gret result there. You are in sniffing distance of a sub-8 5K, which I think is 24:50 or so. You have the pace to do it, just a bit of sharpening for maybe 4 weeks would get you there. 1 speed workout a week carrying that pace for 200, 400, 800, or 1600 meters in training would produce a bit more speed on a race day with fresh legs.
I suspect with longer races coming soon you may not be interested in in in the coming months, but tuck it away for future use. Too bad GA is 1000 road miles from our home, or I'd do the speed work with you.

Your posted your long effort after my last comments, so 1 day late, "great work out there."

Hey all... I had to opt out of my TM run tonight and did a 50 minute work out video instead. My right foot is sore. You see, I wear the same shoes I always have, but this time in a different color. Ever since I have started wearing this pair, the right one has been bothering me where the laces tie at the ankle. On my 14 miler, at mile 12 I couldn't stand the pain anymore and I pulled out one hole and retied. But I have a bruise there, where the tendons are. I have never had this problem in my other pairs. I have about 60 miles on these shoes and the shorter distances haven't bothered me, but this long one did. UGHHHHH... So I am resting it and will try to lace them different to see if that helps. Otherwise it's off to the store.... except now I have to get the new model that came out.
Jen-GA - ROCK ON with the 5K pace. You are way super speedy!!!!!
SWDave/Cam - I have been doing the crunches again for the last couple of weeks. It's amazing how doing them regularily makes you feel. I do a bunch of other things also like pushups and reverse crunches. All things I am doing in Bootcamp (which I love!!)
Oh and speaking of Football... How about them Packers (AGAIN!!). They smoked the Vikings! My DD's school had a Packer Party Fundraiser so tons of people watched the game on a projection wall in their school gym. It was great fun!!!

DreamBeliever - Welcome!
Jen in GA - Congrats on your victory! Doesn't matter how many people were there, you did great!
Meghan - Good luck. I hope everything works out for you!:wizard:
MSDave - we must have been thinking alike. I've been talking about doing the ab work and finally just got started. I'm doing the "Cam Crunches" too!
MelR - congrats to you and DH on your finish!
Leanna - at least you got the steps in. Even a less than ideal workout has some benefit.
Christa - great job on your 20 (and the .3). I can only dream of yunning that fast. :)
Well, I ended up having to flip flop my training days. Today was to be 8 miles, but I'll do it tomorrow instead. I had to work my pt job today; my Mom is still sick, so taking care of her; the dog had to go to the Vet for a follow-up to some issues. The prognosis: she's old. No kidding:rolleyes: For that I paid almost $300 in the last month? Ok, she did get some medicine for a thyroid problem and arthritis, but they basically said there's nothing really to do. She's not in any pain. She just doesn't have a lot of energy and sleeps alot. Her eyesight and hearing are bad and she has arthritis in her legs. By the time I got home, it was too dark to run outside. So I did the crunches, rode my exercise bike and called it a day. The 8 miles will come early tomorrow, before my Mom or the dog wake up.
A question for you Dancing With the Stars fans. I watch the show when I'm home and I enjoy it. But I think they are changing the initial premise of the show. IIRC, it was originally to pair celebrities with no dancing skills with pro dancers to turn them into ballroom dancers. But now it seems that 1/2 the contestants have previous dance experience. I mean, your have Sabrina from the Cheetah Girls and MelB from Spice Girls; before it was Joey Lawrence and the guy from N Sync. It almost doesn't seem fair to pair these "dancers" against Jerry Springer, Mark Cuban, etc. I think that's why I was happy Emmit Smith won (even if he was a Cowboy;) ) last year (or 2 years ago?).
What do you think?

Hey all, just saying hi. Did 5 miles this morning, knee is happy again - yes, princess momma it is the kneecap going out of alignment, it just seems to track strangely which then causes pain right by the little dip on the outer side - any advice? If I can get it back into place it's fine, but it doesn't seem to want to go at the moment.
It finally clicked back in about 11.30pm, some friends of ours run a Britpop night which was this Saturday but everything ached and I was shattered so I was just limping my way down the steps when it went back into place and the pain stopped - of course then I wanted to go back in and dancing, thankfully Tim steered me away from the door as it was aching all the next day too!!
Otherwise all is good here but is anyone else soooooo looking forward to the drop back runs this weeked, I'm almost giddy with glee that 'all' I have to do is 6 miles on Sat and 12 on Sun. Helen

After my 45 minutes yesterday, the PF is slightly sore today so I guess the orthotics are working. Wish I could get by without them but so far, nothing else has worked so I guess I have to go this direction. :confused3 I made it 5.03 miles in 45 minutes. Not bad but I have definitely lost a lot during this gimp phase. Darned Garmin keeps me honest. :scared: Today is 60 minutes and I would like to make it over 6 miles but since I am running on hills today, we will have to see how it goes. I am getting pretty good at power walking but only about a 14 mpm pace...nowhere near the Great Panda's pace. I have had thoughts of Goofy in 09, running the half and run/walking the full. Am I being too ambitious? :upsidedow Okay....am I being goofy??????;)

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:
I ran yesterday, and had a great run. I think I did about 3.5 miles. My Garmin didn't get a signal until late. However, my goal was to do a hill workout so I wasn't so concerned about distance. I ran a really hilly course outside, and did 2x repeats on the big steep hill on the course. I felt great. I'm going to try to increase the number of hill repeats as time goes on.
My stomach really hurts from those situps. I may need to take a break from them today.

:lmao:
I did my 3.5 miles last night. I skipped my running intervals after the first two miles since I felt my asthma kicking in. I think that even though I was on the indoor track (which is not heated), the cool air was getting to my lungs. I decided to not run, but still get the miles in. Man, are my toes bothering me this morning though! Usually that only happens when I get above 7 miles or so. Weird.
Today is 2 miles or xt. I am going to xt and give the toes a break.
OT - Chad called his boss' bluff yesterday. Basically, his boss said he just wanted to hear Chad say he could work any shift. And he would be 'sensitive' to our situation with Zack at home and try not to use him when I am working. I am going to hope for the best, but this man likes to play his little power game, so we'll see. So, for now things are ok in the job dept. I am still going to start looking for something mother's hours or even in the school system. I think it's time one of us had a "regular" schedule.

Kristi: Glad to hear things semi worked out with the job thing. Something you may want to consider is what I do. I work at home doing medical transcription. I get to set my hours which I work 5 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every day for a total 7 hours (lunch does not count) and then I work 4 hours on Sunday mornings. You have to commit to 40 hours a week to get bennies from most of the at home companies just as a FYI. There are some that will even work you during training. The pay is dependent on your experience but I make enough to pay for trips and the extras in life. Just a thought for you. The flexible schedule is the seller for me, I have a DD13 and DS6 so I hear your pain and agony!! Good luck!!!

Nothing crazy training wise for me. Did an hour on the bike (indoors :sad2: ) last night and plan to get a 5 mile run in at lunch today. I’ve decided I need to start re-using my lunch hour to do something productive workout-wise. I haven’t run during lunch in a long time and I’m not sure why, as it is the perfect hour to knock out a good workout. I’m going to have to sneak out, though, since there’s this guy in my department who runs about once a year and every time I talk about running, he tells me we’ll have to run together at lunch sometime. We’ll see how today goes.
Have a great Tuesday, everyone!

So, haven't done anything today yet. Going to try to do 5 miles on the TM later. I did get a new running jacket in a package yesterday. I'm totally wearing it now- I am such a dork. (OK, actually I got two running jackets and a pair of pants- but they were on sale and I needed them for Goofy, right?!:rolleyes1 )
Anyone else STARVING!? I'm not sure if there was a moment yesterday when I wasn't eating or thinking about eating... I'm trying to keep my choices reasonably healthy, but holy appetite! :scared1:
Jackie- 90% of the world is stupid? That figure may be a little low...;)
Craig- aren't you the math professor!? I couldn't run with you- I'd have to tell you about how I took a drop slip to my calculus professor the second day of class and told her it just wasn't working for me...:rolleyes1 Thanks for the speed advice!
Jen117- a bruise on your foot!? OW!! So sorry. I hate when good shoes go bad! Hope you can make them work or get them out of your life.
PrincessRunner- first, ouch on the PF. BTDT, still ice my heels at least twice a week because I'm so afraid of it! As far as going Goofy, GO FOR IT! (says the girl who is thinking about retiring to just halfs after this first attempt...)
Terri- I am totally with you on DWTS. I don't think it's fair to put someone who's never danced up against someone from a boy band or Spice Girls or whatever. We've all seen the cheesy videos- they may not know the "real" dance steps, but they have performed. (Although for some reason, I don't hold that against Marie even though she's certainly a performer...)
Helen- I rigged my schedule so I think I have to do 8/18 this weekend. I'm already thinking if I can just get past this weekend, the next is 8/13- so I'm with you, acting like 13 is no big deal! It will probably hurt more than the 18 because I'm so happy it's a "low" number...seriously, this is crazy stuff...
Dave- just when I was thinking about the Cam Crunches, you admitted that they hurt! I suspected they might hurt me too... :rolleyes1
Steve- good luck sneaking out! My only problem working out at lunch is that I bring my lunch with me to the office and I eat it around 10:30 a.m. I actually pack an extra half sandwich to get me through the early munchies now.
Kristi- my DH and I work together. It's nice because I have fairly flexible hours, but I hate that when it gets busy we're scrambling around to get the kiddos! Can't imagine what it would be like to throw in a psycho boss!
Cecilia- Thanks!
DreamBeliever- I totally snuck out of the gym the other day to avoid a class one of my friends was teaching. I told her I wasn't coordinated enough, but I really didn't want to have to prove it!
OK, have to stop playing so I can get through the mess in front of me!

Greetings all -
I guess laying on the floor in the living room, panting and moaning while watching someone else on TV do ab work doesn't really count as XT, does it? HOLY COW! I can't even make it thru the entire basic for wimpy beginners video! :headache: I must be a medical phenomenon! I HAVE NO AB MUSCLES! Fortunately I did do 20 min on the TM so this morning wasn't a complete "waist". Well, I'll just keep at it. That's all.
Long Walking Panda - Thank you for your kind words regarding my place of employment. With any luck it will burn to the ground today. Although that will greatly interfere with my DISing. BTW, what was the outcome of the "marker incident"? I thought of that while I was my eye doctor Saturday. I have been wearing glasses for about eight years while at work but now I have to get progressive lenses, as apparently I have trouble reading fine print, which was news to me. Just yet another joy of middle age.
Lily - That sounds like it involves a large needle which scares the heck out of me, but I hope it works miracles for you. :scared:
Hey! It's The Evil Queen! :wave2: Hi Christa! It's OK when you have a case of VTO! But don't leave us for too long!
Jackie - Hey, you're doing good there if it's only 90%. I can't do the math in my head but if we have 3500 people working at this site and 3498 are idiots, what is that percentage? :headache:
Jen - I guess that's what you get or wearing running shoes of a different color! :lmao:
Kristi - Line Chad's boss up for SlapFest 2007. You know what his REAL problem is, don't you? Yeah, EXACTLY! :headache: I thought I heard some Goo news this morning. Did they have a new CD come out today? Sorry about your toes. Good that you are resting them today. Still no volunteer news, eh?

Yes Jen, I'm always hungry. Dieting is very hard for me, I feel like I'm starving if I'm late for a meal. If I could just learn that I don't have to eat till I'm full, I'd be ok.
Did you know that most people are dehydrated? Hydrated people weigh more so your weight can flex up and down depending on how much water you drink the day before. But a hydrated person is a healthy person.
Ruth are you walking the January events? We have several other walkers on the WISH Team.
Today is rest day for Erica and I so we will just do errands and fix the shower door that DD21 broke yesterday. The screw came out of the shower door in her bathroom and she was trying to screw it back in and the screw fell down the drain.
So Bill has fibers that just twitch? He was a rebel even as a baby:

The Queen has been awefully quiet lately, did she get arrested after all?

Who has the bail money? Is there a lawyer in the house? Looks like Judy and I were posting at the same time, weird, so I guess she is still walking around free.
Ok scampering off now.

Welcome Dream Believer. I'm a newbee too. This is my 2nd week with the group.
Speaking of second weeks - I am on week 2 of the 5K program and while I didn't do bad for my first time of 90 sec. jogging 2 min . walking, I didn't quite make the last few jogging segments. I'm not going to move up to the next week until I get this one right.
I also started some strength training this week and I'm a little sore but not too sore to function. I plan on dusting off the YOGA DVD this evening. Hopefully it will loosen me up some.
Talk to you all soon.

Hi team. I can't believe we're already on page 7. I have a lot of reading to do. But first, can I solicit some advice? It's a question whether to train or not to train.
I feel awful, but since I don't have a fever, I managed to go to work yesterday and today. I muddle through for about 6 hours, then leave early and play couch potato.
Headache, sore throat, chest congestion, cough, and stuffy nose. Just your basic crummy cold.
I should do a 5 mile SW today. (First training day since feeling bad.)
Part of me says I should suck it up and do the walk. (No pain no gain; it's just a cold.) Part of me says to just rest.
I've never been in this spot before so I don't know what the experts would advise. Does anyone else know?
Thanks.

I'm definitely not an expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! No, I mean I did just have a cough/cold thing! What I did is not too much on the days I was really coughing. But I did do a few miles and didn't feel too bad. Maybe you could knock down the miles for today and see how you feel. JMTCW!

Kelley - I hope you feel better soon! Some days I've found when I feel crappy that it doesn't bother me if I go out for a run. Give your walk a try, but if you feel drained and you are hacking up a lung I'd say turn around. Don't push yourself if you don't feel up to it though!

I guess I now know what a truly bad run is!! I wanted to go 60 minutes and only made it 55. I had been doing pretty well mpm wise but today it was 11:09  and I only made it 5 miles total. I had some issue going on inside my right shoe which I though was my sock bunching up but it turned out to be a heat blister (yes and it was 40 degrees at 2 p.m. when I started my run  ) which is really serving to irritate me more. I am now FINALLY on the mend and I get a friction blister in all places...my arch!!
Anyway, Kelly, as far as exercise/not exercise I think that you have to listen to your body. If it were me, I would try it and if it hurt or I started coughing more, I would turn back. This is coming from me...the one who forced herself out running last winter come heck or high water even though I was hacking up my right lung and toenail until the doc finally told me I had pneumonia and I could not run under any circumstances for a week. :sad2: Her words were "you are one of those people we really worry about". Don't be one of those people....like me!! Get well soon!!

Beth
Beth, are you running the Victory Junction 1/2? I am not, but tons of my running buddies from Charlotte will be there. Are you wearing your WISH shirt? Let me know. I will tell them to look for you.
WTG JenGa! A win in your age group is so cool!
I just cannot catch up...so sorry guys! At this point, I am trying to get 3 kid's homework finished b/4 I have rehearsal...had a show this morning and will work from 0930 to 1900 tomorrow and something like that Thursday...but my LAST LR for Charlotte is Friday and let the taper begin!:cool1:

Hello, WISHers!
I got my 6 miles done yesterday and it was the best Monday run I've had in a long time! (I left my watch at home so I have no idea of my pace, but it was decent.)
Today after work and errands I went to the Y for xt on the bike - 40 minutes. Love sitting there reading a magazine!
You all are killing me - trying to keep up with this thread is tough work!
Lisa - Jealous that you get to do the Minnie! (And there's a reason they call it the "Goofy"!
Martha - WTG with your longest-ever run! It is so fun making those milestones! Did you ever think when you started running that you'd be able to run 17 miles?!?
cugill - Many of my runs are taken one step at a time!
Kristi - How was the parent-teacher conference? I just started working in a preschool, which is great for being there with the kids!
Jen in GA - Congrats on running your age group! It counts, no matter how many people were entered. (Reading your later post, I guess you could have placed even if you'd stopped with that guy for some coffee! That would be pretty funny!)
Leana - Looks like a great week of workouts planned
Dream Believer - :welcome:
PatsBill - Sounds like you should keep DD up really late before every swim meet!
Tricia - Hope the shin splints heal up and you can get back to it!
Sara - PD for DS's croup!
Judy - Sorry work feels like a prison - hope you get parole!
Meghan - Welcome back! I hope you can get a diagnosis and start getting better!
MSDave - Good to have you back around! I should be doing crunches; I've slacked off on my core training since my hip has been feeling better.
Melissa - Adventure racing rocks! I think I'm too old to take it up, but I think it's fabulous you're out there!
Epcotdude - I can do a half, but not on a treadmill. Kudos!
WWDave - WTG to you and Erica with the 18 miler!
Lily - Glad to hear you're not too sore!
Christa - Welcome back, speed queen!
Jackie - How's the ankle?
Stephanie - I agree this thread is getting ridiculously long quickly!
Jen - It's amazing how much difference (good and bad) shoes can make!
Terri - I end up flip flopping a lot! You gotta do what you gotta do. I agree the "stars" are definitely starting out with more dancing skills, but I have to admit I enjoy watching the better dancers much more than the plodders.
littlegreydonkey - Your knee sounds just like my sisters!
Steve - DH is trying to get his workouts done at lunch; it can be challenging but is definitely a good way to use your time!
Sorry if I missed anyone - I really didn't mean to snub anybody!
Happy training, all!

Renee - WOW!! And I thought some of my catch up posts were huge. I think you got everybody!! :thumbsup2
I am not even gonna try today!! Michael and I went out for a 2 mile run (r2/w1) and finished in 26:53 (13:26 mpm). Then I went out for a 5 mile run by myself. I ran 2 miles, then swung by the house to throw dinner in the oven, then headed out for the last 3. Total time of 40:32 (8:09 mpm), of course I stopped the timer when I tossed dinner in the oven. Dinner will be ready in about 5 minutes I just wanted to post our runs while I was thinking about it!!

Kelley - I ran last spring when I felt like crap and ended up at the doctor's office later in the week. He told me I hadn't done any harm by running as long as I was used to doing the miles. It did, however, wipe me out for days, but that may have been the cold as much as the run.
Renee - Ankle MAY be improving. I'm focusing on stretching the feet and calves and seeing if that helps. Thanks for asking!
Ruth/DreamBeliever - Welcome! We're at POFQ too in January. I'm run/walking the Donald - we can at least start together!
Jen in Ga - I'm hungry all the time. I keep telling myself I'm burning the calories so it's okay to eat, but I know that's not really true. And yeah, I know 90% may be low, but I was trying not to hurt too many feelings! That same night, DD and I went to see "Mamma Mia" and I heard a woman say to her friend as she stopped at the restroom "Save me a seat," and I thought "Yep, another stupid person. You have a ticket, lady, so you HAVE a seat!"
Ran 3 miles tonight. This was the first run post-injury that I actually can say felt good. Splits were 12:16, 12:46, 11:52. That's pretty darn good for me! We'll see how the feet feel tomorrow morning, but I'm hoping this is a good sign!

Kelly - I just wanted to repeat a bit of what everyone else was saying. The rul of thumb is that if the symptoms are at the neck or aboce you are OK to excersize, and if they are below you need to rest. A few months back I had a REALLY bad cold I just couldn't seem to kick. I had a cough but it truly felt like it was in my throat, so after trying to rest a few days with no luck in kicking the cold I decided to run through it. That first run loosened up alot of the gunk and helped me kick the cold faster, at least it felt that way. It truly is up to you. Give it a try and if it feels like it's too much then rest until you feel better.

Judy - I'm glad to see Charlie's getting some XT in!;):lmao:
Renee - we were actually quite shocked. Zack's teachers only had nice things to say about him. We kept waiting for the "but he does x, y, & z." :rotfl:
Judy - I thought I posted about the volunteering. Basically the person at WWOS said it made no difference if we signed up as a group, or separately. I will try to find that old thread and bump it to see if we can get more people for our little group. Also, don't feel too bad about the pilates. I can't do that (even the beginner DVDs) to save my life! I do like the Mina Lessig DVDs though for xt. Now only if I would actually do them more often!
And Judy - see my siggie....why yes, the Goo Goo Dolls released their Greatest Hits Vol. I yesterday!
I hope you were out buying your copy after your ummm... "crosstraining!" ;)
Kelley - I've heard the same thing about exercising when you are sick. Above the neck, yes - below, no.
I bailed on xt yesterday...
I had an epiphany this morning - It finally dawned on me why I am so tired and crazy all the time. I work really early in the morning, 3:30-11:30am. Oh, and I commute 45 mins. each way. So take yesterday for example: I then met my mom after work and did some furniture shopping with her until about 3pm. I then ran through Sam's Club & the grocery store. I went home for about 15 mins. to unload to groceries that needed to be kept cold. Out the door again to pick up Zack at school and head directly to tae kwon do. P/U Burger King for Zack after TKD since it's 6:45pm and too late for me to even try to cook. Head right home. Get Zack a bath and to bed. Now, I have to make my lunch and get my clothes ready for today. I think I went to sleep at 9:30pm. My alarm goes off at 2:40am. So, it's kind of like a 'normal' person - leaving work at 5pm then running around until 1am! And I do this most days!
It's not a wonder I skip some of my workouts, or am dragging through others.
I really need to get a handle on this and get more rest!
Thanks for letting me vent! :goodvibes

How well does the elipitical work in keeping you trained when you can not run?
I have a girl who is training for her first marathon that has had lots of knee issues. SHe has been training on an eliptical for 3 weeks now while going through PT for the knees. Will she be able to jump back into her runs?

Hi everyone. I know I stink cause I have the hardest time keeping up with this thread. I'm very sorry! :surfweb:
JenGA, congrats on your race! Wow, you are fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo:
I'm preparing for my Thanksgiving Day 10K and I feel like a slug. DH ran with me early Sunday morning on the Silver Comet Trail since the girls had spent the night out. I ran 5.25 miles with an average pace of 10:42, but it about killed me. I had gone to a hockey game the night before and blamed it on that. I've been really trying to keep my pace under 11:00 so I was satisfied, but hurting.
Yesterday DH and I did a different run while the girls were at school. We ran near where our 10K will be. I ran 5.40 with an average pace of 11:21. :headache: I had a severe headache the rest of the day.
I definitely felt better when I was preparing for the Race for the Taste. I'm also up five pounds. :sad1: I don't know what is wrong with me.
I'm questioning myself for signing up for my first half in March. I read your posts and all the LRs you guys are doing and I really question if I'll be able to do it. I'm even worrying about my 10K and if I'll be able to reach my goal of an under 11:00 pace.
I know, I sound like a whiner. :sad2:
Tonight I'm going to that safety clinic at my local running store. It has been nice having DH run with me these last two runs, but that was just luck. My personal running alarm did come in the mail yesterday. It fits up on your upper arm. I look like Inspector Gadget with all the stuff I have hanging off me now when I run. :lmao:

Cecilia--I had to do that for the WDW marathon. My IT band started aching on mile 11 of my 18 miler, ended up stopping at 13 miles. I took the next week a little slower, lots of treadmill runs, etc. On my 20 miler, my IT band flared up again and I had to walk the last 10 miles. I did not run at all for the 3 weeks between my 20 miler and the marathon, I only did the ellipitical and the stationary bike. I didn't lose anything during those 3 weeks--not endurance, aerobic capacity, or muscle tone. I finished the marathon, not pretty, slower than expected because my IT band reared it's ugly head at mile 7, but I finished the marathon.
I ran 3 miles last night on the treadmill, I finished in 33:00, I'd love to get back into the 10:00's again, but I'm having trouble pushing myself because I have nothing to push myself for. But I'm proud of myself for even getting out there and running without having something to train for. Tonight is supposed to be xt night, but I didn't have time to get my gym bag together this morning. I think I may just walk on the TM and crank up the incline to like 4.0 and call that xt!!!!
Kelley--I hope you are feeling better soon!!
Judy--Maybe Stephen and I need to xt like you and Charlie!!! ;)
Kristi--You're life sounds so chaotic! No wonder you never feel like training, I certainly wouldn't if I were in your shoes. Any luck on the job search yet?
Jen GA--Congrats on your 5K win!! That is awesome! I can't believe you take Prince Harry (;) ) on all your lr's with you, that is amazing!! The body glide on the feet and then the footie pajamas had me :rotfl: !
Dana--How is the fundraising going for you and Michael? I think it's absolutely wonderful he is running the 5K for a charity, I think this is really going to impact his life.
MS Dave--HEY! Nice 5 mile run!!! Are you training for anything right now? By the way, I'm supposed to tell you that Hines says "hi". :thumbsup2

If you run at all during the race, then you should register as a runner. If you register as a walker, than you shouldn't run at all, especially if there is a prize involved.

Hi Everyone,
I haven’t been posting lately because I just can’t find the time. Putting in extra miles really does take up a lot of time. The training is going OK. I’m getting in all my LRs, but I’ve had to skip a few SRs and speed w/o between LTO and getting sick. Hopefully most of that is behind me now and the next 9 weeks will be blip-free.
Dream Believer: Welcome. I hope you find this board helpful.
JenGa: Your race was impressive, but what I find even more so is that you’re doing your LRs pushing the stroller. You rock.
Jackie: Glad your run felt good.
Kristi: Your schedule does sound exhausting. It is really hard to get motivated to exercise when you’re so tired.
Shan: I think March is plenty of time to get ready for a ½. Just map out your training plan and trust in the plan.
Lisa: Sorry about the bad run and the blisters. I think the bad runs just help you appreciate the good ones. Hope the next one is better.
Renee: Glad you had a good run.
Judy: Good job on trying to get some ab work done. That counts for something.
Have a great day everyone.

Just quickly checking in. Billy was sick Saturday and Sunday and graciously shared it with Timmy who was sick Monday and Tuesday. He decided to share it with me so after being out yesterday trying to rest, I am hoping that today will be the last miserable day. Lynnda is doing well trying to take care of us but I am sure that she is wanting to run out the door as fast as possible right about now. :lmao:
I did get a long run Saturday (8 miles) and a short walk Monday (3 miles). My shin/ankle were bothering me so I may rest this week and recover. The fact I have no energy will probably help as well keeping me inside the house.
I think I have used up my limit of reading the computer before my head explodes. I hate not being able to focus on things for more than 1 minute right now.

Shan - You have a ton of time to prepare for your half. Try not to stress out too much about your goal pace for your 10K. Just go out and have fun. When you worry too much about pace you may not hit your goal, and you definitely won't have a good time. As for feeling sluggish on you run....I know how that feels. My run on Monday felt terrible, yet I ran the same pace as my run on Sunday. I guess every run can't be terrific, but that doesn't help make you feel any better at the time. Good luck!!!!

Yes, thank you. We walkers take our sport just as seriously as any runner. When someone is a runner they can walk to take a break, but when you sign as a walker then running is not allowed.
This is an issue for me since if I protest I look like a spoil sport, but If I let it go I miss the award I earned. Fortunately our walking community here has grown to the point that when someone is running during our walk races which are seperate from the run races, a lot of people jump on them.
Several of our races award cash prizes and nice trophys for the walk race as well as the run race.
Angie thanks for asking.
Walking Panda:hippie:
Wow, I never thought of this whole walking/running issue b4, but it's absolutely true. If you sign up to walk, then you should do just that - it never occured to me-DUH-that it wasn't ok to run 'cause there are different prizes AND times that need to be awarded appropriately. Besides, I would think that some people are quite capable of run/walking, but choose to only walk. Glad the question was asked.

WWDave, Mike, Vic: boys, boys, boys. Does Queen Judy need to make an appearance?
Bill: sorry to hear the little ones were sick but how nice that they shared with you! You are special. I hope you get well really soon.
lenshanem: good luck on your 10K! Hope the safety class goes well.
Kristi1357: I have no idea how you do it! I may be awake at 3:00am but I certainly don't get up and go to work at that hour. To say nothing of having to take care of a little one and do all the errands. I'm tired too just reading about it!
After the muscle issue around my ankle after sunday's LR, I rode the bike yesterday and it was good to loosen up my legs. Today will be 30 min run just to be extra careful. Any sign of pain and I stop. I had to promise DH I would do that or he wouldn't return my shoes.
I'm starting to think about my 3 1/2 hour run this coming weekend. Honestly, I think I'm a little nuts! My DD is convinced of that.

Greetings all -
Today was a rest day so I slept until 6:00am What bliss! :goodvibes Sleep really is a wonderful thing and I should try it more often.
Tonight is dinner with the in-laws. :headache: That in itself should be considered XT since it take a lot of strength to hold my tongue. It is my MILs 80th birthday. I'm sure you all remember the lovely birthday gift she gave me this year..... those regifted gardening boots that she was giving to Goodwill anyway.
OptimatorMike - OMG! What kind of a girl do you think I am?!?!?!
Jen - Help! :yay: Protect me from these maniacs!
WWDave and Vic - Oh stop trying to look innocent you two! You're just as bad as he is. :upsidedow I'm going over to Karla's ice bath thread as soon as I am done here.
MSDave - Excellent pace! :thumbsup2 Glad you had your groove on.
Kristi - See how "Goo aware" I have become thanks to you? :thumbsup2 You DO need to sleep more. Yeah, that's the reason I am so crazy and tired all the time too. OK yes I did see the bumped volunteers thread.
Krista - Now you KNOW I was moaning and panting from the really difficult Pilates I was attempting to do, don't you? :rolleyes1 I too was looking for Sunny...
Bill - Oh no! :wizard: How nice of everyone to share. Hope you all feel better today!

I so admire all of you who can keep up with everything every day. You rock! In punishment to my inferior body due to the run yesterday, I took out the bike today and rode 11.6 miles in 60 minutes up many hills and refused to come out of high. Now, I can hardly walk and I have the entire house left to clean. :sad2: My day off and this is how I spend it, laundry, cleaning, groceries, oh, and exercise...:laundy:
Hope all who are sick are feeling better  and everyone gets their miles in today!! :yay:

Did 5 yesterday outside. I realized there's always a bar in front of me when I'm running (don't go there- I mean the TM or stroller handles). Running reasonably unencumbered (water, iPod) was a bit awkward at first, but ended up being fun.
Today I did 8 miles on the TM. I'm starting to realize how crazy our training is outside the world of WISH. Two of my friends were on the TMs talking about exercising, and all I could think was "If I told them I did 17 miles last Sunday, that would seriously kill their conversation!" Then the little retired guys who like to heckle me every day wanted to know how far I'd gone, and I told them "about an hour" even though it was longer than that, because I didn't want to look crazy. ;) I'm now hiding my training from the normal world. :rolleyes1
I'm glad the walker question was asked too- it makes total sense. I've never seen a competitive walker in a 5k locally and they rarely offer "walker" as a category. I'd love to see walkers. I'd enter a lot more races with Emma if they had a walker division (and trust me, with Princess Emma there would be no running!)
Hey- what the heck is an Optimator? Is it the brand of beer or the glass liter? DH didn't know. He's very disturbed that he might have missed this one... THis from a man who once returned from the kiosk in Norway without my Diet Coke, but with an enormous beer. Apparently, the cute Norwegian girl asked him if he wanted a "manly drink or a girly one" and he used my Diet Coke money to be manly... (they only have the little size now but I still tease him in Norway)
Sorry guys, all about me again. Got to get to work now. Everyone be good!

The Detroit half I did in October had three categories:
runner
competitive walker - no running allowed
walker - mostly walking, but occassional running allowed
The competitive walkers had bibs to wear on their backs identifying them as comp walkers - I guess so they could be monitored to see if they truly walked the whole time.
I'm not sure how many walkers were allowed, but registration for both walker categories filled before the runner category.
I would think that any time you are in position of earning an award you need to make sure you are in the correct category - I never have to worry about that:lmao: :lmao:

Kelly and anyone else who has a question about colds. I just got this in my email from sparkpeople.com. So I thought I would post it here for evreyone else .
Question: I assume it's not a good idea to exercise when one has a cold. What are your thoughts on this?
Expert Answer
Great question! When you are sick, you need to pay careful attention to what your body is telling you. If the cold is primarily in your head, it's okay to exercise, just at a lower intensity (provided you feel okay and have enough energy). Once you are feeling 100% again, then you can slowly increase your activity back to your pre-illness level. If your feeling sluggish or the workout isn't going well, don't push it. When you push too much, the sickness can end up hanging around longer.
If your cold is below the neck (in your chest), try to refrain from activity until it clears up. The best thing you can do for your body when it's trying to fight a bug is to give it rest.
Exercise Extra: Regular exercise strengthens your immune system, so you'll get sick less often and usually recover from an illness more quickly.
As far as fundraising. Michael and I are still doing pretty well. I am getting ready to send out my Christmas cards and will be sending a letter asking for donations along with it (I hope that isn't rude?!). I am also getting ready to put quite a few things up on EBAY to help supplement our remaining donations that we need. Michael is at $265.00, and I have $120.00, so out of our $1000.00 total we are still short about $515.00. Michael is really liking the fundraising. He was especially excited to find out that he is raising the money to help one little girl in particular. Her name is Alyssa and he is excited that he will get to meet her in January. I actually heard him talking to one of his neighborhood friends about it the other day. Telling her that he is running to help kids who have A-T, and explaining how at one point they were normal and could run and play and that slowly they lose the ability to do so and end up in wheelchairs, and those most don't live past being teens. It's amazing how INTO it he has really gotten.

Dana - If you can, go to the AT dinner marathon weekend. It is so moving! And in DL, they had certain guest celebrities show up during dinner... I raised money for them at last year's DL half. And my Mom raced for them at WDW last year. They are a wonderful organization! If I wasn't so scared of that $500 min., I would race for them every single time.
Judy - "Goo aware" :lmao: I knew there was a reason I loved ya!
When they tour again later next year for their next album, I think I am going to come to NY/CT and take you to a show. :goodvibes
I have 3.5 miles on deck today. I will do them on the track while Zack is in gym class. His class is 45 mins., so I may not get to 3.5, but I will wog as much as I possibly can before he's done class.
I am also getting my butt to Weight Watchers tonight if it kills me. I need a swift kick in the behind! I have 6 weeks to look better before the famous Goo Vegas trip! :rotfl: I better start getting more sleep as well.

So, Dana, I have been fund raising too......it's been hard! I have been doing an ongoing bake sale (making cookies, breads, and muffins). I am fund raising for The Victory Junction Camp for sick kids in N.C. I am doing a 1/2 marathon on December 2nd and have been fund raising for about 3 weeks. I am about $250 away from my goal......I think fund raising is harder than doing the actual race!!!:confused3

I got 3 miles done on the track today. I even got home & did about 8 mins of abs with Mina Lessig. It would have been 12 mins., but the DVD kept choosing the 'roll like a ball' exercise & that kills my tail bone! I always skip the "strength" part of my training, so me doing any abs was a great improvement. :rotfl:
Now, off to Weight Watchers to kick my behind back into gear!
I have only 6 more weeks to Vegas, baby! ;)

Got in a 4 mile tempo run today--hopefully will be able to run tomorrow or Friday. DD has a Thanksgiving feast at school tomorrow, so DS and I are joining her for lunch. It should be really cute (but darn it, cutting into my training time!;) )
JenGA--Aaah, yes, the Optimator. It's a kind of beer they offer in the German pavilion. Spaten Optimator--super yummy, but a little on the dark side, heavier on the alcohol. It's super yummy. DH and I always stop at the little beer/pretzel stand in Germany to get one (or maybe two, depending on the trip!)
Kristi--all I can say is WOW on your schedule! I did night's for a while after Emma was born and it about killed me, and I was only working 1 or 2 a week.
Stacie--WELCOME!
cguill--I was in your shoes last year. I was training for a race, but not Disney as I decided late in the ballgame to give the 26.2 a try. But even though I wasn't training for the same race most others were, this group of great people got me through the great times and pulled me out of the valleys! The weekly thread just keeps going on, and on, and on (kinda like the Energizer bunny) regardless of event. Keep posting, so we'll get to know you better
Judy--hope the IL dinner wasn't too much torture!
Well, I should go and make sure hte kidlets haven't destroyed anything. DH is away on business for a couple days, so I'm "single parenting" it. Many kudos to any single parents around here--I've had just about as much as I can take already!

Will a new one start right after the 2008 events are over ??? I would be interested in coming back then, we are just at different points in our training ....
Don't worry these weekly threads are for everyone not just the ones doing the races in January. I think there are specific threads that talk more about what everyone will be doing in January at the WDW races, this one here is mainly to discuss everyone's training no matter where they are in their training. I for one am not running in January so don't feel like you are the only one not doing the 2008 events in January. I think since its so close to the January races and so many WISHers are going to be there they are all strictly focused on those events and that is what they are mainly focusing on - I am sure those that are doing the Goofy must be going GOOFY right now with training - that is ALOT of miles :scared1: !!!
As for me there hasn't been much training going on and it doesn't look good for training coming up any time soon. My shoulder pain has become constant now (used to be off and on and only really bothered me after a LR) For some reason (sitting here at the computer) it started bothering me non stop since last night. The last time I was out running was yesterday AM but I only did 2 miles. I called a Dr. but the one I want to go to isn't available until next week and I am going out of town this weekend and won't be back until Tuesday so I got an appointment for Tuesday afternoon. I am hoping it isn't anything major :scared: as I am so ready to get back out there and get some miles in. I really should be getting off this thing since it doesn't make my shoulder feel any better

I differ in opinion. I feel a GREAT connection to everyone on this board. I did not get to meet all at ToT and I am not in training for the 2008...but I am in training for the Minnie and will be at the 2009 (still unsure how Goofy I am yet). I agree. Stay away from these people. They're strange. All of them. I just post here so I can look at everyone else's weirdness and feel more normal myself.
Kidding. I honestly have to agree with the others. This group is great if you're training for ANY event. Most of the discussion on this forum focusses around general training and encouragement, not so much specifically for one event. True, most are training for WDW 2008, but the friendships on this board go way past one single event. I'll tell you this much. This January will be the first marathon weekend that Krista and I aren't going to be with her parents in WDW, and you know what? We're somewhat excited that we'll have that much more time to spend with this great group. I think that says a lot about what's become of this WISH team.
Hope you can stick around and get to know everyone. There are so many now, I really have trouble keeping up with everyone on a semi-consistent basis, but just jump in and keep posting about your training, life in general, etc. Everyone will completely understand, as we're all endurance athletes and all go through some of the same struggles in our daily lives.
Good to have you here!

Judy - I think holding your tongue at your In-laws is definately cross training! I have to do the same thing and its hard.
Krista - Thanks for answering about the eliptical. I know she will be glad to hear that.
Shan - We all have rough runs. Sometimes we have several in a row. The trick is to keep trying. It will get easier with consistant effort. You have lots and lots of time before the ING half to get ready. Hang in there!

We will see if my legs/body took the hint yesterday and can run an acceptable pace (for me anyway:rotfl: ). It is pouring buckets here which is good I guess because about 3 hours north, they are getting piles of snow!! I have 45 minutes of running today and then weights. Good thing I will be in the gym, I guess, even though I dislike being indoors. I read the other day that people who exercise outside are 60% more likely to stick with their exercise program. Guess we are not ALL crazy....:confused3

cecilia: YUK on the flu!! OK, so if you don't listen too closely to your body but get the general idea that you should rest, that's listening good enough.
Stephanie: let us know how the Thanksgiving feast at DD school goes! Look at it this way, you're carbo loading for the upcoming training run. Then you need to carbo reload to make up for the deficit! That's my strategy and it's working really well.
WWDave (aka Panda): LOVED the picture of Bill!
Bill: you are very photogenic! Didn't know you could get so involved in a sport! ;)
cguill: please don't go away! We welcome everyone and are very supportive of any race you are running! There is another thread for posting your race results and stories after you've run one; it's usually started around the end of the week and lists what races people are running. We want to hear how your workouts are going. And post your results here too!
TnTsParty: sorry to hear about the shoulder pain. :wizard: for it to get better!
I worked out with my trainer this morning. She always hurts me but in a good way. I have next week off due to the holiday and I may mix things up a little for long runs. I usually do my long runs on Sundays and will run 3 1/2 hours this weekend. However, I think I might do the long run on Friday after Thanksgiving rather than on Sunday. I don't hit the malls that day so this will give me something to do. Anything to break up the monotony.
Have a great day everyone!

Hey cguill! I do understand what you are saying. I am not running WDW08 (1st time in 4 years I haven't run it) so I also sometimes feel out of the loop. However, this is a great group. Where are you in your training? I bet someone on the thread is there too. I think I have seen some of your posts. You are pretty speedy! Speaking of training....
I ran 3.5 yesterday. Not really sure of the pace b/c for some reason, my watch stopped at 11 min. So I am going to say I ran 3.5 in 11 min. Ha Ha Ha! I think I was doing like an 8 MPM...but not sure. It was kinda hill work. Just b/c my neighborhood is so hilly.

Greetings -
Many thanks for those who sent me PD to get thru last night. I will spare you the torturous details, but my MIL made it painfully clear that my husband and I are quite boring. We spend all our time "going to Disneyland to ride the kiddie rides". And I spend all my time "cleaning that damn barn and working in that office". :headache:
Yup. That's exactly how it is. I took the high road so many times last night I think I earned an high-altitude driver's license. Although I was spittin' mad, I kept my cool.
I also got grilled my FIL on " exactly how far do you RUN?" He seemed to be skeptical that I was able to "run" at all. :sad2:
Anyway, ignoring all that....
Today is the second anniversary of my fist ever day of training! :yay: Looking at my training log I see on that day I did 30 min on the TM at 2.5 and I was thrilled with it!
This morning I did 45 min on the TM @ 1%, 25 of them at 4.0 and the rest at 4.2. It was really warm here but raining like crazy! I really really hope it's nice for Saturday. I have seven miles to do. I won't say "run" because we all know how boring I am that I actually don't "run" the whole thing.
Vic - OK I can understand not being able to keep up, but stick with us, will ya? Because I miss you when you don't post.
Terri - Oh no! I hope your mom is getting better. :wizard: "Cam crunches"

OK! I think I am going to go into taper mode!
Let me explain and please let me know what you guys/gals think!
B/c I was at WDW I swiched my 22 miler on 11/2 for nothing and moved it to the next week...11/9 (last week).
Clear as mud so far?:lmao:
Anyway, I did 20 on 11/9. THis week was supposed to be a 24:eek: miler but I was "just" going to do 20 or 22. But all my running buds in Charlotte think I should just go into my taper and do:
Tomorrow: (11/16)12 mile tempo run at race pace...with neg splits
Next week: (11/26)Slow 15 miler..at 9:45/10 MPM pace
The week after that (12/1......1 week b/4 marathon) 8 miles slow...9:45/10 MPM pace
12/8 - Marathon day!
THis would give me a LOOOONG 4 week taper...but they think I am very well trained for this marathon and doing another LR (back to back) would put me at risk for getting hurt.
FYI: I did 2 20 milers....1st one in 2:55 and 2nd one in 2:56. that is around an 8:40 pace.
And you guys know how much I run/bike...ect....:rolleyes1
So what do you think? Is this what I should do?

CAtching up from last week:
Helen - I hear teh DL Segway tour is awesome. You even practice in teh park. Hate to say it, but that may be your better choice.
Dana - Sorryyou had to cut your LR short. I can't do over 60 min on teh TM, so I can't imagine going as long as you did. We had a stonker fro our 18-miler before 06, but our 20-miler went fine. You will be fine!
OK, did 5 miles Saturday adn wante dto keep a 12 mpm pace, so that I could give my all in teh 5K. WIth seemeingly little effort, I did sub 11:30!! It was very hilly too. (Dave, across the highway from Kensington in Island Lake). We had a little more time than I wanted before teh race, but I didn't want to have to push my pace to get to registration in time. Plenty of tiem to change into dry clothes. It was a bit chilly, but a beautiful fall day.
ABout 60 people in teh race. There were walkers, so we were not last. One girl did a w/r. SHe had just started in Sept. I was so proud of her!
Started off wayy fast,a s it was predominantly boy cc runners. (Um, Scott, we're sub-9, think we could slow it down a little?) Well, my goal was sub 11 and we didi 10:47!!! WOo hoo!!! We averaged 11:10 fro teh eight miles. FOr teh first time since May, I feel like our 5 hour marathon goal may be possible!!
Had 2 more great runs this week! on for 45 min tonight adn then we'll do our 16-miler on SUnday. This shoudl tell us a lot about pace and how my leg is holding up. Has felt great lastely, though!
OK, now to start reading this weeks thread. :upsidedow

Hey all... 40 minutes on the TM last night and it was forced. I so didn't want to be doing that. Tonight is Bootcamp, I am kind of liking getting beaten down every Thursday!
Judy - OH dear! Tongue biting is a good quality with the in-laws. My MIL could care less about my running. She told everyone that I am doing a 10K instead of a marathon so now everyone thinks I am wacko for being excited about the race. I mean it's only a 10K... you know anyone can do that... right!!!
Carrie - YAH on getting the running back! I am so happy to hear that!
Oh... gotta run... lunch time.

Bill: how's the cold?
It is a little better today. At least I don't feel like my head is about to explode into millions of pieces. I would still enjoy being able to breathe normally but I'll take my head not hurting instead. Tonights run is not looking very good right now. It may turn into a walk or possibly a nap on the couch instead. :rolleyes1

Christa - I am in no way an expert, but I honestly think you'll be alright. I also think that your friends are right, you are awesomely (is that a word?) trained for this race, you have put in 2 - 20 milers, along with your kick butt bike riding. I think that as long as you keep the distances in check and maybe throw in some nice Marathon pace miles in those runs that you will do just fine!! You are attempting sub 4 this race right?! I think you can definately do it!! And a 3 week taper will give your legs that extra amount of rest!!

Oh my....it's been forever since I posted here. :rolleyes1 So I finally delurk. Long story short is that last year my marathon training TANKED starting with a long string of injuries beginning with post tib tendonitis then achilles tendonitis and ending with a hip nerve injury that caused my training to stop after my longest LR of 16 Miles! :sad2: Sooo....I never got the long runs in...and never trained past Thanksgiving last year. I did finish the marathon thanks to my running partner (SCOTT!!! :goodvibes ) and lived to tell the tale. I guess I quit posting b/c it was so hard to face the possibility of not being able to run...and feeling sorry for myself...yada yada. Now this year...I have been keeping my journal but was afraid to jinx myself by posting LOL!
So what does a girl do who has a tremendously bad experience with her first marathon??? Umm....sign up for the :goofy:. Go figure ;). Made perfectly logical sense back in February. Not sure I'm all there!
Training thus far has been very good for me. I found that Pilates got me through the injury and helped me recover...so I decided to get my certification. I think that has helped carry me through the difficulties of marathon training this time around! I've run two Half Marathons since WDW 07...both were successful and injury free! :goodvibes I've modified my training this year and I only do 3 runs and 1 walk/run...currently one 6 miler, one 5 Mile tempo and the obligatory weekend LR. In adition, the day before the long run is my half distance walk/run (trying to maintain under 13 mpm). I also do two days of cardio XT...and between teaching and taking classes log about 6 hours of Pilates per week. Phew! So far that has worked for me. Like Craig...my body can't handle the punishment of lots of miles...so I'm just trying to keep the distances reasonable so I don't fall apart. Showing up healthy is goal number one this year. It stinks to run a marathon injured and sick. I've been keeping my LR pace just under 10 mpm and starting to get my short runs in the low 9s FINALLY! Not setting any land speed records but I feel pretty comfy in this zone. It's been a long journey back from injury land!
Goals for the Goofy: FINISH! Going to walk/run the Half and enjoy the experience. As for the Full...I plan to run it and hope to redeem my abysmal experience from last year. It is going to be grueling...but I want it to be rewarding too!
Thanks for listening. I will try my best to keep up with this thread. You guys are uber-chatty. Everyone is so inspiring and doing a fantastic job with their runs! Train happy Wishers :sunny:.

Hello
As with my partner up there...it's been a looonnngggg time since I've posted here on the events thread. I've been lurking and following many of your stories and successes...but for now, please allow me to do one big generic GREAT JOB to everyone!
I won't rehash a lot of what Amy said up there, I too completed the full in '07 along with two half marathons (ironic? I think not :rotfl: ) and am training for the Goofy this January. Ok, ok...maybe that should have read "I'm training to get those super secret cool medals that they are going to hand out this year in honor of the 15th running" ;)
My goals are the same (see a pattern yet?)...to FINISH. But I do want to have a ton of fun along the way...taking it super easy during the half and then shoot for a respectable time during the full.
I wish everyone the best of luck with their respective trainings and am looking forward to being more involved here with this thread.
...off to go prepare for todays wind-infused slightly chilly 5 miler!!
Have a good day!

I forgot to mention about the safety clinic I went to last night at my local running store. Mostly stuff I knew, but they also had these two guys that just about beat each other to death. We went over some moves, but seriously I'd think you have to take their class on a regular basis to automatically do what they were showing us in a situation.
One thing I do know, I gotta lose the headphones. I tried it a few times but went back to them. Last night they showed how easy it is for someone to run up behind and use your headphones to strangle you with. It was quite an eye opener.

So that's a cheery thought about the headphones, Shan! :scared1: I always worry about keeping the volume down so I can hear traffic- didn't think about this problem. I probably need to end my dependency on the iPod and just save it for the TM.
Did 5 miles outside after eating Thanksgiving lunch at DD's school. For those of you running on Thanksgiving, I'd recommend running first. I made it, but it was SLOW. :rolleyes1
Hope everyone is doing well!

Wow, that is scary about the headphones. I know I do try to keep the volume down low, but there have been times when I have been startled on the rail trail when someone passes me. I never thought about the headphones being used as a weapon against you.
No time to read through all the posts. This week so far 5.5 miles on TM Tuesday, 4 miles TM Wed and will be going to pump class tonight and try to get in a couple more miles before class.

OK...so I wanted to just catch up with a few of my old events thread buddies!
Carrie! GREAT job on the race! I know you've been battling the injury bug this year. Sounds like you are in great form now!!!
Jen in GA....Wanted to post that your 5K time was SMOKIN' last weekend! Total envy of the speed. GREAT effort out there....you should be so proud!
Shan...did you ever go for that pilates class? :) And hey...that is terrifying what you learned in that class. I'll never look at my iPod the same way :guilty: .
Cindy...RnR SD! OMG...was hoping to do that one LAST year but the injury sidelined me! I can't wait to hear how it goes. I really plan to run that one someday in the not too distance future. Just not this year unfortunately. I just ran the RnR San Jose and in the spring did the Country Music in Nashville. those races! They are so well organized...and great support along the course! Congrats on signing up!!!!
Cecelia...sorry to hear you're sick :(. I had to cut my run short yesterday. A stomach bug just snuck up on me and I've been kind of laid out all day. Ugh! HATE missing training. I feel like i'm losing my mind today. I really hope you recover quickly!!!!

Christa - I think you should be fine w/ a 4 week taper!
Nothing going on here. Boy is out of school next week, so nothing will be going on then either. I did do an 8 mile run today w/ some big hills. Still sore from the 17 1/2 hrs of adv. race. I did start a weight lifting program AGAIN!! Maybe I'll stick w/ it this time. I would like to do that 50k this year w/o a TON of knee pain.
Cecelia - I'm so sorry to hear that you have the flu. I hope you get better soon. Your dr. can give you some anti flu meds to shorten it if you are not very far along into it. At any rate, get better soon

Hi guys - I got another 4 miles in today over lunch. It was so nice on the pathways - I have to eat up the sunshine before the snow really and truly moves in. I ran it in 42:57, so just a bit slower than yesterday's time, but I had slightly more consistent mile splits.
Tomorrow is a rest day, then it is 6 miles on Saturday and 12 miles on Sunday. This Saturday is the Ryan Shay 5.5 Mile Memorial Run in your hometown. It is a virtual race in honour of Ryan, so I'm running 5.5 miles for him, then the last 0.5 miles for me.
Another virtual race is 8 on the 8th. You can check out the link here in case you are looking for a little bit of extra motivation:

On a sad note I've had to quit curling. Work is absolutely insane right now and I'm going to have to spend most of my weekends at work between now and Dec 14th. Between that and running I barely have any time left at all, so curling unfortunately had to go. I am so going to need my Christmas vacation....

I did the RnR half in VA Beach this year and the whole weekend was a blast. I agree with you about the organization and support - I would definitely recommend that race to anyone. Finishing on the beach and being able to walk out in the ocean after the race was great. And you bib gets you into the music events all weekend - including the 3 headliner concerts.

I was thinking that since I am doing the full in June, I might have to sign up for one of the fall halfs - just to get a third medal (or maybe both the VA Beach and Philly halfs - the Beach to Bell Medal is pretty cool)
And, now that they are adding another marathon in San Antonio, I bet they are going to have to come up with another heavy medal :rolleyes1

Hey guys---unfortunately, I haven't been able to keep up with the thread, but I have been training this week!!!!! This is the first week in awhile that I have gotten in 3 workouts during the week, and they all went great!!! My knee has been a little sore the last week and half, so I started wearing a knee brace and bought new shoes, and low and behold...no more knee pain!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1:
Tomorrow is a rest day before my 17 mile LR this weekend!!! I can't wait!!!

Wow Shan that is really scary. I actually gave up the MP3 player after my 5k in the end of June. I never ran with both headphones in for safety reasons (to hear cars and what not) and it seemed like more of a pain in the you know what with the cords and messing with that instead of focusing on running. Also I found it rude when I came up behind some lady on the course had her headphones on and I could hear her music over my music (granted I only had 1 headphone on) and she definately couldn't hear me coming up behind her and she was in my way!!! Same thing happened in the 5k I did in July. Now I just think and plan in my head when I am running. LOL
Hope I can get out there again soon but I know it won't be too soon. I have a half day of work tomorrow and then we leave for the Keys :cool1: for the NASCAR race this weekend in Homestead-Miami. :woohoo: Go Dale Jr and Kurt Busch!!
Good luck to all with events this weekend and also to those with LR planned. All who are sick please get better.

Christa - You would be fine with the 4 week taper. Great fitness base, yadda, yadda.
That said, I think you may go crazy. I did a shorter taper (2 weeks) for MCM and really felt better. Didn't feel stale and didn't have that nagging "I haven't really run for 4 weeks. Am I out of shape?" mental B.S. You do have a great base and I seriously doubt another LR thrown in would increase your risk of injury. I wouldn't feel compelled to do 20 miles but 14 or 16.... Depends on your motivation (and time).
Carrie - Great time on your race. I see a sub-5hr in your future.
Leana - Sorry about the curling. BTW, as DW will gladly attest, a no-post run shower for me is NOT an option at home. Don't even think about work!
Tricia - Dale Jr. and Kurt Busch? Aren't they mutually exclusive? Have fun at the race.

Well, I just read every page of this thread for the week, wow, this is a chatty group...but I LOVE it!!! There is no way, i can catch up with every person individually, but I wanted to add a few things:
To all those not feeling well--here's some pixie dust that you are feeling better soon! :wizard:
To anyone battling an injury--make sure to take care of yourself! :wizard:
To those like me that work LONG hours each day, and have lots of stuff going on---make sure to get enough rest! (Maybe I should listen to myself for a change! :rotfl2: )
To all the NEW members of the team---WELCOME!!! As the others have said, this is a GREAT group!!!!
For all you Nascar fans--What are we going to watch on Sunday afternoons after our LR's! GO DALE JR--last race in the 8 car...I am soooooooooo sad!!!!!
Everyone is doing so AWESOME with their training...we have a lot of speedy people around here these days!!! I can't wait for January, especially to meet everyone!!
Good Luck to everyone on their runs this weekend! Have an awesome Friday!

Woop de doo, I love the drop back week, I love the drop back week - there I was just settling into my Friday morning 'short' run and it was all over and time to go home - hooray. Hopefully I'll be as excited tomorrow for the 12 miles!!
I may have scared a few people on my run this morning though, I decided to run round the top of the Observatory here as I fancied doing a hill. Normally there's lots of boot camp classes up there but this morning it was deserted - so I ran three laps round the top of the hill singing (loudly) to Welcome to the Black Parade - then I noticed the workmen.........might not go up there for a week or so. Morning all. Well, my LR this weekend is on hold right now. For the past month or so, I've been experiencing ankle pain (right around the ankle bone--outside of leg), but it's been mild. And I've been telling myself it's nothing and continued to train. Well, this morning I almost couldn't walk on it--think the cold weather stiffened it up a bit. It's better now, but still a little sore. What do ya'll think? I'm worried that if I don't get my LR in this weekend and with next week being Thanksgiving that I might miss 2 in a row. Ugh!
Okay, really got to get to work--my 8 hours working at the gym has turned into 24 this week, along with babysitting and my Walgreen's gig this weekend; I'm a workin' machine!

Hi Everyone-
Thanks for the well wishes. I am feeling a little better today.
Once again, it is a perfect day to run here in Atlanta. No, I am not going to run yet, but its killing me!
I took advantage of my extra time yesterday and went to purchase new Happy Feet inserts for my running shoes. My shoes are so springy now! I can't wait to run again cause I know it is going to feel great.
Dh thought it was weird that I went to the running store when I was sick. Evidently he thinks I should be resting. He does not think shopping is resting. He obviously does not understand.
I am scheduled to run 12 miles tomorrow. :) I can't wait.
Take care everyone!

Well I moved my 12 mile tempo run to tomorrow. The acid reflux has hit this morning...so no need to even try to run through it when I have Saturday to run. I may have tried it, but DD9 also woke up sick...to many things telling me not to run this morning so I am moving the run!

Good morning...
Decided yesterday that I just didn't want to mess around with the brisk winds and colder temperatures, so I took the run to the calmer and warmer environment of the fitness center treadmill. I just set the pace at 8:57 and knocked out the 5 miles. Wasn't that bad really...I'm not one to look forward to runs anywhere other than outdoors but after I settled in to that first mile I was able to kind of zone out and complete the run.
I've got a pullback 8 mile long run this weekend and then I need to look at my plan for next week as I've got to pull off a 10k on Thursday (which I'm shooting for a PR) and a 14 miler on Sunday.
Hope everyone has a great day and an awesome weekend!!

Morning guys. Sorry to scare everyone about their headphones, but it was very terrifying to see.
I ran this morning w/o the headphones and I was bored outta my mind. :sad2:
Plus, I don't know what is going on with me, but again I lacked motivation and felt like a total slug. I also think my running shoes are killing my feet. I guess I'm gonna have to take them back and see if they'll do another fitting. I don't think these shoes are right for me at all.
I'm doing a 10K next Thursday and this morning was supposed to be a fairly easy run. I was gonna run 40 minutes. I ended up running for 20, had to walk 5 cause I thought my feet were gonna break, then finished the last 15 in a very slow jog. My overall pace was well into the 11:00 range. At this point, my under 10:00 goal pace for the 10K is out the window and I'm just hoping to complete it. :sad2:
Amy, I haven't started any XT yet. I start my half marathon training in mid December. Right now I'm just running a few times a week. I'm kinda scared about the pilates. I keep reading how tough a workout it is. :scared1:
Hope everyone that is under the weather feels better very soon! Good luck on any LRs out there this weekend, too! :goodvibes

Hi everyone!!! Thanks for the Welcome! Wow, It will be tough keeping up w/ all you guys!!!
Quick update on me... I'm on Week 5 of the Couch to 5K. I completed Day 2 on Wednesday. I went in a little pessimistic. You want me to do what??? Run 8 min straight, walk for 5 and then run 8 more again??? Well, much to my delight, I did it!!! :woohoo: Today or tomorrow will be Day 3--Running 20 min without stopping... In one way I'm dreading in, in another I'm excited to see how much I can do before I get extremely winded and have to stop. My heart is in it, I want to run the full 20 min, but I just don't know if my mortaility will let me!
Hope all you guys have a great weekend!
Happy training!

I have the same problem. It's caused by your shoe rubbing against the bottom the ankle bone. I have to wear shoes that are low cut in that area. Did you just get new shoes recently? Are you walking/running on roads that are slanted, that puts extra pressure on the shoe rubbing the ankle bone.
I ran and walked for a long time and I just developed this problem when I was training for the marathon last year. I haven't been able to wear a shoe that wasn't low cut since.
Hope you get your solution figured out soon.

Shan - So sorry to hear you were bored! I run everything without music and you definitely get used to it (and I used to be staunch about listening to tunes). I think about my races coming up, or about what races I want to do later, other stuff that is going on, or I'll get a tune in my head. I always try to run somewhere with nice scenery to look at. Also - I don't know if you can find other people to run with, because chatting with others definitely helps!
Stephanie - :wizard: PD for your ankle. If it is hurting you, I would definitely say to give it a rest. You don't want it to get worse and have it impact your race at Disney. If the bone is hurting you don't want to run the risk of a stress fracture.

Hi, everyone! Just a quick catch-up post to say
To all our new teammates -- :welcome:
To everyone nursing aches and pains or illness -- sending you goodvibes :goodvibes and pixie dust pixiedust:
I am hoping to get in 16 miles this weekend, though it might not all happen in one session. I may have time for 12 tonight before the gym closes, then I'd LOVE a cold weather wog in the morning and may trek to panera for a bagel with cream cheese for DS14.
Since so many of you have been so diligent about doing your crunches, I started again last night and will hope to keep the streak going all the way up to marathon weekend.
I am finally relenting and will see my favorite doctor Tuesday night (he is the one in my family practice who specializes in sports medicine) about my back. It is much better than it was on 9/28 when I could barely move, but is still painful after 4 1/2 weeks of physical therapy. It doesn't hurt when I wog, necessarily, but hurts terribly when I sit, stretch or take a deep breath, lending credence to the original doctor's theory that there is still rib misalignment. The PT says the middle trapezoid muscle is constantly knotted and protruding, too. UGH! I really dont' have time to deal with this, but I figure now is better than closer to Christmas and the marathon. So, thank you for the good WISHes!

This recipe was sent to me. May have to try it out.
BAKED STUFFED CHICKEN
6-7 lb. Chicken
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good)
1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHERS LOW FAT) Salt/pepper to
taste ____ Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush chicken well with melted
butter, salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place
in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven. Listen for
the popping sounds.
When the chicken's butt blows the oven door open and the chicken flies
across the room, it is done.
And, you thought I couldn't cook.

I didn't know you were from Kentucky. Another classic is to to open a beer, put the can in the place where the stuffing goes and put it on the BarBQ, can down. As the chicken cooks the beer bubbles up and is absorbed by the chicken.
Please everyone post your miles for today, saturday and Sunday on the 1000 mile WISH challange thread.

Vic: anyone can cook. It's just what it looks like or tastes like when it's finished that is in question.
Cam: :wizard: for that back! Don't let it go any longer. We miss you on the boards.
Stacie: congrats on being on week 5! You can do this.
lenshanem: sorry to hear about your foot pain! I hope you can get it taken care of.
Cecilia: glad you're feeling better but don't push it. Don't start up until your body is ready. And do as I say not as I do. I never follow my own advice!
Stephanie: sorry to hear about your foot pain! Did WWDave's suggestion help?
WWDave: love the idea of a challenge. I'll be good and only post what I do instead of what I planned. Can I estimate if I run time rather than distance?
30 min run tonight (~3 miles for estimate sake) and 3 1/2 hours on Sunday (roughly 18 miles). Hope everyone is doing well. pixiedust: for those not feeling well. And GOOD LUCK to all those racing this weekend!!!

What a cold and blustery day!!! Brrrr....guess the winter temps are finally settling in up here in NJ :).
I'm feeling much better today so I headed out to teach my morning Pilates class! Afterwards I hopped on the old dreadmill for a nice 5 Miler. I didn't push too hard but tried to finish mile 5 as fast as my legs would go....getting a little speedwork in there ;). I'm running an 8K next Thursday...and hope to PR. My speed isn't what it used to be....but I should be able to beat it if the stars align ;). My friend was teaching a mat class so I jumped in there and did a nice hour of pilates and stretching. Ahhhh...it's so awesome when I can just take a class. It also hurts more for some reason? :confused3
Scott: Ahhhh...we've all been sent to the dreadmills this week. Sounds like you had a solid run though buddy :).
Stacie: Hey there girl ! You are doing so awesome in that C25K program. I can't wait to cheer for you at the 5K (assuming that I can drag my lazy butt out of bed that morning). :goodvibes
Shan: Ohhhh...Pilates isn't that bad. I promise! What 10K are you running on Thanksgiving???
Cam:  Sorry about your back! Good for you...see that doc!
Stephanie: Bummer about the ankle pain. I'm not a doc...but here's a thought. That area could be related to the anterior tibialis. It might be a case of tendonitis...which is remedied with ice and anti-inflam. I was able to get mine under control pretty quickly. I'd suggest a visit to the ortho or sports med doc to see what they think. Just keep that in mind. I had a lot of stiffness in the ankle too...mine was on the inside though. But there are tendons that run up from the foot to the ankle on both sides...and either can flare up with runnning. Do you notice if it is worse on hills or walking stairs? That's a big sign for that one. :goodvibes Good luck...let us know how you are doing.
Are there a lot of people running on Turkey Day? It's the best day to run b/c then you can go home and chow down!!! LOVE it! :thumbsup2
This is a pull back week for me so I'm backing down to 4 on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. Ahhhhhh...... . My legs will love me!
Have a great weekend. Happy training :sunny:

Shan....I'm running the Gobble Jog 10k too! I ran it last year and although it was a bit disorganized, it was a pretty fun race. Warning: It's two laps of the 5k course...and try to get there early...the race was delayed last year due to an overwhelming number of race day entrants.
Have fun!!!

Stephanie - Hope your ankle pain subsides soon.
Amy - So glad you're posting again! I'm running an 8K Turkey Trot here Thanksgiving Day.
Stacie - Great job on the C25K. We'll see you at the 5K in January - DD and DH are running that before I do the Half.
I'm down to one mid-week run a week right now to give my feet a break. Between the ankle and the PF, it seems to be the only way I can get through it. I'm going to attempt 6 miles tomorrow before heading to the Christmas parade to see DD's marching band. Tuesday I take DD to the podiatrist, and I'm going to ask him for another cortisone shot and hope that does the trick!

Okay guys, I have a confession......I cannot run without my iPod. I know all about the safety concerns, but I can't leave it at home. I run with in on low volume so I can hear the cars, and I wear the 'exterior' kind (not the ear buds which really occuludes the ear). That's all I can do.
My sister has run for 30 years and has never worn music, and she loves it that way. The only time I don't wear them is when I run with her. Her constant chatter/commentary keeps me quite entertained! But 98% of my training is all by my lonesome, so iPod it is!
Ran 4 miles today, and 5 miles yesterday! I am still baking up a storm for my fund raising efforts!

:cheer2: Good Luck on your 10K!

I was able to squeeze in 3 hours on the TM tonight. Watched the end of "Coach Carter" and all of "Glory Road" and listened to some music while reading "First Marathons". Got in 12.24 miles. I'll try to squeeze in another 3.76 sometime this weekend, but my DMIL arrives tomorrow for 2 weeks. I have a feeling my runing will suffer.

Haven't been on here for a few days as things have been really crazy around here this week! But I have found the time to get out and run.
Ran on Tues (2.5 miles)
Ran on Thurs (4.25 miles)
and ran today (2.5 miles)
Tomorrow I have 2.5 planned before we head to NH to have an early T'giving.
I have found that after the first mile I get into a groove and it is easier to run the next mile than it was the first. I am proud of the fact that I am not overdoing it and so glad that I have a long term goal (the Minnie 15K) to work toward. It also helps that the Minnie takes place during our surprise trip to WDW with the kids. Since I can't talk about the trip I have been talking to DD about the race (she is 5 so she has no clue since I haven't told her anything other than 'Mommy is running a race')
Have a great weekend everyone!

Funny about the BMZ and headphones!
I use the run to think. Tried to use HP on LRs outside and I felt "trapped" by the music...but on the TM I use them!
The 1/2 marathon will get you around 1300 cals burned! Most people burn around 100 cals a mile. I think I burn 94.:confused3

What do ya'll think?
i just went to the podiatrist this week with the same type of problem. He said, for me, it was tendonitis. He prescribed 500mg of Anaprox (generic brand), twice daily. The sad thing is that I can't take this during my long-run weekend. Not sure what I'm going to do. I haven't been able to run much this past week and I've got to do 16 miles this weekend. :sad2:

Beth: I cannot run without my iPod either. The best shoes and the iPod pulled me back in. It is not that I do not enjoy my run but I get bored with myself :lmao: and when I talk to myself, it just causes talk around town!!! I have the external phones and I keep the music down also. Sometimes, when I travel, I take the buds but I run with only 1 in so I can hear.
Shan and everyone else, I know that the whole strangling thing is scary but, as women, we just need to be AWARE of what is going on. Sometimes, we tend to get caught up in the music or have it too loud and we become less aware of cars and people and that is when things go bad. I have done defense training with women in the past and the one thing we try to get through to them is just to remain aware. :thumbsup2

Susie....Take the anaprox and give the leg a rest. It should start to do its job fairly quickly! My best advice is to shelve the LR. I know it's really really hard to do but pushing it on the LR will make the recovery longer, I learned that lesson last year. Tendonitis can be very painful :(. I dealt with it a lot last year during training. There is still LOTS of time left so allow it to heal. And it will :). See if a week off, icing and rest do the trick. I hate to see anyone dealing with that. It stinks!

I think I may order this after my last disastrous run. I wasn't into it mentally and not having my music just about killed me. Funny, I have run several times w/o it, but with my current lack of motivation it was just too hard. I wouldn't do the lanyard cause that is the same as the headphones as far as being able to strangle you, but it shows you can also clip them on your shirt. It appears I'm trying my best to look like Inspector Gadget... :sad2:
Scott, cool beans! I'll try to remember to wear my WISH hat. Thanks for the heads up. We were planning on getting there early anyway before the roads close, plus we need to go by the Big Peach tent to pick up our shirts. Do I need to bring my own water or can I depend on the water station for both loops around? Did you have trouble parking? I'm extremely concerned about my feet. I was up last night with them aching. I think I might wear my old running shoes.

Good morning WISH Team.
I did a couple of easy miles this morning and some good stretching. Starting to feel good again, must be time for the next LSD:eek:
Please add your miles to the 1000 mile challange. If all of us contribute to the total we can reach that goal I'm sure. I promise it won't ruin your reputation by posting on one of my threads.
I know everyone keeps up with wear on your trainers, but do you the same for your work shoes? I think my worn dress shoes were causing me to get some additional soreness in my legs. I only wear Rocport dress/sports but since I'm on my feet for most of the 8 hour shift, wear on them is probably as important as on my trainers. I just don't pay attention to them like I do my trainers.
Has anyone heard from Wendy since her reverse Goofy? I hope she is not hurt.

Plan was to take the 1st 6 easy then run the last 6 faster.
I finished in 1:42.
1st 6 in 53 min for an 8:50 pace
took a "NEW" mint chocolate gu...it was good!
2nd 6 in 48:42 for an 8:07 pace
It was the perfect day to run...a little on the cool side (28 when I started) but it was sunny and I soon warmed up.

Good Morning fellow WISH team members!!! Well, I did it!!! I finished 17 miles!!!!!! My longest run yet!! And, it felt great. I mean I did have some minor aches and pains, but nothing out of the ordinary. I am really starting to feel like I will really be able to finish the marathon! Although as I was finishing up today, I kept saying to myself, in the marathon, I will still have 9 more miles to go...YIKES!!!!!
Stephanie--hope the ankle is feeling better. Rest may be the best thing for it. I agree that a weeks rest may be the best thing!
Cecilia-Hope the 12 miles went well today! Men just don't understand sometimes that even if women are not feeling well, we still find the energy to shop!!!
Christa--WTG for listening to your body yesterday and moving your run to today! Looks like you had an awesome run today--you are super speedy!
Tricia--Hope you are having fun at the NASCAR race this weekend!! I am so jealous!
Shan--Hope your feet are feeling better! It is amazing what a pair of shoes can do to your legs. I just bought a new pair last weekend, as my shins and knees were bothering me, and guess what....the pain is gone!!! Try to go back and have them re-fit you for shoes.
Stacie-Great job on the couch to 5k plan...you are doing great!!

Well, life has been crazy  but I have still been getting my miles in. Today I did 16 miles!! I walked about a third I would guess and was still able to average 12 min miles. Very happy with that. This week I got in 35 miles - that is just nutso. When I left this morning at 7:15am, it was 43 degrees, so I had to layer it on. Was pretty shocked to look outside and see frost on the ground!! I thought it was supposed to be warm and sunny all year in SC :rotfl:
When I got home, DH asked how it was. I said surprisingly well. I started out a little rough, but around mile 5 I got into a groove (and at mile 12 my ipod died, so that stunk). My DH replied, Oh, I thought you were going to come home and say how awful it was and that you weren't able to finish. :scared1:
Nice! No faith!! I knew my fellow WISHers would be there for support (unlike DH) ;)
Ok, now to try to catch up!

Sara - Way to go! You will rock at the minnie!
Christa - You are so fast! WTG on your 12! I usually burn about 100 cal a mile according to my garmin - but DH burns more. Does it have to do with weight?
Susie - Hope the meds help. Good luck with your 16 miles!
Stephanie - I hope your ankle is better soon

Amy - Liked your advice to Susie, especially since I decided to blow off this morning's run and rest a few more days!
Christa - Mint chocolate gu - yum!
Lynnda - Had to go out and check the mailbox - nothing yet.
Becky - It's scary that we have to come to the computer for people who understand us, but I know exactly how you feel!
The alarm went off at 5:50, and I'd already been up at 5:00 to take migraine meds. My gut feeling was that I shouldn't run. The last time my gut said don't run, I did, and ended up with the fracture that day, so I decided to snuggle deeper in the blankets today and ignore the alarm! I ended up doing a couple of miles anyway since DD's band marched in the parade - we walked to the start of the parade to see them, then ran (at a pace faster than I've ever run!) to the end of the route to catch them there. I'm counting that as 2 miles since the route was 1.2!

Oh, did they take any race photos?
They have multiple water stations and they had water both times around last year (I think there was water at each mile). Of course with more people you never know what may happen, but I feel pretty confident on relying on them as opposed to carrying my own. I didn't have trouble parking last year...all of those lots at the banks & churches that surround the square are open....just another reason to get there early though...I know they are again expecting a record turnout :)
Sorry to hear about your feet! Good idea to wear what you know will be comfortable on race day.
There were race photos taken, but not by the "pros" (ASI & marathonfoto)...it may take some sifting thru the photos to find yourself in the crowds ;)
Hope you guys have a great time at the race! Good luck to you!

Training update for today....
I did 20 miles on the bike (17mph...could have been better if I didn't have to stop for traffic), came back and did a solid 30 minutes of Pilates, then went out for a brisk 4 mile walk.
I'll be long running tomorrow but it's a step back week so I'll only be doing 8. I see it as more of a prep run for the 10k on Turkey Day.

Hello all,
Been away from this thread for a while. I'm as ready as I can be for the Philly marathon tomorrow. The weather forecast says 35-45 degrees and rain for the race tomorrow. :scared1: I'm a little scared about the weather since I haven't run in the rain since this summer. Not a lot of training for me today. I taught my Pilates class this morning :goodvibes . And I visited my brand new...beautiful...baby niece Sierra  . And I did my 4 Mile walk/run which turned out to be just a walk today ;). Just didn't have the running part in me! Averaged around a 13:50 mpm. I'll take it. I plan to really enjoy the Half Marathon....and push the Full. So I'm just doing the half training on saturdays at a very reasonable pace!
K...that's it for now. Good runs to everyone tomorrow!
