Ever been Upgraded at Disney Resorts using DVC points?

Hi!

We have some reservation points that have to be used and were wondering if it was worth the risk to add more points to get a deluxe resort (specifically the contemporary on 12/20/07 - we've never stayed there) using the minimal amount of points for a garden standard room in the hopes of being upgraded. We know it's using a TON of points at that time of year and think it's crazy for that time of year compared to other times, but it's the holiday season and thought this was a chance to do something different. Has anyone ever been upgraded upon check-in using points? Or did they just say it was available if you were willing to add more points at the time of check-in?

Right now we have the coronado standard for 22 points - a lot I know, but we have to use them up. BTW, we really wanted to stay in a Ft. Wilderness cabin, but it wasn't available for that night and there is no wait list using points according to MS. However, I guess we could call up MS day to day to see availability - which is really our first choice using our reservation points.

Just a thought. From reading the resorts board I would say this is a fairly hard upgrade to get during slow periods. You are going the busiest time of the year I would only book if you can live with the garden room.

Just called MS - no "room at the inn" for the contemporary either in any category using our points on that date . Looks like we just have to keep calling MS, or just stick with what we have!

BTW, is there anyone out there cancelling their ressie using points on 12/20 for a FW Cabin or CR?

When we stayed on points at CR, we also had an initial day paying cash. When we asked if we might be able to stay in the same room, the CM told us no because the points stay was a different category and we could not be upgraded during our points stay.

Not at WDW, but we were upgraded at Disneyland Hotel from a standard to a theme park view. I don't know if it is different at Disneyland though being that they aren't all that familiar with DVC (yet).

Hey, we were at Hilton Head this past weekend, and I asked the lady that very question, and she said absolutely NO upgrades on points. She said you get what you "pay" for....on points.

I wouldn't say never.
A few years ago we had a reservation for 1 night in a 1 BR @ BCV on points. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a 2 BR. It was a pleasant surprise!
