HI!
I would love to take our 3 kids on a Disney Cruise next winter. They will be 9, 7 & 4.
I'm thinking a 4day will be long enough for them, and I'm wondering what we'd pay. I know 4 is possible in a room, but what about 5? I'm thinking February or March. Also, a 7day isn't out of the question, I'm just not sure on the cost difference.
I'd appreciate any of your best advice. Thanks!!!

If you surf over to http://www.disneycruise.com you can easily get a quote and even do some comparison pricing for catagories.
Also, www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com would be happy to provide a quote.
And yes, 5 is possible in certain room catagories. I know for certain that Cat 4 will handle 5, not sure about any other catagories though (but the quote system at disneycruise will tell you what's available to you).

You can go to www.disneycruise.com and use the "Get a quote" feature to get some comparisons, but here is something to get you started. I did a check for the 2nd week of February in 2003 for both 4 and 7 day cruises. With a family of five, you have a couple options: You can get a Cat 4 room with a verandah, which can accomodate all 5 of you, or you can get 2 connecting rooms.
Here are the prices I came up with for a family of 5:
4-day, Cat 4: $3894
4-day, 2 Cat 10s: $3534
7-day, Cat 4: $5337
7-day, 2 Cat 10s: $5357
Note that these are directly off of the DCL website. You may be able to get better prices, but the relative differences should be similar.
Added note: I believe that Cat 10 is the lowest Cat. with connecting staterooms.

We are a family of 5 (son - 10, daughters 9 & 3 plus my wife and me). We found that we had three options,
1. 1 category 4 family suit that sleeps 5 - $4,600 7 day cruise
2. 2 category 10 connecting rooms - $4,200 7 day cruise
3. 2 category 12 rooms - $3,800 7 day cruise/
Note that all of these prices include the early booking discount and are during non-peak times (Feb 1, 2003).
You can also get some other combinations of two rooms, but this is generally what your choices are. We ruled out option 3 because the rooms aren't connecting at this category level and with a 3 year old we didn't feel good about that. So the choice was between options 1 & 2. Option 1, the cat 4 room has a verandah and the cat 10's don't. But, the two cat 10 rooms would give us over 400 sq ft of space and the cat 4 is roughly 315 sq ft. In the end, we chose to spend the extra money for a cat 4 room and have the verandah and less space. Note that DCL will not allow 5 people in a cat 10 or 12 room, that is why you have to get two rooms.
Hope this helps.

We've done two 7 day cruises with 5 people. The first time we all shared a Cat4 cabin. Very nice with the verandah, but a bit crowded. On our most recent cruise, we had adjoining Cat10 cabins. Two bathrooms, two showers, and lots more closet and drawer space. Even though we did not have a verandah or even a window, I think that we all enjoyed the extra room afforded by having two cabins.

We are a family of 5 sailing in November. We also opted for the 2 category 10 rooms(and got the secret portholes, so it is actually kind of like an 8) It is costing us $3868.75. The category 4 would have been a little more, but we liked the idea of 2 rooms with one for us and one for the children, treating it more like a suite where the kids will sleep in the living area and Mom and Dad's bedroom will be the other one.
